Banter please.

Reading everyone's posts about potential starting XI tomorrow & the majority of you have agreed pace & attacking wingers is what we need, which, I agree with.

Welbeck & Valencia seem to be everyone's first choice, but I actually think Januzaj would suit this match in a team were the experience of Giggs will balance Adnan's lack of it.

I'd also like to see Nani come on, although he's massively under achieved in a United shirt, he seems to come alive on Champions League nights.

Thoughts?

PS

Great job Eds, been on this site since last summers transfer window & thoroughly enjoy reading the posts & input from you.

{Ed007's Note - Cheers mate, glad you enjoy it.}

Even though I'm a huge fan of Kagawa, I would keep him on the bench and introduce himself and Hernandez later on around the 65min mark. I think are surprise weapon should be Nani, he destroyed Lahm last time at Old Trafford, and his ability to skin players and shoot from distance could help us score. I'd play Januazaj on the other wing, and have a midfield 3 of carrick, fletcher/jones and Giggs. With Rooney Upfront. Hoping cleverly is no where near the stadium, and even though Welbeck is fast off the ball, he's terrible on the ball.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sulei, I think if there was any chance of Nani starting, then he would have featured against Villa. Unless they are working hard with him behind the scenes and are planning to use him as a shock starter. I think it's unlikely mind.

Agree0 Disagree0

Nani won't start. I'd be extremely surprised. Though, at 0-0 after 60-70 minutes I do think he'd be good to bring on. He can't be match fit to start, hasn't even been in the reserves has he?

The problem with starting Janujaz is his lack of defensive qualities, & with the state of our defence at the moment it is a risk.

Double edged sword really!

Ahhhh at last the love in on the Liverpool and arsenal pages has caused a stir!
THANK YOU Bond and ed25 mates its was fast becoming a weird type of lonely hearts page for football fans lol!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - You're welcome buddy, I couldn't hold my tongue any longer, it's painful having to read that kind of stuff. Their 'friendship' couldn't have been that strong when a couple of Ed's can break it with a few choice words :) I think some of the Arsenal fans felt the same but didn't want to seem like the odd one out by saying anything.}

I am intrigued and will go check it out.:)

Agree0 Disagree0

Chris you are just jealous because nobody loves you, lol.

PS, hope little Jack (Wilshere) is ok mate.

Agree0 Disagree0

When u love yourself as much as I love myself Dags U don't need others telling you that your amazing or loved :)

Little Jack is doing OK thanks mate, the sleepless nights have started already.

Anyways ain't u got to get back to the Gooner page now? I'm sure some1 has posted something along the lines of Arsenal being there 2nd club after a certain mersyside club by now :) Tell them u love them they obviously need telling EVERY DAY. (pat, pat) :)

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed007 brilliant posts there :D made me smile

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Thanks.}

Just read it all ed 7 must say your responses were quality!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Thanks again.}

I strayed to the Arsenal page yesterday for the first time in ages and just happened to see their love in. Have to say I felt a bit ill after tbh. Couldn't get back to the manic depressives on this page quick enough :-)

Good news both Smalling and Evans trained today.

IMO it's a must that both start if fit and Vidic is not picked as he has been truly awful this season and the majority of the games we have lost this season Vidic has been in the team.

I agree Fellaini should be played higher up to give their defence a nightmare as personally he looks best in that position. It may not be pretty but we don't care aslong as we can get a positive result.

A 1-0 win would be excellent and 2-0 would be a dream but its a really tough ask but we have to be positive and brave or else we have no chance.

Come on we r surely owed a performance this season lads

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I disagree on the Fellaini front. I think he should be playing alongside Giggs in the middle, allow Giggs the freedom but let him sit and then Fellaini run from deep. We need the creative spark of Giggs in midfield with Kagawa behind Rooney. The hard work needs to come from Valencia and Welbeck on the wings, helping out the full backs and closing the opposition down.

Agree0 Disagree0

To be honest with fresh with the quality Bayern have in the centre of midfield I think Fellaini could be an accident waiting to happen.

I think he could be a real nuisance played further up the pitch but that is just my opinion mate.

Time will tell tomorrow all I hope is that we are just positive and not all cagey and invite pressure onto us because we have never been any good when we play like that.

