What does people think about Theo Walcott...?
I think he could take nani's place....
Only 23, England international, final year of contract, I'm sure SAF wanted him when at Southampton and him and Van Persie know each other well....
Cheaky 6/7m bid in jan....?

BowlDonBowl

Believable1 Unbelievable22

He's as bad as Nani, very inconsistant. Actually i'd rather have Nani as at least nani has a trick in him, Walcott has no tricks, poor crossing, average shot, all he has is pace and when his pace goes he's finished.

Agree16 Disagree0

I think Walcott is far better when used as a striker and could of been up there as a class player if used there his whole career but now he is a okay winger..... I wouldnt mind him coming if it was for £5-8 million but he wants to play up top and I would put RVP,Rooney,Hernandez and Welbeck ahead with ease so unless one left it is pointless.

Agree8 Disagree3

I think we've seen the best of Nani, I can't see him improving either himself or the team. Walcott is just a Valencia clone, head down with pace but no skill. He talks about playing centre forward but he would never get that opportunity at Utd as we at least 4 better forwards at the club. For me I would like us to try for Zaha at Palace especially if we sell Nani. I wonder if we could get enough money from the sale of Nani for both Zaha and Wanyama of Celtic, that would be good business.

What does everyone think?

An Dun Red Devil

Agree3 Disagree3

Zaha and or Tom Ince could be good cheaper alternatives to the likes of Munian, Rodriguez and Isco, who are all better players but i don't think we'll get any of them as they'd cost too much, what we would spend on one of those we could get Zaha, Ince and Wanyama as long as their clubs don't ask for stupid money. {Ed004's Note - Isco would be cheaper than Zaha}

Agree0 Disagree0

I know Palace were talking about 25 million the other day Ed4 but thats just bravado surely. Wouldn't Isco cost something in the region of 18 million? Which for a player at a top flight spanish club playing champions league is a good price. Zaha playing 2nd division football wouldn't cost that much, say 10 million is a fair offer. {Ed004's Note - But for the difference of 8 million there is a huge difference in quality between the two players. Isco I could see as a future star I can not say the same for Zaha}

Agree1 Disagree1

But Zaha isn't going to end up getting homesick or wanting a move to Madrid or Barca one day. Zaha we could mould and we wont know until we sign either one of them. Besides i personally think Zaha will cross London to Arsenal and we'll sign Tom Ince.

Agree1 Disagree1

I have only seen Isco briefly but he appeared to have a real star quality and a quality left foot. Muniain is another who I have been impressed with.

Red Man

Agree2 Disagree0

Why would we buy walcott when we can have usain bolt? He cant be any wors can he?

Mick

Agree6 Disagree0

Muniain is very different from ISCO. I prefer Muniain, he is so tricky and fast he will make defending our front 4 a nightmare with all the runs the other guys do.

The way Bilbao are going he might be attainable for a decent fee.

Shahram

Agree0 Disagree0

Shahram

i disagree. I think they are quite alike. They both play in an attacking midfield role, mostly on the left cutting in. they both have amazing vision and technical ability. Isco has a better passing and shooting range, but he is 2 years (?) older than muniain, who in his favour has a lot of pace, so he can do a job outwide and is extremly dangerous in counterattacks and his workrate is second to none.

So imo both future worldclass players.

I think we waisted money on Buttner. He wasn't highly rated that much in Holland. Played 2 seasons in the Vitesse first team. One as a winger & one as a defender. It shows his lack of experience in defending. His positioning, concentration & diving in. Okay Rafael was like that when he was 17/18 & that has been taken out of his game.

Defending is an art and has to be drilled in to you at academy level. What to do, when to do it and where to go will come naturally after years of training.

I feel Buttner will get a handful of games like the Wigan debut & Cup games. Maybe a team struggling for wins we play at home.

I just feel Robbie Brady would of done just as good a job against Wigan & Chelsea in the cup. Plus he's got a better cross on him & dangerous with set plays.

TJ

Believable2 Unbelievable9

But brady is a winger.

Caolán.

Agree6 Disagree0

Come on give him some more time.He just came into a new team and the requirements are by far more.Although hes already 23 (correct me if wrong)he can still improve.Hes really good going forward but he lacks in defence a bit.

Agree8 Disagree0

I think he could be good, but I'm not passing judgement just yet. However I do think that we were forced to for him since we failed to sign Alba or Baines and we had also let Fabio go out on loan. So without getting Buttner quick we would only have had Evra.

Fresh!

Agree4 Disagree1

Brady is a lot better than buttner

Agree1 Disagree6

We failed with Alba, didn't want to pay Evertons price for Baines.
Buttner was on his way to Southampton.

Sorry but he's a cheap stand in till Fabio is back. Or maybe Cashley Cole fancies a last pay cheque move on a free to United. Could be the first Prem player to win the league with 3 dif clubs.

Arsenal, Chelsea & United?

