Hello!?!? Forget spending 30+million on an unproven midfielder to and go and have the same effect as juan seb veron!
Why does nobody mention Kaka!? Sure he has not had the best few season in the past 3 years, but this guy was world player of the year in 2007, you don't lose that. I am positive kaka would love a fresh start. Evidently things haven't worked out for him since leaving Milan, and maybe he will never be the player he used to be, but MAYBE a fresh start is just what he needs. Rather than spend a ridiculous amount on an unproven player, why not pay no more than 8mil on a proven world class talent, may be a risk, but a smaller risk with bigger dividends if it pays off!
Please repost and make this known so maybe SAF will clock on and put on a cheeky bid!

Believable1 Unbelievable4

I get where ya coming from but David beckham and clarence seedorf were still class 5 years ago and was playing regular football. But fergie wouldn't shake a s**tty stick near them and neither would I :)

Agree1 Disagree0

Number one...he's an attacking midfielder, we've already signed two of those (Kagawa and Powell), number two...Madrid are apparently asking for 25 million euro for him (similar price as Moutinho) and number 3...he's 30 and his time at Madrid has been dogged with bad fitness and pretty bad form. Having said that, I reckon Chelski or City will probably try a sneaky bid with their ''well if we have him, that means he isn't at another team'' attitude!

Andy

Agree1 Disagree0

Hmm, so you would rather sign a player who has proved to be a flop rather than an exciting 19 year old who could be a superstar?

Hi Cban, couldn't reply last night as was busy and my phone wouldn't let me reply to the message anyway lol. I'm studying at Southend, it's my local university campus and will be so much cheaper than going somewhere else, especially as I'll be living at home :) What about you?

Anyway to anybody. Does anyone think we'll see more squad number changes e.g. rafael to number 2?

SK

p.s. If anyone needs a way to shut up a Spurs fan just mention the Champions League. After being taunted (again) at us just missing the title I found this had the profound effect of shutting her up :)

I would expect Rafael to be number 2 to be honest, unless he wants to keep his current number but I imagine he would like number 2. If Fabio's loan works out I would expect him to be number 3 when Evra leaves as well.

I was interviewed today on Radio 5 about the share issue and I raised the point that they are finally admitting that the debt has had a negative effect on the club re purchasing players etc. I wonder how Mr Gill will put a spin on that. I AM KLOOT

Believable2 Unbelievable1

Ok, so they have admitted it and have come up with a way of solving it, I am still struggling to see the problem?

What exactly would make you happy RFT, who do you want in charge of the club?

If the Glazers see this through and get rid of the interest payments we will have '1 million pound every 4 days' to put back into the club, then what will you have to moan about?

P.S. It doesn't surprise me that you ring in to radio shows lol, I am just shocked it was not TalkSh*te.

The one positive thing I can find from today is that it has flushed out all the Glazer supporters like GDS Sydney and ED002. Of course I am sickened by the apathy of some of the people on this site who say they are using the money to bring down the debt. Don't you get it, they are just paying their debt and not putting a penny into the club. Anyone who has ever visited Old Trafford and paid any money has put more money into our club than these leeches. Paying off their debt is somehow supposed to make us feel better. What do you really think they are going to start investing when they have brought the debt down. They will just sell to someone who will probably use the Glazer plan to purchase the club putting us in debt again. I AM KLOOT

Believable2 Unbelievable1

I don't think anyone is a "Glazier supporter" but not everyone is as narrow minded.on the subject as you mate. You might get more support if you weren't so aggressive and dissmissive in your posts. I can see how passionately you feel about this subject as can everyone else, but maybe alittle more tact would go along way to helping you persuade others. You've come across militant and slightly paranoid at times with stuff like them sending people on to the site to defend them and discredit you. I think you could do with stepping back and looking at how you go about your posts. As I wanna like you and your posts but your attitude and writting style is putting me off.

"As much as I am aware that we would be better off financially without the debt I am not convinced we will start paying more wages or bigger transfer fees when the debt is gone. I think the Glazers have jumped on the M.U.S.T bandwagon as a way of justifying the IPO to the investors. IMO the reason the Glazers are going for the IPO is so they can take advantage of our club being overvalued in the market and they can clear the debt which will allow them to take around £36m a year in dividends. I may be being a little pessimistic here, but I do not believe the club is has hard up as they are making out. The finances certainly back this up.

Sydney!"

I posted this dinnertime and I think you will agree that I am not supporting the Glazers. However the debt is being eradicated and that can only be good for the club. I think your hatred for the Glazers has turned into an obsession. None of us are fans of the Glazers, but most of us know that no debt is good, £500m+ worth of debt is not good.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree1

I dont have an issue with them using the money to pay of the debt , i understand its there debt but getting the debt down can only be a good thing in my eyes,

what happens after the debt is reduced is anyone's guess , im sure that all united fans would hope that the extra profits would be re-invested into the team but fear that that it will just be taken out of the club.

i do find it strange that even after some of the statements in the filling ,some people still think that every thing is great at the club, but everyone to there own.

my own opinion is that there is no doubt we could of been far more competitive in the transfer market over the last few years and that due to the debt we have missed out on some top players
jred

Agree0 Disagree0

Do you have a partner? He/She must be the most miserable person in the world! All your posts are so depressing its unreal.

Today could have been the start of the end for the debt in the club. How do you know that the Glazers will take so much from the club, they haven't taken anything so far and are running a successful business. If they were not paying the interest payments they will have lots of extra money available. I am sure they would take some but they own the club so they have the right to, but the rest of the money they will reinvest, it is how business works and they are better business men than you are.

I am by no means a 'Glazer supporter' but if they pull this off it can only be a positive, and as I said above, what the hell will you moan about then?

Have you never thought maybe just maybe it might be time to smile, enjoy life, enjoy football and see what happens, because you are lucky enough to have seen some amazing times at Old Trafford like I have, and I am proud of my club.

If you were a Rangers fan you would have killed yourself....

I am a kloot 9 trophys in 7 years what more do you want? No matter how much of the £500 million spent on serving the debt had been given to sir Alex do you believe we'd have competed with Barca coz real Madrid have tried and if we follow their business model then we,ll end up like Rangersor like city fringe players on fortunes clogging up the system seeing out contracts
I'm not a glazer fan but the BBC and David Conn would love your opinion(I wonder why) keep flying the flag whilst the club& team go on and challenge on all 4 fronts this season

9 trophys in the 7 years doesnt really teel the whole story
did we challenge on all 4 fronts last season.

