'Why would these players sign six year deals at RM when they know Jose will be leaving in a year? They chose RM, not Jose.'
Sydney!
Firstly, the players signed a 6year deal cause thats standard at their age. Its not like madrid would actually agree to pay so much in tranfer fees only for them to sign on a 1year or 2year deal, then leave on a free.
Secondly, how do you know jose will be leaving in a year? Did he tell you that? IMO, jose will only leave after winning both the la liga and the champions league with madrid. I think he ll win 1 this season and then win the other next season.
Thirdly, i did not say these player only picked madrid because of jose. What i was implyin was that jose played significant role in players like ozil, sahin, di maria, centrao, varane picking madrid. Ofcourse other factors were also in play e.g they may have prefered to be part of the galacticos or they simply prefer the la liga or culture and weather in spain. Only they know.
But i recall varane stating that when mourinho and zidane spoke to him, there was no way he could say no. Centrao, ronaldo have stated they always wanted to play under jose at some point in their careers.
IMO, mourinho plays a huge role in convicing players to come to the clubs he manages.
You may not believe this now, but in the near future when jose takes over from sir alex and some of the top players that currently snubing us are suddenly willing to come, then maybe you might believe.

You get the impression shi**ypool weren't bothered with the result tonight. Looked more they just wanted to put 1 over us.

It was a match were city were rubbish, shi**ypool dominated and should of destroyed them but instead they played amongst themselves with Reina who cmon looked liked he was acting a fool.

absolutely Fab comment from the Telegraph site

"I wish my team-mates - Taffy Bellamy, Chav Henderson, Jock Adam, and Negro Johnson - all the best for the match tonight."

He didn't actually say the last sentence. He actually ends the statement with "YNWA" (You'll Never Win Again). To which the only appropriate response is "BARF". When will Liverpool realise that deriving a cogent moral credo from a Gerry and the Pacemakers song simply makes them look a bit dim?

Brilliant comment from the Telegraph site.

If dgea had conceded those two goals the media and opposing fans as well as some on here would be calling for him to bedropped as he is not good enough and is two inexperienced so what is reina,s excuse the first was shockin and the second good header though it was, was right above his head very poor reactions dgea would have defo stopped it so can we all cut dgea some slack and not over react when he makes the odd mistake he is young and will learn not a case you can make for reina

'Attitudes such as the guy who wrote that
article bug me. Who is he to say how football "should" be played? Sure people rave about the talent at Barca but personally Im not sure whether I would rather sit through 90minutes of Stoke City or 90 minutes of
Barcelona. Watching Barca play can be one of the most boring experiences of watching a football match IMO. Sure some of the goals scored are out of this world but the many minutes inbetween are enough to send you off to sleep. Skill? Yes. Entertainment? No.'
TK-Red

you cant be serious! If i recall correctly, no one seemed to be complaining at the start of the season when we were playing the fast passing attacking brand of football thats similar to the barca style. Are you saying you would prefer us playing like stoke than playing like barca?
Everyone has their preferences, but just to be clear, are you saying you prefer the rough, no quality, no skill or technical ability style that involves several miss placed passes trying to pick out an isolated target uptop to the skillful, free flowing attacking style?
How about alittle surveying, you guys press agree if you prefer us playin like stoke city and disagree if you prefer us playin like barca

These are the players i'd like to see us go for in the positions that need addressing/could be improved, a selection of them anyway:

LB: Izaguirre, Alba, Schmelzer, Cissokho, Fuchs, Bale.

Back up CB: Shawcross, Rodwell.

Winger: Bale, Hazard, Ocampos, Vadillo, Shaqiri, Hoilett.

CM/CAM: Dzagoev, Eriksen, Gotze, Modric, Montolivo.

Box2Box: Martinez, Rodwell, Elm, Marchisio,

Striker: Higuain, Torres, Schurrle, Huntelaar, Raul, E. Torres, Pozuelo, Rossi.

Out of that selection i'd go for:

LB: Izaguirre - really good going forwards and defending.

CB/Box2Box: Rodwell

CM/CAM: Dzagoev

Winger: Bale/Hazard ideally, but Vadillo is a prospect.

Striker: I think an experienced striker would be the one that we go for, so based on that list i'd go for either Huntelaar or Raul. Both of their scoring records are incredible, and they'd give a different dimension to our attack.

