I saw it with my own eyes but I still have no idea how Chile lost to Germany. They were by far the better team. Great goal from Goetze assisted by Ozil but Boateng and Lahm were by far Germany's best players. Vidal and Sanchez completely ruled the game but great movement and pace throughout the Chile team.

Nearer home nice to see Shaw and for Scotland Robertson get their first caps 2 excellent young players.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Meant to add for me Sterling and Chamberlain were our best 2 players. Yes I watched 3 games simultaneously I know I'm sad.

Agree0 Disagree0

Chamberlain, he came on late and did nothing - I think you are confused?

MOM should have been Schmeichel.

Smalling looked like a weak link on the ball at centre half. Did you notice how much deeper he was going when we had the ball, slowed the play down massively, this comes from Utd coaching and is a major concern.

Rooney was rubbish again. I honestly think he is the major problem with Utd and England - when he play we lose all shape and other players seem to be unsure of where to run. He is not good enough to demand the ball so much and his movement is horrendous. We have to play RVP up top, I simply can't understand why we have yielded to the Rooney PR machine.

Great post Mick1 and response ed004.
I agree Mick with most of what you say although I would have a different view on some incomings. But we all want to play a 4231 or a slight variation of that. So we know who we would want to fit in to the various positions, However I don't know and i'm not sure anybody does know what style or formation DM wants to play. If its 442 then we would require different players with different attributes.
By now it should be clear what style and formation he wants to play. All the great coaches stamp their style and authority on the teams playing style and here we are 3/4 way through the season and its not obvious what moyes wants the players to do.
Once we establish what the manger wants his team to play like we will then know what players we need to fill those roles.
Asking really good players to play in roles that don't suit their best attributes will make them look very average like kagwa or mata being told to play wide with chalk on their boots or asking rooney to play in midfield or smalling right back welbeck as no 10 etc etc so even a kroos or vidal would look average if moyes won't let them past the striker.
8 months in and we don't know what he is trying to achieve with very good players. Now that is damning. so its hard to know who he wants and why he wants them?

For me 4231
5 players in I don't think that's too many.
I have 2 preffered lists
Shaw
Llanna
Kroos
Gundogan his injury worries me
Garay

Or
Shaw
Garay
Koke
Herrera
Sanchez

Promote
keane twins, petruchi, lingard, vermijl powell

Outs, rio, vidic, evra (id like him to stay to help shaw) cleverly, carrick, chich rvp young nani ando

I suppose that list would be different if he wants to play 442 or by pass midfield with long diagonals to a pushed on fellani! If anybody can enlighten me to what way we will be playing i'd appreciate it. because if its not fast flowing pass and move modern type of game don't go near kroos or snachez or gundogan.

The question is why don't we know what our style of play is?

{Ed004's Note - Don't forget to log in mate. Also I'm not sure Koke and Herrera or Kroos and Gundogan offer enough protection to the back four. Would love Alexis Sanchez. He is a fantastic player IMO}

Do you see any chance of Sanchez? He seems to be doing better at Barca now. A fast, skillful dribbler like Sanchez is what we need and also what the fans need. I personally miss the dazzling feet and the step overs of Ronaldo, we need that back.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed004's Note - None}

Are there any players out there that we realistically could go for that are like Sanchez? Quick and skillful with the stepover culture? These are my favourite types of players.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed004's Note - Di Maria? Griezmann, Reus?}

Yes but we don't seem to have any interest in Griezmann, Reus is too expensive and Di Maria is doing well at Madrid.

Hi Ed,
could you help me with a bit of info?

My mate at work is racing about a young rb from Burnley and says United should have a look at him, apparently he's playing brilliantly in the championship.
I can't find his name though so don't have a clue who he is.
Any ideas?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - Kieran Trippier I would assume he means, he has been growing as a player for a while. I wouldn't be surprised if they lose him to a Prem team, if they fail to get promoted.}

United standard ed?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed003's Note - I've seen a bit of him,very good but maybe not United standard Big Mac.}

Ed003,

If he's very good then he will be better than united standard, nothing we have done this season has been anywhere near 'very good'!

