hey all

i know this isn't specific to our club and will barely effect anything to do with our club but am a little concerned about the new deal being talked about in regards to media coverage of football. You all should know, and if you dont shame on you, that the football league kicked of this weekend but there has been a lack of coverage in regards to newspaper imagery. This in my understanding is due to a new deal being set up between the leagues/clubs/media outlets. As a resident of Brighton i feel this restriction on allowed media outlets may be hugely detrimental to alot of clubs as their sponsors include these 'free' media distributions bring attention to their brands, and so revenue made from shirt sponsors for instance may fall.

Sorry if im rambling a bit but not 100% clued up on all the info so if any of the regulars and Eds can help me to understand it all a bit more i would appreciate it.

thanks

Paso {Ed036's Note - Apologies, but I'm not sure to which deal you're referring here.}

2208: FOOTBALL - A Manchester United XI win 2-0 away at Welsh Cup winners Llanelli with trialist and Togo international Souleymane Mamam opening the scoring. Mamam, 24, was released by United back in 2007 but is back on trial with the club after four years in Belgium and he gave the visitors the lead after 11 minutes with midfielder Paul Pogba completing the scoring late on, converting the rebound after he saw his penalty saved.

Now having had a better look at our young midfielders over the last few weeks i am more confident than ever that not signing a new midfielder wouldn't be a bad thing. Both Anderson and Cleverley look ready to step up to the plate and any new signings would just hinder their progress. Does anyone think wilshere would have done as well as he did last season if Fabregas had been fit all season or if they signed someone else to play ahead of him? Of course not. All we would be doing is making things harder for our youngsters when we should be encouraging them. Our current squad is good enough to beat anyone with only a question mark over barcalona is it worth spending 80+ million(fee+wages) on sneijder to improve our chances on beating a team that we may not even play? Barcalona are beatable and lesser teams than us beat them last year. IF we were to sign another midfielder then personally the only player i feel would be worth going for now would be Javi Martinez as he is much younger than sneijder is more suited to our style of play and what we need would be cheaper(although not a cheap signing) than sneijder and would improve our first team. A midfield of either Martinez and Cleverley/Anderson or a midfield of all three would be awesome and more than a match for anyone.

Here is the full transcrip of Sneijder's recent interview:

'The situation is that I'm an Inter player and there is a big chance that I'll still be an Inter player at the 31st of August. There's also a chance that I leave.'

The interviewer asks: 'Does that have to do with you?'

Sneijder: 'No, not really. That's more because of the club. The club has been really clear: "If a good bid comes in, than we have to let him go."

'They don't want to loose me, but there is a chance that they'll let me go.'

Interviewer: 'Do you want to go?'

Sneijder: 'I don't know. That's why I say, I'm an Inter player and the there is a big chance that I'll still be at the 31st of August. And if something crosses my road, I have enough time to judge that and to take a decision about that.'

Interviewer: 'We're standing here now, but If Manchester calls and they want to have you, you would immediately say yes, won't you?'

Sneijder: 'Yeahh (sounds doubting, but he does say it), but Manchester hasn't called officially.'

Interviewer: 'And unofficially?'

Sneijder: 'Nahh, unoficially maybe'

Interviewer: 'Have they also called you, I mean is there any contact? Of course there is contact..?'

Sneijder: 'There's always contact. I have contact with everybody, haha. You know that don't you?'

'No, but there's nothing going on right now, so.. I'm here now, and I'm going in now to the guys (Dutch national team) that I haven't seen for a while now and I'm going to concentrate on that right now. Besides that, I'm an Inter player and I'm with the Dutch team now.'

Interviewer: 'You're going to England together with the other players. Are you also coming back with the other players?'

Sneijder: 'Uhh, you mean back to Holland?'

Interviewer: 'Or is there any consultation planned in England?'

Sneijder: 'Uhhh, I don't know'

Interviewer: 'Oh, I hear it, yes, right?'

Sneijder: 'Uhh.. Well, I'm going away after the game. At least, if I get the permission of our (national) coach. I have to go back.'

Snjeider doesn't defend he only attacks. THerefore he isn't a Utd player. WE would have to change our style to incorporate him. Everyone wants Snjeider, nasri etc they are really good players but we need to give our youth a chance. Tunnicliffe pogba and morrison look top players and i expect that they will be given opportunities in carling cup and FA cup and maybe the occasional Prem game. Hopefully Tunnicliffe will excel at Peterbrough and will come back and break into the 1st team.