We are meant to be an attacking side hate all the negative tactics but in fairness to Moyes, Fergie was also guilty of it a lot in his latter years

Agree0 Disagree0

I hope we set up like Fresh states we are going to have every player at full throttle, they drew at weekend hopefully there still in dreamland after winning the league so soon, but the line up Fresh is saying could well hurt them if every one has a good game there is lots of power there, for me its the defence that will be our conundrum, Kagawa has found a bit of form we need Danny to have a big game and hope his first touch is as good as it can be he will need to run them hard all game but if he has a bad game then its going to be HARD

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Mar 2014 14:49:39
How does everyone think we should set up tomorrow? Would you sit deep or press high?
Do we try and keep the ball as long as possible or let them had the ball and try and counter?

I think the front four needs to be kagawa, welbeck, Valencia and rooney.
It has pace and also wingers that track back which we will need.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

We need pace and power, the only players with pace are Valencia and Welbeck, both need to play. Kagawa should be behind Rooney for some guile in the midst of the pace and power. E can't start Fellaini with Carrick because they are too pedestrian. Giggs alongside Fellaini is the most desirable I think. Carrick probably at centre back unless Evans is for. Really looking forward to see how Buttner does at left back, hopefully Smalling is fit to play right back and then Jones in the middle. Don't think Vidic is fit and I doubt that both Smalling and Evans will be ready.

So as I said, we need to press them all over the pitch including at the back, Boateng and Martinez could make mistakes without Dante who is the main ball player. Rafinha is the man weakness and I think Welbeck could do a job on him.

Let's wait and see.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah I agree fresh, just like man city did they pressed high and boateng was making mistakes! Which is one weakness in the Bayern team. So with rooney, Valencia and welbeck pressing high I think Martinez and boateng won't have an easy game. Giggs instead of Carrick will bring energy to the team and also giggs plays the ball into better areas when he is under pressure, Carrick is far to negative which will invite Bayern pressure.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'd like to see a 433/451 formation with maybe kagawa in a advanced position in the midfield. Nani and Valencia or Januzaj on the wings.

Agree0 Disagree0

Trev, the ball playing Bayern centre back Dante is out. Boateng and Martinez can be shaky as City showed. Welbeck, Rooney and Valencia all must play for me as they close down well. Kagawa behind Rooney for the spark that we need and Giggs alongside Fellaini. Fellaini making runs from deep and Giggs making those searching balls. Having Carrick alongside Fellaini would be too slow.

Agree0 Disagree0

Bayern start games slow. Our only chance of getting anything out of the game is if we start at a high tempo.

For the first time ever I'd like to see us starting Young. Valencia too.

Agree0 Disagree0

What are peoples thoughts on our approach for Tuesdays game?
I would like to see us try to put pressure on their defence by playing fellani up the pitch with welbeck and januzaj either side of him and rooney up top.
Giggs and carrick sitting in behind.
Whichever formation and whomever the personelle we must not sit back that would be akin to going out half an hour early to face an execution squad just sitting there waiting for one of them pick you off
We cannot beat them at their own game, i'd suggest make it &fast furious and by-pass the midfield as much as possible getting runners off fellani and turn them around as much as possible, its not something they are use to and while its not the United way I feel we must try a different approach as with the best will in the world we won't outplay them another way.
Ken

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I like that a lot, or Carrick cb with fletch in there. Valencia may be able to do a job pressing them in thier half, of course all in theory.

Felliani has a big game in him this season, I hope he gets a goal. Think it will help him significantly in the big picture.

Agree0 Disagree0

I would give it a go to be honest. We are all expecting to go out so let's do it the United way, attacking and fighting all the way. My team would be DeGea, Jones, Vidic, Carrick, Buttner, Fletcher, Fellaini, Kagawa, Mata, Valencia, Rooney in a 4231. Valencia can give Jones some help at RB and hope Buttner can use his pace and keep Robben as quiet as possible. Really looking forward to it no matter what the outcome.

Agree0 Disagree0

Amazingly we have managed to get a copy of Moyes's tactics for the big game tomorrow night :

Every member of the United team should be as far apart as possible
from their team mates at all times.

Make sure the person on the ball has no colleagues within 20 yards,
so that he has hit a more difficult long pass in order that we
lose possession easily

Pass and move will not be tolerated under any circumstances

More than 3 consecutive passes between team mates will result in a fine for all players involved.

