Is it possible that Eric Dier has forgotten how to play football, was he always that bad, surely England have a better option than someone who the ball just bounces of?

he is perfect for lvg sideways and backwards.

Fellani a better player, fellani is a nuisance whatever team he plays against, he breaks up their rhythm, gets in their faces, good in both boxes, a good option to have.

Agree Leahy. Fair play to fellaini he had a very good game. Still not a fan of his and don’t think we should have resigned him. But he is much better than Dier and was probably man of the match today.

29 Jun 2018 12:40:56
Belgium played him in his best role as an advanced midfielder. The same as Everton used to use him. A role we never play him in.

Who knew Mourinho and Southgate knew what they were doing in thinking Young is a better left back than Rose?!

Also players like Januzaj who are
Never good enough get big moves on the back of goals like that!

Eric I think Adnan’s ability was never in doubt but for whatever reason it didn’t work. Shame though, would like to see him do well for himself.

Rashford?

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jun 2018 21:01:54
A few points on reflexion from a non England fan:

I'd forgotten all about Adnan! Had such high hopes for him, reminded me of Laudrup - both of them!

Fellaini was one of the best on the pitch tonight. I don't want to see him start a game in our midfield, but with 10 or 15 to go and needing a goal, he is a great option to bring on

Rashford has found himself one on one with the keeper several times and fluffs it every time. All pace, but quality? Not enough for me.

Believable1 Unbelievable3

28 Jun 2018 21:36:10
Marcus has all the quality it's his decision making that needs to improve. On his big chance he had to fake the shot and go round Courtois, who was positioned very far to his left knowing Marcus wanted to go with his right. That variety in his game will come with experience I have no doubt.

Hi Eds,
I was wondering if you could please tell me if Juventus have brought in Cancelo as a replacement for Sandro perhaps because they have accepted they may lose him or is he being brought as back up for Sandro? The rumours of us chasing him seem to have died down somewhat, so are we happy to double down on Shaw and wait for one of our younger targets to develop further or would you expect us to still sign a left back this window? Thanks as always for all your insight!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Cancelo will be a starter, as will Sandro. I am not reallysure what you mean.}

28 Jun 2018 17:46:18
Cancelo is a RB, RWB or occasionally a RW. Whereas, Alex Sandro is a LB or LWB.

So as they play on opposite sides of the pitch I doubt you could call one a replacement for the other.

Any chance of a Sharkopod Ed002, if you've got time? Also, Ed says we've been offered Fekir (on the european page), what does everyone think about that? Would you take him?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - When I get time}

Fekir is wonderful player. But not sure how he really fits in. His best position seems to be no 10. He can play on he right but I think we need an out and out rw. but fekir does does have a very good delivery.

28 Jun 2018 17:50:03
A list of players I wouldn't want to play against would include Duncan Ferguson, Joey Barton, Dennis Wise, Vinnie Jones ect.

I'm not sure that being an asshole who elbows people rather than trying to win the ball should be a key attribute of players we look to have in the team.

Agree4 Disagree6

28 Jun 2018 18:08:40
Not sure anyone said that shappy.

I think he's a good player and would be a nightmare to play against. 10 mins to go and seeing a lump like fellaini come on. He's difficult to defend against.

Not sure where all the 'asshole' stuff came from.

Asshole? Really shappy?!

Glad he's staying and he soets move on.

He can be very snidy with those elbows is where shappy was going. He may be a handful but its not what I want to see on the pitch. If we fixed the plan a do its more effective we wouldn't need a lump as a plan b.

28 Jun 2018 20:56:58
The same support you gave ibra jred. You Spent 18 months knocking him. You Moaned and were very vocal against it when he got a new deal the same way people are doing with fellaini even though jose wanted him.
People are entitled to their opinion on fellaini same way you were with ibra .

Realistically we will be playing 4-2-3-1 for most of next season with Fred and matic as the 2 and pogba Central in the 3 Above.

So signing fellaini makes a lot more sense then spending 30m+ on a replacement.

I would assume fellaini will be matics back up and herara will be Fred back up and you still have pogba you can bring back to play in the 2 plus you have mctominay and tfm as further back up.

So my priority signings are a left back and right wing. If there's money left after that it would be a cb and then another cm.

Just my thoughts

Good luck to all united fans home nations unless they are playing england.

28 Jun 2018 09:56:29
I've read the Fellaini debate with interest and I think it's more what his signing represents that has angered many posters rather than the player himself.

Whilst I'm not his biggest fan he's been a good professional and represented the Club well. His perceived limitations as a player are not his fault and he always given his best. He possess a unique talent and when used in the correct way he can sometimes be an effective player and an awkward opponent.

I think at the start of the window there was a sense of excitement and optimism with changes to the coaching staff which maybe hinted at a change of philosophy and offered the hope of more expansive football.

The re-signing of Fellaini suggests to some that a leopard doesn't readily change his spots and the pragmatic football is set to continue or certainly remain a viable option.