RFT may well be right or he might be wrong only time will tell. he may be over negative but there are also a lot of people who could be counted as over positive.
I actualy think that the debt has been a bigger problem than a lot of people think but who knows?
jred

Agree2 Disagree0

Jred,

I agree fully with that, we have no idea one way or the other what the Glazers will do. What we do know is if it works we will have a debt free club. What the Glazers do after that is anybody's guess.

From where we are now the debt free part is most important to me.

Rumour tonight says MUFC deligates have flown to Brazil to agree a deal with Lucas Moura of Sau Paulo.

I saw him come on as a sub vs mexico a few weeks back. Some nice touches, but he didn't get into the game too much. Huge potential and as we should expect by now, a huge price tag to go with it.

I love how as soons as a big name becomes available people cease to think. They sit there wetting thereselves, screaming at the TV screen - ''Man Utd MUST buy him because his name is Van Persie!'' Stop and think. The likelihood is we are moving to a 4-2-3-1 formation with kagawa behind Rooney, as has been said before on the site. That leaves us with Welbeck, Chica and possibly Berba as backups. Add to that the fact that RVP is 29, would command a considerable transfer fee plus huge wages - where is the sense in that? Especially when such money would be much better used on the midfield.

And Berba still in Fergies plans we have 4 good strikers! Fergie has stated he is building a strong team for the future, yet as soon as an older player has one good season , your saying we should sign him? No thanks, there's many other places we need to focus on, like LB and either a box to box, or defensive midfielder, please Fergie, do not follow up interest of Van Persie, he wont bring anything to a future squad!

Having heard the announcement of robin from arsenal gave my mate a bell to see if he had an update from his end at SEG. City offered betters terms than they did originally but nothing mind blowing they are trying to bring their wage level down so even tho there offer to van pierse is substantial the offer from juve is higher but as he has already told me this is the players LEAST preferred destination but it is were his club would like him to go. There is not alot in city and uniteds offeres and he assure me for certain that man united are in for him for sure and he will CERTAINLY end up at one of these three clubs and that a decision will be made by the player and his agents in the next 10 days then it will be down to the clubs to agree the fee, except it to be drawn out if it's an English club. Am at a wedding with him sat so will see if there is anything else I can get out of him and let you know. Let's hope he chooses us as I think he would be a great addition.

Hello ladies!

Disney felt the need to come onto the football (LFC) page. And try and give us banter about Sig joining Spuds instead of us. The brashness and audacity of you Disney mate, is second to none.

Do you forget what has happened to United today? Pogba is off to Juve for money, the same reason Sig went to Spuds. Fryers could be off and he or his agent havn't even phoned Slir Alex lol. And the news that every single United fan was dreading was released today. With the Glazers floating some of your shares today means they are going absolutely no-where.

Now tell me Disney mate, who's had a worse day?

Cheers

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96 {Ed004's Note - I have found today a good day personally. Weather has been brilliant and the news that the Glazers are raising finances to pay off the debts so we can compete more in the market is brilliant. I am struggling to see where it is that we should be disappointed? The Glazers have only ever taken money out of the club to pay interest payments which we will no longer have to pay if there is no debts except for the management fee's they pay themselves which they are entitled to and it is only (I say only because it could be much more) 6 million. The shares we are offering don't pay dividends, therefore the 110 million operating profits (last years figure which will increase with new sponsorship deals etc) can be spent on the club. Our owners haven't got involved in the running of the club and let the MANAGER decide who he wants and who we should try to sign in the market. Whenever the squad has needed an injection of cash, ie last year, and the year we signed Nani, Anderson etc it has happened and I think it is happening again as Fergie a few days ago stating we are working on more deals along with us getting the bargain of the summer so far with the signing of the Bundesliga player of the year for 12 million who oozes quality and class along with the youngster who every top team in England were looking at and this summer is shaping up nicely. Also take into consideration our sponsorship deals, such as Nike's will only increase and the fact we have been buying the land around Old Trafford, that would imply we will expand our stadium. Therefore I personally think we are in good financial state and have a good enough squad to win or atleast compete for the title.}

Believable6 Unbelievable1

We have lost Pogba which is a blow personally as I rated him highly, however him leaving will not make us any weaker than we were last season as he was yet to make the first team. Couldn't care less about Fryers, nowhere near as good as Blackett who is two years his junior.

And finally the floatation is VERY good news for our club. Not sure why this is a bad day as we will be debt-free soon enough and we will be able to compete with City, something Liverpool will never be able to do. So to sum up my day, bad news regarding Pogba, but will not effect our team that finished 30+ points ahead of you last season and we will soon be debt-free. I would say I have had a cracking day.

I would be slightly worried if I was a Liverpool fan Bliar, Suarez, Reina, Skrtel etc being sold and losing out to Spurs trying to sign Sigurrdsson. Liverpool's decline continues.

Sydney!

Agree4 Disagree0

Thanks for your gracious reply and reading my post Ed mate. We all knew that the Glazers want to clear the debt but how long is this going to take? Eventually when/if the debt is clear other teams will be miles ahead. If you United fans think that the FFP rules will make things easier for , then think again. City have already proven that there is and always will be a way round such restraints. City will just sponsor their pitch and make 200 mill, simples.

No United fan should be happy about today news mate. Like I said, it just proves the Glazers are going absolutely no-where.

Be afraid, be very afraid. Time to get out the green and gold scarves (if you have one) lol

We should do all we can to sign RVP now. He's a great forward, would be a brilliant partner for Rooney and mentor for Wellbeck. Slightly older than we'd want but if we could get him for £20m that would be a great deal. The art of building a successful team is sometimes down to pragmatic compromises and we need to do well in Europe next year. RVP would greatly assist that.

Believable2 Unbelievable4

£15m wouldn't be a bad move. Personally I think he has already agreed his big money City move in principle.

Sydney when I heard he wasnt discussing a new contract I thought that however he has come out and said that he has not discussed money. The conspiracy theorist in me wondrrs if he is maybe coming to old trafford and the money comment is a jibe at city

Where do people think Davide Petrucci's best position is striker, behind the striker, out wide or where?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Central midfield, the slightly more attacking central midfielder of a midfield two.

Sydney!