When in doubt put the ball in the air

Under no circumstances should a forward try to link the play

The ball can only be played to Rooney and Mata above waist height

No midfielder should move in to space so that a defender can pass
out of defence. Far better for the defenders to lump the ball up the field and lose possession

Under no circumstances should a midfielder look to pass to a forward and should always pass to a winger

The full backs and wingers should fire the ball in to the box the same way every time. Variation will not be tolerated.

When in doubt : DEFEND, DEFEND, DEFEND!

Agree0 Disagree0

Brendan, Mata can't play. For me the team has to be De Gea, Smalling, Jones, Evans, Buttner, Fellaini, Giggs, Valencia, Kagawa, Welbeck and Rooney. We can't sit back, we are at home and have to attack in the true United style. Inviting pressure is not the way to go about this.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think Moyes will play it very safe tomorrow night and opt for a three man midfield of carrick (fletcher if carrick has to play cb) fellaini and giggs with Valencia and welbeck offering wide support to Rooney. Unfortunately I don't think he'll play kagawa. I'd love to see him throw januzaj on at some stage but he has barely used him in Europe. It wouldn't be the team I'd pick but Moyes will revert to type and be cautious.
Looking forward to it but realistically expecting a chastening experience over the two legs and a heavy aggregate defeat. Hope I'm wrong and we summon a magical performance out of somewhere. Unlikely though. Injuries at the back aren't helping things either.

Agree0 Disagree0

Remembered that as I pressed send Fresh yeah, long day :-)

In that case it will be same team but Kagawa as the 10 and Welbeck on the left, will help cover Buttner too.

Agree0 Disagree0

Kagawa Welbeck and Valencia have to play for me pace attacking defensive play when needed Giggs beside Carrick in the middle and a back four of Buttner Jones Evans and Rafael if fit obiously Smalling or Vidic can fill in if not

Agree0 Disagree0

Ken

I read an article about three weeks ago on Pep Guardiola and how he can change tactics during a game, he used exactly those tactics on Dortmund earlier this season and pushed Martinez up because they pressed his team high.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Mar 2014 20:05:23
Yes Red Man, Pep is a very aware tactically he is very astute, he educates his players on all possible eventualities and they know their roles for all. they can switch formations and roles in games and its all seamless as the players are not only technically and tactically better they have a much greater footballing intelligence . They spend 8 hours a week watching dvds understanding their roles and knowing where they should be at all times. he takes a similar approach taken by american football coaches

Agree0 Disagree0

Same as Moyes then!

Just looking at the table, 10 points off of 4th and 6 points from 5th. I don't think we will take the next 18 points and Arsenal will drop 10, not going to happen. But I certainly think 5th is possible. Especially if we beat Everton in two weeks time. 5th place, a CL quarter final, League Cup Semi and Community Shield - would it be that bad? I don't think Moyes would go if that's how it ended. He will get the summer and then next season to see if he can get it all going right. The tactics for the Bayern game will tell us a lot.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

You would do well to keep 7th spot and avoid europa league.

nothing but bad form for the teams involved in that competition.

playing thursday and sundays has hurt those teams.

for everton it will be a step up, but for united a step down and possibly hurt chances of top 4 next year.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think regardless of where we finish and who we sign we won't be challenging next year. We'll most likely make 4th, but I believe it'll be 2 or 3 years until we 're contention to win the EPL again.

And honestly, I'm okay with that. I've had over 20 years of success and I've loved every minute of it. If it means we take some 'down time' in order to return and dominate for another 20 yeas then i'm all for it.

Agree0 Disagree0

Fresh, It's been a disaster. Oh and finishing 6th would get us Europa, if that's what we really want.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think it would be good to bed some younger players into the Europa League and we should try to win it. There are aome good teams in it.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'd rather lose the rest of our league games and not qualify for the Europa, will be a huge mistake for us to be in it next season, unless we use fringe/younger players only instead of sending them out on loan early in the season, could be good experience for them but not the first 11.

Agree0 Disagree0

Oh I'm not denying it's been a disaster. But a strong finish would help to lighten the mood. I don't think a run in the Europa League would be too detrimental, lots of younger lads need to learn their trade in Europe.

