I'm sure I'll get some disagreement on this but I think Sterling would be a good purchase for us (not that it's likely to happen).

I agree with all of you who will/might say his final ball and finishing leave a lot to be desired but he's a young player with great speed and the ability to beat players. Indeed, he has all the attributes of a great winger, and where he is weak he has time to improve. With Di Maria, Depay and/or Sterling, we could begin to show the type of dynamism we need to break down the more stubborn EPL defences.

In my opinion the main problem with Sterling is that he has been overplayed. At 19, Liverpool place too much reliance on him, and the pressure has detracted from his performances. This has been exacerbated by his having to play out of position on occasion, as he did against us. It is not dissimilar to Januzaj although to my mind Sterling, at this point in time, is unquestionably the better player.

If we let go of RVP, Evans, Rafael, and with Falcao already gone, giving Wilson the opportunity to understudy Rooney, and bring in Schneiderlin/Kongdogbia and Gundogan, plus a CB and right back, I believe we would have the basis of a team which could compete both domestically and in Europe. If we could replace Rooney with a genuine CF, then we would really be looking good.

04 Jun 2015 21:27:57
i think for only 20 years old he is a top player.
but a big price tag and a move from liverpool to united would bring massive pressure.
i can't for 1 minute believe the scouse would sell to us

Agree1 Disagree1

{Ed025's Note - imagine their pages if that one came true jred?.. :)

04 Jun 2015 22:05:22
Not likely to happen. a) not sure if he is exactly what we need at the minute b) liverpool would sooner lose money than sell to us
c) I am torn as to how good he is going to be, one day I think one of the top players and other days merely a good player.

That said.what price do we put on the pleasure of getting one over Liverpool £30/40/50m?????

Agree1 Disagree0

04 Jun 2015 22:14:19
They would become one of our feeder clubs. We could take him and flog him for double to Real Madrid as part of their british marketing plan as we seem to have been a bit of a feeder club for them in recent years.

Agree1 Disagree0

04 Jun 2015 22:26:23
I would agree he is a very good young player and if the price was right then who knows what could happen. I think like Shaw has said he has been severely over relied on at Liverpool this season and Rodgers for me hasn't given him the best of roles in the team.

Agree with you also JRed that it would be very unlikely to happen but as 025 says it would be chaos all over their page if it did and I for one hope we get him just to see that demise.

Ps. 025 did you get my Everton rumour I posted earlier mate?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i did mate and replied..cheers..

04 Jun 2015 22:38:26
From a football point of view I would prefer Domenico Berardi BUT from a pure comedy point of view Sterling. The melt down would be epic!

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed025's Note - come on LVG..get stirling..you know it makes sense.. :)

04 Jun 2015 22:39:13
It's never going to happen, does anyone else think he is so overrated.if he wasn't English there wouldn't be half the talk of him.

Agree0 Disagree2

{Ed025's Note - but hes is good and he is english leahy mate, and that makes him very lucrative in todays market..

04 Jun 2015 22:50:02
Just seen it on the rumours page mate. Cheers.

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Jun 2015 23:05:46
He is good ed but not brilliant, just imagine the waffle they would be going on about if they had a proper young player like giggs, not many players now that want to play for a club, they play for the money

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - to be fair leahy a lot of that is down to them blood sucking scum of the earth agents, im sure if ryan was playing now he would have a super agent like raiola and be on £300,000 a week mate..

04 Jun 2015 23:12:44
leahy
i think he is a very good player and at 19 has big potential .
but he will never end up at united

Agree0 Disagree1

04 Jun 2015 23:14:56
If he really wanted to come to us and we offer £30-£35m it might be very difficult for Liverpool to resist. He's clearly not signing a new contract, and we have money to burn!!! Just as we have no power over De Gea if he wants to go, so Liverpool have no power over Sterling. They have to sell.

If we could pick up Alvez on a free, Ottomendi for £30, Schneiderlin for £20-£25, and Gundogan for £20, Cech for £15-£20 and pick up maybe £70m from sales of RVP, Nani, Chicharito, Rafael, Evans and De Gea, our net outlay would be well around £80m and our wage bill would probably go down taking into account Falcao's departure too. We'd have an all round physically stronger team, better balance, more speed, and coverage in every position. I really don't think we need Bale or Ronaldo, although I would probably swap either for Di Maria.