Cheers Syd I always thought hed make a god right winger coming in on his left foot but maybe he could be our answer along with Tunnicliffe who i think is sensationally talented

Agree1 Disagree0

I guess Tunners and Petrucci would make a good midfield partnership, but I think Petrucci is a little slow to be a winger. He tends to dwell on the ball a little too much. It would be frightening to know where Petrucci would be now had he not been injured for two seasons.

I think it's as clear as day that Mancini has got his man. RVP seen in a Manchester cafe. I have no doubt that we would have spoken to him, but City is where he will end up. He says it's not a decision based on money so if that's the case it could be either us or City, but too be fair they all say it's nothing to do with money, but we all know it plays a major part in their decision.

Sydney!

Won't go into boring details but I have this from a director of AIB bank in Ireland. He explained reason doing this is that jp morgan over valued Facebook and are in trouble over it so only way of finding out true value is to dip there toe in the water and see. Glazers know that USA market won't buy united but it'll give them the value before they go to the Asian market.

Believable4 Unbelievable0

That makes no sense, having a track record of a failed IPO in US would massively de-value any subsequent IPO in Asia!

DodgyBanter

Agree0 Disagree2

Let me explain dodgy. United had always intended going straight to the Asian market as this is where 60% of our fan base is and that's where the money is at present. Forbes came out and put a £1.4b value on the club and jp Morgan had it at £1.8b. Now the Asian market is slightly sceptical about jp Morgan's value after the Facebook thing. So the glazers go to there home market with 5% known quite well that amount will be snapped up and make jp Morgan value look more realistic. One major point everyone is missing is that SAF won't go on for ever and some people are predicting that a bad start by his replacement could do huge damage to value,so glazers want out before he goes.

With Fergie saying that Berbatov will stay next season, and James Rodriguez saying he's staying at Porto, it looks to me that Fergie's two deals he's 'working on' are for a left back and a central midfielder.

I think unfortunately the left back will be Leighton Baines for around £12 million. Although, Sydney! said we were enquiring to PSV maybe for Willems or Strootman.

The other has to be a central midfielder either Luka, Joao Moutinho or Yohan Cabaye. I don't think Anderson will leave and I think a midfield of 3 will be used. Giving us: the new signing, Carrick, Anderson, Shinji, Powell, Scholes, Cleverley, Giggs and youngsters like Petrucci, Tunners etc. all backing the midfield. Although Shinji will probably play wide left?

Not a bad team really with tonnes of depth if you look at it:

DDG
Rafa Smalling Vidic Evra
New Signing Carrick Anderson/Cleverley/Scholes
Nani/Toni Rooney Shinji/Nani

With Jones/Evans/Baines/Rio all covering the defence
Giggs/Powell/Young/Park/And two of the three mentioned above
Hernandez/Berbatov/Welbeck all adding back up, up top.

tbir.

Believable1 Unbelievable1

Whats wrong with Leighton Baines?

Name me a better leftback based in the Premier League who's first name isn't Ashley.

Agree4 Disagree0

You start by saying we are signing baines then don't mention him in the squad and put a player worse than him at left back?

What exactly is unfortunate about signing the 2nd best left back in England with tonnes of experience and quality who will improve our 1st XI?

GDS

Agree3 Disagree0

Strootman is a centre midfielder, not a left back.

Last season I thought the Inter left back on loan at QPR (is it Taewo?) was very good. But I agree Baines was right up there after Ca$ley.

DodgyBanter {Ed004's Note - Milan left back}

Agree0 Disagree1

DodgyBanter

Strootman plays for PSV as well, and Sydney said we were negotiating with PSV. That's what i meant, not that he was a left back.

GDS
Also, yeah very true that Baines is the 2nd best left back in the premier league, but we already have an experienced LB in evra, why sign another one - surely it is best to either tie down Fryers and use him as back up to Evra or sign someone like Emilio Izaguirre?

tbir.

Agree0 Disagree2

Tblr,

I have never seen Izaguirre play just heard lots of things on here, have you seen him much or just picking a name out of the air? Bear in mind how poor the Scottish league is as well.

I have seen Baines play and he is quality. I have also seen Evra in every match he has played for 2 years and he is far from what we expect from a United player, we need somebody experienced to fill the void left by Evra 2 years ago when either his legs went or he decided he couldn't be bothered tracking back anymore!

GDS

Agree1 Disagree0

GDS,
via Sky i've seen quite a lot of Izaguirre, he's looked very good both offensively and defensively, fast, good crosser of the ball, good tackler, willing to track back - unlike Evra. So he's looked good, albeit in a poor league. I think he'd be a good addition and cheap too, only 26, and I think with a year's experience under Fabio's belt at QPR both could fight each other for the LB spot from 2013 onwards.

tbir.

Agree0 Disagree0

Tbir,

You are not the first person to give a similar opinion of him so it may be a good move. I don't think we should be upset if we get Baines though, he is better than Evra and would step up at United I am sure.

GDS

Agree0 Disagree0

GDS,

Yeah i suppose so, most left backs are a better than Evra at the moment!

I think some people have gone way over board with this flotation and the things said in the file about not being able to compete in the market .... the only clubs we cant compete with on a financial basis are Real Madrid, Man City, Chelsea and PSG and this whole flotation is to test the water and see if the club is valued at the same as what the Glazers personally value it at and they will sell more shares if there happy resulting in a clearance of the debt and then we will run as a profitable club as we do anyway but will be paying zero interest or debt apart from the footballing day to day costs etc

Believable0 Unbelievable1

I agree. People have flipped out but nothing has actually changed. We can compete just as well now as we could yesterday before the announcement! I think the flotation is a positive. Some people don't understand the merits of clearing the debt - i.e. reducing the amount we pay in interest payments leaving more for other uses - and just see it as the Glazers taking yet more out of the club

Gav

Agree0 Disagree0

Gav - Only one problem, if or when the debt is cleared / reduced there is no guarantee that any extra money would be made available for the club. There is nothing stopping the Glazers just pocketing the extra cash and leaving the club funding for transfers etc as it is now.
I don't follow the feeling that with the debt reduced / cleared that the funding will change that much, why should it, the club has been successful at a certain level of funding and as long as that continues the Glazers have no need to free up anymore funds for the club. Only when the club's success falters and the profit starts to fall will the Glazers have anything to worry about, then they will have to consider injecting extra cash, but until then they can keep 'milking' the club.

