Makes me laugh reading City fans posting on Uniteds page- I wouldn't even think of posting or even reading your page.

I will admit City are class on the pitch right now but you're real trash off it....

Knowing your luck oil will run out - ha!

You lose with better grace than you win stuff - but you are used to losing aren't you.......

How are they class?

They won the title on goal difference with a team that suppost to be sooooo amazing.

the spent hundreds of million to snatch it on goal difference I wouldn't say that's class

L.Moura talked to 'Folha' after the game abt PSG: This is the good thing, I'll stay at SPFC until the end of the year. It's well underway'

Looks like ED was right PSG will offer the best package for him and let him stay in Brazil tlll January another player slips away

Anyone think it would be worth while putting in a bid for Joe Allen? He was impressive at the olympics and for Swansea this year. Being still relatively young he could learn a lot from Scholes and become a class act.

We don't need average mate, Powell is better and he's how old?

If Lucas Moura thinks Manchester is boring then he's better off in Paris! But I think the PSG clincher was the fact Leonardo and Sao Paolo have previous.

The RVP deal is dead in the water due to Arsenal having a bit of activity in the transfer market, the thought of an RVP/Podolski partnership is quite scary to be honest!

Sir Alex better start looking at his plan C's and fast otherwise there's gonna be a lot of disappointed UTD fans, me included, we need a bit more than Nick Powell and Kagawa to win the league with the rate the others are buying!

Eriksen, Dembele and Cissoko for me all the way!

Believable3 Unbelievable7

Totally agree. And if fergie thinks our midfield is good then we might as well give up this season completely. We need modric and Martinez to even stand a chance of competing wth real barca Chelsea and citeh.

Well if rumours can be relied on then it looks like we may miss out on Moura which i can't say i'm gutted about. Far too much money on a player who would be a huge gamble imo. He is also a player i don't feel we need. A LB CM and LW(left footed) is what our squad is missing.

At LB Cissokho would appear the stand out player but if you look closer then his price and his previous trouble with medicals suddenly make him a less attractive option. Izaguirre is probably the best option with Oviedo being a great option if we wanna take a bit more of a gamble as he's younger and would cost less but has more potential.

As for LW, James Rodriguez being the obvious choice. But his club are renowned for being awkward to deal with and his cost is likely to be a minimum of 30m if not closer to 35m which would make him our record signing. Is he good enough? personally i'd say yes but he has only really shown what he is about over the last six months of his 18 months in europe so some would say it may be best to see how he does over the next year and maybe go in for him next summer and it would be hard to argue with them. But we need someone now.
So i feel the best left footed winger we could get is

Nicolas Gaitan, i know alot of you weren't that impressed with him but he has great vision and the ability to unlock the tightest defenses. He also like to keep the ball and pass and move which is the type of football that we are aiming for. After Gaitan the next best option imo is Antione Griezmann who would be cheaper and i feel is gonna have a break out season next year, he's quick and decisive with a good eye for goal and great passinf ability.

Now this just leaves the midfield. Now as i see it we will be having three kinds of midfielder in our squad, We have a deeper lying player who will break up opposition play and shield the back four while also starting attacks and being able to pass and retain the ball. Then theres a more box to box type player who makes space and makes himself available for a pass at all times, they keep the ball moving and set the tempo of the team. The lastly there is the player who plays between the lines of midfield and attack, the player who links at all together and chips in with a few goals. Now along with these three types of midfielder i think we need three players of each, one to be the experianced head to teach the younger ones, one who is in their prime and lastly a youngster who is learning his trade and will move on up the ranks with time.

Now if we look at our midfield we have Giggs Kagawa and Lingard as the player who plays the more attacking role with possably Anderson aswell, so no one is needed here.

Then we have Scholes Cleverley and Powell as the midfield tempo setter, so again no one needed here.

But we only have Carrick and Tunnicliffe as more defensive player as it's unlikely that Fletcher will be back even in the light of recent developments. So this is where we need someone.

Now the obvious choice would be Axel Witsel but looking at his price and the fact Real Madrid are very keen on him i doubt we'll see him. The player i feel would be best for this role is in fact Marouane Fellaini, now i know there is some opposition to his signing amoungst fans but he is a quality player and one of the best in the league in average Everton side. He is a better player for Everton than Valencia was for Wigan so i see no reason why Fellaini can't step up the same if not better. The only other option i feel would be good for this role is Sami Khedira and with Madrid looking at Witsel he may become available but there have been question marks over his pace and fitness before, although i don't see a problem with them.

If we could get Izaguirre Gaitan and Fellaini i would consider that a great summer. But i doubt we'll see them but one can hope.

Gaitan is not good enough for Manchester United

Muniain would be more the level

If Rooney gets injured we struggle to score hence the interest in a striker

Red Man

Agree1 Disagree1

Shappy I like your posts, they're well laid out and concise etc. And I mostly agree with this one, apart from two things. 1. Carrick is not, and never has been a ''more defensive player''. When he was at Spurs he was more attacking, liked to hover on the edge of the opposition box and create chances or take shots. He was never a player to break up attacks and I wouldn't even consider him a box to box midfielder. He was put in this position last season because we had no one else. He did ok, but I don't want to see him there again. 2. Witsel is pretty much unproven IMO, he's a strong tackler (maybe too strong) and would face the wrath of the PL referees. It's clear he has an attitude problem of sorts. We need a playmaker, not someone who wants to break people's legs. Fellaini, I would like to see at United, but his best position is behind the striker. He's evolved from a holding mid to a more attack minded mid. Moutinho/Sahin is what we need. Someone who will work and has already gained a good amount of experience playing in Europe.

Andy

Agree0 Disagree0

Well Red Man we'll have to.disagree on Gaitan being good enough, I think he'd be a great signing.

Andy, I think we lost.the league by not controlling the midfield and being bullied.off.the ball too easily. Also Carrick isn't a traditional DM but.he is.the player.who shields the back four and he has.been doing.that job for.us for years, he tends to intercept rather than tackle but the he starts the moves from deep while trying.to dictate the tempo.of.the game through his passing. So he is the more.defensive player in our midfield.
Fellaini is able.to.do many jobs.in midfield which is.why I think he'd be a.great signing, he can do the defensive work but can also be.of.use.going forward which is what we.need.

i think people are jumping the gun regards fletcher. I seriously doubt he will ever play again. Its a shame and i really like the guy but his health is more important. I was reading a blog post by a united fan who's also a doctor and its a really serious condition. He's lost a lot of weight and muscle which will be hard to put back on and his game was geared towards his physical attributes. He hasn't played for two years practically and thats a lot of football he's missed. I'm just saying it will be very hard for him to come back. If anyone can it will be Fletch but some people on here i think are holding out on him coming back as good as he was when its unlikely.

