Not trying to stir here. Just genuine interest (since my brother is a Man fan) . Thing I noticed in the match was how reluctant DeGea was to come out for crosses. It often seemed like he was rooted to his line even when the ball was clearly coming in around the 6 yard box. Has he always done this or is this is a sign of his confidence being down?

We were battered today. As in most games this season we were s bind to everything. Our fitness levels are poor and basic techniques are poor.
I don't think jose will be here for much longer.
But whar to do?
Once again we find ourselves at a cross road and taking the right route this time has huge importance.
The lack of top quality players in our squad is huge compared to our competitors. Vast sums of money wasted on the wrong players and coaches.
We have some players with huge potential on a postive note. Rashford martial fred dalot shaw pogba and dare i say sanchez. Maybe lindelof and jessie.
None are regularly playing to their full potential . Some of that the players fault some the managers.
I don't see any improvement in matic herrera fellaini jones young smalling rojo valencoa darmian mata mctominay and if any 2 or 3 of those have to play 20 games a season we will be exposed and we have been now for 5 years.
Its so important that the board employ good advisors and listen to the recommendations. This is boot a time for knee jerk decisions.
Our next manager has got to be backed and supported with a clear vision and full alignment with the board.

{Ed0333's Note - Who you need is glaringly obvious to me mate, Poch. The man will take you to the next level, probably even make you winners again. I think he’s ready to manage the elite clubs in world football and they don’t come much bigger than the United Job. He knows the Premiership inside out and will have no problem attracting the creme de la creme of players due to who you are and the wages you pay. Furthermore I’m sure he could get performances out of Rashford, Martial, Pogba et al. if I was Ed wooodwoodwoodwood I would pay Spurs the money they want, whatever it takes and give him 5 years to lay new foundations and build your house again.

You are right about fitness levels Ken. We run and sprint less than most teams but players look shattered. When I saw Lingard bent with his hands on his knees as Liverpool passed around him towards the end, you have to wonder about our conditioning. All the top teams look fitter.

17 Dec 2018 09:52:37
Our fitness levels look poor, however, you always feel more tired when your losing. Part of it is a mental thing. The other part is that when you concede the ball to the opposition as often as we do and allow them to have the ball we are left chasing it more, rather than having the ball and letting the ball do the work.

It feels far less taxing to sprint for a potential through ball that would give you a clear goal scoring chance, than it does sprinting backwards to make a last ditch tackle to stop the opposition from scoring.

17 Dec 2018 10:07:59
Ed0333, hope you’re well.

Do you think Woodward will do that though? Correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t Ed002 say that he’s not been listening to his advisors. This strikes me as him being arrogant and stubborn (maybe fearful of losing face? ) . Do you think he’s ‘aware’ enough to implement the right changes?

{Ed0333's Note - hey Doc yes I’m well, thankyou for asking and you? I’m not privy to the goings on at Old Trafford like Ed’s 002 but my guess would be that United would loathe parting company with Jose mid way through the season unless something really calamitous happens. It’s seems as if Zizou isn’t the man they want otherwise he’d already be there. I think the United hierarchy will wait till the summer to recruit a new manager, maybe there’s something in that we’ll publicized clause about sacking Jose for cheaper once you get knocked out of the Champions League? As to Woodward, again I don’t know the inner workings at United but for me I don’t think Woodward has covered himself in glory throughout the whole Jose debacle and looking from the outside in he could be on thin ice also. One things for sure you guys need a radical overhaul from top to bottom.

17 Dec 2018 21:08:59
I’m good thanks Ed. Yes I agree about waiting until Summer. But again who knows if there will be a plan in place. Thought Woodward would be pretty much untouchable having brought in so much ‘gold’ for the Glazers. Bit of a sh*t show at the moment. Just lucky to have experienced the great era and joy of the last 25 years and appreciate that some clubs won’t even come close to winning silverware let alone consistently for 30 years. So we should be grateful for the good times we’ve had.

{Ed0333's Note - Mate it still beggars belief Fergie won you 18 titles and 2 European cups how much friggin silverware do you want in you’re lifetime lol. I would be absolutely gobsmacked if there wasn’t a restructuring plan underway momentarily Doc as it can’t be left like it is. I’m sure you will see some high level appointments being made in 2019 both administrively and on the field.

18 Dec 2018 09:03:42
Haha Ed, think that we’re so sh*t at the moment it’s made me realise how incredible an achievement it was. Yeah let’s see what happens. Surely you’d want a strong MUFC team challenging for titles, right? Have a good Xmas!