Keanooh

Agree0 Disagree0

Keanooh, A debt-free Manchester United would make over £100m in profits every season. They may take £30m or so in dividends and that still leaves an awful lot of cash to play around with.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

Keanooh,

The clubs success has faltered. The only way the Glazers can make any money is if the club is successful, so they may not have the love for the club as a reason for wanting United to succeed but they still need the club to be successful.

They will ask the manager how it can be successful and give him money as they see fit. So far it has been decent, we cannot compete with silly money but we can buy the players we have always tried to buy, nothing has really changed since the PLC days.

The Glazers have cut costs within the club and created a monster. The issue myself and everybody else has is the interest being paid back on the loan, which is sucking money from the club. If this loan can be paid off there will be no interest payments, meaning the '1 million pound every 4 days' Mr Kloot keeps banging on about will actually go back into the club to spend on making the club better.

Today could be the beginning of something great for United, I can't really see any negatives to it.

The Glazers haters seem to have decided whatever they do they will hate them, but the club has been successful since they took over and if they do what we expect them to do now that the club has started to become less successful it could be great for the club.

Exciting times I am sure you agree...

GDS

Agree1 Disagree0

Keanooh, we can all sit here and guess how much money would be available but even if it's around the same I would still rather us be debt free tbh. My personal opinion is we will have a little more to spend on transfers and possibly wages but not a whole lot more. It's not like we're light years away from all the top clubs

Gav

Agree0 Disagree0

Syd / Gav / GDS - I totally agree a debt free club can only be a plus and is something any sane Utd supporter wants. My concern is that the success of Utd will help to fund the other failings within the Glazer empire, hence any additional cash will be 'milked' off by them to keep their other interests going.
At best I agree with GAV whereby there may be a small amount of additional money made available. I certainly don't see us ending up with the huge amounts of excess cash for transfers that some people are talking about.

Keanooh

Agree0 Disagree0

Keanooh,

This may be the case, but knowing the club has no debt has to be a positive. If it does not go towards transfers etc then we can complain then, by that point there may be another sugardaddy club we have to deal with in the Premier League, we may not be top dogs anymore, who knows.

What we do know is that if we can get rid of the debt we are assuring that we will be around for a long time, and just the name Manchester United will make money long into the future.

We may not be top of the league forever, but we will always have a team to support, and for me that is all I need.

I see alot of us are sceptical about this plan of the Glazier's, I actually see it as the first real decent thing they have done since they got here.

If their plan really is using the first £64m to test the market then I hope it works for them. That way like some are saying they will put up more of the club meaning they can wipe out their debt. I think once that debt is gone they will do good for us.

This is the first time I have stuck up for them and I know it is all down to them we are in this mess but they have still run the club in a respectable way and they have still made us vast profit since they came. If they can keep that up once the debt is gone then I would be happy for them to stay.

They never interfere with our transfer procedings like Abromavich and they have provided us with something like £50m a year transfer kittys. (I do think we have had some money there that Fergie has refused to blow on stupid demands).

I understand some of you, if not most of you will share this view but I am glad to see them trying to make amends and do good for the club. (Even if some of it is for personal wealth, they own us as a business and is that not why they become business men, for the money?)

When we have splashed our cash it has not always worked (Berbs and Veron) so maybe those factors hold us from spending silly money in the markets.

I am having a serious rethink about the Glaziers and if they can free us from this debt by themselves then I am happy for them to stay, I dont want a sugar daddy arab running our club.

I have been away the last few days blowing s**t up and luckily I seem to have missed a load of financial speak haha but I would like to add my congrats to Toni V.

Hopefully this shows a fair few youngsters that big injuries and big buck chasing agents do not have to make big impact on your career. He has fought back from what could have been a career threatening injury and shown us exactly how hard work, dedication, fight, a will to win, enthusiasm and a joy of playing can result in prestigious awards in becoming the next owner of our famous No 7 shirt.

This guy sacked his agent in an age where many have multiple money grabbing leeches in their entourage. That imo shows the great level of respect he must hold the club in as he must feel he will get offered what he is worth and he is more than happy to take that.

Hats off to him I say. A true gent and a top player. I am so glad he has been given the number 7 and hope many other pro's across the whole footballing world (especially youngsters) take note and follow his lead.

Well done Toni V our new No 7!

I really hope investors don't take the bait and realise they won't get a decent investment bearing in mind glazers will hold majority control. I wish we would all take a stand and boycott the season tickets and merchandise till they fail and sell out to someone who actually has money . How the on earth powers that be let them finance us with debt I'll never accept . Yeah we have all heard this before but it's ironic that they wait until the regulars have renewed their season tickets but unfortunately there's alway someone to snap them up. Like the majority I love united and nothing will stop that but I just wish we would all back what's best . First comes the club for us and money for them ! Time to renew a glazers out campaign and upset the market. Who's in ?cause they know as we're not playing due to season break there won't be much backlash even though we knew it was coming! SHANDY ! {Ed002's Note - Then they could sell Rooney to pay the interest - neat plan.}

Believable2 Unbelievable3

I'm not in, sorry

IMO we're in this position now and we need to get out of it. Putting our club in further immediate financial danger is not the answer for me. The debt is going down slowly and will go down further with the flotation money. The ONLY thing the Glazers have done to benefit us is increase revenues, in a big way. So if the plan comes together - we get debt to a managable level whilst our revenues are still through the roof - then we could prospectively be in a great position. Relative success in the short term is of course essential to maintaining revenue so we do need investment in the squad now. But I do think/hope that is available to SAF, this summer at least. So I'm holding out for this outcome rather than wanting to go down the 'boycotting' route. But then perhaps I am an optomist!

Your post does beg the question though, who was in charge of choosing/accepting the Glazers offer to buy United and did they know our club was going to be lumbered with debt by them? If so, it makes you kinda mad

Gav

Ed002 ?

If we become debt free as a club how much in dividends can the Glazers take ? all the profits or a certain amount? {Ed002's Note - If they sell 35% of the club to become debt free they will not be able to take it all. I would not worry about it.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Okay i will its just i see so many negative posts about this flotation but i cant find any negativity toward it surely the Glazers trying to clear the debt to free up more towards the transfer kitty is good no matter what ? also do you think it is possible in this current economic market that the shares could be bought for the price they want to clear the debt?

