Find it funny how Mancini was moaning about West Brom parking all their players behind the ball, pretty sure most teams have done that against us in the league for 20 years.

Seriously need to complain to Sky tv. Man city seem to be on every bl**dy week and again scheduled for 4 games next month, then come to united only twice.

So thats Vidic, Evans, Fabio, Smalling all injured, Rafael and Ferdinand are bound to get injured soon as well. So that just leaves us with Jones along with Carrick and Valencia who can fill in there. I think someone like Benatia could come in as he can play along the back line - thats what we need, someone versatile. Alternativly we could get Rodwell who can play in defence or in midfield.

Sneijder could be the other player to come in, something seems realistic and real about it - especially for 25 million. Weirder things have happened...

I just want to reflect on SAF comments on the Berbatov contract extension. Regardless of the merits of it something has not been fully explained.

A member of the group which represents Berbatov, said the other day "It all depends on United's plans. We wait until 2 January. Until then, United have the option but if that does not happen then Berbatov would be a free transfer in the summer" You would expect someone who is part of his agents to know the contract.

SAF said today United would look at Berbatovs contract in March to add the extra year. So in January can Berbatov speak to anyone or not, after all we are not looking at it until March? I understood European regulations allowed Berbatov to speak to other clubs in January. So does the fact we will wait until March allow Berbatov to do anything in January and how binding is whatever he agrees?

Berbatov quasi agent indicates United must do something before 2nd January yet SAF says March.

I may be reading it wrongly without full details, however, could this be a way of forcing Berbatov to leave in January or face having his contract extended in March thus removing the option of his arranging a free transfer for Summer.

Hope you understand my logic.

I for one would love to sign rodwell. I don't get some peoples attitude. I think its just snoberry. The same people though are the same ones daft enough to pay forty million for bale. Ask yourselves this though. Who would you prefer rodwell or gibson? Rodwell or anderson?

Man united are a business and when I read berba linked with psg , pogba inter etc I laugh , we don't know what goes on behind scenes but club is in good shape lots young talent but personally I don't rate silva brothers they foul to much and always injured, carrick 1 goal 70 games ? Roy keane must be sick as he now wears no16 ,berba top scorer yes but he scored 5 in1 game he has great skill but just doesn't do it for me ! Cleverly took his chance and serious player I'm sure pogba needs to do same watched him v Liverpool res and hit post with rocket ! Their will always be speculation as man u sells papers etc sky got last summer out of Wesley situation right down to wire !
We have no cm , we need goal scoring cm , left back soon as evera getting caught a lot , another vidic please and another forward that can score , wish list Wesley sneijder, chris samba (rock) and torres (red is his colour) Ashley cole

I reckon we deffo need a good two signings in jan.

We are looking very vulnerable at the back and I think even if it were someone like Vedran Ćorluka who would add depth and would not cost the earth, Im not sure we need a top class defender as when fit the ones we have are as good as any anywhere.

Midfield is my main worry. With Fletcher out and no indications of when or if he will return we need some steel and reliability in the middle. I would love to see Modric although I cant see this happening and Sneijer blowing hot and cold all the time not now on my wanted list. I think we should again look at players who would add depth and reliability as the youngsters we have coming through like Ravel Morrisson and Tom Cleverley who I think are both going to be very very good.

Would Niko Kranjčar, Sami Khedira, or Mesut Özil be an option? All of whom I believe are out of favour at their current clubs.

I do have some "wishfull" signings. Christian Eriksen, Ricardo Montilivo and Stevan Jovetic all are players I like but doubt we would go for.

As for players out Tomasz Kuszczak, Mame Biram Diouf, Darren Gibson and Federico Macheda should all be out the door in my opinion and I would add Johnny Evans to this if we were not stuck with defensive injuries.

Berbatov I think we should keep until the summer.

Ed & Syd its over to you lol What do you guys reckon?

With other teams taking advantage of the MLS and our continuing defensive crisis could Fergie take advantage of the 2 month loan option and get defenders from there? Is there anyone good enough though?

Sparkys kneecap. {Ed002's Note - It is not really a viable option. And I doubt an option at all for any centrally held contracts.}

So spot on mate..

So with this what can we expect ?

He will be sold now or stay more 6 months and leave in summer.

Another injury blow for us :(

I really hope we get the cheque book now out and work on all this talk about sniejder. I know its annoying its all we hear lol but its pretty clear we lack that something special in the middle of the park plus some defensive cover as the injuries in our back 4 are shocking. Gary Cahill/Samba i would take any to be honest as its going cost us dear when we start to play quality teams with a make shift back 4.

It is a pity too the last few weeks we had started to look more like ourselves but lets not get carried away, we are a million miles of Barcalona and quality signings are need in several areas of the pitch.

Regards bale didn't he say that his ambition and next step after spurs was to play abroad? So let a foreign team buy him and pay spurs over inflated extortionate amount. Then a season or two later when he's got "abroad" out of his system and flopped, because lets face it 90% of british players who go abroad flop for various reasons, not usually talent just culture clashes. Then we go and "rescue" him for less than they paid. And he'd still be fairly young.

just one last thing on the bale debate a lot of people dont rate him at 30 mill which is fair enough with 20 mill being most peoples agreed price just wondering what price you woud put on nani , young and valencia

I do think Utd need a central defender. Vidic is out for the season and Ferdinand's back trouble is known by everyone. There were rumours this morning that Smalling was out for 3 months. Thankfully this was untrue but that is how close Utd are to a defensive crisis. We got away with Carrick and Evra against Wigan but I do not think we would be so fortunate against one of our title rivals. Of course, SAF is fully aware of all of this and I am sure that he will have a 'little deal' up his sleeve sometime in this approaching window.

