Right I have my coffee and viagra at the ready for tonight, what's everyone's predictions for tonight's game? Psg have not looked that impressive so far in the these games so I'm going with a 3 - 1 win. Depay pereira and Rooney goals.

Regardless of the full time score, I'm confident we will see Zlatan on the scoresheet

No doubt sparking the usual post game speculation tomorrow about a DM and Ibra swap.

New time user been reading the posts for years only just thought I'd sign up for this site, love the banter and views, I like every red fan on here loves the gossip!, just wanna chuck my opinion in here, I wanna say that I think the only thing we need to make our great team complete is a world class cb maybe otamendi, himmler can't see it though tbh after saying wants to say at dortmund, but if we get a world class cb I'm sure smalling rojo mcnair would be amazing alongside a player of that calibre would flourish and form an amazing partnership, maybe we just need that leadership there to be the making of one of the cbs we already have.

So whos staying up for the game tonight ? i'm going to try up for work at 7.30 but it should be good game. is it just me or is anyone else slightly frustrated seen depay thru the middle i really wanna see him on 1 on 1s against full back .?

Believable5 Unbelievable0

29 Jul 2015 21:50:42
So we've now been linked with Stones. I don't know much about him.
1. Is the hype true? Is he any use?
2. Would people be happy if we picked him up? Is he good enough to start, or would we need another CB?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

29 Jul 2015 22:06:57
The bigger question is why we are staggering around trying to find a CB. Given our need your u would have hoped we had a proper strategy in place but apparently not. the Ramos chase appeared to be a knee jerk as does this (if true). Worrying

Agree1 Disagree0

29 Jul 2015 22:24:02
I feel Hummels was first choice, Ramos third Otamendi/anyone else will do

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Jul 2015 22:47:19
Vidic

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Jul 2015 23:39:57
It's a shambles that we haven't got a top CB in probably the only established club in the champs league without 1 decent CB. If we have honestly been clinging on to signing Ramos heads should roll. How many more times must we waste a window falling for some player using us as a means to increase their wages. yheir is absolutely no way we can compete for the league or Europe with the current CBs. So many of our problems stem from them being a) poor defenders and b) they look less comfortable than Carlton Palmer on the ball. We need a man in there to direct and order. Can be no excuse for LVG if we struggle he's had 3 windows now and we are no better there than we were under Moyes

Agree1 Disagree2

29 Jul 2015 21:06:58
Lots of fun speculating about Bale, Pedro and Ronaldo. I suspect that, with our strengthened midfield scoring goals will not be too much of a problem. The real issue remains the centre of our defence. Evans may be Everton bound and will not, in my view, be missed. Smalling needs a Hummels or similar type of player alongside him. Ramos will not be coming and interest in Ottamendi seems to have lessened. The days of security with Vidic and Rio seem long gone unfortunately.

Believable2 Unbelievable1

29 Jul 2015 21:19:22
Get Vidic back on a free .Give him a one year contract with an option tied into it .Evans or Vidic as back-up-Vidic all day long.GENIUS

Looking forward to the game, tonight. Think our performance levels have increased over the three games.

I think the Rooney and Memphis partnership is really interesting and I think lt could go somewhere. Add anothe winger/ wide forward and I think we will be ready to go in the attacking department.

At first I was hoping we would sign a muller or lewandowski but our youth are showing great progression and wouldn't want to compeltly cut them out with a massive name.

29 Jul 2015 21:08:47
You staying up trev?

Agree1 Disagree0

29 Jul 2015 21:17:28
Hi trev, assuming Hernández is sold would you be happy to go into a 55 game season with only 1experienced senior striker on the squad? What if Rooney is injured for a sustained period say 10 weeks? 10 league games 4 champ league games with Wilson or adnan leading the line?

Agree2 Disagree0

29 Jul 2015 22:15:28
I don't think so Ken! I mentioned earlier that I thought we should go all out for Lacazette. Pace, can finish and still loads of room for improvement. Can be an option on right side of front 3, up front if Rooney rested/injured or from the bench to change things and prob not for a fortune!

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Jul 2015 01:10:36
Of course Anon.
And no I wouldn't be happy at all, but it's got to the point where I'm trying to put things into perspective.
Chances of muller? Slimmer by the day.
Lacazette, don't think he will leave.
No chance of bale or benzema.
Lewandowski I doubt very much.
Ibra and lvg don't get on.

I just can't see no big striker coming in, and I don't know who else is out there that will significantly strengthen us. That's why I suggested youth progression, as options are slim at this moment of time. Could all change of course!