Then next year we can address replacing Rooney and a new right back.

Agree3 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i think you should apply for the managers job shawthing..

05 Jun 2015 01:28:36
I think he's massively overrated myself. Decent player with potential, but I don't think he'll be anything more than another Walcott. He's definitely not worth paying the suggested price for.

I honestly believe Depay is a better player and prospect.

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Jun 2015 01:22:09
Put a good word in for me will you. I've just retired so I've got plenty of time on my hands.

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Jun 2015 23:39:22
Good post shaw, that's true about the agents ed,but giggs was a United player a one club man,ed 025 do you think with blatter gone and football going forward will they try to reduce transfer fees and agents fees or will it always be out of control.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - they are a cancer of which there is no cure leahy, they will continue to bleed clubs dry and that train is not stopping mate..

05 Jun 2015 08:46:22
I saw some stats on sterling recently and they were very impressive. Saying that no younger player in the world did certain things that sterling did this season, goals, assists etc. I can't remember exactly what they were but they did get me thinking. It is easy to forget how young these players are, I still think we do it with Jones and smalling to an extent (although Jones hasn't become the player we expected) they are still so young. Sterling has been thrown in at 18 and has impressed, but not shown that he can be world class just yet.

It seems impossible to me but the idea of taking him from liverpool would be wonderful.

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Jun 2015 09:08:56
If he'd even learn to run right, I might warm to him. Looks like my wife running.

Agree1 Disagree0

05 Jun 2015 10:38:10
Or the idiot that used to be on tv that ran around saying, 'chase me' in a very effeminate manner.

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Jun 2015 11:50:09
Interesting argument there

Sterling or Walcott?.

Either way, who would they replace? I had a feeling Mata would get the Playmaker role with Depay DiMaria to work with on the wings. Interesting to see where this all goes.

If we sign Sterling, wouldn't that ultimately mean Beef curtains for Mata? With the rivalry on top, for me it's just not feasible.

I believe thst after ADMs 7 tattoo and his comments this morning, he is staying. Bring in Benzema and we are then formidable. We would need a french buddy for him tho. Varane anyone. ?

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Jun 2015 14:03:22
Sterling will be a fantastic addition but I don't think it will happen. He's very versatile and quick. LVG type of player!

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Jun 2015 19:59:44
Not as good as depay and will go for twice the amount we paid for him.

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Jun 2015 19:40:20
I think most agreement that we need to strengthen in rb cb some say x2 depending on sales out 2 x cm and a striker. (assuming dimaria stays) looking at some of those linked we can understand how people get confused excited and upset or angry the press / twitter along with agents and selling clubs often using our club to create stories or increased bids its very hard as a normal supporter to get any clarity on what is real and what is fiction
Most of what we read is Bull S###
2 players that I would gladly pay top money for are Stones and Coleman. Sorry ed025😃. Stones looks like h will become top class, and I have wanted Coleman to sign for 2years I think they would be very expensive but would be sound investments and IMO lower risk than the likes of varane laporte clyne difrij or dante although perhaps otamendi and alvez are not too risky.
Coleman stones schneiderlin humells or otamendi schweinstiger if we are targeting a striker I believe that Laccazette is best suited to the league and to lvg in terms of his ability to play right across the front line plus he is very very quick

Believable0 Unbelievable0

04 Jun 2015 19:54:22
Stones lower risk than Varane ???

Agree1 Disagree0

04 Jun 2015 19:58:27
I like both of them Ken. Problem is price for both and also lack of experience with Stones, we desperately need our incoming CB/s to bring experience with them imo.

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Jun 2015 20:54:37
Probe not realistic beast but was hoping for stones plusotamendi orhumells

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Jun 2015 21:19:34
Think Stones has the potential to be top class, but potential is all it is right now. We've seen with the likes of Rodwell and Barkely how a player can stagnate. Not saying that's going to happen. But to say he's lower risk than Verane just makes no sense. Verane is proven in the CL, in big games, and for me, looks the real deal. A few more years and he can be the best CB in the world in my opinion

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - we love the guy stand, seems more level headed than jack or ross, the thing with bringing in foreign players is that sometimes the dont adapt to the rigors that the prem brings mate, so they are a gamble just like a youngster..

