If I am not mistaken Strootman shares the same greedy agent as Hazard. The very same agent that wanted £6m from the Hazard deal. I guess we have made a move for Strootman in the past couple of days and his agent is holding us ransom. What a shame, Strootman and Zaha in January for £20m would have been good business. Add a couple established players in the summer and we mean business.

Sydney!

Believable10 Unbelievable2

If that is the case syd then it will be a disappointment for Strootman as he will be missing out on joining the biggest club in the world... and left wondering what could have been.. much like hazard is now....

29 Jan 2013 23:02:48
surely the agent is just the employee of the player. Tell him to get the deal done or sack him.

Agree9 Disagree0

Strootman agent is chiel dekker, John bico looks after hazard
so I would say it's more likely the simple truth is we never made a move
jred

Agree4 Disagree0

Ahhh, agent problems again being the hold up, is it?

I guess it's on the phone to Mr Mendes, to see if he's got any young Portuguese or Brazilian lads on his books that we've never heard of.

Why is it only us that has problems with agents? I've not seen any other team call off a deal due to the manager and player's agent not seeing eye-to-eye.

RED_SKY

Agree3 Disagree5

No name, you would be surprised just how much influence agents have on their clients. I am not completely convinced Pogba wanted to leave. Did Hazard really favour a move to Chelsea? Nasri wanted the United move before his three reps were promised £1.7m each if they 'convinced' him to join City. Agents do have power, especially the high profile agents.

Sydney!

Agree1 Disagree0

Well said RED_SKY, there's far too much moralising of United's unwillingness to line certain agent's pockets while ignoring the fact that we were a very much part of creating the problem by elevating the status of Mendes in particular. United are not adverse to being involved in transfers in which agents receive massive amounts of money, the only difference is that we prefer that the money goes to our preferred greedy leeches.

Danny Pughnited

Agree0 Disagree1

Players have more than one representative and I believe both Strootman and Hazard are clients of the agency 'firstelevenISM'.

Compared to vidic, which defender will be the best? Jones, smalling, Evans or wooton? I love smalling and Evans but who has the biggest potential? {Ed004's Note - Smalling no doubt in my mind. I've been talking about him since the summer}

Believable2 Unbelievable0

Probably Smalling but Jones will become a top CB too IMO and they will form a top partnership. I like Evans too and think Keane will be another good option in years to come. So I'm really happy with our CB options. Wooton I doubt will make it at United though.

Gav

Agree4 Disagree0

I think there's nothing between them in terms of potential.

Obviously Johnny has that bit more experience at the minute. I think he is the best of the three on the ball and possibly the best reader of the game out of the three.

Jones is a personal favourite. His name is usually followed by 'beast' on this site, and that's exactly what I think he will turn out to be - a bigger, stronger Vidic.

Smalling has a combination of both the other's attributes, and shows a great positional awareness, especially for a guy who was playing non-league football not so long ago.

I think Fergie must be scratching his head at the thought of having to pick two from those three in the future, but will obviously be delighted to have that dilemma.

I look around the other English clubs, and many of the top European clubs, and there's nobody in that position in that age-group, that I would swap for what we have just now. And I like the look of young Keane as well.

I can't understand the clamour on here for this central defender and that central defender - we can't buy every good player that comes along. Sometimes we just have to look at what we have, and say, 'you know what, I wouldn't swap these boys for anyone else'.

Defensive players thrive on continuity and familiarity, and these three have been, and hopefully will continue to be, training and playing together for many years. I think that makes for a better defensive unit, than constantly wanting to buy the latest foreign sensation.

Well done Harry and Fabio. Must get the three points tomorrow though and keep picking up three points for the next few. We have a tricky run-in so 7+ points going into the final 7 or 8 games would be a massive help.

Sydney!

Believable9 Unbelievable0

Hi sydney I was telling that to my friends that if we have like 7 or 10 points lead we will have a big advantage on the team in second place, cheers mate zee:)

Agree4 Disagree2

Agreed Syd, we have the easier run than City til we meet them but they have the easier run-in. Ideally we would be more than 7 points ahead by the derby so a win tomorrow is essential. Hoping for a strong performance being at OT with most of the lads fit.