Agree0 Disagree0

Hmmm that's interesting Ed, sorry to be a pain but is there a certain percentage they must float in order to be able to take dividends? (If the answer is way more complex than that don't feel the need to explain lol!)

Is the Glazers' $100m flotation a simple pre-cursor to see how much the United stock is actually worth ? If investors can't get enough of it and for argument sake that represents 5% of the club ($2bn overall valuation) then my simple arithmetic tells me we could become debt free by say selling off 35% of the shares.

If this were sold on the open (stock) market it would be bought by pension fund managers / unit trusts etc with no one major stakeholder other than the Glazers holding I assume a Boardroom-controlling 65% of the shares still.

Other than a mega rich oil daddy coming in that would represent considerable progress would it not, i.e. :

for the fans - club becomes debt-free

for the Glazers - their overall control may be slightly diluted but not so much that they didnt retain overall operational and strategic control of the club

I appreciate the 'downside' for the Glazers is when they eventually come to sell they only have 65% of the value of the club at that point to realise and there may need to be an open vote as to what new bid for the club was accepted.

I can see a Halesini Memo coming on... Dear Joel ...

with regards to the ipo and the $100m is only a holding figure so that they can get the paperwork in. The valuation of the IPO will only be clear when the offer price and number of shares on offer is published. That also gives a very specific valuation of United. My guess would be an IPO worth $400-500m. The underwriters and the Glazers will be haggling over the price per share as we speak. market conditions will have the final say, I suspect.

Does anyone else think Powell will have a part to play at OT next season. Looks like a loan is out of the question now he's got his squad number

RR

Believable1 Unbelievable0

If he stays in the squad he will be given a chance eventually, whether that's in a CC game or 20 minute cameo or as a replacement for injury. One things for sure - if he delivers when given the chance SAF will have no problem in rewarding him with more playing time. So it's down to Powell and whether he impresses when given the chance, I would say

We've seen Smalling, Jones & Hernandez all take the chance early in their United careers and be rewarded for it. Even though Powell may be younger than one or 2 of those were the principle will be the same I'm sure

Gav

Agree1 Disagree0

It is a fairly low squad number too, not that I am saying it means he is going to start every game but it normally indicates a decent role within the club.

So Ed have i got this right?

The Glazers want to test 100m dollars of shares on the exchange to see what there worth and then if they are at a price that would deem good they would sell 25-30 percent of shares which would be around 600million to completely smash the debt and run as a profitable club so therefore we would once again become a lethal force in the market {Ed002's Note - Pretty much.}

Seen this on football365, worth a read:

Mediawatch has never been 'the other man', getting into a relationship with a lady before that lady's previous relationship has technically ended, but if we had, we would not necessarily be surprised if that lady turned out to be a great big floozy, who ran off with some dashing type called Alessandro she met at the gym.

Sir Alex Ferguson apparently isn't familiar with such a theory either, if his reaction to Paul Pogba dicking Manchester United around, then eventually leaving for Italy is anything to go by.

"Pogba signed for Juventus a long time ago as far as we're aware," said Fergie.

"(It) is disappointing. I don't think he showed us any respect at all so, to be honest," he said.

"I'm quite happy that if they carry on that way, they're probably better doing it away from us."

Of course, this is forgetting the circumstances in which Pogba signed for United in the first place, from Le Harve in 2009.

The French club believed they had an arrangement with the then-16-year-old Pogba and his family, only for United to swipe the midfielder from under their noses with promises of cash, cash and cash.

They said at the time: 'The player and his parents refused to keep the arrangement because Manchester United offered very high sums of money to the parents of the (player) with the aim of obtaining the transfer of their son.

'At a time when numerous parties - including at European Union level, governmental (level), or within Fifa or Uefa - are speaking out against the 'trading of minors,' Manchester United does not hesitate to uproot a 16-year-old kid.'

Respect indeed

A little off-topic my brothers and sisters but how do you all think the Top 4 will finish up next season ?

I appreciate a lot depends on signings etc however for me:

1st - United: Beaten on goal difference with a new Attacking Midfield threat and a returning defensive titan in Vidic I think these 2 'new' signings alone will bridge the current gap with City. In the League at least.

2nd - Arsenal: Shock horror etc but there is no doubt that Arsenal on song play some of the best football in Europe. But for their woeful start to the campaign they would have been much closer to the table-topping 89 points. RVP leaving ? Most likely but I like Wenger's style of play and believe there's good reason why Arsenal are perma-Top4.

3rd - City: Playing as Champions will bring them down to earth a bit. They will still be the team to beat at home but everyone will be trying that couple of % points harder in the tough away ties and most likely they will have a better longer run in Europe too which will detract from their League form.

4th - Chelski: Our Least Favourite Russian Mobster / Oil Tycoon will invest heavily for sure for 1213 however 6th place finish last season shows how off the pace they are. Hazard may well come in and flourish but one new wonderkid does not a team make. Hopefully. Di Matteo at the helm means ageing Terry, Lampard, Cole etc will still be in the First XI.

And yes I did say 4 but:

5th - scousers: Whilst their demise of recent years has been piss-funny one has to think that the marriage between Brendan Rodgers and Anfield could be a fruitful one if he's given the time and the cash to adopt his brand of total football. Success, IF it happens, wont be overnight but they will be closer than in last 5 or 6 years for sure next season.

6th - Tottingham: AVB will do better than most predict as his Porto record was second only to Mourinho's. Maybe his 'clear-out the old guard' role at Chelski was always going to end in disaster as he may have tried it a season too early as Champs League result tells us. Modric seemingly not playing in a Spurs shirt next season will be a big loss though and at best repeating their 4th place finish will be the highest they can achieve.

7th - Newcastle: Expect a tougher season for them than last year and would be surprised if 2 or 3 of their current first team weren't snapped up elsewhere.

8th - Everton: Just because they always finish around here!

If all goes well we will win our title back but with a fair few questions over some of the returning players Vida, Fletch, Ando and Clevs I think 1-3 will be very close this year with possibly City nicking another title.

Europe ? Thats a different ball game and we wont be progressing there unless a new CM comes in.

I don't know Ed. No Adebayor, no Redknapp and possibly no Modric they are big chunks out of that team. Yes they will sign a few but AVB may not get the right guys in and it all implodes for him again. Same can be said of Rodgers and Pool but if they keep their better players and add to the squad then i see an improvement to maybe 6th and Spurs could be the victims.

