Not MU related but a debate I've had with a few mates, who do you think is a more all round gifted player out of Suarez or Aguero?

Very close but I choose Suarez.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Has to be aguero for me for the power

Agree0 Disagree0

Techinally I would say aguero but as a whole package suarez by a mile for me, some of his instinctive of the cuff brilliance is freighting, imagine how many he would have scored this year in man citys team, dosnt bare thinking about

Agree0 Disagree0

Hard one! I think we should put both in front of a firing squad and who ever wets themselves first loses!

hey guys just wanted everyones opinion on who is going to will finish top 4?
im going to stick my neck out and say city chelsea liverpool utd. yes no arsenal. I have a feeling they will go downhill and struggle to cope with the difficult games ahead and they always seem to lose their energy in the 2nd half of the season. thoughts?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

City, Arsenal, Chelski, Liverpool, United, Spurs, Everton.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think it will be.

1. Chelsea
2. City
3. Liverpool
4. Arsenal

Honestly don't think we'll make it. I agree Arsenal may go downhill, but they have more depth in their squad than people realize IMO.

Agree0 Disagree0

Unfortunately redseven I think you might be right!

Agree0 Disagree0

Last year Arsenal got 35 points from the last 14 games, and were the leading points gainer over that period, beating Spurs and United by 5. Other than the 6 they let in against City their defense has been pretty solid so I don't see any reason to expect a collapse. I'm tending to agree with redseven. It would be hard to bet against City.

Agree0 Disagree0

1 man city
2 chelsea
3 man utd
4 arsenal

some may call me mad but I just have sneak feeling were going to go on a crazy streak of good form and arsenal are going to bottle

Agree0 Disagree0

City, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool, United, Spurs, Everton

Agree0 Disagree0

Stretfordender,

I actually agree that could happen to be honest but I am a bit wary it will be Liverpool that capitalise on arsenals collapse and not us. Their run is horrendous, if Liverpool and united beat them I a couple of weeks I see both teams having a great chance of overtaking them.

Agree0 Disagree0

For some reason I feel as though we're more likely to finish ahead of Chelsea than Arsenal. If City beat Chelski next week and we win we are only 7 points behind them.

As it is I'll have to stick with my earlier predictions.

Agree0 Disagree0

City, Arsenal, Chelsea, United.

Hi,
It has been a quiet day today on the transfer front. Are there any thoughts from the Eds, and anyone else on potential moves tomorrow? Having looked at the internet gossip (and it really is stretching it on most gossip) I wonder if some deals are in the pipe line. Most interesting of note seems to be Matuidi (PSG), Kroos and Martinez (Bayern), Reus and Gudjagon (Dortmund).
Fingers crossed for 1 or 2 of these or ones we don't know.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think Gundogan will move to Real in the summer. Matuidi may end up at Arsenal this window. Don't see Kroos, Martinez or Reus moving now or in the summer.

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Jan 2014 21:17:35
Hi guys, some relief from the emptiness that is the transfer 'window'.
There is a very good and interesting article in guardian, about the murky world of third party ownership of players!
From the article it suggests chelsea are up to their necks in it, a certain Peter Kenyon and the man with his fingers in all the pies, super agent Jorge Mendes.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Anyone else see Big Sam's comments during the post-match interview? A great laugh if you want to watch it. Basically he is criticizing Mouriniho after him complaining about West Ham's tactics.

Anyway, tomorrow is deadline day and I have already got the snacks and drinks in for me to sit alone and watch all the latest deals (sad I know). But I am still confident we will be signing atleast one more player before the deadline, may it be a midfielder, defender or attacker. I would prefer a midfielder as that is current the weak spot. Evra can torture us just a little bit more ;)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

These quotes from Jose himself after Arsenal match: "Boring is a team that plays at home & doesn't score goals"

BTW, not sad, if I could get away with it I would to. I will see until about 5ish then hopefully the last hour or so :)

Best team of individuals I have seen in real life
Goalkeeper Peter Schmiechel
Left back Ashley Cole
Centre Backs Bobby Moore & Franz Beckenbauer
Right Back Danny McGrain
Midfield Paul Scholes, Graham Souness, Roy Keane
Forwards Pele, George Best, Ronaldo (current)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Ashley cole should not be amongst these great players a good left back yes but no Roberto Carlos lol

Agree0 Disagree0

I'll do a list of my favourite world class players who didn't exactly set the world a lite here but either withered away or went onto great things!
Goalkeeper -Jim lieghton
Back four-lee. Martin, pique, shawcross, blackmore
Midfield -phelan, Webb, platt
Forwards -lee Sharpe, rossi, forlan
Veron too obvious but I liked all these players

Agree0 Disagree0

Nice.

Peter Sch.
Rio Ferdinand (age 26)
P.Maldini
L.Thuram
F.cannavaro
E.Davids
Z.Zidane
L.Matthaus

Sorry, bloody phone again! Was going to say Stoichkov the Bulgarian and Georgi Hagi from Romania were brilliant. Batistuta was a great player too. As a kid I used to love Hugo Sanchez, the "king of the bicycle kick". Scored some ridiculous goals.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Betty

I have a hagi top on tonight for my 5's game.

Batigol was always the one that we never got for me. Of all the other players I would have loved seeing like maldini, thuram, cannavarro, zidane, pirlo etc I always was gutted we never got him. Absolutely lethal and with necks giggs and scholes supplying he would have bettered RVN scoring record IMO

Agree0 Disagree0

Absolutely loved the 82 Brazil team Zico & Eder were fantastic

Agree0 Disagree0

Jono, I agree about Batigol as you call him. Would have been awsome for us, and a huge hit with the fans. Loving your Hagi shirt by the way. Strange coincidence.
For past favoourites, Ruud Gullit in his prime deserves a mention too.