Lets face it, Arsenal have massively outdone us in the transfer market so far and i am anticipating a Rooneyesque uturn from Van Persie I would say at a guess he will sign a new contract in the next 7 days. This is dissapointing but could be a blessing in disguise as we can sign Lewandowski rather than an injury prone striker who is very on-off, as was shown at the Euros where he didnt perform particularly well.

How on earth have they massively outdone us? I'd be amazed to see anyone back up that claim.

PSG have just saved us £30m. Every single transfer window we get a new messi on the horizon. Have a look at this kid on YouTube. He never finds anyone with his final ball and he has one trick a drag back. You'll always see teams after these amazing attacking 19 yr olds. You never see any of the teams looking to buy the defenders they go by,reason been there crap. These players play in a crap league and I haven't seen any of them make it. Also how long to you really think he'd have stayed with us 2/3 seasons. Then it would be "my heart is with Madrid " blah blah. Also I've read that his own fans have been given him a hard time recently. I think this was a make money quick by glazers. Buy him for £25/30m then sell him for £50/60m. I'd love to see us spend that money on yohan cabaye.

Couple of questions -
If Lucas Moura was so good, how come he is not a starter in the Brazilian Olympic side?
Who is putting these videos together publicising him on the internet? You have to be quite the fan to spend that amount of time putting them together, unless of course you have a financial interest in him to make it worth your while.
He is very small, do people think he would be that good in the Premiership when players in the EPL are generally getting bigger and more physical. Personally I don't think he would adapt very well and with the costs involved I wouldn't take the risk. Nor with Van Persie.

Believable3 Unbelievable2

I am sick of this 'he can't even get in the Brazil team'. He is 19 years old for God sake. He is a brilliant talent and WILL be one of the best players in the world. That is why he costs 30m.

United to turn their attentions to Benfica's Axel Witsel. The Belgian midfielder is thought to be an answer to Yaya Toure as he is a true box-to-box midfielder that can defend, and still add an extra bite to our attack. Plus, with the Lucas Moura deal seeming to stall due to the interest from PSG, it seems as if we'll have the necessary capital to fund the move. #GGMU.

An open letter to the ed's. Really great site i check it a few times a day, you guy's do an awesome job. Must get on your nerves reading the thousands of post's on Moura and RVP. Just a quick question whats your opinion on this transfer Window been? I've found it quite boring in a way, all the repetitive links to the same players and SAF being so open about transfer targets has taken some of the mystery and fun away from the window. All real followers of united know we tend to make all our signings straight away (Powell and Kagawa) or there deadline day signings (like Berb's a few years ago). I'm not expecting much more from united myself this window. and everyone talking about our weak midfield, we've got the three best wingers in the league in Valencia, Young and Nani (if he stays) and i'm sure Carrick, Scholes, Giggs, Cleverley, Kagawa and Anderson will do us just fine in the center. Plus having Vidic back from such a long term injury will be just as good as any signing we could make this window in my opinion. we lost out on the league by goal difference with a lot of injuries last year i'm sure this year with the current squad we will get the title back. One last thing to the people who are always after a big name marquee signing's if you want a club who'll do that every window united aren't for you we build squads not a bunch individual's. Thanks for reading and sorry for writing such a long post.

I wonder sometimes what this site would be like if the club was still a plc and Martin Edwards was still Chairman. It seems to me that it would be about the same - only the names would have changed.
When was this golden pre Glazer era of unlimited transfer funds and every transfer target agreeing to join us?
I seem to remember huge dissent regarding dividends to shareholders, Edwards grip on the purse strings, no value in the market, players opting for sunnier climes/bigger wages etc etc
I'm no fan of the Glazers, I was no fan of Edwards but I do trust Sir Alex to try to try to recruit the best players for our team and develop the youth talent we have. He's not done badly for us despite any constraints placed on him over the years.
Have a little faith guys and don't be sucked in by paper talk of overpriced and underproven teenage whizzkids we've only seen on youtube.
Mr Q

Believable9 Unbelievable5

The main issue with the plc was wages the transfer fees were never that much of a problem, once kean had dug his heels in and broke the pay structure we were quite competitive in the transfer market.
jred

Agree0 Disagree0

Mr Q

The problem is that pre Glazer , plc or not we broke transfer records and bought some top players. The criticism of the plc was that they didn't go a step further and buy the very top world players when certainly we might have taken a step to be a real player in Europe. Since the Glazers arrived we have looked for value in the market, they got their fingers burnt with Berbatov and have looked to add players with potentially increasing value.

During ths time, despite the absolutely obvious signs of decline in the last two years we have failed to buy for key positions. We relied on bringing a 37 year old out of retirement and selling it as a great player who should never have left.
The protestations by SAF about how good the Glazers are seems too keen to show his support at a time when they have not shown the ambition needed to make us truly successful.

There have been many links with players and this summer we need to make a couple of serious transfers happen or be left behind. Chelsea are moving, Arsenal are buying and City will undoubtedly buy. Where we are right now will leave us lacking attacking pace and scoring ability and control in midfield

It is time these owners invested heavily in their business

Red Man

Agree1 Disagree0

Excellent post. The ownership is irrelevent. Like it or not the club is run as a business and the owners want to make money from it be it as a PLC or a private compnay. Fans should just appreciate that Utd do play attractive football and we are always there or thereabouts each year. All this spend big to compete with the sugar daddy clubs stuff is pure nonsense.

Big rant.... But all comments welcome,,,
It looks like we have missed out on another name today in Mora,, this is money motivated,, can't see why else he would want to waste his talents in France,, am sure he will regret not playing for the biggest club in the world, I would of loved to see Mora in red but is he realy needed??? Ferguson must think we have a problem on the wing,,, we have been linked with hazzard,Rodriguez, gaitan, isco, I'm a fan of nani and wouldn't want see him go,, we alllll no we need that midfield enforcer,, I no we all go on how we lost the title on goals but we never played like champions at all last season, we are desperate for that quality in are team,, we have to replace scholes and giggs...

