There would not have been such an uproar if we had won against Seville. We might have lost to a stronger team in the next round and the fans would have been happy with all the progress we made this season. Mourinho would not have come out with his rant and the media would have had less to gossip about our club. The loss in that game created such a negative atmosphere that no one could see any improvement in the team. But this City game has brought some calmness back, specially the way in which we won.

Sailor to be fair is ManUtd supporters are spoilt and have such high expectations of our team (from glory days) so as long as we lose there will always be uproar š¤£š¤£.
Itās not wrong or right but thatās the way it is. Until such time we start winning every any and every title this dissatisfaction will exist. Good in a way I feel. We should not be too easily contented given our history and financial might. We must wrestle the dominance back to English football from Europe side.

Football, bloody hell. I was fortunate to be able to go on Saturday and honestly Iāve never experienced such an extreme contrast of emotions during a game. Honestly during half time I along with many fans were raging at how poor we were. City carved through us like a knife through butter and if sterling could finish it would have been 4.
When we needed the boys to step up the most, when we need the manager to deliver a churchillian esque speech, and when we needed to remember That we are Manchester United, boy did the boys go out there and play the United way. They played in the spirit that is demanded of every single united player. They played with desire and passion for the shirt. They showed they cared. And the way they all came over at the end was special. Both the fans and the players truly united for the first time in what seems like years, perhaps since sir alex retired. They understood how important yesterdayās victory was. And us fans for the first time in a long time weāre proud of every single one of those players.
I know we should not get carried away as I do not think itās been a particularly successful season. But I donāt care because I really enjoyed the game and we showed that when it clicks we do have the potential to be a very devastating team. I was delighted to see the Paul Pogba we all expect to see virtually stand up and tip the game on its head. Sanchez had his best game for us in the second half. He had a hand in all three of the goals and he finally linked up with pogba like we crave him to. Special mentions to Herrera who just gets it. He is as passionate as the home grown players and I thought he was very tidy yesterday and provided real balance for the team. Not a fan of smalling but takes some balls to step up and score that goal after being embarrassed by Kompany and consistently taken abuse from fans on Twitter. Not good enough to start but you can not fault his desire and passion.
The Sevilla game still burns when I think of t and it has taken a while to get over it. But what I saw yesterday was a team that clearly is together, fighting for each other and the manager. Iām a big Jose fan but I do think he cannot get us playing that attractive football we desire. But I think he has done a good job this year and we have clearly improved. He has instilled a doggedness and mental strength that we have lacked for a number of years now. Great to see this side come back so many times in the last month or so.
If we can get a cb, lb, rb and a cm in we have the makings of a very very good side. We have shown we can mix it with the best. But with that defence on saturday we wonāt win anything major. Funny how one result can change things. Not getting carried away but we have reasons to be optimistic and the lads showed me on Saturday that they do care. And that means so much to myself and fellow fans.

I can only imagine what it was like to be there. Must have felt like you were in a bearpit at half time-the crowd were giving some stick! What a turn around second half.
I'd like to see Lindelof get some games next to Bailly to see if they can click. We know what Smalling can do, yes he has passion and I think is a good back up. But he can't be first choice going into next season, neither can Jones. Time to find out if Lindelof can make the grade with a run of games.

I agree i really like lindelof and think he has improved in the second part of the season. He brings a calmness on the ball and is superior in that aspect to the rest of our cbs. I would like to see him partner bailly and think he can make it but it remains to be seen whether jose fully trusts him yet.

Good evening Ed, if you have time can you please explain how this works I really don't understand any of it?
What's the point in Pogba's agent offering him to other Clubs when he's not even two years into a five year contract? Surely Utd would have to be willing to sell and are under no pressure to do so as he's under contract.
Is the agent working off his own back or with the knowledge and blessing of the Club? Surely Utd would never sell a talent like Pogba, approaching his peak years to our main rivals especially after having invested so much to bring him back!
I just can't make any sense of it?

