Nice read Ed, just wondered what your thoughts were on Maddison for Leicester? Woeful at marking, but thought he looked exciting in the final third.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I like him a lot, but he should not even be back there defending in the first place, he should be on the edge of the box or upfield to force Liverpool to hold players back on set pieces. I hate teams bringing every man back, they end up just getting in each other's way and no one gets to attack the ball cleanly. Maddison is one of the best attacking midfielders around based on his play last season. He stood out like a sore thumb in the Championship. The problem he had there was he was too good and clever for his team-mates. That should not be a problem at Leicester once they get to know him.}

03 Sep 2018 06:23:40
Cheers Ed, appreciate your thoughts.

{Ed001's Note - welcome mate, I think Leicester picked up a bargain there.}

Thought we was brilliant today, thought everyone played well and as a team could of scored 7.We was creative and quick and beat a team who have proved tough to beat in recent seasons quite easily today.

United played the best I've seen in quite a few seasons I was that impressed.

Totally agree played well against them too but as a whole today we looked solid never really looked liked conceding. Maybe it's carrick and mckenna's influence in training starting to come to fruition.

Agree1 Disagree1

02 Sep 2018 22:51:33
Everyone did their job, some better than others but the 5 pads at the back looked comfortable all game. The midfield got stuck in and did their part. The forwards linked up and created chances.

All in all it was very good performance. The doomsday lads will say "it was only Burnley" but we dominated like we should.

The reaction from the bench when the second goal went in was great to see. Maybe those morons can fly a plane every game, it's a good luck charm!

3 points I loved about our performance today:
1) Big Wig: thought he played really well and you could see the confidence shift in the CBs with him there. Magic looked better too as did Pogba (except pen miss) .
2) Clean sheet
3) The banner: I’ve said it multiple times before but the problem as I see it is not José and I find it encouraging that for once blame is being directed at someone else other thN the manager. Not to mention, the blame IMO is accurately angled on this occasion.

I enjoyed the game yesterday and agree with the points raised about the match, I just don't see how a stupid banner will do any good, it just gives the press another bullet to fire at Mourinho. It is pathetic IMO.

The passion and love from the fans has been incredible and honestly more than I thought Jose deserved. But could this spell finally make him realise how lucky he is to be managing a club with such loyal fans? I hope so and the signs are there that maybe he is starting to appreciate, and even enjoy the job.

Agreed. Was great to see. Jose went with what he knows and hey presto, comfortable win.

Still cannot believe the morons went ahead and hired the plane and banner. If anybody on here was part of it, I’d love to hear your reasons and rationale behind it and why you thought it would help us in our current position?

How very quiet the chat was too.

It was a very good performance against a team who have been historically difficult to beat especially away from home.

Fellaini typically justified joses decision to play him and show how good a player he actually is.

Onwards and upwards from here.

Played well today, players looked sharp and good in moments. That said I think people need to realise this isn't the Burnley of last season before thinking we have turned a corner. Burnley this season look like relegation material so far.

You have to beat the team in front of you and we did. Lukaku needs to sharpen his finishing for me, I didn't like seeing the land of the plodding giants in midfield, but it worked today. Plenty of times the managers tactics haven't worked so let's not forget that, Fellaini shouldn't be starting ahead of a new £60m signing for me, with the manager bitching about not being backed.

Agree11 Disagree12

02 Sep 2018 20:07:03
Oh beast. It's a squad game. Fred has started he first 3 and fellaini played today. Should the manager not be able to do that, surely that's the reason we have a squad.

I'd imagine you said Burnley were relegation fodder when they came up too.

Reality is, tough team, well organised and an even tougher ask when they play at home.

We could have had a few more goals today. Last 2 games we have created a lot of chances, very positive.

Fellaini doesn't get the credit he deserves. Very capable player who on is day is an absolute nightmare.

Agree9 Disagree8

02 Sep 2018 20:44:57
I'll get absolute pelters for this but I actually think Fellaini can be very effective as part of a midfield 3.

He's a tough physical presence and when he's allowed to get forward and make runs into the box he's very hard to handle. When he's allowed to make runs into the box he provides us with a an effective option in addition to Lukaku. If we can get good delivery he becomes a nightmare for defenders to handle especially when he pulls onto the back post and isolates the full back. He's also very effective against teams that like to press as we can hit the ball into midfield from goal kicks where he invariably wins flick ons or he's able to bring the ball down on his chest and we can start attacks higher up the pitch.

Fellaini is poor when he's asked to play a deep lying defensive role. He's not good enough on the ball or quick enough to cover the ground and the game often passes him by. Used correctly he's a very good player although I accept the purists will never accept this.

