A footballing lesson taught today and we are just an hour in. After this United shouldn't bother going to Paris when a certain Neymar and Cavani would be back. Not to mention a 2 away goal lead, which is likely to be 3-4 in another half an hour.

Give it to Ole! that's the level of players we got. Beating lower division teams is what United should be happy with now. Afterall the atmosphere on this page after getting a 2-2 draw with Burnley was mind numbing.

This post is mind numbing to be honest, we got beaten by the better team, not the end of the world.

Fine by me if reality is mind numbing for you. Take care GDS2.

Am watching the match tonight and it's at 65 mins. We are being given a lesson by PSG how to control a match and counter attack without two of their best players. I think it shows how much we need a fast right back as Young had been targeted again and again and exposed for pace. Also we desperately need a better midfield player alongside Pogba.

Great performance again today, a potentially tricky game made look easy. The centre halves did well with mitrovic today.

Pogba is looking like a true world class midfielder, let's hope he keeps this up and remains committed to the club, because he's unplayable at the moment. Just first goal was just a man on the top of his game, he had no right to take the shot on never mind score, and a super pen second half.

Martial looked great, especially first half. That goal was absolutely sublime, it was Henry esque. Great to have him tied down, a great talent.

Into 4 and with a bit of luck city beat Chelsea. I think we can make that spot our own. Bring on PSG, what a game that will be!

Who would have thought that the wheels would come off against Burnley.

Hey Woodward, we still need better defenders, a more mobile dm a proper right winger and a back up striker.

In Ole we trust.

I guess you posted this before the wheels came back on?

Andddd the bubble has burst.
No matter how many shots on goal, i did not enjoy that.

Did not enjoy that would suggest you posted after the final whistle but you didn’t, you posted at 2-0 didn’t you thinking we had lost the game? Feel silly now?

30 Jan 2019 04:10:30
Silly GDS? Are Burnley a side that should come to OT and have that scoreline? Remind me something, weren't these the type of games that we should be winning easy? Was this the argument put forward say about 2 months ago? Remember palace last season, we always come back, we just won that.

Rashford back to his boots, missed two open chances. why take of Lukaku when you are putting crosses in the box?

30 Jan 2019 05:57:52
Surprise surprise, look who's having a dig. 9 games unbeaten, 7 in the league, 19 points, but let's have a go. We're you expecting us to win every game?

We learnt last night that Herrera needs to start and Rashford should be CF, i expect that's what We will see.

I thought it was a great game but once again our defending cost us. We played well, suck it up and move on.

30 Jan 2019 17:16:29
Shan, maybe I'm taking it the wrong way, but your post seems to contain a little too much pleasure at us slipping up for my liking.

31 Jan 2019 09:29:50

I think 'I told you so' was the main message behind the post, unfortunately for that we scored 2 though.

13 Jan 2019 20:34:34
Brilliant game today happy to get the 3 points happy with the desire we showed and on to the next one.

Before we get too carried away let’s remember. it’s only Tottenham.

BIG BIG BIG win today and I am so proud of every single player. What stood out for me was not only did we go toe to toe with one of the best teams at their ground, we continued to show our capability of playing fluid attacking football yes but we also showed we can grind out results. Only downside is I think jones was suspect but my oh my get that man to sign a life term contract, DAVID DE GEA, what a wonderful and class player and individual absolutely fantastic and motm for me. Also I just want to add if it was between pogba and mourinho being the virus, pogba did no harm in showing his dedication there, absolutely bossed that midfield and I was impressed with his defensive support and that assist was sublime. Just want to end it with well done ole, you've done an amazing job in your short time here and if you saw at the end, there was so much togetherness, passion and love between the players, things we seemed to lose in recent years. If we continue this up then there's no reason why ole shouldn't be appointed. Beautiful game, I almost was in tears at the end, love the unity, let's GO UTD!

I’m really pleased but did Pogba dominate midfield? Great pass for the goal but I thought he looked leggy, not a lot of thrusting tuns and he was caught in possession a few times.

12 Jan 2019 20:32:40
Assuming Poch does get the job, what do you think he would change both tactically and personnel wise?

I'd expect to see a 4-2-3-1 with at least one centre half coming in along with two new fullbacks for rotation. A new right sided foraward and a number 10 in the mould of Eriksen.

I'd love to see Skriniar, Wan-Bissaka, Rice, Eriksen/ Asensio, Icardi.

Another good result but a rather messy and disjointed performance. We produced two moments of quality that ultimately won us the game but Reading gave a good account of themselves and outplayed us for large periods of the game without really looking too threatening.

I must say I was a touch disappointed by the likes of Pereira, Fred and Dalot and I didn't think Sanchez, Mata or Lukaku looked that great either. I don't think any did enough to suggest they should be pushing for a place in the starting 11.

I still haven't worked Fred out. He has bags of energy and has quality on the ball at times but he doesn't really have the physicality to win the ball back and he can also be really sloppy in possession. He clearly hasn't picked up the pace of the English game yet and I think he's being deployed too far forward. I think he would benefit from playing a bit deeper feeding passes into the front men and supporting the play. I'd like to see him be positive and move with the ball/ dribble from deeper areas into the space and commit men when teams sit deep. I'm not convinced he's good enough off the ball to be trusted in a two man midfield just yet but maybe sat a touch deeper next to Matic against the lower positioned teams especially at OT he might just provide a touch more creativity than Herrera.

