Much needed result for England, a nice change from the regularly disappointing opening result.

It was much like watching United at times and that was largely down to Young doing lots of nothing in the final third.

Right now there's an 80% chance of Young and Valencia being our starting full backs again next season, which is slightly soul destroying if I'm honest.

As the dust settles on the domestic season one point Saturdays game highlighted was the importance of a good goalkeeper, I would stretch it to defence as well. I remember Paddy Roache throwing it in our net and if you have played you will know it undermines everything further forward, defenders play looking over their shoulder, playing a yard deeper to cover for when the goalkeeper drops it. It can define where the teams sets up on the pitch. I recall SAF used to expect his central defenders to deal one on one with forwards, if they couldn't they shouldn't be playing. Confidence flows from the back so people don't have to look over their shoulders.

Karius was a broken man at the end of the game, I can't see those in front of him being able to look forward with confidence in future . One point hasn't been made to my knowledge. We know his own players didn't console him and various excuses have been given. However it is my take that the players were angry at what it cost them but also it hasn't been said that Karius was Klopps man, absolutely Klopps decision and I wonder if there was some resentment of the manager as well as the player for them being put in that position. It wouldn't be admitted but in the circumstances on the pitch at the end if I had been them I would have thought that. To see Klopp singing and dancing at 6am is somewhat surprising, can't imagine SAF would have finished the shouting by then. Up to them but winners don't sing and dance after losing, it hurts and I would imagine SAF would have been setting up to win the next one.

The importance of defence and keeper as a base is clear and I sense that to push our back line up 10 to 15 yards we and the manager wants confidence in the defenders. When we have bought the players this summer, the manager must be in a position of confidence and push the back line higher. We shall see next season but I expect that to happen as long as the right players come in and no one has to look over their shoulder.

All those players tonight crying like girls, was really doing me head in. Then Karius took it to a whole new level, and tried to catch the ball like one as well.

I hope you guys appreciate it more, than my wife just did.

How many times did bale hint he wanted to leave in that interview.

Regardless of his injury record. He is class. when fit.

We've had countless debates on here if he's worth the risk.

Super relieved! Hope Salah s fine. The game missed him. On that note, if ever one of our guys score 44 in a season I sure as hell hope we win something or the other.

The Scousers combined team had Karius in goal and no mention of Bale. Wow have you seen a worse keeper?