Agree1 Disagree18

That's like kicking a puppy. What a t?!t.

Kuala

Agree7 Disagree0

Klooty, you come across as a total fool when you try to undermine other peoples validity in being a United supporter. No one has to justify or prove anything to you about anything. And you have no right to put your 'fanhood' above anyone elses Quit coming across as being above every one else and you may understand what the word' United' means. Your need to be above others only reflects a deep disconnection and loneliness on your part, so you attack the very thing you don't really have: a sense of being 'united'. Try practising a little acceptance and tolerance towards other United fans and see what happens.
jomo

Agree8 Disagree0

People need to realise there is a difference between fans and supporters....supporters are the ones who go to games and put money into the club etc, but if you love and follow united or any club then your a fan, nobody can say your not a real fan, only you know if your a real fan or not...Im a big United FAN from Salford I get to a few games when possible, but I never miss a match weater it be in a pub or at home or at OT... am I not a real fan?....No disrespect KLOOT but you can't say people arent proper fans, your a true supporter and I take my hat off to you, but fans are fans wherever there from :)

Rouge Diablo :)

Agree7 Disagree1

Kloot isn't a supporter, he just buys his season ticket so that the glazers can spend his money in America!

GDS

Agree7 Disagree0

I was making a point that had nothing to do with this Zee fella yet he came on and made comments about me. Am I not allowed to reply I AM KLOOT

Agree1 Disagree6

Im afraid KLOOT seems to want no debt, top players that means spending top money on wages and transfers and all that with only 76000 utd fans in the world... But in the real world football clubs relies on fans like ZEE to help fund all this, yes the debt is bad and the glazers are not wot we wanted but its there and we have to deal with it!
So everybody who has never been to OT stop supporting utd, and buying shirts and merchandise and go elsewhere and we would see if KLOOTS dreams come true! i'm sorry mate but some of your views are bang out of order, why shouldn't ZEE or any1 else support utd they have just as much right as u! It might hurt but that's the reality! Do you support fc united?
Chris the REDman

Agree3 Disagree0

There's a massive difference between reacting and responding. It seems Zee was replying to something you had previously wrote. A post I can't find btw.
nevertheless. United are a global entity, and could not be where they are if they were being supported on all levels locally ( I seem to recall this same discussion playing out las year or the year before)
jomo

Agree2 Disagree0

Your evil knows no limits KLOOT. The old 'Im a bigger fan than you are' is SO juvenile mate. Are you not a bigger man than to come out with such tripe? Whatever keeps you happy I guess. I do try to respect your posts but it's getting harder by the week...

You obviously have no ability to be objective and impartial because whilst other poster's are able to cite 2 sides of a debate and try to make sense of both - you are so firmly strapped to one side of it that your views are clearly biased by that fact.

I'm pretty sure it's open minded people who get to the truth, by their very nature. Narrow minded people like yourself who think they 'know best' are rarely the people who talk sense. Hence the massive pinches of salt I will be accompanying your posts with in future ;)

Agree1 Disagree0

Some of the replies I see on here normally in response to kloots comments make me certain that a high percentage of his detracters have no idea of what it means to be a fan of manchester united.ask any loyal hard core fan what they would prefer the last 20 years or the 20 before that, and I would guarentee a large percentage including myself would say the latter.i couldn't care less if we won trophies or not if that's what drives others then there kidding themselves that there a true fan.the buzz at the games was something that a lot won't experience in todays quiet sanatized stadiums around the country including old trafford.as old hard core fans have left through costs or dissalusion at what the game has become.old trafford is now at least half full with souless fans(i use that term loosely) who have no passion for football and add nothing to an atmosphere that sadly other than 5 or 6 games a season is one of the worst in the premier league.most are there to tell all there friends or workmates guess where I was saturday.the club are driving the commercial side forward with little regard for the fans who have been there through thick and thin as long as they can get there greedy little hands on someonelses money they don't care.you all go on about this global fan base of hundreds of millions including a few on here, yet we can't sell all our season tickets, strange that or is it that there's not that many true fans about willing to put the money where there mouth is ?.if you live in the uk and are employed then there's no excuse to not visit a few games a year, tickets are always availible and coach travel is cheap.you can agree or disagree with everything I've said all you like but I stand by my thoughts on what's gone wrong with the game in general.like kloot I think the glazers are a cancer that has hurt the club I have supported and watched for 41 years and I will always despise them for that I find myself reading some comments on here and feel like screaming when someone says there not that bad.be careful what you wish for the older hard core fans are being pushed away to leave a largely clueless bunch of individuals with no passion, even at away games where the loyalty pot is being eroded .so what some might say well guess who, s been protecting the normal fans at away games for decades from other clubs no mark pretend hoolies, the same people now being driven out by greed and not enjoying there match day experience anymore, sitting next to daytrippers and listening to there version of what the games about, no passion no heart no clue sums these people up, thankfully where I sit there's still plenty of passion and noise at least for now.

