Rumours circulating in media today about Thiago Motta as potential ETH replacement.

Quick google suggests that, if there’s any foundation to the gossip, he’d be a smart choice: quick, vertical football, disciplined, solid defence, good at bringing through players.

Has resonance of what INEOS did at Nice: found lesser-known manager who then focused on coaching.

Would be of value to read Ed's thoughts on the OP.

{Ed002's Note - It is as I have previously stated:
Thiago Motta (C) MIlan are showing some interest in taking Motta in the summer as his coaching career has been picking up and he is well thought of. Will perhaps be considered by former club Barcelona, but they certainly have preferred choices but could look to integrate him in to the larger coaching set up. There has been no approach by Manchester United or Liverpool that I am aware of.}

07 Mar 2024 09:54:36
Thanks for detailed response Ed002 - always good to know what’s really going on, as opposed to Media click-bait.

{Ed002's Note - There is some distance to go still.}

07 Mar 2024 12:48:40
Thank you Ed. Very much appreciated.

07 Mar 2024 16:08:12
He is doing a good job where he is.
We are linked with every room deck and Harry both with players and managers. The hype is predictable and very normal.
As frustrating as it is for supporters its a waiting game for us all.
I think with the introduction of sjr and team we are under the spotlight even more than usual. There is very little other than unknowns for us all.
Considering we all would like to see different things and see things very differently there will be lots of debate and opinions.
We saw even yesterday questions about Dan Ashworths suitably and the methodology of how we went about hiring him.
Impossible to keep everybody happy no matter what they decide.

07 Mar 2024 19:31:06
I am still laughing and getting up of the floor for someone said that Carlo not a good manager, just very lucky one! so I looked up exactly what he won and where, I don’t even want to type the list out because it would rival an essay from you know who and with lots of clubs not just Madrid as was suggested and not just 1 country, and he is the most decorated manager in the history of the game, Jesus if that’s all down to luck does someone know his number so he can buy me some lottery tickets… that remark as got to have an agenda, because like him or not that record is not luck, far far from it.

Probably be in trouble now for saying it, but come on guys credit where it’s due, like saying Pep ain’t no good because he got given money!

07 Mar 2024 22:38:19
Seen us linked with 8 different managers in the last 3 days, would take it all with a pinch of salt.

08 Mar 2024 07:55:51
Strangebloke, you don't READ posts, do you? You pick the bits you want and react. You've been sussed good and proper. Multiple times too it appears. ????.

08 Mar 2024 09:15:12
Absolutely Fizz and he has the cheek to say someone's comments must have an agenda! ?.

08 Mar 2024 10:54:15
Fizz,

This is about his 10th account, he started as maze and has had loads of other names over the years, he usually just stalks Shappy and weirdly knows everything about everyone.

08 Mar 2024 11:31:24
He's a strange bloke for sure G to S.

08 Mar 2024 12:41:16
G2S is it actually the MAZE?

I actually thought maze had a bit of personality, rather than just consistently repeating the same nonsense post after post.

08 Mar 2024 14:05:31
I think it’s the same person yes, was possibly originally rainfishtrombone and I am Kloot as well actually before they were banned and he became Maze. Maybe the stint in Strangeways has changed him into this, the gap in his posting would tally in with a prison stay.

08 Mar 2024 15:57:05
Didn’t he you to pretend I am KLOOT was a clue to who he actually was as if we’re all supposed to know him or am I imagining that?

08 Mar 2024 16:18:47
This is Man Utd page not guess the poster that you appear to be so in love in wasting time about, I have told you million times I am not and never been Maze or none of them names you mention, so sorry Sherlock your wrong again and very dim indeed.

Have you not got nothing to talk about United instead of being infatuated with me…. Only thing I ever see you post is about me, your wife will be getting jealous.

09 Mar 2024 06:08:26
Lol the irony in Strangeways talking about being infatuated with a poster on here ??.

10 Mar 2024 07:12:59
Having been outed by Ed as a troll and banned multiple times, it would be funny to hear his previous personas. ??.

03 Mar 2024 08:08:19
Hi Ed002, has the club got any interest in Olise? Also I've seen rumours that were looking at Miguel Gutierrez from Girona and Ederson from Atalanta. Any truth in that? Thanks.

{Ed002's Note - Michael Olise (RW/AM) PSG and Manchester City want him as cover although the departure of Mahrez last summer will mean more opportunities now, but the RW position is effectively Foden's. If de Bruyne or Silva were to depart, he becomes an option again. Crystal Palace has no real interest in selling but know that Chelsea want to take Olise back to Stamford Bridge and Olise has made clear that one day he wants to be playing with his brother. Down the list of AM players Chelsea want but they will again perhaps push for him. His representative has said no other clubs have made an approach for Olise - but maybe Klopp's obsession with Chelsea Academy players will continue as Liverpool have sent scouts - but they will have preferred targets to replace Salah. Manchester United have also sent scouts. Will be available in the summer when a significant release clause will need to be met.