Apparantly City are trying to lure DeRossi with 160k wages, a lot of money but if you take into consideration the transfer fee (probs around 8mill) then its a bargain. United should enquire because he is what we need right now. I would like to see De Rossi and Cahill for January, both would cost no more than 15 mill, not to bad in my opinion.... HERBIE

bring in mournho you say , well unless you increase your transfer bugdet 10 fold , mourinho would not come , hes a good manger but has had big big money in his last two clubs to spend , if anything city will get him ,
lindergard is a far better keeper than de dea , whos a lightweight that will never be a heavyweight , for all you utd fans who think spindle legs will
turn into the build of some sort of wwe wrestler.
beckham- yes like fergie would bring him back - just think about that one , i know you fans like a bit of dreaming , but the truth is hes done , but could still sell a few shirts to the daft fans who wear players names on thier back , what is it with grown men wearing someones name on their back , its for the kids , not adults
o and lpool will draw tonight at city , so not all bad news for you lot............lfc

People who criticise say things like ''look where we are now'', but where exactly is that? Neck and neck with City- joint top of the league, out of the Champion's League (so are they). We lost to Blackburn with a weakened team (and with not a lot to choose from- 'our squad is not good enough'), City lost to Sunderland with a weakened team (when they could have played a much stronger one- and their squad is 'so much stronger than ours'). And all that's with spending considerabley less than them. So we're actually doing pretty darn well considering aren't we? We need one or two more players and for the transition to take it's course a little further and then theoretically we'll be doing even better than now, yes? So why can't we look at the positives of being where we are? Negative poeople on here often call themselves 'realists' but what's so unreal about what I've said?

I hear Cleverley is back in full training, does anyone know if that's true, and when he'll be back seen as City's just around the corner? On a different note, the apparently sought after Morrison missed his biggest opportunity, to get into a league game through injury, any idea when he'll be back? Probably won't matter because now we've passed our 'easy' run of games.

Except the injuries, I'm happy with how United are doing, level on points with the team who most are hailing as the champions already. If they drop points tonight, United should be able to pounce and claim top spot once again. Saying that, Newcastle are a hard team to break down.

does anyone know if it's true that inters chief is set to talk to united about sneijder signing in January.

2 more things..

1. does anyone think roy keane would of made a good coach at united? his experience and will to win would of been a great thing to have, especially at half time when down by a goal. (i guess if he and SAF' relationship wasn't so strained it could of happened?)

2. what do people make of guardiola being SAF successor ? he dodge a question when asked about it, he said " i hope he stays on a few more years" could this mean he wants the job then or am i reading too much into it?

here's my thoughts on a few issues that seem to have been contraversial in the last couple of days or so:

1) the de gea Vs lindergard saga;
its no secret that sir alex has made mistakes regarding goalkeepers in the past. But i dont think de gea will add to those statistics. He will come good in time, he just needs to settle down, bulk up and start showing abit more aggression. The only problem is, how many more points can we afford to drop just to give de gea a run of games to boost his confidence? I mean now would have been good time to overtake city as they seem to be struggling with these 48hours fixtures. City could drop points today, which could present us with the opportunity to go 2 or 3 points clear. Id play lindergard to ensure that we capitalise on this opportunity. De gea needs to be given time to settle and rebuild his confidence, rushing him wont help him or our title aspirations.

2) sir alex V mourinho pull on players:
one thing these two share is their ability to motivate and get the best out of the players they have. look at the number of average players in the squad sir alex is working with, whatever we win is down to his experience and technical know how built up over years of winning trofies. mourinho is the only other manager i can think of who can win major trofies wit average players.
Personally, i believe 'the special one' has a bigger pull on players especially those outside the british market. I think this is because he has created this illusion that he can win trofies in any leaue including the champ league with any decent team. Also the players his worked with seem to almost worship him. The documentaries and interviews about him potraying him as the greatest manager in world also contribute to this pull.

Answer this objectively, in the next 15years, how many leagues titles and champions league trofies do you expect jose to win in total?
Am guessing alot of you are predicting double digits, maybe 10 league titles and 5 champions league titles. Well thats the illusion am talking about.
I know many of you may disagree about jose havin a bigger pull on players than sir alex, but before you do, ask yourself this final question;
- where would ozil, sahin, centrao, varane, di maria.....etc be playing if the special one was our manager?

Sir Alex Ferguson has decided to try bring back Taibi as a goalkeeping coach. Taibi had huge success at Man U at his time and Sir Alex feels that De Gea could learn a lot from such a consummate professional.

i don't understand SAF way of thinking, he wants to sign giggs for another season but doesn't want to sign beckham on a free.... surely a player of beckhams standards should be considered if he is available on a free... yes he might be past it,playing week in week out, but so is giggs, we could use beckham like we used scholes, plus beckham would be good around the camp.. {Ed002's Note - The question is does he want to live in the UK and I think the answer is no. PSG was nailed on but there are issues are than LAG keeping him in California.}

to say kean was a defensive midfielder who could do box to box like any other defensive midfielder is doing the man an injustice, he was far more.
For forest in the early days he was a box to box goalscoring midfielder , which he continued through his early days at united.
he then learnt to improve his game and control the tempo of the game using short passing and movement, yes he could put a tackle in but he had much more to his game than that.
I would say his best game for united was juventus away where he grabed the game by the scruff of the neck controlled the tempo scored and gave a true box to box performance much more bryan robson like than makelel

As much as i love some of the players that have given a great deal to the team in terms of loyalty e.g. Park, Evans, Gibson etc.

We have a deep squad in terms of numbers but lacking in quality. I cant imagine Fergie buying anybody this Jan and if he did, it would be a youngster or somebody who barely makes the cut.

