Another convincing performance from our youngsters so far tonight. For anyone who isnt watching, we are 4-1 and in the final stages. Home tie against Charlton or Spurs in the quarter final.

Throughout the course of this season and the last one we have had a very injury plagued defence. The right back problem is a main concern. I love Rafael and think he could be world class but his injury seem to stop him progressing ATM. So if he can not be relied upon and being stretched enough at the back enough most seasons is there any other really good right back we could buy that would be good enough for a club of our size. The only right back I have seen of late to impress me is Micah Richards but he is a no go, can anyone think of any other right backs that would be good enough, walker? Anyone. I just can't think of any top notch right backs

Hi ED just wanted to know.
If the russian transfer window is still open could they do a swap deal with a premier league team? This means an epl team still getting a player outside the transfer window?

TRUMORS {Ed001's Note - no, they can bring players in, but English teams in the Premier Leagues can't. They could agree to sign the player in the next transfer window though.}

One for the ed's and anyone else who may know.

Whats the current situation around Daniel Di Rossi

Last i heard Roma were offering a renewal but he hadn't accepted.

Just that with him becoming a free agent in the summer think we should try our hand at him. He's a massive player with unquestioned ability.

It's not a marquee signing in the traditional sense (blowing a load of cash) but what a massive coup it would be to end up with this guy on the books?

Monk {Ed001's Note - still no contract accepted and so he could well be available in the summer.}

I was disappointed with the lack of activity in January, but the more I look at us from an outside perspective the more content I am with United at the moment. Before people jump down my throat with the lists of problems that get discussed everyday on here, I'd just like to point out why.

Firstly, NOBODY spent big in January, and this is no coincidence. The fact of the matter is that the top players were not available. I was openly critical of Paul Scholes coming out of retirement, but now I think it could turn out a masterstroke. We've all seen how well he is still keeping possession for us and making us tick. What if Fergie has confidence in the youth players coming through? I know they haven't been playing as much as we'd all like, but maybe they're not quite ready, which is why Scholes has been brought in to help fill a gap and ease Pogba into the first team?
If him and Zeki are integrated under the radar this season and then are ready to have a full pre-season, then next year we could see a team with good depth in all positions (with maybe one or two additions in the summer):

________De Gea/ Lindegaard

_Rafeal/ Clyne__Rio/ Smalling_Vidic/ Jones__Fabio/ Zeki

Valencia/ Nani_Modric/ Carrick_Cleverly/ Pogba__Nani/ Young

_____Rooney/ Welbeck__Hernandez/ Will keane

Whilst then integrating perhaps, Brady, Petrucci, Vaseli, M. Keane?

I've only used those signings as examples to show we don't need a lot IMO. Even taking Clyne and Modric out of that it's not looking too bad.

So, all we have to endure is this transitional period, where might I point out, we are in an identical position to City, having spent a considerably lower sum of money, are coping with our extensive injuries, with a much better youth set up and with a manger that has installed a winning mentality that could even nick us the league during a transition.

Just trying, as always, to inject some positivity into our lives.

Well thank god Morrison has gone! he was a tool! lets forget about the muppet! I doubt he will ever realise his true potential due to the fact he is a prat!

On a positive note. Like has been said I thought Pogba was fantastic against stoke and I have seen what fergie said about him and trying to sort out a new contract. I reckon if we can get him signed up and he has a decent pre season i dont think we will need to do an aweful lot of business come the summer as we will have saved ourselves £20 million tying him down long term and I dont think a CM will be on the shopping list. I mean if we have Pogba, Cleverley, Carrick and Anderson and POSSIBLY Fletcher to come back. Who would you buy and where would you play them?

I think the talk that Fergie has been sniffing out a new Forward are spot on and personally I have always been a fan of Stevan Jovetic and I reckon if Berba and Owen leave as expected come summer he would fit in well with the mobile front line we seem to be adopting these days. I also think we need a defender and I think we could do a lot worse than one of the Belgium lads at Ajax Toby Alderweireld or Jan Vertonghen.

So who would be on your wish list for the summer?

I think we need to play Pogba against chelsea. i know it will be a big test especially at the bridge, but i have been watching him in the reserves for a while and his cameo at stoke just shows hes got the physique, tempermant and skill to play in the first team.
giggs will probably most likely start, but i dont think his legs will be up for it, thats why pogba is needed. I think he will have the beating of lampard, essien and merieles, mata is probably the main threat, but i reckon torres is due a good game.
Also how good is darron gibson, could he be the answer to our midfield problem, Fergy sign him up! He's done more for United at evreton than he did do in a red shirt.

i realise this will be a controversial and unpopular view but i think the worst thing that can happen is us winning the league.

Trophies will gloss over the problems a little and may result in them going unsolved a little longer. Whereas losing might push us into getting them sorted. It might get the hunger back which has been missing a little in some players. And it puts all the pressure next season on city and was we know a title defence is always harder.

Also i'd have to see what jose could do with city whereas at times mancini can be an asset.