Miguel Gutierrez (LWB) Moved to Girona from Real Madrid who retain a nominal 50% of his rights and can buy him back for a fixed fee of double what they sold him for - so €8M total. Bayern Munich fear losing Alphonso Davies and have Gutierrez as their first choice replacement if that happens. Chelsea have spoken to Girona about the player and both Manchester United and Manchester City have sent scouts.

Ederson (CM) Having a good season and attracting interest from Newcastle, Liverpool and Burnley. Burnley would not be attractive and the situation with Liverpool may well change.}

Thank you Ed002.

27 Feb 2024 20:05:53
Hello Ed who are the club thinking could replace EtH in the Summer?

Thank you.

{Ed002's Note - Antonio Conte (C) Milan offer a solution but there is a lot of opposition. Wildcard may be Manchester United and Jim Ratcliffe knows Conte from his time at Chelsea. A serious option for Bayern Munich.
Gareth Southgate (C) May be a safe bet for Manchester United - but a widlcard at best.
Graham Potter (C) A serious option for Manchester United and West Ham United. Has ties to Jim Ratcliffe and was offered the job at Nice.
Hansi Flick (C) A move to England this summer seems very unlikely although Manchester United could turn to him but, again, well down the list. Chelsea and Real Madrid may discuss him based on need. Barcelona has him as an option – and close to the top of the list. Will have strong support from the Barcelona Board. Do not completely rule out a return to Bayern Munich.
Luis Enrique (C) A wildcard for Manchester United. Not the answer
Roberto de Zerbi (C) Brighton would fight to keep him but another who will certainly be discussed by Barcelona, Liverpool and Manchester United with Jim Ratcliff having an interest in him. A significant issue exists in the cost of Brighton releasing him. Deco has de Zerbi as his preferred option which he has shared with Yuste and Laporte but it will not be Deco's decision.
Ruben Amorin (C) Manchester United may offer an option - a wildcard may be Liverpool, but not first choice. If needs force the situation and given the likely link between the club and Sporting, Chelsea may offer another wildcard option.
Thomas Tuchel (C) On the list of options for Barcelona. Manchester United may provide an option as he knows Jim Ratcliffe well.
Xabi Alonso (C) A popular choice for clubs and having a great season at Bayer Leverkusen, but very inexperienced, although there will be interest in him from Liverpool, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Chelsea and Manchester United. Has made no secret of a desire to follow Ancelotti at Real Madrid - but that won't be until 2026 so they can be discounted at this time although he has the support of Carlo Ancelotti. Klopp has endorsed both Alonso and Nagelsmann for the Liverpool job. Bayern Munich offer a serious option. If he were to win the league this season it would likely make it very difficult for him to leave Leverkusen and there would be significant pressure to stay. There are no clauses in his contract allowing him to leave to join any other club.
Zinedine Zidane (C) I understand an advisor has told Liverpool not to discount Zindane after discussions over another job for him are delayed pending a change of club ownership. However, I think Liverpool a very unlikely option. He would perhaps like to await the Juventus or perhaps the Manchester United job. Wildcard would be Bayern Munich.}

Great list ed, for me Potter and Amorim may be the best fit for United.

Others will like de zerbi but there's something about him I'm just not sure of.

I would not be keen on Conte, Tuchel, Zidane and especially not Southgate.

28 Feb 2024 12:49:58
Brilliant info as always Ed002 - thank you very much!

28 Feb 2024 12:55:21
Excusing any expertise whatsoever in what United need and being, I’d prefer one of Potter, Amorim, Alonso or de Zerbi.

Definitely not Conte, Tuchel, Zidane or Southgate.

Surprised Nagelsman or McKenna not on the list.

28 Feb 2024 13:15:31
Thanks ed, any interest in Nagelsmann?

{Ed002's Note - From elsewhere.}

28 Feb 2024 13:32:19
Rio Ferdinand reckons Arteta will take the job if offered. ???.

28 Feb 2024 13:38:19
I thought Tuchel did a good job at Chelsea and PSG and comes across well in his media appearances so would support him replacing ETH.

28 Feb 2024 13:38:18
I think Ratcliffe said the style of football will come from the football director (and others in leadership) and the coach will implement that. It's not clear that EtH will be replaced but I'd imagine by the summer we'll have a clearer picture of the aims and that list will whittle down. I'd be surprised if Conte and Tuchel were considered. Neither appear to be suited to a rebuild.

