So what does anyone know about this new Belgian boy Andreas Pereira? Hopefully another good find for the future.
Was thinking about our left back problem and instead of getting another foreigner in from another league why don't we go down the road and get Leighton Baines.
The best LB in the league these days and Everton need the money.
While we are there let's buy Rodwell, Berkley and Fellaini and turn them into our feeder club.
I know it's silly but just a thought, is amazing how they keep producing good young players.

Right here's my take on what we need.
I'm gonna be diferent and say that we don't need two midfielders, and certainly not an "AM" and "DM" when we have two hugely promising "AM" and "DM" in our youth set up in Morrison and Pogba. Buying someone who plays the same as either of these two would just be a huge waste of money or a huge waste of their talents.

What i feel we need is one midfielder, and one that is a box to box type player who leans to being abit more defensive. Someone to play along side the more attacking box to box midfielder we currently have in Cleverley. For me the candidates for this role are:

Javi Martinez- Best player out of the lot, but could be awkward to sign in january and would certainly be the most expensive.

Moussa Sissoko- A great player and someone i feel would work great with Cleverley. Cheaper then Martinez and someone who'll be right at the top of the game in a few years.

Kwadwo Asamoah- Another very good option and certainly the cheapest so far. Maybe not as talented as the other two but hard for me to judge due to the minimal amount of times i've seen him(although he has looked very good when i have seen him). Can also play on the left which could be useful, and is the most attacking so far.

Sami Khedira- A great player who hasn't settled in spain and could be got abit cheaper then a player of his ability should normally be available for. Only down side is he is much more defensive than the others, but that could easily be turned into a positive.

Yohan Cabaye- The man in form and wouldn't have made the list if he wasn't. Is he class or is it just good form? time will tell. Would be quite cheap as Mike Ashley loves to sell players.

Jack Rodwell- A good prospect but here that works against him as we need someone who is a great player now. Being english helps and he wouldn't take any time to settle. But IMO he's abit too like Pogba which would just block the formers path into the first team.

For me these are the best canidates for the job, i'd be over the moon with Martinez and very happy with one of Sissoko Asamoah or Khedira. Cabaye or Rodwell would just please me as we've signed some body.

As for midfielders leaving i think Cleverley Pogba and Morrison will be main stays of our team for years to come. I think Tunnicliffe needs a prem loan to build himself up for us. Then as well as the new signing i think we should keep two of:
Fletcher, Carrick, Giggs, Anderson, Gibson and Park.

I'm gonna be controversial here and say keep Carrick and Anderson and let the rest go. The reason for this is Anderson has shown glimpses of his abilty and out of the players is the only one who is likely to improve. And Carrick is very good at what he does and can play at CB if needed which just swings him infront of Fletcher for me, also his age means he won't block the youngsters as much as Fletcher would.

That would give us a midfield of Cleverley, Carrick, Anderson, Pogba, Morrison and the new player.

That i think has a good balance of quality strength youth and experiance. Then in a year or two's time you can move on Anderson and Carrick and promote Tunnicliffe and bring in a more attack minded player to maintain a balance.

Next we move onto left back. I feel we could leave this position until the summer if we have to, but would prefer to sort it in january. It's no good signing someone with potential as we have Fryers who i'd like to see have the role long term, we need a good stop gap for the next 3 years or so. I'd go with either Izaguirre Baines or Alvaro Pereira. Izaguirre being my first choice but a january move would be dependant on how he recovers from his injury.

Now the other main position i feel needs adressing is a good back up left winger to challenge Young. Brek Shea could be worth looking closely at for this role. But i think it's important that they be left footed. Either way this isn't important until the summer.

The only position that may need looking at is upfont, but this isn't an issue for january but for the summer when we should be moving on players like Berbatov, Owen, Macheda and Diouf.

So thats a CM and LB in january and a LW and ST in the summer.

Let me know what your views are.

Guys what's the deal with ryan tunicliff? I've seen him play a couple of times and he seems to be a decent dmf but does he have the potential to make it at man u ? Is he more like tiote or rodwell, like more of a man to man defender (just what rodwell did to silva) or just runing around the pitch poping up and breaking plays (what hargreaves should have done to us). Anyways i've seen a lot of scholes in his play especially the part where he goes crazy when giving away possession. So is his loan move benefiting him? will he be what we have been lacking for the last 5 years

Lads, CM problem solved short term. Expect David Beckham back in January on loan! I'm sure you'll all insult me and rubbish it but he is playing CM for LA Galaxy, know it's not as quick but he played for Milan and in champs league and he has changed his game from when he was 20 so can do a job in Prem plus he has always maintained his fitness! Fergie done it with Henrik Larson and he'll do same with Becks. This will just give a bit more time for Pogba/Cleverly to develop and who better for them to learn from!

