Right as it is clear to see we need to sign 2 midfielders. A defensive minded one and an attacking minded one. I would sign Martinez and Goetze. A 3 man midfield with Rooney who would be playing in the hole would be brilliant IMO.
What two players would you lot sign?
The Red Manc {Ed007's Note - Goetze and James McCarthy (sorry guys)}

if tonight was not bad enough Park is set to start v Sunderland ......

When asked if Wayne's midfield role was just a short-term measure, the manager affirmed: "Yes, I think so. We're just trying to organise our midfield a little bit. We've had injuries in that department. Michael Carrick's still injured, Tom Cleverley's still injured and we're spacing out Darren Fletcher's games. We can play Ji-sung Park in there but Ji's got an important role for us [against Sunderland] on Saturday."

seriously...... bring the young lads in now..... or make sure the cheque book is ready for jan... as this current group will not be good enough to win the pl or cl.....

oxred {Ed001's Note - Carrick's injured? He isn't listed as injured, I really wish United would be more open about stuff like that! They make is such hard work to know what is happening at the club. I guess it is better for them to keep the opposition guessing though.}

After today's performances I wonder is there any difference between Anderson and Kleberson? I'd rather resign Possebon as he's doing very well at Santos or give Pogba chance to prove himself.
Ed, any reason as to why Carrick isn't playing?

Just caught up with Colin Blaney's book "Grafters".
I know it's been out ages, but I kept meaning to get it.
Anyway, good read.
Is he still going strong ?
Hope so.

We need a specialist defensive midfielder, and a specialist attacking midfielder. Tonight was an absolute f*cking shambles in midfield against one of the worst teams ever to take part in the CL. We had absolutely no control in the game at all. Anderson, like Carrick and Fletcher are just bodies in the midfield. Somebody tell me, what is their specialist role? Are they defensive or attacking players? Our midfield keeps changing, but other than Cleverley, they provide no specific task within the team. They are all rounders that are just not good enough. Tonight we played against average Championship standard opposition.

Rooney was a fish out of water in a deep midfield role, Valencia and Nani created nothing, Hernandez and Berba wandered about without any purpose or direction.

The absence of the skill and creativity of Scholes and Giggs was for all to see tonight, and we hav'nt the drive of Keane. They have absolutely not been replaced.

We are supposed to be closer to Barca, absolute b****cks!

Disagree with this if you will, but this was complete and utter sh*te!

Dear Mr RedDevil, 'Come back when you can create a team, instead of buy'? You mean like Arsenal, don't you?

De Gea (18-20 mill)
Ferdinand (30+ mill)
Anderson (19 mill) lol
Shrek (29 mill)
Berbanob (32 mill) lol
Nani (17 mill)
Valencia (17 mill)
Jones (16 mill)
Hernandez (7 mill)

These players all started tonight (except Hernandez), my advice to you mate is 'Come back when you can create a team, not buy'

My main frustration tonight BY FAR was that Pogba didn't get a chance to play. I think overall no-one did anything particularly wrong, and I wasn't ever worried about not winning the game. Alright I would have rather we spanked them but on current form I'm happily taking the vital win. I just think that our back up CM isn't good enough. When Clevs and Ando are fit we've all seen what they can do at the start of the season, but when they're not, we haven't got the players who can step in. I would just like Pogba and Morrison and even Tunnicliffe to have to chance to prove they can step in. But with the Basle draw, tonights performance, etc. we've squandered all the chances to give THEM a chance.

We must get whatever we can for Berbatov in Jan. He destroys our play by slowing things down constantly and has no interest in anything but himself, his attitude stinks and I believe the money could be spent towards buying a CM

You have just told us how we have a crap team/squad.If that is the case why did your beloved Liverpool fail to beat our crap team at Anfield(which being at home was a huge advantage to you),why are we higher in the league than you?

So lets be honest if we are a crap team Liverpool must be even worse judging by the season so far,so if you are taking pleasure in how bad we are perhaps you should take a long look at your own team and then start to worry as Liverpool are a long way behind United as you will see at the end of the season.

On a different note what was the score in the Liverpool game tonight?

I think the fact that Rooney got a goal from his first start as a midfielder goes to show just how bad Carrick and Anderson actually are, and Alex has obviously copped what we have all been saying since July, still dissappointed we didnt beat that pub team by a lot more goals at home but I think we might have the answer to all our midfield problems in Rooney, what do you think?

first half - jones has been immense, fabio has made some brilliant runs, rooney spraying passes all over the pitch. again valencia playing well, good to see him coming back to his old self. shame about owen would of loved him to get a goal or two. with the possession we have its just a matter of time before we add more goals to the scoreline. centre backs are looking more comfortable tonight aswell. especially rio. chicharito looking sharp also. cant complain so far.

Rooney, Berbatov and Owen all start tonight. I said in the summer and really believe Rooney could be the answer to our CM problem! Get a DM in as they will be cheaper to get then an attacking CM and then a striker to play with Hernandez such as Benzema, Higuain (if neymar joins them) or the other young Mexican lad I hear alot of Torres?

Thoughts?

Good line up for today. Will be very attacking with 3 strikers and two attackive wingers. Really hope Fryers and Pogba get a game. I wonder if SAF is trying Rooney as a dedicated midfielder to give some more spark there with a view to playing-

Nani Anderson Rooney Young
Welbeck Hernandez

as the first team midfield and attack with Cleverly also playing in there.

Anyone else disappointed to see Evans in the team again? Smalling's injury and Vida's suspension haven't helped matters, but I wonder if SAF is giving Evans a run of games before deciding whether or not to add another CB to the squad in January? Gary Cahill wouldn't cost much more than £5m.