I could say similar things about Pereira. He's a willing runner without really being able to effect the game and win the ball back. He also demonstrates moments of quality on the ball but can also be very sloppy and lose possession too easily. I actually think unlike Fred he'd benefit from playing further up the pitch in the number 10 position. He's a good dribbler, he's able to turn quickly and manipulate the ball in tight areas and wriggle out of challenges. He can spot a pass, switch play and has a fierce shot. He needs to play further forward where he can effect the game in my opinion.

Mctominay is clearly not as talented as either Fred or Pereira but he's quietly effective. He has the physicality to win the ball and keeps things simple and ticking over. He's better holding in a two man midfield, shielding the back 4 and feeding the ball into the better players. I think a re shuffle of that midfield might have been more effective this afternoon with Fred and Mctominay holding and Pereria as the No 10.

Moving forward I feel Mata is becoming less and less effective from the right. We need runners and energy especially when we play an extra midfielder and unfortunately Mata just clogs up the midfield. He likes to receive the ball to feet and to get involved in the build up but we then lack forward options. The same applies to Sanchez. He likes to thread passes like we saw for the goal but without more players such Pogba, Lingard and Martial making forward runs he's relatively ineffective. I believe that Sanchez must now play centrally otherwise we will continue to see the same ineffective player we witnessed under Jose.

In my opinion we lacked balance today and if Ole's preferred formation is 4-3-3 then we must have wiling runners like Rashford, Lingard and Pogba to break the lines. Without a recognised RW we desperately miss Martial's dribbling ability and if he could add more penetrating runs we'd have a really effective, mobile, fluid, creative and powerful front four of Pogba, Martial, Rashford and Lingard.

Lukaku took his chance well for the goal but his link up play and first touch was frustrating again. He made a good run for the goal but he doesn't give us the fluidity or penetration Rashford provides. Whilst he attempts to press from the front he's always a few yards short and I never get the feeling he's really trying to win the ball. Get the ball In the box however and he'll score goals. I think he's a great option off the bench and he'll have to be content with his role of super sub for the time being.

Ole's only been in change for 5 games but providing everyone is fit I think we could all name his starting 11 against Spurs. In nearly 3 years under Jose I think we'd still all be scratching our heads. I think the likes of Herrera, Matic, Lindelof, Jones, Shaw, Young and De Dea will have to be at their very best next week. If they can provide the defensive platform to allow the likes of Pogba, Martial, Lingard and Rashford to play further forward, switch positions and make penetrating runs ahead of the ball we might just surprise a few people next Sunday.

Good summary dlib.
Today again illustrated how paper thin or squad is when it comes to real quality.
We are well covered in our front 6 if we replace mata with a rw. Or if sanchez moves.
But in midfield we are woefully short of quality. And defence is short too.
Cb we need a commanding figure to compliment lindelof personally i'd keep smalling and move on jones darmian valencia and rojo.
An experienced rb to compliment dalot leaves young and shaw at lb.
Matic has no quality cover. Nor does pogba. Herrera and fred are the best of the rest.

05 Jan 2019 20:02:05
Thanks Ken agree with all that pal.

06 Jan 2019 10:55:57
To a large extent I agree with both.
Fred was poor but I feel it’s down to lack of game. Mctominay is the same. Hence I am Cup half full on these two. Lukaku has less pace compared to Rash but he has better physical strength and I see value from there.
I agree with Ken we need to add a few more key players just so we have options to back up the first XI team.

I see we are now in a good position and mental situation to build upon this young team. We need to start the succession for the older and sub standard players for next season title challenge. OGS or new manager is a separate situation but foundation is important and if we don’t start now we will have to take another 2-3 more seasons and that would be drastic.

I am optimistic now even though our weaker team managed to scrap through last night. That said I don’t really have anything to complain ☺️.
Thanks Eds for the great work on this site as always. 👏.

Pretty poor performance today if I’m honest. Reading probably feel a bit hard done by. They just lacked that quality in the final third that we had.

It’s difficult for some players to make an impact when they have hardly had a kick this season. But I thought the midfield 3 were terrible today. On paper you would think it could work as long as mctominay holds and pereira and Fred provide the creativity. I’ve been a big advocate of pereira and Fred but they really disappointed today. Fred gave the ball away far too often and his touch was shocking. It’s looking like a 50m mistake to me. I would still give him time though because lindelof was poor last year but he has emerged as our best cb. Pereira as well was poor. Would like to see him given a chance though perhaps playing with matic and pogba. Think with that solid base we would see more of his talents.

All in all, a win is a win. At this stage it’s all about getting the confidence up and putting a run together. 5 wins in 5 is great for ole, but next week is the big test. Another clean sheet which is brilliant. I would love us to go all out and win the fa cup.

One last point. Romero was brilliant today. Surely there isn’t a better back up goalkeeper in the league? I feel so sorry for the guy that he has De Gea ahead of him. If De Gea was to leave I wouldn’t mind giving Romero a go. He does lack a bit commanding wise but he’s a great shot stopper. Seems a top pro too. Darmian is another one who is a top pro. Need to move him on but you never hear a peep out of him. Fair play.
