Seems to be a lot of talk on here that we are after Central Defenders.
I don't see why to be honest. I think Rio and Vidic have been excellent recently and have showed they still have life in them and will surely be there next season.
Evans is the most improved player in our squad and have been encoraged by Jones when he has played in defence or midfield.
It has been a stop start season for Smalling but I think he will be fine although I think Jonny is above him at the moment.
There are other areas in the team that need addressing first.
Im going to get really boring again on here and say we should go all out for at least 1CM preferably 2.
Looks unlikely Fletch will come back, fairly sure Scholesy will call it a day for good this time and Ando I would sell to anyone who offered a half decent price, have had 6 yrs of him and that is at least 5 too many, get rid now!!
I think even the boss now sees that Giggs can still do a job on the left but not in CM.
Agree with a lot of people on here and think Clev is nothing more than a bench player.
Would like to see more of Powell next season.
Is Strootman the man we need, I do like him and I think he is buyable.
Ideas please folks?

At best a bench player/only in our midfield because its the worst midfield we've ever had! This is a young player who Sir Alex & Roy Hodgson continue to pick in all the big games who is playing under specific orders to keep possession linking defence with our forwards, we know he, s comfortable playing further forward than he's allowed to but will continue to do what he's told by the boss.
So get used to it Cleverley will be at United for many a season.
Apart from Chealsea second half please give me another team who have dominated our (worst ever) midfield this season!

Agree3 Disagree9

Spurs at home, they ran through us. There have been so many games where the opposition midfield have dominated us. We are top, despite our midfield, not because of it.

AJH

Agree9 Disagree0

No name person I agree Clev will probably be at United for years but not as first choice.
Carrick is clearly miles above Clev and if we bring in Strootman then no place for him but the bench like I said.
People keep saying he is better further forward but would you have Clev playing instead of Rooney or Kagawa, no never in a million years.
AJH is spot on with his Spurs comment and even teams like West Brom have overrun us in midfield yet again.
We have top forwards, great defence, great goalie we don't need to buy more, in midfield we have Michael Carrick and that's it.

Red Daz

Agree4 Disagree0

Blimey, spurs at home, Fulham at home where dembele ran the midfield, Everton away where filaini bullied our midfield, city in second half, Southampton home and away, Newcastle at Ot in first half where our midfield was non existent, spurs away in second half. I've not even mentioned the CL teams.
We have done superbly well with what we've got due to our strikers and lately our defenders, but if we want to win CL then we better buy some decent midfielders. End of.
Nomidfield

Agree7 Disagree0

It's not just the midfield two either, the wide men haven't been good enough.

IMO if you play with wide men you need 3 in the middle.

Agree2 Disagree2

You don't 3 if the 2 you have got are good enough and get enough support from the wide men. Our central 2 have not been strong enough to dominate and that has coincided with our wingers not being at the top of their games.

Hello lads.
I kno lots of people in here follow lots of other sites for transfer news. Our eds in here put hard work to keep us updated.
So out of all those. let's summeries our transfer targets.

So as I make it its: strootman, rodriguez, and lewandowaski. And only and only if rio or vida left then Garay.

Pls share your summery

Rodio17 {Ed004's Note - I reckon the same but would like to replace Lewandowski with Gotze and Baines as well}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Rodriguez will cost too much, hearing whispers we've pulled out because of the crazy prices being banded about. I don't think that much of him anyway.

Centre Backs we have right now:

Rio
Vida
Smalling
Evans
Jones

Keane looks good and might go on loan in the PL next season but if he stays he's certain to play some cup games.

I'm not sure how signing Garay makes sense?

We are clearly set for the near forseeable future in this department.

Believable11 Unbelievable1

I really hope keane Gets a loan in the EPL. Any thing less would be a missed opportunity in optimizing his route to the first team. I don't have any fear of him going on loan to a premiership team and not getting those all important games, from what I have seen.

