What are the chances of Herrera coming in to do a man-marking job on De Bruine, similar to the role he was given against Chelsea? Ok, he’ll probably be sent off again lol but KDB is probably the main cog to nullify if Utd expect anything out the game?

Just got to stop KDB, Silva (there's two of him! ), Aguero, Sterling and the Son of God. Simples.

debryune is too big for him. he would be better marking silva and matic sitting on debruyne.

We can't be going into the game worrying how were going to stop there players.

We should be setting up to make them worry about us

Yes they have some very good players but so do we.

And we are coming in form and scoring goals.

City haven't been amazing lately.

Just chatting with my lad and we were doing the comparison thing you do, and he tells me pogba is better than Vieira, now I love pogba I honestly do but imo along with Mr keane they were monsters of the game and pogba has come nowhere close to having the influence of keane or Vieira.

Interested to hear people's views.

Has the potential to be IMO. Has all the attributes and more than vieira. But he has a bit to do before he can make that claim.

He has more ability than Viera, no doubt about it imo. I genuinly think he can be the best in the world, he just needs more consistency, although he is influencing more games this season than last already. Our best outfield player comfortably.

I agree with the comments above I think pogba has a higher ceiling in terms of talent and ability than Vieira. I would say pogba is better a little further forward than Vieira who was an explosive power house of a midfielder. I would say Dembele of spurs is more like Vieira. Pogba has a touch of bergkamp on him when he is on the ball but then has a range of passing ability like Scholes. I am delighted to see he is contributing more this year and we must build our team around him and players like martial because they have the potential to be the best. So in short, pogba isn’t at Vieira’s level yet but I expect him to be the best midfielder in the world in coming years and be challenging for the ballon d’or.

As the other guys have said I think Pogba has a lot more going forward in his locker, but man-man Vieira would destroy him at the moment in my view.

I'm looking forward to Pogba eventually dropping all the posing and focusing purely on being a monster. I think if we went back 20 years Pogba would already be better, but alas time moves on and the youth of today are taking longer to grow up with every move they make being scrutinised and trying to appeal to more and more sycophants. Pogba really has it all, but I get the feeling he is holding back still to look "cool", the stupid hair-cuts etc just add to that impression of this all being a bit of fun, rather than a WAR!

Bring in Dele Alli or Saul to assist Pogba and Lukaku in attack?

Milinkovic-Savic is a good call to!?

Everyone's comments sort of echo how I feel about it, pogba has the potential to be the world's best and I do believe that further up the pitch he has more to offer .

I also believe the reasons that a lot of us get fed up with the modern footballer I, e haircuts, handshakes, dancing, robonas and the like is the reason that kids love them .

I think ask yourself this if pogba came up against prime Roy Keane in a match could he drag the game away from him the way Vieira could imo I don't think he could. yet.

Thanks for the comments lads it's an interesting one.

Couldn't agree more Beast. Imagine Pogba in the 90s era with Keane and Scholes in a midfield three! They would have made him into an absolute monster by sheer will power. I love a serious footballer. Smiles are for wimps.

Great points from everyone I agree with both beast and Deano. And good shout Ronnie on Milinkovic Savic that is one player who could be very special. I think to unlock pogba’s potential further we need to invest in another midfielder to play on a 3 alongside pogba and matic. As Ed has mentioned we are looking at a few options but I would love it if we could get Leon Goretzka. Such a talented player and it would allow us to control the tempo of the game when we play the big teams away from home. Exciting times as we have the makings of a strong team and with 4 more quality additions (lb, rb, cm, rw/ 10) we will be a force to be reckoned with.

His issue wasn't talent, it was attitude. If you told me he has really got his head down and his attitude has changed, I would take him back because he has all the talent.

Maybe one of the eds has some insight into whether or not he has been able to develop on that side of the game.

Lots of talent doing well at Lyon he may well go on to get 1 more big move but it won't be back to united. I reckon he will have played for 6 or 7 clubs by the time he is 30.

If he spoke to Jose and Jose was convinced that his mentality had changed then Def yes. The lad hs fantastic talent he came to us too early it was too big a jump from the Dutch league (quite a few pundits warned it might be) . I would hate to watch him in a year or so like Chelsea have to watch De Bruyne.

While the result and passion of the Arsenal was great, we were cut open in numerous occasions and only for DeGea we would have lost. We cannot be that open against city. We need a solid defence which then effects or attack, it will be hard to balance. But I'm really looking forward to it.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

04 Dec 2017 21:10:11
Agreed Redcon. I was worried by how easily arsenal carved opportunities. I think mourinho will be more defensive and try to contain city and hit them on the break. If we try to play football, there's only going to be one winner.

I think we were extremely lucky against Arsenal. They played without brains always trying to play through a narrow congested central part of the defence. City will attack better and have better more clinical finishers. We need to cut off the supply to their strikers which means winning the midfield battle. We also need someone who can quickly link defence to the attack so when we have the ball we have options and not just lumping it forward or passing crab like ie side to side. The other thing is that City's defence is better than Arsenal. We won't get two gifts from them. Let's be realistic on paper they should win. Even at Old Trafford they should win. But this is a Derby and if out players are properly focused and play to their potential we can win. I could see it being a close 1 - 0 to us. Or it could be a 3 or 4 nil to them because if they score first we will have to go for it being at home and they can be deadly with the pace and skill they have on the counter. Whatever happens it will be a good indicator of how far we have come or still need to progress.

