Anybody else not been as excited for a match as I am for Sunday for a long time? This feels like the start of our season, we have just given a few teams a bit of a head start. I get the feeling LVG was hoping we could sneak some wins in them early games and then start properly now, but it didn't work out that way.

Hearing positive noises that Shaw and Herrera are fit, Blind, Falcao and Di Maria also available, I can't wait for an hour before kick off to see that starting line up and its only Tuesday. Hurry up weekend!

Believable15 Unbelievable4

First time in years that I am genuinely excited about the kind of team we can put out on Sunday. The QPR players are actually going to look at our team sheet and think how are we going to stop these guys. we are going to have the fear factor back and I can't wait.

Agree7 Disagree4

Rojo and Rafael also available?

That would complete our team and we would be in a position to field our best 11

Agree3 Disagree1

Jones is out so our defense is going to patch work. Can anyone remember the last time jones, smalling or evans were fit for a 10 game stretch. The China brigade if you ask me and hope we buy 2 cb in the summer and be done with this charade.

Looking forward to it immensely. Just hope it's not an anti-climax, or I'm getting a serious amount of abuse from my ABU mates.

Agree2 Disagree0

Hope we go to back four. Smalling, Blackett and maybe evans do not fullfill me with a lot of confidence and don't want us knocking 40 yard balls into rooney and falcao, what a waste I would say.

Agree1 Disagree0

GDS

Agreed, busting for it.
I hope we play some serious swashbuckling attacking football. There is seriously no excuse not to – QPR have a very poor defence, are low on confidence and we'll have the likes of Blind, Herrera, RVP, Rooney, Di Maria, Mata and Falcao in our attack.

SB its a long week, the drinking started last nite lol

Agree1 Disagree0

Hopefully we see a 4-3-3 with Rafael coming back in at right back and Blind starting in midfield with Di Maria and Herrera. For me that is our strongest team.

Agree2 Disagree0

Looking forward to sunday as well, and as a bonus if we win i'm staying out for the rest of the night.:)

Can anyone see adidas re-releasing retro kits before I shell out top dollar for one now, I know this isn't really the place I should be asking this eds but I'd appreciate it going through to the site, thanks.

Hope so, mate. Can't wait for Adidas doing the kits again. Best we've ever had by a long way.

Not that I'm able to wear them now at my age. For the wee lad. Obviously.

Agree1 Disagree1

I wouldn't wear a new kit but I'm very partial to the retro ones. Our adidas home and away ones during the early 90's and late 80's were brilliant, not had a Nike one since I was about 13 though.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Sep 2014 18:59:03
Yeah, I've got a few off the likes of Toffs. According to my son, Nike is a, 'fail'.

Whatever that means.

Agree1 Disagree1

Totally agree. I love the 90-91 away kit. The blue one with adidas logo pattern design on it. Sharp sponsored. Short sleeves. I wore that shirt till it fell off me. Even wore it in bed! Was that kit kept for two seasons?

Arsenal fans at my work place calling Welbeck the new Pele. got to love them, they're almost as deluded as the scouse lot.

Funny how he couldn't finish his dinner and all the gunners moaning that he is rubbish. But he signs for them, scores two international goals and now he's the best thing since sliced bread.

Funny.

Liverpool fan here

I am not a huge admirer of Wellback Nor I was of Sturridge back at Chelsea.
Wellback was brilliant yesterday and might do another Sturridge at Arsenal.
Sometimes You need a chance.

Agree20 Disagree14

I didn't want him to go andi think he'll do very well at arsenal. And we let him go dar too cheaply.

Agree10 Disagree14

We have spent years thinking Welbeck was below par for a top 4 team, he still is he wouldn't get in the team and certainly not as the striker.
Now we have probably the best striker in the world and we have lost a pi$$ poor striker that can't score if he gets chance to think about it

Agree13 Disagree9

09 Sep 2014 13:40:12
I'm not going to slate Welbeck too much but he isn't and won't be the required standard for a regular starter. His first goal last night could have gone anywhere with him missing it totally and it hitting his shin, his second he
would miss 9 times out of 10, luckily for him last night it went in. I would rather have Wilson in the first team squad than Welbeck, we don't have room for both.

Brendon

What If that luck takes his goal tally to 20 and push his confidence to a level which starts working on his skills.

You never know mate.

Just don't see it Boom, but as with all ex united youngsters I hope he does ok, even at Arsenal. He isn't going to be the difference between them being top four or us so I don't see him as a huge threat to us.

Lol what ifs from the scousers again, well what if falcao hits form straight away or rvp doesn't get injured? What if blind turns out to be amazing? What if rojo becomes best center back in the league? See lots of what ifs, what if last season was a one off for sturridge? What if he gets injured(sorry that's fact).

