Did anyone notice we have 7 strikers on tour and only 8 midfielders ??

1 or 2 will surely be sold or loaned out on return surely.

What do ye guys think ??

Red Knight. {Ed036's Note - There is definitely a huge imbalance. I suppose SAF might be using the tour as an 'audition' process for the forthcoming season (mostly for Diouf/Macheda I reckon), but a midfielder purchase looks inevitable regardless.}

Evening.

I would like to make a quick comment. I won't bang on, but a lot of you lads seem to think Henderson and Adam are "average" signings?

Young is very average in my humble opinion. Very greedy and no end product. Considering he is a winger, he doesn't do much crossing. More like cut inside and have a crack at goal himself. Jones is a good player, but by no means the best around. Infact, the kids a long way from being the finished article.

Two bob Young, and a promising prospect who needs to be nurtured and realise his potential. Hardly worth gloating about.

Thanks in advance for your kind words.

Nasri will join City, his comments about moving to win trophys i think is to convince us that its not because city is paying him huge wages that he will go there , however we all know that it is
Plus Scholes made a comment recently saying if it was down to trophys there is only one team I think he knows and Fergie that he has no intention of joining utd.
I feel we we go after Sneidjer next week.
It will take at least 35M to get him tho

I tell you what, with Roma signing up alot of really good young players I will be watching them closely next year in the Europa League to see how they go. I know a couple are untried in Italy and there are a few on here that slate the league but watching Lamela, Bojan, Angel and Nego plus any others they get could prove a change in theme to sticking with the old guard in Totti etc.

Reason i'm mentioning it is I have always liked Bojan and seen a little of Lamela and he looks exciting so could be possible targets in 2-3 years?

Provisional tour squad named
United will take a 21-man squad to the United States on Monday with six other players set to join the pre-season tour at a later date.

Summer signing Ashley Young will fly out in the initial squad, but other new acquisitions David de Gea and Phil Jones will link up later due to their extended seasons with Spain and England respectively at the recent Under-21 European Championships. The trio have all had their squad numbers confirmed for the new 2011/12 season - de Gea will wear 1, Jones will be 4 and Young succeeds Paul Scholes in the number 18 shirt.

The Tour 2011 squad is provisional, subject to change in the event of training injuries:

Goalkeepers: Anders Lindegaard, Ben Amos, Sam Johnstone
Defenders: Rafael, Fabio, Nemanja Vidic, Jonny Evans, Patrice Evra, Rio Ferdinand
Midfielders: Michael Carrick, Nani, Anderson, Ryan Giggs, Ji-sung Park, Gabriel Obertan
Forwards: Mame Biram Diouf, Federico Macheda, Wayne Rooney, Michael Owen, Dimitar Berbatov, Ashley Young.

The following players will join the tour after their agreed leave time: Chris Smalling, Danny Welbeck, Tom Cleverley, David de Gea, Phil Jones, Javier Hernandez.

United will play five matches in the US, starting with New England Revolution in Boston on Wednesday night, 13 July. Every match will be shown live on MUTV and MUTV Online, and ManUtd.com reporters Nick Coppack and Gemma Thompson will be blogging throughout each day from their arrival in the States on Monday evening UK time.

here's a game that could be fun. Say you won 100m on the Euro lottery and you decide to buy one player for United who would it be and how much do you think he'd cost(Fee and wages over the length of his contract) so in effct how much of YOUR money would you be willing to give to the club and which player would you gamble YOUR money on? (must be realistic with your valuations of both fee and wages)

Mine would be Vidal who'd cost around 15m and with wages of 75k a week over a 5 year contract coming to 19.5m so a total cost of my money of 34.5m.

so who would you sign?(eds anyone)

Shappy {Ed036's Note - Owen Hargreaves on a pay-as-you-play deal. I'd probably never lose any money...}

sneijder will be the closest we can ever get to the ginger prince

dear mr dj
in actual fact, you have proved ngiak's point to a T
all these players were "best" only in the italian league
did they prove themselves anywhere else?
how do you think they will perform in a much more physical league like the EPL and the german league?
the fact that there are so many """outstanding""" midfielders in the italian league just shows that its MUCH EASIER to be outstanding in a poor league
any of them came here and did well? yes? no?
remember the BEST PLAYER in the italian league who once joined us a few years ago?
a certain JUAN SEBASTIAN VERON? jogs the memory?
he was a fantastic player but for man united and chelsea... in the EPL... well, we all know the story, dont we?