Before I forget Ravel Morrison is in the squad to play Llanelli tonight. Since his visit to the Police station he has not featured in any games, but he will return tonight which is very good news, hope to see him feature with Pogba in the League cup.

Also Arsenal are paying an initial £12m for AOC plus £3m in add-on clauses. Have to say that is a hefty sum for a 17 year old that is unproven in the PL. United bought the Belgian Beckham (Adnan Januzaj) at 16 for £300k. Pogba only cost us £500k at 16.

I've been visiting this site for the past 1 month or so and thought should post something. Being a united fan I was interested in sneijder but after reading so many posts of how he is old and not good enough I am confused now. IMO United for a long time have been craving for a free kick specialist, beckham and to some extent ronaldo were the last ones to score from set peices at a regular basis. Nani was showing some skills but his accuracy with free kicks has only gone down. Some might not consider it a big deal but I think we can get at least 10 more goals per season and some very important ones also. With all the players we have been linked who do you think is good in this department(except for sneijder). And just out of curiosity what do you post on this page once the transfer season is over?

we dont need ws,our squad especially on yesterdays performance is more than capable of being successful, why pay silly money for him?? anderson and cleverley will be stars this season in the middle with a fit fletcher and carrick as back up.Ashley young, nani and rooney looked great.SAF's genius showed again by using smalling as a right back,he looks very natural there.Jones too was emmense yesterday. We've also come off the back of a very successful tour so the team spirit is very high, bringing ws in now wouldnt make sense in my opinion.Any thoughts??

Good to see Ravel Morrison back in the reserves tonight at Llanelli I do hope this kid sorts his off the field troubles out because this boy can be whatever he wants to be and would hate to see him throw all that talent away because of the idiots he mixes with off the field
Come on Ravel you can do it

I just am not convinced sneijder is who we need to to improve our midfield. We have the money and can offer a decent contract and dont get me wrong if we sign him i will be satisfied but there would be a nagging feeling there may be a better fit out there. Someone like Kagawa, Pjanic, Costa, i personally feel would be more appropriate. I use that word carefully as i think sneijder may want to be the big fish at utd and may not like being rotated for the likes of Cleverly, Anderson etc etc. I think the 3 mentioned above would appreciate how big a club Utd are and be more willing to act as a squad player. not to mention they would all be ALOT cheaper over a 5 year period. There is something about the way sneijder plays that doesnt convince me......

How can ya say sneijder is overhill at 27 he is one worlds elite players I think it bit off a joke tat ngiak can say this yet he is calling for a signing off parker . Imagine sneijder pin point passing in our fast counter attacking young side . The signing off him is ideal for us . I just find it bit odd ya call him over hill. Silly statement mate Y

I know Anderson was decent yesterday but what i feel is that he makes unnecessary LATERAL PASSES(safe passes) and is not ambitious enough with his passing, i know comparing him with Paul Scholes is a crime but still i would like him to play the ball forward more often.

I didnt say he would give his heart to utd til 35, I was saying how can he b over the hill wen he could easily play til 35. 2/3 good games for Holland? average last 2 seasons? He won the treble wiv inter the year before last and dominated the game against Barca yet ngiak wants a player who (1) Flopped at chelsea (2) was average at Newcastle (3) is OLDER than sneijder (4) got relegated with West Ham (5) couldn't even boss the midfield in a game against cardiff. Ngiak wants a player who is so good that he is stil playing in the championship Yet sneijder is over the hill?