I've been impressed with Fred but I'm not quite sure what kind of player he is yet or his best role. It's a squad game and no doubt he'll be suited to other games and I expect him to make a impact this season.

A good 3 points which it should be against Burnley.
Watford put 3 past them and Fulham 4 past them,
Now I'm happy with the 3 points but we still have a lot to prove
The next penalty we get should be given to Sanchez
And as for that banner that flew over today, what a joke.

Leahy, had the chances been taken and penalty scored we would have been a lot more than 2 up.

No probs Nou, it wasn't aimed at any individuals anyway - and certainly not you! Thought we played really well today, and the interesting thing for me is that we didn't really play too much differently to our previous games. There were changes in defence of course, and Fellini in for Fred, but for me taking our chances first behalf made a huge difference and confidence grew - even after going down to 10 men.
It's a shame we didn't take our early chances in the previous two games as I think things would have been very different and we could have avoided the circus that has been the last 2 weeks.

Betty don't even bother with AAA. Three games in before today, the season was already over and top 4 was very close to being gone. 3 games gone! 😂😂

One of the rare occasions I didn't see the game as I was at work.

Just watched MOTD 2 and Fellaini played just in front of the CB's in a deep midfield role and apparently played very well in complete contrast to my above post. Just goes to show I know absolutely nothing and I should watch before assuming anything.

Can only think Jose was expecting Burnley to play long and direct and deployed Fellaini as a shield in front of the CB's to help combat their aerial threat and physicality. Told you all Fellaini is a great defensive midfielder 😂! (Having said I'm not convinced it would work against a team with great pace and movement) . Got the job done today though and I stand by what I said. He's certainly a useful squad player.

Betty, it was the original post that mentioned that not a lot of people have come on to congratulate the team.
I always want us to win and will always congratulate the team. But this was Burnley, who have been playing absolute trash so far thos season. So maybe that's why people weren't rushing to congratulate the team on this victory.
Its 3 points and we move on to the next match. Watford away, if we get a result there, then I'll be the first to come on and congratulate the team.

I was worried before the game but Jose picked a good team and Fellani played very well, the introduction of an attacking RB (Dialot) that can cross a ball after the international break will be a real positive. It was great to see we didn't just sit back when Rashford was sent off, we still could have scored more. On Rashford, l would fine him 3 weeks wages for stupidity.

I'm glad the manager has learnt he is managing Man Utd, not some underdog. Wait, no he picks Fellaini to combat the aerial threat of Burnley!

What about taking the game to Burnley and making them adapt to us?

He may score and be immense today, but frankly this type of negative, defensive first tactic sums up why he is not right for the club. What a joke, and no wonder the board didn't back him still further than they already have - dropping our big money signing for a guy that couldn't get a deal after hawking himself around the minnows of Europe.

One consolation if we do draw/ lose today will be we are rid of the 'negative one'.

He did well, but if we had taken the game to them rather than playing with three plodders in midfield it could and should have been 5 or 6-0 today. Goal difference is important, we know better than anybody.

Many a time this negative tactic hasn't worked, but we did enough today.

Yeah okay beast. Burnley have been beaten 5-0 plenty of times haven't they?

Agree3 Disagree1

02 Sep 2018 18:04:11
Fellaini was excellent today, its could have won 7-0 if they took their chances. Burnley couldn't get out precisely because Mourinho played matic and Fellaini in front of smalling and Lindelof. Their out ball to Woods was totally nullified.

The payoff was fullbacks pushed much further forward. Shaw caused problems all game. Can't wait for Dalot to push Tony V out of the team.

The attitude of the whole team was much better. Far more committment of players into their box. We worked hard and deserved to win.

Rom must be more clinical and Pogba more influential for us to mount any type of title challenge.

Agree7 Disagree0

02 Sep 2018 18:18:44
Beast, you couldn't even wait until the match was over before you spouted your negative nonsense. I hate to break it to you pal, but Jose has forgotten more about football than you'll ever know.

We were in complete control of that game for 90 minutes. Despite the best efforts of an incredibly poor referee, we went to Turf Moor and dominated, a notoriously difficult place to play. We defended well, the midfield played well, especially Fellaini. We created a lot of chances and on another day that's a 5-0 result.

The away fans were amazing as always. The manager and the players deserve credit for the result today. A lot of pressure from fans and media who would love to see us crash and burn but we coped with that pressure today and that result is just the tonic we needed before the international break.

No need to hit the doomsday whistle just yet.

Agree8 Disagree0

02 Sep 2018 18:38:37
Ridiculous to have a pop at Fellaini before the game even starts.

Not a fan of him myself but he played well at the World Cup and gives teams something else to think about.

From the last performance and result it’s not as if you can say that no one could be dropped.

