Don't know if I'm being paranoid but we keep missing out on our targets like nasri and snijder last year hazzard and moura this year I think it says we cannot compete with chlelsea or city anymore until the glazers finally go,, and the reason I say it is tonight fergie has said we are struggling at the back with Evans smalling and jones all doubtful for the start of the season so he said he can play carrick their? Yeah that's right let's play a midfield who never makes a tackle at the heart of our defence . I mean it worked wonders at fulham years ago, didn't it please print this

Believable11 Unbelievable7

Totally agree, why in the name of god doesn't SAF go out and bloody sign a centreback? Has he not learned from the mistake of relying on Vidic too much? Absolutely senseless idea

Flimbo

Agree7 Disagree3

Maybe the timing of this crisis in our defence is a blessing in disguise (given the transfer window is still wide open). The best way to handle this situation is to "kill two birds using one stone". That's, use all the necessary resources to land Javi Martinez of Athletic Bilbao, use him in defence now until the crisis is over and then play him as a Central Midfielder. As versatile as he is, he would be a perfect signing!

What makes you think I don't work hard or that I can't afford anything you own and more? You look a bit silly with posts like that, United fans are not welfare fiends, we come from all walks of life and classes and only want the best for the club. So the last thing I would ever want to do is buy my beloved club and run it the way I wanted cos that's not how I believe a club should be run, it's all about bringing people together and creating a community instead of pretending to be goodhearted fans with no intention of any profiteering whatsoever whilst buying against the real fan's wishes and taking all the profits for a single group of fat lying corporate gluttons.

Eds, due to fergie being worried about lack of centre backs due to injuries could you see him going for a centre midfielder that can also play centre back? As we no he does like versatile players and someone like wanyama could do the job well.

Nice to see that man city's spending has come at a cost (excuse the pun) the scousers have told them £27 million for agger! (I wouldn't give em two 2nd class stamps and half a pack of hula hoops for him)
And over £100 million for de Rossi admittedly the guy is class but £100 million I think not!
Shows what happens when you chuck silly money at clubs for players.
Warrington red

Believable9 Unbelievable1

It wasn't really £100mil that they suggested, Roma's president said that if Cavani has a price tag of £100mil then De Rossi should exceed that. I don't think he was suggesting that he is worth it.

Rowan

Agree2 Disagree0

Lfc fans rate Agger really highly and say he is far better than skrtel. To be fair he is one of the best centre backs in the world so fair price especially if lescot is 22milliom and thiago silva is 40mil.

Agree2 Disagree0

Agger is not one of the best centre backs in the world. Kompany, Pique, Vidic, Vermaelen, Chiellini, Silva, Hummels, Ferdinand, probs Subotic as well are all far better. Gilly

Does anyone else think it is unusual for a Man Utd player to openly talk about a possible signing like Rooney has just done about RVP.

He seemed very confident and positive about him signing and forming a formidable partnership. Combine this with what SSN were reporting that the MUFC players were very confident of RVP joining very soon. I think Fergie has put the feelers out there to some of his big players to increase the volume of conversation and speculation to put pressure on Wenger. I also think it is a very strong sign of confidence throughout the squad that the deal will happen

RedKnight

Believable1 Unbelievable3

This is all on Wenger, clearly he doesn't want to sell him to us. I'm actually surprised that we will pay him the same as Rooney. Just can't see Wenger doing it.

Perhaps the club need a lesson in negotiation techniques. Why indicate to Arsenal we are in fact desperate and can't understand why they won't sell to us at the price we have offered. We shoud make them think we will wait until the 31st August and shaft them like City did. SAF stamping his feet is more likely to make Arsenal dig in for a bigger price. Is it the first sign of desperation in that if RVP turns us down SAF will be embarrassed by the growing number of failures in the market

Red Man

Believable7 Unbelievable4

What if, and this is a what if because like everyone else I don't know, Arsenal have already agree a deal with us but to appease their disgruntled fans they asked Utd to say how hard it is to do business with them, they won't talk with us so they can make it looked like they tried to sell abroad but no one wanted and he really wanted to go.

Just a thought.

Tommy

Agree3 Disagree4

As an Arsenal fan I would not be disgruntled by selling you RVP. In 8 years we have got 1 good season out of him and to get 20-25 million for him I would happily drive him to Old Trafford. He is the last of the "negative mentality " players at our club . We already have replacements and like yourselves, with the chances made by us each week , if you cannot score 20-30 goals a season you are probably not that good
Paul Belfast

Agree3 Disagree1

I'm sure you wouldn't be disgruntled, truth be know I'm not a fan of him coming here without upsetting the balance, and leaving other players out. But you - aside there would be plenty of disgruntled Arsenal fans if your club was to sell him to us, and with the amount of back door shenanigans going on in transfers these days, it's not wrong to think that our club is trying to keep us happy the best they can, as are yours.

This is my first post on this sit so don't attack me or anything but I just wanted to point out that as much as I would love to see RVP & Rooney up front it most definitely isn't what we need. One rumour which has gone very quiet is Moussa Dembele of Fulham, good on the ball and has a great left foot! Anyway, I think if Utd made a bid for him I would be very pleased. I think these 'quiet rumours' are the ones that really work out for us. For example, Valencia was one who was slightly linked with us but all the focus was on other players who were targets but look how good Valencia has proved to be. In my opinion Dembele would be a much better buy than RVP who will just be an injury nightmare

Believable8 Unbelievable1

I agree to an extent. I think Dembele would be a good addition to the squad but I still think we might need someone else to fill up the holes in midfield though and I feel RVP should be signed only after we have sorted those problem areas.