Agree0 Disagree0

Romario wasn't too bad either. Barca had quite a side back then with Rivaldo too.

Agree0 Disagree0

Batigol was always the one that got away, forget Shearer. He had everything, would have lit up the EPL.

Loving the posts today, like a trip down memory lane - That goal from Sparky against when he cut past the keeper and rifled a low day cutter in from the angle, never forget it!

Agree0 Disagree0

Blackpool red, brazil 82 is my favourite side ever also. Those couple of goals against Russia from Socrates and especially Eder's flick and volley are 2 of the best of all time.

Agree0 Disagree0

A very young Careca just got injured before the 82 finals. With him up top with Zico they would have wiped the floor with the rest. Still don't know to this day how they didn't go on and win it anyway.

Agree0 Disagree0

Betty

Batigol was his nickname bud

Im.a blooded liverpool fan syd but yes though talented he is BR is not the best PL manager imo. Saying that if fans say Pellegrini, you could argue his job is easier because of the players he has to work with. You couldsay wenger.for consistentcy but when was the last time he won a trophy? Though i'm not a fan of the man, i'd have to say mourinho based on results and getting the best out if his players.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Agreed. Criteria for the title is ill defined.

Mourinho is the best for grinding out results. Wenger is the best for developing youngsters. Martinez plays some of the most attractive football in the league. Pardew is good for bringing in players with potential. Rodgers is very good tactically. SAF was the best for getting the very best out of his players.

Moyes? I'm not so sure he's the best at anything.

I'm also undecided when it comes to Pellegrini. Given the vast array of talent he has at his fingertips I honestly think it would be harder for him to fail than succeed. I suppose with that comes pressure - and he's seemingly handling that rather well.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think its easy to underestimate the skill it takes to manage a team with so many superstars and big egos like City have. On the face of it, it would seem easy to manage a team with so much talent., but Mancini didn't do it nearly as well as Pellegrini has done. And he has done it in such a short time too. Despite all the big bucks spent on players in the summer, I think Pellegrini has been City's best signing.

Agree0 Disagree0

Thanks for all the responses. It seemed like a reasonable question to ask on a non-football day while there is also no concrete transfer news - especially the day after Liverpool and Man City had decimated quality opponents while Chelsea could only manage a draw against West Ham.

It will be interesting to see if Moyes can insert himself into the argument after he has had the opportunity to rebuild the squad and its tactics according to his vision. Let's hope that Mourinhos vision which consigned Chelsea's previously most valuable player to United, will be the first step towards in his staking that claim.

Agree0 Disagree0

Do not agree with wenger bringing through young players. Most we're bought and Fergie has miles better record not just who played for the first team but for players who ended up playing for other prem teams.

Agree0 Disagree0

Pancho - I'm not talking strictly academy players - but young players in general. Cesc, Wiltshere and Ramsay vs. Cleverley, Welbeck and Gibson?

Tbf - I suppose you could add Ronaldo to SAF's list - but aside from him and Rooney the last great players we developed were the class of '92.

Banter aside, .whos your favourite player bar.any.of.the.united players and ronaldo, within the PL or europe. Question for all

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Playing now, iniesta even though he has Barca syndrome. Messi doesn't count because technically he shouldn't be allowed to play. Of my life time Maradona.

Agree0 Disagree0

Gundogan.

Agree0 Disagree0

For personality, i'd go with Ibrahimovic, plus he has the best autobiography ever. For players I love to watch, it would have to be Iniesta. Of all time, of players in my lifetime, brazilian Ronaldo.

Agree0 Disagree0

Apart from the obvious ones I love watching isco play, total joy to watch, so glad he went to madrid and never joined citeh.

Agree0 Disagree0

Bastian Schweinsteiger without a doubt

Agree0 Disagree0

I can't believe I am admitting this, but I am a big admirer of Yaya Toure. I think the guy is immense. IMO, the best pound for pound CM in world football today.

Agree0 Disagree0

It's got to be Messi

Agree0 Disagree0

I think Aguero is an exceptional player. He is a player I would have loved MU to sign. Jovetic was one of my favourite players for years. Since his massive injury he hasn't been the same player IMO. Believe it or not when my missus heard we were signing Mata, she said to me: "isn't that the player you like?" I asked her what she meant and she said: "wasn't he that player you liked, the player that attends uni in his spare time". I had completely forgotten, but around 18 month's ago I watched an interview with Mata and he said he was studying hard as when he leaves football he wants to do more with his life. I said to my missus that I liked Mata. Some players have amazing talent, but I like players who are also nice people. Mata is a nice guy. So when he was a Chelsea player I did like Mata. I do like other team's players. Modric is another player I like. Hernandez is a MU player that I like due to his personality. Another nice lad.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed004's Note - Would agree with them all stated above}

Vidal

Agree0 Disagree0

I love to watch Berbatov play, some may call him lazy but his football intelligence is off the charts, the things that man can do without breaking a sweat are phenomenal, still wouldn't sat he is my total favorite player though. Suarez & Aguero are goal scoring freaks.

Agree0 Disagree0

Far too many really. As I play CM I like watching them more than other areas and also why I get so frustrated watching us play haha.

