I think our bench said as much about our squad as needed saying. There were no game changers to bring on. Sometimes it doesn't quite click for the team, see city yesterday who were 2 nil down at half time, that was not dissimilar to us in terms of the team just not performing. But look what they had on the bench, we have no game changers outside of the first 11. Maybe if lukaku wasn't injured it would have been different as we'd have had a different threat to bring on, but one injured striker and we were down to the bare bones.

I'm not too upset with ole not making the change earlier for that exact reason. Granted maybe mata could have made a difference, but there's some distance between bringing on mata to change a game and bringing on aguero.

We quite simply need reinforcements. We need maybe 16 first team quality players if we want to be competing at the top. We have maybe 13 at best.

Well that was disappointing, really poor. Feel like games, tiredness and injury caught up finally, reintroducing maybe too many who've recently come back from injury.
Back to back defeats for Ole, now we will see if the players are really up for the fight.

Awful match again, bad tactics, terrible level of effort and poor performances all over the pitch again the only team we have at the club who play anything like a Manchester United team should do is the ladies team, brilliant attitude, always putting in maximum effort, good tactics, some wonderful set piece routines and lovely attacking play always.

You are aware the ladies team bought loads of players who are top level and are playing in the 2nd level? If they weren't winning every game 5-0 it would be disappointing.

16 Mar 2019 21:52:21
The last two games the squad has looked completely shagged out. I wonder if the players have the fitness levels to play at such an intense level on a sustained basis. Injuries haven't helped either.

Ole needs a full pre season to fully transform us. Both fitness and personnel wise.

He's shown what he can do, and I still back him.

What level are we talking about Fresh? The performance yesterday was third grade and if that is the level we are being offered then i am afraid we made the wrong decision. again.

16 Mar 2019 21:50:15
Absolute credit to wolves. Out played and out fought us from start to finish.

Passion and energy and well and truly deserved that.

We were slow lacked any movement and of not for the keeper would have lost that by a few more

Onto to us we've got some waking up to do.

We've got 2 week break and need to Give everything to get top 4.

Off day today 2 losses in a row but please don't start losing the plot and blaming the manager the players have let manager the fans and the club down.

We move on to the next game and let's hope we wake up.

Remind me again Bolger please, why did we sack Jose Mourinho? I said it then and i will say it again. It IS the players' fault. They decide when to show up and play.

16 Mar 2019 21:49:00
Our whole approach was negative, if Mourinho had taken this tactic there would have been massive criticism, this wasn't acceptable. Sorry but that tonight shows Ole is not that right choice.

One game shows he isn't the right choice? Are we back to judging staff on a game by game basis now? I've never heard such nonsense, judging the future of a potential manager, off the back of one game. Talk about over-reaction.

I mentioned it on the live chat, and you never answered me, but under José, it was always the players fault for not doing what he was telling them, but now it's Ole's fault?

Get over it, Red Man, he's not coming back. And I know Ole's record so far flies in the face of all your management mantra of experience/ plan/ cv etc, but your rush to denigrate him is frankly embarassing.

I saw recently, you were still backing Poch for the job, despite him losing a few games. Yet Ole's not right after one defeat and poor performance.

The double standards are embarrassing.

Stevie, its been poor performance after poor performance after poor. We were gifted the PSG game, almost as if it were fixed. We were poor against Arsenal, hell, we have been poor for 75% of the games under Ole and just the results have papered over the cracks.

If it was the players fault then, why did we sack Jose? Why different yardsticks. Ole simply has no tactics. Throwing on Mata in the 85th minute for Gods sake. Why did he wait till we went 2 down. that's Wolves we are talking about not even a top team. And you know the worst part is, the result was almost a given the way we started. Any tean that let's us have the possession and plays deep, we are screwed because Ole has no tactics on how to break them down. You can almost see it in his eyes the way he sat there doing nothing

Wake up and open your eyes and don't be a sentimental fool. The honeymoon period or the rebound is over. The players have again decided not to show up and play. I just hope City and Liverpool win the lot. That ought to give a tight slap on the face of the dinosaurs board of directors of the once great Manchester United.

I have consistently said we should wait until the end of the season to make a decision although after PSG it was hard not to see them giving him a contract. Mourinho isn’t coming back but the double standards are people like you who criticised Jose for negative defensive tactics but accept them from Ole

We have lost two vital games in a row, SAF almost never did that yet people talk of Ole as the second coming. SAF would have ensured we didn’t lose that game last night and not like that. Yes I advocated Poch, still do; but would be very happy with Allegri.

In terms of the players let’s see what they do, when you let them run the club as we did when sacking Mourinho then they can and will do the same again at some point, like I said we would then be like Chelsea.

V slow and lethargic tonight and got what we deserved.
Arguably our strongest team out too.
Shaw and pogba in particular dithered on the ball
Martial and lingard didn't look at it.
Disappointed to see management sitting on bench and not up trying to get some urgency into the performance.

First half review- NOT ENTERTAINING

Darling Rashford hoelessly ridiculous. 1 out of his 100 shots from half way line will hit the target. Why waste the possession by doing it over n over n over again. Over confident.