As much as i would hate this to happen, but IF (big if) City won and we came second, perhaps this would give Fergie a boot up the arse and rile him to take them down next season. Meaning perhaps a good clearout of the deadwood and some quality brought in.

Just a theory.

Granit Xhaka's current contract at Basel runs until 2014 Manchester United are tracking promising FC Basel midfielder Granit Xhaka with a view to a possible summer move reports.

This is being reported in the people, would love to see him and Shaqiri make the move to OT. They are some way off being first teamers but certainly have the potential for sure! Xhaka is Fletcher-esque in my view and could occupy that squad/first team role if he were to come in. Cheap price, cheap wages, everybody wins!

Nothing related to United. Read article on espn site by Andrew Leci. A funny take on all the clubs so thought to share this one

www.espnstar.com/home/news/detail/item728612/Leci:-The-BPL-halfway-report-card/

The best one was about Stoke
Stoke City - an evil part of me wanted Barcelona to drop out of the Champions League and meet Stoke in the knockout rounds of the Europa League. I wanted to be at the Nou Camp to witness the reaction of the Barca faithful to the way Stoke play their football. The club should pay the fans to attend games, not the other way round. It doesn't seem fair.

Happy New Year All!

"Sir Alex Ferguson has no plans to make a 'sticking plaster' signing in the January transfer window and has faith in his Manchester United squad." - Sky Sports News.

This was said after the defeat to Blackburn. I still think we need some extra support and creativity in midfield. Someone with some experience in creating chances.

Right, DDG is better then Lindengaard, DDG has serious potential thats why he is playing ahead of Lindengaard. Lindengaard is number 2, he knows that. He is quality and im glad we have such a good second choice. We dont need any more defenders or midfielders, Its a tough injury period. When the likes of Cleverly, Anderson, Vidic, Da Silva twins and welbeck return from injury, United will be fine. Admittidly, id love if United Signed a big name as it would only bolster a strong squad. But i dont see it happening until Summer.

Fergie ' I will sort Rooney out, how dare he not do as I have ordered. I am the master'.

Oops we just got beat by Newcastle without him...mmmm let me think even if my nrain is getting a little senile. OK then Ive made a fool of him by getting him to train on his day off, now I will allow him to come back.

He will accept my judgement fully and come back and do exactly what I want.....Errr NOT Sir Alex!

Anyone who knows Rooneys character also knows that he is a stubborn little chap. If Fergie thinks its OK to ridicule your top player IN PUBLIC, and then behave like its all OK cos you NEED him, has got a surprise coming.

Yes he may get picked, yes he may play...but hes no longer a kid and isnt bothered what Fergie thinks. He was brought up on the streets of Liverpool and will not be made a fool of lightly, especially to the worlds press. You all know how scousers act in times of adversity, we are natural fighters, we cant help it, its engrained in our DNA. Weve fought real battles in icy waters in terrible conditions, and fought all over the world for centuries without complaint.
This makes us men of character with a strong willpower, where men are respected as men and dont let anyone beat us down.

He will be on the pitch but his heart wont be. Youve seen the best of Rooney, and Im sure most MUFC supporters know deep in their hearts that his days are now numbered at United. He could play in any league in the world for double his current salary.

Fergie is past it now, he is too old. You cant bully multi millionaire footballers they way he used to with young players in the past. Its a science now and men like Mourinho and AVB are the future, Fergies had his day and its over.

the truth sometimes hurts.....

Fergies done it again proven how useless he and his staff are at spotting a decent keeper. Stuck with 2 totally useless keepers is it going to be another schmichael situation were it takes 6 years to fill the void. Whens he going to admit that he f***ed up in the midfield too due to his inept dealings in the transfer market. Did anyone see the documentary on Mourinho the other day, every player that has played for him absolutely loves him still, people want to play for his team who wants to sign for fergie he's got no pull outside the english market whereas everyone wants to play for Mourinho. If top players are going to sign then MOurinho needs to come in. Time for fergie to go."""
dear sir
ngiak applauds you for the attempt
unfortunately not many actually took the bait
well, everyone knows lindegaard's stats
and de gea has the most number of saves in the league and he is an international at 20. he will only get better
thanks for the concern though
as for the midfield... we have 11 potential first team players injured
it may just affect the team play
as for mourinho being well loved... er... only by the players he got huge salaries for
aren't chelsea suffering for that? many many more really hate him and his methods...
well, what does ngiak know...?
gan
ps... you are right, its doom and gloom at OT as we are a HUGE GOAL DIFFERENCE behind city despite our handicaps... and its the best start of any team in the premier league..

Evening. For me, without questioning saf as I am but a mere ant at the bottom of the united kingdom, I truly feel that there are some amazing young stars that we possibly could capture. Players that I believe would improve our squad, and help up catch and beat Barcelona. We should not be trying to compete, we should be trying to be the best and take football to another level. Martínez, m'villa, gotze. Such players are the stars of tomorrow that could help make this united the greatest ever and I feel we should be chasing them at any cost. Maybe we areI don't know but I Just prey that saf knows something we don't, which is likely. Happy new year, much love. United be thy name