Johndenton

Well written post and it's nice to hear about the 'good old days' I wish I could have been part of that. Although I'm just 27 I'm quite old fashioned at heart.

But I think what you are talking about is a general change in football and society as a whole. It's not a United thing, it's how the game is going/has gone. For instance, there are no Glazer's at Arsenal, yet their tickets are even more extortionate so their hardcore fans have been pushed away too. The same goes for every top Premiership club though IMO. It is a sad trend, I agree. The every day supporter should be able to afford to go to every last game, it should not be a luxury IMO. They can do it in Germany but the EPL seems to be more driven by money.

The lack of passion at grounds is also sad but is a natural by-product of high ticket prices. I'll agree it's particularly bad at OT but that's an inevitability IMO due to the size of our 'draw'.

The point about making it to the ground is interesting. I live in South Wales these days but try to make it to OT 3 times a season as there's nothing like seeing and feeling it live. But the truth is society has changed rapidly and to some watching it online or at the pub will be the norm (as it is for me mostly). And of course many fans live in different countries.

So I do agree that it's sad about ticket prices, lack of passion etc. but don't see it as a United or Glazer thing particularly.

With regards season tickets, whether I lived in Manchester or not I could not personally justify te price at current rates. Which again, is a sad thing in my eyes.

I was wondering what style of play people would like to see United implement next season in attack? I am undecided between focusing on playing a very creative attack with quality ball players such as silva, mata, cazorla etc or a fast paced direct attack such as Madrid's with fast wingers such as Ronaldo, bale, valencia etc.

Personally I think we should aim for a bit of both. Currently I'm not a big fan of Valencia and I don't think many are on the site atm, however, due to his loyalty and effort I'd love to see him rekindle his form from last season but if he doesn't I'm not sure if I could turn down an offer of 20 or so million for him from another team as it could be spent elsewhere. I am resigned to the fact Nani is leaving and I think Zaha is his replacement.
Now I think this would be a very fluid and creative attack useful for when we are playing at home against teams that sit back
Ozil/Gotze/Isco/Rodriguez....Rooney....Kagawa
.....................................RVP
Now either of those 4 signings are good on the ball and would improve us greatly.

Now for games were we have to sit back and break at pace Valencia is ideal due to his defensive attitudes. Young picks himself for his work rate and he seems to perform in big games as he is good defensively and breaks quickly. Now Valencia as I said would be my pick but if he doesn't improve I reckon we may have to rely on Zaha, even though he is unproven unfortunately. He has that bit of something that could hopefully change an away game with a bit of brilliance and he is quick enough for the break. But I could see us having to play Jones again to cover Rafael and Zaha if that was the case. So for away games
Zaha/Valencia......Rooney/Kagawa....Young
...........................RVP
I suggest Kagawa as he is slightly better at keeping the ball and a bit quicker than Rooney. Also RVP is an automatic pick for every big game. His hold up play and movement is brilliant.
Now shortly in defence and for the goalkeeper position I think we are fine and well covered except in left back were I'd replace Evra with Baines or Shaw.
Midfield is a key issue. I can see a mass exedus which would leave us with only having Carrick (been brilliant lately), Cleverley and Anderson. So I'd like to see 2 signed. One defensive such as Wanyama or Bender, possibly Witsel if he is forced out and Cabaye (as the main target) with either Modric if Madrid sell I doubt that highly though and Moutinho maybe? Can't think of a creative midfielder unfortunately not many about. Wilshere would be a brilliant signing as he is a very hard worker and seems to be a natural leader for such a young lad.