Agree11 Disagree4

I always thought Welbeck gave his all whilst a Utd. It was his decision making that let him down and at 24 now(I think) it's something that he should have by now. I was sad to see hi. Leave but like Boom said before a move away and perhaps with Giroud being out for 3 months he might excel up front. He will definately get a lot of chances playing for Arsenal with Sanchez, Wilshire, Ramsey, carzola and Ozil there. It's all about effort and working in your weaknesses which Welbeck needed and needs to do.

Oh and i'm not in anyway celebrating sturridge being injured b4 the abuse lol

Looking at our team it is obvious that most of the people will point at our fragile defence . Yes! our defense does look vulnerable but I think this defense can really tighten up and concede much less goals
. We do need class defenders but it does not necessarily mean a strong defence . A team needs a proper system for great defense . And once our team gets along the fluidity of the system we will have solid defense . Athletico last season did well to concede as much as less they can .They do not possess class defenders but the system implemented on them was a class one.Even the dutch team under van gaal had no top class defenders (vlaar, di vrij, martins indi ) but still were solid at the back .It was well down to the system . Once our players are comfortable in this system, our defense will be very strong . No matter we have back 3 or back 4, our players need to learn as fast as they can. Only thing we can do is wait. I am sure we will see exciting football as time passes by

Believable4 Unbelievable1

We have a defense with potential and a forward line that oozes world class. I really can see LVG springing a surprise on the weekend and lining up in a 4-3-3.

Agree2 Disagree2

The main problem for our defense was the formation and playing wingers as wingbacks

Agree2 Disagree0

09 Sep 2014 13:59:41
I think the reason we hadn't changed to 4 at the back was because we had no fit fullbacks, so we would have had to play young and Valencia there so 3 at the back with them as wing backs makes it easier, with shaw and possibly raffael fit for Sunday I would be very suprised if we didn't play with 4 at the back.

Agree2 Disagree0

I would of thought that LVG would ask himself this question:

Do I want to play Jonny Evans, or do I want to try and fit RVP, Falcao and Rooney all into the same team?

I think if he looks at it like that then there is clearly only one answer. Drop a centre back for a forward player.

Agree2 Disagree0

Fresh that maybe possible if we play Daley Blind as a dmf.

What was Roy Hodgson playing at last night as soon as Jones pulled up he should of been subbed off but instead played another 10 mins or so before having to come off if he is out for any length of time now we should refuse to release players for England duty if they are not going to be managed properly

Believable6 Unbelievable1

Internationals are nothing more than a pain in the arse. As if we don't have enough injury problems.

Agree5 Disagree0

09 Sep 2014 11:53:57
Everyone has to deal with it mate.

Agree2 Disagree0

I know that but it was irresponsible of Hodgson to let him play on as it clearly wasn't a knock but a pull/strain he had Jagielka on the bench as well so there was no reason at all to let him play on with a potential hamstring injury especially with his injury record anyway

Agree1 Disagree0

Internationals in our case this year are great. It allows us to get players fit and hopefully sort out whatever it is that has us playing the way we are.

Apparently Jones has made more interceptions this season than any defender (17)

I thought he had a good game last night and looks to have a promising partnership with Cahill, hope the injury he picked up isn't too serious.

Agree1 Disagree0

09 Sep 2014 10:26:11
That maybe because you have a non existent midfield then so he had to defend by the skin of his teeth:-)

Best England player?

Have to say sterling, or maybe Cahill, or Sturridge.

Sad, we suck lol

Believable3 Unbelievable2

At this point in time it's got to be Sterling. Honestly Cahill usually does a pretty solid job as well and I think Chamberlain could be a contender if/when he breaks into the team.

Agree3 Disagree0

09 Sep 2014 09:49:51
We suck?

We just had a great result against a good Switzerland side and we are pretty much already qualified for Euro 2016. Remember we didn't qualify for the Euro's a few years ago, so for me we are at least stepping in the right direction. The average age of the side was just over 24 and there are a few good youngsters still to add to that (Shaw, Ward-Prowse etc). We need to lower our expectation for the England side, but we aren't as bad as the press make out.

Agree2 Disagree2

Already qualified? You've won one game. Hilarious.

Agree0 Disagree1

Have you seen our group RWWD? We would literally win the group now with an under-19's team.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Sep 2014 13:23:35
RWWD,

I would put my life savings on us qualifying from this group, the top 2 go through automatically and 3rd place even gets another chance. Even a defeat last night and we still should have qualified with ease, but a win last night means we are pretty much there already, simple as that really.

Expanding the competition to 24 teams means qualification for the better nations should just be a walk in the park. Don't think I am being 'hilarious' thinking that we will beat San Marino and Lithuania twice.

Agree2 Disagree1

I would also bet that you will qualify. But it just genuinely tickled me to hear 'pretty much already qualified' after ONE game. In Scotland we sometimes (often unfairly) accuse the England fans of being too arrogant and ahead of themselves so to read this after one game gave me a chuckle. That's all.

Now, bring on the Scotland jokes .
