I’m trying to reduce how often I post, but FZZ made a comment down the page that I can’t ignore.

“Other stuff on which can take priority. Call it what you want, sports are there to enjoy, i'm not sucked in with all this plastic bs, everyone on here is plastic barring 1 or 2. You all be supporting man utd if they never won a thing and in league 2 give me a break. ”

Not sure how old you are FZZ but some of us were supporting the club in Division 2 and then for the many years where we only every won the odd Cup. Your club is your club, through good times and bad. Are you seriously suggesting that if United continue to struggle you will find another club to support? Perhaps one who are winning things, City perhaps?

I have missed the odd match this year, the football hasn’t been great and I’ve found myself busy with a lot of other priorities so I get that point. But to suggest pretty much everyone is plastic and only here for the glory is incredible. Unless of course I’m an old fart and the younger generation are that shallow that they agree with you.

Same WRD. Been supporting United since my mam bought me my first fake kit off Wythenshawe market. Me and my brothers are red in a family full of blues. It doesn’t bare thinking about switching your colours. I’ve only ever known one person do it, he went from City to United in the 00’s. He was a bit of a todger so a tiny part of me is laughing at the timing of his switch.

There are lots of reasons why people support a club and glory is rightly one of them.

I'm from Manchester, live about 11 miles from OT and a proud glory fan. I've supported Utd since 1990 and glory is all I've known and I want it back.

To be honest I'm not sure how fans of other clubs like Bolton down the road enjoy football when I find watching Utd frustrating, anger inducing, annoying and almost painful all the while it is levels above what other teams enjoy. Even the trophies won over the last few seasons since SAF have been good expect in comparison to our own history.

I am an absolute nightmare to be around when we're playing and after we lose.

We have been conditioned right or wrong to success. Therefore we are all Glory Fans.

This season is the first year I've put paying for stuff (new house, wedding etc) before going to Utd. I have skipped televised games and I have found myself happier.

My enjoyment and commitment for the club has waned and may well return with better football and success. I'm not ashamed to say that.

There are no badges or prizes for being a martyr. We are all glory fans at some level whether wishing for success or revelling in it and while there is credit in supporting a club through thick and thin for me my club is the distraction from work, family responsibilities and stress. A tribal escape that is a therapy of sorts and when that stops being beneficial I see no problems in looking for something else to fill that gap. For me that is computer games but for others it could be something else.

It is irrelevant how many games you go to or where you live it is passion that is the difference between a real fan and a plastic. My passion for Utd to return to the glory days won't ever waiver but my commitment and the importance of the club in my life certainly has.

An interesting quote from Cantona on the Player's Tribune, anathema to Jose:

"All the time, I get asked the same questions about my career.

"What was it like playing for those United teams? Why did you do so well? "

People want some kind of complex answer. They want some kind of secret, I think. But the answer is very simple. Sir Alex Ferguson was the master of one thing: Whenever we took the pitch for a match, after hours and hours of work, we were allowed to be free. We felt total freedom to move where we wanted, to play how we wanted.

I could tolerate football no other way.

What is football if it is not about freedom?

Agree8 0Disagree

15 Dec 2018 02:01:43
Nice quote. Ferguson was not quite like that in his latter years but the sentiment rings true.

Agree0 0Disagree

{Ed001's Note - he was not like that with the other players at any point in his career. That was his genius, he knew what was needed to get the best out of most of his players. He didn't always get it right, but more often than most. He knew Cantona needed total freedom, so Cantona got total freedom. But everyone else in that team was treated differently, off the pitch as well as on it.}

Well we've all heard the stories with giggs and lee Sharpe an that's just a few examples. I'm sure Eds got a few more. Hint hint.

Really looking forward to the game on Sunday.
As with every game we play i think we can win it.
Unforrunatly that's not been the case often enough recently but since i'm 6 years old this fixture is the first one i look for when the fixtures are released.
As a supporter its the best game to win and the worst one to lose.
Id be delighted with a draw on Sunday. Currently they have a better team than us with better and inform players in nearly every position but they also had that in the 70s and 80s.

A draw just keeps us in purgatory Ken. If we want to salvage anything from this car crash season than nothing less than a win will do. Our poor form and dismal performances means we can ill afford to drop any more points even against the better teams. This is the position we find ourselves and we must face the stark reality of our situation. A positive result on Sunday with a run of favourable fixtures over the Christmas period might just bring us some New Year cheer. I wouldn't bet on it though.

Jones darmian rojo valencia offer nothing of any value to the squad. They don't even offer decent competition to the starters. None of them are even 2nd choice when everybody is fit.
I just think its pointless having them there.
Between those 4 alone its probably close to 20m a year in wages.
Id rather promote younger players than have the likes of these guys.

I think Jose doesn't want those players and if you offered him the choice of keeping them as squad fillers or getting rid and putting the fees and wages towards new signings then they'd be going. Problem is funding buyers to the inflated wages we pay.