Agree6 Disagree0

29 Jul 2015 23:35:11
I know that this sounds like a very sour/sad thing to say about a player whom has achieved so much in his career but I would view Pedro as a squad player.

We are a club who have high ambitions and even higher standards. The calibre of player we should be looking for should be world beaters.

I don't mean to take too much away from Pedro as he dies have some great qualities but when his prime has been spent playing alongside Iniesta, ,Xavi and messi etc, it's very easy to look good in a considerably weaker league than ours. F' me, even ,Bebe would have done a job in that squad over the last 5-6 years!

Whats up guys long time reader of the site i decided to get in on action finally . i'd like start out by talking about how solid our new rb seems to be he looks a really focused player looking forward to his progression this season in what is a really hatd league to play in physically. nxt point is adm ha done to death but i just wanted say when we signed him i was really excited and to be let down is an understatement i think the chap is class he in the elite players under the messi and ron category but whatever happened him at us i do not know and now it seems like the reason is he just didn't wanna be hear in first place . we should try get marquintos in return with some money of psg would people be happy with this . opinions ?

29 Jul 2015 18:38:35
Hi guys, 3 quick ones,
1 great to see quite a few new posters welcome aboard 😈
2 how many more signings do you all see coming in before this window shuts. Personally I think 3 gk, cb, and bale
3 I'm not so sure di Maria is AWOL I would imagine that he is staying away with permission while the deal is concluded one way or the other. If he was AWOL it would be 10times the media scrum it is now. I hope we squeeze every penny we can from them, and buy a cb and new keeper cillessin with the proceeds then bend over and pay Madrid whatever it takes to buy bale including ddg.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

29 Jul 2015 18:52:17
The player isn't awol because the club know where he is. The issue is that he didn't get on the plane to join the rest of the club on pre season, and the reason he did this is because he is trying to force a move, and thereby reduce our bargaining position with PSG. Di Maria would have been in contact with people at the club and his agent, and his agent would have advised him how to proceed. LVG's public statement that he doesn't know why Di Maria didn't join the pre season squad is an acknowledgment that the player is acting counter to the club's interests.

Agree2 Disagree2

29 Jul 2015 19:35:24
I don't often disagree with you Danny but do you know what awol means? Secondly do you believe everything the manager says? Thirdly do you not think di Maria and or his agent would be hounded by the press if he was the worlds only footballer on strike?? Don't you think the manager and CEO and that odd looking little chap from the PFA Gordon Taylor would be all over sly spurts talking about it. he is on gardening leave, let's hope he doesn't get injured at home if a burglar gets in or it will cost the club millions

Agree3 Disagree0

29 Jul 2015 16:38:56
Considering our pathetic attempts to deal with Everton over the years it'l be interesting to see how easy Chelsea make it look

I know the Argentine Prima donna is leaving, but surely, the guy should be back in training. He is still be paid by United.

I know most would disagree, but I wouldn't sell him to PSG. The whole affair leaves a sour taste in my mouth. They have acted in a despicable manner and he is an odious mercenary who should be taught a few life lessons. Of course, he will get his move to that no mark club, and play in that two bob league.

They deserve each other!

Believable10 Unbelievable0

29 Jul 2015 17:03:33
I wouldn't let it bother you mate. Football is the game we all love , but it is morally bankrupt. I don't even blame PSG. All clubs behave in the same way to get what they want , us included.
If they come up with an acceptable offer for the player then they will be doing us a favour. Good riddance I say , which is a shame because I would usually wish departing players well.
Unfortunately , the ADM situation is exactly what happens when players come purely for the money.

Agree6 Disagree0

29 Jul 2015 17:19:30
Fine him 2 weeks wages and we've got another 0.5million back from our overpaying .

Agree1 Disagree0

29 Jul 2015 18:53:26
Is he really awol?
I'm not so sure, i'd say he is on gardening leave albeit on full pay. Keep your trap shut and you will get your move I'm sure he has been told. But we want to negotiate the best possible deal I'm sure.
Good riddance to him, a bit like veron I am disappointed it just didn't work out no matter what the reason. If ed gets anything over 40m he has done really well, as its above his true value irrespective of what we paid for him last year.
Ive seen figures between 30 and 52m reported by the press I reckon if he gets 40m + for di Maria we should take it and run.