I read in the telegraph that the ipo starts trading tomorrow and apparently the interest in the shares is high. I think this ipo is for two reasons the 1st because the glazers require the cash injection to pay off debts that are due to increase(which are their debts not the clubs) and 2nd to get a final set price of what the club is worth. Yes they will also pay some of the debt off but I do not believe it is their no.1 priority. I would also like to point out that the ipo did not guarantee to pay all the money from the shares to reduce debt as reported it just stated that their intention was to do this (clever use of words me thinks i.e I intended to quit smoking but didnt). Bookedredmole

It may even be on deadline day but I think Utd will sign RVP,the obvious game of the fee will carry on but fergie wants him&he also knew City wanted him&even more after Mancini apparent toys out the pram with Marwood of why they hadn't got him.So that extra joy of rubbing city nose in it with there chasin most Utd targets thinking can jus offer more money&jump in. The failure to sign Moura after the long running attempt fergie knows if also didn't get RVP aswell then its gona look silly at Utd&the excuses won't work. I don't think a front two of Welbeck/Rooney is an all out worry for top teams but RVP/Rooney then any team knows they got a problem!

Believable2 Unbelievable1

09 Aug 2012 22:10:43
Really hope Fergie brings in alternative targets, it's getting rather boring now watching good players slip beneath the cracks. I do feel part of the problem is the Glazers but it also lies with the market at current. 40 odd million for a 19 year old? No thanks!

But there are other players out there that would not only improve the squad but possibly force themselves into a constant position in the starting 11.

It concerns me that we are openly looking at attackers when what we really need is another CM option. We are in dire need of somebody who can keep the ball other than Scholesy.

Can't say im not disappointed at Lucas joining PSG but id rather have kept the money if that was how much it would have taken. We have better wide options currently.

My view on RVP? Great player, experienced and deadly. But if we end up payin anythin over 20 mill it would be bad business in my eyes. But that's the only thing that concerns me, his injury record. Oh and Arse!nal are likely to not do business with us.

Why does everyone keep dismissing Kagawa's ability to play on the left of a front 4 ? That is where he played for Borussia Dortmund a lot and he also drifts out there when playing central also. I couldn't see why we couldn't have a front 4 of -

Valencia_____Rooney_____Kagawa
_____________RVP_____________

Therefore we could sell Nani and use the funds to add to what we have available and try and sign Witsel and Dembele.

George

Believable2 Unbelievable1

Well he didn't play on the left.... He played in behind Lewandowski... Gotze played out wide along with either Grobkreutz or Blazsychowksi (excuse the spelling), However he does play wide left for Japan normally in a 4-3-3

everyone is talking about our injury record, which is abysmal in the last couple of years and there we have a suggestion to sell arguably on of our most feared players!

U lot are of your heads if you think we will get RVP they are never going to sell him to us. As I have stated many many times we had done are buying, gone of the days we spend 30mil plus. We have not got the buying power anymore and I think we will be lucky to get top 4 this year. We are weak at the back and in the centre. We all know it but most if you are to blind to see it, it's imbarassing!! I love united and we do wot ever but I'm realistic and u lot need to be.

When you learn to spell embarrassing I will take you serious....... weak in central defence ? We have Vidic, Smalling, Ferdinand, Jones, Evans and carrick all able to play there. We have hardly ever spent big money on players. Top 4 at a struggle? You must be on a wind up we will easily walk into the top 4 the only competition are Man City and Chelsea and that is if Chelsea can gel enough, Arsenal will struggle badly and Liverpool are just not even worth mentioning.

Erm. No they aren't. 'Serious' is an adjective and 'seriously' is an adverb. Adjectives are used to modify nouns and adverbs to modify verbs (hence the name).

Given that 'take' is a verb - you should be using the adverb rather than the adjective.

i reall feel utd will struggle this season, every year im confident we will challenge on all fronts, but for the first time il be glad if we can get 3rd, i can see city and chelsea finishing 1 and 2 with a 10 point gap between us arsenal and spurs. How saf feels our midfield can compete is beyond me, every one says ando will come good he wont, he's useless. Cleverley is a great prospect but that isnt enough. Giggs will be used as a cm but he is way past it, carrick had a good season last year but never takes the game by the scruff of the neck, something we lack. Its sad to have to rely on scholes who is just fantastic. I read of interest in witsel but looks like real madrid have moved ahead of us again, with utd not willing to pay 25m for a player who would bring so much to our midfield. Another summer passes and our midfield will still not be sorted and even more worrying is the fact it looks like there has been no attempt to sort it. Its time to realise the days of utd being able to compete for the best players is over lets hope the days of us competing for honours lasts.

It's official! Citeh and chelski have ruined football. Paying ridiculous money for players such as Barry, Milner, torres. Selling clubs are demanding outrageous fees for average players and all the greedy agents are getting in on this. Even Italian clubs like AC who have always attracted big names are struggling. If something isn't done soon then the game will be an even bigger mess. I really hope this fair play rule works

JaZz {Ed002's Note - Clubs can pay for players how they want - I don't see your problem unless it is penis envy.}

Exactly Ed, the only reason for the sudden ruination of football from the poster is the fact that we don't have the money that other teams have aka jealousy! Nobody cared when we were signing the big players like Rooney and Ferdinand from smaller clubs against their wishes but now the tables are turned "it's not fair" Pathetic! Football is not being ruined, United is being ruined by a family of Americans who don't care about us and only want our wages and for us to tolerate their own intolerance's, this isn't new people, we are all being forced to lose our voices to big corporate machines who wish to rule the world and all it's inhabitants so either speak out against it or roll over and be F$$$ed by the greedy Glazers like the rest of the fools who say we don't need to oust them!