28 Feb 2024 15:02:46
Ed002, do you think that there is still a chance that they will keep ETH for next season and give him time to work under them?

{Ed002's Note - My opinion is unchanged really. I expect he will be one of the coaches changed after July 1.}

28 Feb 2024 16:21:47
Ed002. Thanks.
Can I ask the significance of the date July 1st or why do you say after that date?

{Ed002's Note - It takes it in to a new year.}

28 Feb 2024 16:57:58
Cheers Ed - thanks for the update on potential managers!

Out of the list above:
-Who do you think would be the top 2 or 3 options for MUFC and working with Ashworth?

-Who is looking like the most likely appointment (perhaps there is still too long to go to have frontrunner at the minute) .

No worries if you don't want to get into it further.

Thanks and appreciate you and the other Eds continued contributions!

{Ed002's Note - I suspect Potter might be the most likely.}

28 Feb 2024 19:16:33
——-youn need to stop posting and sharing your ignorance about things you know nothing about. It is embarrassing and stupid———

28 Feb 2024 20:26:43
Thanks for all your input Ed002: Potter wouldn’t surprise me either, given his relationship with Ashworth (and that he’s available)

28 Feb 2024 23:02:13
Yeah I think potter too

But tbh, don't see why ETH doesn't at least get a crack at it with a proper structure.

29 Feb 2024 06:43:52
I suspect a lot of people will turn their nose up at Potter.

Mostly based on his short time at Chelsea. The irony is that both Potter and EtH have been in charge of horrifically ran clubs which meant they were effectively working with one hand tied behind their back.

I don't think for one second what either achieved with both clubs is indicative of their true ability and what they are capable of.

I'll be honest I'll have a wry smile on my face if Potter does replace EtH when thinking about all those fans who are pushing for the Dutchman to get sacked.

I think their heads might explode ?.

29 Feb 2024 08:54:17
Surprised not to see Poch’s name on there for when he is inevitably binned by Chelsea in the summer….

As for ten Hag, I suspect a good job back at Ajax or in Germany would await him.

28 Feb 2024 22:23:44
Who’d be your pick if you were In charge Ed?

{Ed002's Note - Perhaps Ruben Amorim.}

29 Feb 2024 09:45:33
It’s an interesting comparison you made Shappy.

I remember clearly that a lot of people on here were clambering for Potter while he was at Brighton.

Back then he was at a very well run club on the up. Then at Chelsea he struggled - understandably - in and amongst their circus.

ETH is in the exact same position, only I’d argue that ETH has had a lot more to deal with at Manchester United than Potter at Chelsea, at least it seems that way from the outside.

You could argue that both managers took too big of a jump. Seeing how they got on at a Villa/ Spurs/ Dortmund/ Milan level of club may have been sensible and a more natural stepping stone in their career.

29 Feb 2024 11:18:39
Ten Hag will make a fine Alonso replacement in Germany.

29 Feb 2024 13:48:59
I was not in favour of Potter at the time and the fact he has not worked since does not fill me with confidence.
My reservations are irrelevant if that's who they choose them they will have their reasons and I think he would have us better off than we are now or I hope so anyway.
De zerbi would by my choice off that list, I think he would be a good fit from the little I know about him.
Stiff competition and a hefty fee to aquire his services but if they believe he is the right man then he is worth pursuing.

29 Feb 2024 19:38:40
There doesn't seem much love-in for Zidane who seems to be on most of these short-lists. Supposedly (not that I know) his English isn't the best but I can barely understand di Zerbi or Emery and they're doing ok. In fact I thought it contributed to his Arsenal demise. Zidane would have a field day with our midfield.

{Ed002's Note - Zidane speaks reasonable, but not perfect, English. Like Harry Redknapp.}

29 Feb 2024 21:52:47
Interesting Amorim sounds like he would be a positive and an interesting choice from what I read about him.

The key for me is that whoever is appointed is that we get away from demanding 5 years minimum stay to allow the manager to take us in a direction none of us knows will be successful. Appoint a First team coach, give him a direction from above on how the team is to play and if we selected right it should work better. If it doesn't, move on after a period that the DOF or above deems is reasonable, be that 1, 2 years or longer.

01 Mar 2024 09:11:48
Ed2 I hope you don’t mind me asking, what are your thoughts on Potter as a manager? I know it didn’t work out at Chelsea, but from the outside it looked like there was so much going on it would be one of the hardest jobs in football.

Do you think he could do well for us provided we have the correct structure and environment?