Agree1 Disagree0

29 Jul 2015 19:31:24
As Betty says, all clubs do it. Look back to when we wanted Berbatov. And I believe we signed him on the last day of the window so Spurs had no time to sign a replacement. Unfortunately in this day and age, as soon as a players head is turned its pretty much nailed on he'll leave.
It's probably a bit more sour for us United fans because we're not used to selling our 'stars' until we're ready to move them on.

Agree1 Disagree0

29 Jul 2015 19:48:49
He may well be training at Carrington alone or with the u21s. I see the logic of not disrupting the USA tour whilst this goes on.

So far Depay to me has the style of both Ronaldos. He has the stock and power of the original Ronaldo and the dribbling, showmanship of Cristiano. If he could become half the player of either then we have a world beater on our hands. Hope he can.

Hi all! First timer here! Have been reading here for years and lately checking rumours 20 times a day hoping for news of a big arrival. My overall thoughts on our squad at the moment is that we are close but need 3-4 more to be there. CB has to be sorted! The club has known this needs addressing for some time so expect its in hand. Di Maria has to be gone! If he doesn't fancy playing for Utd, he obviously hasn't the bottle to deal wit it. Ed needs to go all out for Bale. He will give us back that counter attacking edge of our seat buzz which we haven't had since Ronnie was around. Now to finish it off I think Lacazette is our guy. Still young and learning but this guy will be a star. We need to move on some players now also in order to ensure our young talent be allowed to develop, but what a team they would be developing with.

Thanks Harry. Ya agree its a lot in at once but needed I think. Our investment in quality was lacking over a number of yrs and not had much luck developing lads. Was worried for a while that we would go the way of the lot up the road but thankfully now the future looks good!

Di Maria will play the first half for United, on half-time he'll sign for PSG and play the second half for them. That's IF he doesn't get injured by the 15 min. Pedro on the other hand will play the last 5 min, because of his plane landing too late.

Just a quick thought about our kit deal with Adidas, would love to hear what you all (eds included) think as I'm not an expert by any stretch of the imagination.
So what I'm thinking is the way football is going with the crazy amounts of money involved, could it be possible that in maybe 5 years time, halfway through our deal, we start to get overtaken by other top teams as we've committed ourselves to such a long period. We may the be stuck with what could potentially be a smaller deal than our competitors for a few years. We could see well over £100m a year being offered to the top teams soon and it's an area of the club which has been handled so well by Mr Woodward, I just wouldn't want to see us at a disadvantage.

Andy,

It is quite unlikely that any clubs will be as big a pull as Manchester United in the next few years so we have done an amazing deal and there is almost no chance we will be left behind I would imagine.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Jul 2015 16:07:02
They payed us a third of the value of our club to make our kits for us and you think it is possible that we could be at disadvantage? I am sure they only pay Real Madrid half of what they payed us.

29 Jul 2015 16:14:38
Lets face it there's only really Madrid as big globally. Barca perhaps.

29 Jul 2015 18:01:29
I don't know if this is true but apparently with nike when we sold merchandising (mugs, duvets etc) we didn't see a penny of the money whereas with the adidas deal we get 100 percent to the club. that's got to add up to a fair amount of cash i would have thought. I heard this from some guy at a corporate event but don't remember him being anything to do with utd (i had drunk a few too many vino's at that point of the evening). Can any ed's confirm if what i was told about the merchandising is true?

Bookedredmole

I actually read in a major daily newspaper that the biggest stumbling block to renewing with Nike was United’s insistence that rights for non first-team and training kit merchandise would be returning to the club.
Unlike the 50/50 split with Nike (after a set figure had been reached), they wanted to make sure that " if a United fan in Hong Kong bought a United clock and bed covers, that money would be going into the club’s piggy bank."

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Jul 2015 07:36:00
Red man that's interesting to know as its similar to what i was told (although i am sure the guy said we got nothing from nike as opposed to the 50/50 you read). Perhaps the person i spoke to had read something similar.

Darmian could prove to be one of the best RB's in the premier league this season. Really wishing the lad well! He's tidy in all area's (Including his bedroom, before any of you make a joke - looking at you Brendan)

I'm not going to be sucked into the ST-CB transfer business because to be honest, we will never actually know until he poses with a UTD kit.

Instead. What i wanna discuss is the new kit deal. Does everyone like Adidas, does anyone prefer Nike? Personally I've always been an Adidas man, from Trainers and Jumpers, to the design of football kits & boots they just seem more classy.

Believable4 Unbelievable0

29 Jul 2015 13:35:05

I agree with you tho Harry, on Darmian and the Adidas kit thing. My first kit was Adidas, so it will always be my preference, personally.

