Getting away from the Jose conundrum for a bit, summer window I imagine will be frantic with the world cup and closing sooner, we've already added Alexis Sanchez and with a full pre season and is he at the World Cup will be excellent to have him fully integrated but who else and how many will we be buying?

Left back seems inevitable, a new CB and a MF seem must likely but who, to name 4 linked;

Or perhaps

But will there be more than 4 and who will leave?
Shaw seems certain to go
Carrick retiring
Gotta believe a centre back or 2 will go if we sign another one, Smalling seems most vulnerable with Rojo signing on, what of Jones, TFM, Lindelof.
Still big work to do it seems despite the money spent.

A centre back and full backs are key for me to hopefully ensure Jose trusts his defensive unit then fingers crossed less disjointed attacks, to play as a unit and less individuals would be great to see.

Thoughts welcome.

{Ed004's Note - I reckon in the summer we will see a rb, cb, lb and two cm's come in.}

21 Mar 2018 13:44:57
That's what I'm hoping for ed004 possibly a rw if either mata or martial move on.
Wrd you could add herrera and darmian to the list of probable/ possible exits.

21 Mar 2018 19:25:24
A lot of changes coming this summer I reckon.

21 Mar 2018 22:02:20
Ha yeah didn’t even think of Darmian.

21 Mar 2018 22:14:28
Fellas if you was picking a EPL team, how many Utd players would actually be in say a squad of 16,DDG, then we're struggling, When we we're successful there would be at least 5,perhaps we're not doing that bad with the players we've got?

22 Mar 2018 17:20:56
I am hoping we get 5.

CB - Alderweireld / Varane / Umtiti
LB - Rose / Martin
CM - Jorginho
CM - Milinkovic-Savic
AM - Dybala

As for outs. and it is crazy to think of numbers this high but anywhere between 5 and 10 first team players could go.

Ibra will be gone. Carrick will have retired.

Blind, Darmian and one of Jones/ Smalling

As WRD mentioned. Martial, Mata, Herrera, Pogba. Hoping these players all stay but at present any of them could go.

21 Mar 2018 09:08:39
Given all the talk of the squad and formations and tactics. I was wondering what people would consider the best formation, tactics and first 11 and also what would need to change and where?

For me, I would like to see a 3-5-2 formation. The few times José has used this, we have looked better going forward, if not slightly more vulnerable at the back.

---------------De Gea---------------

Personally, I would only be looking for two players. A replacement for Smailling (someone like Varane would be ideal) and a replacement/ second option for Herrera.

I would keep Shaw and Fosu-Mensah as understudies to Valencia and Young, I believe all four would benefit from the wing back position as to total full back.

I would want back-up for Matic (holding midfielder sitting in front of the back line), it feels that's been an issue this year when he's been tired.

I would want a strong midfielder to ideally replace Herrera in that first 11. And use Herrera, McTominay and Lingard (standard midfielder linking up defense and attack) as back-up options.

As for cover for Pogba (offensive playmaker), I'd just use Perreira, seems suited to that left slightly more offensive role.

Martial and Rashford could then be used both as forwards in rotation with Sanchez (sitting in behind the main striker roaming right to left) and Lukaku. I really liked SAF's approach to having two strong parternships in the days of Cole/ Yorke and Sheringham/ Solskjaer. If those four could strike up two similar partnerships, that would be great.

I would move on Smalling, Jones, Blind, Fellaini and Mata (I love the guy, but don't think he fits in with the current squad) .

I would also look into bringing in another CB for cover, unless Tuanzebe could be that option.

Therefore, I don't think there is too much wrong with the current squad, two high profile signings (one defender and one midfielder) could be enough, and maybe one or two options for cover.

Ok I think I'm finally over Sevilla now.

What frustrated me most about that night was Mourinho. We had just put in one of the worse performances I have witnessed for many a year and we wanted our leader, our manger to tell us where and why it went wrong.
What we got was Jose telling us he wasn't at fault and in fact it's our fault for having to high expectations.

Come again?

Me, us, we are at fault!
We have to high expectations!
You better bloody be right we have high expectations.
We are Manchester United u better believe we have high expectations.

We expect a league challenge, we expect 1 of the 2 domestic cups and yes we expect to beat Sevilla in the CL to go through to the quarters and guess what, when we get there we expect to try everything we have to go further.

If you are our manager u better have those expectations too. Don't worry We will give you a handsome salary and a huge transfer budget to achieve our expectations. But if after 2 years and 100's of million spent u tell us they are still to high I'm afraid you are very wrong Jose. Yours are too low.