Vidal, Cabaye and Schweinstiger

Agree0 Disagree0

Giggs- being the reason I support united. But non united player has the be totti.

Agree0 Disagree0

The Brazilian Ronaldo, I was one of those who stood to give him a standing ovation for his hat trick for Real Madrid at Old Trafford. Brilliant player

Agree0 Disagree0

George (was the) Best.
Cosh

Agree0 Disagree0

Ronaldinho and Xavi were my favourites.

Agree0 Disagree0

Totti?

I only watch the videos of him kicking, stamping, spitting etc at folk, never realised he was on the park to play football anymore

Agree0 Disagree0

Zidane if we are talking about the past and in current day, I think Aguero, Vidal and Ibra are players you turn on the TV to watch and exceptional at what they do.

Agree0 Disagree0

There have been some great players, some more famous than others. Stoichkov

Agree0 Disagree0

Personally my favourite players has to be Berbatov, absolute genius, coolest man in football, and one of the best first touches in world football. My favourite player to watch has got be Aguero. Superb player and capable of magical moments.

Agree0 Disagree0

I love watching Cavani, have done since he was at Palermo. Complete striker imo! Always liked Benzema as well, really wanted us to sign him when he was at Lyon. I now watch Juve just for Vidal too!

Agree0 Disagree0

Favourite of all time has to be the charasmatic king eric at 4 years old when I walked into the room and saw this bloke turn the collar up on his shirt with a swagger in his step I was and will forever be a united and footie fan.

Agree0 Disagree0

Other than stating the obvious, big name players. A player that I admire and watch a lot for club and country is Keisuke Honda. He seems to have a sly, unfazed style similar to Berbatov. He's very technically gifted too.

Agree0 Disagree0

Eric was a joy to watch, his crazy attitude was awesome as well.

Non-Utd - can't get better than Aguero, he is another level now for me.

Agree0 Disagree0

Diego Maradona

Deeps.

Agree0 Disagree0

I always liked George we ah and pavel nedved. Would have loved to have them at united. Henry was always good to watch as well.

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree with all those syd mate. Think my absolutely face players are.

Cantona
Ronaldo
mata (always been a fan)
Suarez
Thierry Henry
Aguero

My very face player to watch ever though was ronaldinho. Whn he was at his peak he was unplayable.

Agree0 Disagree0

First time poster, long time reader, have to throw a name into the hat here that reminds me of my sunday afternoons as a young un, roberto baggio played some amazin stuff

Agree0 Disagree0

On of the best golascorers - Romario

Agree0 Disagree0

So many options.

Obviously, my country men Zidane and Cantona, absolute geniuses.

Totti is a joy to behold, and so was Ronaldinho in his prime.

Right now, my favorite non united player has to be Frank Lampard. He was never up there with the most talented or physically gifted footballers, which is why the way he turned himself into a world class player is very impressive. By far the smartest footballer I have ever seen.
And with an IQ of 150+, he just might be the smartest athlete in the world.

Agree0 Disagree0

Luis figo has to be up there
outside the prem at present vidal.

Agree0 Disagree0

Steve Coppell and Gordon Hill.

Two reasons why I'll shed a quiet tear if we move away from out and out wingers.

Ps. George was still the best of all.

Agree0 Disagree0

NO question about it . Duncan Edwards

Agree0 Disagree0

The Kop will topple to Hill and Coppell!

Agree0 Disagree0

Being serious, Zidane was always a delight to watch.

Agree0 Disagree0

Can't believe non of you gave Robo a mention!

Agree0 Disagree0

Faustino asprilla
Baresi
Gascogne
John Barnes
Beardsley
Hagi
Stoichkov
Maradona
Gullit
Zidane

Agree0 Disagree0

Mick. Seriously? Lampard has an IQ of 150+? Where did you here this?

Although he comes over as a reasonably intelligent bloke, he does a good job of hiding his super genius.

Next up - Wazza makes rocket science easy?

Zaha has just completed his loan move to Cardiff according to the daily fail's " ". I suspect if Nani moves on today or tomorrow, then we will see one or two players arrive tomorrow.

Zaha, Fabio, Anderson & Nani out from the first team.

Just Mata in. So you would expect one more? Surely? If we see anything regarding Buttner going out on loan, that will be a good indication that a LB will sign.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I fully expect a CMer with outside chance of a LB.

Edd004, i'd love to know your favourite player bar ronaldo or past players?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed004's Note - I dunno it's a hard one there is so many players too chose from. Though currently Vidic or Rafael I dunno just something about their attitudes and never give up approach. One if my favourite highlights was Rafael squaring up to Tevez}

Rooney was my favourite player from the day he signed up until 2010 when he had his best ever season. I liked Ronaldo, but I liked the effort Rooney put in all over the field. I like RvP, he is a very classy player. A complete professional.

Agree0 Disagree0

Don't mean to butt in on your thread :-), but talking of players squaring up brought back a memory that I found hilarious. Do you remember a few years back in a CL match when Ivan Zamorano tries to physically intimidate Jaap Stam? BIG mistake. Like trying to back into a concrete pillar. Still makes me laugh.

Agree0 Disagree0

Scholes and Keane. *sigh*

Agree0 Disagree0

Scholes and Keane were pure class. Less spectacular, but Peter Schmeichel was brilliant.

Agree0 Disagree0

Giggs

Agree0 Disagree0

I think as a professsional it is Evans. Loyal, hard working, gifted footballer who has ignored us fans from day 1 and just got on with his job of trying to be the best cb we have.