Afternoon, well yesterdayās 2nd half performance and attitude was a pleasure to watch. I really hope we get to see this from the off from now on. But the reason for my post and what I found really interesting and seems to have gone unnoticed is that Pogba gave a lot of credit to Carrick for identifying the runs he made for his goals. What a shrewd appointment Carrick to the coaching set up could be. Anyone with half a brain knows Carrick has a brilliant football brain. I hope he is not as as underrated as a coach as he was a player. If things go well, he could be a heck of a manager.

Still buzzing from y'day.
It hasn't gone unnoticed to me that in the past couple of months we've twice managed to come from 2-0 down and win. Even more impressively both results came away from home and we also came from behind to beat Chelsea. So in the last few weeks we've managed to come from behind in some very important games and against two of our main rivals. These types of performances help to forge a real confidence and winning mentality throughout the squad. It helps to fuel a belief that we're never beaten and we're always in the game. The best sides are forged from these beliefs.
I think we saw y'day that Pogba and Sanchez can play together and it's no coincidence to me that in our biggest game, in our time of need our two most talented players dragged us back from the brink of a humbling and embarrassing defeat.
I accept that on occasions our football has been poor, we've looked disjointed, suffered some bad defeats (Sevilla hit me particularly hard) and we've been overly defensive but if we dare to look hard enough all the signs are there that Jose is slowly returning us into a top team.
Last year we had a long unbeaten run and he delivered two major trophies. This season we started well, played some good football and we're scoring goals. More recently we've started to win games coming from behind even away from home and against our biggest rivals. We haven't been able to do this since Fergi retired. Old Trafford is gradually becoming the fortress of old and this season we've now beaten City, Chelsea, Spurs, Liverpool and Arsenal.
It takes time to build a team. Jose inherited an unbalanced squad built haphazardly full of either ageing or average players with no character or personality. We'd lost all direction, become a shadow of our former selves and we're cruising into a period of apathy and mediocrity.
Jose has changed that and challenged the players to deliver more. Even Pogba, one of Jose players and our most expensive acquisition can't escape those standards.
Performances like y'day, whilst far from perfect are further proof that we're not that far away. He's building momentum, improving and whilst it's been a hard watch at times I urge patience and restraint. The signs are there if you just dare to believe them!

Most importantly I hope Pogba calms himself down and work out with Jose and that Pogba-Sanchez partnership strengthen. We can of course then reward Pogba with a better contract. Perform and youāll be rewarded. Also captaincy to Pogba.

Great result. Helped by some bad finishing by sterling. Also, terrible error by referee for not giving a penalty to city for the horror challenge by Young on Aguero. But we need some luck as we've had many a decision go against us.
City will still win the league but I'm over the moon (pardon the pun) that they didn't do it yesterday.
So, city away to Spurs next week. They could possibly and quite probably lose. We play WBA and we should win (not guaranteed) . But the gap is then reduced to 10 points. Funny things happen at this time of season. Shane about put performances against Huddersfield and Newcastle and City at old Trafford, otherwise, this league would have been up for grabs.
Proud of the way we played in 2nd half and I pray that our manager recognizes that we have great attacking players who could lead us to great things next year, just take your foot off the brakes mourinho.

That was not a good old fashioned tackle at all. You canāt of ever seen a proper tackle or been involved in one if you think thatās the definition of one. There was nothing malicious in it granted it was just Ashley young going with his studs first for the umpteenth time this year and also using the wrong foot to make the tackle with and because of his horrendous tackling technique the follow threw was high and on another day he could of cost us the game and also broke someones leg. Itās a shame proper tackling is becoming a dying art it.

