Looks like Fellaini and Rojo have travelled with the squad to Chelsea. Would be great to have them both back especially Fellaini in midfield. Could we see a matic, Herrera, Fellaini midfield three with Herrera doing a man marking job on hazard again? Think we will play 3 at the with smalling, Bailly and Jones with young and Valencia as wing backs. A front two of rashford and lukaku to spearhead the attack. Personally I would love if martial rash and lukaku all started. Chelsea look vulnerable and I think the pace of rash and martial is key in finding the spaces behind Alonso and whoever plays right wing back. City kept sane and Sterling very wide and high up the pitch which pinned back chelsea’s Wing backs and therefore negated there attack. The key battle will be the midfield and even with Kante back I think we will have enough to dominate this. Starting miki would be a no from me as he gives away the ball far too much and in these sort of games ball retention is key. We have enough to win this but all depends on how Jose sets up. Excited for this and haven’t been this confident of getting a result at Chelsea for years.

If we play the at the back, two wingbacks, those three in midfield plus Lukaku, Rash and Martial upfront then we might find it difficult to keep a clean sheet without a keeper!

Haha you know what I mean dodgy! I think we will see De Gea in goal, smalling, Bailly Jones in defence. Young and Valencia wing backs with a midfield three of Herrera, matic and miki. Rashford and lukaku up top. But wouldn’t rule out Fellaini instead of miki.

Sorry Park3, couldn't resist. The clue is in the name!

Looking forward to having Scouse cretins showing up on here all week, I've been missing the little blighters after their stuffing from Tottenham.

Does anyone else think we will go three at the back again? I think there's a high percentage as long as Jones, Smalling and Bailly are all fit. But will we use Rash and Lukaku this time instead of Martial and Lukaku?

I think so Syd, seems to favour it in big games, worked last time out so why not.

Don't you normally play 11 at the back in every game, small team mentality.

Smalling gets me nervous due to his lack of quality on the ball, but in a three he is usually the stand out defender. Surprising when Jones and Bailly individually are better players. So I think as long as they're all fit we will see that again and Young/ Valencia as wingbacks. Or more like fullbacks in reality. 532. Lukaku, Mikhitaryan and Rash to counter. It's hard to know what Jose is thinking, but I would go this way I think. Herrera next to Matic. Mata will play a part from the bench maybe.

I think Conte may well set up the same. Using Hazard, Morata and Pedro as counter attacking players. We'll see.

Mighty reds how was the 4-1 and 5-0 thrashing by spurs and city?

Oh yes it was Martial and Lukaku who started against Liverpool, not Spurs.

Maybe Smalling plays well in a back three for the same reason he had a purple patch under LvG, the extra body in there covers for his weaknesses? In the same way as having two defensive midfielders and sitting deep did when LvG was here.

I'm not sure which way we will go. We might see Mkhitaryan dropped with either Lingard or McTominay coming into the team. My reasoning is I expect Mourinho to have Hazard man marked again like he did last season when he played Herrera in that role. With so many midfielders out he might play Matic with McTominay or maybe even Tuanzebe in midfield with Herrera marking Hazard again, or he might stick with Matic and Herrera in midfield and have Lingard mark Hazard.

Either way I expect him to drop Mata and Mkhitaryan for this game, maybe bringing them on later to change things if needed. This would give us a front two of Lukaku with Rashford I expect with Martial able to impact from the bench.

Mighty reds, must be great playing all of that fantastic football, getting thrashed and winning nothing. Give your head a shake mate.

Agree with Shappy regarding Smalling. Not hard to look a world beater if you lose attacking players to cover for defenders. No coincidence that almost every game our stand out players are defenders, GK or DM's. Even Valencia looks a quality RB despite having no idea how to defend properly imo.

I think Young will play, he seems to trust Young all of a sudden. Wouldn't even be surprised to see Blind as LB and Young on the right to help Valencia with Hazard. Rashford will play ahead of Martial as well as he trusts him more defensively.

I fancy Lukaku to have a blinder though, (heart over head) .

I saw another photo of the Class of '92 in the papers this morning and there in all his glory was Phil Neville. Now I like Phil, I think he's a top bloke and was a great servant for us, but he wasn't part of the Class of '92, he was younger and a couple of years behind. Yet watch any programme or publicity event about the Class of '92 and there's Phil, front and centre. Fair play to him but really it's the Class of'92 and Gary's brother.

I'm sure Phil is part of the class of 92 bud. They all came through that time together.

Syd, he isn't. Thee are plenty of photos of the FAnCup Youth winning team (with Robbie Savage in them) but Phil is 2 years younger than Gary, Butt, Scholes, and Giggs.

It's not a huge deal but it does make me laugh how he is always there.

AJH,
I attended the second leg of the youth cup final 92/ 93 at Elland road, amongst the line up was G. Neville, P. Neville. P. Scholes. D. Beckham K. Gillespie. R. Savage and N. Butt, moot point but I think its fair to lump Phil in with the class of 92.

Agree2 Disagree0

04 Nov 2017 12:28:13
Like I said, not a huge deal. He played in '93 and skippered the youth team to success in '95, but he was not, and never was, part of the Class of '92.
