Has anyone noticed how supportive SAF has been of Mancini over Tevez. Add this to the mutual respect they both have.

Anyone else impressed with Mancini?

Even though it is early days relatively at City, has Mancini added his name to the potential list of successors to SAF?

if we were to sign someone from benfica why not witsel or garcia? Both centre mids and it looks like benfica sell a player every window. Di maria, luis, coentro.

Alot of people talking about Nico Gaitan(winger). Stupid. The release clause is 40mil and portuguese teams don't usually negotiate unless you pay the full amount. We need Central M, not winger, If we were to buy one, there's alot of better players than him. Only because he played well againist us doesn't mean that he can do good at OT. Shaqiri, Hazard, Marin and the young guy from Blackburn Rovers. So stop taking rubbish about wings when we really need is a 2 CM, LB.

Apparently the Samaritans have installed a special Manchester number to help distraught Rags fans ... it is 0161 616161. It has been inundated.

Manchester United goalkeeper Tomasz Kuszczak is preparing for a cut-price departure from Old Trafford in January after failing to find a way out of the club in the summer.

The goalkeeper has no future at United and is now fourth choice behind David De Gea, Anders Lindegaard and Ben Amos.

West Ham passed up the opportunity to sign Kuszczak on loan recently and instead opted for Manuel Almunia, so the United outcast has to wait it out until the transfer window opens.

West Brom were keen in the summer but failed to reach an agreement with United over Kuszczak's market value.

Kuszczak, 29, moved to Old Trafford for around £2m in 2006 and has made just 61 appearances in five years at the club - but his chances of leaving have been hampered as United valued him at around £4m.

Nobody was willing to pay that amount for the Pole but United are ready to accept a significantly lower sum in January, enabling Kuszczak to leave and get his career back on track

Sneijder's £30m Man United, is there any possibility that it will happen during January transfer?

I agree Rincewind I too dont believe we will go big if indeed we do actually do anything in Jan. Alot will depend IMO on how the players we have in the middle actually react to the City game.

When SAF said straight after the game about how we played too open at the end name dropping Evra and Rio I believe this was to point the media spotlight away from the issues of being over run in CM. But unfortunately we all have eyes and it was far to obvious for everyone to see.

The guys have now got 2 months to earn themselves the places in the team and I think depending on how the personel react from now till then will determine how the spending (if any) goes in Jan.

Although I wouldn't be surprised if SAF has an eye on someone like Martinez for example where there is likely to be massive interest in the summer we try our hand in Jan to get a head start or maybe even sneek a deal in for either Jan or the summer ahead.

We all know we need a CM and I feel martinez would be perfect, but do u think we can attract him or a few other world class players? We arnt willing to offer top wages or fees to attract these players. Also don't agree with the fee quoted in the papers for martinez. I feel we will be restricted to youthful gems. And may have to rely on pogba and morrison for the near future.

"Joe

You obviously have not been on here very much, this is not a "sudden questionning of SAF" , in relation to our midfield it has been openly questioned for some time.

To start , what were his priorities in summer? I dont doubt Ashley Young is a good player but it was not a position we needed to prioritise in summer was it? We needed and have needed for a number of years a central midfield player, a quality midfield player. In 1993 SAF didnt hesitate when he bought Keane or when he went after Veron (who I thought was better than most made out) but there seems to have been a problem in the last 3 summers preventing SAF buying a good quality midfield player, not even James McCarthy.

I agree that you dont have to spend £35M to get one, however the world has moved forward thanks to Sky and 24 hour coverage and most of the promising players are scouted or known to everyone on here let alone SAF. So there is less chance of springing a surprise cheaply. We will likely have to pay what it takes if we want to sign someone unless they either have 1 year left on their contract or a buy out clause and it is there where we wonder whether there is the appetite to spend more than what we spent on the three recruits last summer.
Last season we were champions but anyone watching could see that the blow up of Chelsea midseason left us with a relatively clear run. We have not improved our midfield since and now City as well as Chelsea will not give us such an easy time. The Championship, well like all other reds I have this image of us suddenly going on a powerful run as we did in the past. We might, but it is far less likely given that midfield.
I would happily bet with you that we will not win the Champions League this season without strengthening, if we do then I promise to come on here and say I was completely wrong.

What amazes me is that there are so many who accept that our era could come to an end very easily given what City are doing whilst we dither on strengthening midfield. No doubt there were Liverpool fans in 1990 who said the fans shouldnt question the club.

I am eternally grateful for what SAF has done for us but there are questions about our lethargy in the transfer market that wont go away until we see the midfield resolved. Maybe Pogba and Morrison can do it but how much pressure are we placing on them to carry the central midfield in the absence of a real quality player to show them the way.

All I would say is open your eyes a little, if you go to the games it really is pretty obvious what we are missing and if you can see it then either SAF is restricted by our wonderful owners or is refusing to see the obvious.

My eyes are open Red Man, and what I see is a brilliant manager, and one lost game. I admit we have not played particularly well recently but we've picked up results. I don't think I should have to mention that the judging of a good team comes when they are playing badly, and with the exception of City we have done okay. We never get going until after Christmas anyway.

Also I do come on here often, and though there have been rumblings in the past of a similar line of thought, all of this sprang up just as soon as the game was over on Sunday. It's one loss - I think we should all get over it and stop playing fantasy football on here with who we want to buy. Let's just get to the weekend, watch the Everton game - see where we're at, and leave Fergie to make the important decisions..

I think we have to get barkley imo hes the best out of morrison and mceachran,
hes only 17 its scary to think hes 6 years younger than cleaverly,
he reminds me of a young rooney with is build, hunger and rawness hes top top quility and would make a great partner for cleverly as he attacks AND defends.
The coaching staff at everton say hes the best talent they've ever seen at the club an was developing so fast he was actually expected to make his senior debut last year at 16 but broke his leg, the kid is a phenomenom if fergie wants him we may be forced into buying in January as other clubs are sniffing round.