As for my personal favourite I think it has to be Fletcher. He has the drive and energy that is needed in a United player. Adding his injury nightmare on top then it just shows what sort of a person he is and the passion he has for the game. I just wish a few of those that have been shipped out had the same mentality.

Agree0 Disagree0

Favourite current player: Rafa

Player I've seen: Big Pete

Player in history: Best

Agree0 Disagree0

Maybe I shouldn't, but I judge people on who I wouldn't mind having a drink with.

I know Johnny a little bit through friends, and he seems like a top bloke. Definitely drinking partner material :)

Agree0 Disagree0

Scholes and Zidane

Agree0 Disagree0

Always loved Van Nistelrooy fantastic goal machine, but the reason I fell in love with United was Jesper Ollsen the whole reason I wanted to play Football :)

Agree0 Disagree0

Currently, it's hard to see beyond Valencia. He breaks his ankle, works out like a beast, and comes back the fittest member of the squad, by a significant margin, less than 6 months later. Legendary stuff

His strength, pace and work rate show just how hard he works to keep himself in such condition.

He also doesn't have an agent since he doesn't want to leave the club.

While he has very limited technical ability, and I'm one of the people who prefers not to see us playing with wingers, and him not being anywhere near the class of some of our other players, he's still my favorite by far.

I'd still rather see him on the bench though

Agree0 Disagree0

Bebe obviously! Can't believe he hasn't been mentioned.

Saw a reply to a post down the page about favorite jerseys, thought I'd bring it up to the top and get a discussion going (for two reasons, keep our minds away from the silliest two days of silly season, and to give our poor eds a break from answering pointless questions!).

My favorite jersey from throughout the years was the 93-95 away one, Umbro were the makers and Sharp (what ever happened them?!) were the sponsors. It was the first United jersey I ever had, too big for me even when I was watching the 1999 Champions League final as a seven year old! Still have it (bit small now mind!) and will certainly be keeping it!

In terms of home jerseys, I was always quite partial to the 2006/07 one with the white v neck. Probably the last time we had a fully functioning midfield, maybe that's why I like it! what's your favorites guys?!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

The white away kit from I'm guessing it would be 98/99 my very first kit and one of my faves by far. The images of giggsy after scoring THAT goal against Arsenal just show why that top was the best!

Agree0 Disagree0

Adidas 1990-91 (I think) was quite groovy.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - The 1994-96 Umbro top with the stadium embossed in it was a cracker but my favourite would be the half green/gold one from 92/93(?). That was one of the nicest football tops ever and not just out of Utd ones.}

Oh and Adidas 1986 or 1988 was quite smart too.

Agree0 Disagree0

My favourite is probably the white from our Cup Winners Cup victory in 91. The memory of Hughes rounding the keeper and slamming the ball home from an angle, is one I will never forget. Have to say, that is one of my all time favourite goals too.

Agree0 Disagree0

My favourite top of all time is the Italian diadora top of 1990 wc, like a silk shirt. I'll have to stop this reminiscing now before I don my gazelles, do a few electro arm waves and a couple of back spins.

Agree0 Disagree0

Remember the 01/02 season, 3rd kit, white, reversible gold shirt made by Umbro and sponsored by Vodafone. Great shirt.

Agree0 Disagree0

2005 black away kit, sponsored by Vodafone. That highbury night . still gives me goosebumps.

Deeps.

Agree0 Disagree0

I was actually looking at that green and gold one earlier ed. The one with strings at the top. Think it was something to commemorate 100 years since changing from Newton Heath or something like that.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - That's the one mate, it was a thing of beauty! Speaking of strips, has anyone seen the new Shamrock Rovers GK strip? It's bizarre to say the least:

http://goo.gl/4vpJXY

White admiral kit with 3 black lines down the left hand side. The sight of Jimmy Greenhoff stooping to head past Clemence in mind in the 79 semi final replay comes to mind. Used to wear for games at school . Classic kit.

Agree0 Disagree0

Green and Gold with laced neck from the early 90's was class. Had one with Cantona on the back. Worth a small fortune on ebay now!
Home kit from 99 treble season was very classy too.

Agree0 Disagree0

The 1977 white away shirt with the 4 black lines down one side, adidas copied it in the 80s with 3 black stripes and the black 94 away kit.

Agree0 Disagree0

Big john o'shea with a beauty of a chip over stuart taylor (i think), great game, lovely kit!

Agree0 Disagree0

Bond picked out my two favs. The green and gold was such a bold choice at the time and the stadium embossed home kit was fecking beautiful. I don't think I have really liked a kit for almost 15 years. I feel they are all too generic and unimaginitive nowadays.

Agree0 Disagree0

Supasub. Backspins! lmaof :)

Agree0 Disagree0

It has to be my first United kit when I was 6, which would have been the 86/87 season. I loved that kit.

Good memories.

Agree0 Disagree0

Favourite Utd one: green and gold one

Favourite Scotland one: Euro 96 tartan one

Favourite ever: Mexico WC 98 with the Aztec head on it

Agree0 Disagree0

That Shamrock keepers top is very UFC.

Favourite Kit is the UTD Green and Gold, never owned it but always liked it.

Agree0 Disagree0

Hehe Betty, in all honesty if I did try it now I would probably be out of action for a couple of weeks.

Agree0 Disagree0

Pancho and midfield general nailed it. Got it first time around as a kid, and the only football top my wife ever let me buy as an adult!

