Looking like we will announce, darmian, otamendi, schneiderlin and poss one more by end of the week! I have a suspicion it is schweinstieger but not gauranteed!!! That woukd be some great business on our behalf if we do, hopefully get a striker in aswell, good summer business for me

Believable0 Unbelievable3

Do u think schweinsteiger would swap the confort of bayern who are guaranteed the bundesliga every season to a more competive league as in the premiership i myself think he will see out his contract and head to the usa next season for one final hurrah and earn the dollar

Agree3 Disagree0

08 Jul 2015 06:10:23
He can earn the dollar here at ManUtd and apart from greedy players like Gyan, most would like to play in a competitive league until they can. Schweinsteiger could come to us because he would know he would a regular starter for us.
Muller rumors seem unlikely to me as he is one of germany's best striker and prospect.

No chance, of announcing 3 or 4 players by the end of the week!

Come this stage next year, everybody will be very pleased with Darmian, let me say that. Fully expected him to go to Juventus at some point, but obviously they have more pressing matters a la Vidal/Pogba/Tevez/Pirlo. Should we sign Darmian, and at the price that we supposedly are, then let me tell you we will have one of the signings of the season. Wait and watch, you'll be pretty surprised.

Believable3 Unbelievable1

08 Jul 2015 08:34:53
Very similar to Azpi from what I've seen, I'm delighted.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Jul 2015 09:50:42
How can you be delighted, he hasn't been signed yet?

Agree1 Disagree1

08 Jul 2015 16:49:35
I'm saying from what I've seen of him play I'm delighted at what I've seen, what are you getting at? Not sure if you're trying to be funny or clever.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Jul 2015 22:37:03
Obviously very hard to say as not all signings are in yet, not by a long shot but is anyone feeling confident enough to stick their neck out today and say we will finish 1st or 2nd next year?

07 Jul 2015 23:20:45
Yes, we're Manchester United.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Jul 2015 23:23:25
With Europe (more games)
Arsenal strengthening a major area already (Cech)
Man City allowed to spend big
Chelsea already solid
Liverpool strengthening well imo
Our players looking very unfit last season with so few games
5-6 players coming in learning methods and existing ones adapting
The Rooney conundrum if we do buy a first choice striker
Pre-Season started and we haven't done much needed business
DDG probably going

My heart says "so what we are Man Utd", but my head says that with LVG - lucky to finish 4th and maybe even qualify for the CL proper because of how close it is time wise.

I suppose I can only be pleasantly surprised, it makes me sick it has come to that.

08 Jul 2015 06:13:45
I think we will improve on last season whether we win the league or not you can't really tell as we still don't know how the teams above us will strengthen.
I think we will win something and do well in the UCL

08 Jul 2015 09:27:18
Dwill,

So if we play like we did last season (when we finished 4th) we will finish 7th. Did you read that back and think it made any sense or just being negative for the sake of it?

Agree2 Disagree3

08 Jul 2015 10:24:48
gds i m not negative at all we where lucky to finished 4th last season do u think u want to ride on it . we struggled against so many teams telle do you ever felt we can win this match even against bottom table teams it was always like scraping a win . i do agree we played well in patches but tats not going to win tittles keep position without any movement and side passing will not win the tittle . LVG want us to keep position and make other team tired i m sorry but the realitly most of bottom team sit back wait and counter if u don't move the ball fast sorry to say its supporters who getting tired of this . but has i said before i will judge Lvg if we have solid back 4 who can stay fit .

Just seen on the European pages Utd have shown recent interest in Mitrovic. Anybody know much about him?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

07 Jul 2015 21:51:03
20 years old, 27 goals in 50 games, including 2 goals in 5 in champs league. He is an out and out 9, great first touch, great in the air, does have pretty good technical ability to create for himself. There is a touch of Shearer about the lad. He got 19 goals in 45 games in 13/14 so has done the business over a couple of seasons. I think he would be great for us and certainly a star for the future who is delivering the goods now.

I would love to see Lacazette here too but I may be being greedy!

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Jul 2015 01:28:06
I think with all the strikers leaving that he would get a fair amount of game time behind Rooney and this would be a good move for him and the club. In youth football he averaged well over 0.5 goals per game and he's brought that into top flight football. He's strong so I see no reason he can't step up and continue his excellent scoring rate.

He also fits what Rooney suggested LVG wants his striker to do.

Just want to add my two pennies worth on the darmian debate
I watch a lot if italian football and have been slightly obsessed with it since the gazetta show on channel 4 when ince and gazza played out there
Anyway darmian is very much an italian gary neville, not the best technically but very hard working and knows football and his position inparticular inside out. Very good positional sense and always willing to add to an attack.
Hes never really stood out playing for torino but never for a bad reason either. he's the type of player that would perform equally whether it be torino mid table or juventus top of the table. He will fit straight in at united ifsigned and be a 7/8 out of ten every game.
Neville went down as probably the prems best ever right back but would anybody have noticed him if he played for villa for example. don't be fooled by the club were signing darmian from, I think he'll turn out to be a very good buy

So I have read your reasons for Fergie getting rid of Pogba and not one of them is anywhere near the truth. I have to be very careful how much I reveal but I will say the word Watch and those in the know will know what I am talking about and I am sure it will come out one day. It makes it impossible for him ever to return to United whilst Fergie has any kind of power at the club.