BornInToIt

Agree1 Disagree0

R- Near the end of his career.
V- World class but has been very injury prone.
S- Not solid enough yet to start every match.
E- Useful but sometimes shakey.
J- Solid, could be better as a Cdm.

Having more solid defenders is never a bad thing. If you add more quality now, Uniteds' defense in three years will be unbelievable.

Agree3 Disagree15

Zanysteve,

Do you know the definition of injury prone? Vidic has had one bad injury and is fully on the recovery from it, I don't think that can be classed as injury prone to be honest mate.

Agree15 Disagree0

Zany, Evans useful but sometimes shaky? He's been tremendous for the last 12 months and I'd pick him for every game

Agree16 Disagree5

AJH - I could not agree more, Evans is an exceptional defender imo. If he was Spanish and played for Madrid or Barca he would be wanted by everybody and all our fans would be crying for us to sign him.

Hi ed's. Do you know anything on the Nani situation? Has a contract been offered? What are the issues? Who is likely to bid for him? Will he go? Thanks.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

The issues are he is wildly inconsistent and often behaves like a 2 year old. Occasional flashes of genius don't earn you a huge new contract. There is a contract on the table apparently, rumour has it Nani wants a bigger one. Don't know how true that is but he has had long enough to have made that position his own and unfortunately hasn't managed it.

Did anyone see an article last week? I think it was a web site. Basically they said that United were having a summer fire sale as we'd spent this summers budget on van persie, his wages and zaha. So to raise money we were selling Valencia, nani, Anderson, eva to raise eighty million euro's. Now I find it a bit unlikely but did others see the article?

Believable2 Unbelievable6

Yeah it was on ebay, you can buy them individually or in a bundle if you want to save on postage.

I didn't say I agreed with the article. I think it was a bit far fetched. Just asking if anyone else saw it. If I want sarcasm i'll have a conversation with my kids.

Agree11 Disagree0

The article was written by a Liverpool fan, a Merseyside based journalist called David Lynch. He tried saying that United were skint now we have RvP on £250k a week and us having to buy Zaha earlier than planned for £17m and we need to sell these players (Ando, Nani, Valencia etc) to raise funds for the summer.

What he heard was Nani, Anderson etc could be sold (which is true) and he put 2&2 together and got 16. He thought he could add his own little bit of anti-United spin to his info by saying we are selling them players due to us having no money and big debts. We will be selling most of the players he mentioned, but not because we are skint. We also know Zaha cost £10.3m.

Like it Danny, though to be fair, like the comeback from noname too :)

Lol Danny, made me chuckle, sarcastic or not

Although like everyone else I am a huge fan of a big spend, however I would not like to sign anyone whom would disrupte growth of any of our players in the short term hence this is how my summer would shape up;

Linderguard out, instead of signing begovic I would let DDG keep the number one spot and I highly rate him, I would then promote Amos to second choice and see how he does

would love to see jones starting at cb next season possibly partnering evans whos had a great season so far. I would still keep vidic and rio for another year and use them as bit part to offer experiance/guidance aswell as in big games. however if they where to leave garay zouma and papadopolous would be my targets aswell as gving keane wootton and thorpe cup games or loan time

everyone says we should buy baines and if he was 4 years younger i'd agree but the fact is he's 28 and wouldn't have to many years left. Personally I would send buttner on a season loan to wigan and allow him to play in there wingback set up as I think he'd thrive in that, I would then rotate fabio and evra in hope fabio could dislodge evra and imulate his brothers success

a deep lying midfeild is what we need and the most obvious one would be Strootman whom i'd partner with carrick in the centre of the park for a year then look to replace carrick the season after. However if Kroos was to become availabe when pep goes in as I read then I would love to see a real effort to bring him aswell. I think I would try give tunnicliffe some cup games and sub apperances to see if he could make the grade.