Here's something different:
Who do u guys think has the best football wisdom on this site and then the least?
My vote goes to Shappy. Look forward to his posts and usually agree with most of them.
For the least I'd have to go with lfc, he posts the biggest rubbish on here, although sometimes his scouse attitude can be quite entertaining.

Reading all the Banter posts today it is a shame that Santa came a week ago as there appears to be a lot of Reds who have rather a large list of "presents" that they want.

Being realistic, I think Fergie will trade in January but use the opportunity to shift out some of the 2nd string players and use these to bring in players that will fill some of the weaker areas. For example :

Blackburn - desperate to bring in some fresh faces . I can see Samba arriving with the likes of Gibson ( who Blackburn were after in the close season ) and possibly a few others being used in part exchange. Common knowledge that the two have spent a bit of time on the phone to each other and United and Rovers do have a track record of trading together.
( Also what about Junior Hollett ? )

Bolton - Gary Cahill - again in part exchange with possibly Macheda and Diouf going in the other direction. Be a good addition to the squad and understand that he doesn't really want to leave the North West.

Newcastle - Until a few weeks ago , I would have waged money that Carrick would have finished his career in his home time but that may now have to wait. I think Tiote was a United target but perhaps not at present.

Spurs - Harry always wheels and deals in January, so wouldn't surprise me if Modric does leave, though could only imagine him being interested in Berbatov at present, though Ferdinand may well end up there in the summer.

Finally, one for the summer ( when I think most of the activity will take place ) I think either Rooney or Hernandez will end up at Real Madrid. The latter has gone off the boil recently, which can be a sign that his mind is elsewhere. Either way I think one player that will arrive will be Ozil, who Fergie chased after the last World Cup and is the kind of player that we need.

Happy New Year to you all and here's to 3 points tomorrow.

I suspect our line-up against Blackburn will look like this:

______Lindegaard
Toni__Ferdy__Jones__Evra
Park_Carrick__Giggsy_Nani
____Dimitar__Rooney

DDG / Rafael / Fryers / Gibson / Macheda / Welbeck / Hernandez.

Rafael may come in with Valencia moving to RW, I think (hope) that Ferdinand & Jones will return. I think it would be crazy not to start with Berbatov after last week's hat-trick and last season's five goals against Blackburn. I think Lindegaard may keep is place.

Any thoughts lads & ladies? Ed can you post this in banter please?

Notice what sir alex said about transfers:
- he said he ll only buy a really top class player
- he ll only buy if one of the clubs long-term targets becomes available
-he also said he was'nt sure about whether players currently playin in the champions league would be eligible to play in the europa league.
So the question is, what player is really top class, is a long-term target and is currently playing in the champions league?
Do i really have to say it? O.k! It probably wesley sniejder.
I honestly believe he is our first choice for the midfield. And it makes sense, i mean, can anyone think of a midfielder of wesley's skill, quality and experience who is also available and for only £25M.
Now i would be as happy as anyone if we signed modric, but for some reason, people here seem to think modric is alot cheaper, alot better, and alot younger than wesley.
Well here's a few interesting points:
-modric is 26years old, only 1year younger than sniejder
- modric has little experience of real top level football, while wesley inspired holland to a worldcup final and inter to a trebble, which included defeating an inform chelsea, the unstoppable barca and making bayern look really average.
-sniejder would cost around £25m while modric would cost close to £40m in transfer fees.
-sniejder would demand around £200k in wages but modric would also demand around £180k( which is what chelsea may be willin to pay and remember they are his first choice, he wouldnt have to relocate and they offer a decent a shot at silverware just like us. Simply put, we would have to offer higher wages in order to turn his head from chelsea.)
in summary, wesley's better, he would cost alot less interms of transfer fees and there wont be a significant difference in wage demands.
personally, id like us to have both. They would be like our xavi and iniesta. But if i had to choose, id pick wesley hands down!

Ed, Syd... when united sold ronaldo, before we acsepted the £80million didnt real offer us one of sneijder,van der vaart and robben ? if fergie was soo interested in sneijder as its reported wouldnt he have taken him and the money when he had the chance ? {Ed001's Note - good point, but at the time it must be remembered that Sneijder had a lot of personal issues, which were affecting his form. Also they were trying to value the players at a ridiculous amount, I seem to remember it being 50m, but I am not 100% on the amount.}

Seems everyone's been playin the 'what if i had £100m game'. So here's my 2 cents, but brace yourselves, and remember its MY opinion!

in:
-sniejder(CAM) £27m
-cavani(ST) £35m
-modric(CM) £35m
-hazard(LW) £35m
-cahill (CB) £8m
total = £150m

out:
-berba( i like berba but funds need to be raised and sniejder is a good replacement for berba's skill and touch) £15m

-henandez( never rated him, people only got carried away coz he scored 20goals and didnt cost much. Well guess what? Welbeck will probably score as much, is more skillful and cost nothing. Cavani is a fantastic replacement anyway) £25m
-id release the polish goalkeeper.
-park £3m
- retire giggs to preserve his legendary status.
- gibson £5m
- diouf £3m
- anderson £10m
- i ll give ferdinand 1more season.
- id sell vidic when he recovers and get a decent price before his injuries begin to take their toll.
Total= £61m
Net spend= £89m
o.k, thats all folks.