Just watched the highlights again and noticed a few more things.
1. 3 assists for Sanchez, he may not be hitting the heights yet but he knows how to deliver a ball.
2. After our first goal, every player immediately ran back to the restart, no celebration, no jumping about, Pogba went and collected the ball to get back on with it. Great to see the determination after a poor first half.
3. For our second goal, Pogba passes the ball from the centre circle and then runs forward, he doesnāt have to break his stride and just runs on to the cross. We need to see more of this.
4. A great second half from Pogba showing us the player we thought we were buying but where was he in the first half? Iām not seeking to criticise him, Iām just trying to understand the huge difference we see in him, not just yesterday but through the season.
5. Hats off to Herrera, doesnāt play for ages and then does what he does, tidy, committed, energetic, and a brilliant lay off from his chest. Iād like to see this team carry on.
6. What a save from DDG. All the focus is on Pogba but yet another incredible save from DDG to keep us ahead.
The final point, as ever, is why donāt we see this type of play more often? One good half does not make us world beaters. We have more points, scored more goals, conceded fewer than last year and will more than likely finish second which is progress (although we may not win a trophy) . You can see the potential in this team, we just need to consistently deliver it.

That is the baffling thing Tony, why donāt we see the level of performance more often and I canāt put my finger on it, maybe was a lack of belief but yesterday showed the fans and themselves that they have it in them to be expansive and beat anyone. Weāve beaten all our rivals this season, ok some have beaten us too but if we can find that consistency we will be hard to stop.
Totally agree on Sanchez, seeing more from him now, could be a game changer for us next season and who knows this could be a turning point for Pogba, the news that came out then that performance, I hope someone shows him that 2 minute spell and says this is what your about, Herrera needs to be in this starting line up for me going forward or if Jose doesnāt fancy him a player like him, itās of benefit to Matic and Pogba.
Top second half and tho it only delays the inevitable this will hurt city from now into next season, I donāt see teams rolling over next year like they have this for them.

Lot better more entertaining game yesterday than what we have seen for a while .
First half very poor second we showed some bottle .

Dsg,
De Gea is the best out there atm. One bad kick does not define a keepers standing. Plus witg the way that pitch is watered i'd be bricking it every backpass! Normally his distribution is top notch.
To be fair he has let a few in this season where I think he might have done better but saves like that last night defies logic. The way he twisted his hand to push that ball over amazes me. Such little reaction and thought time. Saves like that are as good as a goal scored. In which case he's probably on 15 for the season then!

Top performance yesterday just what we need from players putting on the shirt.
There are reasons why some players play in the big games and some dont, De Gea again showed why he is the best.
Smalling needs replacing with a better center half and so does the full backs.
The rest of the team played well.

08 Apr 2018 12:43:08
My only criticism of de Gea is that he tends to be slow off his line, forcing defenders to make clearances of balls he could be collecting. This is especially problematic when you have defender like Smalling in front of you, who often seems to panic and get his feet tangled up, turning clearances and throw-ins into corners. Other than that he constantly demonstrates his claim to be the No 1 goalie in the world.

08 Apr 2018 13:02:31
I agree with DSG and Shawthing on de gea. I've said this many times before. He gets stuck to his line too much for my liking but he's the best shot stopper around and his distribution is excellent.
In answer to AJH initial post, we play cautiously as the manager instructs them to be cautious. Then we go 2 goals down and could and should have been 4 down at half time so the team talk goes as follows :
"Ok boys, my tactics were good but you didn't obey them, what shall we do in 2nd half? " To which the players answer "why don't you go back to your hotel and order your room service and watch Netflix and leave us to play attacking football and display what we're capable of".
And AJH, that's the reason why we don't play like that more often. The manager is too busy shutting the opposition down and not enough effort is made to attack. There was one occasion when we were 3-2 up and got a free kick and smalling was signalling to the bench if it was ok for him to go up into an attacking position. It is baffling.

As a former keeper one miss-kick per game is good going and the pace of a Utd -City derby would I imagine create a lot more in 90 mins