Half England post and Half United! We are constantly having a go at Moyes for 4 4 2, but here we have England doing the same! Could have Sturridge up front with Rooney, Llanna and Sterling behind with supporting of Gerrard and Wilshere!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Yeah shano. And the play is the same boring style as we play at united.

Agree0 Disagree0

Beats me how one legendary manager, and one decent one, have never seen the light regarding 442.

How did they ever make successful careers out of managing teams in one of the toughest leagues in the world?

Listen, sometimes 442 is a valid tactic, as is 4231, as is 4321, as is 4411, as is any other permutation you want. It all depends on the opposition, and how they're setting up, and your own strengths and weaknesses. Unless you're Barca, or Bayern (442 by the way), and then you can play the same way all the time, because they have some of the best players in the world.

I hate this simplistic view of 442=bad, 4231=good. There's much more to it than that. But that wouldn't suit snappy little soundbites.

Just like to say,,, I'm not the biggest cleverly fan, but one thing for sure is he doesn't deserve any abuse, he is not the only player for united who hasn't performed well, and petions to ban him from the World Cup is a disgrace!!the guy has feelings and to hear the abuse he is getting is wrong! would love to see him prove everyone wrong

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Definately agree with you there

Ed004, if it wasn't for Rooney's new deal, I would have said start playing him in midfield, or dropping him to the bench and playing Van Persie up top is the way to go.

Moyes just does not seem to understand that in order to play 2 strikers, you need a midfield to carry the creative burden, and wingers who can perform week in, week out.

Now he seems incapable of accepting our wingers are poor, our midfield lethargic, and Rooney/Van Persie don't work well together.

Rooney is relatively creative, and he can be played as a second striker in a 4-4-1-1 just not as a number 10.

With Kagawa, Januzaj and Mata, we have 3 of the most technically gifted and creative players in the league. They need to be played in a 4-2-3-1 to get the best out of them, and the team. They would allow Carrick and Cleverley to find options to pass to other than the wings, and would create plenty of chances for Rooney/ Van Persie.

That formation would leave our defense a bit open, unless Fellaini gets back in the team and provide a solid base next to Carrick in midfield.

Let's not forget that a very mobile attacking midfield consisting of Januzaj, Kagawa and Mata would allow Cleverley to make the best out of his accurate short passing and ability to keep the ball moving, and make up for Fellaini's lack of passing range.

Unfortunately, Moyes does not have the cojones to drop one of our star strikers. I reckon Rooney would perform better as a lone striker than as a number 10, so leaving Van Persie on the bench is a must.

And during the summer, we'd need one defensively sound midfielder to set the tempo of our games, and let Fellaini and Cleverley fight it out for the remaining spot. Fellaini works better with a deep lying playmaker, while Cleverley is at his best when he is next to a midfield enforcer/ box to box player ( CLeverley's best displays came next to an inform Anderson ). So, in theory, fellaini would do nicely next to Kroos, while Cleverley needs a Carvalho next to him.

We would also need talented winger/ attacking midfielder to ease the creative burden and add pace to a creative attack would not go amiss either. Draxler, Reus or Max Meyer would be great.

So 2 expensive additions in the forward line would leave us more funds to use in defense. We would need 2 left backs ( one of which for cover ) and a central defender.

garay seems like the best option out there. Benatia is obviously the better player, but with Roma probably losing Pjanic ( another player who would make a fantastic contribution ) I don't see them selling selling 2 of their best players. he is experienced, talented, good on the ball and would allow us to play a higher line. We might go for younger player, with Ginter apparently a target. If we were going for youngsters, Ginter would not be my first choice. He is very talented, but seems like he struggles against pacy players, and is horrible in one on ones. At his age, he has the time to improve but we might need a more capable defender.

My preference would be Semih Kaya. An absolute beast. He plays like a young Vidic, with more pace. He puts his body on the line, is good in the air despite average height, and more importantly, he has a stare that would put fear into the eyes of any attacker out there.

For left back, Athletico's Filipe has been mentioned and so has Shaw.
Filipe is a proven top class performer, but he is not getting any younger or better. For his price I'd rather have Coentrao who is just as good, and younger.