Pogba on bench, we need to get a couple goals up by halftime. Then perhaps Owen or Berbatov will come off with Rooney moving upfront and Pogba going into the centre. We could really do with a 2-3 goal cushion mind.

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96

Ps. I'll give you Mertsacker, he's crap
----------------------------------
I forgot about King. He's too injury prone. But, yes that is what I am saying. Never rated Agger, Kelly is a right back and very injury prone, Coates is young, Kompany is good, Richards is a right back, Lescott LOL, Terry past it, Luiz is rash, Alex is OK, Samba is big that's it, Dawson ain't great, Cahill is OK. Mertesacker is the worst defender I have ever seen. When he runs it looks like he is going to fall over.

Ed002 you're a Chelsea fan. Whilst I understand you have to be careful about these things I was wondering what the story was with the chanting last night. I didnt watch the game, I have only seen the sensationalized headlines. Were the Chelsea fans chanting about Ferdinand or was it more the case that they were chanting their support for Terry? I only ask as it would be all too easy to start condemning them before I know what actually happened.

TK-Red {Ed002's Note - I am sorry but I have absolutely no idea about chanting at football grounds at all. I did not see the game but am aware there were some issues.}

Is there anyway you can create a new page where the immature bickering between our regular posters and the bored Liverpool fans to go and jibe at each other in private?

I am sick of coming on here and scrolling down 2/3 of the page looking for actual Man Utd banter - and Im talking lineups for the night's game, future prospective signings etc, not 'who is better Rooney or Suarez' or whose dad is less of a loser.

'Sydney!'

"I am making it clear to plums like yourself that Suarez is not the best striker in the EPL"

Please show me which one of my posts I claimed that Suarez is the best striker in the EPL. I have said that in my opinion Suarez is better than Rooney. You have then been trying to drag statistics out to prove that Rooney is the better player while I have consistently said that statistics do not prove everything and I have proven this by giving you last years stat's that show Rooney to be worse than Odemwengie and DJ Campbell. Is this true? Of course it isn't.

I have used your very own reasoning to prove that United's mid-field is 'statistically' worse than some very ordinary premier league players but you say I can't use stat's for mid-fielders. I have then used stat's to prove that Odemnwengie and Campbell are better than Rooney but you now say we should use stat's from when Rooney is in form. You make up the rules as you go along to suit your opinion and , surely this just reinforces my belief that stat's do not prove everything?

"If both players are playing well and the other player has a much better scoring & assisting rate than the other, then you have to consider that he is the better player"

Really? And who is going to be the judge of whether a player is in form? Against Norwich Suarez had about 11-shots on goal and didn't score so can I claim that he was out of form that game?

The truth is there is never going to be answer to who is the best player, unfortunately this game is all about opinions and just because my opinion, and those of other people, doesn't reflect yours you feel the need to continually change the rules of the discussion.

United have probably out-scored Liverpool in most seasons since the beginning of the premier league, last year United scored 19-more goals than Liverpool. So if Rooney scores more goals than Suarez this year does it make him the better player or does it just mean that United create more chances for their stickers? Is scoring three hat-tricks in 10-games in comfortable wins less important than scoring 1-goal in 9-games in a row that result in 1-0 victories? These are things that goal scoring and assists do not take into account. The only way to include these factors in would be to come up with some kind of 'Duckwoth/Lewis' scoring system and even then I am sure the person who lost would find a way to defend their player with statistics.

Hopefully we can now put his subject to bed, it has been fun ; )

What I think we need are very different to what we probably get. If we could do the following I would be a happy camper.

In
Hazard - New no 7
Either M'Villa or Eriksen
We need two defenders I dont think we should have sold O'Shea. Okay he wasnt the best player in the world but he was a grafter and he gave 100 and 10% every game I cant think of anyone else!

De Gea
Rafael/Smalling/Jones--Ferdinand/Evans--Vidic--Evra

Hart
Richards--Kompany--Lescott--Clichy

I would take Hart, Richards, Kompany, Vidic and Clichy

Cech
Bosingwa--Luiz--Terry--A.Cole

I would take Cech, United RB, Terry, Vidic and A.Cole

Reina
Kelly--Carragher--Agger--Enrique

I would take Reina, Kelly, Agger, Vidic and Enrique

Friedel
Walker--Dawson--King--Assou-Ekotto

I would take Friedel, United RB, King, Vidic and Evra

Szczesny
Sagna--Mertesacker--Vermaelen--Santos

I would take De Gea, Sagna, Vermaelen, Vidic and Santos

United have one player in their defence who could make every team in the country and probably the world, but bar Vidic and Smalling/Jones(in about 2-3 years) there isn't much to brag about so much for the 'best defence in the league'.

Jatt YNWA
-------------------------------
Jatt, you idiot. Jones and Smalling are centre backs, not right backs and you have put then in that position to strengthen your argument. Jones, Vidic and Smalling are better than any defenders at Liverpool, Man Citeh and Chelsea. Vermaelen is the only other defender in the Premier League that can compare. Enrique is the only player in your entire defence that I would take. Martin Kelly, while talented, is very prone to injury.

With regards to this stupid and pointless argument over Rooney/Suarez. I've already said that Suarez misses far too many chances for a forward. Yes, he's very good, but Rooney is a better all round player. Silva, Aguero, RVP, Rooney and Yaya Toure are all better players than Suarez IMO. Torres too when on form. So, your argument is rather fruitless, so just give up.