Coloccini's red card was an abysmal decision from a referee once again.... It is becoming a weekly thing in the Premiership we end up talking about shocking decisions and not the performances. Suarez's challenge on Distin last week was a red and he got nothing Sterling put in an awful challenge and got pretty much nothing some of the cards given and not given are becoming laughable.

Believable1 Unbelievable7

Sorry mate, but Coloccini's looked red all over to me. Didn't see whole game, but caught the goals and that tackle in highlights at end. Two good finishes and a blatant red was all I saw.

You might have mufc glasses on?

DodgyBanter

Agree12 Disagree2

I can see why he was red carded it was way too late

Pardoe

Agree3 Disagree1

If Coloccini's was a red card then Sterlings was just as bad and went unpunished... He was nowhere near kicking him no contact and pulled out with no intent.. stupid decision

Agree1 Disagree0

For goodness sake - it was a legitimate decision by the ref - stop knocking them they do an incredibly hard job - don't get to see it in reply / slo mo, and from different angles - lets support the refs!!

- except when they give a bad one against us of course :)

I remember looking on here back in August and a lot of people were doubting that the RVP signing was right. Just glad so far that's been proved wrong in all honesty I think he's give us much more than just his goals and he seems to love the club! Excellent addition.

GD

Believable12 Unbelievable0

I always thought Van Persie was a good buy I was just a little concerned at his injury record over his career...... I think most people were annoyed as they would of preferred a Vidal or De Rossi.

Agree2 Disagree0

I agree most of us at the time were wary of his injury record and the high costs (fee & wages) involved. A lot of us thought we'd lose out to City as well. All of which were valid concerns at the time.

Also many of us wanted a midfielder brought in.

So far it has worked but at the same time i still want investment in midfield.

Hopefully Ando can get fit and earn his place in the side, and hopefull Cleverley cna improve as well, but we still need an extra person in there as Scholes & Giggs will surely be retiring in summer and Carrick isn't a spring chicken. Thats 3 players who need replacing, although Carrick will last another 2 seasons, and thats on the assumption that Ando makes it and doesn't get sold this summer. Ok the lads like Powell and Tunnicliffe et al cna make the step up but in reality they are 2 years off which is around the same time that we are most likely to be replacing Carrick. So we do need to sign a midfielder this summer no more excuses. As well as looking at replacing Vidic longterm and Evra as well and an upgrade on Nani. Can we do all 4 in 6 months?

Sorry for going off topic.

Agree8 Disagree0

For me it's his whole attitude and demeanor which has changed since he signed for us. He seems interested in helping the kids, as shown with the reassurance of Powell when he made his debut and congratulating him after scoring. I can't imagine that he would have ever been happy sat on arsenals bench but even when he's not playing for us he seems to be happy to be part of the squad. Consummate professional. Obviously I'd like to not see him throwing his elbows around as has been seen once already this season. If he continues to score at this rate though hell have no trouble becoming a True United legend. I look forward to watching this Roo-RVP partnership develop too.
I know he cost a lot and as another poster has said I would have been happier in the summer to see a DM signed as I still feel we're lacking a ball winner, but so far so good.

The thing with Robin Van Persie is that he is not only really gifted positionally and with the ball, which is enough to be a United great, but his mere presence gives confidence to the United players that has been missing since Cristiano Ronaldo left, and his presence also has the fear factor which has been missing in that time. £24m is a bargain. Not often you can say that about a player.

I think Arsenal supporters now see just what a mighty player he was for them. I think United supporters have realised just what a mighty player the club have bought, It leaves me asking how United got it so badly wrong all those years ago when he was a teenager with a bad attitude. United often end up paying monster cash for players they could have got on the cheap earlier in their careers. Anyway, I am massively glad that this bloke came to us rather than City (turned down close to £300K weekly at City according to Wenger!!). He doesn't rely on pace, so as he gets older he's not going to lose any of his effectiveness. This relationship is going to be a fruitful one....very fruitful. How good he is, is shown in the way that Rooney, Giggs, Rio, Scholes, Carrick and Vida treat him. It shows in the way SAF treats him. These men have won everything there is to win, multiple times, and they treat RVP (a man with one FA Cup medal) as an equal.

Park 3 lung

Believable6 Unbelievable0

You are right but it has taken him 7 years to even get through a season, he always had undoubted talent

Pardoe

Also think of the effect he has on the players in training. Its no coincidence surely the improvements in Hernandez. And what the young lads can leaen as well. He can have the same effect that Eric had on Scholes, Beckham etc.

I dont think Carrick and Cleverley are suited to playing alongside each other. Cleverley and Anderson last season moved the ball around with ease. Whereas with Carrick and Cleverley the ball is slowed down. I would like to see Cleverley linking up with Anderson and Kagawa but that would leave us lacking cover in front of the defence. While Kagawa is out i would like to see Fletcher Cleverley and Anderson given a run, especially against Braga.