Valencia. Kagawa. Moutinho. Nani

Rooney. V persie

Believable3 Unbelievable3

I don't think we need a midfield enforcer, I think those players are a thing of the past. I reckon so does Fergie. I think we'll see a change in formation, something that he wanted to do last season but didn't have the right players; not because of quality but because of who they are and where they play. We looked old fashioned last season, not 'bad' as some have suggested. 4-4-2 is dead, and so is the dogs body in the middle of the park.

On a positive note, we have Kagawa and Powell, and with Vidic, Cleverley and fingers crossed for the lad Fletcher, we'll have 2or3 players back that we know can make a difference.

I get the frustration of other teams signing players and every summer we leave a bit disappointed. However, most of us fans hype it up on a whole new level and buy into stories that honestly we know are made up but want them to make true. Honestly, signing players has never lose out on trophies in comparison to injuries. I understand not all of them can be prevented but let's not have our infamous significant injuries for next season.

There is a lot of doom and gloom on the site about Lucas Moura and also reflecting back on missing out on Hazard. Firstly, its worth noting that we haven't missed out on Moura yet, its just paper talk, who knows what really going on. Secondly, at the start of the window, no one was mentioning his name as someone they were desperate to sign and he is by no means a necessity like Kagawa was. Thirdly, he is massively over priced for someone that is such a massive risk. I am not saying that he won't become a top player, but £30 million for a 19 year old in my eyes is rediculously.

Its also important to note that money is there for transfers and wages. We put a value on a player, i.e. £25 million for Modric. This is the best way at doing business and protecting yourself. Its like playing £10 million for a £4 million pound house. Only a certain few like City and PSG can pay silly money for everyone. But our valuation is beside the point, we refuse to pay the agents the £5 million that they require for selling their player. I can totally respect this as the agents don't act in the best interest of the player, they just want to line their own pockets. I am delighted that we don't get held to ransom by greedy agents. We will still get quality in, but it might not be the huge names.

"I feel sitting on the bench wont help him as pastore, lavezzi and zlatan will be first choice." to the one who said this about lucas moura, dont you think even at united, he wil sit on bench, as De gea and vidic wil be first choice? :D

silv3rzz ; )

Believable0 Unbelievable8

I don't get your point, Moura is a winger/ attacking mid so is Lavezzi. Pastore is an attacking mid. Zlatan is striker. All roles Moura could do as PSG but he'll be benched.

Vidic is a centreback and De Gea is a keeper so wouldn't relate to Moura.

Agree0 Disagree0

Well arguably Lavezzi, Nene and Pastore could all play in Moura's position meaning he would not be first choice..

Agree0 Disagree0

Why do people feel he'll be first choice with us? Its just because of his price tag, If we signed him for 4/6m then no one would expect him to be first choice but 30m and he has to be regardless of who else is in the team.

The facts are that Nani Valencia Young Kagawa Rooney and Welbeck would all be played ahead of Moura if he came to us. As all are better/more complete players than Moura currently is. I mean for christ sakes he's 19 and would be moving from the other side of the world and will take time to settle in at very least plus he has loads of rough edges that need smoothing out. The way people talk about him on here is like they expect him to come in and be as good as Ronaldo. Wise up. When we signed Ronaldo we had just sold Beckham, the only players who could play right wing were Fletcher and Solskjear and it wasn't the natural position of either of them. So Ronaldo had a clean run. Moura's situation would be very different.

I saw on here that ed002 has said that psg have made contact about moura and you have to assume he may sign for them if cash is his motivation or the league/city appeals to him more but I was wondering about ffp. Isnt it this season when the financial side is being monitored from and if so with the spending of psg would they comply with ffp rules?. I dont recall them making loads of cash like real, barcelona and us but they could have massive sponsorship or other club based revenue (apart from owners cash) I dont know about. On another note I would love rvp to sign for us, admit it is a risk but think him, rooney, kagawa and welbeck would combine well and bring the kind of interplay we had with cole/yorke or ronaldo/rooney.bookedredmole

Good question, surely they would not with a further 45m euro outlay for moura. But my knowledge of the details of ffp are limited

i dont want to sound like a liverpool fan should we go trophyless 4 another season ..(making noise over past achievements) fergie should act .its quite fustrating sometimes if you always tune into radio/tv and all you hear is other teams signing on players while Man United is now targeting some1... i hope we are not been taken 4 granted as united fans.i dont even know what to believe about a united rumour anymore, its always goes like is a target, almost done, being linked to,has been seen near ot... i know all what most of us want to hear is a player has put pen to paper. i wonder even if my voice is been heard by some united official to carry this one to OT for me( still a united fan though)

07 Aug 2012 17:07:36
Leaving aside people's shifting opinions on Moura, I am concerned for the larger trend. Seemingly we can't buy the best players available. Whether bc of money (others endless supply or our glazer-induced cheapness) or the lack of attraction to Manchester itself, or any other reasons, this is a serious problem which has now shown itself atleast a half dozen times (Hazard, Moura, Nasri, Sanchez, Ozil, etc). Losing Lucas may or may not prove to be a huge mistake, but I think this is scary bc its part of a continuing trend that has seen United struggle to compete for the CL. Moura would have been an important player, but a far more important statement. -KG

Believable4 Unbelievable3

We cant just cave into the ludicrous demands of players like hazard or nasri, or the demands of agents in the case of moura apparently. If you do where does it stop? you end up like city paying s*** players 150k a week and before you know it the club is out of business. Sanchez was a simple choice between us and barca, and if i wasnt a united fan the choice would be an easy one, barca every time.
I wouldnt be worried, kagawa will prove to you that quality can be purchased at a reasonable price and not every player is a mercenary, they are just a little harder to find.

07 Aug 2012 16:28:10
Guys, this RVP signing makes no sense whatsoever. The way i see it, we are going for one of a possible two formations, either
4-4-1-1 or 4-2-3-1
The purchasing of kagawa and the pre season games are evidence of this. its then safe to assume rooney will be the 1 up front with kagawa pulling the strings behind him, with welbeck and chicha as backup for kagawa and rooney respectively. Giggs will also provide backup for kagawa. So where exactly does everybody see RVP fitting in?
Lets also not forget that berba is struggling to find a new club and there is no news of a move away for macheda either. The glazers will NOT sanction a move for RVP whilst we already have 4 strikers on the books it makes no business sense at all.
Now i could be wrong but reading between the lines it looks like a highly unlikely transfer.

