Hello Ed 001, hope you're doing ok.
Would this be a good time to ask you if you've heard anything United related?
And hopefully everything's going smoothly on the moving front :D.

Dip

{Ed001's Note - I haven't heard anything new, I would expect an end of season review before movement to be honest.}

03 May 2016 17:26:13
Ed 01, if you don't me asking, is there any interest in Griezman? If yes do you think he would be attainable?
Thanks.

Dip

{Ed001's Note - I wouldn't get your hopes up.}

1.) 03 May 2016 19:16:01
Ah well thanks again. Heard anything else regarding United? I mean something we haven't heard from you yet?

{Ed001's Note - not really mate, I have not been able to devote much time to it. I am a bit busy to chase up info, I have had 11 in laws staying and I am preparing to move country for the rest of the year two days after they go home. It has not left me much time. Remind me around the 12th or so, and I will push for some info on United in particular. Sorry for not being much use right now.}

2.) 03 May 2016 20:17:06
No problem at all ed.
11 in laws eh? Just thinking about it makes me reach for my whiskey haha.

{Ed001's Note - actually it is not so bad. The fact they can't understand what I say and I can't understand them probably helps! And the little nephew and niece are great fun to have around. Though they seem to think I am a climbing frame and like to do things like stand up on the arm of the sofa and just launch themselves head first at me assuming I will catch them and then twirl them around. When I took them to the mall, I was walking round with one hanging off each arm swinging. So I can't complain about a lack of exercise! They are better than any weight regime I have ever tried.}

3.) 03 May 2016 20:25:19
Sounds like you have a lot on your plate Ed. I suppose moving country is one way of making sure the in laws don't come back. Enjoy the piece and quiet when you get settled.

{Ed001's Note - that is true as they will struggle to get a visa for Spain. Actually, being perfectly honest, I think it is my missus that has the short straw on the inlaw front!}

4.) 03 May 2016 20:28:13
Ed001 I know your busy but have you heard anything about players leaving this summer?

{Ed001's Note - nothing new, though I did hear some things regarding Januzaj which makes it plain to see why he has dropped so completely out of the first team picture. If he doesn't buck his ideas up fast, his career will be extremely short.}

5.) 03 May 2016 20:38:10
Sounds like you're having fun mate! In laws who don't understand you, how I wish I had that.
My niece seems to think I'm some sort of nail filer, trust me you don't want to be that.

{Ed001's Note - yeah, the not being understood bit is actually quite useful. Luckily no one would use me as a nail filer twice, I am far too heavy handed for stuff like that.}

6.) 03 May 2016 20:39:24
Yeah I have heard stories that the money etc has gone to his head!

{Ed001's Note - his attitude had stunk the place out, in Germany as well. Sad when they get like that.}

7.) 04 May 2016 20:15:29
Whereabouts in Spain are you off to 001? . We have got a place on the mainland, would love to live there one day. Good luck, it's a massive step.

{Ed001's Note - I am only there until the end of the year, all being well, to save up for my wedding. My fiancee's job is here in Dubai, so the intention is to come back then, all being well. I am going to be staying in a village called Marinaleda in Andalusia. My first ever visit to Spain to be honest, though my parents retired there a few years ago now.}

28 Nov 2015 19:35:40
Hi ed01 or 02, I was wondering if u guys heard anything regarding thoughts on van gaal inside United. As in are the board happy with the job he is doing and team play in general? I remember sir Bobby once saying United wouldn't hire jose because of his style of play so sure he wouldn't be happy with how we are playing at the moment?

Dip

{Ed001's Note - there have been issues behind the scenes for a long time, with a lot of people unhappy with the way the team are playing. The only thing that is keeping him in the role is the results. So long as United are top four, it is very difficult to remove him, or to make a case for replacing him. The only problem is that as dissatisfaction grows, performances will not improve, confidence is affected and team spirit suffers. So when, if, a bad patch happens, things can quickly fall apart with little hope of arresting a slide into the midtable places. Playing safe football does mean it is unlikely to happen though.}

1.) 28 Nov 2015 20:16:41
So no matter how awful we play, as long as we're top 4 he's not going anywhere huh. Well that's frustrating. I've backed the manager but jus can't make myself do it anymore.
Another thing, if he is let go, with talks of city signing pep and liverpool having signed klopp. Will the board be brave enuf to give the job to giggs? In your opinion that is.