Believable4 Unbelievable1

07 Jul 2015 19:08:05
Completely agree with you on that 1 beast, he was supposed to be a star.

The wind-up merchant in me really wanted to reply to this post with either ADM or Rooney, but I think we've all had enough excitement for one day.

Agree3 Disagree0

07 Jul 2015 19:22:54

07 Jul 2015 19:25:13
Bostock done a good job

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Jul 2015 19:32:34
I feel quite sorry for Adu. He was good but never great and his reputation was blown way out of proportion.

He came to prominence just when social media and football in the States was getting serious and he was billed as the next Pele. How wrong they were!

The player I always remember is Denilson. A big transfer to Betis but never did anything. Closer to home, I think Lee Sharp takes the prize for not fulfilling their potential.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Jul 2015 19:34:30
Not to his level no, has to be the biggest let down in my living memory. English wise there was Michael Johnson from City and good ol' Francis Jeffers but not a patch on Adu sadly. Kleberson and Eric Djemba Djemba wasn't so far behind for us though!

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Jul 2015 19:46:08
Yeah too much too young well over hyped.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Jul 2015 20:56:37
Yeah Brendan, Rooney, he was this really exciting teenager for everton and then we bought him and he's gone downhill ever since,

I think he will go down in history as being the worst record goal scorer captain for club and country that professional football has ever seen.

Agree0 Disagree2

07 Jul 2015 21:32:33
I remember there being quite a lot of hype about Jody Morris at the time. Also how can we forget Macheda I really thought he would of been something special when he buried that strike against Villa that day

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Jul 2015 18:41:54
The ironic thing is, if we'd of spent £40 million on darmain, the same people would be saying he's going to be ace. It's the low fee that's the reason people are skating him.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

07 Jul 2015 18:54:14
I am yet to read one Utd fan slate him!

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Jul 2015 19:04:51
Spot on pal. Sadly a 12 million pound right back doesn't get juices going. I don't know much about about him but he's a Italian international. They're good at churning out defenders and for 12 mill you can't go wrong. Fans want a "race" to sign someone and to "beat rivals" to a signature. The 24/7 news has made it so you can't enjoy a signing. Everyone wants to sign a new team every window and with computer games there's no hiding the best 15 year old in Timbuktu. The only thing that gets fans going more than a hefty fee is a deadline day signing. We're a professional outfit with scouts and coaches and due diligence to take care of.
Keep calm and they will come!

Agree3 Disagree0

07 Jul 2015 20:41:28
Ive not seen too much of him play but I have read many 'neutral ' reports today and the reports bode well, from an early age he has been thought the art of defending and he is a highly regarded Italian international so I don't doubt his credentials to become a Manchester united player. I see and read a lot of comments on what's holding up the schneiderlin deal, whilst many on here are slating everybody at the club from Woodward to lvg and sally the tealady not one negative comment has come from Morgan or his representatives so that tells me they are secure in what's happening, therefore there should be no panic or toys coming out of the prams from some of our more impatient posters
I'm looking forward to revising the ins and outs competition, only a couple had darmain in, a lot got burnt on cline & firminio.

Without trying to go over old ground, I would like to know peoples thoughts on what is happening with Schneiderlin? We are obviously interested because we put a bid in for the guy, but that was two weeks ago.
I honestly think that we are dragging our heels because of the price. For what ever reason, we don't want to go above 25 million for him. There could also be a possibility that he isn't our first choice and maybe we are waiting on someone else to become available? Either way, I feel very frustrated because the guy is perfect for us. It seems like a no brainer to me.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed004's Note - this is just speculative, but what if we are all underestimating the amount Southampton want for Schneiderlin. They just got 30 million for a left back and 25 for Lallana who isn't as important a player as Schneiderlin. It could be that they're asking for 30 million +. If that was the case I'd be looming at the likes of Nainggolan, Verratti, Carvalho as alternatives. However, I think it is only a matter of time before we sign him}

07 Jul 2015 18:55:11
I hope so, Ed.

It does seem that their valuation of him exceeds what we think he is worth.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed004's Note - Also realistically who are we competing against for him? He wants champions league football and PSG and Arsenal currently are not interested in him. We would outbid Spurs on wages comfortably. I would hope we are more appealing than the likes of Monaco and Lyon}

07 Jul 2015 19:38:53
I agree Ed, we don't have any serious competition for him, hence why, it would seem, we are not in a hurry to meet Southampton's demands.

Agree1 Disagree0

07 Jul 2015 17:58:51
Right so I've decided to do a stat comparison of Darmian, Coleman, Clyne and Valencia to give some substance to the debate down the page. Just a disclaimer that stats aren't everything but I've looked at every stat that's appropriate, so here it is:
Passing:
If we look at the total number of passes and pass completion, Valencia is superior in every stat, however that is expected due to the possession united tend to have.
Moving on to key passes, chances created and assists, Darmian is by far the best apart from assists, where he is a close 3rd to valencia and coleman.
Darmian also has the highest average pass length, which suggests he is a bit more adventurous with his passing.

