Eds, was wondering if United were going to go back in for Andre Gomes this summer? Ed002 told us that he was one of the players who we stepped back on in Jan due to fan unrest. Wouldn't surprise me if Jose was a fan and we all know the links with Mendes there.

Nathaniel

{Ed004's Note - I think he's looking likely to head to Juve}

1.) 25 May 2016 23:54:20
I like the juventus connection as he'd be a great replacement for an old trafford bound pogba! The dream is alive.

08 Mar 2016 23:20:27
linking us with Nikola Maksimovic from Torino. Serbian international centreback. Anyone know anything about him?

Nathaniel

29 Aug 2015 20:21:42
Chicharito supposedly been told he can leave. Surely the club would have someone lined up if this was the case?

Nathaniel

1.) 30 Aug 2015 00:07:38
Totenham or West Ham most likely they were the clubs interested

Rumours late this evening that Chelsea are trying to hijack Pedro. Have you heard anything eds?

Nathaniel

{Ed004's Note - I expect the club to complete a deal for Pedro in the coming days}

17 Jul 2015 23:07:26
Eds what do you know of the news that United are apparently set to trigger Pedro's release clause?

Nathaniel

{Ed007's Note - Unless there's been a massive change of plan in the last day or two I'd say it's bollocks. The last thing I know was that Utd were approached and asked if they were interested in the player a while back and they weren't.}

1.) 17 Jul 2015 23:42:06
Thanks for the detailed answer Ed! Pedro was a player i thought had a outside chance of coming in, ill erase that thought now

What does everyone expect from Memphis next season?

Lots of people (me included) get wound up looking towards what new players we could buy this summer, sometimes forgetting the players we have who with a new manager's belief could improve on the pitch.

Could he potentially benefit from being one of the few internationals not going to the Euros and getting a full pre-season with Jose.

One of the things we all disliked about LvG was his insistence on playing people out of position. Is it possible to fit Memphis in the team without doing so? (If Martial is our first choice LW)

Personally, I still believe in the lad and believe that in the right system he could flourish.

Nathaniel

1.) 01 Jun 2016 23:43:38
He will come good next year, he has enough qualities to make it as a good footballer.

2.) 02 Jun 2016 00:05:53
I believe in him too as a potential great but and there is a big but he must learn to play for the team by doing his defensive duties too when needed. If he doesn't I can't see Mourinho retaining him.

3.) 02 Jun 2016 00:06:58
Hi mate,

I agree that Depay would most likely flourish under Jose, but sbout this concept of Martial being a lw i slightly disagree. Whilst i think Martial can play there brilliantly, he is a striker, an expensive one.

I would prefer to try depay on lw again and see if he improves and play Martial and Rashford in rotation for striker with rw like griezman or someone like him coming in, and if all else fails then we can play Martial lw again worse comes to worse.

Cypriotenglish.

4.) 02 Jun 2016 01:20:20
He needs the rolls Royce and g wagon taken away and stored in a garage after taking delivery of a team chevrolet. He needs some black boots from under armour and just knuckle down. I think he will be better and more direct next season with a bit of guidance.

5.) 02 Jun 2016 07:41:58
I believe he could well be a revelation under Mourhino.
In reality, I think we might never know as I fear there is a real danger that he'll be shown the door.

6.) 02 Jun 2016 13:55:59
Martial looks like he can play a Ronaldo type role. Which can give you all kind of options through the middle if he's not greedy which he isn't. I also worry for depay who if we lose I would expect to be a world beater in a couple of seasons.

7.) 02 Jun 2016 18:20:14
I think we will sell him after one more season, does not have the pace and flatters to deceive because he is muscular and has all those tatoos.

I have been very vocal saying he has been utter sh. t and i think he will be no different under Jose.

Jose will buy a striker and a right winger and Martial will play left wing. Him and Shaw should be fun to watch.

I saw a massive thread down the page about LvG not trusting youth in the league cup.

He said he's not going to use Wilson and Lingard tonight and they're getting a rest day.

Maybe he's going to use one of them/both of them at some point vs Sunderland on Saturday. Ipswich are in decent form and will be a lot more up for it than Sunderland.

Nathaniel

1.) 23 Sep 2015 15:12:52
was the post about lvg not trusting youth or about the game tonight being the perfect chance to have a player like wilson on the bench and give him some minutes.

i would give wilson perreira etc a go in the cup before the EPL .
wilson hasn't made the 18 man squad for the league this season i would of though the game tonight would of been a good chance for him

2.) 23 Sep 2015 15:22:31
That would be my first thought too jred, but maybe the manager has a better idea than us having watched them in training etc?

3.) 23 Sep 2015 15:58:06
Or maybe he thinks Wilson isn't ready for the first team yet. There is a massive step between being the best at under 21 level and being good enough for a champions league teams first team.

As for Lingard I like him but I doubt he would ever be more than a squad player for us at best. I'd play Pereira ahead of him to be honest, as he has more potential.

Then let us remember a year ago LvG underestimated lower league opposition in this very competiton. I expect he will field a much stronger side this time round. We still haven't clicked in attack yet, that will only come with game time. So it might make sense to play the first team in this game.

4.) 23 Sep 2015 16:12:22
I watched him on Monday and he is still very raw. Imo he is not ready and is still some way off. I can only assume that the coaching staff concur with this opinion. Lindgard looked miles ahead of him to be fair. I think AP may well be involved.
I think lvg got burnt lat year by mk dons who are inferior to Ipswich so he won't take too many chances and rightly so imo this is a very important match.