Can people posting stop being so deluded that we have a squad or team capable of challenging for silverware this year. We as it stands have not signed enough in this window and at same time got rid of deadwood in our club. Were not the club we used to and won't ever be again until glazers go or at least debt paid. People thinking that getting RVP and kags is sufficient enough to compete then clearly deluded. It's not just money all top players see that we are not the club or force we once were . For the time being we must try to compete but stand aside coz champions league n premiership will not be coming back to OT for some years now.

Not scouse n no wind up . Yes doom n gloom but you can't be so naive to think we can compete with them n Chelsea for title this season n champions league well let's forget that. We're transforming our team n I can't see us winning league for few years now . Other teams are getting stronger and competition is tougher. I think you could see us drop out of the top four this season with current squad we've got unless newfaces arrive soon.
JUSE

Agree2 Disagree2

Not true at all. United have a chance to win both the PL and CL this year. The problems being talked about are the inability of the club to bring in the elite players that would make these trophies more likely....the current team can win those trophies, but a team with a few improvements would be far more likely to win these competitions as their top competition are all improving through the transfer market.-KG

Agree0 Disagree1

JUSE, so I assume you think Spurs, Arsenal, Chelsea and City will all finish above us? I'll bet you 3.2 trillion pounds that doesn't happen! We finished 19 points ahead of Arsenal, 20 in front of Spurs and 25 ahead of Chelsea. Vidic is back and we've brought in Kagawa yet you think we've got that much worse that we'll finish behind those teams? Amazing

Don't be fooled by the 19 pts difference over Arsenal last season. Arsenal couldn't put a proper team out until the end of October due to injuries

Khedira , Song , Busquets , Yaya , De rossi
these are players that play in the same position as carrick.
now according to me only yaya is an upgrade. others like khedira , de rossi are at par while song , busquets are below carrick
however carrick has the most elusive trophy cabinet
another cdm is not needed as SAF has already stated that the modern game doesnt require a hard tackling player.he also said carrick is the most important man next season
i thus conclude from this that SAF isnt interested in a cdm this summer.plus scholes n anderson n jones can do the job too
SAF has trust in carrick
Since his arrival we have won 4 league titles and a champions league also reached 2 finals of ucl.stats and titles dont lie
after we paid 19.8 mil for him and he was our only marquee signing that summer.2006 i guess

The reason carrick looked 'so good' at centre back is as follows;

1, he was playing against Barca, they are not renowned for aerial balls, he was doing a midfielder job in defence.

2, he had no one to pass back too to play it out for him, so he did it himself and low and behold he was capable.

I like Carrick but he just doesn't do enough with the ability he has. In the Epl he wouldn't be as useful.

Lancashire Senior Cup Final on MUTV and could not believe how much Adnan Janazaj has grown since getting injured in April this is one talented lad and now he is getting taller he will be knocking on the door in 12 months from now
On anither positive note I think it is now time Davide Petrucci was a full time first team member imo he is the best long ball passer behind the ginger prince and has got a hell of a dig on him

I find it hard to believe how a lot of the 'regulars' on this site can call themselves Manchester United supporters. All a lot of them do is slate the team/manager I was always under the impression you were supposed to show your support not criticize everything the players or manager do. SAF has given 25 years of his life to this club only to be slated when he doesn't sign someone who may be world class or who people want him to sign but then you all know better don't you? Go back to playing FIFA or football manager in your bedrooms and leave the guy get on with his job and do what he does better than anyone ever has.
Sorry for the rant and no offence meant to the genuine supporters and eds who make this site worth reading.

Agree4 Disagree1

I find it hard to believe so many supporters think that being a true supporter means blindly agreeing with every move made by the club. A real supporter is both realistic and practical. Just because I think we need to improve and am frustrated at the club's inability to succeed in the transfer market and frustrated with the more defensive posture of the team in recent years doesn't make me any less of a supporter than you are. It'd be great if people would stop accusing anyone who doesn't think everything is perfect as not being true supporters. True supporters want the club to succeed and reach its full potential, and unless you've missed the last few years, you'd agree that we need work to get back to that highest of standards. Healthy criticism is not only ok, but should be expected from supporters who want the best for the club. -KG

Agree3 Disagree0

Jay

Supporting the club does not mean you cannot criticise the players or manager when they disearve it. Fergy is an incredible manager, who is a living legend, but the day we stop holding him to account for poor tactics or decisions is the day he should go. You can't stay at the top if you are overly sentimental.

I'm not suggesting he shouldn't be there... But the day will come eventually! ;)

DodgyBanter

Agree0 Disagree0

The clue is in the name "supporters". You are supposed to support the team.