This of course would be subject to change due to signings of all those teams so in a few months I may have changed my mind ha

Jono

Agree0 Disagree0

Jono, Spurs will cope without HR and Adebayor. They will sign a new forward this summer and still have VDV, Sigurdsson, Bale, Sandro & Parker. Vertonghen, Walker, Ekotto & Dawson in defence and Possibly Lloris in goal. This is a better side than Liverpool's especially when they sell Suarez, Reina and Skrtel? Everton have Gibbo, Naismith and Pranjic so it looks like their midfield is strengthened and Jelavic will get their goals next season. Sorry about the cut and paste....

"We are highly dependent on members of our management, coaching staff and our players. Competition for talented players and staff is, and will continue to be, intense. Our ability to attract and retain the highest quality players for our first team, reserve team and youth academy as well as coaching staff is critical to our first team's success in league and cup competitions and increasing popularity and, consequently, critical to our business, results of operations, financial condition and cash flow. Any successor to our current manager may not be as successful as our current manager. A downturn in the performance of our first team could adversely affect our ability to attract and retain coaches and players. In addition, our popularity in certain countries or regions may depend, at least in part, on fielding certain players from those countries or regions. While we enter into employment contracts with each of our key personnel with the aim of securing their services for the term of the contract, the retention of their services for the full term of the contract cannot be guaranteed due to possible contract disputes or approaches by other clubs. Our failure to attract and retain key personnel could have a negative impact on our ability to effectively manage and grow our business."

So this is the club saying we have to spend to stey on par with other clubs. Obviously they never guarantee success but at least they are making prospective buyers aware that we will be spending. Well thats how I read it and my i.q aint up to many of your standards!!

Jamesmack8

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Looks bleak there in black and white doesn't it but that is the reality of our club at the moment. On the knife edge a little

However, it is good though to see in print that they do see the need for success on the field to get success off the field. Although obviously they would, they're not dull they are astute business people after all

I'm hoping for 3 things:
1) we get money to spend this summer and invest it wisely
2) that leads to some success in the short term
3) our debt get's cleared in the medium term leaving us in a v healthy financial situation whilst the squad is still healthy and successful

This summer is crucial to that sequence of events. Powell and Kagawa is a great start. One top CM and a better LB than Evra and I'm happy with stage 1 of the plan

Not a red morning

Glazer's appear to be still struggling to pay the debt - no surprise there and their management of the Club continues to diminish our power.

Berbatov staying ( ? ) - just don't get this , more so when Fergie appeared to keep him out of the spotlight last year. Can't help but think that if he had played more regularly then we would have won the league.

Pogba to Juve

Fryers likely to leave.

I was depressed enough last summer and genuinelly thought that this year would be a major turning point for us.

Worried.

Believable3 Unbelievable4

You do not need to be worried about any of the things you are worrying about. If Fryers wants to leave then goodbye, does anybody in their right mind think United -> Spurs is a good career progression? We obviously didn't give him what he wanted, closeness to his best buddy Ravel.

As Fergie said, Pogba wanted to go, he didn't want him to stay anyway.

How has anything that happened yesterday shown that the Glazers are 'struggling to pay the debt'? The club is fine and floating on the stock exchange would be brilliant for the club from what I can see. A lot of fans don't like that we cannot see what money is spent on, as far as I am aware this will all now be made public.

I don't think Berbatov will stay, all paper talk, it might go on all summer but I am guessing he will leave towards the end. He did not play last year because he did not fit in at all, I am unsure which game you think he should have played in for us to win the league, he was terrible in the European home games we played him in, and perhaps more importantly, he played in the Blackburn home defeat!

I think realistically, it's Real Madrid and Chelsea that'll battle it out for Luka Modric. Daniel Levy would obviously prefer to strike a deal with RM to get him out the league, but if that doesn't work then Chelsea will be able to offer more money (wage packages wont make much of a difference to where Modric will end up). He's also said in the past that he's settled in London and would like to remain there.

Therefore i think it's a two horse race for Joao Moutinho between Man United and Spurs. He wouldn't cost as much as Luka and wages would be less but he's still good enough for the job, performed very well at international level which is usually a good indicator to show how a player can adapt.

Eds, you opinion on the likely hood of Moutinho to the PL? and a rough estimate of the price he could go for? £25-30m perhaps.

Thanks,

Ozwald {Ed004's Note - I think the price is about right and I think he would be able to cope in the PL}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

As Ed002 would write {Chelsea?}

I do not think Chelsea are a team in the running mate going by what Ed says.

Sydney!

Agree1 Disagree0

How come? We know they had serious interest in the last window. They have the money, no doubt about that and it's also a position they'd be looking to strengthen considering heavy investment has been made in forwards department. Syd, personally would you like to see Moutinho at United next season? I think he's just the type of player we could use as i really doubt we'll get a defesive/holding midfielder if you take into account what SAF said a couple of months ago about United only ever having box-to-box type players.

Ozwald

Agree0 Disagree0

Oz, Im not sure the Ed believes there was serious interest by Chelsea. Might be wrong though. Either way Ed002 doesn't seem to like talking about it I'm guessing because of the stress it might bring from posters. Which is fair enough :)

Anyway, I'm a huge Modric fan and really want us to get him. But If we can't I'd still be stoked if we got Moutinho tbh. I'm sure he'd do well and would add a bit more in terms of ball-wnning to Modric in all fairness. By all accounts he's done very well in Portugal and was a class act consistently at the Euro's. An excellent 2nd choice IMO

Buying Modric, Kagawa and Baines on top of Vidic's return is going to completely turn our team around I feel.

I truly believe that if Vidic alone would have been there last season we would have done so much better.

I am really looking forward to next season as I feel Chelsea and City will push us all the way but if we do sign Modric and have Vidic fit next season we will regain our crown.

City should be prepared to up their game as I feel they will get a major shock from us next season. I hope we are ruthless and not even let them get close.

1redarmy

Believable3 Unbelievable1

I think City will face something next season they haven't faced for a long time - playing as Champions. We've proven we can handle it but City need to get used to the idea of being on top and everyone upping their game against you. City will be there or thereabouts given the depth of squad they have and the finances available to them however I personally think even with Kagawa, a returning Vidic and injury-free Cleverley we could clinch the league.