Tackles/Duels:
Tackles won and lost are very close between Darmian, Clyne and Valencia, with coleman lagging behind in tackles won, however he loses the ball less often.
Clyne comes out on top more often with take ons, with Darmian quite far off the others, however he is by far the best in the air winning much more aerial duels.

Defensive stats:
Valencia made the most interceptions, whereas coleman made the most blocks and clearances, with Darmian fairly average in all.
however Darmian made the least defensive errors.
Also worth a mention that Darmian has the best discipline out of the 4.

So to sum up, I believe that Darmian will without doubt be more of a threat than Valencia, and is probably better going forward than Clyne and Coleman too. Defensively, it looks like Darmian is solid, he didn't make as many clearances/blocks/interceptions, but this can be a misleading stat as it has a lot of exterior factors affecting it, such as your teammates. The fact that he has made next to no defensive errors is encouraging. He will also add more threat in the box with his height, as well as more protection from crosses and set pieces.
Also note that he is around the same price as Clyne, and probably half the price Coleman would cost.
Also Darmian can play at both right back and left back, as well as on the wings.

Does anybody know which players from the academy will be taken on tour? Obviously there are the players like McNair and pereira who will go but I've heard Callum gribbins mentioned. Also is there any chance players like fosu mensah or tuanzebe could go? Last question has demetri Mitchell taken any more steps toward under 21s as I heard he was looking really good last season. Any info from posters would be great and obviously the eds info would be brilliant and much appreciated. Thanks guys

Everyone !
Please type Darmian in the search query and see for the old posts (app. 2-3 months ago) . It is strange that many many posters wanted him and he was very very good RB. Now half of the posters have different opinion. Strange.

I haven't watched Darmian so no opinion from my side

Believable1 Unbelievable0

07 Jul 2015 18:18:11
I was thinking this, lots of people saying why aren't we in for him, he's going to be great etc. now it's quite negative. Dunno if he will join or not but he's got to be better than Valencia and must be seen as good or better than clyne. If he joins I imagine that Coleman was just way too expensive and a hassle to negotiate for. Let's see if he signs first.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Jul 2015 18:41:35

I don't want to slate darmian before he's played for us. I haven't seen that much of him but what I have I can't say he's head and shoulders better than Rafael even if I'm a little bias as I rate Rafael. I can't believe that Darmian was a first choice for right back but maybe I'm wrong. Italians have been hit and miss in the premier league. The last one we signed didn't pull up any tree's. Taibi.lol. The premier league is a different pace to the italian league and personallly I think clyne or Coleman would've been better as no settling to the league needed. As I keep saying lvg knows what he's doing. I think.

Believable3 Unbelievable1

07 Jul 2015 17:46:31
If his statistics in the last few seasons are anything to go by, at least he'll be on the pitch rather than the treatment table, which already puts him head and shoulders above Rafael .

With us letting go some homegrown players cleverley, potentially Rafael and Evans. Can you see united going in for some homegrown players to make up the difference e.g. Kane. Or will there be players stepping up from the under 21s.

Opinions?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

07 Jul 2015 15:59:45
I think Schneiderlin would count as homegrown if we got him

Agree2 Disagree0

07 Jul 2015 16:00:18
Isnt there a different criteria for homegrown players being trained at your club for a number of years and homegrown players being trained at another club for a number of years?

So if we signed kane it would neccesarily compensate losing rafael or evans in terms of the homegrown quota

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Jul 2015 16:15:37
Hopefully we will see a couple from the under 21's step up this season. Even if it isn't to replace the above mentioned players. Is expect to see a bit more of McNair and Periera this season with Blackett also. Hopefully Wilson will get plenty of game time out on loan or stay here and get game time.

In terms of homegrown players to sign, who's available and who would you want? Schneiderlin is classed as homegrown I think, don't know if someone is able to confirm this?

Can't think of too many homegrown players we've been linked with other than Kane. I'd still have Benzema in front of him though. Maybe James McCarthy as a second CM after Schneiderlin or if we are buying a second CB after Ramos or Otamendi I'd throw some money at Everton for Stones because he looks like a great player in the making.

First of all I must admit I am a spurs fan not a united fan, but because the spurs page on this site is so boring and I often come to your page for bit of entertainment. Makes me laugh that people on here are stressing that you don't seem to be signing many players. In my opinion you have done the best bit of business of anyone securing Depay, the boy is a future world player of the year and a very good player now, Darmain is a very good player and will do a great job for you. All the ramos talk is nonsence. he is obviously going to stay and get a new contract by using your name, many have done it. Ronaldo does it every year. I think you should of offered big money to Hummels when he was deciding his future, offered the same as your willing to offer ramos because in my opinion Hummels is best defender around.

To those slating our potential new right back, "He featured in the Serie A Team of the Year 2014" & "In early 2015 he was awarded with the Pallone Azzurro as the best player of the national team for 2014".