FredtheRed

Again, people claiming that only they decide what support means and who's a real supporter. Such self-righteous garbage. You can support the team without agreeing with every decision or transfer business. No one on here is hoping the team falters or that SAF leaves (at least most people). But can't one support the team and look at weaknesses and hope to address them? If I was unhappy with the performance after the Everton debacle or the CL disaster, does that make me not a supporter? Can I not question SAF's youth policy the summer when he lets three of our top young players leave? Supporting the club means wanting the best for the club and being loyal to the club. It does not mean agreeing with every move/decision/deal. (This is getting awfully repetitive today) -KG

Since when has SAF ever come out and openly admitted that we have bid for a player. Now its all over the press that we are prepared to pay him 220k per week. However Arsenal are negotiating with other clubs and its out of our hands?? Get real! United dont have the money, they release these storeis to appease the fans and then say 'oh well we tried' Arsenal sold the bluenoses Clichy, Nasri, Toure, Adebayor so i doubt they would have an issue if we offered 20 million for him, especially as they have already replaced him. The issue isnt Arsenal, its our owners. Has anyone thought how we would play if he signed? Rooney, Welbeck + Hernandez (who fergie has already said will be top scorer next year! so he must be planning on using him). Valencia, Young, Nani kagawa? Just where does he fit in?/

If there is money (doubtful) spend it all on a bit of class in the middle and stop putting out all bs in the press. Put up or shut up.

The list is endless of players we have lost out on as there is NO money. Plenty of value in the market.

Who would be everyone's ideal signing before the season begins or most likely before the end of the transfer window.

My ideal signing would be Javi Martinez can play in the defence where we have injury problems at the moment, and can play that midfield holding role. Is strong, good tackler and good passer and only 23, probably could get him for under 30 million too although he's more destined to transfer to another spanish club.

Leaving behind the on-field performances, no one can deny that we are not an elite club when it comes to attracting the best available players. Manchester itself is a negative in most players opinions, and this has to be considered when approaching players. This means we may have to pay more. Throwing a tantrum (SAF) crying about value and prices and so on is a distraction and an excuse by the club. If one player is overpriced, fine, but if every top transferred player is costing a certain amount, then it is no longer overvalued, but accurately valued. SAF, courtesy of the Glazers, can't afford the fair value of these players, and doesn't seem to have the sales pitch to convince them to come anyways. SAF is a legend, and United wouldn't be the club they are today without him. But perhaps he just isn't built to operate in the new football landscape. We can complain about the horrible changes in football economics all we want, but aren't we just protesting through a hunger strike? Are the rules/prices going to change or are we going to starve first? -KG

It is also absurd to blindly support the club 100% without any critical analysis. There's got to be a middle ground, and I keep getting grouped in with people like you when all I'm saying is that we need to acknowledge there are current issues and that there are ways to correct them. -KG

Whats with everyone posting senseless things and doing banter over stupid things? You might just label me as a biased Manchester United fan after reading what I am going to write now but i am just a football fan and facts are not going change, everyone needs to get a life!

Manchester Unitedgot trolled over Hazard and Moura sega? Oh well yes, admitted. But do you actually think they were not able to sign them because there is something wrong with the manager or the club here? The answer is, NO! Problem is with the players. And problem is also with the city Manchester itself. Clubs in cities like London and Paris have got hell lot of money now. Who would want to live a boring life with football alone? These cities have attraction and what not? And then the money they are offering there? If you were between 18-25, youd want the same for yourself! Players need to get a life too. Truly you cant find players like Scholes, Gerrard, Vermalen, Suarez, etc who are still playing with less wages and would never want to leave because they love football and fall for the prestige of the clubs. And as a matter of fact, you hardly find these players now. Players like Hazard, Moura dont do things for football, they do it for themselves.

As for Sir Alex paying odd fee for a few players is concerned, he doesnt pay it from his own pocket! So who else does, the owners from their own pockets despite being in debt? No! Manchester Uniteds revenues are record breaking every year, the money they get from sponsors, media, tickets, biggest stadium in Premier League, all these things bring money to the club and Sir Alex uses the clubs money to bring in the players! And this is exactly what the financial player rules state. I challenge clubs like Chelsea, Manchester City and PSG to do the same. It will take them ages! Manchester City reported a loss of £197millions year ago, and still they spent odd amounts to bring in players! Where did that money come from? These clubs cannot do anything without their sugar daddies.

I do not mean to defend Manchester United in anyway, I do not want to hurt any individuals feelings or views either, I was just trying to make some sense. Dont waste your time and energy by posting stupid things, take it easy. Cheers!

Yeah we missed out on Moura... but I believe we did the right thing by not paying huge amount for agent fee.
If we had paid that I believe every agent would play hardball with us for most of our future transfers unless the player is really really keen to move to us

On the other hand, I think this transfer has really made Neymar's transfer more difficult and interesting... who will be able to afford him now
For sure, santos will demand close to 100m or even more

Credit should go to Liverpool for these huge transfer fees nowadays...

All the players who went for record breaking fee are all really quality players... kaka, ronaldo, zidane, ferdinand to us, berbatov, rooney, zlatan, etc... Whether they succeeded or not is another issue but remember they all are top quality players...

But it still amaze me why Liverpool paid 35m for Andy Carroll... maybe this particular transfer has increased the value of every talent in the world... But I feel pity for Andy Carroll as he did nothing wrong in this transfer

Right it's just a thought...

When watching the match last night, I know it's not their job but Vidic and Ferdinand at the back really struggled at times to play the ball out unless they gave it to Scholes to work his magic (perfectly acceptable.

Obviously for most games I would play our strongest defence with Vidic and Ferdinand, But against the lesser teams in the league e.g.Reading,Swansea at home when the defence will not have to do a lot of work, What would you say to playing Carrick alongside Vidic or Ferdinand, very capable of filling in and doing a good job defensively but on the ball he would have loads of time to pick out a pass and set the game up from the back.

I know he isn't in the same class as Javi Martinez but he does it for Bilbao and he ran the show against us and because he was at centre back we couldn't get to him quick enough. Carrick would be able to pick a pass that the natural centre backs couldn't.

