How on earth has Syd managed to contain himself over Pogba. Not seen a post from him after then end of the match. Ed, is he tuggin one off over MOTD? {Ed001's Note - he is still running round the house screaming with excitement! Good to see the lad get a game, it is what he wants and he has shown he deserves it.}

New United signing Veseli is currently a CB, but has joined up with the reserves to play as a defensive midfielder. Something we haven't got in the reserves.

I think the past 24hrs sums up football fans!
United not signing anyone, stories that the kids aren't getting contracts, losing our best young talent to west ham, SAF sticking with the old guard!
Now, equal with City, Scholes was class tonight, Pogba plays, Gibson scores!

Football, Bloody hell!

Have to give it to you boys. You could be the worse team/squad ever, to win the PL. Don't get carried away just yet, when City get their players back they could pull away. Also Spurs are not out of it yet but will be, if we beat them next week. Just like we stuffed you, remember?

Nice to see Pogba get some playing time tonight, by all accounts done well, think SAF might give him more time on pitch to persuade him to stay, I hope so, any more info ed on his contract situation, one player I dont want to leave, Cheers Ed

Well i'm very happy with the way we played tonight, then when you look at the injuries we've currently got then you start to think maybe Sir Alex has a point about our squad being good enough until the summer. We totally controlled that game tonight but just missed that cutting edge to totally bury them. Imagin how much better we would be with players like Rooney Nani Cleverley Anderson Welbeck Young all going forward and Jones and Vidic keeping us tight at the back as well. I was very Happy to see Pogba come on and do really well, some great touches a few little skills and some great passes/crosses he looked so assured and ready for more games at this level, it might be a different thing though if we were struggling but he can only play the game as it comes. Hopefully now people who haven't seen him play can see what the fuss is about, also i wouldn't be suprised if it comes out he's signed a new contract in the coming days.

It's a good night to be a United fan even if we didn't sign anyone in january, but then again who signed anyone worth while?

Great performance tonight. Stoke were never in it and both of the penalties were superb. Amos also looked good in goal and Pogba played excellently when he came on. Could have had a third penalty to round it all off but good night nonetheless.

Darron Gibson - enough said!

As for us great result even if we were alittle short in their third - what a difference having berba behind the striker did for us today, no I won't mention my post saying how effective we would have been with him their against pool. great cameo by pogba, lots of nice touches, good movement, one great tackle(although no danger) and a few quality crosses. Can not wait to see the boy get a few more games under his belt.

Not a bad 1st half, 72% possession and controlled the game although still concerns we lack the cutting edge, needed a penalty to break the deadlock.

Was never in favour of scholesy returning but might a master stroke 2bh, he nearly scored again and he running the midfield again. Also some nice touches/passes from Berbatov :)

Hi all.

With all the doom and gloom over no signings I wanted to sing the praises of a young midfielder at the club who is quietly going about his business and looks potentially like a different class.

Did anyone see our reserves demolish Newcadtle 6-0. Pogba played well in the first half but for me the man who really stood out was Petrucci. Scored 2 and created at least 2 of the others through great vision and passing. Just looks pure class. He was captain and plays in midfield.

Really hope to see him getting some first team action soon.

ed 007 i know your busy but what is a good link for the match? cheers tom17 {Ed007's Note - I can't recommend specific sites, sorry. Try this:

1. Install the browser Google Chrome.

2. Look in the top right (your right) corner and you will see a spanner.

3. Click on the spanner and select 'tools'.

4. Click on extensions

5. At the bottom right (as you look at it) you will see 'Get More Extensions >>'. Select this.

6. In the search box type 'Chrome Live Football' and search.

7. Click on Chrome Live Football and then click on install. (it may download to a holding file in the bottom left as you look at it, in which case as soon as it's finished click there, but mostly it will install itself)

8. A small football will then appear in the top right (as you look at it). Click on that, select 'live stream' and reset the clock to GMT and it will list all the live games available all over europe and other places.