{Ed002's Note - Potter will certainly be a consideration. The circumstances at Chelsea were difficult. The issue is that the infrastructure he had at Brighton was excellent and that has now gone.}

01 Mar 2024 17:37:02
Potter……. give me strength. We’ve got a bloody good manger who we should stick with, cracked the whip with the cry babies. Eric gets my vote.

01 Mar 2024 23:33:18
I’d quite to see Erik backed under the correct structure above any of the options above. But clearly not my choice so let’s see what the summer brings.

02 Mar 2024 08:15:34
Many thanks for the update Ed.

You mentioned a while back that a significant number of players could leave the club this Summer. Is Marcus Rashford someone the club are looking to move on? From an FFP perspective, it would make sense.

{Ed002's Note - Perhaps, but is nothing to do with FFP.

Marcus Rashford (F) Much will depend on what happens in the summer regarding a new coach, but I am sure Manchester United will be regretting the new long-term contract. A third-party has spoken to clubs about him but I am not aware of any interest. Suggestion that he could be a Mbappe replacement at PSG seem far-fetched given they have other clear targets in mind.

02 Mar 2024 12:38:02
The new contract is certainly starting to look like a mistake. It feels like a ‘would suit all parties’ if he were to leave.

Thanks as ever Ed.

02 Mar 2024 20:13:28
Seriously do not understand why so many are backing Potter like he is an improvement. We've seen what he can do at a big club. Stay well away.

Give ETH one more year then put it to the jury.

03 Mar 2024 13:53:31
Yea Kurtis as other managers have proved at Chelsea they are a really big club.

05 Mar 2024 08:39:49
I know this thread is never ending, but have been thinking on the above some more. I just don’t see how anything other than an experienced coach can take this role right now in the summer.

Potter, no doubt a fine coach, feels too raw and slightly too defensive to suit our proposed style of play.

I can’t see beyond someone like Tuchel for the role right now, as patience and time is not something offer to a young coach finding their feet at Utd. Just look how much the tide has turned in the dressing room and out of it for ETH!

05 Mar 2024 09:16:16
Not familiar with Potter’s management style (can a Brighton fan be kind enough to add info here to enlighten us pls? ) but comes across on the media as a thoughtful coach but lacking the charisma of a Klopp, Ange or Guardiola - a quality I think is essential at a top club.

Though hard to think of younger coaches who have this quality - Nagelsman maybe? Amorim?

05 Mar 2024 11:38:10
I’d be cautious of taking anybody directly from Brighton, that includes Potter and de Zerbi. The club is so well run and conditions are perfect for a coach to be successful, on the scale of what success looks like for Brighton.

Keep in mind, as good a job as De Zerbi has done, has won 5 out of his last 20 league matches. That’d see him getting sacked at Utd, Chelsea etc.

The club needs someone who has won trophies and knows how to get this done.

27 Feb 2024 11:49:11
Rumours onana from everton is a serious target. personally would be delighted if we got him.

Excellent player and everything you want in number 6, physical, athletic fast. Perfect age and imo Everton's best player and very underrated. He will be star in a team with better players around him.

It was hard watching Ericksen vs fulham and felt bad for the guy. Cas also looking like leaving and a major wage the club will want off the books.

I know we have looked at palacios from leverkusen in the past but prefer onana.

Agree7 Disagree0

27 Feb 2024 12:18:14
Really? where do you hear that rumour?
I think he is a good player.
He does not fit the profile of an eth type deep lying midfielder so I'd be surprised if eth has put his name forward
I thought we might wait for our new DOF to be in place before we start showing serious interest in new players.
He was linked with Newcastle this year so there might be some truth in that or it might be more click bait.
Reading today alone on one website we have been linked with 8 different players and none of them are from what I would consider a reliable source.
That will continue daily between now and the window closing at the end of aug.

27 Feb 2024 12:50:34
Ken I’d imagine Dan Ashworth is doing a few off the record hours a week.

27 Feb 2024 14:23:03
He was linked to us last year and even ed002 mentioned he is on our list. Arsenal are also interested in him.

Don't follow not being a eth type player, has everything you want in a number 6. height, speed, technically excellent and athletic at 22/ 23 years old and quite durable. He will end up moving to top club imo with everton having to sell to rectify ffp issues.

27 Feb 2024 15:50:10
You may have watched him more closely than I have Ahmad, I saw him last season and thought this kid has a bright future, but he seems to have not only stagnated but even regressed. At present the glimpses i catch are like a poor version of his teammate A. Doucoure. I do hope I am wrong and he is much more what you rate him as than the picture of Fellaini i have in my head :D.

