Possesion football wins you nothing!!! Not

If you speak in regards to Barcelona last night then you jibe is inaccurate. They play possession football with several twists including quick counter attacking and making use of the greatest player to ever have played very effectively. Possesion football with average players wins you nothing is more like it.

{Ed025's Note - fair point that JMB..
07 Jun 2015 07:35:58
Playing quick forward passes and attacking in numbers wins you games. Movement, look at all 3 of their goals!
1. Left Back running into space left by their left winger, Midfield runner passing it to other midfield runner in the box. Young would have been stood out wide so no space, Rooney and Fellaini wouldn't have been anywhere near the box or lingering on the back post for a cross which would have arrived 30 seconds later.
2. Striker following up a shot, we are lucky 2 have 2 men forward let alone 2 running for a rebound
3. Counter attack at pace, this happened all game with 5 on 3's. We never outnumbered the defensive players or broke from midfield aside from once against Arsenal, QPR and Yeovil.
How many times this season did we have a defence scrambling, comparing our game with Barcelonas is just wrong, only comparison is the number of players on the field?

Jmb
Fair point.
I forgot to add 'mostly'.
But i must add, we are in the end talking about lvg here. He's the 'problem'. Him and his possession football. So, just for comparison, we should look at what he wants us to be playing like and not what we actually are playing like. I know it sounds counterproductive but its the plan that matters firstly, then the execution.
So look at his previous teams, its never all possession and all slow. It involved counter attack as well as a lot of direct football. The issue is with all our injuries and players struggling to adapt, we haven't been able to do what he wants bar a few games in which we looked very pleasing to the eyes. I'm not saying he's been faultless, far from it. But to say that he 'ideally' wants us to be playing the way we have is wrong. We will play fast, we will counter attack and we will also keep possession. Atleast that's the plan. Now the execution, that depends on a lot of things. If not, there's always klopp.

This is a style Barcelona have had ingrained in them over many years, it was built up from Cryuff laying the foundations to LVG carrying on the work, followed by Rjikard and pep continuing the work.
It was not built over night, it took patience and persistence.

They just have very good players that can play possession one touch football and also now a front 3 that can go from 2nd gear to 5th gear in a second and scary good.
They are a better team now that they were when we played them. Next year they will ben be better IMO. Might be watching a true dynasty here if already not there with 4 cl wins in 10 years. Pretty young team if you discount alves and some might argue quite few of their players have not even peaked yet.

He gets all the media hype because of his history with us and its like rubbing in. He would find the Pl a lot harder than Italy. 40 mill is about right for him.
Way overhyped and I would take rakitic/Verrati/Matic/Modric/ over him. His agent is the modern day pimp of professional football.

For me he does not influence the game enough and gets caught out of position and commits quite a few fouls. Vidal is more influential than Pogba and i do realise there is big age difference and with time he might become that key midfield player but at the moment he is nowhere near that and you see a big gap when you watch someone like iniesta who is pure class. The numbers being touted are ridiculous and if he moves we might be surprised to see a much lower number.
Its like Dyabala, who just moved to Juve for a lot less than what their president was constantly talking about.
Agree0

07 Jun 2015 12:00:02
Pogba is very young and I'm sure will turn into one of the best. But all the hype around him is crazy!
A very good young player with the potential to be great. The problem I see with him is, if anyone buys him will they get the great player (meaning he sticks around long enough) they want or will they be the next phase in him becoming the one the best for the next club he signs for?
Agree0

07 Jun 2015 12:40:12

That is a good point because at the moment he will not be able to get into the starting eleven of Madrid or Barca as their midfielders are much more polished.
if he moves it is to a club below those 2 and next stop is one of those 2 if he keeps developing.

RvP likely to be off to Lazio and Falcao also not likely to continue.
Chicharito and Henriquez likely to move on as well.
That leaves us with Rooney and Wilson. If we add Benzema to that equation I think a strike force of Rooney, Benzema and Wilson should be enough next season given that we have Depay, Mata and ADM who will also chip in with their fair share of goals.
What do you guys think?

Massive fan of Benzema and I think that those 3 are fantastic options. Maybe even Will Keane as a 4th choice?
If it was me, against the weaker teams especially, I'd love to see us play two up top and sacrifice a midfielder. Rooney off Benzema would be frightening.

Go where? you are very naive i have to say. He is due to make 12 million pounds plus bonuses. Do you know of any club who is willing to pay that plus a transfer fee and do we look like we have plenty of alternatives to even look for a deal like that.
You thinkRVP is willing to take a 6 million pay cut at best so gets first choice guarantees when he knows he is physically not what he was and probably unable to play that number of games anyway and uproot his family from the UK to some foreign country after basically living in the UK for 10 years.

Im not going to say I have full confidence in Valdes after that article. As i knew he made some speeches even before reserve games, I do however think with match practice he could push to be number 1.
We need some vocal people in the dressing room, i bet Valdes can't believe how quiet this great club has gotten recently.
Its a really good point about de Gea not organising the defense and really we could do with someone that does, I'd give Valdes a shot, i see no reason why not.

On the subject of last nights game I think that cillessen van Der wiel de Jong and sneijder could really add quality to our team for next year, huntelaar if we're being greedy. Didn't play last night but concrete Ron would solve all sorts of problems for us.

Michael Bradley (Toronto) was an absolute boss in midfield for USA too. Yedlin (Spurs) was a real handful when came on too. You could see Klinsmann telling the yanks to 'GIVE IT TO YEDLIN'!!
Don't know what game u was watching JMB but Depay was near unplayable last night, against a very underatted USA. A bit like Valencia in the final third, but has an awesome cross on him aswell as a potent shot. He could easily have scored a couple himself had he not been too unselfish on 2 occasions when they appeared to be cruising.
Apologies about top top comments, I can assure u I'm not Harry. I'm Irish for a start, but live in Milton Keynes and it's a term we use a lot down here!!

If De Gea leaves which is more than possible and we also sign a new striker like it's being reported, then along with other areas we need to sort that could be 7 new signings.
Gk, st, rb, cb, cm, dcm and Depay. That is without another winger if ADM leaves.
I just can't see us making that many changes, it would be too many all in 1 go.
Most needed are CB, CM and RB. Hope we sort them first.

Surprise surprise for the 2nd time in his career, Benzema is not interested in a move to Old Trafford. I haven't seen any comments but my guess is that as Ed says he doesn't want to leave (nor I suspect miss out on any loyalty bonus) rather than saying he is not interested in U.S. I doubt Beckham wanted to leave United but if a player isn't wanted by the club and they can get their loyalty bonus and keep their salary level then see what happens.