Now I know the Italian league and international team aren't the forces of old, but it would suggest, for a 24 year old playing for a smaller Serie A team, he's pretty decent.

Like myself, I'm guessing none of you have seen that much of him. His name has never been mentioned on here until recently, so I'm guessing only the geeks like Shappy and Jose would have heard of him :)

Let's maybe give him the benefit of the doubt, until he actually plays a few games for us, eh? Then you can rip him to bits.

I bet the lad would really feel lifted by the 'support' he's getting from some of the posters on this site. If this indifference is reflected in the 76,000 at OT then he's doomed before he's even kicked a ball.

Noucamp . good post but you say we should 'maybe' give him the benefit of the doubt, we should definitely give him the benefit of the doubt. Nothing shameful about get behind your players and team.

Agree3 Disagree0

07 Jul 2015 16:40:33
I must have missed all these posts slagging him off?

What do people expect, everyone to be jumping for joy because we may have signed a right back that most of us have seen play less than 5 times?

It's come a bit out of nowhere so I hardly think being a little dubious/cautious is unreasonable, especially when we have Rafael being shipped out for this guy. People are rightly asking "who is this guy and is he Utd quality?".

Good luck to him and I'll keep my eye out for all those fans crucifying him before a ball is kicked!

07 Jul 2015 17:24:05
Beast, this is poor by your usual standards, mate. Maybe we've been reading different banter sites. I didn't realise every player we sign had to be a 'worldie' to get you's and other's acceptance.

I don't know a lot about the guy bit let's give him.a chance. Aa for Rafael yes he's a likeable guy and he had great season two years ago but he's just too injury prone

Agree1 Disagree0

07 Jul 2015 18:23:56
Regardless of how often we have seen him I'm sure he has been extensively scouted, he is a main stay for a nation that has a record of making wonderful defenders and he will cost under £ 13mil I cannot see a downside here! And as far as we know he could well be number 1 target for that position, we know absolutely nothing about what's going on behind the scenes or who our top targets are.

Agree2 Disagree0

07 Jul 2015 18:43:37
Noucamp - Don't get me wrong here mate, I just don't see people slating him that much. I like the sound of this Darmian to be honest having read all the posts, but I think some people are expecting us to be cheering from the rooftops otherwise it's being negative.

I think LVG will do much better with lesser known players as it happens, because they don't have such an ego and he can turn them into the robots he needs. Look at what he did with Valencia, Young and Fellaini. So I'm all up for buying these "below the radar" players, but they don't get the typical Utd fan excited and fair enough.

He has my 100% support, like 99.9% of our fans would give him imo.

07 Jul 2015 15:03:18
To the people saying Darmian is not good enough as a choice, who were Vidic, Zableta and Ivanovic when they came to the league? Amazing how everyone seems happy with darmain, when Woodward and Co said they had an a list, b list and then probably a c list it's become clear for the rb position they needed to go to the d list!!! Darmain, noone ever heard of him and clearly we were scared of attempting to prize Coleman away and fail like we did with baines. Coleman wasn't 'flavour of the month' as some people think. He was one of the best right backs in the league for the last 2 or more seasons. Proven PL quality

07 Jul 2015 14:37:52
Pep,

Any maybe we were met with a 'not for sale'. Then what do you do? Go to the next on the list, I can't say I know much about Darmain but what I do know is that he will have been scouted by United scouts and they have seen something in him. Just because you don't know him doesn't mean he isn't good, or are you pig headed enough to think you know every good player in the world?

From what I have read he is somewhat of a fan favourite over there, hard worker, rarely makes mistakes, very good defensively and a great engine going forward, decent price tag for a full back allowing us to spend money in other areas and I do love a signing out of nowhere like a Solskjaer or a Vidic, some of our best players are players like that, so maybe wait to see him play before you complain??

Agree9 Disagree1

07 Jul 2015 14:39:05
You are one negative guy an just make up stuff. Do you have such a list and where do you get the idea that he was option D. One thing Italy does better than anyone else is producing world class defenders year after year so don't get the rant.

Agree6 Disagree1

07 Jul 2015 14:42:47
I think "people being happy with darmian" are just the majority of people willing to give him a chance because they haven't seen enough of him to say definitively if he's a good or bad signing

Its pretty harsh to rate him as a "d list" signing or not of "united quality" without even letting him put on the jersey lol

How many of our best signings have been players that weren't well renowned such as solsjkaer, vidic, park

Agree5 Disagree0

07 Jul 2015 14:47:15
I don't know if he's coming to United or not but that is a bit too negative. As reports suggest Bayern were also in for him and if he signs for them then you would come out and say he might have been a good player but if we sign him then he was on the d list.

Agree5 Disagree0

07 Jul 2015 14:49:26
I tend to agree Pep. We looked at Alves (a player who has won every prize at the top level), but he signed a new contract at Barca. Then we looked at Coleman (one of the best right backs in the league), but Everton wanted a lot of money. So we turned our attention to Darmain, a star at a mid-table Italian club.