According to ESPN, MUFC's top midfield target is Strootman, but that SAF is unhappy with Strootman's agent for some reason. This is why we are looking very hard at Wanyama, apparently, as an alternative.
Anyone know anything more on this?

No news as such just a point of veiw if this story is correct then this is where saf let's hisself down he gets to personaly involved and has a dislike for a lot of modern day agents if we have identified strootman as the top target then providing saf thinks he can fit into our team then the fact saf doesn't get on with his agent shouldn't stop us signing him let gill deal with the agent and saf deal with the player

it is fair to say that giggs and scholes have been absolute legends for utd but if we are honest, they have been past their best for probably 5/6 yrs now.

they are still able to put in good performances simply because they were truly great players in their primes (scholes in particular proved just how good he really is when he came back out of retirement last year).

because of this, I don't think we should be looking to replace them as they are now but try and replicate what they gave us when in their peaks

i believe this has already begun, carrick has shown he has the passing ability and composure to control games from a deeper position (scholes current role) but it is kagawa who is better suited to the scholes of old role, (imo more so than rooney) technically brilliant, unlocking defences with deft passes and making late runs into the box providing goal threat.

i believe to get the best from kagawa he must play behind the strikers, even if that is at the cost of rooney, who imo is very over rated and that if he weren't english, would not be held in such regard.

finding a player to replace giggs seems, on the surface, much simpler. there are many wingers who are very quick and skillful but too few fail to live up to their early promise, zaha certainly has the potential and I do not expect any big signing to come in the summer so if nani does leave as expected, he should def get the games to improve further.

it is obvious our midfield needs strengthening, so I predict strootman to come in with perhaps either cabaye or wanyama. I can see rio leaving so another cb (garay maybe) and lewandowski coming in, as to which fwd will leave either rooney (unlikely) or welbeck, rvp won't be going and I can't see us selling hernandez.

dags
p.s. sorry for the long post

While I think kagawa is a fine player with a big future, do you think we would have beaten city at their place if he was playing instead of rooney?

As I believe it unlikely that rooney will leave in the near future, there will obviously be games in which he will be preferred to kagawa in that position

however I would still prefer to play kagawa as he is technically better than rooney and less prone to losing possession so would fit better into this new style that we are adapting into (not to say rooney couldn't)

don't get me wrong, rooney is a very good player but, I do not think he is a world class striker, when on form yes, he can be unstoppable, but like nani his form can be quite erratic (although not nearly to the same extent) however unlike nani, rooney gives 110% in every game which is probably why we rate him so highly.

if you were to ask any football fan to make a fantasy XI, rooney would prob not even make the subs in 9/10 cases

Id love to see him progress like rafael but i'm not confident he'll do it, once evra retires I think tyler blackett might be on the scene and if he progresses I can see him being our left back for many years, fabio would make excellent competition for him though, be interesting to see what happens in the next few years.

You all so bitter towards the Liverpool mob because apart from being worth £2 billion, having tons of fans and selling a shed load of shirts you are by quite a distance the 2nd best club in England.

Is that what rankles you, their 63 trophies to your 62, their 9 doubles and trebles to your 7 and their 5 Champions league wins to your 3 or maybe the 19 places and 25 points back in '74 when you got relegated.

Thus all your bragging rights are off field as opposed to on field. Once you surpass them on field though you guys can have a real field day.

Or does it go much deeper than that. Just thought we'd all ask. What's your thoughts to 007.

I'm sorry no nome, but how does the value of the club rising benefit supporters? It's one thing to argue that if the club's profits rise it's a good thing because they could potentially be reinvested in the club. But if United's share price rise this adds nothing. The shares have already been sold and the lion's share of the profits repatriated to Glazer pockets, so if the share price rises all this means is that some investor can make a personal profit if they cash in.

In terms of the overall value of the club rising this is potentially a bad thing. Again the stated value of the club is not the same as annual profits. All it means is that if the Glazers do decide to sell it will require even more money for any perspective owner. Which increases the likelihood that in the event of a sale the buy(ers) would have to resort to a leveraged buyout lumping the club with a potentially vastly greater debt.

