Hi guys.

Long time reader and very rare poster! Thought I would re-enter the fray with super exciting times coming up.

In terms of the transfers we make this summer, I would love to see us whack an English central midfielder into the squad and steal one from a PL rival. Dier, Noble, Drinkwater, Wilshere could all do a job for us in the middle of the park, seeing as it's likely one or two of our current lot will be leaving. Have always thought it's important for us to have a strong English core, and I'm a big fan of going for players from strong PL teams. It would weaken them, but I think it would be a big help in re-establishing ourselves at the top of English football, which is why I think we should be going for a big PL player too. Sanchez is not getting what he wants from Arsenal, Willian doesn't have European football next year, Mahrez and Kane could be given big pay rises. We are Man Utd, and I feel with Jose and the helm we can go after these types of quality players.

On Ibrahimovic. He would be with us for two years maximum. He wouldn't be able to play every game, leaving time for Rashford to make his mark. Perhaps he wouldn't be able to bring the same kind of ratios that he has at PSG, but I can't believe that he wouldn't be a superb penalty box striker at the very least. He, like Mourinho, would give us a swagger again.

Varane has class written all over him, but there is no point without someone experienced next to him. The answer for me is Koscielny.

Targeting Koscielny, Varane, Dier/ Drinkwater, Kante, Ibrahimovic would set us up as the strongest in the league, which is what we should be aiming for. Schweinsteiger, Fellaini, Rojo and Jones have come to the end of their time with us.

Love reading the site, would love to hear what you think!

Cheers.

Kante would be a dream. Immense player.
Add Varane as the world class CB with lots of pace we have been seeking and with just those 2 players this team would be transformed.

2.) 26 May 2016 09:24:02
Koscielny gets bullied too easily by strong forwards and outclassed by the top elite forwards. He is a very good defender but we need better. It's no coincidence that Arsenal do the win the biggest trophies with defenders like him. Also realistically can't see Arsenal or Spurs selling us their best players. They don't need the money and do need to build themselves.

3.) 26 May 2016 11:24:26
Varane is a very good defender but still has a long way to go before one can label him world class and not playing often is screwing up his development.

Afternoon guys!

I'm just wondering what everybody thinks, at what point will we have signed too many players? With five in already and seemingly another two to come in, Van Gaal will have a real job on his hands integrating them all straight away.

1.) 27 Jul 2015 16:52:28
I think the big difference in my opinion is that all the players now know what the manager is like and what he expects from them,

They understand his ways so integrating the new players won't be as big as a problem, obviously it takes time to hit form and their stride, and get use to life at a different club/country stuff like that.

But I'm confident it won't be as difficult for the new players to settle. That's my opinion anyway

2.) 27 Jul 2015 16:59:45
This will be an issue Imo. The bright side is that next summer and the summer after Tha we shouldn't need too many changes so we van start to build momentum this year then carry it through.

3.) 27 Jul 2015 18:32:06
I'm with HB here. I think we are making too many changes to challenge this year but needs must. It will take time to identify the best team and formation so this year I am hoping for improvement, more excitement, and a challenge in the cups. I really don't see us winning the league unless there is an unusual understanding forges very very quickly

4.) 27 Jul 2015 18:56:47
Last season we had two players who had worked with LVG and the was Daley Blind and RVP. Now we have the full squad who have been there for a year and know the "philosophy". Even the new signings of Depay, Romero and Schweinsteiger have worked with him. I don't think we'll have too much problems with the squad adapting as we did last year. However, we are unlikely to win the league without further quality. We need a winger when ADM leaves, a top quality CB and another CF. Then we're in a position to challenge as long as they adapt well.

5.) 27 Jul 2015 19:05:15
Its a tough one Hb, personally I think MS & BS will fit in seamlessly Darmian looks like nothing will phase him, perhaps Memphis will be a bit hit and miss early on but no doubting he looks special. IMO we are still to see a striker a CB and probably a keeper come in so that's 3 more. But I agree with you particularly at the back. A starting back 5 with 3 new faces including a keeper will be tough to bed in, but we can't ignore the fact that the job needs to be done, I think lvg has chosen wisely so far, I also think Ramos would have been a seamless transition so he was worth chasing otemendi has only a fraction of Ramos's experience an will take longer to adjust IMO, likewise with Loris and clessisen.

6.) 27 Jul 2015 19:13:06
I agree the changes were necessary btw

7.) 27 Jul 2015 19:45:22
If we sell ddg and di Maria our net spend so far this window is just about zero so if the cash is there and the players are available press on i'd say.

Anybody else a little worried that Carrick will be our only number 6 next year? If, and more like when, he gets injured, we could be starting to look very dodgy again in midfield without his calming influence.

I also think we need to stick with Valdes or bring in Lloris when it comes to keepers. It's vital to give Smalling experienced players to allow him to concentrate on defending rather than worrying about sheparding his defensive unit.