I know it's unlikely but Sir Alex after the game expressed how well he thinks Carrick plays when filling in at centre half

Moura and Hazard were genuine targets that were tramped by clubs that are prepared to pay more money and crazy wages for a 19yr old in Moura's case, and we met the fee and wages of Hazard and he chose London. PSG are paying the agents £6m and the £250,000 a week wages on top of the £35m fee, I wanted him to come but not for that.

Let's say we get RVP what formation would we use?

I am going with the Rooney, Ronaldo and Tevez attack but with the likes of Rooney, RVP and Nani/Young/Welbeck/Chicha.

Then the midfield could consist of 3 men, Rotating around Carrick/Kagawa/Scholes/Valencia/Anderson/Giggs/Clevs.

This would allow us to have free flowing football like back in 2008/2009, of course the players wouldn't stick to their positions like as you saw last night Rooney sometimes went to the left and Young went to the centre, same with Kagawa and Nani.

Against weaker side like Southampton and Norwich I can see us using a formation like this

DeGea
Rafael/Valencia-Vidic-Carrick/Smalling-Evra

Nani-Scholes-Young

Kagawa-RVP-Rooney

And as I have previously said the players would all cover eachother while they attack/defend etc.

I still think we will sign 2 more players. Don't get me wrong I'm not a lover of the glazers but I think there right not paying mouras agent 9m. This is the latest thing with these south American players and different people owning a % of the. There just ripping off the euro teams that are stupid enough to pay them. I'd rather give some of the youth players a chance than some 19yr old,who will cost psg 100m over his contract. Half the people on this site didn't have a clue who he was until last wk. we have signed a brilliant player in kakawa and have vidic and fletcher back plus clevs and Anderson so I'm happy to go with that.

Hazard - fee agreed and likely to join us before Chelsea won Champs League

Moura - fee agreed and by all accounts a medical scheduled then PSG gazzump us

Modric - prob £10m difference in valuation with Spurs so never a go-er inspite of his seemingly perfect fit for us and Fergie's long-time admiration of the player

Van Persie - prob £5m difference in valuation with Arsenal and increasingly feeling this will be another big fish we fail to land.

Last year we had similar tale with Sneijder, Nasri etc.

Our record of trying to land £20m+ players has always been questionable but this weakspot just seems to get worse and worse.

We simply can not profess to be the biggest club in the world if we cant attract star quality and thats what we need to address. I dont always think its down to money either. I think we have an attitude problem when it comes to signing players, i.e. bid £5m+ less than what they are obviously worth as they will want to come to United anyway!

I dont know how we fix it but seems to me we lack the s*** hot negotiators that other teams have.

Real always seem to get there man. Barca dont seem to struggle. Chelsea and City are outpowering us now in terms of attracting bigger names. Shocking!

Halesini

Believable9 Unbelievable4

The problem is a combination of things, less funds for transfers than City, Real, PSG, etc, not prepared to pay as high wages, and of course the rise of agent power. But the fundamental thing we are doing wrong is chasing the wrong type of players.

Players like Hazard, Moura, Aguero, Nasri etc are always going to follow the money. And their clubs are always going to hold out until the big cash arrives. Fergie needs to realise that 9 out of 10 times these guys are going to go for silly money. He seems to be constantly surprised when City, Chelsea and now PSG pay up a shed load of money for young lads, but this is the way the top end of the market has worked for the last number of years.

As a club we need to acknowledge that we can't compete for players like Moura. Their clubs will always hold out for a huge offer and let's face it there are enough clubs out there who will put up these offers. We need a strategy that focuses our attention on more achievable targets. We need to accept that we are no longer a heavy hitter in the market, and focus our energy on targets we can afford.

Danny Pughnited

Agree4 Disagree0

In all fairness to aguero he took a pay cut to join city with lucas i always thought that his agent would be in the way of the transfer for example PSG got the dea done within a couple of days and we spent weeks taking to sao paulo and his agent cause they always wanted it there way keep until the brazil league is over to jan and even more money

Agree0 Disagree1

Aguero is on close to £300k a week at City so don't talk bobbins lad. The Moura deal was all about the cash, whoever met the agent's demands got the players. Simple really.

Aguero did not take a pay cut to join City. He is their highest paid player and the reason that no other club would touch him last summer was because of his wage demands.

First time poster...

Watching the game last night and we continue to play 4-4-2. I know he got Welbeck/Rooney to drop in and help and the same with Kagawa but I really think a change of shape is needed if we want to beat the top teams in Europe this coming season.

I know it's all talk at the minute but lets just say IF van persie came to the club this summer do you think this could allow us to play 4-3-3 this season. This would maybe mean playing Rooney wide left or not in at all but I fell when we play the shape he get's isolated and isn't the best at holding the play up. When you look at Van Persie he does it week in week out at Arsenal and he would be devastating with Rooney but also would be great in the new shapes teams are starting to play more frequently with one striker.

P.S also feel Welbeck could do this job aswell as he did for 20 minutes of the second half last night before he made way.

Believable6 Unbelievable2

Well I've firmly stood by the opinion we were done after Kagawa and Powell. Though, I will admit one thing - I don't think, anymore, that the Moura interest or RVP interest is to appease fans.

I do believe there is/was a genuine interest in both but while we did well to not buckle to Moura's ridiculous demands, I still firmly believe we do not have the money to spend more than £20m more this summer.

And if RVP doesnt transpire, we won't spend that. Gutted.