27 Feb 2024 17:30:00
You think he has everything you think you want in a no6.
He doesn't play as a 6 for Everton in the way eth would like his 6 to play as he doesn't have those attributes.
Can he be converted?
That will be a matter for the coach next season if we sign him.

27 Feb 2024 18:53:11
Caolin, I very much doubt Dan Ashworth is doing anything of the sort. Utd and he would be in serious risk of litigation if they were doing that. He is under contract and no doubt has non compete clauses a plenty.

27 Feb 2024 21:29:37
Ross Barklay looking decent and weird rumour Jim wanta him not sure if he the answer.

28 Feb 2024 06:22:41
I doubt it will matter if anyone suits ETH style (whatever that is) because I would hazard a guess the chances of him being anywhere near United next season are very slim, just hopefully when he goes the coaches Antony, Onana, Arambat all share the same taxi and ETH also takes his childish naughty step with him too!

28 Feb 2024 06:43:47
Ahmad that was just another very weak excuse to beat the manager. Of course Ken has absolutely no idea which players the manager rates or whether or not he’d like to sign Onana from Everton. It’s becoming an obsession.

28 Feb 2024 08:44:36
MBD

I think Docoure is quite poor, who kind of plays as a 8/ 10 for Everton and we don't really need to buy for that unless Bruno goes and even then Mount potentially steps in. Docoure gives it away a lot imo and has poor composure, wasteful and clumsy. Onan will move to much greener pastures imo and have many suitors.

This is a very divided page on players ours or elsewhere.

I would sell Bruno before rash, which i reckon would be in the minority.

I like mount and rate him highly but would have proffered maddison but got slaughtered here last year for saying that:)

Still think mount will be an excellent player for us if his injuries are not something that will linger going forward.

28 Feb 2024 09:17:23
Waxza. Onana is not the type of play making 6 that eth prefers. Onana I think is a good player.
How us that a reason to beat the manager
I'm not sure you are reading properly.
???
I'm sure the penny will be dropping with you soon enough.

28 Feb 2024 11:19:44
I'm on the fence with Onana, he has several good qualities, strong, good in the air, good defensive reading.

However, there are a few concerns I have with him. He's a not quick over the first 10 yards and his mobility can be an issue when defending large spaces as he can't close ground quickly. I think he only works in a double pivot due to this and probably shouldn't play as a single pivot as he'd have too much ground to cover.
The other concern I have with him is his on the ball contribution. He isn't terrible but his passing tends to be short, sideways and safe passes. I don't think he has the passing range for a top side competing for top honours.

He will have to play with a well rounded No.8 alongside him who can be the guy to press the opposition and close down space quickly, as well as having the ability to progress the ball well with his passing.

Otherwise we would have issues both effectively shielding the defence AND progressing the ball through midfield.

For me the biggest issue we have in midfield is an inability on the ball. We don't have enough guys who can play the ball through midfield quickly and effectively. No one who can get on the ball and own it, keep it and change/ control the tempo of the game.

I don't think Onana solves this issue and would 100% need another signing made to play alongside him to offer that technical ball playing ability.

28 Feb 2024 11:32:45
Hey wazza have you ever seen the movie 'a few good men' worth a watch.

28 Feb 2024 12:17:25
Ed002 are we interested in onana? Where do you see him going? Thanks.

{Ed002's Note - Amadou Onana (DM/CB/CM) Only moved to Everton in 2022 and they are not looking to sell him but with troubles mounting they may have to listen to offers. West Ham interest has moved on but Arsenal may look again after failing to agree alternatives. Newcastle spoke with Everton in the summer and have failed to sign their primary DM/CM target but will return again this summer. Manchester United had him a long way down their list of targets but failed to sign preferred options in the summer and he may still be of interest, but I rather doubt it. Chelsea have him on a list of midfield options but not at the top, and Barcelona may look to some horsetrading but they have to deal with their own financial issues.}

28 Feb 2024 15:17:38
I think we need to not just be looking at an individuals attributes but looking at who is going to complement and get the best out of Mainoo and whoever else plays in there. Mainoo, Mount plus one other could be a really strong Midfield. Not sure if Onana is that one. I'd opt for Douglas Luiz or Paulinha ahead of Onana if they were options. I'm.

29 Feb 2024 13:57:46
Boubacar Kamara would be my first choice, very good on the ball, good positional discipline, not sure about Douglas Luiz though, not sure he offers enough control. I would prefer either Joao Palhinha or Pierre Hojbjerg to Douglas Luiz, and both would cost significantly less than what Villa would demand for Luiz, especially Hojbjerg. Onana would also be a pretty solid choice though and presumably Everton can't afford to hold clubs to ransom.