Shaw is a future world class players, but he is a Chelsea fan and would probably choose them over us. My first choice would be Rodriguez. Quick, strong, beast in defense, and he can cross. What more can Moyes need? If not, Sandro is brilliant. He has more class on the ball than any young defender out there, and while he can make defensive mistakes, he is absolutely brilliant going forward. Moreno is another option, but he might be Madrid bound.

For cover/ competition, I'd consider ligue 1 players. Most would love a move to the premier league even if they will be squad players. Pape Souare is a rather consistent young defender, and he's not the most talented, therefore might like a move here even if it's just for a squad role. Benjamin Mendi of Marseille is young, built like a tank, and consistent. He might end up claiming the left back role for himself in the long term ( he plays a bit like Blackett, just much better ).

Many posters seem to think we need a right back, and we're supposedly looking for one, but I would beg to differ. I rate Rafael quite highly, and Vermijl is really to be his understudy while Janko and Varela are both potentially top class. Bringing in a new right back to stun their development seems a bit strange.

Just to make myself clear, I would prefer to buy 2 midfielders, one creative and one defensive, and demoting fellaini and especially Cleverley to a squad role. But I just don't see it happening since Fellaini was bought for a significant amount of money and will be given a season to prove his worth. If not, Axel Witsel to take his place, and Kroos/ Gundogan/ Pjanic in for Cleverley, and I'm a very happy man.

For the youngsters, if Lingard performs well on loan, and has a good preseason ( especially if we fail to get a winger ), he should be kept in the squad. If not, a premier league loan beckons.

Chicharito and Van Persie should be moved on, with Rooney and Welbeck fighting it out for the striker role, and Henriquez as third choice.

Vidic, Evra, Ferdinand, and potentially carrick ( Anderson is already gone imo ) following suit, with Zaha coming back if he proves himself at Cardiff. That would trim the squad down, and allow more young player to fill up squad roles, potentially taking a starting spot in the long term. Powell should be getting frequent game time, either as cover for Kagawa, Mata and Januzaj, or even completing a midfield 3 when the tactics change ( don't see it happening under Moyes ).

I don't buy into the whole 200 million warchest whether it's Moyes or anyone else at the helm. Moyes will have to prove himself capable of improving us in the long term without overpaying if he is to stay and will be given good financial backing, but not all of our egs will be put in one mediocre basket. If Van Gaal, De Boer or anyone else is to come in, they will buy the necessities ( midfielder, left back, central defender ) without chopping the squad since they need to see what they are working with. Evolution rather than revolution, always been the case

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed004's Note - One good thing about Moyes is he does seem to build good teams just doesn't have the tactical knowledge required to turn them into top teams. I agree with everything you have said. It's either Rooney or RVP it can't be both next season. I would prefer RVP though won't lose any sleep if it's Rooney tbh. I agree with incomings though slightly different players, I reckon rb is fine Rafael is very good and varela/Janko should be able to step up and replace him if injured. With Rio and Vidic going Ed 2 has stated a young CB and older one is being looked at. Ideally Ginter and one of Garay/Benatia/Mangala. A left back will be signed but only one IMO in this order Shaw, Rodriguez, Coentrao or Sandro. I think 2 cms are needed though I can't see it. Ideally Gundogan/Kroos with Vidal/Lars Bender/Witsel though that may see one of Carrick, Fletcher or Cleverley leave. I think lastly a left winger is needed a top one at that, Reus/Sanchez/Draxler/Griezman in that order. Though that'll be over 2 windows IMO maybe 3 as that is too many changes at once. I think Rio, Vidic, Evra, Anderson, Young, Nani should leave and one of Rooney/RVP, possibly a midfielder if two are bought. It would leave us with a very strong first team and good cover}

ED, Varela and Janko haven't had even a single loan spell and they've been in England only for a year now. Do you think Moyes would start using them as back ups for the first team next season?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed004's Note - As a last case resort yes. Valencia first then move onto them or recall Vermjl}

How about Calum Chambers for RB?

He is predominantly an RB and can cover LB as well. He can fight with Rafael for the RB position and also act as a back up for the new LB we will sign
(however signing Chambers would diminish our chances of signing Shaw)

Soton already have Clyne for RB so they might entartain us if we put in a decent offer.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed004's Note - Chambers looks a fantastic prospect Tbf}

I can see RVP going and Rooney becoming the main striker with Mata, Januzaj and a new winger behind him as I don't think Kagawa will get the chance. RVP & Hernandez could both leave so we would need another striker as well as promoting Henriquez. Who would be good enough and willing enough to play second or third fiddle though? Rooney first choice, Welbeck second choice, then who?