Agree0 Disagree0

Some things from the 80's and early 90's are so funny to think about now. Breakdancing, body popping, mullets, perms, shoulder pads, the list is endless. Great times though. I'M 40 now, but the late 80's and early 90's were the best years ever. Still wear my Gazelles and blue suede Samba's too!
Backspins lol. Priceless :)

Agree0 Disagree0

Admiral 79-80 (don't think it changed throughout 70, s) loved it!

Agree0 Disagree0

Thread of the day. Especially away from the final 48hrs transfer deadline. I'm 37, I remember going clubbing in an AC Milan shirt 1990 (I think) with Mediolanum sponsor. Thought I was the dogs kajangas in it. There was a couple of years late 80's or early 90's when it was very cool to wear football shirts (especially Italian ones) clubbing.
Mind you bum bags and troop trainers were also groovy. When they come back in ( and I think it may be sooner than I think) I will blow the dust off.

Agree0 Disagree0

77 white away defo had 3 black stripes not 4. Don't remember Adidas doing it anyway. Before that as well I liked the yellow and blue one.

Agree0 Disagree0

Supasub, love this thread too. Could go on all evening. Maybe after transfer window is over we should do a new thread on favourite 80's things? So much to talk about.

Agree0 Disagree0

Brendan81 I agree.

Supasub I have that Italy shirt #10 signed by r. Baggio. It's awesome.

Sydney!

"BR isn't even the best manager in Liverpool".
Not being biased but although I don't he's the best in the PL, hes.certainly superior to martinez. Tactics and play demolished everton on tuesday.
Last September " united are 3, 4 players from dominating Europe"
"liverpool will finish atleast 25 points behind United". your own quotes, your entitled to your opinion syd as they hold a wealth of knowledge

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I still believe MU are 3-4 top players away from being where we need to be.

Agree0 Disagree0

Did Syd say that about Liverpool, nobody has ever mentioned it before. Yawn!

Got another bite Syd well done!

Agree0 Disagree0

GDS, to be fair my prediction about Liverpool this season was well off. My previous three years were spot on though. I never envisaged MU struggling this much in SAF's absence. I have no doubt that we would be well ahead if he was still here. MU players just haven't dealt with the transition well at all.

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Jan 2014 14:21:09
Im a liverpool fan, BR is a talented young manager because he has a style of play in mind. Relegation teams, for managers its about tactics more than free flowing football, i.e westham at chelsea. The game imo is evolving more.towards technique and good football. Look at stoke, huges was brought in to improve stokes style and Southampton play some great high.pressing attacking football. Man city had great attacking.players last season but werr subdued by mancini now look at the amount of goals they score. Tbh i. Thought united would seek a kloop and improve their.play. You can have great attacking players but you need a managet to have a style of play to make the most out of their potential

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I'm a liverpool fan too, and I actually disagree with you. I think Moyes has been working hard to try and instil a 'good' style of football with some pretty poor players.

SAF achieved miracles, that's why he's widely regarded as the best manager ever in England. So comparing Moyes to him is unfair.

I would say that if Moyes had spent a bit more in the summer, flushed a few of the lesser players out and brought some fresh ones in, I think we'd be looking at a completely different league table right now. Having said that, the Mata signing will definitely improve Utd.

So In summary, I believe Moyes has been trying to play attractive football but he's been very restricted due to a few of his players. I think we'll still see United in the champions league next season.

Agree0 Disagree0

It's simply far too early to judge. You can only judge a manager on his last season. And it wasn't a great season for BR last season. 7th with no silverware. There are many managers in all the leagues that want to implement a certain way of playing football. It's what trophies they win that ultimately defines how good they are. If BR finishes outside the top four again this season and gets the sack, takes over at Swansea again, will he still be regarded as a top manager by some? Football is a fickle game and it's simply too early for people to say.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry fellow red but you need to read that again, sir alex was.never mentioned and I never discussed moyes, that's another topic for another day.

Agree0 Disagree0

Bizarre!

Anyone know of any realistic late signings before tomorrow? Is Kroos likely to be on?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I don't see anything significant happening before the window closes. Hope I'm wrong, but don't think I will be, unfortunately. Think a bit of groundwork has been done for summer though.

Agree0 Disagree0

From what Ed002 has mentioned previously, Garay and/or Lucho Gonzalez are the most likely potential arrivals.

Agree0 Disagree0

Erm hasn't lucho already moved? I hope we aren't moving for him, he would make carrick look like usain bolt. Maybe you mean Fernando?

Agree0 Disagree0

Here's my 2 cents worth on the whole shinanigans. I don't feel we can make top 4 without more signings! Beating Liverpool to 4th is now our objective now as we. Are kidding ourselves if we think we can challenge PR even finis above arsenal, city or chelseal. Their managers have just given themselves enough or a gap to not have to worry about us.

Who we need?

We as we all know are desperate for a cm and for Me the most likely is ktoos!

IMO if we could have bright coentrao in it would have happened by now and should have done as Luke Shaw was always going to go to Chelsea.

If neither of them come in I think that's us Don until the summer.

Agree0 Disagree0

Appologies, I meant Otamendi.

Agree0 Disagree0

I believe If we have a healthy front line for the run in we will finish top 4.

Don't be fooled by Liverpool's result over the weekend as it was more to do with Everton's amateur our set up and handing them the match on a platter than them being out of this world.

Iced in in Atlanta! Can't get to work, so filling the time with speculation and aneurysm inducing fretting about the transfer window. So I'm looking for a few distractions.

