All this talk of Sneijder, will he or wont he come, lets get away from it for a while. As a way of uniting the two sites Man Utd and Celtic why dont we have a debate? From what I have seen on here Sydney appears to be the intelligent one with all the facts and figures, so I challenge him to debate with our challenger Wee Pat fae Posso, the Celtic site's brightest spark, are you up for it Sydney? I would like to set the first topic Languages! LOL Timalloy {Ed007's Note - I doubt Sydney would even be able to read Wee Pat, let alone make any sense of him!

So deadline day is almost upon us and the madness will well and truely begin! Personally speaking i'd love for United to make an 11th hour bid to bring in a quality central midfielder. Whilst I would be a fool to rule anything out, I would be surprised if SAF brought in another new face. Luka Modric situation is an intriguing one, he clearly doesn't want to be a Spurs player could United spring a last ditch move? A player who seems to have gone under the radar is Javi Martinez. I think he would be a terrific signing and would certainly offer more than Michael Carrick either way i'll be happy with or without another signing, yes I beleive we do lack that creative spark that a Gotze/Modric/Sneijder would bring but we are more than ready for the season ahead!

For months I have been saying this to everyone I know and on this website (not posted with a name, kept forgetting but if the Ed's can see IP addresses of posters or w.e then they will agree) that we DONT NEED SNEIJDER. He would just hinder Cleverley's development by not letting him play (and for those who will say he can learn from him, what about Scholes in the coaching staff!?) and would cost a ridiculous amount (just under £90mill for a 5 year contract or just over £75mill for a 4 year contract) and there is no guarantees he would fit in straight away. Cleverley is clearly good enough and he can deal with the pressure, just re watch the game against City, 2-0 down, not really in the game, he comes on and completely changes it. If he starts to struggle, let Rooney play in the hole and play two strikers up top. Simple

It ain't goin to happen guys.... no new signing coming tomorrow either in my opinion, very disappointed not to be getting a class midfielder in this summer, as I said previously the current midfield is not good enough to sustain any challenge in Europe this season and will be under pressure in the league if and when we get a few injuries and suspensions during the season...... what have we got?.. Carrick?.. do me a favour!!

I honestly don't understand why some people are giving Hargo a hard time. Yes, ok, United have paid his medical bills for 3 years but they also left him without a club.

Why City? Simple answer - Ambition!
The lad has played for 2 clubs in his entire career - United and Munich. Two huge clubs that compete for trophies every season. Why would he sign for a club, such as Spurs, Villa or West Brom, where the beat he can hope for is a good run in the Europa League or a push for 4th in the league?

I for one think that we United fans should be getting behind him. Saying thanks for never putting in any less than 100% and hoping that he can have another couple of years playing top flight football.

One more thing. Those fans who are criticising him for joining City. Do you feel this way about all players making that move? Last I remembered there was a statue outside Old Trafford of a man who did the exact same thing. He's the one standing with Best and Charlton.

Ed do u know whether or not Ashley Young wil collect the assists for Rooneys free kick's surely he should as he did kinda lay them both up, if he does get them that was quite an impressive performance wasnt it? 2 goals 3 assists in 1 game

Big Mac {Ed007's Note - I have absolutely no idea, the assist stat bores me to death, you can cross the ball like Beckham to garbage strikers and your assist ratio will go down if they don't score, a half decent cross to a Rooney and he will chase and fight for his position maybe leading to a goal.}

To say we never were going to sign a central midfielder is pretty cynical? Especially seems we have tried to sign one. Before you both start whining about no Glazer funds, lets not forget we could have bought Stekelenburg for £5.5m, but instead signed De Gea for £18m. Or we could have made Lindegaard or Kuszczak number one and not signed anyone. We could have bought Dann for £8m instead of paying double for Jones.

So before you go on your little tirades, just remember that yeah? Fees are not the problem, it's the ridiculously high wages that players want.