Agree2 Disagree0

29 Jul 2015 13:58:11
What I'm most excited for with Adidas is that they've announced they'll be doing a retro line of our kits, here's hoping for the 1990/92 blue/white away strip. Never buy new kits, all generic and a waste of money, I'll only ever buy retro ones to either wear to matches occasionally, or just to collect.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Jul 2015 13:59:52
Always Addidas over Nike. Looking forward to this years kit but it is possible they will go retro basic this year and it will be next year they really go to town.
Darmian looks a good buy. Hopefully he will cope with the PL and does turn out to be another Neville!

I normally don't really bother watching any preseason games but with these 'international champions cup' games this summer I have watched a fair amount of games as most have been televised and I have enjoyed watching most of them.

Anyway onto my point, when Di Maria leaves we all (or most of us) would expect him to be replaced by a reasonably talented player. I see cries of "Reus, Bale, Ronaldo and Greizmann etc" all of whom don't get me wrong would be great signings, but with Depay able to play on the wing (which I hope is going to be the case) I don't see the point in bringing in another winger.

I think we all feel like we are short in the striking department and I of course wouldn't mind sacrificing Di Maria for a top goal getter but if we plan on bringing in a midfielder I would like us to seriously look at Isco from Madrid. He has been the best player I have seen in all preseason games and his technique is unbelievable. He always plays with his head up and is the closest thing I have seen to David Silva (who I believe is the best playmaker in the league).

Would Isco be available? I'm not sure but I know he was linked with City and Arsenal a while back. Like I said if we sign a striker of top standing then fantastic but if we plump for another midfielder to replace Di Maria we should look at this guy who is, I believe, better than what we have already got.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

29 Jul 2015 13:18:58
I like Depay where he has been playing to be honest. Isco would be a great signing though.

29 Jul 2015 13:53:09
We need a right sided winger we can't keep playing mata there he slows the game up when we're trying to counter attack. The left sides sorted with young and depay if we're going to play with a no 10 I would rather it was her erra he's a better fit.Hfully pedro is getting signed for the right side and mata gets dropped to the bench it would make our forward line quicker and more dynamic instead of it being slow and laboured like last season

Agree0 Disagree1

29 Jul 2015 18:50:23
I would be disappointed if we signed Pedro to be honest? He's experienced that's all? I'd prefer, sorry to go on, either Felipe Anderson or Domenico Berardi? Much better options long term?

I feel for Jesse Lingaard. he always seems to do very well on tour, then get dropped after one poor prem start. It's been 3 pre-seasons now I've seen him play very well, yet fail to make a break in the first team. I remember when we sent him out on loan to Birmingham and he scored 4 on his debut. Give the boy a chance, he's 22 now and should be given his sink or swim orders.

Harry he was injured in the 1st game against Swansea and that is why he was substituted.

Rather than buying a squad player from elsewhere (like we did with Blind), why not give that role to Lingard. He can play in multiple attacking positions and always looks good when playing. If not then a loan to premier league club only where he will get his chances.

29 Jul 2015 13:47:22
The injury against Swansea completely ruined his season last year for us. I think he would have got his chance if not for that.

Agree1 Disagree0

29 Jul 2015 14:08:02
he got injured last season, maybe this season he can get the games, but we shouldn't just be giving games to players for the sake of it,

if there not up to the standard then they don't deserve to play, that goes for all players at the club.

but hopefully lingard and pereira(spelling) along with adnan get a fair amount of playing time this season.

He was given a chance vs Swansea and he got injured and was out for some time. It's hard to blood on youth when you need to win games and have better players ahead of them.

I posted a while ago about Pereira,

But in general our youth on tour has looked good, if they can take that into first team squad and then into games when they get there chance we might well be in for some exciting times!!

I like how van gaal has taken youth and played them on tour, Hopefully one of them nail down a first team place!

For me i would not sign anyone now and give them young lads a chance then strengthen in january if needs be !!

The only one I would keep this year is pereira I would put januziaj and linga rd out on loan especially januziaj he needs a year of guaranteed football to get his confidence back and linga rd us just a championship player and if we get pedro which I hope we do that will be well covered on the flanks I read people on here don't want pedro I don't know why he's exactly what we need and he's won everything there is to win is that not what we want a team full of champions

Agree1 Disagree4

29 Jul 2015 12:03:52
'Exactly what we need'.

Is he really? I thought we needed a striker and a centre back, not saying I don't want Pedro but he is anything but 'exactly what we need'. You seem like one of these people who would be happy to have a shiny new signing in every position?

