You know what's strange? A player (Muller) gets linked to us in the press, and suddenly he's exactly what we need.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - I've often wondered that same thing GAGUS, great minds think alike eh?}

Spot on G.A.G.U.S.

I'm getting a bit bored with the endless list of names being thrown about, many of who are not required. Although I see this morning we are linked with Alex Song, who is just what we need.

Agree0 Disagree0

Disagree there GAGUS. every world class available player is exactly what we need. We did not need Mata, nor did we need Van Persie, but they turned out all right.

Same goes for Muller. He would offer us a better option than pretty much anyone we have on the right.

Let me explain myself. We need a central defender more than a winger, but I'd rather have Muller than Gaitan. We also need a central midfielder more than a winger, but I'd rather have Reus than Song or even Carvalho.

We need Muller because he is a magnificent player, not because we need a winger more than other areas on the pitch.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ill be honest, I really dnt rate muller that highly, to me he seems to not have a set position. I get he's playing for a very good team on bayern but I dnt think we need him.

Agree0 Disagree0

Mata hasn't turned out alright Mick, major flop thus far (nice guy, intelligent but hasn't delivered), but I agree we need wholesale changes and upgrades across the board aside from upfront and in goal.

Agree0 Disagree0

5 goals and 4 assists in 13 games for a flagging team while often being played out of position. Yeah, massive flop.

Mata hasn't played at his best but he has hardly flopped. If he is given a central birth next season behind RVP he will be fantastic.

Agree0 Disagree0

Mata has been our best player in half the games he's played in (has had a few quiet games too), far from a flop tbh.

Agree0 Disagree0

Stats mean jack Danny. They don't tell you who we played, who else played, what else he did. Mata hasn't played well, certainly nowhere near the fee we paid. Fellaini has played a couple of good games, but he has been slaughtered, both have not done as well as expected to be fair.

Mata didn't galvanise the team and that is what £37m was meant to do. We are crying out for pace and he is slow! I like him but it was a rash purchase by a desperate man, why would Mourinho sell him as well?

Agree0 Disagree0

CTR, Muller is technically and physically rather average, but he is smart. Incredibly smart. He knows what to do, where to do it, and when to do it.

Such players are rare. Lampard made a career out of it. Busquets is in a similar situation. Compare that to natural talents, who lack the necessary IQ to be able to speak their own mother language ( or any sort of language in all likelihood ) and tend to go around chasing the ball when they are playing as the lone striker in a system, and I know who I would chose.

Beast, Fellaini is a flop. Mata is not. He has been pretty decent, having both good and bad games, most bad games coming on the right wing. Fellaini has been horrible as a defensive midfielder, box to box midfielder, and as second striker when employed there. See the difference?

Agree0 Disagree0

Why would Mourinho sell him? Because he didn't fit his system. Before that he was player of the season at Chelsea for two years running. He didn't turn crap overnight, he just isn't want Jose is looking for in a player, same reason we will see Oscar and Hazard leave Chelsea over the next few years.

Mata has done relatively well at United, considering where he has been played and the state of our performances. I don't know how you expect a player to galvanise a team when he's played out of position. To say his performances are on par with Fellaini's is just wrong. He has scored and created, and in general has had a positive impact.

He doesn't have much pace but he is hardly a slow player. He is very quick in possession, and his talent lies in moving the ball quickly and incisively. When we have better wing players and he is playing behind a top striker like RVP, who stretches a defence, he will get back to his best.

Agree0 Disagree0

Astonishing post by the Beast. Mata is world-class. He has been far from being a flop. Jose doesn't do flair, he does workhorses. Chelsea have gone from an exciting team to watch under Benitez (of all managers) with Hazard, Mata, Oscar terrorising defences to arguably the most boring side in the league. Like Danny said Oscar and Hazard will probably be sold within a couple years and replaced with more defensive midfielders :)

Agree0 Disagree0

So is Danny wellbeck mick, tbh I rate wellbeck just as much as Muller in terms of influence and consistentency in game

Agree0 Disagree0

Lets be honest mata hasn't played as well as rooney this year a player who gets slated as not good enough and should be sold on this site on a daily basis .
a bit like the kagawa situation who as been poor for 2 year now but can do no wrong its excuse after excuse for him

Agree0 Disagree0

Mata to be fair has gone from being Chelsea's most loved player to being dropped, then being isolated, then sold. He joins a MU team that were in disarray whilst being played out of position. He's had a big season and not had five minutes to settle. Still he's managed five goals and four assists in 13 starts. He's a terrific player and will be much better next season I'm sure.