From what I've seen he's a decent player. But is he better than Clyne, let alone Coleman? I don't think so. We need a consistent rb to add stability. Instead we have worked our way down to a player who will take time to adapt to the EPL, and even then may struggle. What I've read about Darmain's strengths is that he is physically strong, quick and has a very good engine. His failings are that he is often positionally suspect and lacks a consistent final ball. Remind you of anyone?

Agree1 Disagree3

07 Jul 2015 14:50:23
First choice for Italy, versatile, good age and a good price. He has had interest from other top clubs like bayern, I think it will be a great signing if it happens. Just because you haven't heard of him doesn't mean he's not any good, give the lad a chance he hasn't even signed yet.

Agree5 Disagree1

07 Jul 2015 14:58:48
Just the response I was waiting for! If I'm negative overall compared to some posters then my word we are a negative bunch. Everytime I've tried to be positive I get grief for being naieve. Remember I'm the poster who wanted to think that players sign because we are manchester united, not for money! Is that not positive? Anyway end of the day well for being positive about him but I think standards are dropping here, simple as!

Agree0 Disagree3

07 Jul 2015 15:06:48
Clyne was seen as too short. Darmian has height and can defend corners and freekicks well.

I don't know much about this guy, but as others have said we have been fortunate in the past with unfamiliar names. Although Vidic, Evra and Solskjaer was a heck of a long time ago, the list of unfamiliar names that turned out to be flops is 20 X longer in recent years! And familiar names for that matter.

I'll give everyone a chance, but if he is coming this cheap and has flown under the radar in this social and rubbish media led world I am optimistically cautious.

If I had to put money on it I would say Rafael (HG player) will be the one talked about more than Darmian in 3 years time, but hopefully not.

Pepgiggs have u actually watched the player?, because what u have posted further down the page seems u haven't n it seems u r just pissed that we have signed some one u did not know much about, which means he is mediocre according to u.

Danny funny choice of words there " star at a midtable club " i don't recall coleman beong any different from that, i agree with your assesment of the player with a few differences that i don't think he is positionally suspect as u put it, yes he makes a few mistakes but then which defender doesn't, i agree with u about he being more defensive than an attacking fb but i would go as far as saying that he is better at defending than clyne an to an extent even coleman, attacking wise he below clyne and well below coleman.
If given a choice i would go for coleman over darmian but do u think that 30mn or so everton would want for coleman is fair price bcz at that price i would say is way overrated to be any where near 30mn.

We must remember that he first choice for italy, if u r first choice for a team like italy u must be doing something good

We haven't even signed him yet and the bashing has already begun. Its quite embarrassing actually. I haven't seen much of Darmian apart from his excellent performance against England at the World Cup. He is first choice for Italy and generally Italian defenders seem to be very good. He is tall and has pace which will definitely help him in the EPL.

As for us "working down the list" what do you expect us to do? Alves clearly was looking for a new contract which he got and had little interest in moving to us. Ed002 has repeatedly told us that Coleman is our preferred target but is "not for sale" and there is little you can do about that. Coleman is also suspect defensively. Clyne is decent but I won't shed any tears over not signing him and I have read reports that Van Gaal decided against going for him and his first choice was indeed United ahead of Liverpool.

If we do sign Darmian, how about we give him a chance, support him, see how he does and then make a judgement? I seem to remember us signing a certain Nemanja Vidic who wasn't an "A list" defender by any means and he did just fine. Same with Evra.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Jul 2015 16:12:39
The difference between Coleman and Darmain, moyes, is that Coleman is a proven EPL defender. Darmain may prove a great signing, but is completely untested in the EPL, and the one thing we need defensively next season is some stability.

Next season we will most likely have a new keeper, a new cb and a new rb. It's pretty much assured that our new cb will be new to EPL, and now our it appears that our rb will be too. That means that we will have two defenders trying to adjust to the league and LVG (who is hardly the easiest guy to play for). I worry about our defence when they'll have to spend the first few months trying to develop an understanding.

As for the height thing. Alves is smaller than Clyne and it wasn't an issue, and Coleman is only an inch bigger (he he he). But seriously, it does look like he was third on our list, and he is a dangerous gamble when we need defenders who can hit the ground running.

Here are three reasons why Darmian would be the perfect full back for the Old Trafford outfit:
Young player with loads of potential: A product of the famed AC Milan youth system, the boy from Legnano has immense pedigree to be one of the best in the world. He debuted at 16 but was soon shipped out to Padova on loan. His rise to fame was amplified by quick moves to Palermo and then Torino in 2011 and in the 2014 World Cup grabbed the attention playing against England in the group stages.
Darmian excelled under former Torino manager Giampiero who preferred a 3-5-2 setup. The youngster was always the one who would perform his defensive and attacking duties with great aplomb. His dynamism on the ball and great vision are traits unheard of a right back and his passing pin point passing abilities will be a great bonus.
Darmian will be worth every penny: Darmian has already attracted the likes of Bayern Munich, Barcelona but along with United, its Serie A side Napoli who are pressing hard to acquire his services. The Partneopei have already offered cash worth €7m along with a couple of players including Jorginho and Duvan Zapata for the full back.
New manager Maurizio Sarri is well known in Italy who prioritizes a defensive discipline over attacks and Darmian would be a perfect in either of his preferred 4-3-1-2 and 4-2-3-1 formations. United however can lure the player offering Champions League football but will need to act first before others vulture over for the 25 year old.
Right player at the right club: Darmian is one of the most intelligent full backs across Europe possessing an incredible work rate and game reading abilities. Louis Van Gaal has always been known to give youngsters a chance and Darmian would flourish under the Dutch legend should he a make a move to the lucrative Premier League. Any team who acquires Darmian's signature will be getting a player who is also a brilliant tackler and one whose consistency defines his incredible ability to make a quick transition from defense to attack.
Van Gaal put the cash on the table and you could help yourself to a future Phillip Lahm