04 Jun 2015 22:35:56
That is my thoughts exactly ed, I think he looks weak physically and he is suspect in the air but he is not first choice in Madrid after three seasons either, so he is still s risk but a different type of risk

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Jun 2015 23:04:22
Don't get me wrong ed I think stones is going to be a great player. I have to say never been that fussed on Barkley , genuinly believe he is overhyped, but stones looks like he could become the next big thing. Just think Verane, especially with his pace would be what we need right now. Although would be happy with either

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i hope you get verane stand..and john stays with us mate..

05 Jun 2015 11:55:05
I have to agree, Varane is heading for the top. Everytime I watch him I wish we had him. Basically a much better version of Smalling (our vice captain 😕)
Can't see Real selling him at all though.
Stones however. lol

04 Jun 2015 19:01:41
It's getting beyond a joke, how have we let Milner slip through and sign for Liverpool? The transfer window hasn't even opened yet and already we have to stand by and watch rivals snap up the cream of the talent!

Believable4 Unbelievable2

04 Jun 2015 19:43:03
he is a good signing for them. Good player and will give you a 100% percent every time.

Agree5 Disagree1

04 Jun 2015 19:47:49
You must be joking. Just another fickle fan who wants us to buy everybody. Milner is rubbish , and plays for a small team so he is not good enough for us. We are United so we should be after the Messi's and Rinaldo's of this world. Not James Milner. And the window isn't even open yet.

Grow up and go back to playing Football Manager or whatever its called. he he :)

Agree3 Disagree0

04 Jun 2015 19:50:34
I note the sarcasm bren but the truth is he is a decent signing for them, he has more medals than the rest of their squad combined, he has a goodattitude seems to b a top pro has bags of experience and for me is now their best player and will probably be a good voice in the dressing room and I know ed001 won't agree but I think Henderson will lose his place to Milner because Milner is a better player, he might play him as a rub though.
But I take your point I'm not shaking with fear at the news notwithstanding that Milner is now probably one of Liverpool best 3 players IMO

Agree4 Disagree0

04 Jun 2015 19:57:47
I agree GCU, Milner is a very good player. He's a John O'Shea but better. Wont complain, and isn't in it for the money nor the headlines, which is a very rare thing these days.

I sat at the bar with him at the Polo Club in Marbella a couple years back, I was 17 so was with my dad, who is a City fan (I know shhh), and was talking all things City with him. Milner doesn't drink either, he reminds me of a sort of Scholes character, and no not playing style before any Big Boll*x Barry makes a comment haha, and is very down to earth. Good professional, good player, and IMO a brilliant player on a free. He'll be Liverpools best signing this summer by a mile.

Agree0 Disagree0

milner will play cm alongside henderson imo

Agree1 Disagree1

{Ed025's Note - both good runners...but not a brain cell between them..

04 Jun 2015 22:08:21
He is a good solid squad player. He will do well for Liverpool I am convinced and as a free signing you probably won't get better for what they want this year.
We are in a different place. We need to pay the right money, for the right player for the HM and CM roles. too long we have made do and now we need to kick on and get top quality.

Agree1 Disagree0

04 Jun 2015 22:18:38
I think Milner's knuckles are to close to the ground when he's running or dribbling. He's played for Leeds and City. Erm he'd be warmly taken into our hearts? Has he slagged us off in the past? Let him go to Liverpool we need better and he would be another squad player at best, I'd rathe Mccarthy than him.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - keep your hands off supasub!.. :)

may work in a 4,2,3,1

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - if were talking about milner...you could be right mate..

04 Jun 2015 22:29:54
I think Milner is a decent player also. It's funny how the Milners and McCarthy's of this world get looked down upon just because they don't do the most glamorous of jobs but instead do a lot of the dirty work in midfield (which can be tougher in some cases).