our wings haven't been as effective as in recent year with 0 goals and 4 assits from valencia and young combined. Nani looks set for an exit, young doesn't make the grade for me but i'd give toni another year to regain form. if possible would love to see young and nani out with rodriguez and zaha in aswell as welbeck been played more in that wide role as he did against madrid as I rate him much better there than I do up top. I would then give van velzen cup games or a loan within england in hope he could replace toni when he leaves.

attacking midfield i'm happy with atm with kagawa cleverly rooney can drop however if there was a chance to go all out on gotze then i'd do it as he's going to be a huge name. also with the likes of powell daehli and januzju coming through soonish I can see our formation changing from 2 deep 1 attacking mid into 1 deep 2 attacking mid within the next few years to accommodate the talent we have coming through.

up top everyone says lewandowski and as good as he is and most likely on his way I do not want it to happen. If welbeck was moved into the wide role as mentioned then that would leave us with RVP Rooney and Chica up front whom are all top class strikers and would all experience more game time if it where just the 3. I would then either give henriquez and keane cup games, sub apperiances or loans where theyd get games in order to get them ready for the day RVP and Rooney age out.

all in all I would purchase CB CM (or2) Winger and if avalible a CAM and promote Amos Vermijl as back up players and a tone more as cup and squad players

whilst having these players leave Linderguard, possibly vidic and rio, scholes, Anderson, Possibly fletcher, nani, young, bebe, macheda, and some other flops and thringe players.

Believable5 Unbelievable4

If DDG got injured, we could end up with major problems in goal

Agree1 Disagree2

Stringer, we could use Ando as a back up keeper. If he lies on the goal line, no one will be able to get a ball past him.

I think this summer the outs will be bigger than the ins. I don't mean in terms of money just that the people going will be surprising and a few big names. We have a lot of situations developing. Anderson should go and has spent the last few months looking for an exit. Nani also could go, apparently there are contract issues. I'm torn as he's inconsistent but when he gets a run he looks good. Rumours persist around Hernandez over playing time although I think it would be a mistake. Also he's played 28 times so its not like its hardly any game time. Then we have Rooney who's at that tricky two years left stage same as Nani. Does he stay or does he go? that's a different debate. I'm just saying there's some big names and personalities who could depart this summer. I think fergie realises the team needs freshening up and some players haven't worked out. And we can't stand still as city and chelsea under new managers will spend. Thoughts?

Question for the Eds, guys do you believe that this is going to be a busy summer for United in a buying/selling sense. I recon this summer could signal the end in one way or another for:
Anderson,
Rio,
Nani,
Toni,
Lindegard.

Your understanding would be welcome.
The only signing I believe to be highly likely Lewandowski.

PJ {Ed004's Note - I would potentially add Scholes, Fletcher, Rooney and Hernandez. That's why I can't see Evra being sold and a left back like Baines signed as that is a lot of experience}

Believable0 Unbelievable1

I really can't see all these mentioned players leave. I'll stick my neck out and say both Rooney and Valencia will still be here. Hernandez will only go if Lew comes in and I hope Rio gives us one more year (not convinced on this one yet though).

I expect one CM coming in maybe Strootman, possibly Lew up front then 1 or 2 more unexpected signings as well as Zaha.

That's about all I expect.

Agree3 Disagree0

I think that over the next two years we will have many many departures:

Lindegaard, Amos, Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra, Nani, Anderson, Scholes, Giggs, Bebe, Hernandez, Macheda.

It also could be the end of Fletcher if he can't get fit, Fabio or Buttner if they don't perform, Young or Valencia if they don't pick up their form - same with Rooney. Huge changes will be made so we have to make sure we get the balance of departures right.

We couldn't possibly get rid of Lindegaard, Amos, Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra, Nani, Anderson, Scholes, Giggs, Bebe, Hernandez, Macheda all this year. Too much experience would be let go. So, Lindegaard, Amos, Ferdinand, Nani, Anderson, Scholes, Bebe, Hernansez & Macheda will probably depart. That would mean that we still have Vidic, Evra & Giggs experience which would depart the year after.