Darmian has a very good appearance record with consistently having 30+ appearances in SErie A in the last 4 seasons. This is a very important attribute given our fitness struggles last year.

Well Koeman's comments suggest that the Schneiderlin transfer is inevitable. He will be an excellent buy and I think £27 million would be a great price for a player at the right age who could have an impact for many years.

It also looks like Darmian will be the right back coming in, Napoli have pulled out the race so we have a clear run if we want him.

That will just leave us needing a centre back for all our problem areas to be solved.

At the start of the window we all recognised that a new winger, central midfielder, right back and centre back were needed. And it looks as though Memphis, Schneiderlin, Darmian and Otamendi/Ramos will fulfill those roles. I think we then spend the rest of the summer probably chasing someone like Muller.

Another point is about DDG. With Porto going in for Casillas I suspect that means DDG will definitley go. But apparently Valdes has turned down a switch to Valencia - is he going to be our number 1 for say, six months so we can see how it goes?

Other than the odd clip I've only ever seen him play twice, one game he looked brilliant going forward but lacked a final ball, the other he absolutely tore England and new one in the WC down the left hand side. Either way, anything is an improvement on Valenica at full back, harsh considering I like the lad.

My guess on what Hargreaves and other Anti-United pundits will say about United's new look team during a analysis at the start of next season, even if we signed Ramos, otamendi, darmain, Schneiderlin, benzema, depay.

"Defensively they are Ok, but no where near Chelsea or city. Will Mourinho swap Cahill for Ramos? not in a million years for me. Aguero or Costa are little troubled by that defense" -
Don Hutchinson

"In midfield Carrick, Schneiderlin, Herrera have no chance, no chance against Matic or Yaya they will just destroy that United midfield.

"Depay, I hugely doubt United's new recruitments"

"Rooney and Benzema, yes they look good on paper but from where do they get ammunition from?

"Average every where. This is the new reality they have to face.If United finish fourth this campaign then all I can say will be they punched above their weight, City are the biggest in Manchester without a shadow of doubt. I travelled with City for their pre-season tour to Australia all I saw in the stadium was blue, blue, blue with few Real madrid fans here and there. City are a big global brand way ahead of United"
- Hargreaves

"It is clear that Chelsea and City will fight for title, Arsenal a guaranteed third, Teams like United, Liverpool, Southampton, spurs fighting for fourth. I can see liverpool are way too strong for the chasing pack.If and only If United sign Bale they have a fighting chance for fourth spot" - Townsend

"Why Bale choose United over Chelsea or City?"
-Hargreaves

"Yeah, I agree with owen and andy on that. Chelsea and City are a million miles ahead of United, Even Arsenal are a quarter of million miles ahead" - Don Hutchinson

In our search for a new striker I'd like to put some new names out there and see who you'd prefer, these names are aimed at players who will have to sit on the bench by the way.
Ibrahimovic - getting on a bit, proven goalscorer happy to get one last big contract
Berahino - young, talented and relatively good value
Benteke - not at 32 million but for 22 could work well as an impact sub or cup striker
Chicarito - stick with him and we know he's a poacher
Cisse (who spat on evans) - this is the most ridiculous but he's proven to score goals and would happily sit on bench
Llorente - not sure how much he'd cost, had a crap time at juve could be worth a pint
Huntellaar - tall, quick(ish) and can finish

Just trying to think of people that are getable , will happily sit on bench and could cost less than 20million or nothing (Chicarito )

Believable0 Unbelievable4

07 Jul 2015 09:47:23
Llorente . is that pint of Lager or a pint of bitter ?

Agree1 Disagree0

07 Jul 2015 09:49:18
Pep - Only one I would touch with a barge pole is Llorente and the jury is out on him. Ings would have been a good bench warmer, ticks the HG box and would be cheap wages wise. If we have to pay off RVP then we should use him for the bench.

Muller and Kane are the ones we should be looking at, but done to death. No need to sign somebody imo, as Wilson, Depay and Fellaini can fill in if Wayne is missing and a striker is the least of our issues as they don't get many chances are hardly involved - midfield and CB is the issue.

Agree1 Disagree1

07 Jul 2015 11:16:00
One name stands out. Ibrahimovic!
Not sure he would want to sit on the bench but he sure as hell would bring something to the team.
Could he work with Rooney? Maybe. Would it end in tears and a messy break up with LVG? Probably
Would he get goals? Yes
Would it be fun? Absolutely

It bugs me that folk are perplexed that LVG has not delivered on his promise of 'getting them in early before the tour'.