Gds,
Not heard from Stand since half time? Only for the fact I've been busy. Nothing to do with my post earlier in the day.
Am I expected to change my view on Jose and this united side because we won that game? I'm sorry but I base my opinion over many games. We won 2-3 today, good result, but let's not kid ourselves. If it weren't for some woeful finishing we could and should have gone in 4 down at half time. Your ok with this though yeh?
People are ok with us consistently poor in the first half of nearly every game? We got knocked out the league cup by Bristol City, Knocked our the CL by a poor side in Sevilla, who we didn't beat in two occasions, and were 13 points behind city, having spent all that money. If people are happy that we're doing well then fine, but my expectations are higher than that.
The brand of football we play is terrible to watch with little entertainment. In fact I find myself browsing social media on my phone while watching recently it's like watching paint dry.
Jose' CV speaks for itself, but that doesn't mean he's still top draw now. I think football has moved and and left him behind tbh. I think we need a new exciting younger manager who wants us playing exciting football.
Just because we came back to beat a much changed city team doesn't really make a difference to anything. We're still well of the pace and I don't believe Jose will ever get us challenging for the title. I also believe we're a long way behind City in all aspects.

Stand, much of what you say is true, but nevertheless we are on pace for 84 points a total that has won the title in 1/ 3rd of EPL seasons, and which in no season would it have earned less than runners-up. So, despite the frustration at our performances, the lack of passion, and sometimes the lack of any apparent skill or teamwork, I simply cannot agree that we're as bad as you are making out.
I do agree that we were very lucky today. City could and should have put the game out of reach by half time. They hit the woodwork twice in the second half, could have had a penalty, and were prevented from equalizing by a spectacular save. But then football is that sort of game. We have had a few games this season ourselves when we didn't put our chances away and then paid the price. It takes a real sourpuss to be quite so negative after we've just come back from 2-0 down against a team like City at the Etihad to win 3-2.

Coulda woulda shoulda, City didnāt go in 4-0 and we played better second half and won so Iām ok with that. I think people give Sevilla a hard time, they are technically a very good team, what did everyone expect that we was ready to win the CL, no chance, maybe the 1/ 4ās at best was our limit this season. Jose gets stick for not playing youth, well he has more than any other coach, for not playing this gung ho football, more than one way to win and heās won x2 trophies already with an FA Cup potentially this year, any regular season we win this league but some say Jose is past it, no City have been exceptional and teams have been to scared to go at them, they are vulnerable tho as has been shown this week, you cannot turn round and say a āweakā City team, they have a squad of world beaters, they are the so called best team ever remember, we showed them up on their own patch, a derby win means a lot so letās not make it about having a pop at Jose, weāve heard that all year despite actually doing well, letās enjoy the moment.

I donāt get the 80 odd points has been enough for most of the premier league winners, guess what, itās not good enough anymore. Thatās my point. You have to improve and change with the times. City will be just as good if not better next year.
As for arguing weāre not good enough to win the champions league, I totally agree, but donāt tell me we shouldnāt be beating a Sevilla side over two legs. Itās nonsense. A lot on here donāt think Liverpool are a better side than us, theyāre going into the semi finals.
I donāt see us winning the league with Jose at the helm. And weāre not enjoyable to watch. I donāt even think a lot of the players enjoy playing for him and his style. Yesterday was a good result, but nothing more than that. We didnāt go and boss the game from start to finish and give them a hiding. We got very lucky in the first half and had a good second one. Weāre not a top side, far from it.

08 Apr 2018 12:36:46
Stand. Two years ago Leicester City won it with 81 points and scored only 68 goals, so the argument that it's not good enough any more is not necessarily true. It's not good enough this season for sure but then this season has been a runaway. Who knows what next season will bring. Maybe we're in for a Bayern Munich type dominance by City, but maybe not. They will surely spend again but can they really get much better?
The questions for United are the same as they have been since Ferguson retired. Who is the right manager? And is the one you might prefer available? Is the set up at United attractive? Given where we're coming from any manager is on a hiding to nothing. If he wins, it's no more than expected. If he loses, he will be under constant scrutiny because of our status as the "biggest club in the world". If he doesn't spend he'll be hammered. If he does spend and the players don't come up to expectations, he'll be hammered. Sometimes highly rated managers (Pocchetino and Klopp perhaps? ) perform well for the reason that they relish the role of underdog.
I'm sure everyone will agree with you that we're not yet a top side. The loss to Sevilla showed that. Has the season been disappointing? Yes, but that's largely as a result of United supporter's elevated sense of expectation - that nothing less than winning everything is enough.