Absolutely delighted with Depay signing up. Mentioned him as an ideal signing about a year ago and think he has the potential to be very dangerous very quickly. If he gets a good start, he'll be terrorising defenders with a direct approach we've lacked for a while now, excluding our application of Fellaini last season!

LVG said he would sign a number 6 but i don't see us linked with many. Mayb it will b someone we havnt heard of or mayb clearing the decks for a worldie will b javi Martinez. LVG insists that 6 is the most important position and i don't think there's any1 better than Martinez atm

2.) 08 Jul 2015 23:14:38
Is that not what Schneiderlin is being bought for?

3.) 08 Jul 2015 23:14:01
Definitely think we will need one more midfiled signing to have us covered on that front. An injury to Herrera will mean we have the Fellaini hoofball show (as LVG only seems to rate mate on the right)

No disrespect to Fellaini as without him we wouldn't have secured that 4th place spot - I just find it worrying that we are one or two injuries away from being forced to play that way. It will not work all the time - esepcially against more tactically astute managers.

Completely unfounded and just an idea, how would people feel about an attempt to get Oxlade-Chamberlain? The time must come for this lad to realise he isn't getting enough football at Arsenal to develop into the player he could be, an issue that will only be exacerbated by the arrival of Sanchez.

The 20 year old who has notched over 50 premiership appearances?

2.) 12 Aug 2014 18:23:37
32 from the bench? I think his age masks how good he is. He looks strong enough, physically, to be used week in week out in my opinion.

3.) We could do a lot worse!

Hi, long time reader here and first post under the Log-in system.

Just wondering if anybody else is a little disappointed with the idea we will be playing a large amount of our games this season without classic wingers? This has always been the Manchester United way of doing things and even though I thoroughly believe LvG is the right man for our club, I would have loved to see him implement his 433 system.

Just another question as well, not MU related, how good do people think Ramsey really is/could be? Very interested to see if he is the real deal this season.

1.) 11 Aug 2014 23:46:19
With the wingers we have? Did you watch last season? Our "classic" wing play was painful to watch! I for one don't want to play kick it down the flank and bang in an aimless cross! No thanks. Play ball on ground with clever players such as Mata and Kagawa on the ball. Much better on the eye

2.) I am excited about the no wingers to be honest, Classic wingers are going out of the game as it is evolving to make better use of space and possession. Without classic wingers we will have more bodies in other parts of the pitch and maintain possession better.

I think Ramsey is a great player if he can stay fit. But like RVP at Arsenal before him he has struggled to have that one injury free season. Quality player with good link up and passing ability.

3.) The current setup allows Rooney, RVP, and Mata all to play in their natural positions. If we go 4-3-3 with our current squad, either Mata is forced out wide or he sits so Young or Valencia can start. In time we will see the 4-3-3 again, once we get a few more pieces of the puzzle.

4.) Classic wing play is all well and good but it does leave you exposed centrally, this is fine if your wingers are of such quality that it forces the opposition to double up on them meaning they can't over load the central areas as they need extra men on the flanks.

Players of the quality of Ronaldo, Bale, Di maria or Sanchez then all is well and good.

But no team feels the need to double up against the likes of Nani, Valencia or Young.

So would you rather have an attack of Nani, RvP and Young or and attack of Mata, Rooney and RvP?

I know who i'd rather have.

5.) Still be lots of wing play with wing backs

6.) 12 Aug 2014 13:15:07
But Shappy, weren’t Sanchez and Di Maria available this summer? Clearly with the players we have at the moment, it’s not viable to play with wingers, but if the cash is there then I would have loved to have seen at least one winger signed! This may well still happen, but I for one hope it is not Di Maria at the prices being suggested. Depay looks like the kind of winger I would like to see at Utd.

Certainly would make sense. Does anybody know how he is getting on with fitness/injuries at the moment? Seems to have had issues with this.

We're going to have to keep one of the current players in the engine room, Schneiderlin has to be given the chance to do what he does. Depending on the type of team we're playing, next to him you can have a deep lying combative midfielder or someone more creative to pull the strings. Morgan and TFM or Dier/ Morgan and Rooney or Wilshere or Kroos, etc.

The question is who?

I don't see anybody out there for the forward position, unless Rooney is being moved forward with another supporting player being brought in of excellent quality, with a decent striker being brought in too.

Schneiderlin, despite his qualities, cannot be described as a worldie. Maybe the wages will go somewhere else, like the centre of our defence? Like on Ramos?

We can't buy someone if it is a non starter.

Coleman is too expensive for what he is.

That's what I'm hoping for Fresh. I think the dynamic winger/forward we need is absolutely vital. Surely, as was the case with Holland in the World Cup, this 3412 is just temporary?

Think Rooney is probably the right choice to be honest. I have to say I am delighted for Fletcher to be handed the vice-captaincy after all he has been through. Could this be the announcement that Irwin is referring to? Possibly?