Januzaj could be great this year, I would prefer to see him getting game time in our front 4 than elsewhere and Lingard could be an extremely useful squad player, he is not 'just a championship player' that is pretty disrespectful, I think if he left there would be a number of premier league teams interested in him.

Agree3 Disagree3

29 Jul 2015 12:15:14
Don't agree with the Lindgard comment. Every time I watch him, I'm impressed with him. As a late developer, he just needed to bulk up a bit. The rest of his game is already there. Certainly better than Championship level for me. A good squad player for us and would be a regular for most Premiership teams outside the top 6, imo.

Agree1 Disagree0

29 Jul 2015 12:27:02
GDS2 Pedro covers both the wing and the striker position and will be happy to play second fiddle to Rooney up top. He won't come in with a a Di Maria like fee/expectation and he certainly has bags of experience. I think he is close to 'exactly what we need'.

Agree1 Disagree0

29 Jul 2015 14:24:25
I have to ask is pedro better than Nani? May be slightly better and can argue about consistency. But why are we going to offload a winger and buy a slightly better winger. That is ridiculous . We must target an ultimate upgrade (Reus for me,is an outstanding player and won't cost more than 45m) . Else i would rather give Januzaj,Perreira, lingard a chance

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Jul 2015 14:31:53
Lingard has had 4 loans and everyone of them has been to a championship ship team and you would rather have januziaj than pedro a guy that's won everything I know who I would rather have

Agree0 Disagree1

29 Jul 2015 15:46:17
Most of our talented youngsters are loaned to Championship teams, including the likes of Beckham, who I wouldn't have classed as Championship level. It's these loans that make men of them, and determine whether or not they've got what it takes in a personal as well as professional sense. He's had 4 because, like I said, he's a late developer, and done very well in all of them.

29 Jul 2015 09:54:45
Despite what I thinks been a pretty good transfer window, I'm still concerned with regards to CB and ST. I think Darmain will be a very solid RB which we have lacked since Neville finished. Schneiderlin ( best transfer IMO ) will be a quality signing, very good player, good engine and again something we've lacked for years even under Fergies last 3/4 years. Schweinsteiger is a good signing in terms of his experience and being able to control the game. Hopefully his experience and fight will rub off on some others. Depay is raw, I'm not expecting 20 goals from him like last season. New league, news surroundings, more pressure yet I think he's capable of getting 8-10 goals. The lad looks strong and well suited to the PL. I think in a couple of years he would be one of the best players in the league. Romero I haven't seen a lot of but expect him to be back up regardless.

My issues lie with CB and ST. For me it's critical to get a top CB in. You can't win the league or Europe without a solid defence and as much as the midfield should help to a degree, we have no leader at the back. Smalling in the one I'd partner with a top CB. This should of been a priority this window. I've said from day one Ramos is playing us, I hope we don't waste time chasing him. There are plenty more, Otamendi, Godin, Laporte, Miranda, Garay, although some have now moved. I'd also move Evans on. I don't think at the right price he would be hard to sell. He's a good, mid table team player. Next summer i'd move jones on if no improvement. I think he's stagnated and is far to clumsy and wreckless to become top class.

I also think we're lightweight up top. i'm not convinced Rooney will get 25/30 goals. We all know his tendency to come deep looking for the ball. If he's off form or injured or suspended we will be relying on Wilson who in my opinion needs a season loan in the PL. I would have made sure a replacement was in before selling RVP. If not I'd rather have RVP on the bench as an option. If as the eds have said Lewandowski is available, then for £30m ish I'd go all out for him. Top quality striker. Not too many around.

I know there's still a month of the window and transfers can take time, so I'm not doom and gloom. But I think if we're going to challenge for league and Europe this year, we need both these positions filled. Otherwise I think it will be top 4 battle again this year.

Good work so far Woody. Just a couple more and were good to go!

Believable10 Unbelievable3

29 Jul 2015 10:14:30
Agreed.

However, I believe LVG expects everyone to contribute with goals far more than before so it does take a bit of pressure off Rooney.

Having said that, obviously I'd be happier with an additional top class striker.

It's going to be interesting to see how this all pans out!

Agree2 Disagree0

29 Jul 2015 11:03:57
I must be one of the few that does not want a new striker? Only because as Rooney is a shoe in to start when fit it annoys me when he's played out of position, and keeping him up top should be better for the likes of Mata and Herrara.