Hi all, just want to know what people's thoughts are when SAF retire's. After what happened last time when giving the time of his departure, I feel that SAF will leave before he says he will. If im right in thinking he has come out and said at around the beginning of the season he will go in (i think) either 3 or a few years.
I think he will go end of this season or next.
I think the most genuine man to take over who has the confidence is Mourinho. Alot of people will prefer Guardiola and there is a possibility because of his 1 year rolling contracts (that he insists on).
Alot of people wont like the idea of Mourinho coming beacause of his style but our club is more about results (which he achieves) followed closely by style & ethic.
He has come out and said he wants to reurn to the premiership and be with his next club for a long time. It all points to our Hot seat, firmed up by the fact that it;s becoming vague how long he will remain in Madrid.
I also think that contrary to what he says SAF won't be able to cut his ties completely and will become a figure similar to Charlton for us in an ambassador role.
Once Mourinho has been at the club for a while and managed the challenge of continuity in results then we will may see the like's of hopefully Solskjaer, Giggs, Scholes or any other ex player for that matter in the long term.
Just my thoughts.

By the way for whats it's worth if anybody remembered I posted beginning of the window that Jelavic was of to Everton. (From the same source: we are still in for Modric. Modric has said that if a big club came in for him he had an agreement. It doesnt necessarily mean he has to stay in London. He is settled in London. Thats all.
At the moment everything depends on wether Tottenham get CL football. If a player was'nt interested in coming to us then he would'nt meet our reps at least 5/6 times)

for me if valencia young and nani are fit i would play young on the left, which would mean it would be between nani and valencia for the RW.
when both players are on top of there game i would choose valencia , i think he is more direct effective and better at defending.
i really like nani i think he is a top player but maybe it is time to shake up the first 11, how would people feel if we sold nani and bought hazard

Anyone know if this is the case or is it a story selling story?

Well all that January nonsense is over so I am back.

Right where are we, left in 2 comps, dumped out of 3 (albeit very unfortunately at Anfield)

The League- Still think we blew it against Blackburn on New Years Eve and I stick by that. We all knew they would capitulate in January and they have, but are still top. However it could have been a lot worse going to the Bridge on Sunday. They will beat Fulham on Saturday evening and we could have been 6 pts behind come kick off time. But like I say we blew it New Years Eve. Think we will pip the Spuds to second.

Europa League- Tough Fixture against Ajax, they will want to beat us in a high profile tie. I think we should go hell for leather with this one. Joe Hart admitted all City's eggs are in one basket this year. This would be a lovely trophy to win the only one SAF hasn't won and remember how elated we were in 1991 in Rotterdam.

As for the transfer window, is it me or is this FFP the real deal. City tripping over themselves to get rid of deadwood and not really getting rid of much. Who will pay the wages they are getting at City. Contracts are Contracts. They knew Tevez wanted the same kind of move as Adebayor's but they were stubborn and wouldn't give him the pleasure.

Don't think United needed to buy anyway, if we get 4 injured players back it will be like 4 new signings

Going to be an interesting 4 months either way. Europa League would be great. 20th title would be orgasmic

Food for thought, I for one am glad we haven't bought any one this January. However that doesn't go to say i think we don't need someone. Come the summer i think there will be a small cull, and minor changes. People are quick to forget that we have recently bought in quite a few players i.e.; Young, Jones and Hernandez. In my opinion, (It may not be regarded as a worthy one, but I'm an intelligent realist) there is no value in the market at the minute. Unless you have ridiculous amounts of money and no soul, history or heart like Chelsea and Man City, and can afford to pay £200,000 plus to each player week in week out. Even the soulless cash happy clubs haven't bought big, proof enough. Names like Gaitan, Hazard and Gotze have been tossed here and there but are they really worth that much money?! Maybe to Manchester City and Chelsea, but Manchester united are the polar opposite in every way shape and form. A player needs to earn the right to play for the club. Not just have a head value of £20-£30 Million. It's relativity, Clubs like Real, Man City and Chelsea have sodomised football and devalued everything that Manchester United stand for, people compare our spending to them because we are a big/bigger club. But in no way are we or have we ever been similar morally. Thougths?

Sir alex rarely has a solid first 11. He basically just picks whoever is in good form at that moment. The only player who is guaranteed a position in the starting 11 regardless of form, is rooney.
Look back to the first few months of last season, berba was in such fantastic form that united were willing to extend his contract and give him a pay rise and let him spend the rest of his career at united. A few months later, everything had changed, due to the form of chicha and a resurrgent wayne rooney, berba was benched for the remainder of the season and couldnt even make the bench for the CL final. Something similar happened to nani after valencia had recovered from his injury.
Now fast foward to this season, how many of you would have predicted that havier hernandez( who some of you were calling world class, some even saying he was worth higuain and benzema plus cash. Lol) would fall behind the pecking order to danny welbeck( who has been in terrific form)?.
How many of you thought valencia would fall out of favour and start playing in the carling cup with the other fringe players? And now he is back in the starting 11 again.
But happens when nani and young recover from their injuries and get back to the form they were in at the start of the season? Its always going to be nani ahead of valencia in my books.
Firing his agent was a good gesture towards the club and fans, but was it an intelligent decision on valencia's part? Well, only time will tell.