Good result yesterday. Excellent going forward & back 4 were fairly solid. I still think midfield is our weak spot especially Carrick. He gave away a lot of ball in dangerous areas & made a half-hearted effort of a block for the Gunners goal.He sits in front of the back 4 but can't tackle and is very average in the air. He actually draws opposing teams onto us.
Anderson on the other hand has been excellent in recent weaks so maybe its time he gets a run in the team.He drives the team forward and it is always said the best form of defense is attack

I'd love us to sign Baines in January, I think he is a class act 8 out of 10 every week. What sets him apart from most left backs in the league is his end product, a lot of full backs deliver is poor half the time but Baines has a magical left foot and will set up a lot of goal. Also he would add another more to our set peice allowing rvp and Rooney to go in box for free kicks and corners. Finally if we sign him imagine a free kick 25 yards from goal, rvp Rooney young and Baines standing over it! Not many keepers would like that prospect!

Another important win, we are starting to motor. A lot of great posts re: jonny and raphael; great defenders and improving all the time, ando looking to be a proper midfielder, RVP and rooney world class and looking like they will score for fun (anywhere other than a spot kick!). I agree that evra has improved with the return of young and both are looking hungry. Carrick and clevs are good players however this is the area we must improve, with the acquisition of a world class midfielder we can turn this team into a champions league winning outfit. Some posts reminiscing the days of keano, what a leader and midfield general, if he was in that team yesterday I believe the score would have been doubled at least. Still, a good win and we are looking in fine form.

Just my opinion but at the minute, does anybody else agree in Jonny Evans and Rafael Da Silva, at the present time two of the best defenders for their positions in the Premier League...

Rafael is by far and away the best right back in present times in the Premier League. Nobody is getting close... Walker was class last season but he has gone off the boil. Maybe Ivanovic is just as good but I prefer him at centre back...

Evans is finally getting the recognition he deserves... Top draw defender, positioning is first class and on the ball he is one of the best in world football from that position with his on the ball ability.

Get Smalling and Vidic back and the defence would be immense

RedKnight

Believable8 Unbelievable2

To be fair to Evans he has really matured this last 12 months in the absence of Vidic. He seems very composed which is good for a CB and he's great on the ball. If we could bring in a top CB to replace Vidic/Rio soonish I'd be happy to have Smalling and Evans battling it out to be the new guy's partner

Rafael is one of the plus's of the season so far IMO, he has really come on. Looked great for Brazil in the Olympics and carried that into his club form. If he stays fit and keeps improving he will become a real top RB

Gav

Agree3 Disagree0

I said 3 years ago raphael would be top draw but most people disagreed.I thought the main aspect he had to learn was not to dive in which i think he has done.Hopefully Fabio will turn out like his brother because he was the one who was highly thought of when they both signed

The boss was not happy with the performance yesterday and Rio said the dressing room was like a morgue. This has to be a good thing. I think the boss smells blood and wants us to go for it and dominate like we have done in previous seasons. Not satisfied with beating Arsenal he wants to hammer them. This is the atmosphere we need at the club. Last year we were just grateful for a win to stay in the chase knowing we would get stronger second half of the season. Now our rivals must be looking at the fact we have taken maximum points from Liverpool away Chelsea away and Arsenal at home. This is where the Boss is so far ahead of any other manager. He is getting into the players heads. They are desperate to please him but he comes out and says he was not pleased with todays display. Can you imagine next game. They are going to come out pumped up. A Masterclass. I AM KLOOT

I was glad to hear what was said yesterday. It's good to know that the match was as frustrating for them as it was for us. We could've very easily had 4 or 5 yesterday and SAF summed it up when he said we were too profligate.

Guy i know we give Evra stick and yeah he hasn't been the player he used to be for around the last year and a half, i think the cause of this was the french national team saga but anyway, Vincent Kompany (Man City) kept his 17th PL clean sheet since the start of last season, Patrice Evra (19) is the only outfield player to have kept more, and Patrice Evra (Man Utd) scored his second goal of the season and only misplaced one pass against Arsenal (completed 48). I still think he is a good player and we are treating him to harshly.

Walrus

Believable7 Unbelievable8

Ok so he has a good game and scores a goal. That doesn't make up for the past 2 seasons or so where he has been solely responsible for goals conceded due to poor defending. Yeh i agree with him Melbourne. Fergies the best in the business at rotating his squad and still getting results, thats why United always finish the strongest. RDM needs to do this or come January our players will be too tired and we'll fade away.

In the aftermath of the Capital One Cup game, even though we won, i think Fergie will be very pleased with his youngens for taking it all the way. That game cost us the win against Swansea. Love him or hate him, he is the best in the business.

OsgoodIsKing

I completely disagree with Hernandez comment, he is a great poacher, but one of the best strikers in the league? I honestly think if RVP gets a lengthy spell out due to an injury you'd be in trouble. Welbeck wouldn't cut it week in week out and Ferguson would never have Chiciharto as no.1. Which would mean Rooney would have to take the role and who would play behind him? Anderson has been looking great in last 2 games but I still don't think Fergie rates him above Cleverly, who would not be the answer. And kagawa hasn't taken to the league all that well in the early days.

I do agree that Chelsea of the top 3 teams are the most likely to drop off if an important starter got injured.