Danny Pughnited

I may be being very naive here and do not claim to be an expert but surely the club being valued more is because it is making more money.
If it is making more money then at least there is more money available to spend.
I agree that doesn't mean that it will get spent as it may well just go into the pockets of the glazers but at least there will be options.
Surely that has to be a good thing and puts us in a much better place than a club that has very little available to spend and still needs to satisfy their owners whether they are private or shareholders.

I am not saying the glazers are the best thing that happened to united but I don't think they are the worst either.
The way in which they bought the club is shocking to say the least but to be fair they have worked wanders to improve the business side (like it or not that matters) and are paying the debt off quite quickly.
I also think ( probably wrong though) that they have been quite generous with the funds for players. We seem to have spent quite a lot but recouped very little by selling players obviously apart from Ronaldo.

Karllap

Believable0 Unbelievable0

The valuation. Of the club is primarily speculative. The club hasn't been listed for sale so there is no actual value. Instead either financiers or stock exchanges speculate about what a perspective buyer may be willing to pay. Speculation is based around things like share price, current assetts, current profitability, but is far more concerned with projected future earnings. This means that the most important thing in regard to speculative valuation is how much money the company is likely to make in the short and long term future. However, for those of us living through a (triple dip?) recession should probably know, the speculative futures market often prone to massive errors in inflating projected returns.

The Glazers are very good a making money from the club. I'm not sure if this is a reflection on their business acumen considering so many of their other businessess are failing. But they do bring in a lot of money to their ManU business. However, bringing in money for their business is not the same as bringing in money for the club. Their goal will always be to make as much money as possible. We do have funds but not nearly as much as clubs with less profits, for example, Bayern Munich. Also they pay off the debt because it's in their interest. If they pay off the debt they can start taking serious dividends. Plus if they were really committed to eliminating the debt they would have used the share money, like they said they would, instead of pocketing the majority.

The Glazers's primary interest is to make money from the club. Thy want on pitch success because this is key to making money. But they also want on pitch success at the lowest possible operating cost because that's how businesses function. By the time they sell the club, if they ever actually do, they will have pocketed something approaching $4 billion without spending a cent of their own money. In any other context that would be called a heist, in the world of business it's called entrepreneurial spirit.

Danny Pughnited

Agree1 Disagree0

Karllap

They are not paying the debt off Manchester United are.
Remember it was the Glazer debt in the first place not the clubs.

Simmo

Agree1 Disagree0

There is nothing stopping them taking dividends now. They are well within their rights to do so. Paying off debt is beneficial for many reasons, one being it lowers the interest rates. Less money paid out means more cash flow. What they do with that extra cash flow is evident today, we have revamped Carrington, purchased land and property around OT and we have been spending far more than previous years on players. I just hope this continues.

Sydney!

Agree1 Disagree0

Cheers for the reply's guys, good interesting debate without us having a go at each other.
I still think they aren't the worst owners in the world, ultimately they are business men so obviously want to make money but if you look at other owners out there (except sugar daddies) they ain't bad.

Simmo, unfortunately mate like it or not they own Manchester United so they are paying the debt of.

karllap

Agree0 Disagree1

I'm with Syd. The spending has been there in the last 2 years since the debt has come down to a more managebable level. I too just hope that level of spending now continues, there's no reason why it shouldn't given the current accounts. So long as the level of investment remains healthy I don't see much point worrying about the rest (what happened in the past, what will happen in the future) as it's an inevitability that no amount of worrying about will fix.

I notice on the MUFC Website they keep mentioning that Rio Ferdinand has never won the FA Cup, this has been brought up numerous times by certain players and even SAF. I have a feeling we will go all out to win it not just for the club but for him to finally taste a little bit of FA glory.

I believe Rio will be gone in the summer and a replacement will be brought in for him, Zouma or Ogbonna in mind.

And as SAF has mentioned that all 4 strikers are giving him trouble when selecting, maybe he should try and 4-3-1-2 with Rooney behind Chicha and RVP. I think this would be a deadly partnership, Welbeck can chip in too if needed.
