Do United still hold interest in Mourinho's summer targets such as the likes of Perisic and Alderweireld? Or can we expect a compromise of sorts due to other's clear resistance at signing 'older' players?

If Mourinho is to stay then surely the board either need to go after his targets, or Mourinho is made to shift his approach and target different players which would completely go against who he is and the type of player he has targeted historically.

Can we expect to see any youth players step up as the season progresses or will that purely be down to any injuries to first-team players?

I suspect we will have a very quiet January window due to the uncertainty of the managers position. We might see a player or two leave if the right offers cone in for the right players (Darmian, Rojo ect maybe) .

But I don't see any significant players joining, at most maybe a youngster or two for the academy.

I think the same Shappy. When the January window closes we will have a good idea as to Mourinho’s fate.

I think if a player who is of top quality becomes avaliable such as alderweireld we would still go in for him because even if a new manager comes in, he's not the type of player who can't adapt to a new manager.

But agree we should use the january window to get rid of players. Romero, valencia, young, smalling, jones, rojo, herrera, matic, fellaini, periera, sanchez, darmian etc would probably be for sale before you even get to players who want to leave such as pogba bailly and martial.

I think we could see a much busier January window in general than previous years. With the summer window shutting early I think there were lots of potential deals not completed because the selling clubs were reluctant to lose players with little time to replace them.
I guess time will tell, eh.

Ed002 if you're not doing a sharkopod then can I ask if there looks to be several ins-and-outs (2 or 3, say) this winter. I know it's usually not a time for major movements but there are serious leaks to plug - mainly in central defence and midfield - that left alone could leave us well out of the top 6, nevermind top 4 very soon.

{Ed002's Note - I really don'tr want to get involved too much on this page for a while. Too much grief.}

Sorry to see your voice of insight and sanity disappear yet again.

I understand and respect your decision but am disappointed - not in you but in the fact you will be greatly missed.
I will say thanks and Au revoir in the hope you will return.

Ed will return just let the situation with Mourinho clear up.

Firstly, I have donned my hard hat.
I admire all those who are still talking up top six which I thought months ago would be a struggle.
I now, regrettably, would suggest that from where we are and given the stagnation and apparent apathy within the club to the situation, we will struggle (and do well IMO) to keep ahead of those clubs ominously creeping up behind us.

We are almost a top third club at present. I think come the end of season, remaining in the top half would be quite an achievement.
How do others REALISTICALLY see the immediate future.
Just to be quite clear I am a supporter, but I am also realistic and now increasingly bordering on pessimistic.

I agree DW . mid table at least. May get into Europa league if results go our way. But i'm not a fan on relying on other clubs results helping us out.

The next 3 games may be crucial in that respect. If we loss against Arsenal and Liverpool then I can see him going. At that stage we may well be 14 points off 5th, 22 points of top and find ourselves down in 9th.

If that were all to happen then surely the board would have to act and act fast.

its clear the players are not behind him, his tactics and team selection is a joke. no one looks like they care and that goes for everyone not just the manager

hes constantly making excuses and whinging like many of us on here and its getting tiresome

when your own fans are sick of watching you play its embarrasing

i seen a video of chris sutton speaking saying jose wants to get fired and tbh I've been saying this for weeks the guy can't be arsed being here,

the board or woodward have to take as much blame as jose and the players. we give him a new deal in January and then we don't back him in the window.

hes not got the full support so what's the point i say cut ties now before this season turns into even more of a farce.

regardless of what's going on with that team we should be making a challenge.

I agree bolger. When on a journey and realising that you are going the wrong way, the sooner you turn around the sooner you arrive at your destination.

We keep saying it’s clear the players aren’t behind him, but most of the payers are so average anndnot fit to lace Jose’s boots. Get rid of the dross and let him do his job.

I’ll back up my statement with the following, who of the below are going to win us a title:
Young, Jones, Smalling, Rojo, Darmian, Shaw, McTominay, an inconsistent Rashford and Martial (who I would keep), a lazy show pony in Pogba, an ageing Matic, an average Hererra, Mata on the right wing, a clearly bulky overweight Lukaku. I could go on but this squad of average players has far too much power and quite frankly they need to moved on. Let Jose do his job properly or sack him immediately.