We may sign RVP and/or others, we may not. Just wait until the end of the month to come out with the Fergie's lost it/ we have no money/ it's all an attempt to please the fans and we have no real intent to sign the big players drivel. If we do sign RVP for example, a lot of people on here are going to look very, very silly. RVP goals and assists since joining arsenal.

07-08 9 goals 5 assists
08-09 20 goals 15 assists
09-10 10 goals 9 assists
10-11 22 goals 7 assists
11-12 37 goals 15 assists

I cant wait for deadline day, I think there will be so many dealings going on and I think this is the day we would see RVP join us.

Arsene is going to play hardball for as long as possible but surely he cant hold on forever as RVP will be able to walk for free next summer. They would be crazy to turn down £20m!

I also think we will all get a nice suprise in the shape of a class midfielder who may well be Modric. Real seem to have turned their attentions, we have missed out on Moura so we have money and Modric will surely have enough player power to force a move even if Levy is being fustratingly stubborn.

Deadline day Modric and RVP anyone? I still think RVP is a gamble though...

1redarmy

Believable0 Unbelievable3

I think we have RVP on board, but still yet to agree a deal with Arsenal. I think we are playing hardball, perhaps offered around £15m.

Sydney!

Agree1 Disagree3

How many times has playing hardball in recent years worked? Just pay the club what he is worth. EPL leading goal scorer, consistant scorer, and best player at the club by a mile IMO. He is easily worth 25. We were going to shell out 30 mil for an unproven 19 year old trickster. We had no problem shelling out 30 mil for Berbatov in 08/09, and RvP is twice the player Berba is. At 29, give the man a three or four year contract, he'll score and assist and help us to title no. 20, 21 and maybe even a champions league trophy.

----------De Gea----------
-Rafa-Smalls-Vida-Evra-
-----Carrick-Clevs--------
-Tony-----Kags-----RvP-
---------Rooney---------

I don't think he would be wasted out left, as he can play up top, in the hole, and out left. Rotate Nani, Young, Welbeck, and Chica in the attacking front 5 and i think we will be able to not only cope with the various cups and competitions, but win multiple.

Cheers,
Sparty On

Agree2 Disagree1

"I think we are playing hardball, perhaps offered around £15m. Sydney! "

I think you're right, that's exactly why its stalling... arsenal won't want to sell him cheap, apart from anything they will want to 'justify' it, to keep the fans happy with as much as they can get.

Whether they would risk letting rvp walk for free next summer, I doubt it- but they are not short of money (tight fisted though) and only paid just over 2mil for rvp... so we're see.

We play hard ball and spend 3 week trying to get RVP for as cheap as pos only for city to sell dzeko and give arsenal exactly what they want.

Jred, that's why I think we have RVP on board as we would be playing a dangerous game if he was open to moving elsewhere. According to most of the papers this morning and taking into considerations Fergie's comments last night things haven't really progressed on the RVP front - We are extremely interested but Arsenal are unwilling to budge.

They are willing to let him go for 20m to other other team but want 25m for us - this is the problem United always have, as soon as we have an interest the value of a player goes up 5-10m just because its us.

I for one want RVP at the club as i believe he will improve our team - Rooney and RVP front line would be brilliant IMO

The next step i believe is in RVP's hands, if he wants to join he should come on and demand the transfer and put the pressure on Arsenal if not i can see this going all the way down to August 31st.

I wonder how long fergie will wait for his man? The lucas transfer saga is now over so are the funds there to use for the Van Persie transfer or someone else?

I don't even know why he tried to sign Moura if im honest we don't need wide players.
Fergie has completely missed the boat here, we need central midfielders and should of been concentrating on the likes of Moutinho, strootman, Witsel etc.
I can't see us signing anyone else, maybe RVP so once again Paul Scholes will play a 30 games season and Ryan Giggs will get more games than he should do and drive me insane with his sh*te passing!
Anderson will be injured as usual, Flether may not come back again because of his condition.
This leaves us with Cleverley who is injury prone and has proved absolutely nothing at premiership level and Micheal Carrick who is now just a setady player who does a good job at best.

So Moura's agent has said that a deal was done with United but in the last seconds, PSG made a deal that Moura ( His Agent ) Preferred and now we have lost another high rated youngster who will not excel in his career because he is in the french league.

People should stop blaming us for this, it's all about money and has been for a long time now. The most loved sport in the world is now a business, it kills me to think that the days of players wanting to join a club because they love that club have gone, they don't care if it's the EPL or the Mexican League, which ever team offers the most £££ gets the player.

But a lot of you will now agree with me here but this is when we should go for players like Gaitain, a lot of you say he isn't good enough etc etc. BUT he has repetitively said he would love to join his favorite club in the world, Manchester United, he doesn't care about the cash, he cares about us.