Agree0 Disagree0

If you stuck messi in the team we had this season he wouldn't look like a world beater either, doesn't matter how good the player is, without some quality around them they will struggle.mata did ok with the lack of quality around him.

We are being linked with lots of players, we need defenders midfielders, wingers, we might get a kroos or a reus, players that can play good football, they can pass the ball take on players and score a few goals for us. Now I think any team no matter what level need a workhorse in the middle of the field with these boys, a player that can break up play, put it good hard tackles and get up and down the field, who out there do ye think can do this job for us?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

09 May 2014 21:56:51
Why are we linked to so many strikes.? Who's leaving? Rvp, rooney welbeck or the little pea

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think chicarito will leave and slight possibility of rooney going too.Personally I wouldn't mind rooney going as I think he is not as technically good as some would have you believe.If he plays as the most forward striker for me he is one of the best, he will get goals, the problem is he likes to play in between the lines drifting too far back taking other players positions leaving up front short which for me is another reason we are easy to defend against.If van gaal does become Manchester United's manager he will play van persie as the main man usually playing just the one upfront, like I said rooney isn't technically good enough to play behind, we have mata, kagawa or januzaj for that.As for chicarito he hasn't had enough playing time and it would be the same next season.And with one only being played upfront we don't need that many forwards.Welbeck will be given another season to impress, we have young james wilson(high hopes for him).I also know van persie is injury prone but would rooney want to play second fiddle?if so I'm all for keeping him, its just I don't think he would.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'd be amazed if Rooney & the Pea are still here come the start of the season - but RVP, Welbeck & Wlson with Keane/Henriques as emergency will be sufficient for me as we have so many other critical positions to fill this summer. Best to focus on midfield and defence.

Agree0 Disagree0

Beast, good point man and solid reasoning. You would be "amazed" if one of our players who was given a 5 year contract a couple of months ago is still with us next season. I am sure you are amazed Rooney has spent 10 years with us, let's hope Wazza continues to amaze you ;-) . H Y P E R B O L E

Deeps.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ohh and god help us if Bambi is our back up plan. We are not playing ice hockey mind you. I think Welbeck will and should be moved on. Not good enough

Hi what do you guys think about sami khadira as an option. I mean he is back in training with two games 2 go and may evn play in champions league final with alonso suspended. So if he proves his fitnes thn do you guys thnk he can be an option as well.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Not the missing link for me, we need better than Sammy if we are to be solid in midfield and also creative.

Agree0 Disagree0

More proven than Carvalho and cheaper, maybe. Not convinced van Gaal will take a risk like Carvalho - he will want proven I think.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think he's just what we need

Surely if Martinez is unsettled and open to a move we should be going for him also as a cdm/cm? If it's true that is.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I have posted something similar on the teams page mate. Forget Hummels or Garay, let's buy Martinez.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think Martinez is a perfect fit for barca haha

Agree0 Disagree0

I think he's just what we need

Agree0 Disagree0

Would we use him as a CB or CDM though?

Agree0 Disagree0

Posted similar. I'd use him as a CB personally.

LOL, my eight year old son is watching WWF here, is there anything worse?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - It's actually called WWE now Syd, do keep up! It could be a lot worse, he could be listening to you.}

It could be worse, he could be asking to do dance classes.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 May 2014 18:46:19
Or One Direction for that matter ;)

Agree0 Disagree0

Nothing wrong with Wrestling and dancing Syd, ya miserable git.