You may occasionally need to install other programmes or the link you pick will only work on Explorer (in which case cut and paste the URL into Explorer), but you will always get every EPL match (or any other). Sometimes you will only be able to find it with foreign commentary and sometimes you will get it in English. You'll get about thirty links and you may have to look through a lot of them to get what you want. You will also get most La Liga matches, Greek matches, Italian matches and French matches as well as top matches from South America.

Someone also asked about viruses etc. Google Chrome is actually far more secure than Internet Explorer so the risks are considerably less, but you should have decent virus/spyware programmes and run sweeps regularly as a matter of course.

The quality will also depend on the speed of your internet connection. If you have super-speed and have a modern HD TV, consider connecting your PC to the TV via the PC socket on the side/ back.

Cut and paste the above into a document and save it for future reference.

Amos; Smalling, Ferdinand, Evans, Evra; Valencia, Carrick, Scholes, Park; Hernandez, Berbatov.
Subs: Kuszczak, Fabio, Rafael, Giggs, Pogba, W Keane, Welbeck

Solid team and about the best we could hope for considering the injuries, Glad to see both Pogba and W.Keane on the bench. Suprised to see Rafael on the bench after his performance on the weekend but the hight of Smalling Ferdinand and Evans is gonna be important against the airal assult we'll get from Stoke. Also Amos could do with abit of protection as Stoke is abit of a Baptism of fire.

The funny thing about a players name is if enough people say it then he becomes a great player who we should sign, like wise if enough people say a player is bad then does he become a bad player?

Mob mentality, were all suckers for it. How many people think Carrick is rubbish but only after hearing others bad mouth him, it's the same as Sneijder being the player who is able to save us just because enough people mention his name.

Take Jordi Alba for instance, he was flavour of the month around November/December, and he seems to have fallen off the radar recently. My point? don't be seduced by the name just because several people have said it.

Now Martin Olsson is a good player but how many of you would take him over Alba? Yet i bet most of you have seen Olsson play more often than Alba i would expect most of you to still say Alba. So lets look at the players.

They are both able to play anywhere down the left hand side, Alba is better going forward but Olsson is much better at defending, Olsson has 72 top flight appearances and 3 goals where as Alba has 58 appearances and 4 goals this backs up that Alba is better going forward but Olsson is the more experianced of the two in top flight football although Olsson is a year older. Also it's important to note that Olsson's experiance has come in the Prem rather than La Liga which means he wouldn't have to adapt to the league if he were to join.
So lets look at value, Alba would cost between 12-15m where as Olsson would cost 5-6m, wage wise Olsson would be on a low wage at Blackburn so we could offer him a sensible wage rise and he'd be happy yo accept it as he'll be getting his chance at a big club where as Alba is already at a big club and seeing as he'd be moving country would want a higher wage than what Olsson would accept.
Then if you were to put money on which one would hang around longest who would you put your money on? The Spanish lad who is likely to get homesick(especially if Barca come knocking) or the Swedish lad who's been here 6 years already and is settled in england.

So in summery Olsson would be cheaper in both fee and wages, is the better defender and is already accostumed to the league and culture and is less likely to want to leave in a few years time. So now who would you rather sign?

Shappy {Ed007's Note - James McCarthy :-)

SAF had a pop at KEANE when we left the CL and Keane said we didn't play well. We didn't, thats why we lost and he was right to say it and SAF was way off mark to have a go at him.

Now SAF is having a pop at Alan Hanson for saying really we haven't been at our best and played well for the last 18mths. Agreed! We haven't.

What matches is SAF watching where he thinks these 2 are wrong and we are playing well.

Please dont quote the fact that we won the PL and got to the CL final etc....we haven't been playing well and the fact that SAF wont acknowledge that and take the deserved criticism probably explains why he aint buying anyone coz he thinks we ARE playing well!

I think he's a legend dont get me wrong but I'm going to stick my neck out here and say I think his stubborness and ego is now costing us big style.

