I'm not going to go on a angry rampage like some people have here tonight, but I do feel we have made a mistake in not getting a central midfielder. People may wonder why we haven't signed one, whether it's lack of funds or not, but I feel it is down to Fergie being too stubborn in the transfer market.
For a while now, he has insisted that there is no 'value' in the market. Well, that is just not true. What about 2009? We got £80million for Ronaldo, and Fergie insisted that there was no value in the market, refusing to go £6million higher for Benzema.
People may wonder why we didn't go for Sneijder in 2009. Well, it's simple really. Fergie didn't want to give £15million back to Madrid when he got £80million a few weeks earlier. I said last night that United badly missed out on two players this summer. Nuri Sahin and Arturo Vidal. Both cheap and both top class. What about Steven Defour or Axel Witsel. There were options out there, and in my opinion, we have made a mistake.
I have faith in Pogba, Cleverley, Anderson, Morrison and Tunnicliffe, but they aren't ready yet. They are very talented, but it will take time for them to cme through. Any one of Sneijder, Modric, Vidal, Sahin or even Defour would've kept the midfield strong until these youngsters came through.
We shall see next May, who was right!

If I was a Utd fan I would be relatively disappointed.
Young, Jones and De Gea are all top quality players, Young right now and De Gea and Jones going to be close to best in their positions in the future.
The gap definitely has not been closed on Barcelona, and the splurge of ** that Mr Gill has fed to fans with regard to a big summer window is an appalling way to treat fans of the very club he works for.
In terms of the signings, 3 very good players in, in my opinion a CM still needed, but the lies from Gill have been sickening to witness.

wtf, absolutely devestated, 30 days of looking to see if sneijder has signed and then today ssn say theyve got something interesting news for mu fans ending with nothing. Gutted. Really think that if we made a least one decent attacking midfield signing we would of given Barca at the least a better game if we met them this season. If we make the cl final and face them, we are gonna be laughed off the park again. the 3 signings we made are great signings but we lost 9 players and signed 3, and didn't strengthen what was a very poor midfield last season. We will do well in all competitions this season thanks to our brilliant defence and attack, but put us up against a proper midfield and we're in trouble.
I trust SAF but I have to ask why he didn't sign a proper midfielder? Compare who we have now to Barcelona's midfield. And what if we get injuries to 2 of them?

Wow, anybody would think it was the end of the world according to the negative tripe posted on here! i'm extremely optimistic about our chances in the forthcoming months and am genuinely enthused at the prospect of watching our youngsters develop into the next great united team. I think this team is easily going to be as good as the '99 crop, albeit the central midfield seems weaker than the scholes/keane partnership, but i would forgo those fears by suggesting that we are much stronger in other areas of the pitch...chin up boys, the future is bright! stop the damn complaining! :o)

Oh well no WS, no Mods, no Goetze, no CM'r at all.
To say I'm dissappointed is a bit of an understatement but after getting in from work and nothing was on for us I kind of knew that was it.
Its such a pity that the area we all know is weakest has still gone untouched. Well one thing I am not looking forward to this year is IF we again fail to control games away from home will be the constant need to nit pick and blame who we have playing in CM when we all know we could/should of done something about it now.
I will support any team we put out and I will also reserve my right to put my opinions over on players playing good or bad but I'm slightly sceptical about having all our eggs in the basket with Clev. He has played well so far with Ando but with Ando's injury record we can hardly just hope he stays fit. Also I cant see how without playing those 2 together that we can see the same dynamism we have seen so far. Carrick, Fletch, Park, Giggs don't play with the same speed we have seen and been praising so far so will be interesting to see how that slower CM play will effect the impact of the team as a whole.
Quite possible thats why Berba was kept so we can change between fast and slower playing teams?
Overall Im happy with who we have got in but not happy at the lack of a CM'r of any form.

Well there it is. The end of the window. Arsenal have lost a few, signed a few. Arteta was a must for them. Chelsea have strengthened very well. Meireles will give them good depth, while Liverpool and City have signed a couple of players who are past their peak and have dodgy knees. In the meantime we made a few very solid signings but couldnt quite secure that "marquee" player. Regardless of whether we are pleased or not, its done now so lets get behind the boys we have. Young boys that have scored 13 goals in 3 league games. Is there a risk that injuries will catch us out? Perhaps. But its the squad we have and dont forget that we had a similar size squad in 99 when we brought home 3 trophies.