Agree0 Disagree0

JK92, I don't mind wrestling with the missus ;)

Agree0 Disagree0

How is Rowdy Roddy Piper doing?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I'm fine thanks.}

My kids have moved on from that, their on minecraft now. Obsessed with watching someone called ballisticsquid and stampylongnose or something like that online.

Agree0 Disagree0

It could be worse Syd, My 4 year old son has been brainwashed by his Grandad (his mums dad) to be a blue :( if he's asked "who's the best player in the world?" . he shouts out "YAYA TOURE"! :(

RD

Agree0 Disagree0

Red Devil, put your foot down mate. Where there's a Yaya, there's a Van Persie!

Supasub, both my sons are playing Minecraft as we speak. And one of them watches matey on youtube a few times a day.

007, just seen a thing on Twitter about a Celtic lad. Oscar Knox, shocking mate. That really does put everything into perspective.

Sometimes we all need to take a step back and realise how important life is and to make the most of it. We all take it for granted.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - It's tragic Syd, cancer is a horrible disease but to see one struck down so young is just heartbreaking mate. I am friendly with a bloke that messes about with music tormenting Rangers fans about money etc but he done a tribute to wee Oscar only last month, I'll put it up but be warned it's YNWA.

It's gut wrenching, I know it happens all the time around the world, but it's no consolation. It makes my original post seem pathetic and quite frankly petty. I would never have posted it otherwise. RIP you little beauty!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Don't be silly man, you were hardly being horrible about anything and only brought it up later in the thread because it was me. }

I seen it on Twitter with the "you'll never walk alone" title, I thought it was Liverpool related, perhaps something to do with one of the 96 family, but noticed the #Celtic and took a closer look. Proper gutting mate. It's so frustrating that there's f**k all that you can do about it! I feel so sh!te for the parents.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I don't have any kids myself Syd but nobody would wish that level of grief on your worst enemy. One of my old footballing buddies and his wife lost a 7 month old baby to meningitis 9/10 years ago now and neither of them have been quite the same since, I can only imagine that a big part of you dies and goes with your baby.}

Its such a sad story, u could never want to feel that pain as a father or mother. My heart truly goes out to the family :-(

My oldest plays that game too and watchs squidy bloke I find it all very odd tbh. When I was younger u had to put tape cassettes into a rather large machine to play crappy games, when the mega drive came out I was blown away and after that the ps1 I honestly thought it wasnt gunna get better, many years on and now i'm getting injured playing Augusta on tiger woodss wtf!

Bond how are the battered mars bars up there? I've heard their quite a delicacy :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I've never had a battered or deep fried Mars bar CTR and don't know anyone that has. I don't think they actually exist to the degree people think and I always though it was a one-off advertising/publicity stunt by some chippy somewhere. What I have noticed over the last couple of years is those cheap pizzas you get out the chippy that are usually fried are now sold with batter on them and called a 'pizza-crunch', I can't believe they have took off yet my hot dog in batter idea is cast aside.}

007, I couldn't imagine, thankfully, but I know elderly folk that's lost their sons or daughters, they are hollow. Never the same afterwards. It must be 100 times worse when the kids are actually kids. Anyway, RIP Oscar lad xXx. Good night all.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Night Syd, God bless mate.}

Yes Bond, but how's your square sausage? Fnar fnar

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I tried to explain squared (Lorne) sausage to Ed001 once and he thought I was pulling his leg!}

What do people think of Dejan Lovren for CB?

I think he's a good defender and could come in cheap at 12-15 million.

Don't get me wrong I'd prefer Hummels and Garay over him but will all the spending we will be doing on other positions a 12-15 million defender wouldn't be a bad choice.

