Ole out. Only joking smells a lot like fergie days 2-0 down and still salvage a point, lessons have been learned like don't play Jones.

Not just jones I think he made too many changes in general, did the same against reading, said before the game mata and lukaku would slow the attack and so it proved. Was good to see we kept going until the end.

What did Jones do wrong? Pereira, Mata and Lukaku are. It good enough to be in our starting line up and tonight showed that, too many changes and we struggled to break down a tough side. Still though, 80% possession ad 17 shots and a great performance from our ex academy keeper, still feels far removed from 6 weeks ago.

Mata and Lukaku slow us down too much, think ole will revert back to his favoured line up for Leicester.

Loved the game today, the old united is back. We never lose, we only ever run out of time!

Both Burnley goals could have had fouls in the build up, but no complaints, this is why we love the premier league.

Burnley always show up against United, bardsley and Heaton always have a blinder. Tonight every Burnley player raised their game.

United heads didn't drop, I liked the subs, the calmness from Ole on the touchline.

It may only be a point, but for me it is another massive tick in Ole's box for the perminant job.

Perreira's pressing and energy was nowhere near as Herrera.
Rashford had an off day.
And to be honest, Mata kept finding pockets of space but was not given the right pass.

Exactly Dodgy, I don't know if any of fellow posters observed a few things which led me to believe what you are saying

First, at 2-2 when we scored Ole didn't celebrated at all, it was like he was not content with a draw, he wanted to go for all3 points. May be the selection was also in his mind and he knew he made a mistake by making far too many changes in that 11.

Secondly, when Jesse was fouled during an attack in injury time, he continued to go on and when ball was out of play Moss decided to give yellow to the player, and Jesse was furious on the seconds lost in giving the yellow. Its like let him not take a yellow and let us play.

A question, why was the game ended before 5 minutes of injury time even when a goal was scored in it and an awful amount of time wasting was done by Burnly? If I remember correctly the game was ended at 94:48ish.

Lukaku goes off and we score two goals, play so much better without him, he's awful. 2 points dropped, further away from top 4, hopefully Chelsea and Spurs lose tomorrow.

On another note, the ref was crap, blew the whistle before the 5 mins were actually up, interfered with play and how he didn't see at least another minute and a half should have been given was bs.

Ah well. Got away with a point and shows great character to come back from the dead. Still unbeaten under Ole.

I never thought Ole was the right person for the job but my god has he lifted the club. United showed unbelievable heart and desire at 2 down. if he gets the job and is backed in the transfer market unfortunately for everyone else United could be a force.

Scholes,

This is not just a problem with tonight’s ref but all refs, how can it ever be exactly a certain number of minutes to add on unless they are just making it up? The fact they do just make it up allows players the chance to time waste as we saw tonight on goal kicks, throw ins and substitutions and they know they time will never be added back.

We weren’t going to win every game and if we are going to drop 2 points I would rather it be like that than the other way round, now we will see how we react to that on Sunday, we certainly need to win the next 2 or at least get back to performing well before PSG arrive, what a night that will be.

Scholes he also missed a clear penalty for handball inside the box. Usual English refs, then they wonder why no wants this lot at the worldcup.

Definately not a post based on the team of late or the kneejerk reaction after watching us play much more attractive football; but I really can't see what all the hype regarding Pochetino becoming or being a favourite by many to be our next manager. Whilst he is far from the worst I fail to see the justification as he has not built a team, he hasn't won anything and although he has his hands tied somewhat by Levy in the market, he hasn't bought anything out of the ordinary.

Believable2 Unbelievable3

29 Jan 2019 15:57:42
I think he is a good candidate, is he the best? Who knows. He has built a very good Spurs side, however, I think he has taken them as far as he can. I don't think Levy has the balls to make the next step and invest in the size and depth of the squad needed to take the team over the line and win the league and truly challenge into the latter stages of the ECL.

Pochettino sets his side's up well and they play good entertaining football. He has also help develop many players and improved them during his time with them. He does give youth a chance. He doesn't make a fool of himself during interviews and he doesn't show up his club. So he does tick many boxes. The only one he doesn't is actually winning titles, now you could say he is at a side that lacks the ambition needed to make that serious push to win. Yet it is also far to say Spurs had an excellent opportunity to win the league a couple of seasons back but lost out to Leicester who on paper were an inferior side.
His side has also shown a mental fragility in numerous cup competitions, which is a concern. But like winning becoming a habit so does falling when the finish line is in sight.
Maybe that wouldn't happen at another club with players more acquainted with winning.

Either way it's clear why he should be considered, yet until Ole loses a game then it's becoming harder and harder to see past him.

Agree3 Disagree0

29 Jan 2019 16:02:23
He has built a team. In spite of the financial restrictions (and these are quite big in comparison to rivals) he has built a very good team that consistently finishes in the top 4. A few years back when they finished second, they were capable of pushing for a title with a bit of backing. Poch got nothing, but maintained top four when his competitors all spent pretty big.