(I know I know on mobile can't paragraph) Sydney! NGIAK with all respects. I think we have enough youth. for me sneijder pulling strings centre. Players in front and around the likes of ours. chico and rooney young on one nani the other nothing is static maybe anderson alongside ahead or behind as the game progresses, carrick or fletch or giggs with the twins running up the sides smalling or evra the confidence of the defence behind. The movement, the pace, the crazy amount of options. pure nirvana for a playmaker. Add the players i've missed out. For me he is the missing man. Will take pressure of the back and allows to push up and strangle teams like we did before. Youth can't consistently conduct that kind of pressure. For me he's the best suited right now for getting the best out of that attacking chaos. He would get a buzz from it as soon as he touched the ground. Can you say he'd have it that good at inter? That many options in front of him? Inter are good but they don't have our attack. Could you honestly say you'd intrust that to anderson now? Or cleverly now? No doubt they are rising up to it. But not proven not yet. And kagawa and goetze pastore all the same. Having to blood them in. I ask who better to get the best out of the youthful attack we have right now? In this stage of obvious evolution, with precision in decision making you only get from experience. Ha i guess its all perception. In the blue corner the negative, the red the positive both equally reasoned. Which pretty much means jack I guess. If he comes he could fail exactly like you say . i'd like to see what would happen to the team, with its attacking riches, if he came and it succeeds. Next level? Cons red

Aren't we all sick of these Sneijder rumours by now ? Let's be honest if he does join us it will only be for the money and probably ruffle some of the egos already within the dressing room. Yesterday was further confirmation that our squad is good and young enough to improve upon last years effort , more so when we consider those that didn't play. Our football was class , the best I have seen for some time and approach the new season with real enthusiasm .

If we want to splash some cash before the deadline, then lets go for a young British player. One I have always rated is Lee Cattermole. He would give us an aggressive edge that we haven't had since Keano left, cost us a fraction of Mr Sneijder's fee and would improve, significantly, playing in a squad of United's quality.

Finally, good luck to Gabriel Obertan at Newcastle. He does possess some quality but unfortunately, was just not quite good enough for us. I wish him well.

I don't think after our performance in yesterday's game Sir Alex will sign another player this summer. Personally, i don't think its a bad idea. We should wait until winter and then sign a great young and not too "overpriced and old" midfield player like goetze, kagawa or costa.

IMO if we are still unable to sign the so called world class player, we will still be good enough for challeging for all the titles this year. We have Carrick, Ando, Cleverly & Fletcher in the midfield positions & Park & Giggs can also contibute in this area. So even if somebody is injured and not in form we have enough talent. And Rooney played excellent in midfield hole inthe scond half in community sheild. So i'll not be disappointed if we dont sign anyone.

TIME TO RETIRE OLD MAN GIGGS- after watching the match for chairty, no not the 8-2 defeat, i will say utd are looking younger, fresher and your movement both on/off the ball has increased. if you are to ever match barca this will help. your young player cleverly does indeed look quite a player. but do not get too over excited, as i was shocked at how poor city were,or is it just they dont have the fight or the team play yet compaired to utd ,because they do have the players or maybe they rely on tevez too much. about giggs its time to let go, hes only holding back your good younger players. sadly for you wellback is more like hunchback, trying to control the ball ,he wont make it ,well not at utd anyway, expect steve bruce might buy him in jan.so with 5 days to go to kick-off ,you are looking good, but so are we after a good clean sheet, bring it on mancie mancs...........lfc

Ngiak WTH are u on about? How can anyone say that Sneijder is almost over the hill? he's 27 isn't that when players are in their peak? n who's to say he wont stil b playing when he's 35? that's 8 more years, I suppose Xavi is over the hill then in that case? and Iniesta will be next year when he's 27? Your all fickle, you fink its Football manager where every player has to b under 24 otherwise they wil not improve, Sneijder is probably in the top 3 best cm's in the world and anyone who says otherwise clearly doesn't have a clue

Big Mac"""
dear mr big Mac
sure ngiak may not be right in his evaluation of players
but after 2/3 above average games for holland in the world cup
he has a very very average season last season
and the season before that
he seems to be more concerned with his bank balance
and his tan
rather than in playing for his team
in a piss poor league at that
watch pastore flounder in a slightly better French league...:)
ngiak rather have a grafter and and epl experienced Parker
to help develop our youngsters
lest you forget he was the best player in the league last year?
rather than enrich a non committed and uninterested money grabbing mercenary like ws looking for his retirement payday
you think he will give all his heart for man united till 35?
ha ha ha
and you say ngiak lives in a fantasy land
giggs scholes Neville are all totally different people with different circumstances .
surely an astute judge of players like you dear sir can tell the difference right?