M. U. F. C. officially announce the purchase of shares by SJR has been completed.

Yay! let the start of the rebirth begin.

Agree5 Disagree0

20 Feb 2024 22:17:20
So he now owns 27.7% because the £200m investment was in return for shares and he will put in another £100m by the end of the year in return for another 1%, is that correct, and that makes him the largest single owner at United.

21 Feb 2024 09:10:41
He has a mixture of the A and B shares. The B shares are worth more than the A shares.

The B shares are what the Glazers own.

21 Feb 2024 13:29:31
That's right Mad Hatter, the B shares have increased voting rights.

I believe it's 10 votes per B share, while it's 1 for A. Up until now all the B shares were owned by the Glazer family.

21 Feb 2024 14:10:39
Great news.

21 Feb 2024 16:13:20
Surely he’ll start picking off the other glazer siblings shares or is it not that simple?

{Ed002's Note - It is not that simple.}

21 Feb 2024 16:29:38
Fair enough.

21 Feb 2024 19:25:57
Doable though ports. I'm sure that's the long term plan.

22 Feb 2024 10:45:08
If he wants to eventually own all of it he has to take the club off the public market which he has done to every company he has purchased before and find a solution like he did in his initial purchase which listening to him was quite complicated.

22 Feb 2024 13:25:13
Thought he came across really well in the interview. Probably said enough in ten seconds to give some hope and optimism that no-one else at the club has said in a decade.

22 Feb 2024 17:24:06
Agree Spenno ?.

24 Feb 2024 08:21:02
He came across very well.

He clearly does not indulge fluff and nonsense, which you expect from hugely successful people.

In an odd way it’s left me wanting to watch it again - aside from the topic he’s somewhat inspirational in the way he handles himself.

16 Feb 2024 23:37:58
Ed, I know this is an impossible question to answer but if you could, with all rumours surrounding the new “leadership” with regard to football at United, how many transfers in realistically could you see at United this summer? 3 or 4 seems to be fairly standard for a “rebuild”, Chelsea last year was completely out of the ordinary but what in your opinion could happen at United? I appreciate this is a very ambiguous question.

{Ed002's Note - There will be a total of 16 departures.}

Agree1 Disagree7

17 Feb 2024 09:55:13
Is that how many people are out of contract by any chance?

{Ed002's Note - No.}

17 Feb 2024 10:30:05
Are they all playing staff?

{Ed002's Note - Of course.}

17 Feb 2024 13:53:53
Never know if you’re playing with us or not Ed002!

Reports floating about that we’re interested in Mathys Tel from Bayern - any truth to these rumours please Ed?

{Ed002's Note - Mathys Tel (F) Bayern are not looking to sell and whilst there may be interest from Spurs it would not be as a Kane replacement. Tel's representative is a complete flake and has constantaly linked the player with other clubs and says that Manchester United scouts spotted him whilst watching another player. He has also cited Liverpool and Arsenal constantly ringing him. Marseille offered a return to France as a starter but his value has gone up considerably since then. The player has made it clear he wants to stay at Bayern Munich.}

17 Feb 2024 14:56:12
Brilliant detailed info - thank you for your swift and insightful response!

17 Feb 2024 15:28:15
Ed002 are you sure it's 16? Can you tell us if there is a liklihood or possibility that there may be a deviation from that number or if you can give an idea of timings of the 16 exits? ?.

{Ed002's Note - It will be exactly 16.}

17 Feb 2024 15:39:59
Can you lads not detect sarcasm. Ed is in the know but not a clairvoyant!

17 Feb 2024 16:05:34
brilliant ed002 lol. made me laugh so hard.

17 Feb 2024 18:58:43
If only the original post asked about how many departures.

18 Feb 2024 19:45:10
Lolll he fell for it that has to be the funniest rubbisht.

16 Feb 2024 07:09:47
I read Utd want Jason Wilcox from Southampton as the new DoF.

Is he a good choice for Utd Ed002?

{Ed002's Note - Not as Director of Football but to head recruitment and focus on younger players. This will be the direct choice of Omar Berrada. He did well with the kids at Manchester City.}

Agree3 Disagree12

16 Feb 2024 09:33:34
ED002,

Will Murtough remain as a DOF or will he be moved into a new role?

{Ed002's Note - Murtough is being replaced.}

16 Feb 2024 09:43:42
Thanks ED002.

16 Feb 2024 15:49:23
Let's hope Wilcox improved after his career change from a player.

16 Feb 2024 16:06:14
I’d assume ed this means moving forward there will be a greater emphasis on signing younger players?