However moving onto a possible indicator of a transfer, we all know arsenal arent the biggest spenders. Yet as of today they have now signed podolski, giroud, and cazorla. A considerable outlay by arsenals standards. Is it possible that M'Vila is now a much bigger possibility, if we were ever in for him at all that is.

Sahin is a no go for me, if the kid cant depose xabi alonso and or sami khedira then he mustnt be good enough, and if mourinho is willing to sell after 1 season he must think the same. Fergie will know this as well.

Speaking of real madrid the modric saga is an interesting one, we all know when real really want a player they inevitably get them, if a team plays hardball they go public and are very loud about the whole thing and then they stump up the cash, so why is modric not there yet? Is the plan to unsettle him then pull out of a deal and then leave a clear path for united to make a deadline day bid? perhaps in exchange for a smooth deal for nani in return? real do need a winger. Strange how we havent heard anything more about his contract negotiations, and the pursuit of lucas moura always smelled like a nani replacement.

Perhaps a bit of conspiracy theory, but stranger things have happened

What are your thoughts reds?

Believable2 Unbelievable2

Sahin has been injured most of the season and before he moved to real and you watched him is very talented and the reason bvb won the league when he was there and was the player of the year than year as well
on the lucas thing i would be happy if he join but if he dosent not really upset about as we can put the lucas money towards a cm like sahin or m vila and a lb and a do thing we will sign RVP as well
so RVP 20M
sahin or m vila 15m-18m
lb 8-10m
powell 4m
kagawa 13m
thats 65m plus some players leaving around 55m-58m that would be amazing

Agree3 Disagree0

Yeah the RVP rumors were always strange ones, for it to work either Rooney would have to play deeper (where does that leave Kagawa?), Berbatov and another striker are sold and it's a classic 4-4-2, but again...where does that leave Kagawa? He'd be wasted as a CM or winger. It's a strange one, if he did come (which I hope he doesn't, said that from the start) I would be interested to see how Rooney could handle CM, I don't know if it would work but it is a possibility...Rooney feeding Kagawa feeding RVP would be interesting.

M'Vila I can't see coming, from what I've read on this site and others he has a major attitude problem. Not something we need. Also, I'm not sold on his skill. He's too defensive for the way we play. If we need a DM, we have Jones.

Disagree with the Sahin point, i'd love him at United! He was fantastic at Dortmund and would of challenged for a place at Madrid had he not suffered a minor injury (which he has now fully recovered from). In that time Ozil came in and Khedira hit good form, just unfortunate timing. He'd do well with United and could link very well with Kagawa. There aren't many players who could depose Alonso in the world, so don't use that as a reason not to pursue him. Mourinho wanting to sell him is, IMO, more to do with the fact that he recognizes a talent is being wasted. And in true Mourinho fashion will confront it head on...give him to someone else so he can the game time he deserves.

Your point about Modric is, without meaning to sound rude, downright stupid. That doesn't happen in football...period. Why would Mourinho bother? Madrid has good relations with United so going to those lengths to get Nani would be pointless. If they want him, they'll make a bid...simple. It's then up to SAF and the managing team to negotiate. A much more likely replacement for Nani, if he were to go, would be Gaston Ramirez or Iker Munian (who I think we inquired about in January). Isko is now also on the scene and would be just as good and capable of playing anywhere across the front. A good deal could be done for him given Malaga's current financial woes.

Andy

I think it is somewhat far fetched to be honest OP. RVP would fit in a 4-3-3 with Kagawa being the most advanced of the midfield 3.

RedDevil19

Agree0 Disagree2

RD19 - that would work but where does that leave Valencia, Young, Nani?

I can't see the manager playing without 2 of these wide men which is why I also find it hard to see where RVP will fit in

I know it's a squad game but player's like Rooney and RVP command a regular place in the starting XI

All that said, I'd be happy if we do get him! I trust the manager at the end of the day so it would be interesting to see how he would fit them together

Gav

Agree0 Disagree0

RVP
Kagawa Rooney Valencia
Scholes/Clev Anderson/Carrick

I just assumed this would be it,
(since the early summer when Lewandowski was being banded about). This is the modern games formation right? And this gives Rooney Messi's role. Kagawa and Valencia bombing into forward positions, and them all interchanging etc. Good subs in young and nani, and enough midfielders (include Fletch, Jones and Powell in that as well). Voila, fast free flowing football.

If this talent is so good where are they and why haven't they broken through like the era of Beckham, Scholes, giggs, Butt and the Nevilles.
It doesn't matter how young they are if they are good enough then they would be in the side.
The fact is we need to strengthen and if you think that we don't then you didn't pay attention last season.

For the majority of last season we were average at best and in Europe we were dog sh*t. We simply didn't have the players with the technique to hold onto the ball in the middle of the park, it was terrible!
People have been waffling on about all this talent coming through for the past two / three years but i still haven't seen any of them break through and the ones who were on the verge of getting the odd game here and there left and found other clubs.

We are relying on 39 and 40 year old veterans Giggs and Scholes. A lazy Brazilian who is never fit and doesn't play more than 10 games a season. A hyped up Tom Cleverley who hasn't proved anything yet and Micheal Carrick who has been steady but never sets the world on fire and Fletcher who may never come back.
Compare that to Chelsea's midfield, City's Midfield and even Arsenal's midfield this season and we look weak.
It's only Fergie being a genius and knocking a winning mentality into these players that they got anywhere near City last season. Any other manager would have failed.

Simmo
---------------------------------------------------------------
Simmo

I'm not thinking for next season but the season after we will have, Lingard, Powell and Tunners coming through and I think they wlll be absolute quality (especially the first two). We do need a left back because I don't think Blackett is or ever will be good enough and we do still need an out and out flair player.

My point was that people just seam to think it's the end of the world whenever we miss out on a target! I agree we still need to strengthen but the point is we will do but in inteligent transfers like Kagawa and Powell.

Finally don't accuse me of not paying attention I am fully aware we need to improve in europe, and was as dissapointed and shocked with our lack of technique and possesion last year, but this was the first time in years we didn't progress and do well. It was a blip that SAF i'm sure has a plan to resolve.