{Ed001's Note - is that bravery or taking the easy route out by going with the man in place?}

2.) 28 Nov 2015 20:42:11
Depends on hw u look at it. I'd say it's bravery.

3.) 28 Nov 2015 23:52:50
It's not bravery Dip. It's stupidity.

4.) 29 Nov 2015 07:34:19
Actually it's a gamble. If it works out, with giggs at the helm, the decision will be termed as a brave decision. If it doesn't then it will Hav been a stupid one. But this pretty obvious. Putting all that aside I hope the powers that may b at United be brave and sack Lvg before things go frm bad to worse.

5.) 01 Dec 2015 11:02:40
"Sack LVG before things go from bad to worse. " Seriously. I give up with some of you people.

6.) 01 Dec 2015 16:49:23
Why Maverick?

Do you disagree that things are bad now? If so you are entitled to your opinion, but so are those of us who don't like seeing our team play boring, slow football, whatever the results.

7.) 02 Dec 2015 09:46:09
Thorne, yeah I disagree. I can understand the frustration of a number of fans based on the performances we‘ve seen from United this year – however, the lack of patience is beyond ridiculous. After Ferguson left the team was a complete mess, and Moyes coming in made things worse. Yes Ferguson won the league, but the age of the squad, the lack of quality in depth and the lack of genuine world class players meant that a big rebuilding job was needed to compete again.
Moyes came in, brought with him Fellaini and tried to sign every world class player in Europe rather than looking at the long term planning. He made many mistakes and simply had to go. Enter Van Gaal – He was tasked with revitalizing a squad, clearing out the deadwood and getting United back into the Champions league. He made a number of signings to help with the latter and also let a bunch of players go in his first year. But it was all part of the process…. he got United back into the Champions league and decided at this point that now after a season he understood which players he wanted long term and what he needed to bring in.
Now fast forward to this year – He also let a bunch more players leave this season, many on really high wages – RVP, Nani, Falcao, Di Maria – brought in a number of players he wanted to work with and is left with a squad he is happy with and he has built – and one that contains many young players, (Martial, Smalling, Jones, Blind, Darmian, Shaw, De Gea, Schneirdelain, Depay, Herrera, Rojo, McNair, Pereira, Lingard, are all players who can play for another 5-10 years and who haven’t reached their full potential yet) . He has brought in 14 players, promoted a number from the youth team and now let a huge chunk go in his two seasons…that’s a massive change around but also necessary in terms of wages, and long term planning. He was trusted to do this due to his experience and record in doing similar at other top clubs.
After now putting together the squad he needs to now implement his playing style, which is possession based and built on patience rather then going full throttle . You need to start at the base, and even the most blind of fans can see he has sorted the defense. Compare this to last year where De Gea was making 10-15 saves a match to now where he is making 1 or 2. We are keeping clean sheets and keeping the ball…. however, the one missing element is our attacking play and he has been called out on this, and rightly so.
However, even Ferguson knew you can't win anything without a defense, and it is a process…you start at the base and then work further up the pitch. This will happen over the season, but in Van Gaals mind and the reason he is relatively happy is everything is going towards his long term plan. His past teams did eventually play attractive and effective football and the same will happen at United. He keeps saying ‘process’ because it is process. Replacing him now would completely undermine all positive (yes positive) work he has done behind the scenes.
If you look at Ferguson’s United between 2003 and 2006 it was a similar process. Losing key players like RVN, Keane, Butt, Beckham and Stam and accommodating an older and different Scholes and Giggs he had to rebuild and was also looking to implement a different playing style and formation to help with the changing styles in Europe and domestically – this was built around the likes of Ferdinand, Rooney and Ronaldo. I remember a number of fans becoming frustrated during this spell, but he needed time to make these changes.
I also a remember a huge amount of 0-0’s during this period. If Social media was around I imagine there would be a number of ridiculous ‘SAF out’ Tweets and posts. However it was a process and the club allowed him the time to do this – and they were rewarded with one of the best periods in the clubs history between 2006-2009.
The bottom line is Van Gaal has done what was asked, he has built a new squad, trimmed off most of the deadwood and high wages (bar Rooney of course) and got United competing again.
The final word is I believe this ‘Van Gaal out’ stuff is ridiculous and we need to let him finish the process he has started. Ask yourself this, who replaces him? Or even, come next season when he steps down will United be in a better or worse position than when Ferguson retired? Would Van Gaal have achieved his aim of reestablishing and setting up United for years to come and leaving the new manager in a place where everything is in place for him to succeed? United fans please look at the bigger picture and stop acting like a bunch of spoiled brats. As a club we have always prided ourselves on long term planning and patience and the stuff I am reading recently makes a mockery of this.