Yesterday I suggested Brendan Rodgers was the best manager in the EPL at the moment. This proposition was not met with unanimous approval! I'd be interested in hearing who y'all would give that tribute to, if not him. And also on what criteria you are basing your judgement.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

How can a manager be "the best manager at the moment", that is a ridiculous statement. Do you really need anyone to explain why?

Agree0 Disagree0

Well, on medals and accolades alone their is only Mourinho by some distance.

Agree0 Disagree0

WHAT HAS HE WON?NOTHING.
WHATS HE going to WIN? NOTHING.

Not that good.If he didn't have Suarez, they would be nowhere near fourth.

Agree0 Disagree0

I would love to know what you are basing your judgement on? The fact they are in 4th place? (three teams doing better than them). Or the way he has wasted money on Aspas, Alberto, Moses, Assaidi, Illori, Cissokho, Borini & Allen? Or is it that he cannot keep his trap shut for more than five minutes, moaning about his employers? Is it that they are playing good football? Because Pellegrini's City are playing better football, Wenger's Arsenal are playing better. So yes, please humour us? Why is BR the best EPL manager "at the moment".

Agree0 Disagree0

My view will not be a popular one, but for me it is Arsene Wenger. He has always got his teams playing the right way, regardless of personnel. Is a master of helping upcoming youngsters realizing their potential. If he had some financial backing from the frugal Arsenal board, they would have been better. He is a decent man manager as well. (Fabregas/Father). Brendan is not fit to tie his laces.

Deeps.

Agree0 Disagree0

Intuitively it would be Pellegrini but there are much harder teams to manage and coach than City. Right now? I'd say Mourinho, Wenger and Martinez.

Agree0 Disagree0

Good question I would say BR is up there to be honest.
Jose for me is the stand out manager in the league Southampton manager has done a great job and city are playing some great football .

Agree0 Disagree0

Pardew. simply for calling Pellegrini a f*****g old c**t!;)

Agree0 Disagree0

Forgot about Martinez I think he has the potential to be a top manager .
On a side note who would people choose between moyes and Rodgers and why

Agree0 Disagree0

Deeps, AW is doing well, but for me Pellegrini has taken City to another level. Very good manager. Jose is of course a very good manager, AW is a very good manager, Martinez have Everton playing exceptionally well although injuries have affected them recently. BR is doing an okay job at Liverpool, many pool fans still not 100% convinced. I find Peashooter's post very odd indeed.

Agree0 Disagree0

Mourinho or Wenger by far for me. I'm not sure who I would pick out of the two, both are proven winners. Ask me in again in a few years and I hope to say Moyes

Agree0 Disagree0

There are polite ways to disagree with someone - do please try to use them. That being said:

We will see how Rodgers's time at Liverpool turns out, but I would say this:

1. Mourinho and Pellegrini both took on teams with apparently limitless budgets, which tends to obscure their abilities. If I had to choose between these two I'd go for Pellegrini.
2. Wenger would be right up there in my book. His teams always play great football to watch, but they haven't won a single trophy in 8 years, and that's got to be something of an indictment.
3. Martinez remains to be seen. He inherited a good team from Moyes but if they finish 7th, would you say he was a great manager? He may have won the League Cup with Wigan but he also managed to get them relegated
4. Despite some of the less successful purchases, Rodgers has signed Coutinho, Sturridge, Mignolet and Sakho who all look good, and none cost more than 15m. He also did an excellent job with Swansea, which Laudrup (whose praises are sung by many) has hardly improved. So, on a relatively limited budget he's got a team playing some exciting and incisive football.

Based on the starting point, I still think you can make a very good case for Rodgers - and I can see no problem with the term "at the moment" because managers come and go and careers go through ups and downs. 10 years ago obviously one would have said Wenger or Ferguson.

Agree0 Disagree0

For one, it depends what you base your judgement on. Is it the style of football, the continuity, the success, the tactical ability, the ability to rebuild a team?

three managers stand out, Arsene Wenger, a visionary, makes his team play an entertaining brand of football and is capable of rebuilding teams and provide continuity. His tactical abilities are quite limited for a manager of his quality, and he's not much of a winner, especially for the last 8 years.

Mourinho is a winner on the other hand, the smartest manager in the league. He knows tactics, and he can use them, and no one comes close in that department. He doesn't play good football all the time, but when he does, his teams are unstoppable ( Madrid 2011-2012 ).

Pellegrini has both. He's a bit of a mix between Wenger's vision and Mourinho's tactics, but he's not as good as either in their respective domains.

All in all I'd say Mourinho because of his CV, but the others are not too far

Agree0 Disagree0

Peashooter, you have made 'NO' case for BR. How is signing four good players and wasting millions on others a case for BR being the best EPL manager? How about Pellegrini getting Negredo for just £16m? Cheaper than Joe Allen. Because Moyes has signed Mata, does that make him a better manager?

So far you have given us nothing to back up your argument that BR is the best EPL manager.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sydney, you didn't mention the 37 mill paid for mata'. And all managers have bad buys, the great sir alex bought anderson and.BEBE which is enough to close the arguement. BR is a modern managet trying to play imo the right football even.united fans would agree they would want.their team playing free flowing football.

Agree0 Disagree0

Big Al, I agree with you completely, however this is a discussion on whether or not BR is the best EPL manager at the moment. Which I am sure you would agree, he is not.

Agree0 Disagree0

When I think of BR I think of small man syndrome and full of s---.

Agree0 Disagree0

Arsene Wenger for me is better than Mourinho or Pellegrini who are both good managers.