Good signing for Liverpool and one that should help them challenge for the Europa league places next season.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i like him JMB, runs all day and a great team player, justva bit jealous hes not coming to us.. :(

04 Jun 2015 22:52:00
Wouldn't worry about him too much Ed. A few good signings and getting rid of some bad apples (the Lukakus of this world) and you lads will finish above the merseyside red next season!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - lets hope so mate..

05 Jun 2015 12:04:03
Can't believe people don't rate Milner. The guy is a machine, I couldn't care less if people take the Mick. I'd have him at United, but he wouldn't be any better off here than he was at city. He is a great signing, I'm shocked Arsenal didn't go all out for him tbh

Agree1 Disagree0

05 Jun 2015 15:17:50
MPEZ - ask the newcastle fans whether Milner is in it for the money or not?
Played against Villa not 2 weeks before and left in a Heartbeat for more money - there's not many and certainly don't think he is one who plays for only the joy, but with the figures quoted who would blame anyone?
agree though that he is a solid player who unfortunately will be an assett to pool

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Jun 2015 17:13:58

The way that Pogba boy and his Juventus team mates are going about this Pogba/United issue this will call withdrawal effects on Pogba one day.Nomatter how unhappy you are because of your father you don't go about gloating and being snobbish, this is where we say in Africa. 1 day that same person will come back and say Manchester United is my home and will not think twice if they call but then no call will ever come because of your tongue

I don't know how many of you will remember, but in January I wrote a transfer analysis report, well over 10,000 words I believe it was.

Which is available here if anyone wants a refresher;

http://goo.gl/NR84B8

anyway, I've just started writing another one now, for this summer and I going to ask if you could all throw me some names of players that we've been linked with besides the obvious.

I'll post it on the News and Views website when it's done.

Also, I started a transfer game (similar to that which we played a couple of years ago) on a google doc which I believe ended up on the others page. So go check it out guys and get signed up!

Ed, if you can post this on the banter page that'll be awesome!

Have a great day!

That's all I've got too moon, just heard stuff from his end and its relitvly quiet from our end, which is usually good unless they're trying to get a contract which it doesn't look like he is. Hope we sign him, he's looked unreal this year in the big games.

04 Jun 2015 14:51:56
I was just wondering whether Man Utd have lined up several more signings, but do not want announce them until we move on some players.

The logic being that if we sign 3-4 new players now other teams interested in our surplus to requirements players such as Nani might offer less as they will know we need to reduce the squad/ get them off the wage bill.

Hopefully Ed Woodward is boxing clever rather than being idle. At least he is not shouting about how much money we have and that we are not affraid to spend like he was previously.

If you are reading Mr Woodward, chec, Otmaendi, Coleman, schneiderlin, schweinsteiger and benzema please!

04 Jun 2015 14:46:01
Looks like it is safe to say we will not be signing dyabala as he has signed for Juve for circa £23.4m.

I suspect that might rule out a move for RVP from juve unless they are going to pair him with dyabala. Speed and movement from the younger striker and aerial power and technique from the older striker. Doesn't sound like a bad mix. We will have to wait and see.

Why oh why do I waste my time?

Daily Star Headline: Depay doesn't want to join, Bale bid confirmed, Fellaini Unhappy.

The gist of these non-stories was a) Memphis is excited about joining us, but wants a vacation first, b) Moyes was desperate to sign Bale but he had his heart set on RM, and c) Fellaini believes he could play DM if the manager wanted, which the Daily Star equates to him thinking he's being played out of position.

In my desperation for some real transfer news I am prepared to trawl these fictions numerous times a day. But here's the rub: besides showing how dangerous the internet can be as a disinformation venue, which could and probably is extending into all areas of so called "knowledge", it shows that I am a COMPLETE LOSER!!!!! If reports are true and we are interested in bringing in another striker/forward (which makes sense with Falcao all but gone and RVP potentially moving on), what are people's thoughts on Lacazette?

I've been watching this lad all year and firmly believe that he would be a wonderful addition to our attacking line. With Rooney in the centre, and two extremely quick forwards around him (Depay and Lacazette on either side), the pace, power and finishing abilities of that front 3 would be mouth-watering.