This is the man who throughout his career has stated that his instills in his squad that no 1 player is bigger than the club- trouble is he himself has forgotten that......someone should quote this back to him.

Interesting quotes from SAF regarding Shawcross...

"It always grieves me when I have to release a young player of great potential," Sir Alex wrote in his programme notes for United Review. "And Shawcross certainly fell into that category.

"He had the misfortune - though he perhaps doesn't see it that way considering the success he has had with Stoke - of coming through along with a number of other young defenders.

"This was the era of Gerard Pique and we kept him at Ryan's expense, only I didn't know that Gerard was growing homesick and, soon after, he was telling us he wanted to go back to Spain.

"He has prospered with Barcelona, as we know, and, if I had known he wanted away then, we would have kept Ryan Shawcross."

I don't think alot of people on here quite understand why we're selling Ravel Morisson. To put it in short 'the kid is a complete liability in terms of behaviour, sonner or later he will end up in prison. The lad cannot stay out of trouble'. United have done the right thing here believe me. So much promise, dodgy background. Plus with all the add-ons United could eventually make £3 million out of this!

Another transfer window where we fail to bring in a central midfielder. What is going on at this club from the outside it looks like the worse run club in the country. Luckily this squad is punching well above its weight cos on paper we should not be in the top 4 with our squad.

So many players out there that play for so called lesser sides that would walk into our starting 11. If things do not improve i can seriously see us struggling to compete next season.

Anyone else think it's about time we got rid of Mike Phelan? From the outside he seems to be very much a 'yes man'. @DAVID_JOHNSON7: cause all some people care about is money

He was the asked if this was about Ravel or his agent... to which he replied

@DAVID_JOHNSON7: agent

Seems to me Ravel's agent's demands were the "unrealistic demands" SAF was talking about. If the fees being talked about are right, 650K transfer fee and 1M agents fee, then the agent would have been paid more than Ravel would have been earning a year.

Agents are ruining the game. And perhaps this time Ravels's career.

Heres an interesting question, Now De Gea's main concern before joining us was whether he was ready for a move to a big club which could show a lack of confidence in his own ability, compare that to Szczesny who is the same age and he has total confidence in his ability and was saying he should be No1 at Arsenal as far back as two years ago. This is my big worry, i have total confidence in De Gea's ability but has he got the mental strength to be a top goalkeeper. I wouldn't be suprised if after a year or two here and some tough treatment from the press he would be longing for home(around the time Barca could be looking for a new keeper). So IF that happens who would you want to see come in to replace him from within the Premier league(as foriegn keepers can struggle to adapt). For me it would be Tim Krul hands down.

Why does everyone say valencia is one dimensional. So his main attribute is crossing the ball from the line, i would prefer him doing that and putting everything he has into it, rather than nani doing twenty stepovers and hitting the first man. You need valencia's in your squad.

Do we have alot of money? proberley not, i expect us to spend money in the summer but not a net spend of more than 30m unless we get huge investment in the mean time(stock market floatation?). So where will we spend the little money we have. It's unlikely that we'll sign "big name" players as they want "big name saleries", were more likely to sign good up and coming players who will demand less wages and would be less of a risk and more likely to have a stong resale value. So names like Sneijder Ozil Higuain De Rossi and the likes aren't gonna happen IMO. There won't be a Marquee signing, also i wouldn't expect to see loads of signings, no more than four IMO, Sir Alex likes to keep the nucleus of the side together so as not to distroy the balance of the team. We may see one or two youth players join but not too many so as to block the current youth players. So what do we need?

Well the Goalkeeping department looks set as it is, just Kusczcak moving on leaving us with De Gea, Lindegaard and Amos with Johnstone coming through as forth choice.