How many promises did he deliver on last season? Remember he promised fluid attacking football and that the players would understand 'the philosophy' in a couple of months? In fact did he not promise the title at one point?

So the moral of the story is don't get your knickers in a knot over a shameless liars false promises.

07 Jul 2015 09:57:39
JMB - totally agree, it's like this cat has 99 lives when it comes to spinning the BS. We all 'want' to believe him but he is just winging it.

At the start he would at least come out after a game and tell the truth about the performances, then half way through the season he started seeing things that weren't happening because he was worried for his job. Desperate people say and do desperate things. Instead of working on his plans for his season I wouldn't be surprised if most of his time is spent working on pithy comments for his press conferences and the myriad of excuses that will be forthcoming.

These contracts for existing players should have been wrapped up months ago. We were competing for nothing and our time now could be spent negotiating the vital transfers we need and getting them in with the group preparing for what is going to be a very hard and long season. We were unfit and under prepared all season, we have more games next season and vital qualifiers early on - I'm very very concerned, we can't trust a word that comes out of his mouth.

Agree2 Disagree1

Actually Betty I was referring to the fans who have constantly complained about the managers statement of getting the players in before pre-season.

Where did I state he handles the negotiations? The guy couldn't even handle a £57million player correctly so I have no doubt he is not anywhere near the negotiation table. All I am saying is why make a statement to the fans when you know it's not in your power to upheld?

As for where I am posting from, what difference does that make? I apologise for not wanting to live my only life in the dreary surroundings of Manchester but I fly thousands of miles and pay thousands of my hard earned dollars to see as many games live as possible during the season. I get up at unjustifiable times to watch our team (which screws up my days big time) and I have in the past paid out my arse for tickets to big games such as CL finals etc. I would class myself as more of a fan than a lot of Mancunians to be honest.

I also apologise on Beast's behalf for having his own opinion. I know guys like you don't like that.

Agree2 Disagree4

07 Jul 2015 10:48:39
i sometimes wonder if beast and jmb are the same person.

BEAST how do you know we haven't been negotiating for VITAL TRANSFERS, this isn't football manager where you wrap up a player within a few days.

JMB - another typical post, whinging and moaning like a child who's had his toys taken away, the tour hasn't even started yet has it? so unless your magic crystal ball has told you we aren't signing anyone i think you should stop getting your knickers in a twist.

Agree7 Disagree0

07 Jul 2015 11:11:01
SPB - I don't know who we have been negotiating for etc. BUT I do know that the manager needs a lot of time with player in order to get them on his wave length, he said he wants and expects business to be done early so we have a full pre-season. Has that happened? If PSG hadn't come in for Depay I bet we would still be "negotiating" that deal as well.

It's funny how JMB and I get this "same person" tag, yet we don't say "spb, IMBS and Betty could be the same person because they disagree with JMB", we just happen to hold similar views on a lot of the issues facing our club, I am sure there will be many things we have differences on, but at the moment JMB is one of the posters on here that call a spade a spade in my eyes.

GCU - All of us want to do well, but voicing our concerns doesn't mean we want them to happen, it just looks like we are plodding along and not learning from previous mistakes. Just like how LVG would say the team didn't perform well, then start the exact same team for the following game with the exact same negative format. Banging heads on brick walls.

07 Jul 2015 11:13:23

I saw a post from him about LVG the other day which I agreed with but as you well know I probably will not agree with everything he says.

Beast - that's exactly right mate. At the moment we (among others) call a donkey as a donkey and others would call a donkey a stallion or a stallion a mare depending on how big the badwagon gets. Back to the original point of bringing players in early.

Surely if we bring in darmian (who apparently we've agreed a fee for) and schneiderlin (who for all intents and purposes looks likely to move soon as well) along with depay then that seems like swift business to me

For me i'd think we would bring in 4/5 new players and to have signed one and close to two isn't too shabby.

07 Jul 2015 12:39:46

07 Jul 2015 13:05:36
DSG - We suffered all season because of our CB issues, we play from the back and lack a leader back there. This is the most vital signing all summer, without the key organiser everything is stagnating.

Depay was only signed early because of PSG, why didn't we sign others early if that was the plan? Yes Woody is to blame, but LVG opens his trap and nothing but spin comes out.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Jul 2015 13:16:54
Beast

There is huge difference this year to last year as we have a settled squad that needs additions but they understand what LVG wants from them. Even if we started the season with predominantly players from last year i expect us to have a very good struts until the late arrivals can be bled in. I agree there is no excuses for a poor stet this year.

Our performance was great with Carrick in the team and we outplayed all the tope teams with the exception of the away win at Arsenal.

There is always a risk of missing out on high profile players and also the fact that it takes time to get them. Transfers between top clubs always take time.

Just for the sake of getting players early, no one will be happy if we went with option 3 because they are easier to get.