Sydney!
from that logic syd you could say we bought young for 16 mill ish but if the glazers really had funds they would of bought ronaldo for 100 mill.
i think our net spend this transfer window is about 40mill ,thats not peanuts but for a club our size its not great either(we spent more money on the debt than new players)
The point i have tried to make many times before is that the glazers will not buy big sneijder ,nasri, aguroe were all available we couldn't afford them.
As for we have tried to sign someone ,have we really tried to get some one, when we needed a CB we paid over the odds for ferdi, great buy but 30 mill for a CB at the time was and still is a record, would we spend that much for a CB again?
when we wanted Van fergy openly tapped him up even waited while he got over his knee injury , when did we last try as hard as that to get a player.
when we bought berb we had rooney ronaldo and tevez did we need to spend 30 mill on him no he was a luxury signing ,will we do that again.
we need a cam you like gotze why has fergy noy put a proper bid for the best young player in europe.
maybe because the money isn't there?
i am very happy with our buys this season but i am not blind to our failings and going to try a paper over the cracks with stupid statements like we tried.
a month ago i posted that because of all of the above reasons i didnt think we would buy a worldclass CAM and you told me i was either blind or stupid, well tomorrow we will find out if i am.

hopefully blind and stupid jred

Believable1 Unbelievable3

30 Aug 2011 20:33:47
I don't think we'll sign anyone, it would have happened by now. Fergie's not the type of man to go further down the list until he gets someone. I'm sure we had 2 or 3 or 4 targets for the middle of the park but circumstances have gone against us for whatever reason and we won't be getting any of them.

Even though the midfield has been crying out for a tune-up the last few years i think the reason we never got it was Fergie's patience with players like Anderson, Gibson and to an extent Hargreaves. Then you had Scholes, Carrick and Fletch and Giggsy chipping in too. Scholesy and Hergreaves leave with possibly Gibson and the only one arriving in is Cleverley.

Not buying a midfielder could be a huge mistake. Anderson has never had 5 good games in a row for us let alone a season and Clerverleys form could dip and injuries and you're left with Carrick, Fletch, Giggs and maybe Jones. Risky.

On a final point, if Hargreaves plays 25-30 games this season all the United staff should be asked a few difficult questions on why he was allowed to leave. I'd be happy tomorrow if we re-signed him.

Cheers

Don't know why everyones moaning about Hargreaves to be honest. What difference will it make with him sitting on the bench? Anyone who thinks he'll play instead of Toure, Nasri, De Jong and Barry is wrong. He'll be used for 2 months(injury permitting) when Toure disappears off to Africa for African Cup of Nations. Stop worrying about him we haven't missed him and aren't going to.

How can anyboby be having a go at Hargo for going to City? He is a football player who even we all could agree on is not about the money but still has the hunger for success. Where other than Utd would he have a really good chance to do that?

People seem to be forgetting that WE released him, he didnt ask for a move or refuse to play for us like so many others at other clubs have. He has been a free agent for 3 months meaning his Utd career has been over for that amount of time. He is free to join whoever he pleases. He played brilliantly for 1 season and would no doubt have been still with us had the injuries not started but unfortunately for all involved they did and we have moved on, now he can too.

I wish him all the best and have nothing but respect for a player with so many career threatening injuries to not just get back to playing but also win himself a move to another big club.

Well done Owen just a pity your not still with us.

Jono

P.s. Insurance would of covered all medical fee's and partial wages depending on the premiums. Zero compo would of been paid as he has not retired through injury.

What is this big need for validation people seem to have? It seems that people are more concerned with "I told you so" than the signings we have made and the state of the club. There have been hundreds of predictions on this site over the last year or 2, some of them come off, some of them dont. One thing I will say is that anyone who does truely have ITK sources wouldnt feel the need to come on here shouting about it when they get things right.

dear mr rainfishtrombone
ngiak appreciates your attempt at luring him out of his lethargy
you do remember the stick ngiak got for predicting 3 signings around the 15 to 25 million range at the end of last season?
and the prediction that 20 players will leave the club?
well there are a couple of days yet to prove ngiak wrong
but... after all that stick
surely you have to give it to ngiak's distant sources?
and when did ngiak want a big signing?
sign some youngsters or promote our existing youngsters
has always been ngiak's mantra

One day to go and the clock is ticking

I see some Hargreaves comments, well let us understand that he settled in Manchester and liked it. We also dont know if he has passed the medical yet so let us see. However, if you are sacked by work then you receive another offer why should we have a go at him for taking a job that keeps him and family in the same place. The question that should be asked is how was the decision reached to release him altogether? If he was correctly assessed by our medical department or Bridgewater (the same one that assessed him when we bought him?) then we should have nothing to worry about should we... However if he becomes a success for City then it should prompt a lot of difficult questions.

Goetze, rumours say Arsenal have made an offer. Well it is crunch time, if they succeed are we looking at another Oezil? We were in for him earlier than the summer he went to Madrid but didnt get him. If we have any interest in him and Arsenal are also trying then look what happened with Smalling and Jones, it prompted us to buy earlier than expected.