Everyone just thinking that in the 2009-2011 season we got the best out of Rooney. Yes we were beat to the title but succeeded in the carling cup and shud have won champions league as we shud have beaten bayern.

Dat year we a 4-5-1 formation.

Last year our away form was apalling.

Maybe for difficult Cl games dis team could work:

De gea
Jones
Vidic
Smalling
Evra
Nani
Cleverly
Fletcher
Carrick
Young
Rooney

Yes very defensive but I think 3 in central mid is good enuf to stop barcas mid.

There has to be a reason that SAF did not buy a mid-fielder when every man and his dog can see we need one.
The only problem is that every man and his dog knew Arsenal needed a keeper and centre-back but Wenger still didn't buy!

Does anyone else think that SAF has a masterplan in place? I thought he did but I really don't know anymore.
Playing Rooney in midfield is absolutely ridiculous. (He can pass 40 meters into someones stride, but can't pass 5 meters half the time - wtf?). Our best striker has to play in midfield because the boss doesn't trust other players that are at his disposal. The problem with this scenario is that SAF is the person who has bought or kept all these players that he doesn't trust. Let's have a look at our midfielders;
Park: great worker - can't pass under pressure - sell him.
Anderson: great going forward when things are going our way - useless otherwise (which is most of the time lately), sell him.
Gibson: explosive shot, nothing else, sell him.
Carrick: ok player with good distribution, who does not seem capable of a forward pass (why SAF would instruct him not to pass forward I don't know). He is played as a defensive midfielder and he is not comfortable doing this as he does not have the qualities needed. SAF is now doing the same with Rooney (playing him out of position)- I don't understand! - sell him.
Fletcher: not united class (I'm convinced he would have made a big difference in the 2 Barca finals though). keep as back-up.
Cleverly: great all-rounder, keep him.
Giggs: . One of the greatest of all SAF's fledglings and an all-time united legend.
If I was SAF I would have retired Scholes, Neville and Giggs 3 years ago. I think it is appalling of SAF to have kept them on past their prime. How SAF started Giggs in a 2-man midfield against the best passing them in the world in a champions league final is incomprehensible. - he should retire asap.

So who is left. Jones is a centre-back. Pogba, Morisson, Tunnicliffe, etc are untested.

This is a ridiculous situation for a club our size to be in. I cannot understand how SAF has let it develop this far. I would have said he has no money but he got 50million to spend in the summer. I have a feeling that the money for Jones was robbed from this January's budget so there will be no big-money signings in the new year.
What is going on?????????

Look like Ericksen is being followed by Chelsea and City(they want all and end up with 50 players in 3 years)...
Reports suggested that both teams offered about 23mil for him for January already.

Ed & Syd is Man Utd interest dead by now?

I'd love to see Lucas, Gotze, Hazard or Ericksen at UNITED. We must grab one the these. Apart of Pastore those there are the future in this position and I don't think we are in position to loose one.

How about looking at Wanyama a Kenyan international playing for Celtic. Watching the Europa game vs. Rennes last Thursday I noticed he totally bossed M'Vila out of the game. I believe him and Pogba would do an excellent job as DM's in a formation like this:-
De Gea
Rafael, Smalling, Vidic, Fabio
Wanyama, Pogba
Nani, Cleverley, Young
Rooney
Then bring on Chicharito when teams are tiring.

Mancunian Red {Ed007's Note - Wanyama has really impressed me, but I don't know if he could step up to Utd yet.}

Good Afternoon guys / girls.

I personally, don’t see us spending big in January. There are a lot of names being thrown about such as Gotze. Highly unlikely in my opinion, and to be honest it would only start a bidding war which we all know we can’t win, if the likes of City or Real get involved. I know I am always telling people to be positive and will continue to say this. But I wanted to chuck in my two pence on our midfield issues. Yes, our midfield needs the most work. Yes there are teams that are not as good as us and yet they have a better midfield pairing or trio. It isn’t right that teams like Newcastle (Cabaye / Tiote) or Spurs (VDV, Modric, Parker ) are stronger than us in the middle of the park. We technically don’t have the dog in the middle of the park that chases everything, or a holding midfielder to sit and protect the back four. We also don’t have the creative spark in the centre that can be a constant supply line to our forwards with cute little slip balls. Our midfield is no way near as bad as some people on this site make out but instead of specialist’s (central) midfielders that are awesome at what they do, we have a number of them that are quite well rounded and decent at everything without being exceptional at anything.

The problem here is we concede too many chances and at the same time, if not addressed we will start to look a little one dimensional. Everyone knows it will be going down the wing and tossing it into the box. If we don’t address this then it will be hard for us too find momentum and do what we normally do at the back end of a season and go on to a run that allows us to lift the title.