Believable6 Unbelievable0

{Ed004's Note - If Lacazette is signed I think we should be looking to gradually replace Rooney. There will be plenty of rotation especially as Lacazette will need time to settle. But signing Depay and him would only be a good thing. Signing two top goal scorers in their respective leagues would certainly help in the goal scoring department.}

04 Jun 2015 13:33:32
i still think we will go for a lesser name

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Jun 2015 13:51:39
Lacazette would be my first choice striker to come in. He has been amazing this season and he reminds of Aguero.

If he were to come it would obviously spell the end to RVP and even Rooney as our first striker.

Agree3 Disagree0

04 Jun 2015 14:00:00
On occasion a player emerges that I really really want to sign, Lacazette is one of these. However I will elaborate on this and say it doesn't look likely as the previous two players I've really wanted to sign were Javi Martinez and Benzema.

In conclusion it's not that united don't want to sign him, it's because I do that he won't sign haha.

04 Jun 2015 14:25:52
Lacazette is a tremendous striker. I doubt a move will be made this year but his most recent comments may have put that into question.

Looking at the current squad I feel we miss that kind of a player who can inspire and drive others on their heels to perform. A Manchester United player through and through. Someone like Roy Kean, a powerful leader. Currnet squad + players we buy may have quality but we need someone to drive us on field. Rooney is our current leader now, the way he went mad at our defenders in leicester game still we were not able to lift our game. After Vidic Evra Ferdinand left we miss that leadership in our team. All the youngsters in our team have to look up to someone. Hopefully someone steps up to be that man in our next season.

Believable3 Unbelievable2

04 Jun 2015 10:24:49
I think that's complete nonsense.

Rooney's speech after the FA Cup game to Arsenal is the reason we went on that winning run destroying Spurs, Liverpool and City.

We don't need a Roy Keane, Rooney is doing an amazing job as captain.

Agree6 Disagree2

Haha not sure if you are joking or not Jose. 'Rooney's speech is why we won the next 6 games'! Our players were all over the place most of the season, Rooney is doing his best no doubt about it, but imo he lacks both the intelligence and know-how to be a first rate captain. He is the best of a bad bunch when it comes to leadership qualities.

We are crying out for a Roy Keane.

Those wins were nothing to do with the manager changing the focus or the real stars during that period like Fellaini, Mata, Herrera?

A captain leads through both words and performance it wasnt exactly inspiring watching Rooney this season in my eyes! Straw clutching.

I have been anti-LVG all season, but to not give him credit and attribute it to one of our worst individual performers this season is plain wrong imo.

The issues isn't so much that we are lacking a captain, I actually don't think Rooney is doing a bad job.

The issue is that good teams need leaders all over the pitch, not just one guy. People forget that Keane had the likes of Schmeichel, Stam, Ferdinand, Neville, Giggs also providing organisation and leadership. Our biggest issue is that we have a lack of people willing to step up as leaders. In defence Smalling is just starting to do this, in midfield Carrick can organise but is too quiet, and that leaves our striker as the most vocal leader on the pitch.

A captain does lead by example, but that's a difficult job for a striker to do because if they're doing their job properly, they should be moving away from the thick of the action looking to exploit space behind the opposition's defence.

I never meant Rooney is doing bad. but I don't think he is doing an amazing job Jose! Yes players came out and spoke about Rooney's speech but the succesful run was defenitely because of the changes made to the team by the manager. But in games when our body language was not right we missed a personality in the feild to lift us.

Another Rooney debate ha. God. I agree with beast on this. If your giving credit to Rooney for our wins then our losses are cz of him aswell then, nonsense. It's a team game and I think Herrera, young, fellaini and mata are more the reason our season turned round, not to mention DDG of course. Rooney is part of this team not the sole reason we finished 4th, if we finished 5th would you still be saying it's cz of Rooney's awe inspiring captaincy. I've said it before, Wayne is a good player, he's not world class, not anymore anyway and we need better as a centre forward and captain to be challenging on all fronts. Some will no doubt disagree but it's my opinion the same as many others and for us to flourish as a team we should've and should still move him on.

Beast, at times I do wonder whether you do any research into the things you say.