Frankly if we buy noone it is unacceptable and will prompt serious questions. 26 hours to go

Those of you with good memories will remember when last year just before christmas that Owen H would never play for United again. As i stated then that the problem is in his head not his legs. i have no doubt he can prove his fitness but when it comes to competitive matches he will struggle. Anyway I wish the boy nothing but luck, he never gave less than his best in the shirt and was a star in the champions league final. Even if he wears the blue shirt at OT i am sure he will get a good reception. Can't understand why everyone keeps on going on about who our next signing will be this window. There will be no more signings. After seeing how we performed against Sh*tty in the Charity Shield and Arsenal at the weekend SAF will go with what we've got. I can't believe how many negative Hargreaves comments i'm reading from you lot. What, now he's a traitor for maybe signing for city? He played about 3 games for us, and was riddled with injury for the rest of his contract. We all know how good a player he was, so if he wasn't injured don't you think SAF would've played him. I'm shocked to hear somebody calling him a benchwarmer?

I for one admire his repeated efforts at fitness, I wish him all the best WHEREVER he plays next, and I'm getting tired of reading all of these petty "City are only stealing all our players.." comments.

At this moment in time i am quite gutted with this transfer window, hopefully come tomorrow things will be different.Fair enough we are playing great football atm, young has fitted in really well, jones looks a fantastic prospect same as de gea but as for cleverly he is not our answer to midfield,i believe he will become a great player but not for a few years.I would love to know rooneys thoughts on the players we have signed as i think he was right to question the players we have and how we are to strengthen, nothing will have changed if we get injuries to anderson and young,i will cringe at having to go back to the workman like performances of last year,i dream of a strong dynamic midfield that can compete with the best where rooney can be freed up to rip teams apart.joeyored

not been on for a while.

i had a question for a few. the season when the infamous quote " you cannot win anything with kids" did anyone really think we could?

this season SAF has re-invented the squad, a few on here say we will not compete with Barca. In our side that started against arsenal, only 3 players lined up in the CL final.. so how do we know? On paper yes Barca do look the best, but they are built on homegrown talent. a few years back Barca where not the team they are.. They havent gone spending happy like Real Madrid or our neighbours.. Money dont always buy success. Success is not built overnight. These players might just prove a few of you wrong and actually turn out to be a very good side... And b4 you say Spurs and Arsenal where not great, you can only beat the sides that are put infront of you game by game...

Re: Owen Hargreaves

Man Sh*tty are not the only club to hold their medicals at Bridgwater Hospital, are they?

How about Fergie released Hargreaves such that his contract and related insurances lapse. Hargreaves touts himself around and gets offers from WBA, Villa etc and then goes back to Fergie and is signed up on a pay-as-you-play contract matching the best offer he has had?

I have no evidence for this whatsoever, but would not expect Hargo to join the Sh*tty mercanary corps after the extensive support he was given by United (owners, management, medical staff, fellow players and fans) throughout his three year injury problems. A semi-fit Hargo who could play in 15 to 20 games a season would be a great addition to our squad.

Wow, for free, what was Fergie thinking, all this talk about midfield, he would have been at least good cover.

On another subject I wonder what Rooney thinks of the summer transfers after his comments last year, would think someone would press him on this when the transfer window shuts.

I will be p!ssed off to say the least, if Hargreaves has recovered from his injuries, and then joins that lot. 2 years of treatment at United to then go and play for City? If he can get back to playing anything like he was in 2008 then it's been a mistake letting him go. Anderson and Carrick played their best football for United when playing alongside him.

firstly, I'd like to make the point of stating that i was wrong in saying the Arsenal game would be closer than we thought, Really didn't expect that result.

Secondly, I've got a feeling this season will go to the last day, unfortunately I think it's going city's way, they've got so much depth and it's really starting to look like a team rather than a group of individuals, so I think they'll win it this year with our boys coming in a close second.

I'm going to hand it to Liverpool as well, they've looked very sharp, and although they don't look as strong at the back, going forward and on the wings they look very good, when Gerrard is back, they'll drop Adam and then I can see them starting to hit form. Gerrard isn't the player from 2-3 years ago but he's still very influential and very talented.

as for our lads, I'm really impressed, i wasn't expecting us to start this strongly, and when you consider we've got Ferdinand, Rafael and Vidic not fully fit as well as a not match fit Hernandez or Toni we're going to get a lot stronger as the year goes on.

I'm hoping Cleverley doesn't play EVERY game because although he's looking the part He'll start picking up consistent knocks and may have the same problems as Wilshere this time next year.