24 hours to go and I'm excited and concerned at being away to Sunderland. I hope saf remembers what happened last season and puts on the best team we've got. We want to go there, win the match and then give the Sunderland crowd what they gave us last year. I honestly believe if Sunderland lose tomorrow then they are down.
Come on Saf, please turn out our strongest side and let's win the league.
And on the post below re neymar, he is beginning to remind me a bit of roubinho. I'm not sure he's going to be in the ronaldo/messi bracket, but he's still young.
Nomidfield
Nomidfield

Believable4 Unbelievable2

I would not play the strongest team. because of the Chelsea match just 48 hours later. We are in front with 15 points, we have a deep squad, and our second best should be capable of giving Sunderland a go.

Steffen

Agree5 Disagree6

My concern would be to see Scholes and Giggs start at Sunderland.

Yes we have two games this weekend but for me the important one is Sunderland. Winning the league is all important after last season.

It would be nice to win the cup but lose tomorrow and City know if they beat us it is 9 points and six games, which is not dissimilar to last seasons situation and that gives them hope. Therefore we must play the best team tomorrow.

Sunderland tomorrow is the same as last seasons Wigan game. I hope Ferguson learnt from that and sets us up accordingly. We must win to be 15 points clear when City come to OT a week on Monday

Agree3 Disagree4

I think we might be acting a little over-cautious here - and that's coming from someone who is cautious by nature!

I think we can take a defeat tomorrow, and still be in good shape for the remainder of the season, though even a second string should be good enough to beat a very poor Sunderland side.

We have to look at the bigger picture and cast sentiment about Sunderland aside - hard, I know, after they acted like a bunch of tools last season.

We have one crack at the FA Cup, and we need our strongest team for it. The league will take care of itself - some on here are assuming City will beat us at home, when we've handled ourselves admirably against all the top sides this season, home and away.

There's still more than enough points to be picked up between now and the end of the season, and even though we've thrown away leads before in the league, I can't remember us doing it two seasons in a row. {Ed004's Note - I reckon Rio, Vidic, Kagawa, Evra, Rafael (as they will target the wings again we need! wing backs fresh), Hernandez and RVP will all be rested. I'd probably go with De, Gea, Jones, Smalling, Evans, Buttner, Anderson, Giggs, Valencia, Young/Nani, Rooney, Welbeck for Sunderland. The Chelsea game De Gea, Rafael, Rio, Vidic, Evra, Carrick, Cleverley, Welbeck/Nani/Young (that order), Kagawa, RVP and Hernandez. Both in a 4231 formation}

Agree3 Disagree1

We have to prioritise the Chelsea game a bit IMO. We have the advantage of being 15 points clear whilst Chelsea are fighting for every point, so we need to make the most of that advantage. Luckily we have a huge squad and many players who have had a rest during the intl break so I'd expect to see many of them start v Sunderland.

Agree1 Disagree0

Ed, I really don't see us making 9+ changes between games! The usual players will play both: Evra, Rafael, Carrick, Rooney and more then likely I can see Rvp playing a part in both games whether its off the bench or starting.

Maybe Smalling for Rafael in the Sunderland game for his height as Sunderland's strengths are in the air. So for that same reason I can see Welbeck playing at Sunderland and Hernandez for the Chelsea game. Hernandez will give the Chelsea centre halves a hard time running in behind them with Luiz's lack of pace and Cahill's lack of positioning skill.

Agree0 Disagree1

I think the team Stevie K mentioned v Sunderland will be strong enough, I hope he does put a strong bench on though just in case!
The game against Chelsea is a different thing, I think we missed the boat at OT, chelsea will be fired up for this and I hope I'm wrong, but I can't see us winning that one. but I'm always wrong so that's a good omen!