Red Joe

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Red Joe

Lets see if you are correct...you reckon this time next year Lingard, Powell and Tunners will be in the first team?
I don't think they will and even if they are promoted to the first team they won't play a big part.
If they are that good they would be playing now simple!
You say Kagawa was an inteligent transfer, yes he was but he was bought because he was available at the wrong end of 20 million and it fitted our spend.

Simmo

Agree1 Disagree3

Simmo, you'd really through a load of 16-17-18 year olds into the most physical of the top European leagues?

They have not played for the first team simply because they are not physically ready for it, nothing to do with talent. They are still physically developing.

I'm guessing you'll come back with well Rooney did it but thats because Rooney was a physical freak at 16.

I'll list a few others who played in the league at the age of 17-18 and you can tell me if it was a good idea:

Michael Owen, Jack Rodwell, James Vaughan, Jack wilshire, Cesc Fabregas. All have had massive and persistant injury problems due to playing in the Premier League before they were physically ready.

Would you like to repeat that mistake?

Bear in mind Neville, Beckham and Scholes were all early 20's when they broke through not 18 year olds.

Agree2 Disagree0

Simmo they are not yet physically ready to play in the league. Beckham, Scholes and Neville were all early 20's, these lads are still teens, its not a case of talent its a case of physical ability.

Rooney at 16 was a monster but look at people like Owen, Rodwell, Vaughan, Fabregas and Wilshire who all played at 16-17 in the league and who have all suffered for it since.

They will play when ready.

Agree2 Disagree0

Simmo

Take Wellbeck and Cleverly as examples. The 1st became a first team regular last season and the latter was until he got a bad injury. But they're not 17/18 years old. They came through our academy, got experience through loans then came back good enough.

This will happen with our current batch too. Some will take a few years to be ready but I feel Powell and Tunnicliffe could be ready at the start of next season, bearing in mind their experiences from last season

I do agree that we need to buy one or two proven quality players this summer but I disagree that these 2 boys especially (plus maybe Petrucci, Lingard, the Keane's) won't make the first team proper over the next couple years

Everyone who is spitting the dummies out need to take a look at themselves. Utd have always been 1st class in the transfer market and just cause the market has changed we are not going to and I believe that is the right decision. We could do a Chelsea or city and pay stupid transfer fees and agent fees and wages but we are the bigger man and sometimes you have to say no.

I mean 6m in agent fees for a kid who is even getting the brazil Olympics starting 11 is ridiculous and we won't be held to ransom by these agents

We are utd and will always succeed on the pitch so let's stop moaning and support the team no matter what

I am sorry but we have not been anywhere near first class in the market. Our net spend of £11m a season under the Glazers is not first class.

The attitude that we will be at the top no matter what is the same as Liverpool fans in 1990. There is far too much arrogance around now, look what has happened since 1990 to an overconfident club and supporters. We are the 1990 Liverpool but have a chance to avoid what happened next , if we invest and don't just assume it will always be like the success of the last 20 years. Perhaps if we were talking about paying over the odds for a top LB or top CM then I would advocate paying the extra few million but we already have several very good wingers who can play in an advanced central position. The Sahin issue seems like a no brainer really. There was talk of him going to Arsenal on loan so I see no reason for SAF to make a similar approach. If he works out then brilliant, we can agree a fee in advance of the next window, if not he goes back. Im yet to be convinced by Moutinho if Im honest but I would be quite happy with the other 3. Izaguirre may very well be an option anyway if Everton insist on being difficult.

TK-Red

Agree0 Disagree0

Moutinho for 30m euros would be great, but not for the £33m Porto now want.

This is a post in reply to something TK-Red said about SAF ''buying for the right now''. I'm putting it in a new post as the original one was quite far down the page and I think it could start an interesting discussion! So TK-Red...if he's buying for now, why was Powell brought in? Why didn't we do whatever was necessary to get Baines? Or a top class CM? Wingers were never our problem and, while Kagawa was a fantastic signing and IMO he's going to be great at United, an attacking mid wasn't really top priority. SAFs signings so far are actually confusing the hell out of me because we haven't made moves for any players in the areas that every fan could see were the reason we didn't compete in Europe and the reason we didn't win the PL...LB and CM. If SAF was buying for now these would have been filled, or at least attempted to be filled!

Andy

Believable5 Unbelievable2

We seem to be getting linked with one winger after an other when you would of thought cm was more of a priority.
Nani was in the press today again not happy that he hasnt been offered a suitable deal.
I really think the writings on the wall and nani is off and we are trying to replace him
jred

Agree0 Disagree0

IMO he has tried to do exactly that mate. It was obvious to everyone that he was in for Modric but Spurs are asking silly money and, although I believe we have money to spend, we dont have unlimited funds so £35-40million is alot to spend on one player whereas £20million for RVP, especially in this day and age, is a fair-ish fee. I think that if any of those midfield solutions were available for £25-30million then SAF WOULD do all he could to sign them. I still believe we will sign a LB also. As for the reasons for signing Powell, he was a no brainer for £4million when you consider his potential. So basically I just believe that while the manager isnt quite as obsessed with signing for the future, he still wont pay over the odds for a player, rightly or wrongly.

TK-Red

Agree2 Disagree0

Couldn't have put it any better TK, although I think Modric wanting to move to RM as well as the horrendous valuation is another problem for the club. I just hope the manager doesn't get too disheartened by the deals falling through and his stubborn mode sets in and we do not try to sign alternatives.

Sydney!

Agree2 Disagree0

Jred, the writing has been on the wall for a long time regarding Nani mate. I like Nani, but he does frustrate Rooney and perhaps it is time for a change. Would love to see Moura arrive, but quite happy to see Muniain or Rodriguez arrive. Perhaps this Isco lad could be a wise investment. Doubt he will cost half as much as what he is being touted around at.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

Modric wasn't the only CM available from the PL though, Dembele, Moutinho and Fellaini must have caught SAFs eyes! Surely when Spurs asked for crazy money and then when Madrid got involved there could have been moves in other directions? I would quite happily pay 20/25 million for Cabaye, Moutinho or Fellaini, and IMO, that would not be paying over the odds and could be got for that price. As for Powell, perhaps my post made it sound like I didn't want him at the club, which is not what I meant. He is a fantastic signing and definitely one for the future. I just hope that the last 20 or so days of the market is spent filling the gaps, rather than marquee signings which I think unnecessary.