RVP is going to stay with arsenal and sign a 3 year contract in next week. He has no problem staying with arsenal as long as he sees quality improvment in the statring 11 not talented kids.. he has held the club to ransom for their own good and wenger has respected his view by adding experience quality. They are working on 2 more signings in defence area. so he is happy now and will perform u turn. rooney has same things in mind a year ago but he has been fooled in my eyes accuratly by utd board. and we are also witnessing that after a dreadful season, ( dont come with lost on goal difference stuff, talk abt performances in UCL, europa league, even league cup and fa cup) we as well as some concern squad members are being fooled by wasting time on some heavy signings which we knew we wont finalise due to some unacceptable demands( which other clubs are capable to meet). lucky to snap up kagawa for just 17m but its player who want to come in because of united' s huge image in his home country. he is star there now ( player himself have admited this a while ago). in honesty ,every fool nd wise who support united worlcd wide knows the problem area and where are we trying to get " STARS " ? my dear fellow poster sydney and lot others crying to see LB position sorted as well as some steal in midfield with creativity factor.. but we are killing time so SAF can say ( on glazer behalf ofcourse) deal are hard to complete in this days market. ( i smell new line for "value in the market")
let me make myself clear, i m not crying for a multi million signing. but i want proper attention to our problem area doesnt mater if answer is 8m to 10 m signings. ( he should get chance also above our jam legged oldies to prove not odd appearance, why i am saying this is we are not buying proven top class as " market is crazy" than we must trust youth system more or scouting system more as its only way to get player on cheap with quality, i dont fire pogba for leaving.. he never got proper chance)
last thing RVP will not join and Fergie has no other planings either. as soon as season starts and couple of fine games and only we will say who needs this and that. i have witnessed this last summer in case of snijder. AND our board wants this only.. and our respected SAF is helping them dont know willingly or unwillingly.

please post this ed..i know its long but its mine after a long quite time just watching whats happening..

We’ve seen it all this morning (or last night) and it is looking more likely.

As I said with the Podolski shirt number yesterday and with Fergie’s comments, this morning I’ve heard a little more. Supposedly the medical has been done in Germany with Arsenals consent. RvP’s representatives have discussed and agreed terms with Arsenals consent. We have an unconditional bid sat there for £15m which hasn’t been rejected.

So it’s a case of who trembles first. SAF knows AW has to sell (no point getting nothing for a player!) and thinks £15m is a fair price (to which I agree…I would even go to £18m…£20m at an extreme push). AW is pumping faxes out to every club saying “Come buy RvP for £15m outside the EPL” but his agent is saying “Sorry, he wants to go to Utd”. If this doesn’t go to deadline day, I would be as surprised as I wouldn’t now…expect something before the start of the season!

I for one would like to see that as a starting line up! Young and Toni feeding balls into Roo and RvP? Ouch!

SB.

Believable0 Unbelievable1

Why would the medical b done already when the fee hasnt even been agreed? Arsenal dont have to sell, if they keep rvp they have a chance of winning trophies with their new signings, so they can get money from winnings trophies.

Agree3 Disagree0

I think this is exactly what is happening, I think we have had RVP on board for months. Going back to SAF saying that he nearly bought him when he was at Feyenoord. I think he as agreed terms with us and we have offered around £15m and we will see who breaks first. If we have RVP fully committed to us, then we will get him cheap because Arsenal will not give up £15m.

Ed002, do you have any info on this? Thanks.

If SAF has 40m....Muniain(30-35m) and Oviedo/Izzaguire/Cissokho (5-10m)

Muniain would really change our game. Mixture of him, Kagawa, Rooney, Toni, Welbeck would be brilliant! Of course money would be a problem as Bilbao want around 40m...If not Muniain then Gaitan...

As for LB...we all watched the game and we saw that we need a good cover for Evra!

Fergie wants RVP...I hope we can sign someone young and creative like Muniain beside RVP...

Sorry for bad English :)

Crikey there are some doom merchants on here. Clearly, SAF is still, looking to strengthen - Moura was a target, RVP still is. However...DDG has a solid year under his belt and will be even better, Vidic is back having missed most of the season, Kagawa is proven class in a strong league, Powell is a very bright prospect, Scholes may only play 20 games but he's an option from day 1 this year, and we have a few youngsters ready and hungry for a chance. There's players I don't rate (Young, Hernandez) but everyone has their favourites and irritants. 1 or 2 more quality signings and we are good to go.

Why don't we (Man Utd fans) donate some minimum amount (say £10) towards our clubs debt/transfer? we have a huge fan base so it might impact in a big way... maybe i m so stupid :)

This has been brought up before and it would take about 90p each to get us out of debt. They would get out of debt just by putting a pot at the gates which fans could put a quid or two in each game and we would be fine by next season but that is not the way to do things mate.

I would happily give a £5 note to get us out of debt.

The list of Real Madrid players, who specialize in the central midfield playmaking role! With Luka Modric most likely to join the list too, Madrid would be looking to offload a few players! Sahin already is linked with a move to the Premier League. United could even do with a cheeky bid for Kaka! If they manage to persuade him to reduce his wage demand a bit, to keep him in a top league, brilliant team and train in state of art facilities! Sami, Ozil, Diarra aren't bad options either!

Well there we have it boys and girls. No more signings like I said. Moura,s people were always going to follow the most money and RVP will be joining Citeh (arsenal are talking to other clubs, exactly the same line he used last year with Nasri). Let's stop kidding ourselves, it's all about who is going to pay the most. Van Persie or Moura had no burning ambition to join us, the only world class person I know who has that at the minute is Usian Bolt.

Talk to anybody out there the only 2 players of ours they would want is Vidic and Rooney. We as the real fans are going to have to get behind our club and the players who cross the White line. The plus at the moment is we have not been made weaker over the summer and we are stronger for next year with return of Vidic.

Has it crossed anyone elses mind that we are just declaring interest in the likes of Hazard, Moura, Van Persie etc... to show willing more than anything else?
& possibly to create a buzz to sell more shares for this IPO thing?

The only reason I ask, is because we never appear to meet clubs valuations! Arsenal WANT £20 million for RVP, he's their player, they're in the driving seat. If Fergie wants him that badly - offer the asking price!! Same applies for Moura! We tip toed about for 2 months! PSG got things wrapped up in about 3 days from start to finish.