Few questions hear guys,
1) with the recent Garay rumours have we lost intrest in hummels. I remember us being strongly liked with him in the past. Much better than Garay IMO.
2) do you still believe Rooney will be hear next season? I think he will but we know SAF if you cross him your usually gone.
3) Do you think Ronaldo will come back because I think being as logical as I can the signs point that way, he openly states he loves the club and SAF. Also with the talk of our sponsors helping in the deal we'd have money left over to pursue other targets.
4) who all do we think will be sold? I think Nani, Anderson, Young, Hernandez (unfortunately. I just don't think you can keep a world class striker like him happy on the bench).
5) does anybody think we may see a few youngsters getting a chance next season. I think we may see tunnicliffe, The keanes, Blackett and januzaj involved in the cups with Powell and henriquez used more often in the league.
I look forward to your responses.

Caoln.

Believable0 Unbelievable1

Garay rumours might be truee. There is certainly a lot of interest in defenders at the moment.

Rooney I think will be gone to be perfectly honest with you unless he is being moved into midfield, But what I think is as soon as he was not in the starting 11 against real madrid. I think time is up for him and he will either take a pay cut or get sold. I am sure he wouldn't like a pay cut hence why I think he's gone.

Ronaldo I see coming back unless we aren't interested in. IF we have the slightest interest I see ronaldo coming back asap.

I think the usual suspects are going to be sold, Ferdinand, Anderson, nani, scholes and fletcher to retire. and maybe hernandes gone if lewandowski sighned.

Next year we will see few yungsters integrating within the team to give them more experience.

Singh

Agree0 Disagree0

1) Garay rumours do seem to have a bit of momentum. I think we will sign him. But like yourself, Hummels would be my preference.

2) Rooney will absolutely still be here next season and probably until the end of his career. He has stated on many ocassions now that he wants to beat SBC goalscoring record. Just leave the guy to get on with it. He is still our most important player.

3) I would love a Ronaldo homecoming but can't see it. It would simply cost too much money.

4) I think Anderson, Macheda, and possibly Young or Valencia depending on who we bring in. As for Hernandez again it depends if we sign anyone. If we could sell him and bring in Lewandowski I would do that. Hernandez world class? That's a laughable statement. Good finished and an impact player, but apart from that he offers very little.

5) Ryan Tunnicliffe and Michael Keane will play more games next season I think. Will Keane has had many injuries so might go out on loan. Januzaj is only 18, and although a promising player, he is not ready physically. Nick Powell will go out on loan imo.

s20c

Agree2 Disagree2

Agree Hernandez is no where near world class. A great finisher but has a poor first touch & doesn't really beat a man. Tunnicliffe is no where near utd standard. He is championship at best, & that comes from inside old trafford. We only have to wait 8 or 9 years to see the next Ronaldo, my son. He's in the under 9's at utd. Well heres hoping anyway
Blackpool Red

Agree6 Disagree5

1) I think Hummels may be Barca bound. I'd prefer we keep Rio for 1 more year and give chances to Evans, Smalling & Jones so I'm hoping we don't need to spalsh out on Garay TBH.
2) It's a big summer for Rooney's future but I think he will stay.
3) I think Ronaldo may play for United again but not next season. I'd say summer 2014 is the earliest we could hope to get him as he'd cost too much right now.
4) I expect Nani and Anderson to be sold with Scholes and possibly Fletcher to retire. I think Hernandez may leave but only if Lewandowski is signed. Other than that just fringe players and youth players like Bebe, Macheda, Wooton?
5) I think most will go out on loan again. I hope Powell and Zaha are given chances in our 1st team.

Agree1 Disagree1

Garay will sign but he's nowhere near as good as hummels, another second rate signing.
Rooney will stay and continue turning up overweight and have a crap first touch and no pace.
Hope Anderson, Valencia are sold.
If Hernandez is sold, we'll regret it, bad first touch I read? Who have u been watching? Have u seen Rooney's and welbeck's first touch? It is non existent. Lewi is not the player you're all making him to be.
Michael Keane could play, tunicliffe is not united standard. Hope Powell gets some starts.