This just goes to show the miracles that Sir Alex has been working over the years. The last few years he has kept us at the very top of the game despite being handicapped with respect to transfer fees and wages the club can afford.

I honestly think that this can be solved without even having to dive into the market in Jan, as in my opinion the talent is already there. I think it will happen gradually through the season. The kids….especially Pogba and Ravel will start to play more of a role through the season. Sir Alex knows exactly how good these kids are put has opted for experience over youth as the last month has not been great. It would have been completely different if we won the first four Champions League games and beat City.

The season is a long race and not a sprint and Sir Alex knows exactly what this group is capable of. So Gotze / Martinez / M’Villa etc, yeah, it would be great. But I for one will not cry if it doesn’t happen in the next couple of months.

The talent is there (at all levels of the club). Sir Alex has to weigh up and consider things we have no idea about. We see a player come back from injury and complain if he is not straight into the line up. Or second guess the gaffer on team selection as we are only looking at one game. McClaren talking about Fergie before the Galati game said that Fergie has a good idea of the team he wants to play 6 weeks from now. It’s like a game of chess, the best players are always think 4 or 5 moves ahead. It is Sir Alex’s adaptability that has kept us successful for so many years, so why doubt him now.

I think this is why it is taking the young ones (Home grown) a little longer to break through, but I am confident that by the time the season is up a lot of us will be taking about how well some of the kids did this year.

Please do not despair. We will not cave in. If anyone else wins the title, they will have to get a lot of points and definitely finish above us.

Every year I read comments about “End of an Era” (man, I’ve been hearing that for at least 15 years), “United can’t compete” etc etc etc, as well as individuals being slaughtered including the manager. What surprises me most is the massive volume of fans from our own club doing this.

Sure be critical, have your opinions, vent when you feel it is necessary. But at the same time stop flip-flopping from ecstasy to depression depending on one off results. Don’t worry about anyone else. But as I have said before I have my opinions just like many of you. In fact, it seems a lot of us feel the same way about most things United. However, I would feel fake it I spent most of my time being over critical of Sir Alex, explaining how he has lost the plot and doesn’t know what he is doing (I have read plenty of stuff like that here over the last few years), only to jump up and down when the season is over, shouting “20 baby”, “Sir Alex is the greatest manager of all time”, “I always knew we were going to do it”, “I never lost faith”.

If you’re going to be United, than actually be UNITED.

I know I am and I know I always will be…….

seems like there could be a lot of people leaving in the next couple of windows. Kitkat, gibson and giggs all gone by summer. Throw in anyone from all these: Rio, evra, carrick, park, macheda, owen, diouf, berb, and maybe even fletcher or valencia. All those have question marks over their future. Thats thirteen players. I can't see all that going over two windows. I reckon kitkat and gibson in january. Then giggs, evra, park, diouf in summer. Think rio will get one more season. Carrick, fletcher and valencia should all be squadmen. Macheda may be in last chance saloon. Owen may stay. Berb god knows.

maybe Phil Jagilka is the answer, versatile can play cb and dm and will be cheap. Yes i know he is 29 but theres two options we have, buy a versatile experienced player to act as stop gap for players like pogba, morison and tunicliffe or we spend big on martinez, M'villa or ozil, who will hinder the development of are own youth. Jagielka is from Manchester, experienced in the epl, at a good top ten team and wont mind sitting on the bench if it means winning trophies in the process.
January is a tricky transfer window, you go with someone who you know can play in epl like we did with (saha) or you take a gamble and pay for an overseas player that may take a long time to settle and a waste for that season.
Jagielka is versatile and if we get rid of the dead weights, gibson, kusack, park, carrick, berba, macheda and maybe diouf this will free up wages and in the summer we can invest in a long term midfielder.
before the city game i was saying we need to play the youth and i think this is more the case now. play them or risk losing them.
whats your thoughts ed on phil jagelka and the january transfer window.

Does anyone think this shud be are starting line uP:

Gk de Gea
Lb evra
Cb vidic
Cb smalling
Rb jones

Lm young
Cm cleverly
Cm carrick
Rm nani

Cf Rooney
S. Hernandez

I know what your thinking WHY CARRICK??
well I am usually the first to criticise him when he plays but he does do a good job in cm. His range of passing is much better than fletchers and he is solid defensively.

We do need nani on form to play. If he is not scoring and assisting , I would have valencia in straight away.

Chicharito is first choice for me but maybe in tougher away games bring in welbeck.WHY? Because he can play up front on his own and can hold up the ball.

Jones or Raphael? IMO jones has proved that he can defend and attack superbly. I would rather him at cb but at rb he is proving me wrong.