Where we need the additional investment though is for Europe where to be blunt we were just woeful last season.

That's where the likes of a Modric, Moutiniho or Cabaye (yes I keep mentioning him in the hope we will put a bid in!) would take us to the next level. And yes I appreciate they are different players offering different playing options.

Winning the league back is of paramount importance next season. But personally I think giving his advancing years winning the Champs League will take equal priority with Uncle Fergus. Hence the need for squad depth.

The below link best describes what the Glazers are planning to do by floating the club on the stock exchange.

Unfortunately the point that runs throughout the piece is how the money raised will be used to pay off a portion of the 400 and something million pounds debt that the Glazers have landed on the club. When it's floated it will make a significant amount of money and can be compared to the facebook situation, i.e that the name and image of the brand is enough to prompt investors to buy shares.

Now I can't see it raising as much as Facebook of course, but share prices should rise quite high before dropping to something much lower when people realize that, A. They will probably get no dividends from the shares as the ownership is being re-routed through the Caymans (explained in the attached link) and, B. Owning shares will yield no decision making power as the Glazers will retain all of the most powerful type of shares (also explained).

This will solve a short term problem of paying off some of the debt, how much though is hard to gauge considering they haven't released how many shares they will float. But in the long term this could hurt the club quite badly in the sense that it will become drastically undervalued, the shares will continue to drop in price because no one wants to buy into a company that gives neither dividends nor decision making powers.

You will then be left with lots of people owning shares, yet they won't be able to sell them due to lack of interest and desire on the stock exchange. This will cause the share price to drop and possibly entice someone for a take over bid, then the Glazers can drastically over value the price of the shares which hold the decision making powers in order to gain the best deal for themselves.

In essence it's a stop-gap, most likely to fix another problem the Glazers have encountered elsewhere in their business empire and they are using United to solve part of it.

Apologies for the pessimistic outlook guys and the amount of information in the post but that's the way I'm reading into it. I doubt it will affect the transfer situation too much, the money set out for transfers certainly shouldn't decrease, but it most likely won't increase by much either! A final cynical point to add...if the Glazers are planning to entice a takeover, the signing of a (it pains me to say this because he's a quality signing) highly rated Asian footballer certainly won't do them any harm, especially considering that they toyed with the idea of floating on the Singapore stock exchange not too long ago.

Andy

Believable5 Unbelievable2

Surely if the shares did become hard for the investors to sell in the future then the Glazers would swoop in and buy them at a lower price with the dividends they are entitled to from the club. Slowly buying the club back.

I cannot see how it can be bad for our club long-term if the shares do become undervalued. As long as the club have received the cash and paid the debts then what is the issue? Especially not having to pay an annual dividend too. I cannot see how this can be bad for the club if the cash is secured.

'But in the long term this could hurt the club quite badly in the sense that it will become drastically undervalued, the shares will continue to drop in price because no one wants to buy into a company that gives neither dividends nor decision making powers."

Andy mate - stick to economics - the above statement is completely clueless.

Agree1 Disagree0

Sydney,

That would be a positive though and we all know nobody is allowed to be positive or optimistic where the Glazers are concerned or we are classed as 'Glazer Lovers'.

I am expecting RFT here any minute to abuse both of us for suggesting this may be good for the club and saying anything positive.

RFT will think this is the worst thing to happen to the club ever without knowing anything about it lol.

GDS

Agree0 Disagree0

Sydney - that is a good point, but the issue is with the Glazers splitting the shares into two types, A and B. The B shares retained by the Glazers are much more powerful than the A shares sold on the exchange (or possibly the other way around, can't quite remember!). It just means that the shares controlled by the Glazers will become more valuable than they actually are. It's just another sign of the Glazers putting their own financial problems and interests ahead of those of the club.

And Mr. I'll criticize but leave no name...the statement makes sense actually, and it's an economic principle used to make a larger profit on something that isn't actually worth it.

Andy

Agree0 Disagree1

Very optimistic about this arent you Sydney! and GDS i dont really understand finances etc to a degree of trying to talk about it to many little details but can i ask are they doing this whole thing just to get a rough valuation or actually trying to clear debt personally i think there thinking of selling if the price is right which could bring in anybody and could cripple is with more debt once agian or could bring in a new owner without the loans etc which is what we all want

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree with the above point...i reckon they're moving towards a sale. Most likely to Asian investors...who knows, could be a good thing. Generally when the large Asian investors are involved they want fast results no matter the cost! Queue the onslaught of abuse from City fans about how we bought everything we won!

I'm pretty sure I already outlined the difference in share types and what they do? twice actually! The shares can become both over and under valued (depending on what type of shares are being traded the most).

Andy

Agree1 Disagree0

No name, I do think this is all good for the club, but I do think the Glazers are also thinking about their dividends too. Something they will certainly start taking when we are debt-free. I am not convinced we will start spending more on players or wages either. Not a lot more anyway.

On your final point about a 100% floatation, I think that is unlikely as the Glazers could sell part and sit on a goldmine taking over £30m a year in dividends. Also Ed002 may have to correct me here, but if we were floated 100% then we would be very safe and still debt-free. However 30-35% is likely to be floated, not 100%.

I want to be sure of something:

What did happen in all this Pogba process?

If he's so talented why was not given more first team opportunity?

He's a player looking for football chances, he hadn't here, so he's free to look elsewhere. He showed no respect at all in all this process as SAF said, but why we had to come at this situation if the normal procedure would be to renew with all great prospect even before 1 year left?

He may not get first team at Juve right away, but here would be the same.

So let's move on and fair-play. Wish the guy luck.

Alas Sydney, who has the the greater debt ? United with zero debt? you dont have zero debt.you owe nearly half a billion and goin to markets cause ye dont have the money to service your debt. Agree0 Disagree0

R_R, you do realise that if the club successfully floats 30-35% of shares on the NYSE, then that money will go towards our debt making us debt-free?

Our Nike deal that was signed back in 2001 is also the same amount as your Warrior deal which is £25m a year. However we do have the DHL kit sponsor too which is a further £10m a year. So I think if you do the calculations you will see that we get £35m to your £25m.

Lets not forget about the Nike deal that we will be negotiating with Nike next year which is an estimated £450m over ten years. That is £45m unless you have difficulty with your maths.