If we don't sign Shaw or Lallana then Lovren could be a possibility from Soton.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think he's a decent defender but I believe we are looking for a CB who can play out from the back, good passing so don't think he is the CB for us

Agree0 Disagree0

When you think they signed him for what £8 million, add that to a decent contract and so on and he's probably cost them £10 million ish this year. I don't imagine they'd sell him for £2-5 million profit. Not worth it if they want to replace. If there's anything we've learned about Soton is that they tend to massively overvalue their players, as a means to put of transfer bids. Still, I don't imagine we'll go for him but I reckon he'll move on in the 2015/16 season.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think he's just what we need

I watched the BBC interview with lvg, he never said, he would love the job, that was the reporter trying to put words in his mouth, clearly he has a job to do for Holland. The sooner it's announced the better for everybody concerned, also going by that BBC interview he doesn't suffer fools or stupid questions! next season should be fun.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Difference is if Moyes was asked that stupid question he probably would have tried coming up with an answer to it, would never have the balls to be straight up and say it's a stupid question. LVG's 'no bullsh!t' attitude is definitely something we've missed since Fergie.

Agree0 Disagree0

Pal I'm pretty sure he said he would love the job.

CAIN

Agree0 Disagree0

He did say it. Yes the journos were leading and he confirmed. It was blatantly obvious he wants the job and said it was up to Utd if they want him.

Marco reus is a top top player IMO. i'm surprised other big name clubs aren't also sniffing about as much as.united.
Di maria blows hot and.cold, on his day, di maria is world class. Then there's games that pass him by. The boy has huge talent. However reus is consistently excellent from when I have watched him. Is far more direct to di maria and would suit uniteds style a lot better IMO. He would be a huge coup for united. Hopefully he stays at dortmond ;)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Obviously we would prefer Ronaldo, Vidal, Shaw & Hummels, but this isn't a fantasy world unfortunately :)

If we had £200m to spend, these would be my choices.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ronaldo, Reus, Vidal, Shaw and Thiago Silva would be my choices Sydney haha, what a team that would make.

Agree0 Disagree0

Honestly, I think a lot of top teams have been sniffing around reus for some time, but they've probably been told he's not for sale. If he were to become available (i.e. Dortmund willing to deal) a lot of clubs would come knocking on the door. I'd imagine Chelsea would be among those clubs as well, going by the list Ed made a little while ago.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Chelsea, Juventus, Real Madrid, Manchester City, Arsenal showed an interest in Marco Reus before his return to Dortmund last year. Recent tentative approaches made by Chelsea and Manchester City have resulted in a "not for sale" response. Manchester City may push again but Dortmund seem to no longer be looking at Dzeko as a possible replacement for Lewandowski, so the option to offer favourable terms on the transfer or a contribution to his salary may well have gone. Interest from Manchester United remains quite speculative right now - 2015 might be a more likely option if the club do well - but should the player become available before then they may well look to bid. Dortmund will not want to sell and a move this summer seems unlikely - although Barcelona will be looking to rebuild this summer and could potentially try and put an offer on the table - but right now that does not seem to be the case.}

Hmmm not to bad that ;)

We should go for Di Maria if available. He's having an outstanding season.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

And play him where? His best for has come at the point of a central 3 and considering we're already discussing whether to put a Kagawa, Mata or Rooney there I don't see room for Di Maria. The right should be left for Januzaj and I would hope for someone better on the left I.e. Reus.

Agree0 Disagree0

He has played some great stuff in a midfield 3 which is a bit of a surprise imo

Agree0 Disagree0

Reus for me. His directness is what we are missing badly. At around £30m he would be an absolute bargain.

Agree0 Disagree0

Di Maria has played as part of a midfield 3, in the hole, on the left and on the right wing this season, Fantastic player 11 goals and 21 assists this season. Type of winger we need, fast, can go past players easily and most importantly can cross the ball.

Plus Januzaj's future is in the no.10 position.

Agree0 Disagree0

There is no one that stands out for me more than Reus. Reus and Adnan I hope will be the two either side of van Perise next season. I'd like to see Muller come in also or Pedro. I don't think Di Maria will be leaving Madrid now after such a fantastic season.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think di Maria would frustrate me as much as Nani! Marco Reus is the man we should pull all the stops out for!

Agree0 Disagree0

Who do we go for when it turns out Dortmund won't sell us Reus, they could easily let his contract run out like they did with the striker who is joining Bayern or we wait till 2015 when his clause comes into play.
don't think Dortmund will sell they losing to many players this summer as it is and will focus on replacing them rather then selling someone they don't need to