Firstly let's start with the speech. Van Gaal & Ander Herrera have both said that the winning streak came from Rooney reminding them of what Manchester United means and what is expected of you.

You also mention that the tactics changed, well, I'm sorry to disappoint you mate but they stayed exactly the same.

The difference between the Newcastle and Spurs game is as follows; We had the same amount of shots (11), 4% less passing accuracy, one less chance created, 6 fewer crosses, 21 fewer runs, while we also had less possession against Spurs.

At the end of the game, the differences in selection were few; Jones (for Evans), Rafael (Carrick), Pereira (Januzaj) and Falcao (Mata).

so statistically speaking, (you know, the thing that monitors progress) we were in fact worse against Spurs at every monitored statistic. However did take our chances in that game and that can be credited to self belief and confidence, something Rooney has to be credited for as captain.

I don't buy all this we need another Keane rubbish, he was a quality captain and a worldie of a player but the game has changed so much over the past 10 years that a lot of our players have to big of an ego to put up with it. Do you think RVP, Falcao, Di Maria, etc. would let anyone disrespect them like Keane would do and has done to players in the past?

We're a new breed of animal and the motivational tactics used by Rooney, Ferdinand, Vidic and Neville have all worked well in my opinion.

I'd rather be led by Kompany or Terry than Rooney. There seems to be a bit too much brown nosing going on for my liking at our club regarding Rooney.

He has only just been given the role, it takes a while to learn how to do anything properly especially lead men - he doesn't strike me as a natural in this department. I don't blame Rooney for one second, but I know in any other walk of life if their is a lot of praise for a team leader by the staff more often than not its because he is not leading properly! Granted they are professionals, but the nicest boss is not the one that isn't calling people out for their mistakes!

As Danny says we need a team full of leaders, I look around and don't see any at our club which is why we get the passionless displays a lot of time. We need one at the back, a keeper that is very vocal and somebody to take hold of the midfield by example.

IMO the reason United went on that run was not because of Rooney's Speech which may have helpded the foreign players but because of one Michael Carrick (Who returned just before the Spurs game) and got taken off against City and that's when we nose dived again and were lucky due to the fact Liverpool and Spurs were equally sh!t.

I don't now the stats but I'd like to see them with Carrick in the team and without, so forget about a big leader, it's a long term replacement for Carrick that is needed, obviously more is needed too but for me the lynch-pin to winning the league next year is replacing / keeping Carrick fit.

Jose - When do we ever hear players criticize their captain?

Rooney is a very high profile captain because of the England scenario as well. LVG making him captain means the players praising Rooney are in reality praising the manager, not a bad tactic for a manager that clearly enjoys the praise. The Manager praising Rooney is in reality LVG praising LVG for his own decision. Exactly the same as the delusion that Rooney is doing a great job in midfield.

I don't care for stats personally, I know a lot of people find them useful. I use my own eyes, experience and judgement which has served me well, that is all the "research" I need to form a sensible conclusion imo.

Stats are abused and can often be red herrings. We upped the tempo for those games, we also benefit from playing teams that will attack us as Imightbesomeone says. Our game plan changed and we clicked, nothing to do with Rooney saying "work hard boys because the fans want a performance".

Do you honestly think somebody saying" lads you play for Man Utd, remember that" is the reason we played better for that brief period? Come on, this isn't kindergarten, they all have it drummed into them everyday what it means to play for Utd (or should do) and the responsibility they shoulder. If the statements are genuine then very serious questions need to be asked of the leadership of the club and the mindset of the players.

The praise for Rooney as captain should be taken with a pinch of salt, lack of alternatives and a desperate need for some leadership are why these desperate comments are being given air time. They need being put back in their box.

We need real men with brains leading the team on the pitch, Rooney is a good backup, but he is certainly not a natural leader and we are suffering through a serious lack of leadership on the pitch and on the sideline!

Hodgson & LVG chose him as captain, who is Hodgson?

SAF the greatest manager we have had wanted rid!

My argument is that people can't say he is a great captain if they are basing it on what biased people are saying, when is a captain ever criticized?

Your point about me knowing nothing about this is valid, but it works the other way. My mum is the best mum in the world, my dad is the best dad and my wife is the best wife! I am biased and if I said my mates mum, dad and wife are the best it is only inviting trouble isn't it?

