Any idea why the Jorginho deal didn't go through Ed002?

Ed002, I seen we might sign Jorginho before the window closes later. I would be pretty happy if we did. Are there any players likely to leave though?
I see Blind has been linked with Roma, and Fellaini doesn't look like he'll sign a contract extension so maybe he could be off. Have you heard anything? Cheers.

Game was lost in the middle of the park for me, Matic is very poor lately and leaving players in behind him a lot, as for Pogba, what can we say non existent. We need him on the left with a midfield 3 with either Herrera or the wig and Matic, Sanchez in the 10 role and Martial on the right and Lukaku up top.

Sorry mata is often the link between midfield and attack.
Tough decisions for him but I expect a response at the weekend.

That was a tough watch I went in hoping right to the end hoping we could nick 1 and they might collapse but we got well and truly battered.
With the exception of ddg possibly lukaku and sanchez had their worst game of the season.
Obviously with the line up he went to attack and that all went out the window after 10 seconds .
Spurs were st home in a must win game and were up for it and we were beaten and bullied all over the pitch.
Martial had one of his beginner days.
Smalling was obviously drunk.
Jones who somehow normally makes himself look good by recovering from his own mistakes had a shocker.
Matic was Annonaymus
Pogba looked unfit from the begging for some reason
I though sanchez was good but played too deep in last 20 mins
Lukaku was not too bad and was always trying
Jessie not in the game after 20 mins.
Young worst show of season I thought shaw deserved to start
Fellaini obviously hurt.
Mata should have started imo he has been very good lately and is often the glue that moulds the.

Ken,

Like you say, was all lost in the first 10 seconds, Jose must be furious, spurs played very well and were never going to let us back in. Not the end of the world just annoying that we lose another big game, not a habit we want to be in but one we need to sort out quickly.

31 Jan 2018 23:23:32
Yeah i agree gds. Just so unusual to see every player so fast below par I the same game. Lack of leadership lack of urgency lack of technique lack of speed and composure.
I will predict the team now for Seville away. Ddg toni young lindelof Jones herrera matic pogba mata sanchez lukaku.

Tough night that can happen away at spurs atm I suppose.

I honest thought after the 1st 5 min we would go on to win we looked great going forward but still a bit iffy at the back.

Once the 2nd went in we looked dead and proceeded to get worse for the rest of the game.

A very disappointing evening all in all.

Well played spurs though the looked very good .

Not to throw all the players under the bus, but I think none of them turned out for the game last night. I think they either took it lightly, or just didn't recover from the goal that we conceded in the opening seconds.

I really think that Shaw should have started the game, he's looked solid in the last couple of games, and maybe he could have been good last night as well. Matic was a mere bystander, I think he will know that by his standards, this was probably the worst game he has had, in any shirt, let alone United.

As Ken pointed out, Martial looked like he was playing for the very first time at such a level, I'd expected him to make life slightly more difficult for Trippier, but that didn't happen.

Someone had suggested a couple of days back that with the arrival of Sanchez we could have a midfield of three, with Pogba playing slightly on the left and Herrera and Matic through the middle. I think that could have worked today. We could have had a front three of Lingard, Lukaku and Sanchez with the other three in the middle.

On a side note, Alli should have been sent off for the ridiculous tackle, this kind of behaviour and attitude might not be the best thing for him.

From 11 seconds to 7 minutes we looked very good, full of energy and it looked like being a fantastic game of football.

Then we just switched to our typical slow, steady-eddy football. Not sure if it was the players or the manager that did this 180 degree turn in thinking, but it killed the game from our perspective. We offered virtually nothing going forward, manic at the back and plodders in midfield.

Our last 7 league games we have won 3, drew 3 and lost this one. 12 points from 21 available and we have played weakening teams aside from Spurs!

Hardly form that would suggest renewing a managers contract to me. We had a good start to the season (results wise, our play was slow and a grind to watch imo), but we haven't kicked on. Still no relationships on the pitch, a lack of passion and most worryingly a lack of ideas. We didn't lay a finger on Spurs!

If we maintain this form and introduce the CL it makes CL football next year look far from certain. I think we took away a valuable incentive for Jose to perform by extending the deal now. Stupid decision and should have been done in the Summer if it needed to be done.

Also more specifically for this game, we looked like we hadn't got a plan, was Jose spending more time in his agents office than the training ground this week?

Beast,

I’d imagine the team that lost 3-0 at home to Bournemouth tonight rather than away at a tough side should be worrying a bit more about the Top 4. We only have city and Bournemouth left to play from the top 10 away from home, I think we will be comfortably Top 4 to be honest, no need to panic but that’s what happens on here when we lose so no point asking for that.

Rio summed it up perfectly on BT tonight If ever proof were needed that Pogba can't play in a two man midfield against the better teams then it was laid bare in all it's gory horror tonight!

His best performances have undoubtedly come when he's played to the left of a midfield 3! He's a fantastic player and we simply must use him correctly!