Very interesting appiointment imo.

16 Feb 2024 16:17:47
Spenno. He did win the Premier league so he couldn't have been that bad.

16 Feb 2024 19:22:42
Bolton lad.

16 Feb 2024 20:21:42
Thought he was a quality player, and he did a great job at City. Southampton are also now a very young and exciting side.

Smart moves by smart people.

17 Feb 2024 12:18:33
The rumours are that the club are looking at Wilcox as a head of youth development and recruitment.

Supposedly this is the same role they considered Paul Mitchell for but he wanted a bigger role (DoF) .

What excites me most about his is that the club are seemingly wanted someone who will effectively be tasked with helping provide players for the first team from BOTH the academy and from recruitment.

Having someone whose role includes youth development seems to suggest that the new way the club will be run is to closely include and look to promote from the academy. This providing pathways for young players. Looking at the academy and the players within it, when they might be ready and if they will be good enough and to factor that in when recruiting players.

Things like looking at young players who might be a season or two away from breaking into the first team so actively choosing not to sign a long term player in that position that would only block that youth player.

For example if they coaches think Shea Lacey will be ready to push into the first team squad towards the end of next season/ the start of 2025/ 26 season then do they spend 60-80m on a new RW player in their early 20's like Olise or Neto?

Having someone in a role whose job includes promoting young academy players alongside signing players seems a great way forward if the club want to continue our proud tradition of giving youth a chance and developing young players.

{Ed002's Note - A kick in the gonads for Nick Cox I am told.}

17 Feb 2024 14:59:01
Hope they keep Nick Cox on - always comes across as a really genuine football man passionate about the careers of the youngsters he’s in charge of.

19 Feb 2024 08:59:38
Me too Wallace. I've no idea if this new role will merge the head of the academy or work alongside it.

21 Feb 2024 09:19:16
I listened to Nick Cox on Talk of the Devils the other day. Sounded like a great fella.

I really loved his outlook and how he marks success. Not in trophies but about how many of the kids go on to have careers be it at Manchester United or another club.

Shame is this is a kick in the gonads. It looked as though he was doing a good job from the outside looking in.

Any knowledge of Nick Cox ed?

14 Feb 2024 19:24:41
A few places reporting that Dan Ashworth is close to agreeing a deal to become sporting director. Ed has anything changed regarding this? Also, how is he regarded within his role compared to others within the industry?

{Ed002's Note - He remains an option if compensation can be agreed. He would be a reasonable option.}

Agree3 Disagree6

14 Feb 2024 22:43:18
Are they also looking to bring in a recruitment special-ist alongside him?

{Ed002's Note - Yes.}

15 Feb 2024 06:38:40
Good Morning Ed002

Hope all is well. Is there a clear sum for compensation in these things or an arbitrary number the two clubs need to agree on.

{Ed002's Note - Yes, Manchester United will be told what it is, or may have been already.}

15 Feb 2024 08:45:00
ED002,

Whobin your opinion would be the best option?

{Ed002's Note - Paul Mitchell would have been.}

15 Feb 2024 09:16:02
Ed002, "reasonable" option sounds like you feel there would be a better option, or am I reading too much into that?

{Ed002's Note - Paul Mitchell.}

15 Feb 2024 09:50:51
Ed is he definitely going to Roma?

{Ed002's Note - He is not interested in taking what Manchester United have offered him. Could be a huge mistake,}

15 Feb 2024 09:58:52
Mitchell was the name that lots of us wanted for years and it would be great if he was brought in. I imagine he will not want to take the role below Sporting Director and rumour is he pulled out of the running a while back (maybe realised he was not being looked at) .
I am excited about Ashworth if it comes off however, one of the top in the position, appears to have a detailed knowledge of players all over the world. Looking at what he has done at previous clubs we should be excited by his appointment.
I would expect we also bring in someone below him on recruitment to form a strong partnership with Berrada.

{Ed002's Note - His knowledge came from the scouts and recruitment team at Brighton.}

15 Feb 2024 11:08:09
Hi Ed002, do you think there is a chance of us recruiting any of that team from Brighton? Thanks.

{Ed002's Note - No, they are largely no longer at Brighton.}

15 Feb 2024 11:24:23
Thanks for all info Ed002. Do you think Ashworth will return to Brighton to tempt Sam Jewell to United as head of recruitment? Seen rumours that Chelsea also looking to sign him….

{Ed002's Note - No.}

19 Feb 2024 17:32:10
As Sporting director Mitchell woukd have responsibilities he hasn’t had experience in before. I think Ashworth is the best option for the sporting director role. He’s widely regarded as gold standard for the role.