The fact so many people are praising him is because Rooney being selected as captain was such a debated and in many ways curious decision. England captain always attracts publicity, Utd captain not so much. How often are Chelsea or City players asked to comment on their captain? It is only because it is Rooney.

People get defensive on this and they shouldnt, they also shouldn't be attributing runs of form down to our captain, when frankly we have been looking devoid of leadership during his tenure. It isn't all his fault we were ppor to watch and it isn't a lot to do with him we had a few good games this season, more to do with the players that actually performed in those games.

I am not being anti-Rooney with this, I just think the whole point it is being discussed is because its a bit of a weird one and supporters doth protest too much imo.

These players commenting all have a vested interest it means next to nothing. Name me one high profile captain that has been slagged off by any of their colleagues or the manager that has picked him?

Jred - Hodgson is second tier mate, hardly a good reference, may as well say Moyes rates him!

Rooney is the best out of a bad bunch for both England and Utd as far as leaderships concerned. If you had to pick out of "Awful" or "Bad", most pick "Bad", doesn't mean that suddenly becomes good!

Standards are so low it's scary.

jred my post was not a lack of respect or loyalty, it comes from 10+ years of watching Rooney interviews. None I've seen show a man who could use words to motivate anyone, especially guys who can hardly understand him. That also goes for 95% of other footballers I have listened to not just Rooney. They shouldn't need motivating, they have 70000 people cheering them on and multi million pound bank accounts that should be doing that.

Is it me or is anyone else really worried about Falcao joining Chelsea? I think Alan shearer made a good point analysing Falcao last year. He was playing with his back to goal a lot of the time, mourinho will make sure he gets the ball when he's facing goal. And if that happens, I think he's going to score a shed load of goals for them.
Hope we.dont live to regret letting him go.

not one bit am i worried,

i think he a shadow of him self, he's lost all the attributes that made him so good, his strenth was non existant, first touch was poor and he had plenty of game time to warrent getting a perminant deal,

hes going to cost them around 35 plus million an amount which is going to sadly wasted.

I was thinking the same. Unless we going to be buying benzema then we wouldn't regret letting go off Falcao. But if we are going to be buying another striker such as higuain then I'd rather gamble on Falcao for one more year as he already knows our team and will be much better next year.

I don't know, Mourinho couldn't get Shevchenko or Torres playing, don't see what he's going to do with Falcao.

Agree4 Disagree0

04 Jun 2015 09:28:38
The way Falcao was made to play this season completely nullified all of his most effective attributes so of course he wasn't going to be the player we had seen tear it up across Europe. He was a victim of 'the philosophy' as was a lot of our players but obviously based on his performances this season and looking at the way LVG wants his strikers to play we would be crazy to sign him up.

If he goes to Chelsea will I be worried? In a word, no. I think Costa is much more of a handful and I'd rather come up against Falcao than Costa every other week. Could they form a deadly duo? In a word, no. They both rely on similar abilities and would need a less conventional forward beside them to open up the space for them to be effective. Also I don't think Mourinho would play with two up top when you consider the wealth of talent in his jam packed midfield.

All in all though, I would like to see the league retain a fine player and for him to do himself enough justice for the followers of the EPL not to brand him a flop. I wish him well for whatever is to come unless it is to be to the detriment of United which I feel would be highly unlikely.

Agree7 Disagree1

04 Jun 2015 09:48:42
I echo what JMB says. I believe he will make Chelsea a stronger prospect because he showed some fantastic movement for us, the ball just didn't reach him, then confidence is zapped. With Chelsea attacking at pace, having Fabregas and Matic pulling strings in midfield he will be good for 20+ goals imo if he gets the games.

Just look how poor RVP, Rooney, Falcao and Wilson were upfront, even ADM and Fellaini when given a spin up there. I don't think we should sacrifice ourselves to prevent a rival signing him, but I very much doubt he will be anything other than a clever signing for Chelsea. Its not like we lose because nobody could do much for us up front the way we play.

Opportunity missed, I just hope the master plan is worth it - time will tell.