Agree0 Disagree0

I think we will play 4231 against West Brom as we did against Palace. I genuinely believe that's where Moyes wants to go. I just believe he does not think he has the players for it right now without Mata.

I disagree on Kagawa there was a reason SAF hardly played him, the same reason Moyes does not play him, his abysmal form for us.

I'd play Janu Mata and Rooney again behind RVP.

I agree, with no Vidal, we need 2 CM's, Kroos, Gundogan, Carvalho and Gaitan seem to be the media's choices for us. I don't watch much Portugese football or German really but I've tried to follow these players a little. Kroos oozes class intercepts well but tackling is not the strongest. Gundogan has been injured but he can't tackle either. Gaitan seems little better than what we have, though only watched him twice to be fair. Caevalho is very good but at the asking price not for me. Herrera and Kroos for me(Obviously if I can't have Vidal). If we only get 1 then either of those (and here is where I get ridiculed) with Jones or Fletcher works for me.

I agree on Garay.

Filipe I don't rate, Sandro I do.

Winger Griezmann, Reus in that order.

Sandro, Garay, Herrera or/and Kroos or Gundogan and finally Griezmann. That is 4 players or 5 if we get 2 CM's. Unfortunately I've already been told there is no interest in most of my choices but hey I suck at FM2014 too.

Agree0 Disagree0

The new deal for Rooney was only to protect his value! Now he has signed it, it will take £50,000,000 to let him go and be assured there is a clause if he goes he does not get the remainder of his wages! I like Rooney, but Mata, Januzaj and Mata behind RVP is a lot better and selling Rooney would give is funds we could use for Kroos and Koke! These two in midfield with possibly Garay to support Jones and Evans and the oh so obvious left back is all that is needed!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - There won't be any clause about not getting wages if he leaves - where do you get this nonsense?}

Good post, but if United were to sell both RVP and Hernandez (which is totally possible) I think signing another striker is necessary. If Rooney picks up an injury would United be able to win many games with Welbeck or Henriquez leading the line?

Agree0 Disagree0

So you think players get all their wages if they 'agree' to sign for a new club?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Don't be silly we don't think that at all, we know it. Wages and contractual bonuses owed are paid in full (or can be negotiated) plus if a player has not requested a transfer there is a % (5% in England) of the fee received due to the player. Why do you think there are so many stalemates between clubs and players over outgoing transfers?}

05 Mar 2014 17:10:21
I don't understand why we haven't played Kagawa, Mata Januzaj and Rooney together yet.

So much creativity being wasted for the likes of Young and Valencia.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Please ask Moyes. He probably doesn't know himself.

Agree0 Disagree0

That would make too much sense.

Moyes just hasn't got round to that combination yet.

My sources tell me it is scheduled to be his 93rd different team selection.

Just a question fr you Manchester United fans

When did you start supporting Manchester United and why?
Potatohead""
Dear mr potato head
ngiak can vividly remember the day
When the clock struck just beyond the start of the decade of 80
A wee little penguin child, in the later stages of his single digit age
Was rudely interrupted on his sabbath day morning animated entertainment by soccer
The team in red with the devil on their sleeve and playing with reckless abandon
Caught the penguin young un's eyes
He was captivated and he was fascinated and he was inspired
It seemed to that juvenile mind that it was a part of him that appeared on the screen
His style his ethos his free spirit his passion
It simply was an extension of his character his soul his belief
It was akin to love at first sight but much much deeper
It was akin to knowing that someone will be your soulmate from the word go
It was akin to realizing that to all mankind, their main life source was hope. And this was the penguin's life source
As without hope, man ceases to exist
Amazingly this soccer institution invariably, at almost from the very first impression, that fateful and admittedly extremely irritating morning in 1981,
Became the strangest and strongest source of belief and inspiration and strength for this little penguin
Ngiak was born a Manchester United fan
Purely on coincidence and an uncanny merging of the club's ethos and ngiak's soul that had never wavered
Despite the first 10 years of ridicule of their position in the table and resentment of their strong history and support
It had not wavered one iota
On the contrary, the heartbreak and the tears and the losing battles of retaliation with the rival fans
Actually endured ngiak's mind and heart and soul to forge an even firmer and unbreakable cohesion and bond with the club
That will surely last till the end of time . At least the end of ngiak's time