8.) 02 Dec 2015 17:50:09
While a lot of that is true, I disagree on several points.

Firstly, I think the current squad is entirely capable of playing more exciting attacking football, indeed I would go so far as to say that the slow possession style is actively hampering many of our better players and preventing us from getting the best out of them.

Also, I don't think he has sorted the defence out. This type of possession football is inherently defensive, as it aims to keep possession of the ball to destrict opposing chances. You can't score when you don't have the ball. We aren't actually defending much better when the opposition actually have the ball (although I will agree there has been a moderate improvement), and we are conceding fewer goals mainly because our opponents don't have the ball enough to build any momentum.

I do agree that there aren't a lot of options to replace LVG, but I don't think that we have to be happy with him just because there isn't an obvious replacement.

9.) 02 Dec 2015 18:03:55
Also Maverick, there WAS social media around 2003-2006, and while it wasn't as prominent as now, fan sites, forums, and blogs where around too, and you're wrong.

People grumbled, but there wasn't a "Fergie Out" movement. The simple reason is that was a transition, whereas this feels like a total abandonment of the exciting, attacking football that, for many of us, is an intrinsic part of Utd's identity.

Hi ed01. Hope you're doing well. a question for if you don't mind. Heard any chatter about United? Transfers, managers?

Dip

{Ed001's Note - the only thing I have heard is the likelihood of a renewed push for Neymar Jr.}

1.) 19 Nov 2015 20:59:16
What a waste of time. Why are we obsessed with chasing big names that never come off.

2.) 19 Nov 2015 23:06:33
Because if we go for other players people moan we are Manchester United and should be going for the top players.

3.) 20 Nov 2015 10:59:55
Appreciated but i'd rather just focus on players we can get who are good enough and want to be here.

For every Alan shearer we miss out on there is an ole solksjser.

For every ronaldinho there is a Cristiano Ronaldo

Just can't see the point in getting worked up over certain names that we spend two months chasing with nothing to show for it.

{Ed001's Note - Neymar Jr. is facing a tax battle, which is putting his position at Barca in serious danger. Not because they are willing to sell him, but because he is considering leaving, as his dad has said in the past couple of days. That is why United are chasing him, as there is, surprisingly, a chance he would move.}

4.) 20 Nov 2015 12:38:58
Id guess its a slim chance though. I guess if they sort out the tax thing he'll stay. Sounds to me like his dad is using interest from us to threaten Barcelona into fixing it.

{Ed001's Note - a lot depends on the result of the investigation into his transfer there.}

Ed 01 if u are about. Do you Knw anythin about Andrea berta?

Dip

{Ed001's Note - I was wondering if this would be the topic today. He is given most of the credit for Atletico Madrid's success in recent years, as a lot of people believe his recruitment gave Simeone the platform to win, and that he is the key figure there. While that was probably true initially, when he was recruiting with the aid of third parties to reduce the cost to Atleti and allowing them to get better players, I am not sure how his methods will translate now that avenue is no longer possible. The likes of Fernando Torres' return suggests he is struggling without being able to look to outside aid. Hard to tell, as only time will really give any idea, but this might be a good time for him to leave and move to a club with the budget to afford the players he identifies.}

1.) 07 Feb 2016 09:28:08
Any truth in the reports that United are lookin to hire him or the fact that United are actually looking to recruit a director of football?

{Ed001's Note - there has been some contact with a view to him joining, yes.}

2.) 07 Feb 2016 09:43:02
Thanx ed.

3.) 07 Feb 2016 11:44:54
Bertra + Mourinho + Mendes = Griezmann in the summer.

29 Aug 2015 09:50:19
Ed 01 hear anything spicy at United mate?

Dip

{Ed001's Note - I heard Rooney had a masala last night.....

Seriously, I haven't heard anything the last few days, not new stuff anyway. I think, personally, you made a mistake not gazumping Spurs for Son.}

1.) 29 Aug 2015 11:50:24
Ed001 I posted the same thing about Son a few days ago. Top player.