{Ed0333's Note - yes Doc I always want a premiership with bundles of teams that can beat each other, it’s so manotanous and mundane otherwise, a waste of time and energy. So looks like I was completely off the mark about Jose he got sacked right after me saying he won’t be lol. How do you feel about that? I can’t quite believe I’m saying this but I feel sorry for the guy. I’m not sure I care for him but I absolutely respect him as he is a straight shooter, he says it how he sees it, a man of character and principles and there’s very few of those around. It was fun having Jose around and I think I feel sorry for him because I’m not sure we’ll see him in the Premiership real soon which will be a shame. So who would you like to replace Jose? Like most others I can’t see past Poch and a shame that Naggleseman is going to Leipzig as he would have been a super appointment. Maybe he would have been seen as too young but ‘kids never win you anything’ as you well know Doc lol.

Liverpool fan, it goes without saying I am over the moon with the result just wanted to make a few points.

Firstly seen a couple posts saying you are disappointed that you parked the bus, you have done that on the last couple of visits but the difference today was we actually have a bit of quality to get through it.

I was shocked by the line up, not playing your best player (on paper) was bizzare, don’t have a clue how lukaku still gets a game, I’d have martial, Rashford and Lingard, least they’re try and have some thing about them.

The attitude of your lot was dire, when you went to 2-1 I wouldn’t say you even tried to make it 2-2 and that is surely down to the manager.

I would be lying if I didn’t enjoy your position, I remember you boys enjoying us greatly under Hodgson that is what the rivalry is about.

THERe are a lot of issues with united and it starts with the manager, I’d be surprised if he still has a job by Christmas.

Top four is a pipe dream as it stands but if moyes made those comments today he would of been shot down.

Moyes got slated on here by some, mate, for being honest/ conceding defeat - take your pick. Wonder if those who still have faith in José will ever take him to task for some of his demoralising interviews and comments.

16 Dec 2018 18:53:55
I can take losing games but the way we play "football" and the way we looked not arsed on the pitch is a disgrace.

Jose and a long list of average overpaid walkers need to go.

I think they took into account that his movement affected play. Keeper was never letting that in, if he hadn't thought Lukaku might get a touch.

08 Dec 2018 19:28:43
Watching Chelsea beat City has made me reflect on how good or bad we are. We had the better of Chelsea, but for a last minute equaliser we would have taken the points, yet here they are beating City.

There’s many of us who have been critical of Jose or the players but I’ve found the last few weeks the most frustrating. The 2 draws against Palace and Southampton have hurt us. I know it’s silly to play the ‘what if’ game but those 2 games cost us 4 points and momentum. In any other season we would have won both games; it wouldn’t have moved us into the top 4 but we would be knocking in the door.

Jose may or may not be the right man, some players may or may not not be good enough, but we are not as bad as some are saying. A couple of tweaks and we are back in the top 4.

What a joke, Pogba was awful, just running around doing nothing. Matic, Jones, McTominay and Young passing sideways and back. Lukaku and his 10 foot control of the ball. Today is where i wonder why i pay money that goes into this club and pays some of there wages. I watched my sons under 14 game, they were much more entertaining.

I guess is the board's fault we can't beat Sotton, Wolves, Palace and others.
T Rex has nothing to be blamed about it.

01 Dec 2018 20:32:02
Repeat, this is about more than the manager. The stats were read out before the game about effort, running and we have been outrun in every game. Yes the game is about skill but we are not competing. During the game you could see we didn’t run off the ball, create space, so is that the managers instructions, really, or the players not putting everything in?

The easy answer is “sack him”, but this is December, the top managers are committed, unless you want Zidane or Giggs, if so, then heaven help the club.

01 Dec 2018 20:45:01
Red man why aren't the players playing for Jose? They play for their national teams, they played for their previous managers at previous clubs.

So why won't they play for Jose? What has he done that has made them not want to play for him?

01 Dec 2018 21:05:38

Management is not a popularity contest. Perhaps he wants and demands more from them than they want to give, perhaps he knows what it takes to win and they don’t want to put that level of effort in. SAF had power, the players performed or left. The managers authority has diminished and those effort stats are damning. They should play for the shirt, and if they match the effort of the opposition yet don’t win then it’s the tactics or their quality but that is not what is happening.