His teams work hard, play good football, and he gets the best out of a significant amount of his players. His transfer record is a bit iffy, but with a director of football, this wouldn’t be a concern. Ole has started increadibly well, but is miles behind Poch in experience and success at this level.

Agree1 Disagree0

29 Jan 2019 16:10:16
I hate to be one of those people but getting spurs consistently in the top 4 shows more managerial nouse that winning a cup. Their first 11 is fantastic and to improve that would take a lot of money the club just doesn't have in midst of a stadium move.

He's just a solid manager as Shappy said above. He has shown he can consistently make the step up to the next level. If Ole wasn't doing so well I have no doubt in my mind our number one target would have been Poch, but right now, Ole hasn't put a foot wrong so the waiting continues.

Agree1 Disagree0

29 Jan 2019 16:47:46
You forgot he doesn't sign well shaps. Many a player he has bought are poor enough, even for the money they spent.

Whether levy has the balls to invest or not, surely he might also be reluctant to let poch spend money. His track record for that doesn't read well.

OGS has done everything right so far and might just be the correct fit for the club.

Agree1 Disagree1

29 Jan 2019 16:57:32
Spurs have never finished second in the premier league era.

Agree1 Disagree2

29 Jan 2019 17:22:12
Angel if your spending is an order of magnitude lower than the teams you're competing with you can't compare or judge him on it. They've been out invested by the likes of West Ham and Everton. The fact he has managed to keep them where they are is miraculous.

Agree2 Disagree0

29 Jan 2019 17:49:00
Angel, Pochettino has had some poor signings, he has also had a few good ones. Its hard to judge a manager on their signings as whether a club can sign a player is dependant on far more factors than whether the manager wants them or not.

For example do you believe Spurs have the financial muscle to out bid and offer as high or higher wages than any of the top sides in Europe?
If the answer is no then they just can compete for the top players. Which is the case, Spurs can't sign the same level of players that we, City, Chelsea, Liverpool, Bayern Munich, PSG, Barcelona and Real Madrid can. So if there are at least 8 sides who can sign the best players ahead of you then you have to shop smart, you need to sign players from the next bracket down. Players who have a question mark over their head for one reason or another. Maybe they failed previously at a top club, maybe they have never had the chance, maybe they have potential but are yet to show it consistently or perhaps their mentality/ attitude has been questioned.

That means Spurs are always starting from a few paces behind in terms of transfers and that they are always more likely to have a flop than a hit in many ways.

Also we don't know exactly how much impact Pochettino has on Spurs signings. Clearly he is involved, but is he the man to put names forward or does he just ask for players who fit a certain criteria then the scouts and money men decide who comes in?

That's why I'm prepared to give him the benefit of the doubt when it comes to signings.

Nathaniel, he has still bought badly despite how much the player cost. His recruitment skills are incredibly questionable.

{Ed025's Note - i dont think he has much say to be honest..

What happened in 16/ 17 Damon? But too young to be getting forgetful p.

Agree1 Disagree0

29 Jan 2019 18:16:34
You reckon ed025? So those players bought while he has been manager have had very little to do with him?

That's a tough job if that really is the case. I'm sure a read a great piece by ed001 recently speaking a lot about poch and his signings.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - levy and his cronies have the say on players coming in as far as i know angel..

29 Jan 2019 18:21:28
Shappy, I get all of that. Of course spurs don't have the same muscle as the top teams. And again, maybe poch doesn't have much say, but bad signings most definitely outweigh the good signings he has made during his tenure.

It's really tough to know whether or not he is a good fit for united anyway. Poch has 2 things that go against him, signings made and the consistency in which spurs always seem to fade away when at the end of a cup challenge.

You wrote a great post on ole and united the other day. It really might be a case of OGS being the right fit at the right time for this club.

Agree1 Disagree1

29 Jan 2019 18:33:38
Maybe so ed0025. Then it's unfair to judge him on that.

Surely just makes his job harder. Why does he stay there then?

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Jan 2019 19:43:17
I like Poch don't get me wrong but if you compare our record Vs his record over the last 3 years.

FA Cup, Uefa cup, League Cup, 2nd place finish last year.

Spurs man for man have what many perceive as superior to our own, yet they've won nothing and seem happy based on recent comments finishing top 4.

Appreciate he is under financial constraints but they had a very good team recent signings have been poor though.

Ole for me 100%.

30 Jan 2019 05:43:16
Poch is not afraid to promote youth and handles young players well.
He gets the best out of most players.
The style of play is pleasing to the fans.
The way Spurs beat Real and Barcelona recently in champions league was impressive.
Wonder what kind of players he will target if he becomes the United manger.
