"The scapegoat for a 2-1 win? Is that even possible?"
GDS

maybe scapegoat was the wrong word, but they're definitely being lined up as the next players to blame for when things go wrong.

If everyone came on here every time we won and said 'great result, all 14 who played were 10 out of 10' it would be quite boring mate.

I think most fans realise the quality of DDG, he is one of the best young keepers in the world and is learning on the job with a different centre half pairing in front of him each week.

Rvp has not been in great form for a while but even when not playing well he still scores more than a goal every 2 games, and he looks to me like he's coming into a bit of form now.

You may like him, you may hate him. You may agree with him or you may not, but there is no denying that this page isen't the same without Sydney! posting. Or may be we are just so used to Syd's views/fact. I have been refreshing this page at intervals checking if Syd has posted or not. I hope he is fine and posts rather soon. Syderman, wherever you are, show up!

Deeps.

Believable8 Unbelievable2

I hope something hasn't happened to him

Exactly my thoughts yesterday, PMF, Syd is missed!

That international break couldn't have come at a better time for us.

If we get 3 points vs Everton our players then get 2 weeks to recover.

Hopefully majority of our injured players would be back by then.

Believable3 Unbelievable0

Normally hate international breaks but it really could be a blessing in disguise. We could have Evans, Jones, Carrick and one or two others back fit. Jones for me is the big one as I think he will end up being our best defender. Concerning about Herrera though.

This blessing in disguise comments are increasing. Shows how much trust one is putting into the team and young guns.
Remember guys. Champions shows resilience. And determination.
Champions don't look for excuses. They don't be happy about not playing because there are injury crisies .

Agree2 Disagree3

Rodio I wish "hoping our team will win" would realistically translate into "our team won".

Until that happens let's be practical and admit that the international break has come as a blessing in disguise as it allows our injured players to recover.

Champions are who they are because they take full advantage of every opportunity that comes their way and if we get breaks and take full advantage of them then we are on the right path.

Herrera has broke a rib

Believable0 Unbelievable0

So sad to hear, hope he recovers quickly. If only there was a youngster in the Academy ready to step in as the young defenders have

Agree0 Disagree0

Its a shame. Imo he was our best player in the last three matches.

Agree4 Disagree0

I wonder how long he will be out for. I can see Pereira getting some game time in his place - but I think Januzaj will step in there.

If it's a broken rib as opposed to a bruised rib it will be a little while unfortunately.

It's a real shame as the lad has been one of the plus points this season.

I Think Periera will get game time because of this.

Ander Herrera - fractured rib :( This is terrible, Shahram and me propose to go on a 6 week hunger strike! What is with United and injuries!?

Deeps.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

We don't seem to be getting much luck with injuries at the moment.
Bad news for Herrera, hope he recovers quickly.

Bring back Paul Scholes.

Agree2 Disagree0

I would want us to do the same thing we are doing for the defensive injury crisis. Call up the youth. Instead of sticking Anderson or Fletcher in there, call up harrop, pearson or someone else who may step up. Maybe someone who follows the academy can tell more.

Agree1 Disagree0

IMBS - Harrop was injured in our U21 game vs Tottenham :( . To add to that, Wilson limped off as well. This is doing my head in. I would fast track Perreira into the team.

Deeps.

Agree2 Disagree0

Deeps

What about Pearson?

Agree0 Disagree0

IMBS - Pearson has been among my favourites. This year though, Harrop has been better and Perreira has that X factor going for him. Warren Joyce has been trying to work on Ben's defensive side of the game. Tenacious little character and works like a Duracell bunny. A loan move would do him well, he should be there or there abouts within the next 2 seasons. At this moment though, I think LVG rates Andreas very highly.

Deeps.

P.S - He is actually a brilliant passer

Agree0 Disagree0

Following the recent Lvg approach toothed defensive issue I expect to see 2 of the U21s brought into the first team squad (maybe pereira and Pearson) with one of both given a chance in the next couple of games.
Similar scenario to when Fergie was in charge but he unfortunately he did not and off to juventus he went.

Brad. If you knew a player was already off well before an opportunity arose to "give them a chance" would you give them the start or someone else? I know what I would do.

Any reason why Nick Powell, Tom Lawrence haven't featured for Leicester?

Also is there a buy-back clause in Lawrence's transfer?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I sincerely hope Lawrence has one, I was surprised he was let go. Giggs showed a lot of faith in him during the end of last season.

What does everyone make of the Coleman rumours that are going round? Would he be good enough for us or would he struggle when making the step up like many seem to do?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Coleman is MUSTARD . hopefully, if fit, we shall form our own opinions this weekend.

Agree2 Disagree0

I think he is great going forward but I am not impressed with his defensive abilities. As things stand, we are already good going forward. Perhaps an ideal wing back.

Rather keep Rafael and see how Janko develops, we have other areas to fill first and if Rafael is still not made the step up in two years time then we can look for a new right back next year or the 2016 season.

What do people make of these potential mid week friendlies?

Personally aslong as they have LvG's blessing then I don't have a problem with them as long as they aren't too far abroad as the travelling could become an issue.

As we have no european games this season and we are now out of the league cup that mean we have 32 league games left and however many we get in the FA cup. So maybe 40 games there or there abouts. A few more games to give some of the squad players a run out and try a few different tactics LvG might like to try out could be a good thing.

The only down side could be injuries or fatigue if the team had to travel to somewhere like america or asia.

So what does everyone else think?

Believable3 Unbelievable1

If players start getting injured then they can't happen.

Agree3 Disagree0

If the manager is on board then it is a no brainer. It should speed up the cohesiveness of the team and help give some of our fringe/youth players a chance to impress with a bit more pressure.