Agree0 Disagree0

Win as many as we can, what sort of tactic for future success to lose matches.
If we are in Europa good, we can play fringe players and our up & coming young future 1st teamers, win win for our club as an whole with regards future success in Europe. so less of the negative tactics play to win nothing less is acceptable

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Mar 2014 16:40:21
Whats the difference between Swansea Wigan and Totenham lack of squad depth Totenham are obiously the strongest of them and it has showed we have a team to play in the Europa League Keane and players like them then Wilson Pearson Rotwell and younger players could really make a name for themselves in the League cup and Fa cup and Europa league

Agree0 Disagree0

Are we allowed to field an under strength team though or would Uefa hit us with disciplinary action? I can't see them allowing us to play a load of youngsters, that would be my main concern.

Agree0 Disagree0

Everton have a game in hand and are playing well enough to look up not down, Spurs are playing worse than us atm. 6th at best for me.

Agree0 Disagree0

Brendan81
its called team rotation

Agree0 Disagree0

I doubt Uefa will agree Byton.

Agree0 Disagree0

The Moon,

You are literally the first and only United fan I have seen state that opinion in real life or on any interweb platform.

A really good point and even though I hadn't realised until I saw it, that's exactly how I would hope I would feel if my club was going through the same thing.

Mad props.

Agree0 Disagree0

The thing is under present command I don't see us dominating again. There is no winning CV at the top and we may compete with Arsenal for the 4th place trophy for some time. That wouldn't be acceptable at the other great clubs and should not be to us. Accept it and we become Arsenal.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Mar 2014 12:09:26
Smalling and Evans trained today whilst Dante and Thiago won't be playing for Bayern which helps a little bit haha. Hopefully we can play 4 proper defenders tomorrow. A back four of Smalling, Jones, Evans and Buttner sounds much stronger than what I was expecting earlier today.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

All joking aside Dante will be a big miss for them, whenever I've watched them he seems to be their main ballplayer in defence and he's great in the air as well, I suppose it will be martinez replacing him, he never seems quite as assured on the ball when he's in defence so hopefully we can exploit a potential weakness in that position, ill be more than happy with a draw or even a defeat as long as its only by 1 goal, otherwise I don't hold much hope.

Agree0 Disagree0

Not sure I'd be happy playing two players coming back from injury against the best club side in world football. Maybe Evans if we are really struggling at CB and don't want to play Carrick there, but I'd rather Jones at RB with full match fitness against Ribery.

Agree0 Disagree0

Wiggy
How will you exploit bayerns weakness mate by playing shrek as an out and out striker
LMAO
Maybe Hernandez can do the job but shrek against Martinez no way

I am both optimistic and pessimistic about tomorrow, personally I will be happy if we play well and keep it close. It's imperative that we restrict them to one goal at the most. A 1-1 or even a 0-0 would be a brilliant result. It's a huge opportunity for some players. Hopefully Kagawa starts again but this time behind Rooney. Welbeck left and Januzaj right is what I would hope for. It's a huge game for Buttner, if he impresses I think he will rotate with someone like Shaw next season, if he fails then we need a new first choice and back up left back. I think that Carrick is going to have to start alongside Jones and Valencia may need to play at right back unless we can get a fit Smalling or Rafael. Fellaini and Giggs in the middle would be a reasonable blend.

I'm saying 2-1 Bayern in the end but hoping for something else.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Kagawa i'm sure will start tomorrow as we don't have mata or rvp and he's been getting game time recently. we need someone to be able to create things for rooney and with kagawa having a positive record vs bayern, I see him definitely starting. i'd also play valencia and welbeck and bring januzaj on later. were going to need players wit pace and ok defensively or we'll torn up v bayern. I see valencia having a massive role for tomorrow. I can see welbeck on the left kagawa central and valencia right, behind rooney. i'm going for a 2-1 victory for the reds

Agree0 Disagree0

I think we all live in hope Fresh bro. With our weak and slow midfield, our creaky defence, even when at full strength. and now forced to play players out of position I fear the worst. I'll be happy if we press high and work so hard we cause them problems.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree that Valencia will probably play if he is fit again. Welbeck will 100% play and now with Smalling and Evans training we may well have a defence made up of defenders not midfielders.

Agree0 Disagree0

Most other big matches this season i've been quite hopeful, however with this one we're playing a really really good team. They brushed aside City earlier in the season and Arsenal more recently, both teams we have struggled to play any kind of positive football against this season. I just hope we don't get embarrassed again.

Agree0 Disagree0

Wouldn't be surprised to see Welbeck at number 10, again. Clueless in that position(isn't Wayne?) but running back to defend at every opportunity.