It's becoming very frustrating listening to the same old excuses...

Believable2 Unbelievable2

The agent has already said a deal was all but signed for Moura before PSG stepped in. They are owned by billionaire Arabs who dont even blink at paying the agents fees, ridiulous wages etc etc.
Of course we tip toed, they were looking for a very high fee + agents fees so we had to negotiate. This isnt Football Manager you know, get in the real world. Im as dissapointed as anyone we have missed out on some big signings the last few years, but in todays football world and the cases of the last few months it IS understandable, we are missing out as we dont have a bottomless pit of money

Also, PSG can't even fill their own stadium. They have no support overseas. The French League makes little in comparison to the big 3-4. SO my question is how are they in compliance with the FFP rules? They're spending like City and earning like Leeds. -KG

Believable2 Unbelievable0

Because action cannot be taken until 2014/15 at the earliest. They are obviously investing in top talent to increase other revenue streams so they can break even by 2015. But to attract top players they have to pay very high transfer & agent fees and pay obscene wages. Otherwise they cannot attract the players. Ibrahimovic is on something like £17m a season. No self sufficient club can compete with this.

Sydney!

Syd, there's no way PSG get to United/Real/Barca revenues within that time frame. So eventually either FFP will fall on their heads or it will be shown to be a weak regulation with no teeth. -KG

It's not about Moura and its not about RVP. It's about United, SAF, Gill and the Glazers being forced to choose new players from the leftovers from the clubs willing to pay market price. The problem isn't that we desperately needed Moura or RVP, but the trend that when we do need world class players we cannot get them. Add this to SAF desire to play like Mourinho with everyone behind the ball and little attacking threat, and I am not an optimistic United supporter right now. Something drastic needs to change as this is getting EMBARRASSING!!-KG

Believable12 Unbelievable12

I will never ever ever once be embarrassed to support the club I love. You are a joke.

No, you're not optimistic, you're confused. We don't have a billionaire owner, deal with it. And what's with the 'everyone behind the ball' nonsense? Support your team or find another club, idjit

Agree0 Disagree0

One bad season and no ridiculously priced signings and people are going crazy. just hold on to your hats!

Agree0 Disagree0

KG, it's not market price though is it? If it was market price United, Chelsea, Inter & Real Madrid would have agreed a deal for him. What he went for was well above his market value. The frustrating thing is we probably would have got him if PSG hadn't come in for him. PSG have unlimited amounts of cash.

Like Danny Pughnited has said I think we should be targeting European players who are much more achievable. You cannot blame the manager for wanting the best though. I haven't seen a great deal of this Isco fella, but someone like him may be a good idea and that would leave us being able to afford Modric or Witsel too.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

Syd

I don't disagree, but here's another way to look at it - why don't we stop chasing these players?

We are wasting entire summers, chasing players that even most fans have a strong feeling we have no chance of getting.

if agents are that big an issue - why doesn't Gill simply say "Bye" the second a greedy agent starts his antics, and mvoe onto a new target who is more accessible?

RED_SKY

Agree0 Disagree0

RED_SKY, Friday we were very close to sealing the deal, just needed a signature, but PSG came in and blew us out of the water. The cash is there, but we need to get transfers wrapped up quicker. Just pay the agent fees, even if it's just for this summer.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

GDS- It's embarrassing when year after year we move for players only to be rejected. Like at your school dances when you stood in the corner as the girls approached your friends to dance. So maybe we start moving for affordable players like Liverpool and Arsenal do, but how has that gone for them? No one has argued with my points that we seem to be unable to bring in world class transfers and that we seem to have become far more cautious in our style of play. And for pointing this out I get accused of either not being a real supporter or being a Liverpool fan. You can support a club and be critical of problems. That's because I want the best for the club and think that we can fix these problems. The rest of you putting me down seem to be oblivious to serious issues we have, and think that only people who naively ignore any problems are true supporters. And I'm not saying we should have gone through with the Moura deal, but I am pointing out a trend in which we have struggled to bring in the players SAF feels we need. Should I be banned from OT forever because I'm aware and frustrated by certain problems within the club? Do I lose my membership bc I don't agree that a midfield of Scholes/Carrick/Anderson will be enough to compete for the CL? Im sick and tired of making valid points and getting yelled at bc I'm not spouting how we are the greatest team on earth when at the moment we are not. I post ideas and thoughts I believe can help us get back to being the best team in the world. I support United always and forever, but that doesn't mean I ignore any negatives.....-KG

Agree0 Disagree0

Syd, how do we turn around our current transfer problems? Granted we don't have big oil money, but surely there has to be some ways to get one or two of these deals done. This isn't aimed at Lucas, but at the past few years where this has become a trend. I keep trying to think of solutions, others seem to prefer to ignore the fact there's a problem, but I was hoping you might find the rational ground and start a discussion that stays in problems and solutions rather than people yelling over "true supporter" and "fake supporter/glory hunter". Thx. -KG

Manchester United's pursuit of Lucas Moura is over after the 19-year-old Brazilian agreed a four-and-a-half year deal with Paris Saint Germain.

But last time I checked Ive been right every single time. Another goalless performance, another match in which SAF looks like he's either disinterested or out of ideas. If this continues into the PL season we won't last long in title contention. If you want blind faith go join a church (where any critical analysis is blocked). I have faith in SAF during the season, most of the players, and the best fanbase in sport. But should I have faith in our transfer policy in recent years? GDS- It's not about preseason, its about last season too.