Lingard running and that's it. running god knows where

Shaw cannot cross even if he is unmarked

Pogba just got in towards the end of the half

Martial uninterested.

Anyone want to give me different inputs i am all ears and eyes.

God knows what will happen against Barcelona when we are playing Wolves like that.

Thats why no Ole for me. He doesn't have any idea if the opponent isn't allowing you space to counter.

16 Mar 2019 21:54:02
Where were your contributions for the last 15 games?

17 Mar 2019 04:27:21
If i had posted more in the last 15 games, would that have given more weightage to my current post? Over the past 15 games, i have been satisfied with the results but bored over and almost slept with the performances. I thought that was why Jose was sacked. Ole has done nothing different and just rode the wave of a rebound.

17 Mar 2019 15:32:10
No. But it just makes you look like one of these posters who get some sort of perverse pleasure out of seeing us lose, just to prove some nebulous point.

17 Mar 2019 18:59:36
Similar to a lot Stevie who wanted us to play badly just so Jose could get the boot?

17 Mar 2019 19:59:47
And they were wrong, too. Why would anyone want their club to lose just to look good on a social media site?

13 Mar 2019 18:25:21
Evening guys,

They say you learn more in defeat than victory so hopefully we can take heed of some valuable lessons from the Arsenal game.

For me two things spring to mind, if Ole wants to start two upfront and get the best from Pogba then he should consider playing 3-5-2.

I think we can attribute the slow start at Arsenal to the formation. Pogba was asked to play a deeper, more disciplined role from the left which hindered his involvement and I'm not convinced Matic has the mobility to influence the game in a 4-4-2.

I think we struggled to deal with their two strikers and Ozil drifting between
the lines in behind Matic and Fred.

Looking ahead to the weekend Wolves will provide another stern examination. They also play three at the back and matching them may avoid some of the problems and confusion we encountered at the Emirates!

Lukaku looks better with a partner but he also needs width which can be provided by the wings backs. Pogba is at his best when he is allowed to get forward and operate in more advanced positions. With Martial just returning from injury hopefully he can make an impact from the bench. I think we really missed the energy, intensity and mobility of both Lingard and Herrera which is often crucial in big games. I think we got outworked and out manoeuvred last weekend and we'll need to be quicker and more proactive against Wolves. I think with the injuries we still have 3-5-2 probably provides the best balance.

My team would be (3-5-2) -

De Gea, Bailly, Smalling, Lindelof, Dalot, Shaw, Matic, Fred, Pogba, Rashford, Lukaku.

I am a big fan of a 442 diamond or a 3412 three at the back type system. I feel it works best with eh players we have and is the way we should look to go moving forward.

However, personally I feel having three at the back requires centre backs who are good on the ball. Regardless of tactics. If you want to play possession then you need them to be comfortable on the ball. If your looking to suck the opposition in and hit on the counter then you need your CB's to be able to play quick, accurate and penetrating passes either between the lines or over the top. Again you need good ball playing CB's to make that work otherwise you just give the ball back to the opposition or you give them chance to reset into their defensive shape.

That's why we need a CB in the summer who in comfortable on the ball and even an expansive passer. Then we could look to play 442/ 433 formation in most games, where we would expect to be on top for most the game. The 3413/ 343 in those games where we expect to have to be more defensive.

Maybe a summer of Kevin Malcuit, Alessio Romagnoli and Lorenzo Pelligrini could be ideal.

Shappy - Good post pal thanks for replying mate I must confess I don't know much about those players you've mentioned.

When everyone is fit I still think 4-3-3 is our best formation. I like the idea of a 4-4-2 diamond but defensively I think it leaves our full backs exposed and I'm not convinced the Lukaku/ Rashford axis completely works. We look at our most fluent with a front 3 of Rashford, Martial and Lingard with Pogba pulling the strings and surging forward in support. I'd be interested to see if Fred could anchor the midfield instead Matic and provide more mobility and intensity with Herrera.

In the summer I'd like us to target a CB, RB, CM and RW.

15 Mar 2019 09:26:58
I agree that Rashford, Martial and Lingard look like our most fluent front three. However, when we have played them three it has been a very loose front three, with Martial often floating into the half spaces on the left rather than staying wide. Rashford would start central but would pull out into the half spaces on the right to find space while Lingard would have a more free role popping up here there and everywhere finding space and knitting it all together. This was possible due to Herrera offering a more defensive performance in the RM role often helping out the RB in Lingard absence.

I don't think a 442 diamond necessarily exposes our full backs, it is a matter of making sure that our LM and RM are available to move wide and help the full back out when we need it. The issue is Pogba will often play in the LM role and he isn't as reliable to do the defensive side of the game.

Either way for me a 442 diamond or 433 should be the shape we play in the games where we expect to get a result.

I prefer a 3412/ 343 shape in the games against the top sides where we will have less of the ball than normal and will have to defend more often then usual. The top teams will press us higher and be more solid in defence. Therefore, the extra body in defence helps shut out that space, while drawing them out creating more space in behind for us to attack quickly on the counter.

I'm not so convinced we need a RW. But I agree on RB, CB and CM.