I was at my friend Peter's house, and he was a United supporter. In those days virtually every league match started at 3pm on Saturday. We were watching the results come up over the teleprinter at 4:45 and I found myself drawn into his excitement . It must have been around late 1962 or early 1963 and it was a toss up as to whether United or City would be relegated. It was somewhat before United won the FA Cup against Leicester City.

Regardless of what you think of tom cleverly, the petition to keep him out of the World Cup squad is disgraceful. I really feel sorry for the lad, he might not be setting the world alight, but he's done nothing to warrant this abuse he's got over the last 6 months.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - It's absolutely disgusting Jase. I'm far from being a Cleverley fan but things like that are just wrong. Any Utd fan signing something like that should be ashamed of themselves. On a lighter note have you seen the Arsenal's fans petition?

http://goo.gl/lFTbux

Shocking footballer but he doesn't deserve this terrible abuse.

Agree0 Disagree0

Totally agree. Support any player who is giving 100%. Regardless of who he plays for.

Agree0 Disagree0

Again I'm certainly not his biggest fan but he is and should remain a squad player. Like welbeck and the other homegrown players who can perform in the premier league and internationally. I remember the odd occasion when people like p Neville, even wes brown and butt would get a bit of stick from time to time. The petition is ridiculous and probably just more anti united more than anything. Our club is all the more stronger and has more depth due to the fact that we have these homegrown players around the squad. There's nothing more disappointing in my view than when another one is released or sold for whatever reason.

Agree0 Disagree0

Completely agree, disgraceful. Yes he's not a good footballer, but this kind of slating he's getting really isn't fair.

It's not even his fault he was picked!

Agree0 Disagree0

Im one of his biggest critics at United but this is a disgrace. Its small minded bullying. Also I think he actually plays ok for England.

ED which players do you think we are looking at for LB?

Shaw
Sandro
Coentrao

I've read only these 3 names. Havent read Coentrao's name recently though(after summer deadline day).

Who do you think is most likely?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Read the posts please.}

Ed002 told us yesterday, on the rumours page, Filipe Luis, has been rumoured to us for a while now, (imo not good enough) and Yuto Nagatomo ( all I can remember about him he is very quick) are our targets.

Agree0 Disagree0

Grundy mate I also read Ricardo Rodriguez, is he any good?

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry bro I don't watch much German football, mainly Spanish and Italian though I try to watch players we are heavily linked with.

Agree0 Disagree0

Moyes wants shaw.

Agree0 Disagree0

I want Beyoncé and Rhijana at the same time :) but ED002 is right in another post too much fantasy /sigh.

Agree0 Disagree0

Grund

No fantasy wait till the summer comes. United will get most players if they want to compete on fees and he is one they really want.

A lot of the other players being mentioned in the press, whilst there is interest in some we will not go nuts in paying over the odds to get them and will have other options.

I.e. Mangala, Carvalho.

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Mar 2014 10:26:59
Players that need to leave United or will leave and are leaving some for the good of their careers or just one last money making move and the few that will retire from the Amos Lindegaard Vidic Ferdinand Evra Buttner Nani Young Valencia Cleverly Giggs Carrick Cleverly Anderson Bebe Van Persie Welbeck Macheda will hopefully leave with Mannone De Sciglio Garay Shaw Strootman Kroos in

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Totally agree with all the departures except I would Aldo let chi chariot go.My targets would be Mangala, Shaw, Vidal, Kroos, Gundogan, Reus & Cavani & Draxler with a total outlay of around 130 million with the money brought in from the departures. It needs a massive overhaul

Agree0 Disagree0

If only this was football manager!

It is not as easy as just selling all your players and bringing new ones in. I think Valencia, Cleverley, Carrick, Young and Welbeck will all be squad players next season, maybe 1 of them will depart. We still need a big squad of players who are willing to wait for their chance, and these players are vital for that.