21 Feb 2024 09:20:13
A huge mistake by Mitchell ed?

{Ed002's Note - No, Manchester United.}

21 Feb 2024 15:06:25
Thanks Ed. I presume they are not giving him the position he wants.

{Ed002's Note - No - so he is not interested.}

10 Feb 2024 08:53:18
We are apparently watching young players in Argentina, probably along with other clubs. The names mentioned are Franco Mastantuono, Aaron Anselmino, Ian Subiabre and Tomas Parmo.

Agree7 Disagree0

10 Feb 2024 17:23:12
This makes total sense and assume we have been doing this all along just not acting on many . I think we were in for alveres of City.
We need to be exploring all markets for the best value young players.

13 Feb 2024 21:20:38
I think we would all applaud this kind of policy, however these youngsters have to come into an environment where they can develop, fulfil their potential and have a route to the first team

Without that in place, these players will just be wasting their time coming to us.

05 Feb 2024 18:12:10
Just released. The knee injury to Martinez is indeed serious and he’s expected to be out for at least 2 months. ?.

Agree3 Disagree0

05 Feb 2024 19:24:36
Could have been worse, others needs to step up.

05 Feb 2024 20:19:29
It's ok, he'll be back for the title run-in.

05 Feb 2024 20:21:23
Saw the list of games and think only City that we will really miss him for. Rest of games with Varane, Maguire and Lindelof back now should be able to cope.

05 Feb 2024 20:59:36
Especially with two weeks international including, after the rumours last night I’d say 8 weeks is good news!

05 Feb 2024 22:20:54
Bet he doesn't figure again this season and we don't have anyone anywhere near as good as cover.

06 Feb 2024 09:58:09
I think that depends on a number of factors Salford.
If we are in race for top 4 and need him then it maybe that he plays but if there is no hope for 4th then perhaps he won't play again this season and in that scenario it might be for the best.

07 Feb 2024 08:27:52
I agree what's the point of rushing him back if we are out of things. I know they said 8 weeks but knee injuries are tricky and I would not risk it at all.

Huge game this weekend folks. We beat villa and we will reel in both spurs and villa imo with 14 games to go.

We have very tough games later vs city, Liverpool and Arsenal with 2 being at home and will drop points but so will all the other teams above us. I have a feeling we will decide who wins the Pl Title this year even if we are not in it. Would be great if we crush liverpool's chances:) anyone but them imo.

07 Feb 2024 09:51:02
Martinez isn't the type of player that will want to sit it out on the side lines, he will want to back playing ASAP even if it means playing the last 3-4 games.
The guy is a winner through and through.

09 Feb 2024 09:56:28
It's a totally different injury to his foot so there shouldn't be any issues with that.

However, knee ligament injuries need to be given ample time to fully heal or you risk reinjuring it if you try to come back too soon.

Ultimately a players health should always be put above the sporting aspirations of the club.

If we have to wait an extra few weeks for him to come back then that's what we need to do.

I'd rather miss him for an extra few games this season then risk him reinjuring it, missing pre-season and maybe the start of next season.

This season is pretty much done for us at this point. Bar a run in the FA cup and an outside chance of top four. But to get top four now probably means a big drop off in form from one of the teams up there already as well as us putting a consistent run together.

For me this season now is mostly about getting players fit, giving youth an opportunity to develop and having a go in the FA cup.

09 Feb 2024 11:26:50
Shappy

No so fast my friend, a win this weekend and we are right there. Spurs and villa have to play each other and they also have a tougher remaining fixture list imo. 14 games after this weekend 5 point gap is really nothing. Its all up to us and I am an optimist:)

10 Feb 2024 09:23:06
Ahmad, and a loss to Villa this weekend and it's an 8 point gap with 13 games left to play.

We've managed to play better in the last few games since we got a few players back from injury. Martinez being probably the key one. Unfortunately he's now injured again.

Our form is finely balanced on keeping players fit. A couple of injuries and our season falls apart again.

I'm optimistic that we can get top four, but I'm tempering that optimism with the reality that injuries could well derail our season again as they have the first half of the season. While we also need two teams above us to drop more points than us over the remaining fixtures.

Which means that the odds are slightly stacked against us. Can we beat the odds? Sure of course we can. But I wouldn't be banking on it or expecting it.

10 Feb 2024 10:01:13
Shappy

I agree a loss would be 11 point gap and then it too far gone. I think we will win a tough/ close game 2-1 or 3-2 imo if villa show up. we will show up and If Martinez was playing I would have us winning with bigger margin. The options as cb pairings don't give me a lot of confidence, the rest of the pitch we are good imo.