Guess I'm not over it 😉

Just thought I'd remind a few who are buying into this dampening down of expectations by Jose. It's self preservation pure and simple and doesn't sit right with me.

Good post, Chris. I mentioned somewhere else, that his interview only served to reinforce the view among so many of our fans, that we should lower our expectations, and accept that this is just the way it is now. You can see it in posts on here, claiming such and such a result wasn't actually that bad, because such and such a team are actually quite difficult away from home/ fighting relegation/ lifting their game against us, etc etc.

21 Mar 2018 17:19:12
Just didn't sit right with me pal.

19 Mar 2018 23:05:45
On luke shaw, jose has form for this, what normally happens now is the player gets the bit between his teeth and plays out of his skin almost week in, week out, gets himself noticed-and jose gets to sell him for more than he could, he's a card that jose!

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Mar 2018 09:26:15
Or slags him off via his agent and goes back to eating pizza.

20 Mar 2018 16:04:14
Lol-we all rate him really!

18 Mar 2018 22:12:53
That ronaldo chap is a machine 17 goals in last 8 games. Talent without dedication = waste of space.
What a player he became the skinny kid that was ridiculed by many is now widely regarded as one of the best ever.
Any young player looking to make it in the game should look at how he trained how he practised and how he lived his life as a professional footbsller.
Nobody needs the same level of talent to match his dedication.
The messi or ronaldo debate will go on for years we have been blessed as football supporters to have been able to watch them grow and develop into genuine football superstars and legends.

Agree2 Disagree0

18 Mar 2018 23:35:20
There is no debate, from my perspective at the moment Ronaldo is better for the simple reason he did it in the EPL, he has done it in Spain and he has done it on the international stage as well, helping an average Portugal win the Euros.

Messi despite being obscenely talented has only ever done it for Barca, he has always fallen short internationally despite playing in an arentina team that individually is made up of far better than Portugal.

Totally agree with you that Ronaldo has dedicated himself to his sport and to self improvement. He is an arrogant SOB who loves himself, but respect where respect is due, he works hard everyday to improve and to be the best. Hence he delivers consistently. I wish Pogba, Shaw and Martial had 1/ 10th of his work ethic. Unfortunately I think they are more wazza than ronaldo.

19 Mar 2018 06:44:31
Huggy i agree with most of that. However it has to be said that while rooney didn't have the same dedication as Ronaldo he delivered for the club and team great things for most of his united career. I felt the last 3 seasons of rooneys stay were 3 seasons too long. If those guys you mentioned deliver like rooney did for most of his career then i'd be delighted.
There are guys like butt neville and dare i say carragher that sqeezed much more from their career than their god given talent would have brought them. They did this by being fully dedicated and commited to their profession. I admire guys like this.

19 Mar 2018 07:50:18
Messi is the best player I've ever seen, I think him and maradona are the best ever .

19 Mar 2018 11:32:54
I prefer Messi but as you say, Ronaldo is a machine. His stats are unbelievable and he just keeps doing it.

19 Mar 2018 12:50:04
the difference is ken as mutch as i like ronaldo he acts like a absoute nob were as messi dose not.

19 Mar 2018 14:07:21
Dazw, from what I have heard Messi is a major tool if he does not get his own way at Barca. He has vetoed transfers, influenced squad selection. He is just as egotistical as ronaldo it’s just that ronaldo is more open about it.

19 Mar 2018 14:30:45
Daz you shock me a pro footballer that acts like a knob😂😂 i wish he was acting the knob playing for us😂
Messi acts the knob too.
I find it hard to split him and messi. Both are great. Maradonna too was amazing but falls behind the 2 of them for me just because he was not as prolific but he played in an era when he was kicked around the place so its harder to get a direct comparison.

19 Mar 2018 14:56:58
Apart from Georgie, obviously, I've never seen a player that can do the things Messi can do with a football. Ronaldo will rightly go down as a great, but when I watch Messi, usually off my seat, I see pure magic.

19 Mar 2018 16:26:51
Maradona is interesting because of how he al OST carried teams. Napoli without him would have won nothing and he was instrumental in winning the World Cup. My memory of him is impacted by his hand of God goal but he was some player.

19 Mar 2018 18:13:25
Ronaldo all the way m the guy is a phenomenon.

19 Mar 2018 19:15:33
Maradona was amazing played on poor pitches and got kicked from pillar to post .
Playing pro football at 15 .
Ronaldo is an athlete and the goals don't lie .
Messi is just a joy to watch drops deep links the whole team scores goals but his vision is out of this world .

19 Mar 2018 21:48:50
George best lads, talk about being kicked around the place and playing pissed most of the time. 😁.

19 Mar 2018 23:09:06
ken i now the majority of them are knobs, but with messi it is what you read in the rags but with ronaldo he does interviews.