Agree0 Disagree0

That would be more than £130 million, Cavani alone would be around £50 million. Its more like a £200 million spend, that would be too many hanges and will never happen.

Expect this summer to definitley get a centre back, left back and one central midfielder. That is not to say that we do not need another central midfielder, right back, back up keeper if Linders leaves and also perhaps a winger come striker.

It will not all happen in one window though. I would be very happy with Garay, Shaw and Kroos for this summer - they are the three that I think we need most. If we could add Griezmann, William Carvalho/Gundogan, Arias and another I would be over the moon. However, I'm still not totally convinced that Rafael needs replacing.

Hi

Probably for Ed002. You done a fabulous piece awhile back and was wondering if you could do a quick update/recap on anything you have heard on our reported targets recently.

I appreciate some of the information is probably the same as before but with the sheer amount of players reportly being linked it would be great to have an accurate list in one place.

Once again thanks for all your help eds.

Just a question fr you Manchester United fans

When did you start supporting Manchester United and why?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

When I was born.
My dad.
Same as my kids.

Agree0 Disagree0

Good question, should get plenty replies!

I am a Rangers fan and season ticket holder of exactly 15 years (I am 21 today and got my ST as a 6th birthday present), but like most up here I have an English team and it's always been United as far as I can remember when I got my first United shirt in 2001. But I'd say I really became a proper fan of the club in 2004. The reason being that everyone was jumping on the Chelsea bandwagon, so I started really following United and they have become not so much my second or English team, but on par with Rangers or very close to it. I read up on the history of the club, got MUTV and watched all the greats and am now a fully fledged fan of almost ten years. I love the club.

What about you Potatohead?

Agree0 Disagree0

As a kid, about 1973, used to play football in the rec. We were always Utd, Best, Law, Charlton.

The rest is history.

Agree0 Disagree0

Since the 2008 final mates

Agree0 Disagree0

I started supporting United from the middle of 2002-2003 season only because I was a huge Beckham fan.

I started watching Football from the 2002 world cup and that got me interested in EPL(Football wasnt that big in India back then, it is huge now -- still in developing stages though).

As I started watching I realized that Scholes is a much better player than Beckham but I was still a Beckham fan.

At the end of that very season Beckham left for Madrid but I chose to stay with United and it has been a great period for us as supporters since then. Yes we have a minor blip now but I'm sure we'll be back to the top in no time.

Agree0 Disagree0

I was at army school when I was 12, I remember once the warden was not around and I had the remote control of TV.

Was browsing some channels and saw a team playing football in red and white. And I ended up watching the whole match.

Then I was 12 and now I am 29 and I just love everything about United.

Agree0 Disagree0

About 1981/82 when I was around 5 or 6. My dad not a supporter but used to go on about Charlton, law and particularly best.

Good question, on an Autumn day back in 2002 I was introduced by my mum (yes my mum. ) who had a spare ticket next to where she's had her ST for 40 years now. At the time the only player I knew for obvious reasons was David Beckham and I decided that i'd go and the opportunity of going cropped up more and more and I learned more and more about what Manchester United is all about and as they say the rest is history

Agree0 Disagree0

Back in the 70s. Loved United's history & attacking philosophy, plus I wanted to be different because at the time almost everybody seemed to be a Liverpool fan!

Agree0 Disagree0

1996 my dad was working in London and got Tickets for the Charity Shield. United won 4-0 I was hooked.
No club loyalty in my family Grandad was a Wolves Supporter back in the 50's, the old man a Port Vale supporter ( I still blame having to watch them as a kid for my lack of football knowledge lol).

SrevenC I hope your team get financial security and soon. Your recent owners have been taking the p*** and the cash.

Agree0 Disagree0

Myself I got the bug in 1966 watching England win the WC, I was 11 then never interested until that time in football. Bobby Charlton was majestic.

Then I saw him play for United with Best and Law there was never going to be another team after that, even through the despair of the 70s that was still worse than now.

Agree0 Disagree0

Steven my real name isn't Potatohead you know that admin from Barnet? That's the reason I took this name but any how I've supported Everton since 2011 because I liked Everton and didn't watch football that much.