I hope this serves as a lesson moving forward for the Champions League!

It was a brave selection which ultimately didn't quite work. I fear Jose may be blind to the Pogba conundrum!

Believable3 Unbelievable0

Spurs exposed where we always suffer put under pressure we have far too many players who cannot cope. Especially the defence Valencia, smalling, jones and young all want too many touches on the ball or just give it away. I appreciate Bailley is injured but 18 months and 3 transfer windows and we still starting with smalling and young at left back. Doesn't matter who we have up top when they don't see the ball.

If ever we needed a player like Roy Keane, this is it. No drive no passion no commitment.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

31 Jan 2018 22:05:53
Wow. Poor Sanchez. That must have brought him back down to earth!

The performance was a continuation of the game against Burnley where we were relying on individualism rather than teamwork, possibly because with few exceptions, no one seems to know what anyone else is doing, resulting in passes going in one direction, while the intended recipient was headed somewhere else. And if your principle strategy is to play forward into the runs of your attackers then the correct weight of ball is an absolute requirement. In this respect Pogba has been appallingly deficient of late.

If it had been 5-0 we could not have complained so woeful were our defenders. Our midfield was completely swamped which would indicate the tactics were all wrong. Maybe shutting up shop would be better at this juncture, even if it does incur the wrath of the fans.

Believable3 Unbelievable0

31 Jan 2018 21:57:36
Worst performance I think I have ever seen for Man Utd. Credit Spurs were up for it tonight. Wow too much to say but can't be bothered to moan about it.

Believable3 Unbelievable0

31 Jan 2018 22:21:25
Our players dissappear in the bigger games. Yes you could pick holes in the way we set up and tactics but our heavy hitters underperform in almost all of those top 6 games.

Martial was in some really dangerous positions tonight and he fluffed hus lines on every occasion.

You feel for Lukaku in games like this when the service is minimal but then his link up play is so bad that you can't feel sorry for him.

I know everyone is jumping on the Lingard band wagon the last couple of months but he is a really poor footballer. He's popped up with some vital goals but watch him for 90 minutes and it's like playing with 10 men.

Pogba again with another big game passing him by. When he's not moaning by throwing his hands in the air when he doesn't get decision it's his lethargic movement.

As for the defence, i could right a whole post on how Smalling isn't cut out for football at this level but i wouldn't waste my time. We honestly could do with a whole back 4 and I dread what state we'd be in if De Gea decides to leave.

The bar is being set really high and we have too many inconsistent passengers in our team. That's not to say we can't reach those lofty heights but there's a lot of work to be done!

01 Feb 2018 01:08:33
I won't hold my breath until we see you again then North East. It doesn't tale a genius to work out that being 2 wins behind us after a six pointer for you suggests that maths isn't your strong point when it comes to how frequently we lose, sorry loose as you say. Very confusing. I am sure you mean lose, a word I would have expected a spurs fan to not only be able to spell but also understand in context to assist in a spelling bee.

For example lose. context please. an astonishing ability to lose by coming third in a two horse race.

I am sure you have some talent. but the above skills and sadly banter are as unfamiliar to you as winning. Perhaps you could try hide and seek. something which you could become a world beater at if you can manage to sneak into your trophy room.

Lots of talk admit Perriera coming back bete to challange for a place.
He is greying veryi littler fame time in valencia and most his appearances have been in his less favoured position.
Appeard in 2 of last 5 games has nor created a chance or made a key pass in any of his last 11 games.
Perhaps he is not doing as well as many thought. He is out of favour there and his lack of game time has to be a concern for us and the player himself. His attitude has been questioned publicly by the coaching staff also.

Agreed Ken. I said few months back that I didn't understand what Pereira does on the pitch or what position he plays in. I'm not a big fan of loan periods. They work every now and then, but in general, they don't.
Pereira is not a winger, nor is he a central midfielder or a holding midfielder. So it is difficult to see where his best position will be.
I don't hold much hope of him making it here.

One of the top strikers in the world, as a football fan I'm looking forward to seeing him the epl.
As disruptive influences go Sanchez carriers a bit of baggage as well, but these highly strung players tend to be fine if They get there own way.

Arsenal have signed an incredible player in Aubameyangadingdong. Goal record is unreal and he is a top 3 striker. But his attitude seems to be an issue and I can’t see Wenger being able to control him when results go awry and he acts out. Needs a tougher manager like a Jose or Sir Alex to keep him in line and get the best out of him as he is quite the maverick. Not sure how he fits in with Lacazette already there but they have some very good attacking options. There problem is defensive midfielder and defence and they won’t improve until they sort that side of the game. Especially against the relegation threatened sides who go compact and direct.

1 week after Pep moan about not having enough money to compete with other clubs, he proceeded to spend 57 mil on Laporte and (probably) 60 mil for Mahrez (both exclude wages and hotel fees) and the media is acting as though Pep is signing 2 players for free.