Good solid performance. Hope Rashford is fined and disciplined by the club for his actions as in another match that could of cost us. At 2-0 up players should be ensuring that all the pressure remains on the opposition.

Annoying Pogba had his penalty saved. Don’t like his run up it makes me nervous!

Agree1 Disagree0

02 Sep 2018 18:58:02
Ken I just find this type of post unbearable to read. We all know Beast's views, some I agree with, some I don't. But to slate a player and the manager before the match has even kicked off, in the hope it all goes pear shaped so he could say "I told you so" is so annoying.

If we lose or draw then he is well within hi's rights to have a pop, but to do it before the game quite frankly is disgraceful.

How often have Fulham beat them 4-2 and how many times have Burnley struggled with Europe and Sundays? They aren't the same animal as last year.

We won today comfortably, so it's easy for you all to spout off.

However my point is true, we drop a £60m signing for a defensive player to combat the threat of Burnley - we won, should have won by more. I think we would have won by a lot more had we played more offensive mobile midfielders personally.

I’m not a United fan but just thought I would say, Burnley will finish in the bottom 5 or 6 this year. Already struggling badly with having to cope with European football. Beast. I understand your point completely. We should've put 5 past Burnley. Lesser teams have put plenty past them this season. Its a win, but if we can't beat Burnley comfortably, then God help us. I can't believe the near hysteria over beating a second rate team that is going to get plenty of hammerings this season.
Ps. Any of the optimistics care to tell us how Spurs did against Watford today? No? Thought so.

Agree0 Disagree2

02 Sep 2018 23:19:31
Mancman, the simple fact is, we're not one of Europe's top clubs just now, so we take what we can. He's a Belgian international, always gives his best, never seems to feel sorry for himself with all the abuse he gets, and most importantly he gives us another option. I've said before, if a few other players in the team showed the same desire and intensity as Fellaini, we might not be where we are just now. Other teams don't like playing against him. We certainly didn't when he played for Everton.

Agree1 Disagree0

02 Sep 2018 23:43:45
United had plenty of midfielders that were in and around that united 'squad' with scholes and Keane. Some of which some would say should not have been around that squad. But they were and very much contributed to the cause.

It's very disrespectful to a footballer as good as fellaini to claim he should be nowhere near the team. You must have a short memory, I'm pretty sure I and others can name at least 5 players that were in and around that time.

You just have a personal dislike for fellaini.

City and Liverpool have many players I wouldn't have had in United's squad. Delph, shaqiri, wijnaldum, Henderson and others.

However they are there and all contribute. Again, very disrespectful to a very good player in fellaini.

Noucamp, we are not one of Europe's top clubs? Sorry, but I have to take issue with that. I agree that Fellaini shows heart and desire but he simply lacks the necessary quality. Yes, he gets a game for Belgium, but Martinez is hardly a managerial genius.

Agree1 Disagree0

03 Sep 2018 13:25:22
Noucamp, the reason we are not playing like one of Europe's top clubs is that we have players like Fellaini in the team and a manager that approaches all our games like we are not one of Europe's top clubs. It's all just self fulfilling and the low expectations of supporters who think this is all OK is not helping.

Wrd, you're right, but the season has gone now, if we lose today, then top4 is going to be a big ask. Thr 4 teams you mentioned are all in excellent form and are very good teams. The title was never going to happen despite all the blind optimism from some of the posters on this sight.
Our central defence is shambolic. Our midfield lacks creation. And we have no balance in attack.
It is criminal that we've spent over £400m and we're still in this state.
Blame it on the owners, managers or whoever you want, but the honest assessment, is that our team is nowhere near ready to challenge for the title. In addition, i don't think the club has moved on since Fergie's retirement and we don't seem to have a plan going forward. Time will tell, but our manager has already warned it's going to be a long and hard season.

This is basically the same team that finished 2nd last year.

The hyberpole is incredible on here sometimes.

Angel I think he says that because the other mentioned teams look ruthless. They have improved in terms of signings as well. They have a particular style and they have bought players for that particular type of play. The so called lower teams are vary of that and usually have a negative mentality of approaching the match against these teams. On the other hand we have just bought random players over the past few seasons and are unable to move on some other unwanted players. Teams we face have a game plan in present conditions would be full of confidence.

Sailor, I am aware at what he meant but after three games to basically write off any chance of titles/ cups and top4, I think it really is ridiculous.

Agreed Angel. Loads of time to go. Jose should go with his instincts and play how he wants us to play, Not how we think we should.

Fully back him or sack him, it’s the only way. I’d be amazed if we don’t sign Alderweireld in January.

Totally right Sailor. Finishing 2nd is nothing as we were 19 points behibd the team that finished first.
I maintain that top4 will be a struggle this year.