Mam and uncle are Manchester United daft so I followed suit, can't remember the exact time I started supporting but my earliest memories were beating barca in the cup winners cup, always remember mark hughes going round the keeper and firing in into the net so I guess I started taking an interest around that time.

@ Grund

Thanks mate, me too. The whole fiasco is/has been heartbreaking, we are a great club with good values but we've been taken for a ride big time. Hopefully we can get some stability at board level asap and get back to where we should be. I am still attending every match, home and away, but the football is as much an issue as anything to be honest. Ally McCoist is a Rangers legend, but as a manager he is seriously lacking.

Agree0 Disagree0

My dad always took an interest in them and its the first proper team I ever watched. I may not be a Manc but I have loves this club for the past 13 years since I was 6 and got my first shirt.

Agree0 Disagree0

From the day I was born, my first game was when I was 5 and I have hardly missed a home game since. I didn't have a choice, stories from my Grandma about Munich and my dad getting excited every match day, how could I not support the greatest team in the world?

Agree0 Disagree0

What a wonderful post!

In 1966. I live in South Africa and in those days I played under 16 football for a team known as Highlands Park FC. Our kit was almost an identical replica of United's, ergo I became a supporter.

We did not get TV in South Africa until the late 70's so relied on radio, newspapers and magazines for any scrap of info I could get.

We also did not get British Football on TV until the mid 90's but through a work connection in London I used to get Betamax cassettes of 'Match of the Day' sent to South Africa. A bunch of us, fully dressed in MU kit used to sit around watching MOTD - albeit about 10 days after broadcast in the UK.

Nowadays we get every game broadcast live in South Africa.

Over the years I have managed to make 15 pilgrimages to Old Trafford. Am delaying the next one until we have a squad worth coming over to watch.

1976. My Dad is a Manchester United fan and I watched the FA Cup Final against Southampton which we lost. A year later we beat the scouse 2-1 to win the FA Cup and stop them winning the treble. I was only 7 but was hooked for life!

Agree0 Disagree0

Since 1969

Because It's a family tradition and my father, God rest him used to bring me over regularly from Dublin by boat and train, ( not easy for a 7 year old but well worth it!)

My 13 and 11 year old are maintaining the tradition.

United Till I die!

Agree0 Disagree0

Well, digressing a bit as I am not a
Manchester United fan. but I remember taking my brother (who, from then on became a United fan) to his first game at Old Trafford. You will be able to grasp that I am of a certain age when I tell you that Albert Quixall (record signing) made his home debut

Agree0 Disagree0

Since 1979 my first year in boarding school in England and remember watching us lose the fa cup final to arsenal.

Agree0 Disagree0

1990 fa cup final vs crystal palace, I didn't support anyone until that day, went to a replay and thankful Lee Martin got the winner, to think I could be a palace fan now, no disrespect!

Agree0 Disagree0

Watch United play when I was 5 and demanded my parents get me a jersey. I was in love.

Agree0 Disagree0

1967. But first went to OT in 1970.
I've watched many a good match!

Agree0 Disagree0

My earliest memory of a United game was 1966 i.e. I was 8 and went to a 2-2
draw between United and Burnley when Andy Lockhead was playing for Burnley
I also United play Leeds United under Revie and the derby match against City when Glynn Pardoe broke his leg.My greatest memories of the old days was George Best running half the length of OT to score the winner against Chelsea and United Slaughtering West Brom 7-0 in an evening fixture,
I have lived through all the managers since Busby and clearly Sir Alex had the greatest success. Some of the players to thrill have been amazing and the discipline was there for all to see.
Now Moyes needs to build a new tem and blend experience with youth and until the team start winning trophies again his future will always be in question. The United spirit will never die and this is something that gives me hope for the future.

Agree0 Disagree0

August 1968 watching the Manchester derby match on TV and my brother told me the team in red were European champions and I should support them. Hooked.

Agree0 Disagree0

In 76 when six yrs old, my dad was a utd fan, my first games QPR, Everton, sat on the railings and sw my dad at halftime and full time, in those days didn't care about the league just loved watching them and being there, standing, the small club shop, the kit, the noise, Gordon Hill, Mcilroy, Buchanan, happy days.