I agree with you Shappy that it will be difficult getting this right with fatigue, because the commercial aspect to this will be us travelling and not entertaining teams at Old Trafford.

It will also help with us being in Europe again next season, players not getting too used to going a week without travelling.

The benefits outweigh the negatives for me, but obviously there needs to be more details. Flying to China/Thailand/Korea would be ridiculous for example.

Agree1 Disagree1

Should also add it will be perfect for bonding on these types of trips with so many new faces coming in and youth coming through it can only help.

Agree1 Disagree0

Completely undermines the u21 league, I think it's stupid. We should be focusing on Saturdays game through the week, not building our image, we are a football club first and formost and the results should come first, I think we're losing that.

Agree2 Disagree0

30 Sep 2014 14:28:39
Anon, how does playing a friendly undermine the under 21 league?

Surely by giving some of our youngsters play with some of the senior players will be good for their development and for their intergration into the first team.

Secondly these games will be a chance for players such as Fletcher, Anderson, Valencia and Young ect to hve a run out and keep some match sharpness incase we need to call on them. Unless you'd rather these squad players play in the under 21's thus taking games away from our youngsters.

Also how does a mid week friendly distract from our league games? Surely it would be seen as a chance to try out different tactics we may want to use on the weekend game.

Agree1 Disagree0

I think friendlies are a waste of time, look at the international ones.
I though the one advantage of not being in the CL was that we would play less games and concentrate on the league.
For me it would be money orientated .

Agree1 Disagree0

Terrible idea. Agree with Anon, totally undermines the u21s. It's only purpose is to generate cash. The squad us half crippled as it is playing the minimum requirement. Everyone hates friendlies anyway.

Agree0 Disagree0

It takes money to make money nowadays and if we can give youth and fringe players more experience and improve the cohesiveness of the team as we do it then great.

We have to pay for all these wonder buys somehow and as we need yet more strengthening it makes sense only if LVG thinks it will benefit us football wise of course. Only if its a win win should it be done.

Agree0 Disagree0

I personally do not see the point. If it is for this season only then most big teams will be in European competition and will not want to play. Therefore it will no doubt be journeys to the States and it will all be about the money.
We should be putting all our efforts into securing at least UEFA cup qualification for next season; hopefully Champions League.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - That isn't the immediate plan but there maybe something done with Chevrolet or AON but there are few if money spinners in the United States - and I am aware of discussions the saw a major midweek constraint. More likely a money spinner against a Far East, possibly Japanese or Chinese team - possibly hosted in Dubai, UAE or Qatar or somewhere similar. Kaizer Chiefs from South Africa Club America in Mexico meets the demographic. Santos, Corinthians and Boca might be other considerations - but practicalities outside of South America might be an issue. An absolute outside option that will likely not work will be a post Christmas EPL game moved from a weekend to midweek to accommodate a weekend trip. It was raised but is not seen as viable.}

I think it will be great for the team as the more game time for them, the more chemistry they build and get to know each others mentality on the field

Can anyone tell me why none of the 3pm Saturday games are televised?

One of the great things about living in the US is that since NBC took over the TV rights every single premier league game is shown live.

My wife and I have become soccerholics, unable to go away for a weekend during the season!!!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Pea, rightly or wrongly there is a view that if the games were on live, fans wouldn't go and watch their local team but would sit in front of the telly watching a 'big' game

Agree5 Disagree0

It's a rule by the league to supposedly encourage fans to go to games thinking if televised fans would miss a United game to watch liverpool (Comedic value)

Agree1 Disagree0

I've got cable in Portugal, and I can watch one or two 3pm matches every Saturday.

Agree1 Disagree0

Setanta show a 3pm game on a Saturday do you get setanta in England? If not bad times move to Ireland 😊

i see DDG and RVP have taken Welbeck and Cleverley's spot as the next scape goats.

Believable4 Unbelievable1

Do we need a scape goat i think we are playing quite well

Agree5 Disagree2

30 Sep 2014 08:14:19
Really? I thought the debate on DDG was particularly balanced with nobody just slagging him off. If we can't debate things on here it would be a boring site. Don't see it as scapegoat at all, and when he plays well I will be the first to praise him.

Agree1 Disagree0

Agreed jred. let's get behind the team and give them our support. The way they played when rooney got sent off showed a lot of spirit.

Agree2 Disagree0

I don't think anyone is a scapegoat right now. We all seem to be pretty understanding that the defence is struggling through injury and quality.

People here always find something to complain about.

In England for a couple of weeks and managed to get to the game against West Ham. When the Hammers scored their offside goal, two of their supporters, who had obviously managed to purchase a couple of United season tickets, jumped in the air. A 60yr old+ United fan, no doubt overcome by the tension of the game, turned around, slagged them off and stood over them in a threatening manner. Another fan a couple of rows away joined in the diatribe. The potentially violent confrontation lasted a full 30 seconds or so but fortunately the West Ham supporters chose to defuse the situation by remaining in their seats, perhaps partially in disappointment with the refs decision.

I reference this to an occasion a couple of years ago when a friend took me to an Arsenal United game at the Emirates which we won 2-1. When we scored our first I too jumped in the air, but there was no negative reaction from the Gooner fans around me. That pathetic old man made me feel just a little bit embarrassed to be a United supporter.

I agree.

Sometimes fans take their teams way too seriously.

Agree0 Disagree0

Shame when this happens. Every club has its persons, probably had a lot to do with the relief the thugs were experiencing at the goal being disallowed, (some people have to resort to cave man behaviour when they feel pressure).

Agree0 Disagree0

You need to try jumping up at some other grounds in the home fan sections, i can assure you wouldn't get that same reaction and would probably end up in a&e trust me I've been there.