Lukaku. Martial lingard and Rashford have to be the 4 we play up top against city.

The last 3 games teams have all set up to counter against city which has caused them problems.

And if we can make use of the height we have at set pieces which again is something city have struggled with

There are defiantly weaknesses to city I just hope we are up for it and the crowd can inject some atmosphere.

City have been going through a not so good patch, it’s hard to call it a rough patch as they have carried on winning. But their win over Feyenoord was laboured, they followed that up late goals required to beat Huddersfield, Southampton and West Ham 2-1. So now could be a good time to play them.
I’m expecting a Jose special, it won’t be pretty to watch. I’m thinking Inter vs Barcelona in the UCL Semi kind of game.
We will sit deep and tight, then look to hit them on the counter or at a set piece. I doubt we will have 4 offensive players on the pitch, certainly not to start with. I see us setting up 3511 type formation. With our best fit defenders on ( Jones and Bailly if possible), with Pogba suspended I expect we’ll see Matic, Herrera and Fellaini on. Mourinho trusts Fellaini in the big games and I can see Herrera being put on De Bruyne marking duty again. I expect we could see Lingard playing just off of Lukaku, his work rate and form make him the obvious choice. If we can win against them it will close the gap between us and hopefully sow a seed of doubt in their players minds before the tough winter schedule, it could be a turning point in the title race. Or alternatively we could lose which will almost certainly mean City will win the title. No pressure.

Bolger - I just can't see Jose starting Martial, Lingard, Rashford and Lukaku!

Pogba is a massive loss. He's the only player in our squad that's irreplaceable (with the possible exception of Matic)!

We have nobody else like him and we'll have to change our game plan.

His transitions between defence and attack and his powerful running from deep has been brilliant this year. We didn't really see that last season but now we're just starting to see the player we all expected!

Matic compliments him brilliantly I'm not sure there's a better midfield pairing in Europe right now!

Without Pogba I can't see anything else than park the bus, hope to somehow get a goal and win 1-0!

I think their maybe a bad result away from a wobble! The cold weather has set in and their form has predictably dropped but at the moment their still finding a way to win. Their possession just wears teams down.

My fear is we won't be able to counter effectively without Pogba and we'll just be forced into defending our own penalty box.

Call me anti football and defeatist if you want but maybe it's a time to roll out the dogs of war, get Ibra and Fellaini on, go direct, play over their high press, try and win the second balls and knock downs, play in their half and put crosses in the box?
It won't be pretty but if Ibra, Fellaini and Lukaku can hold the ball up with players like Herrera and Matic swarming around them in midfield, get Martial running at them in the final third it might just give them a challenge they haven't encountered yet.

Turn the game into a war or attrition, make it physical and uncomfortable for them. This is not a game for the purists or pretty, attractive football. It's about winning by any means necessary and dragging ourselves back into the title race.

Let's get Old Trafford rocking and remind them that despite all their champagne football Manchester is red and we won't go away without a fight!

If ever there was an occasion for a Jose war cry and tactical mater class then surely it has arrived!

corrrr Danny that was a rousing post as I have ever seen one! Jose should get you in the changing room for the pre match talk.

Pogba's injury is the worst possible case but if there is a manager that can provide a tactical masterclass then jose is the one. He has instilled a stubborn and strong mentality in our team and I expect us to be physical and explosive on the break. The crowd have a huge part to play. I am buzzing.

I love these big games!

That Arsenal result has really wetted the appetite. I really didn't expect us to win and to do it playing some brilliant counter attacking football felt so good. Somebody has already said it but it reminded me of the Newcastle game in 1996 when we won with a Schmeichel goalkeeping masterclass and a break away goal by Eric to plunge a dagger straight through their hearts or the FA Cup Semi in 1999 when despite having only 10 men and Arsenal missing a penalty in the last minute Giggs scored the best goal in FA Cup history, it felt like a real throwback moment!

Somehow I can just feel the excitement and rivalry returning!

If we can just manage to win on Sunday then despite all their lauded football and record breaking winning streak that big bad Red Devil will still be sat right on their shoulder!

Great if we win with aggressive and beautiful football but I’d take a boring win just as good.
As ivy mentioned winning is important but even better with beautiful football.
Been lucky to predict a 3-1 win against Arsenal and win some good bets 🤣🤣. I am willing to part with half of winning Just so we win City. Better if we beat them and I win bets too 🤣🤣🤣. Can’t wait for this weekend.

Agree we should keep it tight and hope for the best.
Don't agree that people keep going about city's dodgy defence. They've spent £120m on 3 fullbacks. £40m on a goalkeeper. And they have two very good centre backs. They've conceded 10 and we've conceded 9. So not a lot between us.
But it is in game control and midfield and attack where they're head and shoulders above us.

City have been really poor last 3 games. We have been good against better opposition if pogba had been playing i'd say we would habe been favourites but without pogba we will probably only win but a 2 goal margin.