Agree2 Disagree0

07 Jul 2015 13:30:20
JMB- he's not my dad i'm afraid, i just don't get all the slating, we understand you don't like the manager but how is it the manager's fault players are not signed yet?

you say he promised to get players in early, but he didn't say he WOULD DEFINITELY get them, he did say the club would TRY(theres a difference), so unless they are not trying at all to get any players then surely he has fulfilled his promise? "we will try get players in early"

beast - only depay has been bought but how is it the manager's fault that players have not been signed, your argument was that our time should have been spent on getting players in, but is it really that simple to say "lets go out and get this player, and that player"? especially as the season hadn't finished.

its not that simple it takes time, the window has been open 7 days and the usual doomers and gloomers ie you and jmb are already getting on the manager's back. when he has no control over the situation.(negotiations) but if i'm correct he did have a hand in getting depay otherwise he was off to psg,

the players have only been back 2 days, no ones knows what's going on regarding transfers, just because the manager said he wants to get players in early doesn't mean that is going to happen.

Agree3 Disagree0

07 Jul 2015 13:31:01
Beast, i agree with you about the centre back and thought we would have signed hummels as soon as last season finished but it looks like he's happy to stay at dortmund or we have moved our interest on to others like otamendi (who has been at the copa america) and ramos(which has all the signs of a long running saga). Surely you can't blame lvg for either of those issues

And in terms of signing players early who is there out there that have been snapped up by other teams that were perceived targets for us

Only really clyne who we obviously didn't want and moved our interest elsewhere (most likely darmian)

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Jul 2015 13:32:10
also to add JMB, i only stick up for the manager when he's getting slated for no reason, how can you blame the manager for the lack of transfer activity?

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Jul 2015 13:38:40
Lol what's going on here then?

I'm pretty sure we aim to get our deals done early every year but it never happens. Its nothing new. Kloot used to blame it on the Glazer's trying to sell season tickets based on false promises.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Jul 2015 13:39:44
GCU - This season should be much better (could it be worse), but then if you switched the first 5 games with the last 5 games of last season there was no difference. We are about to add 5-6 players to the squad which is going to unsettle a lot, we may lose a keeper and we are going nowhere fast with the massive CB issue imo.

I agree we shouldn't just go for the easy option. But the reason we are struggling is that we overspent massively and now for any world class signing the seller is holding us over a barrel and the agent is expecting mega mega wages. We are suffering because of earlier mistakes. LVG should keep his trap shut and Woody needs replacing, too much damage.

If we replace Woody we can then make a big statement about not being held over a barrel anymore and it may mean we can actually sign top class players that our rivals would want rather than mid-level Italian teams.

The one thing LVG said is he needs players in early for pre-season - this hasn't happened. Getting his excuses lined up early if we start slow again or God forbid don't qualify for CL.

Agree2 Disagree0

07 Jul 2015 16:12:45
Yes it does. The manager says he wants and needs business done early, it hasn't been done for whatever reason, therefore the manager is weak and the people who are meant to be doing this job need replacing. Clients (us) are let down by incompetence.

All in all, we are being told one thing and another is happening time and time again if LVG can't deliver he needs to keep stum and kick off internally, not line up his excuses before a ball is kicked!

Having seen Darmian several times and having had several discussions with an Italian friend who is from Turin(although he supports Juventus).
My opinion is that he is a very good player who would certainly be an improvement on what we have. He's quick and stronger than he looks, he has excellent reading of the game and his defensive game is excellent. In his break through season he completed more tackles than any player in the top five leagues averaging nearly 6 per game. He could do with refining his ability when in advanced positions as his final ball can sometimes be lacking, although he is always a willing runner down the flank and his pace will always pull defenders out of position.
He was Italy's best player at the last world cup and in an ever present in their first choice line up.

I think the issues people have with him is he isn't what you could call a youngster and there seems to be an idea that unless you've hit the big time by the age of 22 then you'll never be a top player. Although they're are several top players who break this idea such as Drogba who was the same age as Darmian now before he made his big break. The other issue I think people have is he plays for an unfashionable side in Torino. I honestly doubt anyone has seen him play more than a couple of times and normally only because Torino was playing a Juventus or Roma and the interest was in the opposition not Torino or maybe you saw him at the world cup when on his international debut he tore Baines a new one. Baines being a player at the time we all wanted to see signed by ourselves.

Darmian is a much better defender than both Rafael and Valencia, he is also at least as good going forward.

Last season he made more tackles, interceptions, blocks and clearances than Valencia. He also created more chances and got more goals and assists than Valencia even though he was playing in a poorer team with players less likely to take the chances he provides for them. He is an obvious upgrade.

Sure he's not Clyne or Coleman that everyone quibbles over but he is probably a better more rounded player.

it's being reported in a few papers that we will seal a 63m deal for Ramos after agreeing personal terms with him.

Now, if this is true, then we have really been made a fool of.

There is no way a 29 year old CB with two years on his contract is worth that much.

Id go as high as 40m and if not then go all out for Otamendi.

I'd rather Shaqiri than ADM so I suppose I'm biased.

I like ADM, but I would take Muller and cash any day of the week, no need to add Robben, but a bonus if he was. That said, the report is a load of old b******s!