The league is looking very promising this far, Still not sure who will finish in 4th but my top 4 looks like this:

1)City
2)United
3)Chelsea
4)Liverpool/Arsenal.

Hi everyone.

I used to remember that the fans (us) really want WS not so long time ago. But after it has emerged that 'eventually' he's asking for a higher wages, everyone seems to say that we don't need WS (greedy type of footballers = Nasri, and all the s**tty players), we have TC, Ando or Pogba even. Yes, it is true that those lads are the future of United. But don't you think it's funny that at one point, we are saying "C'mon, join us Sneijder..bla bla bla..You will suit us..bla bla bla.." and then suddenly "Boo..we don't need you..you are not that world-class anymore..bla bla bla.."..its quite funny actually..haha..its the same as if u are desperately trying to get a girl, but then when she does not comply to ur needs, u've become so angry..childish huh..? I'll let you guys give a thought about that though..

Now, moving on..so we don't know if we are going to sign WS or not, but then everyone seems to get attracted with Gotze's performance. Wow, then again..same storyline..different player..haha..we need to keep our feet on the ground people. I've been reading a lot about his rumors coming to OT, but we have to be optimistic, not fantasizing about it. I would love to relate this rumor to the one back in 2010 right after the world cup with a player named Mesut Ozil. Remember him..?great player..superb vision and technical abilities..we have a lot of rumors mentioning that he will join us. (the build up was a bit similar to Nasri and WS rumors) Even SAF was spotted at a pre-season game watching this kid played. But then, he signed for...none other than Real Madrid. Funny ey. I feared that this Gotze's rumors are similar like Ozil's one. So don't put high expectation on it k brothers. Still, 50-50. Great player, gonna be world-class one day and I have to admit I really would love to see him join the other young lads at OT to even challenge the 'mighty' Barca, but then again I have to be optimistic, not fantasizing as if I'm playing Football Manager.

Lastly, its better for us to continue to give our support to SAF just like always. He knows what's he doing. we have a bigger squad, more fluid and energetic (pity Berba though) , great winning mentality. It's gonna be an exciting season ahead esp challenges from s**tty. 3 words for ya.."Just Bring It"..

Havent posted in a while, Just want to have an early bet at young being signing of the season, what an impact he has made! I wasnt ever the greatest fan of young before but am over the moon to be getting proved wrong, the guy oozes confidence and is much better technically than i ever gave him credit for!

Other shouts would be

jones-man united
aguero-sh?!ty
mata-chelsea

I also hope hargreaves agrees a move to villa, think hes one of the in england when fit and would light up a fading villa side full of quality english players

So, Wesley Sneijder and David Gill both put the final nails in that coffin - we ain't getting him. Now I'm not as gutted as I thought I'd be as I have been impressed thus far with our midfield.

BUT. Massive BUT. Where is the Ronaldo money? We've spent £50m on a very good young GK (no complaints there), and two excellent English players who've already proven me wrong.

However, as the likes of RAINFISHTROMBONE have been saying, again we have been lied to. Gill has once again fooled a lot of our fans, myself included, into thinking we have the money for a marquee midfielder. In all honesty, I'd take ANY good CM - doesn't have to be £30m, £15-20m could get us the likes of Yann M'Vila (insert every other name we've seen listed on here all summer).

My main worry is this: - Tom Cleverly has been decent, not brilliant but very decent; he CANNOT play a full season and keep this form up. Neither can Anderson, we know how injury prone and hot&cold the guy is.

So what happens then? Any time these guys are out, who do we rely on? A twilight-years Ryan Giggs, Darren Gibson, Michael Carrick and Darren Fletcher. The latter is still suffering from the virus that laid him out for so long, the middle two are simply not good enough to win us trophies - 2 years ago, maybe. Not now, when City and Chelsea are stronger, as are Liverpool.

So to conclude, by Xmas we'll all be having the exact same negative debates about how easily we are dominated in the middle of the park and how we should have signed a CM when we had the chance.

Soz for the essay guys, just a little disappointed. Before anyone says it - I know Paul Pogba's brilliant but you're deluded if you expect him to play in anything other than CC games against league 2 oppositiion this season.

im sorry but if pogba is good enough then why not play or even on the bench..... wilshere has had a cracking career so far imo and he started off on the bench and got chucked in and proved his class i would love to see him introduced and tried out...... plus imo cleverley still doesnt look good enough for our first team i would love to see schweinsteiger or m'villa with anderson in the middle or even try out valencia in the middle with his power