Andy

Agree0 Disagree0

If we dont sign a midfielder then I think its safe to assume that SAF just doesnt fancy them. Moutinho looked decent at the Euros but alot of clubs have been watching him for a few years and none of them seem to want to spend £30million on him, there must be a reason for that? Dembele I dont personally believe is good enough. Perhaps ok as a squad player but he wont improve the first 11 which is what we are looking for IMO and Fellaini seems to play his best football for Everton when played behind the striker in the Tim Cahill role, something we dont need and, I suspect, the reason that Cahill was allowed to leave this summer. None of them are likely to improve our starting 11 significantly enough. Lets not forget that we have Carrick, Scholes, Cleverley (who I believe wouldve made a difference last season if fit), Anderson, Kagawa who all play centrally so unless SAF can find someone who is truely top class like Modric then why buy for the sake of it.

TK-Red

Agree0 Disagree0

Tk, again couldn't agree more. But disagree on one thing, Dembele for under £10m would be a bargain IMO. Him and Cleverley would be a great combo. Both very energetic and the ball sticks to their feet. I think Witsel is a genuine target so perhaps a swap for Anderson could be on the cards. We will see I guess.

But agree that the manager doesn't seem to worried about the midfield at the moment. Spot on regarding Fellaini too.

anyone who says that moura is over rated hasn't a clue. The lad has bags of potential and will be top class one day. Going to paris is a mistake i feel as these money rich clubs have lots of pressure for instant success and a high turn over of managers when it isn't instant. I feel sitting on the bench wont help him as pastore, lavezzi and zlatan will be first choice. I'd rather he came to us but once again we get screwed by agents.

Some of you people irritate me so much. Yeah it looks like we've missed out on Moura but how much would you want us to spend!

He is not worth 25m 30 is pushing it, anything over 30 is really pushing it but their valuation is 45m! It's a shame cos he looks an a descent prospect but he is not worth the money asked.

It's just you fans that come out and say the same thing everytime we miss out on a target and suddenly we are not going to make the top four, that we're in decline, it's pathetic. We have an amazing bass of talent already at the club, we will make additions and we give youth a chance! Do you want to be a soulless club like Chelsea or Man City?

We will be fine, mark my words we will be back at the top next season as always.

You paid 16 mill each for Young (26) and Kagawa (23). They only had ONE year left on their contract. But yet you say that one of the hottest properties on the market, is not worth 20-25 and he's only 19?

How many of you think kagawa is good or worths the hype? He doesn't have speed and he his kind of lazy as he displayed in the valerenga match, Ajax cape town and shanghai shenhua! He his not a fast player and I doubt it if he would be able to adapt to the play of united.another problem I have is fans saying bani is not good, nano is a fantastic player with skills, speed and agility and he cannot be compared to kagawa. And Rooney is a playmaker and links up with scholes. Also another wonderful player is Anderson he is a very good defensive midfielder and he also has an attacking mind but I know most united fans think he is rubbish. Our team is a very cooperative team as the playmaker from the midfield being scholes kagawa a player behind the striker rooney as the striker or schemer and also as a middle counter player, nani as a wide winger valencia as a right back or right winger young as a penetrator and left winger Anderson as a defensive midfielder with an attacking mind vidic's come back has boosted our morale bcos he is the right captain for us jones as a good defender and attacker smalling as a good defender butbthe only problem we have is a left back evra is getting old and has serious defensive problems and has made united to concede many goals in the past season! United our team is great as we watch out for micheal keane welbeck and Jesse lingard! Pls fans reply me to tell me about ur very much needed opinions! Glory glory man united.

Believable1 Unbelievable7

Didn't no we signed two more players...can anyone tell me what Nano and Bani are like?

Andy

Agree1 Disagree0

Are you talking about Bani or Nano?

You have watched Kagawa in 3 preseason games in which he played really well in (especially considering he didn't know any of the players) and have decided he is slow and lazy? I would say he is 100% neither of them things and he is most certainly 'worth the hype'. Although not sure what this means as I think the early signing of him means he has slipped under the radar somewhat and has a lot less pressure on his shoulders than players such as Hazard.

Also, paragraphs would be better in future and leave a name.

I think if Wenger can pull all the new signings together, they're going to be tough competition. Some really good names in that team. I think it would say a lot about RVP if he stayed just because of the new signings, and it could also be trouble for Arsenal if he did. What it would prove is that he can throw a wobbly and get what he wants. The arrogance displayed by some Dutch players is well known, RVP is no different. Don't, and never have, wanted him at the club. Hope he goes to Italy and they can deal with his ego.

I am still undecided on whether or not I would be happy with this signing (if what im led to believe is true!?), my concern is to him being very injury prone and age, however it would seem that RPV is scheduled to have a medical for UTD in the next few days. The source is good friends with one of our more Snr of players who I will not name for obvious reasons.
Personally I would prefer money spent in other areas as like most on here I agree that we need A ROCK in CM who is capable of putting YaYa in their back pocket and the rest will take care of itself.

Once again looks like we've failed to bring another big name target to old trafford. We look set to miss out on moura, modric and last season it was nasri, what is going on here ? It looks unlikely that we will bring in witsel who is exactly what we need, I don't see how we were willing to cough up for hazard but for moura and witsel we arnt. Moura and witsel would complete our squad and would make us go places. We've been a team on the decline since Ronaldo left, tried to make a "big name" signing in the name of Ashley young which hasn't worked out surprise surprise. It isn't good enough we need to spend the money on top quality players if we plan on winning anything in the future. Witsel ran the game against England yet I know we won't see him on the pitch for a first game! Big signings mean big things and a bright future, you only have to look at man city last season, the money was spent so they won something says it all.

Wake up mate. It's that kind of nonchalance that will put us out of the top 4. If you think we're too good for that you're sadly mistaken - Kagawa and Powell will not be enough, mark my words.

Make no mistake - they won't blow it next season.

but forget all that because at the end of the day the standard of our football last year was not what you would expect from a team like united and to be honest the standard has been slipping for a few years now.
I really dont know whats going on at the club but last seasons transfer window was a bit of a shock i was sure we would improve key areas mainly CM.

So where do we go now and who is the next transfer target?
This is becoming rather embarassing now being linked with players who turn us down for smaller clubs who play in worse leagues.
We all know that money is the main issue with most players but come on...we are the biggest sports brand in the world, massive support on a global scale yet we are continuously looking for bargain players at knock down prices.
Don't get me wrong Kagawa looks like a good buy and i am not knocking him, Nick Powell is just a prospect with potential and could turn out to be a good player but there are no certanties.
David Gill and Fergi can sit there and bull sh*t to us all about competing for the best players but we haven't laned one since Ronaldo went to Real Madrid.