Agree0 Disagree0

Since Leeds beat United to the old division 1 because we lost the game againts Liverpool without short of drama. striking the bar and post. Then cutscene Lee Chapman and Cantona watching the game on the sofa . handshakes after the final whistle. Full on after that.

I think we will learn a lot from the team picked to play West Brom. I hope its similar to the team that played Palace. Will Jones play and where? Unless they play him RB, which tells us nothing, CM for Carrick or Fellaini then that's where Moyes sees him. If Evans is 100 % he should replace Rio. The front 4 though is crucial and I hope its the same as Palace.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think we will go for:

___________DDG
Smalling_Jones_Vidic_Evra
______Fellaini_Carrick
__Januzaj__Rooney__Mata
___________RVP

We have to start playing that team as opposed to Young and Valencia. That is our strongest team and that front line is the foundation of this team and they need to gel. Its a pretty strong team although I would rather have Rafael at right back.

Agree0 Disagree0

I would leave one of rooney/rvp out.

play kagawa in the whole with mata one side and Januzaj on the other but that is just my personal opinion.

do not think moyes has the personality or bottle to do that to one of them though.

Agree0 Disagree0

Fresh. spot on with that selection
Oxred. I cannot believe that you are actually saying leave out RVP or Rooney out for Kagawa.
What is going through your mind. they are our two best players.
Kagawa is finished at United and will be sold in the summer, he doesn't fit in, the premier league is just to fast and physical for him for god sake get over this bloody Kagawa obsession.
Yes a very good talent but it just hasn't worked out for him here.

Agree0 Disagree0

Simmo there seems to be an incredible love in for a player that has done exactly nowt since being here people keep going on about him not playing in his best position! so what we see players being played out of there best position all the time and they still give something to the team I personally do not understand how people could even contemplate leaving out one of our best players to bring this guy in.

Face facts he will not work out here he will probably go elsewhere and be amazing just ain't worked for him here.

Now there are fresh claims of unrest between RVP and Moyes. Though I do not believe what's said in papers, but if this is correct then without wasting anymore time we must play Rooney as lone striker, then Mata in no 10 role, Janujaz left and let Kagawa interchange with Mata from right to middle.

This will probably allow Mata to play at his strengths and I have a feeling that Kagawa will link up very well with Mata.

In midfield I would like to play The wig along with Tom, yes Tom.

The back four will be Evra, Vidic, Smalling and Rafael.

Thoughts eds?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed004's Note - I agree with the team but feel it should be RVP as the main striker}

Completely dissagree.
RVP has to play, even if he's going at the end of the season which I think is likely.
We have to accomodate our best 4 players, Mata, RVP, Rooney and Janujaz every game if we want to finish as high a possible.
RVP up top with Rooney, Mata left, Janujaz right. Fellaini and Carrick in the central midfield area.
I would never ever pick Tom Cleverly if Fellaini, Carrick, Fletcher are fit. He's way donn the pecking order now and rightly so.
Shocking player who has no strengths to his game and doesn't have any influences in any way shape or form.
the second half at Palace actual;ly looked quite proimising with that formation.

Agree0 Disagree0

Without sounding like teachers pet have to agree with ed04 and much prefer RVP up front and like the look of that kind of team set up
Paying £300,000 a week for Rooney to sit on the bench would sum up Moyes season though

Agree0 Disagree0

Personally I would pick Cleverley over Carrick too as I feel that, whilst not doing much, he still gets us too push up a bit more and we are a little more mobile in the middle which is important.

As for RVP, I think with all this uncertainty he needs to come out and say that it's all nonsense and that he is here for the long run. This speculation is not doing the club or him any good. If he is leaving though and we couldn't get a world class replacement like Cavani then yes I would put Rooney up top and stick Kagawa in the side.

Agree0 Disagree0

Do not think he is good enough for cm. but what about rooney in there with fellani and then jan, kags, mata, RVP. ?

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed004, RVP has missed some sitters in recent games. I love him but I just do not see him to be 100% at the moment. Whatever the reason is, it is not helping him.

And I really like to see Mata played behind Rooney with a four man attack.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed004's Note - Maybe it's cause I hate the way Rooney has treated the club, not trying to start an argument it's pointless I won't change my mind, but I'd rather RVP as the out and out striker and as he is by far the better striker}