Neither could manage a team as consistently as Wenger has and kept them in the top 4 with almost no money spent as has Wenger.

I think most forget that these Mourinho, and pellegrini are backed by massive amounts of money already spent talent and continued spending on more talent.

Br has definitely improved liverpool a lot by the style he is preaching and buying players that suit that style. Like everything else he needs more time, more funds to improve his team and then maybe win trophies.

It is very difficult to compete with the likes of chelsea and city with their current spending rate no matter who is Managing them, case and point being chelsea who change managers and keep winning.

Ed002, is it fair to say that MU no longer have an interest in Konoplyanka or that there are more important positions that are in need of strengthening before February and MU will prioritise IE a left-back and central midfielder? Thanks.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - MU is not one of the clubs that has approached Dnipro in the past few days.}

Hey syd, he's ours, a younger faster version of mata, o and 20 million cheaper too, dry your eyes mate.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes i'm sure syd will cry himself to sleep over a player who has no experience of top flight football let alone premier league football, i'm glad we paid extra for someone who can do a job straight away tbh.

Agree0 Disagree0

Well I'm glad everyones happy because I'm pretty sure us lot will take mata

Agree0 Disagree0

Not really like Mata at all lfc. Apparently there are another 2 un-named sides interested. So i'd keep a box of tissues yourself at the ready, for your eyes and not your usual pastime.

Agree0 Disagree0

If he was a younger and faster version of Mata, he wouldn't still be at a sucky team like Dnipro, would he? ;) Maybe good enough for Liverpool, but not good enough to be at a titlewinning team.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeh syd lol, he's signed for Liverpool so now he can officially be classed as the best winger in the world! Remembr Aquinlaini and how good he was gunna be?

Agree0 Disagree0

Haha abit like Salah was yours? If we wanted him do you really think he wouldn't come?

Agree0 Disagree0

Lfc,

Rumours are he is going to Spurs. That would be hilarious!

Agree0 Disagree0

Lfc, thank heavens for you that we signed Mata then. Or we may still have an interest in Konoplyanka and let's be honest, if he had the choice of MU or Liverpool, it wouldn't be a difficult decision for him.

There is a reason why one player costs £37m and the other costs £15m.

Ed Woodward was at the training session this morning. why would Ed be at a training session?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Perhaps looking for a chance to score an Equaliser

I know, I know - its been done to death but there are not many opportunities to use it in a footballing scenario.

Agree0 Disagree0

I know, why isn't he on a plane to Germany to get Kroos, lol.

Agree0 Disagree0

Because he couldn't negotiate his way out of a car park.

So we could see Nani leave in the next couple of days. Fulham have lodged a joint bid for Cole & Tunnicliffe. I think we can safely say Young will stay. Could we see Buttner go out on loan if we sign a LB this month? With Anderson, Fabio and Zaha already gone, I think we have made enough room for two more signings, let's see if we can get them done in time.

ngiak is still disappointed as he seriously believes what he was told almost 3 weeks ago
There should have been 2 signings by now and a third in process
More than a day to go but it's so slow?
ngiak wonders why is the process so slow
He also wonders if the people involved on our side are bungling?
And what happ to the 7 players out?
Can't find buyers?
Or their salaries too high?
1.5 days to go
ngiak may yet be pleasantly surprised

Nani to Inter on loan looking more and more likely. Good riddance. He had his chance and has failed time and time again. Hopefully his departure will lead to us bringing in a cm - either on loan or permanently.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

MU seem eager to offload him Red7, it would save the club £80k a week and we should get a loan fee for him. Perhaps a couple million? Him and Andow would create space for one or two more signings. Fingers crossed.

Agree0 Disagree0

Why is there no talk of young going

Agree0 Disagree0

Who would want him. He cost us £16m a few years ago and so I can't see us letting him go for anything less than £8m. I can't see anyone willing to pay that for a player who has done so poorly over the past few seasons. He may score a belter every now and again - but his general play is poor.

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Jan 2014 11:16:03
As much as some think we won't be making any signings I think Moyes hasn't finished yet, i'm seeing Nani going out on loan then 3 signings being made before deadline,

Any word on Fernando?
News reports are picking up about our interest, but also say Porto may not want to sell this late in the window, and others say City may come in with a double bid for Fernando and Mangala.

I would be thrilled if we got him. Fernando seems to be a very hard working player who can break up play in front of the back four, and he covers a lot of ground. He would give that much more freedom to the quartet we are all hoping to see up front.

Agree0 Disagree0

From getting the Mata deal sorted to completion it took 3 days, we have until tomorrow night, and you think we will get 3?

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't know if city have the money to make a double bid like that, if my memory is correct, mangala is not going to be cheap and they have failed FFP at present, not sure if they have the money to spend at the moment

Agree0 Disagree0

GDS2, I said I hope we get Fernando. Where do you get 3 from?

And Darv, I hope your are right about City, I have to admit the rumour about them has me worried, though I can't see Porto letting them both go now, one would be hard enough to lose.