Defence is an interesting one, once the injuries clear up we're pretty covered in defence. I feel we need a left back who can challenge Evra(who i don't think will be leaving), but long term i think Fryers will be our left back so we need someone who can do a job now but maybe can play somewhere else so as to not block Fryers. For me the best options are either Yaroslav Rakitskiy as he can cover LB and CB, the only problem is then we may have too many CB's(Smalling, Vidic, Evans, Rio, Jones) so we may have to move Rio on to make room, or Martin Olsson who can play LB or LW. For me Olsson is the best option, he's proven in the prem and would be cheap and as we only need a LB as cover there's no point blowing the budget on one. Plus he can play as a LW and we need a left footed option for LW so he'd be killing two birds with one stone. He'd be competition for Evra and be an option on the wing and then provide competition to Fryers once Evra has gone a season or two later.

Midfield is the big issue. I only see one player coming in here(although we could see a youth player join too as Morrison looks to be off). Now we have Carrick Jones and Pogba who can play the more defensive role in midfield along with Fletcher if he can return, where as we only have Cleverley and Anderson who play the more creative role. I can't see Anderson leaving because of this, but there is no garrentee this injury problems will clear up. Now with Anderson the main problem for why he hasn't reached his potential other than his injuries is be cause he is an AM and he keeps being crowbarred into a CM role of which he isn't quite capable of. So signing another out and out AM would be a daft idea. I think the qualities we should be looking for are Vision, Passing, Movement, ability to keep pocession and decent defensive responsibility. We have no one who can bring similar qualities as Cleverley does if he's injured so we need someone who does. For me the stand out choice is Kevin Strootman, who would be fairly priced, has outstanding Vison passing and Movement, he nearly never gives the ball away and has the physical strength to cope with our league. He is Hollands up and coming midfielder and i think we should try and steal a march on the others and agree a deal with PSV as soon as possible.

Up front we need another option who can lead the line, Welbeck does a great job but it's not Rooney's best position and Hernandez doesn't have the attriubutes to do it. We need someone with strength and a great first touch, someone who plays with their head up and can set up team mate but also clinical when presented with a chance. My choices would be either Andriy Yarmolenko or Ricky Van Wolfswinkel, both have all the attributes needed but Wolfswinkel has proven himself abit more which is why i'd go for him(just).

I think leaving we'll see:
Kusczcak, Wootton, R.Brown?, Rio?, De Laet, James, Norwood, Morrison, Giggs-retire, Scholes-retire, Park?, King, Bebe?, Macheda, Berbatov and Owen.

Bringing in maybe 10-15m tops.

I think we'll see more of youngsters like:
Johnstone, Fryers, M.Keane, Pogba, Brady, Tunnicliffe, Lingard, Petrucci and W.Keane

Although some of them will go out on loan.

On the andresred blog , the thing is it's a view myself and others have been saying for a while,
You can go on about us having money in the bank but there is no point if the glazers aren't going to spend it.

I think the fact that 59 mill in dividends was taken during the plc era , were as 480 mill has been taken out of the club during the glazer tells a story

SAF's loyalty to underachieving & ageing players whilst off loading a genuine talent like Morrison is incredible, so what if Morrison is a horrible ***! he can't half play & he should have been given a chance, he might have thought he had a future then, not a surprise that the rest of that great youth team seem to feel the same.
Were where we are in the league because the standard or the oppostion is poor ( mind you we are only just beating them ) look what has happened when we have come up against half decent quality ie CL.
On the Morrison note Brian Clough said John Robertson was an ***hole, but a magician on the pitch, & that was good enough for him. I didnt think you had to like your players.

Am i alone when i say id like to see Corluka at United?
Tall, Strong, and can play at right back.
Would get him fairly cheap considering he is on his way out of tottenham and has fallen out of favor with Arry.
Syd? Eds?

does anyone else think that selling morrison may have a positive impact on pogbas situation, if reasons why saf sold him are true then pogba could feel he could be dealt with in same manner and thus
more likely to sign a new contract himself?

well he was linked with city, roma, newcastle and barca. He goes to west ham. Anyone else find it a little odd? It'll either make or break him. But if he does make it he might wear a red shirt again one day. Of course if he doesn't make it then...

Does anyone know anything about computer problems? Mine has the De Gea virus - it can't save anything.