Sorry to jump on the Cleverley bandwagon but this kid was class when he came on yesterday. Guys I do tink dat fergie and the coachs have worked alot on the one touch passing and on possession in midfield. Example was halfway thru second half united were 66% and city 34%

Yes we probably need a gOal scoring midfield but I tink nani is already dat. He seems to have the free job tO roam around the pitch. His work effort has increased and I can really see a ronaldo like player in him but he works for the team.

have a question for the big guns on here ie eds Sydney gan/ngiak red man etc

With all these increasing rumours that we are going to sign Schneider, where do you see him fitting into the team?

I mean today both Rooney and Nani were given quiet free roles, the same kind of job given to Wes. Do you see him taking over one of our big guns or being played deeper as a centre mid?

Noley"""
dear mr noley
firstly
ngiak is a penguin, he is neither big nor is he allowed to carry guns
second
he is always in favour of youth
as mentioned in his recent post
he thinks sneijder will be like berbatov in slowing the pace of our game etc
it will take time for him to fit into english football and to the pace of our team
and of course the disharmony with regard to the huge pay etc etc
ngiak thinks he will be a huge disruption to the team
they are playing well from preseason and this game. let them develop together
the next fergie's fledglings

Hi Guys

What a great game between United & City, What was more interesting was how well Cleverly, Ando
Jones and Smalling played a Blinder...

But was it that $hTT% were just not at the game or did the youngsters of today totally outclass thee midfield that cost the blue side of Manchester alot of money??

Either way it was Entertainment at its best, As far as the Sneijder saga goes, if we get him it will only Help Ando and Cleverly up their game and might even help Carrick peform a bit better....

As with previous season and the CL final showed we need our CM sorted, So hopefully if its not Sneilder its someone experienced who can grab the game by the neck and control play while the Youngsters will be more focused and learn from whoever it may be

Personally i would love to see Sneijder arrive, but i would be more happy to see a DM - CM experienced playerthat can hold the midfield together, As far as AM goes Nani and Young were sublime

So can you reply with your Opinions who would suit our CM, Im with Sjneider or Gotze

Just settling down to watch the game again..first half p2p never ever again..feeling like the lass from bewitched is playing with me.. Avoided all news watched the second half a few hours ago, still jumped the ceiling when nani scored the last. And what a second goal Cleverly was superb. No matter what is argued we are missing a goalscoring mid and that's key here. Wouldn't mind sneijder for the reason it gives anderson and cleverly something to aspire too. Being that neither them got the benefit of being around that particular scholes. That's my reasoning on it. And No matter how long you support this club its never give up character always impresses.. The link up play the youthful energy, man city didn't know what hit them. Its been a perfect pre season. with or without the addition of the dutchman. We have a squad well capable to excite. Literally astonished De Gea is getting criticised...
He put one foot wrong and that wasn't even an awful mistake...
The shot took him slightly by surprise and someone should have closed it down better and the ball swerved violently right at the end...
I've seen it happen to far more experienced goalkeepers than him. I have noticed that most of the people doing the criticising are however anon so I would not be at all shocked if they were not United fans at all and are looking for any excuse to try and find fault United signing one of the most promising young goalkeepers in the world.

p.s. his distribution at times was out of this world.

So I felt it neccessary to rain on the community shield victory parade, although congratulations for beating City. As an evidently unbiased And proud Liverpool football club supporter, I would like to voice my opinions on cleverley, the player you all seem to be deeply impressed with. Now, I really didn't see anything special in this so called midfield maestro, the "next Paul Scholes". So, I'm wondering after watching the match how this "excellent" midfielder compares to old Scholes. He didn't make a bad tackle, or do anything really creative. All I saw were a few row z shots. I look forward to when our two great clubs clash again, so I can see if I am proved wrong on yet another hyped up English player.

Just wanted to point out how hungry all the young lads looked today. I think this bodes well for the new season with many of these young players fighting for places and desperate to win trophies. I would like to see sneijder come in but I do wonder if he'd have the right commitment to want to win everything if he did seeing as he already has with inter. Perhaps I'm not one to question his professionalism but the young lads looked like they are going to fight for everything this year.

I know quite a few people are saying 'I don't know if Cleverley is ready yet' or 'Does he have what it takes to boss a midfield'....well to be honest with you I think he does. I can guarantee this time last year that nobody on this site would have said Jack Wilshere would be one of the only midfielders this year to keep Xavi and Iniesta at bay.