01 Dec 2018 22:06:17
I have to say what an absolute cock up. he's totally lost it. there was no urgency to go win the game. the players are not playing for him. The average squad players probably are.

his tactics just seem haphazard. it's like they set out to go a goal or two down and hope the other team can then sit back so they can attack. i believe if we were 2-1 down at half time we would have probably won that game, but as it was 2-2 at half time the intensity dropped in the second half.

he's playing for the sack and totally taking the piss out of Man United.

01 Dec 2018 22:23:43
Your right Red man, it's certainly not a popularity contest.

However, what do you make of the Chelsea and Jose?

He won the title with them, the players then seemed to stop playing for him, they played in a not too disimilar way to how we are playing right now. Jose got sacked and the next manager took them back to being champions again.

Did the Chelsea players not have what it took to be champions? Clearly not. Yet they stopped playing for Jose all the same. Even after he won the title with them. They knew his methods achieved success, yet they still wouldn't play for him. What do you make of that? And how do you think it relates to us at the moment?

01 Dec 2018 22:47:41
No manager plays for the sack, he will have an enormous amount of pride.
After Conte (the next manager) took Chelsea to be Champions what happened in the next season? The players stamped their feet for Conte and stopped playing for him. It is what you get if you let players run the club, There is a pattern and Chelsea ownership acceded to the players moaning. It is a recipe for disaster. Surely you can see this?
How does it relate to us? The players have too much say in both instances. if you have players running to the board or owners whining and they are allowed to undermine the manager you are in big trouble. The ceo has to decide, does the manager have a good CV and plan or not. You cannot allow moaning players to run or decide the direction off the club.

{Ed025's Note - its called.."the lunatics taking over the asylum" red man..

01 Dec 2018 23:05:27
Yes, apt description. People associate more closely with players, no one puts the name of the manager on the back of their shirt, so the players become too important. The “we can’t afford to lose him” from our midfield becomes all encompassing, losing your favourite player hurts. However try managing any team, you have to know those above you support or it is an impossible job. Imagine trying to lead, not knowing either above or below are with you and it will be too tough. It’s where we are and until the ceo makes a proper assessment of the managers plans and either gets right behind him or sacks him we are in semi limbo. I understand the challenges so support the manager not the players on this one.

{Ed025's Note - i dont think anyone is blameless red man..

02 Dec 2018 07:46:20

Yes, Jose has not covered himself in glory and is not helping himself but the club, the owners, Woodward and whoever advises him need to be decisive. Either 100% behind the manager or sack him. They didn’t back him in summer and now we have half way house and limbo, it is leaving the club a complete mess.

{Ed025's Note - but he has spent a lot of money is his tenure so far red man and a lot of these were highly thought of internationals, "something is rotten in the state of denmark" as the bard said, what that is im not sure mate some will say the manager, some the players and some will say the board, but whatever it is it is making united a laughing stock and things have to change..

02 Dec 2018 10:54:08
There are people high up within the club who don't support Jose, that will never change. Unless you advocate the removal of people like Sir Bobby Charlton among others.

However, Jose has been significantly backed financially. It is not the boards fault that very few of Jose's signings have worked out. In fact it is hard to even pick one out as a total success. That will have likely lead to a discussion about affording Jose further vast sums of money, if there hasn't been a proper return on his previous choices of investment. That's just good business.

Also it is a managers remit, at any level, in or outside football to get the most out of the people you work with.

Jose's methods turned players against him at Real Madrid, at Chelsea the second time round and now with us. Personally I feel his methods work better with teams that have an underdog mentality. That backs against the wall attitude. When he has managed at clubs where the players consider themselves as players playing for a top club, a club that should be on top they don't buy into this everyone is better than us and we need to fight to win mantra that is Jose Mourinho.

02 Dec 2018 20:16:17

We all love Sir Bobby Charlton, however, you say Mourinho is out of date when he won the league 3 years ago, where does that put Sir Bobby and his thoughts of leadership and management?

Sometimes a manager has to take on and deal with problems, they have to lead and take difficult tough, unpopular decisions. People don’t like it and rebel. Often the whole story is not known. The Madrid dressing room had some issues with particular characters, the manager can either ignore or deal with it. Leaders deal with it. Chelsea the second time round you like to quote but don’t respond to what Eden Hazard said. Nor do you like to deal with the fact that Conte fell to the same problems because they were never dealt with.

02 Dec 2018 10:54:35

Has HE spent a lot of money. The question is, are the players bought the actual ones the manager wanted or are they in the positions the manager wanted and were the value for money options who someone thought was just as good?

{Ed025's Note - if they were not his picks then im sure he would have walked red man, and yes it was a lot of money by any standards mate..