So rumours has it Toni Kroos isn't happy at bayern & Pep will allow him to leave. With all the issues we've had with medicials this season I think we should be busy closeing the kroos deal round about now so that he can have a medicial before 12 2moro. would reali love 2 see 1 more top player in the Utd midfield. we can get rid of nani aswell could mean more game time for a better player & abit more cash for the summer market. ED please advice as to you think the summer targets might be oviasly including Toni kroos if we don't get him before 2m

Hi ed, don't know if its been covered previously so apologies if it has but is their any interest in Draxler from us? 1 report I saw today was that we were trying to strike a deal at this late stage in the window.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - He is out injured - how would he pass a medical? Realistically Arsenal want a caveated deal now for the summer. I don't see how MU fits in to this at all.}

What is a "caveated" deal?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - They will want any deal to be subject to a medical which he cannot pass now.}

Regarding the injury, the medical team have also said in the report that a schalke doctor has said he is a week away from playing. Regardless of mu being interested does that mean a transfer can still not be completed? Not trying to sound ignorant just curious.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Hence the caveat. This is really hard work today.}

I see you just answered it thanks ed.

Guinness and Tequila? terrible mixture Supasub. More seriously I bit on Kroos too, seems like every player who wants a wage hike say we are in for them. I suppose its like renewing insurance every year I swap and get a better deal than my current provider

Morning guys. Mata has certainly given the fans and the players a lift and let's hope we can go on a bit of a run to challenge Liverpool for fourth spot.
I am not a moyes lover, but Jones coming out with remarks that the players are playing to impress mata is interesting and also annoying. They should be playing to impress the manager and the fans.
Moyes came out a few days ago and said that everyone is on trial and the ones who don't pull their weight will be sold, and the comments that Jones made seem to imply that they weren't really trying 100% so far.
Whatever happens, I'm sure we all hope that they get the kick up the ass they deserve and start playing like champions.
Good luck to moyes, and hope he can do that. Also, please sign a CM now! Thanks!

ed, I know you don't like talking about finances but do you think that the club will use the kit deal and the chevrolet shirt sponsorship to pay off the clubs debt off in full?

if nike were willing to offer 300m back in august, surely the club are expected to receive more now that other companies are also interested, maybe as high as 350-400m. add that to the 357m chevrolet deal and I can not see why not.

now obviously it won't come in in one lump sum, but surely if you were to announce that part of the money from these deals would be used to eradicate the debt with the remainder being invested into the club, then it would have a huge impact, firstly it would improve the atmosphere, silence a few haters (not mentioning any names) and add a sense of security about the club.

importantly it would add confidence to the utd brand, increasing our shares price should they want to sell, but also to reassure those in the club and maybe help bring some new faces in (or at least not giving them a reason to go elsewhere)

anyway ed, do you think this could happen? also who do you think will end up being the new kit sponsor?

dags

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - By paragraph: (a) No. (b) There is a potential for a significant delay going anywhere else. (c) The debt is structured and being managed. Why are you even thinking about this. (d) I really have no idea what you are talking about. (e) No. Nike.}

With 3 manufacturers reportedly bidding Money aside who would you guys like to be our new kit brand? Bearing in mind we have had some dire kits lately, I would like to go back to addidas, they seem to produce nicer kits and they would probably release all the retro shirts aswell

Agree0 Disagree0

I think most of our best kits from the modern era were made by Umbro. I tend to agree with you about some of the Nike kits not being the best, but I'm sure the club has a major say in shirt design too. Having said that, I think Nike are nailed on to continue as our kit supplier.
I feel a debate coming on about favourite United shirts :-)

I know I seem to be clutching at straws here but the general director at Juventus has talked up their interest in Osvaldo from Southampton, but has stated that they need to sell before they could buy. This would most likely mean Vucinic but he then went on to sayvthat he would only sell him if he asked to leave. Ahem Vidal. Ahem

Watching City and Liverpool's demolition of Spurs and Everton this week, one realizes just how far we have to go to match their creativity and pace. Personally I think Brendan Rodgers is the best manager in the EPL, and with Sturridge and Suarez he has as good a strike force as any team out there. While 4th place is not yet lost we will have to play beyond ourselves to achieve it.

As one of the Eds bemoaned after the victory over Cardiff, our defense sit back so deep that it puts too much pressure on the midfield and generally adds to the disjointed nature of our play. This tendency is not one that just started this year, so you can't really blame Moyes. It's another part of his inheritance and if we don't fix it, it becomes even harder to see us pipping Liverpool, or winning many of our key remaining games.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

"I think Brendan Rodgers is the best manager in the EPL".

Really? Big statement to make.
Take their two forwards out for the length of time ours have been out and see what results he can produce. Without them two he would really struggle. and he better get used to it when Suarez packs his bags in the summer when RM / Barca come calling.

Agree0 Disagree0

Red

While I don't agree with the statement about BR but we struggled as well without Rooney and RVP. No obe can deny that Sturridge and Suarez are the best duo right now and Liverpool is playing much better than us.

In order to get the 4th spot we'll have to play the best football we can.

Agree0 Disagree0

Nick. How about a certain one or two at City?

Read a year old article a minute ago that was very interesting and a good read.

Uwe Rosler (current wigan manager) was saying how England need to copy the way that Spain and Germany have their youth teams in lower competitive leagues rather than in a separate reserve league.

Sorry for the copy and paste of this bit.

"'Here we are having development games, there the second team are playing competitive football in the third highest league. They can't go higher than that league, and they have to reach it, but it is a good way to develop under competitive conditions. Here the development games mean nothing.'

Rosler added: 'I love to work in England and the Premier League is a fantastic product. There is a non-stop development of good players, but what is happening is that at 18, 19, 20 too many players are getting lost. (Clubs should) only go for the top foreign players and not the average ones who are blocking places."

Personally I couldn't agree more.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Isnt there rule in the bpl that stops them from training more? I think I remember SAF saying something about it some years ago?