The following players have had their squad numbers confirmed by manutd.com:

De Gea-1

Phil Jones-4

Ashley Young-18

Young's number is a surprise to me, and whilst some may say numbers are insignificant, the fact that he will now wear Scholes' 18 shirt, a shirt now synonymous with the centre of midfield in man utd, it may give some infication as to where he will be deployed for next season. Perhaps we won't be bringing in a new creative midfielder?

Speaking to the club's official website, Wenger said: "Our position is always the same, we want to keep Cesc and I will fight as hard as I can to keep him.

"Samir Nasri is exactly the same. We will do everything we can to keep him."

I think Doris Wenger's heads in the clouds, he's completely missing the point that they both want out for trophy's.... Come on Gill/Fergie lets get Nasri in.... HERBIE

Cant wait 4 the new season to begin, I really think De Gea, Jones and Young will improve our squad, Sad to see sheasy and wes going, gr8 servants to the club, Maybe 1 more signing and we'll be ready to take home number 20 imo and if i had a choice of Nasri, Sniejder or Modric id probably go 4 Nasri, But somehow i think Wenger will do everything to keep him, Maybe get him next year on a free ?? Also hope we give cleverley, pogba, morrison, diouf etc a chance next season. Anyone know whats happening with macheda and welbeck? Will they be loaned out or get a chance next season? thanks

Now if you subtract the amount of wages paid to the new players from the amount United will probably save from the outgoing players, Manchester United will be saving £165,000 a week or £205,000 a week if Darron Gibson departs. """
dear sir
if you look at the saving in salaries
plus the transfer fees for people like ajose, oshea, brown and possibly gibson, obertan and berbatov
overall we may actually have broken even in our "transfers" this window
these guys are shrewd businessmen, they know what they are doing.
although ngiak is in admiration of how they manage to do it..

Why cos we haven't bought the important ones yet And we ain't got them in before pre season

Penguin gan you r nuts if u think Parker is worthy of the shirt"""
dear sirs
you guys have brought up a good point
why is there an assumption that a 8 million parker will do a worse job at man united than a 45 million sneijder earning about 200k a week?
or even a sanchez on a huge 40 million fee and big wages will do better than a nani or young?
what guarantees that this huge fee will translate to performing well in the hugely physical and mantally demanding EPL?
dont forget they are from the italian, super relaxed, fall when the wind blows, no need to rush if the ball is in midfield, league.
ngiak may not have all his screws in place
but he rather have parker who is proven in our league and does a decent job for the national team AND IS THE PLAYER OF THE YEAR for this country.
he certainly deserves to wear the shirt compared to other fancy "big" value, "big" names.

Afternoon All,

So we are off on the tour Monday, can't see anybody being signed before then, so transfers coming in might be finished. Mind you we haven't had the business is done for the summer press conference yet, but that might come on the tour.

See the neighbours have sold the naming rights of the City of Manchester Stadium, with a 20m sweetener going to the council to keep their mouths shut. Got to laugh at a club that claims to be the manifestation of everything mancunian, selling the Manchester and City out of a stadiums name to be replaced with the arabic word for United. You really couldn't make them up. Mind you for a club that threw their so called holy ground to one side, Maine Road, to go and play in a council donated stadium, what does that tell you about their moral fibre.