I'd rather 2 centre backs than a centre back and centre forward. Or maybe a centre back and someone to do what ADM was bought to do.

Agree2 Disagree4

29 Jul 2015 11:38:00
So if rooneys bang out of form it doesn't matter? He should keep his place regardless? Or if he picks up a 3 month injury, what then? It's ridiculous to go into the season with the strike force we have IMO

Agree8 Disagree0

29 Jul 2015 11:44:41
so if rooney got injured you would be happy with wilson/hernandez as number 1 striker??

29 Jul 2015 12:26:10

Agree2 Disagree2

29 Jul 2015 13:35:36

Agree4 Disagree1

29 Jul 2015 15:31:10
I think Hernandez is a higher quality backup forward than Evans, Blackett etc are backup centre backs, plus Jones is made of glass, Rojo yet to convince and Smalling has only had one half of a season where he's looked like he's not stealing a living.

And regardless of opinions, we all know Rooney is LVG's man and he's not dropping him.

So, yes I'd rather we upgraded the 11 at the back than the bench up front if it came to a choice between the two.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Jul 2015 17:06:32
Why would it come to a choice of either or? We can sign two more players if we like. We didn't score enough last year and Mark my words, if we don't sign a striker we won't challenge for the title. Simple as that imo

Agree1 Disagree0

29 Jul 2015 18:35:26
We scored 11 fewer than Chelsea last season. Less than 0.3 a game.

Will Rooney in his best position instead of a misfiring RVP or RF + the additions of Depay, BS and MS bridge and exceed that gap? Maybe it will, maybe it won't - but I don't think it's as much of a foregone conclusion as you paint it to be.

On my original reply I did state I'd rather 2 centre backs or a centre back + a replacement for ADM. 3rd on my list would be a centre forward, but as backup/rotation so as to keep Rooney in his best position most of the time.

I don't want to open up the Rooney debate and am not even offering my stance on it other than to state that I hate seeing him try and be Roy of the Rovers in midfield. But whatever each of us think re: Rooney LVG has selected him as captain and stated he's first on the team sheet, so I'd rather he's in his best position. If we signed an Ibrahimovic type they'd want to start up top and - rightly or wrongly - LVG would probably sacrifice someone like Herrara to fit Rooney in - that is my issue/concern with signing a centre forward.

I seem to be in the minority, but I don't mind that.

Well he signed a new contract at the end of last year and I was so glad about that, I have been following him since he was 16 (not in a Ronnie way) and have been so impressed and just felt like he needed to kick on (in a way that Wilson has yet to do) to be good enough for the first team. This pre season he has looked as good as any player. I feel like him and Luke Shaw could make a formidable partnership down the left side if LVG is looking to play Depay through the middle. He can also play behind the striker and also in the midfield similar to Herrera so hopefully there will be games for him this season to prove himself.

This could be januzaj and pereiras year to really push on

Believable1 Unbelievable4

29 Jul 2015 08:32:34
Without a top level forward we are too reliant on Rooney and others chipping in. That is a recipe for disaster and fourth will be a challenge on that basis. There are a few who are only kidding themselves that Rooney can score all our goals and Depay, new to the league , will be a revelation when the truth is that without a goal scoring quality threat we will have to scramble for the top 4.

Agree4 Disagree0

29 Jul 2015 11:40:17
I am not going to do formations but take a look at our competitors and tell me if we have the same goal threat that they do. Do people really think that our forward line of Rooney, Depay and perhaps Mata or Pedro can compare with Chelsea or City and if Arsenal get Benzema theirs as well. In Europe Madrid,Barca and Bayern are streets ahead.

We played our best football in 2008 with Ronaldo, a younger Rooney and Tevez and that was a threatening top three
.
Our central midfield is good and am happy with that but do feel that if you look at our forward line we need the fear factor after last season where we struggled to score.

No, we need a no1 striker and Rooney isn't it. We buy one and if Rooney can't play with him then he has to be benched. Yet why shouldn't he be able to play with one? In 2008 we played Tevez Rooney and Ronaldo together and played some of the best football, if not the best I have seen us play.
I have defended Rooney in the past but he is not consistent and can go through games in the pocket of a defender. SAF recognised his limitations and I will maintain we need another striker that is a No 1 choice that Rooney needs to adapt to. Fluidity may suit a Muller type. Yet it depends whether we are really going to rely on Rooney. That would not be my choice for sure