Im not saying we should of offered 36 million. I wouldn't have even gone for him in the first place.
We needed to strenthen in other areas. And by they way nobody on this site knows what was offered on the Moura deal, we are all guessing. Only Gill and Fergie know the proper story.
Nobody on this site can defend what's happened over the past 3-4 seasons.
The fact is we are linked with these players and have not signed one of them for one reason or another.
Aven Arsenal are spending money now and it looks as though Van Persie may stay. On Van Persie why the hell are we even looking at buying the guy. 20 million on a 29 year old crock who has had one good season. Complete waste of money.
This bull sh*t excuse about no value in the market is laughable, there are lots of players out there to buy.
If nobody else comes in we can look forward to watching fat arse Anderson roam about doiong nothing for 10 games because after that he'll get injured and will be out for the season.
Ryan giggs will continuously give the ball away all season as he did last season.
Fletcher we don't even know if he will come back and if he does im pretty sure he won't be anything like he was.
Cleverley has got this big reputation and hasn't proven anything yet due to injury so the jury is still out on him.
Paul Scholes will be asked to play another 30-35 game season at the ripe old age of 38 / 39 years of age.
Lets be honest, even though we hung in there and very nearly won the premiership the football we played all season was sh*te and it was even worst in Europe.
We all know the team needs major improvements and anybody who says we don't is looking at it through red blinkers.

GDS

Agree2 Disagree2

I've seen this argument come about a lot recently, that of the link between ticket sales and transfers. Surely more people are less likely to buy tickets if we're losing on a weekly basis than if we don't sign a big name. I think it's silly to be basically saying that the club use rumors/speculation of transfers to boost sales. Sales will go up if we're winning matches and trophies, and yes transfers has a bit to do with that of course, but it's not the sole drive behind ticket sales.

Andy

Agree0 Disagree0

HERBIE,

The only problem with your plan is that 'football has moved on' actually means Chelsea, City and PSG have endless amounts of money. We do not have that.

Your method of running the club and paying massive amounts for players would have us bankrupt and end up in a total mess, which is surely what a lot of Glazer haters are worried about.

We are not the only club that can't compete with them 3 clubs, in fact no other club can. We just seem to think we have the right to be able to spend ridiculous amounts without the backing of someone who will give us endless cash.

I'm not against signing a potential world class player but for me it's not needed at this time but if nani was to leave then I'd happily spend that on moura or someone else but only after the problem areas have been sorted out.

Also these posts about rafael not being good enough I have to disagree Hes young very talented and at this moment is one of Brazil's best players at the olympics.

Left back is a cause for concern definitely but like a lot of people on here have said buying someone go isn't going to derail the progress of fabio and blackett is difficult to find Baines would be good but not at the price everton want so for one season I wouldnt be disappointed if we stuck with Evra and had Evans as back up along with youngsters for the capital one cup.

Okay lads, let's get our thoughts under control and not let the media go crazy with our minds.

Lucas Moura, I am getting sick of praying for this guys name to appear on the Manutd.com site confirming his signing. Everyday, it's a new story, everyday, it's a new team. Therefore, there are two solutions, 1. He will not leave. 2. He will join the club offering the most money.
His value was for the most point around £18-23 at a REASONABLE price. Sao Paulo are not being reasonable. They want around £30-40 and for an unproven player like Moura, it's not gonna happen for a team like Manchester United, who don't do what Chelsea and Man s***ty do, and especially whilst Sir Alex Ferguson is our manager. The most believable piece of news is the 6million add-on to any deal which would pay for family relocation and agent fees. As he is only 19. This occurred with the Hazard deal in agent fees and with Nasri. Ferguson came out and said that THIS WAS WHAT SHUNNED any deal. So, fellow fans, Moura WILL NOT BE COMING. So, quickly, get over it.

Other targets.
Van Persie is looking more and more likely by the day. What that will mean for Welbeck, Chicharito and in terms of loans/selling Macheda, is in Ferguson's hands. It's a big season for all three, as I think one will have to move on.

Isco, Eriksen, Sahin, Moutinho, Witsel, Oviedo: Isco is an unconfirmed target but a very possible one that could be done very quickly but may have the same effect of Moura with his acceptable price skyrocketing. Eriksen, is a MUST BUY why Ferguson doesn't see that is beyond us all, I would of thought if he wanted him, he would have bought him earlier in the window. The latest on Sahin is that he is set to stay at Madrid unless a big offer comes in. Bad for Arsenal, potentially good for us, as he would be just as good as buying Eriksen. Moutinho, he doesn't look likely to leave unless a large offer comes in, which we probably wont stump up. Witsel, a very good option, could be a quality signing, but the problem is Benfica, they wont want to lose a player like that without being seriously thanked. Oviedo's agent has come out and said that clubs are tabling offers for the player, and he has in the past said he would love to come to united.

Gaitan and Wanayama:
No-one really cares about Gaitan and his name is slipped away, to only be championed if a single press story mentions his name in contention with us. Wanayama is a no-go in my opinion. Not many of us will have ever seen him play, and he is still young, but plays in the Scottish League, very few excel in that leage.

Thanks if you got this far,

Should Van Persie be signed ,i would think that Macheda will again go on a season long loan,Chicarito will be used mainly as a sub and Wellbeck could be used in wide positions as well as up front. The signing of RVP would give the manager great options both through the middle and in the wide positions and he would be able to utilise his subs by bringing on game changing players late on in games when the opposition is tiring, an option that was missing last season.

Isco's price won't sky rocket. Malaga are having money problems. As long as we act quickly there will be no chance of a bidding war as Malaga will have to accept our offer as long as it is a decent fee.

As for the future or Welbeck and Chicharito. If we sign no winger then I can see Welbeck getting a lot of games on the left hand side with Chicharito primarily being an impact player from the bench.

Psg reported bid of 45 million euros is just over 35 million pounds but i think that's to buy the player flat out no add on's no nothin so our package could be a better deal depending Wat it is and all the stuff about Manchester is boring this lad should spend an hour in Paris get his prioritys straight alot of paper talk an BS even if we don't get Moura or RVP we will bring in someone so chill let it happen........ Plus I actually think we will get RVP no source just opinion

Manchester is boring mate - in comparison to Paris, Rio de Janeiro, Barca, Madrid, Rome, Milan, Berlin, do I need to go on?