{Ed001's Note - I love Son as a player, I was desperately hoping Liverpool would buy him but at the time he had agreed to stay with his club. I am not sure what happened to make ask to leave, but I am trying to find out.}

2.) 29 Aug 2015 12:48:18
I'm a bit wary of buying Asian players especially after Kagawa. He could do well but I'm reserving judgement.

3.) 29 Aug 2015 14:02:38
Park didn't turn out too bad

4.) 29 Aug 2015 14:03:07
What about Park? We had one good experience and one not so good. That's like saying your wary of buying Brazillians because of Anderson.

5.) 29 Aug 2015 14:18:04
No park was always reliable and did a job but he was never anything more than a reliable squad player. But there's been plenty of other Japanese and Korean players who have flopped in this league.

6.) 29 Aug 2015 14:18:12
Haha I set myself up for that.
On son, I think United want someone with more star power than him, a marquee signing rather.
Tbh, i'm pretty satisfied with the team right now, a cb and a winger are indeed needed but i think we'll be challenging nevertheless. i could be wrong, most probably I am but I hav a good feeling about us this year

7.) 29 Aug 2015 18:35:54
Sorry dip but I can't see us challenging for 1st place unless we buy another striker, I personally think whichever of top 4 buy the best new/backup striker will have the best chance of the title

20 Aug 2015 09:28:33
Good morning lads.
I have finally figured out what happened on the pedro deal. Our woody boy is a genius I tell u, a genius!
The woodman knew of Chelsea interest in pedro but he also knew their interest in, interestingly, one antione griezzzman or what ever he is called. And I think ed02 said that his transfer to Chelsea was possible early in the window.
But woody somehow SOMEHOW managed to force Chelsea's hand on pedro so we now can a have free go at antione.

Can anyone who's seen firmino play comment on what kind of a player he is? How good is he? 1st team material?

Dip

1.) 15 Jun 2015 14:54:44
He's an attacking midfielder who can play as #10, wide or in midfield, versatile player which LVG likes. Has been a revelation for hoffenhiem, I'd say he could adapt to the EPL but would be a risk as he's unproven here but as they say you never try you never know, personally I think he'd be a good addition.

2.) 15 Jun 2015 15:11:10
not seen a great deal but looks very similar to depay i thought

30 May 2015 20:04:47
Anyone watching the German cup final? Not been impressed with gundogan so far. The game is flying by him.
Hummels has looked ok.

Dip

1.) 30 May 2015 20:29:05
Hummels has been really poor in the second half. Losing the ball and not even retreating fast. This type of play will be severely punished in England. I would take otamendi over hummels any day. He's a bull. A proper defender.

2.) 30 May 2015 20:37:53
His distribution has been very good. What a game though!

{Ed004's Note - His distribution has been class. However, he has looked poor at the back though I'm not sure if that's because the defence has had no protection at all from the outfield players. He hasn't been at fault for any of the goals though}

3.) 30 May 2015 21:01:11
Defensively I'd say he's been average but I'd have him in our line up ahead of of jones smalling etc any day.
What a player de brunye looks though. Chelsea will be kicking themselves over him soon if they aren't already.
Really really disappointed with gundogan.

4.) 30 May 2015 22:39:08
He's a great distributor of the ball, very composed and a class act. He's slow as a tug boat and not that great at tackling/blocking/intercepting though, maybe not the saviour he's been portrayed.

5.) 31 May 2015 00:40:21
I have been saying that gundogan and hummels are not good enough. I'll be really disappointed if we buy either of them.

6.) 31 May 2015 06:07:09
Well i have said that i am not sure on either either and by the sounds of it tat has been confirmed.

I think Verrati is absolute class and watched him in their cup final and for being 22 he has some footballing brain on him to go with his ability. Absolute star in the making if not already.

I guess there will be more of us in the ottamendi camp, he is not as good a passer as Hummels but a defensively a beast and the type of guy you want siting instructions at the back 4(in spanish lol).

7.) 31 May 2015 21:02:37
Disappointed with Gundogan, Hummels and Laporte( all alleged Utd targets) Hummels will get roasted in the prem with his lack of pace. On the other hand, despite his age, Dani Alvez would be a great signing, although I cannot see Barcelona letting him leave.

{Ed004's Note - I would be over the moon if any of those first 3 are signed}