Your Warrior deal is only an extra £13m a year for your club compared to your Adidas deal, you are still making £50m losses mind. Oops ;)

I have word that this stock exchange appeal is purely a test run at the club. This time round they will use the funds raised for the transfers of the club as in the long term the success of the club on the pitch will provide more income than the fee suggested. The £64 million will go along with the original £40 million transfer war chest originally given to fergie. I am delighted to see the back of Pogba as he really has not shown us any respect as SAF has said. It also doesn't bother me if Fryers gets on his bike and leaves - although I really hope Nani does stay. This season I think we will sign (Powell, Kagawa), Baines, Moutinho and maybe one or two others. But the main point of this post is next season's moves as I think that will be SAF's last season and will define the next few years of the club...

I'd say that Barkley, Lewandowski, Rodriguez and a centre back like Papadoplous will be targeted. They will replace Scholes, Giggs/maybe Young, Berbatov (if he stays for a bit). Petrucci and Tunnicliffe will also be fully promoted as will the Keane's. It will be a season every bit as interesting as this one I believe.

I am a huge United fan and love reading the rumours on this page, wishing they would all come true.
But does anybody else agree with me that United have finished their summer spending, and apart from Kagawa, United will start next season with the same team as last year. All the midfield problems will still exist and Scholes will still be relied on way too much for someone of his age.
There just isn't any money available to buy quality players. There's been numerous reports that United have placed bids on a number of players, but in my opinion a lot of those bids are just speculative, United know they will be rejected, but it keeps fans, like me, thinking that maybe, just maybe Utd will pull off some high profile signings before the new season.
Unfortunately I suspect it will be another season of battling displays, whilst clubs all around snap up the big names.

Berba is going on tour with the rest of the United squad for pre-season and Sir Alex claims he is still part of his plans. I hope he does stay and gets more game time next season. -JakeW"""

So how much profit did the club make on Pogba, Norwood and Fryers then Gan? You can only sell Berbatov if someone wants to buy him.

Valencia changed his twitter name from 25antov to 7antov guessing he is our new number 7

I believe this is an ill-advised move for Pogba. Juventus have just signed Asamoah and Isla and brought back Giovinco add these to Pirlo, Marchisio, Vidal and to a lesser extent Giacherrini and Pogba will not see much playing time at Juve any time soon. Compare this to Uniteds midfield of Carrick(decent but lacks impact), Scholes and Giggs (ageing), Anderson and Cleverly(unreliable and injury prone) and Fletcher who may never play again. If Pogba wasn't confident of making an impact at United with those midfielders in front of him, then he was right to go. I can see this lads future bouncing around various Serie A clubs on loan/co-ownership, not at Juventus.

First of all, I'm glad that the Pogba saga is finally over, gutted we've lost him, but if he was a bad apple SAF wouldn't take it! Valencia has just confirmed he will wear the number 7 shirt on Twitter, deserved and I have no doubts that he'll do it proud.

Hmmm
ngiak wonders
so many good players turning 'bad apples'
or are man united too poor to 'appreciate' them?
or is it the club policy to make a quick buck
as the main reason to develop youngsters?

I thought Valencia didn't have Twitter?

His twitter is @7antoV not verified but followed by the likes of Clevs, Rio etc.

Whoever posted that pogba is better than powell. You can't really compare them yet I think powell will be better you gotta wait and see wot he does in his first season. I think pogba is good and will probably get better but I think a lot of you over rated him reserve football aint nothing to judge against in my opinion. I don't see him doing much at juventus either cause vidal and asamoah and pirlo are quality players he aint gonna get a game a head of them anytime soon. To sum up in my opinion powell is the real deal and I think the step up will be no problem watched him a lot last season he has a lot of quality

Believable1 Unbelievable2

I'm sorry, butnwhilempowell will be a star, pogba will be an absolute world beater. Good luck to him, gutted we lost him. Been banging on about Morrison and Pogba for a few years to my mates and now we have lost them both. Young players have realised they are a commodity and are milking it. Well, their agents are...

Right then before people start making conclusions before even reading the filing look at some of the stuff in there here are some quotes

"We intend to use all of our net proceeds from this offering to reduce our indebtedness"

"Investment from wealthy team owners has led to teams with deep financial backing that are able to acquire top players"

'' Our indebtedness could adversely affect our financial health and competitive position''

'' UEFA financial fair play rules "could negatively affect our business ... & the performance of our first team"

''MUFC actually state they would use IPO proceeds to reduce debt''

So all of this the money from this will be used to sign Modric or Rodriguez is incorrect finally David debt isn't a problem Gill may have to finally admit the eye watering debt the Glaziers have bought to this football club

''our indebtedness could adversely affect our financial health and competitive position'' and reduce ''the availability of our cash flow to fund the hiring and retention of players and coaching staff.''
what do people make of this statement
jred

Agree0 Disagree0

It is saying we are unable to compete with the sugar daddy owned clubs. Which we all knew anyway. The FFP rulings wouldn't effect us now any financial expert will tell you that, but in 2017 when our current debt would have needed to be refinanced it may well have.

The fact this money is going towards the debt can only be good news. If debt is being cleared then there is more funds for transfers.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

Its saying we are struggling to compete in the transfer market.

i would say its quite the opposite to everything is ok we have plenty of money for transfers.

hopefully in 12months time we will be in a better position to compete for the top players,

We got more for selling Ronaldo than this will raise, where did that money go?

Believable1 Unbelievable0

Well it didnt go on new midfield players

Well im all for it if its going to reduce the debt or go to more transfer funds im happy

im thinking more towards transfers maybe we had a budget of 40million then realised we needed to invest more so get the 60odd million and use that with the funds already available we may be able to sign Baines, Modric/Moutinho, Rodriguez and also a few youngsters

Believable1 Unbelievable0

Its solely to reduce debt "We intend to use all of our net proceeds from this offering to reduce our indebtedness by exercising our option"

Alex Witsel back on the radar according to tomorrow's Daily Express - £20 million. Probably should have just signed him for £6.8 million last summer really....

Nicko

Believable2 Unbelievable0

Isnt' that typical of us, Nicko? We NEVER take the gamble on a player even when he's reasonably priced. We let him go elsewhere, thrive, and have his pricetag double, then show an interest.

The Berbatov transfer, IMO, had a huge mental effect on SAF. He's no longer willing to gamble on players as much as he would have been had Berba been a resounding success.