We live in a very unattractive country in more ways than one; a Latin-American footballer will likely go to a country that more resembles what he's used to.

Just seen that liverpool's shirt sponsor's shares are tumbling in price after they were accused of illegally holding $250 billion in Iran. Nice choice of sponsor guys!

Not a rumour but I am sure all you other reds would join me in wishing Darren Fletcher a speedy return to fitness. Great news that he is in training with the Scotland squad

Hi guys,

Does anyone have any more information regarding theis story this morning that Fletcher's back in training with Scotland?

If true, this may alleviate the need for a central midfielder (for now). Suddenly the big money for Moura or RVP makes more sense.

Thorne {Ed002's Note - I think he is with the squad but I really don't think there is any chance of him playing. It'll be a slow comeback.}

Not a rumour more a statement - why the hell are we signing a 29 year old for 20 odd million? surely that money could be invested better than that! Im surprised SAF would do this!

Believable1 Unbelievable1

Mauroune Fellaini 25million

Perfect.

Its fairly simple. SAF has a couple of years left at the most, this season may even be his last, and he wants to go out by having a good crack at every competition we play in so instead of buying for the future he is, for once, buying for the right now. RVP may have had injury problems but, fitness aside, he is the best striker in the world at present so £20million may be seen as a fair price especially as he could easily play at the highest level for another 4-5 years. Lets not forget Zidane went to Madrid at 29 for £45million. If we sign RVP then I for one will be delighted.

have we pulled out of the moura deal? or was it yet again more B.S to appease the fans, chase the big names then pull out for what ever reason the papers come up with, its getting a bit boring now, how long will we be treated like persons!! there will be no 30m signing, no rvp, no moura, are bizz is done with a few mill spent again. why are we hanging on to dead weight also, get rid of these players who are gonna be great, ie anderson, how many seasons does he need to shine>?

Believable3 Unbelievable0

Hope your right, why blow such vast sums of money on players just for the sake of it.We have been down this route before , with Veron & Berbatov, when there was really no need to sign either and now we are talking £30 million for a 19 yr old olympic reserve and £20 million for a 29yr old injury plagued striker, however i could see the purchase of RVP winning us the league during the next 3 yrs. I feel that lots of fans these days are far more interested in the amount of money we spend rather than the real action which takes place on the field and that a £30 million spend on a player is seen as a triumph , where as i would consider the ultimate triumph 11 players running out to collect the premier league title who haven't cost a bean.( we can but dream )

Clev, Anderson, Scholes, Carrick, Giggs, Fletcher, Petrucci, and I will throw in Tunnicliffe. Do you think any of the above CMer's would scare any of our opponents?
Newcastle's CM bought cheaply the year before and outplayed our CM. Many other affordable CMs that were faced last season by the red devils outplayed us.
Many around here wants to blame the Glazers for the teams woes, but it wasn't them that bought Young, bebe, Anderson , Hargreaves.
Now, we are focusing on Moura and RVP?
What?
What we need to do is buy the scouts of Newcastle and /or Dortmund as they know how to find players that are affordable.
Yaya is going to boss the midfield again if we do not re enforce the middle.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

Most on this site have known for 2-3 years our central midfield is lacking quality. I don't think our situation in central midfield is as bad as last summer where Scholes was gone and we were relying on Cleverley and Anderson to produce, which they did until Cleverley was injured. carrick also had his best season for out of the last 3 seasons last year which helped, as did bringing Scholes back. However, it is an area which undoubtedly needs looked at despite the potential of the young ones coming through. However, it doesn't seem to be an area which Fergie is concerned with so IMO we won't be signing a new CM'r.

If we do end up signing RVP and Moura I won't complain because we will have signed a world class forward who will hopefully stay fit and a player who is potentially a world beater. All in all it would be a pretty mixed transfer window for us. We will have signed 2 potentially fantastic players in Powell and Moura as well as 2 top class attacking players in RVP and Kagawa but still we won't have addressed the CM and LB positions.

IMO it looks like we are going to try and outscore teams this season. Lining up with plenty of attack minded players and relying on players like Scholes and Carrick to break up attacks.

We may have more flair going forward with Kagawa, and with Vidic back, we're gonna concede a few less......

But without touching our CM, we'll be trophyless again. We're exceptionally lightweight in there and even average teams had a field day against us last season in that area.

RED_SKY

Agree2 Disagree0

I actually forgot about how big a plus having Vidic back will be. I think even with the squad we currently have we have a great shout of winning the league but the CL is out of the question.

I'd rather we focused our efforts in the transfer market on a top class CM but just doubt it's happening. In reality we could take the money from the RVP and Moura deals and offer Bilbao daft money for Martinez which they couldn't refuse and then sign Henriquez and I think most United fans would be happy but looks like Moura and RVP are most likely.

Let's knock this Moura debacle on the head he obviously doesn't have red devil blood in his veins.
He may have great potential but if his desire to wear the shirt is less than his monetary ambitions forget it.
I know we have been linked with an abundance of talent, but several have shown a great desire to come to OT, surely these are the guys we need to be looking to sign.

Most people think that we will sign both Lucas Moura and Van Persie.

But if you remember what Sir Alex said he said we will sign 1 maybe 2 players and he said we will sign a Left Back so thats 1 spot taken.

The other imo is Lucas Moura or Van Persie not both.
I'd prefer Lucas Moura but thats me tell me which 1 you would prefer?

everyones talking about how much psg .chelsea.etc etc are spending to me it does not matter. because how much will they be able to spend when the new financial fair play rule is activated which from what i can understand is based on what your respective club profits are not what your owners personal fortune is.correct me if im wrong but i cant see psg chelsea man city etc etc spending a great deal in the future. as they are not big profit clubs so any future talent out there are more likely to go to clubs who can afford them when this all kicks in food for thought i say??

Guys.. We shouldn't get carried away with Moura just because he looks good on the net .. Obertan looked amazing on net too and look what happened .. Watching Lucas in Olympics , he doesn't seem amazing .. Same league as nani but at least nani is proven in epl.. Psg could be doing us a favour .. Turning to RVP I agree , he will sign for us , I have no doubts .. And we will add a midfielder to complete the spending !