Enough about them clowns anyway, looking forward to the new season now be interesting to see the formation, I would like to see another striker brought in or maybe take an early gamble on Welbeck, still think the Pea would be more lethal used as an impact sub, got found out early on for me in CL final

All good anyway

Manchester United Players Wages
Manchester United have been busy this transfer market, with incoming and outgoing players, all of whom command a certain wage, so out of interest, I did a bit of research. I wanted to find out how much Manchester United will be saving a week from the sales of players like Wes Brown and John O'Shea to Sunderland as well as the retirement of Edwin van der Sar, Paul Scholes and Gary Neville and the release of Owen Hargreaves.

Firstly may I start my saying that these are all reported figures in the media of how much the individual players are earning/will earn per week. The outgoing players:

Edwin van der Sar; £90,000 a week
Wes Brown; £50,000 a week
John O'Shea; £50,000 a week
Owen Hargreaves; £75,000 a week
Paul Scholes; £60,000 a week
Gary Neville £60,000 a week
Possibly Darron Gibson on £40,000 a week
TOTAL: £385,000 a week (or including the departure of Gibson to Sunderland, £425,000 a week)

Now onto the arrivals at Manchester United so far, which have included Ashley Young, Phil Jones and David de Gea who cost United just under £50 million in transfer costs.

David de Gea; £70,000 a week
Phil Jones; £50,000 a week
Ashley Young; £100,000 a week
TOTAL: £220,000 a week

Now if you subtract the amount of wages paid to the new players from the amount United will probably save from the outgoing players, Manchester United will be saving £165,000 a week or £205,000 a week if Darron Gibson departs.

This leaves quite a large amount for Manchester United to work with in their search to replace Paul Scholes. Wesley Sneijder is apparently after around £200,000 a week, which is quite excessive, even for football, while United's other main target, Arsenal's Samir Nasri is reportedly asking for just over £100,000. Through these savings mentioned, United could afford either players wages easily. {Ed001's Note - those figures are a little low I believe, the outgoings I mean, I am sure Neville was on a lot more then 60k.}

What I don't get is- why do we need a central midfielder? young, park, jones or cleverley can come into CM. what we need is a backup striker because welbeck, diouf and macheda need to be gently moved up into the team. rooney makes the goals, and hernandes scores them, so we need someone in between to play if a striker gets injured. hulk would be nice, aguero(but he is a bit expensive), benzema, higuain or gyan would do the job.

Dont sound like we r willing to pay what it takes
We need em in for pre season and tour surely thats worth paying bit extra
Got same feeling as pre summers that no value will come out"""
dear unnamed sir
this is exactly what ngiak feared
the rainfishtrombone circus is at it again
after working so hard these few weeks after the window opened
and spending 50 million, there are still criticisms
will sneijder or sanchez work well in the EPL?
they come from a league that james' bond's charlie adam will be the best player in the league by a mile.
what guarantees do you have sir that paying 40 plus million on the like or even pastore (guess which league HE plays in?) will do us a job?
to be honest, as ngiak has mentioned many a time here
he rather have PARKER to do that job
proven, good, experienced, and very very cheap (1/4 of the price)
no value?
de gea is one of the best in the world, 20 years old and replaces the ONLY regularly playing player to leave the club.
the rest are NOT regulars last season when we won the EPL and runners up in the CL.

dear unnamed sir
ngiak is even more confused after your post
where, when and who quoted that nani is being sold/ used as a part exchange?
could you help ngiak clarify this?
another example of the power of a suggestion on this site
and suddenly its almost a given?
it seems, to ngiak at least, that there could also be a POSSIBILITY, that we have not bid for both.

If anyone has the access to ESPN tonight then have a watch of the Chile v Uruguay give you all a chance to see Sanchez and Vidal in action.

I still think that if we were to get Nasri for around £20m and Vidal for around £13m our CM issues will be sorted out and for the cost of Mods or Sneijder.

Really think it's a good bet that nasri will join united... Evra been tapping him up as we all know from before once united players start saying we should sign a player we usually do eg CR7... if there was any truth to these medicals could nasri maybe of been one only for he extended his holidays... He said he wants the chance to win titles and be considered for Ballon D'or and who better to join that united most successful team in English history