14 Dec 2018 16:37:54
I honestly don't know what Darmian's done to be frozen out. He's never brilliant, and his crossing is erratic, but I can't remember too many below average games either. You don't get into an Italian defence that easily. Good, solid full-back in my opinion, and worthy of being a squad player.

Depends on what wages he's on. Also that he's not pushed for a move speaks volumes to me.

14 Dec 2018 17:57:10
Mort, do you mean he's acting professionally by not rocking the boat, or is it he's just happy to pick up his wages? I don't know either way obviously. I'm sure there was talk of him going back to Italy a few times, but nothing obviously came from it. I think his positional versatility is useful as a squad player.

That's it though we just don't know. Personally I'd be pushing for a move home especially if I knew I wasn't really wanted. I'd want to be playing every week an pushing for the national team not sat on the bench at best most weeks. But that's me. Its a short career and i'd put minutes over money. But we don't know.

We saw last night what is really one of the biggest issues with our side presently.

We have a 89m problem in our side and it isn't an easy fix. Forget what Pogba does off the pitch it is what he does on the pitch that is the biggest problem to how we play.

On the surface it looks good, his stats read that he played more passes than anyone in our side last night (77) with a near 91% pass accuracy. He also had more touches than anyone else (93). A couple of "key passes" a few shots, 8 of his 9 attempted long passes were successful. However, that is only one side of the stats. He also only one one header, made one interception while he made no tackles, no blocks and no clearances.

So what is the story, what is happening when we combine the stats and what we see with our own eyes?

We see a player who demands the ball but does little to win it, a player who is obsessed with the "Hollywood" ball rather than the effective one. A highlight reel player. While his Hollywood long range passes look good, the time they take to get to their target gives the opposition time to get into position. Making them almost pointless.

This is the real problem, as the stats highlight what a massive drain of the ball he is to our side. This wouldn't be a problem if he was being effective with the ball, but he isn't. And I fear he won't be until he learns that the simple ball is often the best, speed of pass is more important than how it looks, and end result is more important than looking flash.

In this respect Mourinho has my sympathy, I don't think Pogba wants to hear the things that need to be said to him to improve him and allow him to achieve his full potential.

Until Pogba either learns or leaves we will struggle to get the best out of our side.

read an article in the rags were he says he is humiliated for being dropped. he admits he and others are not playing well, but his excuse for being humiliated is because of his stature in the game. i think that says it all if true.

Shappy

I agree, watching Pogba last night, he passed the ball to the nearest player and stepped back into the pocket, put an opposition player between him and the ball. Once the ball was in front of him it looked like he felt he had done his job. Laconic, lethargic on the ball. I said on live chat that in the 70’s my late brother used to point out players who hid until ten minutes from the end of each half then put some effort in so they didn’t get a rollicking at the end. Pogba seemed like that, he and others insulted the shirt last night.

Agree10 0Disagree

13 Dec 2018 21:18:59
It is apparent that Pogba is a luxury player not suited to being in a struggling team that needs to up its tempo and requires some genuine midfield leadership.

We can't afford a player who holds on to the ball too long, gets tackled, falls over hoping for a foul, and then rather than getting up and sprinting back, he stares at the ref in disbelief or bangs his fist on the ground. Equally as telling are the limited number of times United players in general and Pogba, in particular, actually sprint. He is altogether too languorous.

Agree6 0Disagree

14 Dec 2018 00:15:11
Bang on Shappy.

The best midfielders in the game dictate play and control the pace of the gane. They keep it simple, one touch, then pass and m move. Pogba takes 5+ touches before losing the ball or playing a Hollywood pass or 40 yard shot. He might grow out of these habits as central midfield is a position for a player who is more mature on and off the pitch. Unfortunately I don't think he will.

Agree5 0Disagree

14 Dec 2018 06:09:34
Mourinho asked for simplicity and he got it from pogba against valencia, hard to make any killer passes when no one is running in behind and everyone is standing on each others toes in midfield.

Agree2 10Disagree

14 Dec 2018 11:26:30
You can't post stats showing how good Pogba is then slate him. Pretty much every manager who might replace Mou will want him in the team. Speaks volumes.

Agree0 4Disagree

14 Dec 2018 11:37:25
DSG, the number of runs that our forwards make, particularly Rashford, is more than adequate. The problem is midfielders who can't pick a pass, and Pogba's key responsibility is to link defence and attack. You must be watching another game if you see anything but poor performance week in, week out from Pogba. He's not a kid any more, he's not potential any more, he's at an age where he should be at his peak, and if this is his peak then we will be lucky to find a buyer. He is the virus in the Club and we need shot of him ASAP.

Agree3 1Disagree

14 Dec 2018 17:38:04
So72, Watch the charity game in the summer, I'll spend the entire match passing back to the keeper. By the end of the match I'll make 50+ passes with 100% accuracy.

Does that mean I've had a good game?

The stats only show half the story, and out of context they mean very little.

Some of the stats out of context look good. Some look awful. However, I felt they highlighted my point that he is a vortex in our team, drawing the ball into him limiting the chances for other players while also not actually producing very much.