5.) 23 Sep 2015 16:18:02
shap
then why not let him go out on loan.

we have the league , fa and EC who really cares about this cup .

we also have a massive month of football starting with wolfsburg on wed.
i would play kids give them a chance and if we get beat we get beat .

lets be honest maze gets stick for saying lvg can do no right but there is a good few who argue he can do no wrong .

6.) 23 Sep 2015 16:28:29
I think LVG was clear on the matter. Having just played in the U-21 game against Everton, they are not needed for tonight and can rest up for the remainder of this week. They will get their chance when the manager thinks they've earned it. To say he's not promoting youth is ridiculous given that Depay, Martial, and Shaw are now solid first team players. The policy is clearly oriented towards youth, although as much through acquisition as development.

7.) 23 Sep 2015 17:24:13
LVG was very clear on it Shawthing. But some people want to make a big deal about everything.

LVG not giving youth a chance, makes me laugh

8.) 23 Sep 2015 17:31:24
Normally I would think if the youth are good enough they will play, especially in games like this one. In fairness to LVG we have a long way to go in building up relationships with the first team players so it makes sense to keep them going and improve their understanding. I just worry about fitness, a lot of games in a short space of time, the injuries will mount up as niggles and aches are not given time to rest and he pushes them on the training pitch as well.

I also worry about the amount of chances the young players will get to build up their experience (not the £30m+ signings). LVG has shown a reluctance to drop players for poor form, so it really will be an injury crisis that allows the academy players to get a chance, just like it was last season with Blackett & McNair.

9.) 23 Sep 2015 18:56:12
Jred, fron what I've heard Wilson is reluctant to go on loan as he feels that it is the beginning of the end for youngsters.
For me though I think the writing was on the wall for Wilson when we spent an initial 36m on Martial. Who is a very similar type striker to Wilson and is the same age. They are both 6ft, strong and very quick and clinical finishers. If LvG rated Wilson that highly spending that sort of money on Martial makes no sense. But having seen both of them play for the first team I would agree that Martial looks the better prospect and is certainly more refined than Wilson currently.
Wilson needs a loan where he will play every week, probably in the championship to start with. I hope he makes it as I had high hopes for him. Its just starting to look like he will miss the mark.

As for why LvG hasn't sent him on loan I would imagine because we are very light on numbers. We only have Rooney Martial and Wilson who are strikers. Fellaini can play there if really needed but certainly isn't great. So if Wilson left on loan that would just leave us Rooney amd Martial, one hasn't scored in the league yet and the other is new to the league.

As for whether he should be on the bench for tonight? Well I would have thought 90 minutes of competitive football would be better for his development than 90 minutes of bench warming. Unless he was going to get at least 30 minutes tonight I would have let him play for the Under 21's too.

10.) 23 Sep 2015 22:08:43
Beast, how many young players are going to get extended opportunities to shine in any of the top teams? My guess is our average age is now approaching the lowest in the league.

As for the risk of injuries, while I don't disagree, look at Chelsea last year. They played a consistent team without too many changes.

11.) 23 Sep 2015 22:48:29
5th youngest average age Shawthing.

Reports coming out of Spain this morning suggest that De Gea may sign a new contract to solidify his place at United before the Euros but would allow him to leave next summer for a certain fee.

Could this be true?

Nathaniel

{Ed002's Note - I explained the options. This is just speculation right now.}

01 Sep 2015 10:10:28
It's looking more and more likely that it was Real Madrid who messed up the De Gea transfer. I'm not saying that we handled the situation well, because we simply didn't. However it was inevitable that it was going to end messy when dealing with Madrid. They deliberately left their opening bid until the last day to make themselves look they pulled off a late victory. Moreover, the Spanish authorities are now saying that it was Real Madrid who were late with the paper work.

I think us United fans have got to hope that somehow it is resolved because if we end up keeping a player who had his heart set on a move it could be very disruptive. Madrid don't really lose anything because they have a top goalkeeper whom their fans love. If it comes to it and De Gea stays at Old Trafford we've got to hope he can regain focus and play again because a season with Romero in goal could be fatal.

Provided he plays a decent chunk of time this season, Adnan going to Dortmund could be great for him and us. They could turn him in to the player we all wanted him to become on our behalf. Just hope Ed doesn't do something stupid and agree to a view to buy option.

I'd say it's laziness Mort, only see him make runs when there's a decent chance he'll be played through. Doesn't seem interested in making runs to stretch the defence and create space for others.

Wan-Bissaka could potentially be an excellent option to play as a RCB in a back three. Dalot then as RWB. Or either of them just as a RB. Would give the right amount of flexibility.

Lingard and Herrera are two that work their bollocks off and then drop off mid way through the second half in games. I hope that Sanchez can seamlessly fit in to the fluid front three and that will alleviate one problem, Fred should likewise be able to dovetail in the midfield but he's only shown flashes of promise thus far. If both of those start playing like we know they can then we should be able to blitz teams for 90 minutes. Sadly, as Gary Neville said in commentary vs Spurs I don't see where Lukaku or Mata fits in to it.

Considering that Deano is both better and younger than the world's most expensive goalkeeper was when he went for a hefty £71 million, it would take Kante plus £30 million to even entertain the idea.

In the month since the restart he's played 840 minutes of football, or in other words every single minute we've played. It took him 77 days (! ) to rack up that many minutes at the start of the season. He played with painkilling injections at the beginning of 2020. He's had the doctors on the pitch twice following head injuries.

He's never going to live up to that price tag but to criticise him so harshly at the moment is quite frankly ridiculous.

Football and Basketball should never be compared, but if you want to find the NBA equivalent of Roy Keane it's Tim Duncan and can only be Tim Duncan.