20 Mar 2018 20:15:09
Maradona was the best I've ever seen the statistics disagree with me by quite some distance but it always felt special watching him play.

20 Mar 2018 21:09:54
I am lucky, I have seen Best, Maradona, Messi and the Brazilian Ronaldo all live but I still maintain that Cristiano Ronaldo was the best I have seen. We all wanted to be Georgie yet he was finished by 27, I saw him near the end, so I can’t give him as much credence as the others.

18 Mar 2018 20:31:26
Just googled jardim. He has 5 Christian names the first of which is Jose! Do we all still want him? Hehe.

18 Mar 2018 01:38:52

Are we interested in any Prem players? Decoure, Ndidi or Gueye would be decent buys.

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Mar 2018 11:52:34

Every match I've seen Gueye in, he does nothing. Just loses the ball all over the field. We already have plenty of those type.

18 Mar 2018 19:40:45
I would be extremely disappointed if that was the calibre of player we were looking at.

18 Mar 2018 17:10:17
Jose even made it on 'Gogglebox' this Friday, the show which is based on watching people watching TV and seeing their reactions.

He was being mocked and laughed at by everybody on the show, (most of them didn't seem to know much about football) . However the image created by the interview shown (MOTD after Liverpool win), spoke volumes and the impression he is leaving about Man Utd as our manager is disgraceful.

One women (who knew nothing about football), said "but didn't his team win, why is he talking about brain damage for the other team - what is he going on about".

Now I don't especially care about 'Gogglebox', but it is interesting that our manager is a source for ridicule in a non-football related program. It is going too far, all I read on comment forums is people laughing about him. I don't buy into this deflection BS either, he has too big an ego to want to be mocked by everybody and their dog.

We are being dragged through the mud, just look how LVG bad mouths us now. I think the club are scared of a Jose backlash if we do axe him, something seems off to me.

18 Mar 2018 21:08:00
So you don’t watch united anymore because it’s boring but you are watching gogglebox? Says more about you than Jose I think mate.

18 Mar 2018 21:43:39
Who isn't watching Utd anymore?

I'm well rounded GDS2, I get my information/ knowledge from a great deal of sources, not only glasses caked in red paint!

18 Mar 2018 23:14:31
That old one again eh, people just have different opinions.

18 Mar 2018 16:49:43
Leannes I mean leganes just beat the mighty sevilla.

Agree3 Disagree0

18 Mar 2018 17:40:11
José doesn't have the players to beat Sevilla, remember. He needs more windows, he's hardly spent anything so far.

18 Mar 2018 17:53:11
That's true, I think he should play more defensive.

18 Mar 2018 14:43:54
There has been a number of posts about Jose slagging of the players in public and here is my opinion.

If my boss humiliated me in public like Jose has done to his players then I would immediately be looking for a new job.
He slagged of Luke Shaw, if he has a problem with him then don't slag him off in public but sell him in the summer.
He discussed McTominay's 'very bad' performance. He is new to the team, he is young and has been playing reasonably well. To criticise his performance to the press is disgraceful.
Did you ever hear Ferguson slag off his players never mind a young player playing his first season in the first team.

Then the comments he made after the Seville game.
Saying that he knocked United out of the champions league twice therefore an exit to Sevilla was no shock. Unforgivable. He should have been apologising.

Then the style of football. I was stood on the Stretford End the day United got relegated so I have seen some dire football at Old Trafford. But to spend as much money as he has and have the team play like they did against Sevilla is dreadful.
He can't play attacking football, he blames everybody but himself, he criticises players in public, he criticises the fans, he wants to spend more and more money, he doesn't promote youth, he is an egotistical horrible man and I didn't want him as manager and United will not get back to attractive football until he is gone.

Agree4 Disagree4

18 Mar 2018 15:12:09
Voldman, get off that fence you're sitting on, mate 😉.

18 Mar 2018 20:02:54
"He can't play attacking football. "

The amount of goals he scored at Real, and his first Chelsea side suggests otherwise as does (to a lesser degree the team he won the league with in his second stint) .

"He doesn't promote youth. "

Lingard, McTominay, Rashford are currently playing regularly having come through the academy. He has not stifled any youth player that deserves to be in the first team picture.

The other points are fair but creating points to suit your own agenda is pointless.

19 Mar 2018 13:34:26
Despite playing Rashford and Lingard as well as promoting McTominay, people still insists that Jose does not promote/ play youth. All the other points are rather accurate but seriously, anything to make Jose as bad a person as possible.