I told you all after the De Gea signing that nobody else was coming in and guess what? I was right.
No players needed. We have a young, exciting team, 2 of the best wingers in the league, a playmaker just as good as, if not better than Sneijder in Wayne Rooney, a young striker hungry for goals in Welbeck, strong cover for every position, what else do we actually need.
Save the money not spent this window and if tweaks are needed in January bring in whoever is needed.
Summer next year bring in a Striker to replace Berbatov, and a couple of young players to add even more depth to the squad.
Exciting times ahead.

I'm confused, at the start of the summer both David Gill and SAF said that this would be a busy summer for business for Utd.
I dont mean to be rude, but 3 signings isn't busy. What happens if we get any major injuries?

I'm really disgusted with Gill, the Glazers and even Fergie at this stage. So much for the busy Summer of transfer activity. Jones, Young and hopefully De Gea are good signings and should help us domestically as we fight City, Chelsea and possibly others for the title but in my opinion we are now even further away from barca than we were in May. They've brought through Thiago and added proven quality in Fabregas and Sanchez. We are an excellent team but our centre-midfield will struggle against the top teams in England and Spain. All of us can see we needed a world class midfielder like WS to bring us closer to the likes of Barca. Javi Martinez or Modric, though completely different types of players would also have been good signings. Instead we have added nothing to our weakest position (except the promising cleverly's return) whilst losing scholes and hargreaves. Disappointed does not even get close to describing how i feel. The lack of a quality midfield signing signals a lack of ambition on behalf of the club. Thanks Glazers!

It's been a disappointing day in my opinion, but I've accepted it now. Seriously let-down though, bigtime. Yet another window without our midfield signing we've been crying out for. So much for there being a healthy cash reserve to replace Scholes when he retired - bare-faced lie! But what can we do? Have to get behind the team and pray that Cleverly or Anderson don't get injured long-term or our midfield (centrally) is back to lacking in bite, creativity and enthusiasm.

I have to say as a massive United fan I am a little disappointed in our lack of a big signing as promised by David Gill.
Sure the 3 new signings will prove to be excellent in the future but I can't see Pep Guadiola losing too much sleep.
I really thought that we would bolster our midfield this window but yet again the big money stays in the Glazers pocket and we still havn't spent all of CR's money from last season.
Will we ever buy big players again all the time the Glazers are in control I'm starting to doubt.

I am so disappointed with this transfer window, happy with the signings weve made but we need a cm and it doesn't look like its gonna happen. All the names we was linked with Sneijder, Modric, Nasri, Gotze, Ganso and we ended up with a midfield pairing of Anderson and Cleverley to carry us forward. Im not saying that these two guys arnt good players but we are expecting too much from them, Anderson always looks good in some games but then others he's not so good and to me Cleverley hasnt played that well really up to now, he's just been alright. We needed Sneijder and they have really let the fans down by not getting him.

Well i'm disappointed but not surprised.
Disappointed we haven't shifted our spare goalkeeper or Gibson. I presume they either leave for next to nothing in january or next summer on free's?
Disappointed we didn't move Berbatov on either, but then we would have needed a replacement and lets face it he may yet prove useful.
Disappointed we never signed a midfielder but guess wages were too much of an obstacle. Would have liked an extra body but o well.
First and foremost lets support the team and try not to disrupt the lads.
But also lets let the Glazers know our feelings.

we need them 2 replace ASAP otherwise city are gonna kill us
we need another winger hernadez looks a bit shy he is excellent but come1 we need a good reserve for him or the other way around
we need to lose forget about: berbatov . gibson fletcher owen park and a few more this guys are slowing the pace in the team's attack going forword

Just to clear this up, hargreves is a free agent he can sign for anyone who is foolish enough. Personally happy because it will use up another place in citys squad. He is a total mug in my opinion now. Just look at those video on youtube. City just do what ever they can to get a rise, bet the 'welcome to manchester' poster will come soon. we can rest easy though. with the arab world in tatters it will not be long before their little project goes bad. Unlike united they dont generate a sustainable income to support their massive wage structure, I have the champers on ice for the day when all this money dries up for them. Love this site, full of banter and finger pointing when things are proved incorrect.
I would love to see someone of WS quality come in. Although Ando and Cleverley have played well so far they have not come up against a great midfield. As usual though you have to trust fergie, he has rebuilt time and time again and I'm sure he knows exactly what he needs. Maybe sometimes a big name isn't the way to go, I remember when Veron was announced I though the league was a foregone conclusion but not to be. So if fergie doesn't think we need WS or anyone else then so be it.