In a strange paradox I think it's been fantastic to watch an England team playing with some intensity and imagination. I don't think anybody envisaged a year ago that Jesse Lingard would be integral to England's World Cup aspirations. The use of only one defensive midfielder with two more attack minded players is something we're just not used to from an England team and certainly wouldn't have happened under Allardyce. The fact that we've got both Ali and Lingard in the team, two tenacious, technically gifted, intelligent midfielders who both make brilliant runs off the ball, finding space between the lines is so refreshing and exciting to watch. I hope we don't revert to type and continue to be brave throughout the knockout stages. The exciting football and good weather has brought a real buz to the country.

Maybe Jose should take a look at what's happening with England and take notice. We just need Rashford to light up the tournament now.

if its definately confirmed then fair play but until it is.

At left back we have a choice of young Shaw rojo or even blind however we have nobody that wants to hug the right touchline, beat the fullback on his outside and deliver a cross. Mata always cuts back in and Jesse Marcus and Anthony would all prefer to play elsewhere.
For me therefore if we were only to make 1 more signing this window it would be a right footed (ie not bale) wide player to attack the byline as opposed to cutting in and attacking the penalty area.

Gotta love these fans who love to slag off a player like Fellaini, who may not be everyones cup of tea, but he certainly plays with desire and pride. Of course they all know better, that he is not good enough, and they all know who is better. Remember the joy at signing Sweinsteiger and Schneiderlin.
Fancy names from our Fifa games are not always the answer, and the best person to judge is possibly the one who picks the team. i'm not a massive Jose fan, but I do belive he knows more than me.

A little embarrassed reading the posts yesterday to be honest, I am obviously in the minority because of how the agrees and disagrees went yesterday on the posts, anyone who dared to say that a player who gives his all signing a new deal on decent terms wasn't actually the end of United and you might as well just give City the title was voted down.

The only thing I can relate it to was the overreaction when Pedro signed for Chelsea and that was us winning nothing for the next 10 years and the end of us.

Guessing once people calm down people will realise it is not the end of the world, he isn't particularly my cup of tea but he has scored a few important goals for us and I think defenders hate playing against him, I would rather he was on our bench than playing against our midfield put it that way.

Cue the disagrees.

28 Jun 2018 11:07:51
Iv been reading the previous posts with great intrigue, the big fella isn't half as bad as people make out, like GDS has said i'd rather him be at our disposal. He does chip in with important goals he does terrify defenders he is a handful and a great plan B. Put things into perspective guys, will he be regular I doubt it, we can't have all flair players and no substance or we will turn into arsenal 😂.

28 Jun 2018 11:37:46
Gds would you rather live in north korea where people can't express their opinions. Would you be embarrassed living in a dictatorship where everybody had to tow the line and be robotic.
Dont be too quick to lecture people on how they should express themselves.

Agree4 Disagree5

28 Jun 2018 18:15:59
To be honest Ken, I'm not sure he is lecturing on how anyone should express themselves but rather expressing that he was a bit embarrassed about how people reacted to the news. Unless I'm reading it wrong.

It was all a bit OTT to be honest. Fellaini signing a new deal does bit translate into him being a starter or lynch pin of the team. He is merely just another player who gives a different option in different situations and Jose fought hard to keep in. In actual fact I think he deserves it they way he has played and how he has always given a 100 percent. We have had too many players over recent years who really don't put in the effort required.

In relation to this, he messed around the with manager not deciding on a deal beforehand etc., I don't know enough about that, maybe an ed can enlighten us, but is he not allowed to look at possibly securing a better deal elsewhere? Especially given the fact that he hasn't exactly been treated well by the majority of fans and has never really been a starter. He is coming into the final phase of his career and taking all of that into account I believe he is more than entitled to see if he can get a better deal. For when he is of no use to united, whether he wants to stay or not, he will be moved on.

Again, all very OTT for me. He is a player that can make an impact in games. He's proven that.

I think it's quite obvious where Jose wants to drive this team especially with the purchase of fred.

Fellaini is a good balance IMO. Played well tonight too. Far better than the English midfield.

I bet Leroy Sane will have a little cheeky grin before he falls into his best sleep since the WC began. It is my opinion that he would have helped Germany tonight with hos speed as the rest of the squad looked like they had lead in their boots whilst playing.

If Man Utd were offered any player from the Germany Squad that played tonight?

Which player would you take to Old Trafford.

Julian Brandt. Something Messi-esque about him.

Agree3 Disagree0

28 Jun 2018 06:40:09
I would take Kimmich, Sule, Hummels, Goretzka, Werner. All of them from the starting lineup. Brandt who came on as sub.
Also Neuer misses because we have DDG and not because he is bad. Also Hector maybe good. I don't know for sure. Reus due to injury issue or else he too is good.

Just cause they didn't make it out of the group doesn't suddenly make all of the terrible. Just like winning the PL didn't make all of Leicester city players World class. They are still of good quality.
