Seeing plenty of discussions about De Gea lately. Personally, I'm not as worried as some of our fans are.

The ideal would be for him to sign a new contract, Real find someone else, and he continues to be our goalkeeper for the next decade.

However, if he does leave, and it's looking more and more likely, I'd go for Lloris. Sure, De Gea has better potential and is a far better shot stopper, but in terms of getting out quickly, sweeping, and the command of the area, I'd say both are on par at the moment.

Lloris still relatively young for a goalkeeper, 3-4 years older than De Gea. But you never know with goalkeepers, some can carry on till they're 40, like VDS, who was absolutely fantastic, some lose that edge when they reach their thirties.

Regarding Lloris, he still has his prime years ahead of him. (I'm taking the liberty of assuming goalkeeping prime is 30-32). If Spurs yet again don't get the fourth spot, I don't think he will want to hang around for long. So if we can get De Gea to sign a new contract and get a considerable amount like 40m pounds or around from Real, and if Dave's willing to leave, I'd be okay with selling him and getting Lloris with Valdes as 2nd choice.

However, the only stumbling block should De Gea choose to go back to his country, would be dealing with Levy. We know his nature and he will fight for every penny. And since Lloris has signed a 5 year contract last year or so, we'd have to pay slightly over the odds for him.

Just watched the Juve v Man u 1999 semi final again!
Every goal kick there is not 1 utd player in their own half. Every free in their half not a united player in sight!

Jez I would love to see tactics like that again, just for one game to see what happens lol.

On another note, what would ya not give for a young Staam & Keane now!!! Priceless!

2.) 10 Jan 2015 22:54:29
Lloris would be my first choice replacement . But we need to keep De Gea. Why sell him? Already in the top 3 in the world . With much more to come. If Madrid keep perusing him go crazy and ask for £80m like all other clubs do with them. Spurs would make us pay £40m to take Lloris

3.) When a kid from Spain gets the chance to play for Real Madrid he will always jump at the opportunity. If Madrids interest is serious David De Gea will move to the European champions. Real Madrid always get their man, be that Ronaldo, Bale, Kroos, Modric or De Gea. They will offer him luxurious wages, a lavish lifestyle and a homecoming one can only dream of.

Having said that, I really hope we sign him up. He is our most pivotal and vital player at the moment.

4.) I'm just clinging onto the Athletico effect, but if I had to put money on it I unfortunately think he will be sold in the Summer.

Signing Valdes is clever because it means we have 18 months to replace him without clubs bending us over. I don't rate Valdes, but most people do and as such clubs can't say "you either pay what we ask or you don't have a quality keeper", this move probably knocks £10mil off whichever keeper we buy to replace him and gives us time to scout a suitable long term replacement as most people would have banked on DDG being our keeper for a long time imo.

I just hope we make him an offer he can't refuse.

5.) Beast It wouldn't suprise me if De Gea signed a long term contract and Real Madrid continue to pursue the player to ensure we get premium price for our best current asset. Football is an odd business.

But I would be gutted to see him go.

6.) I think Valdes was bought incase in the summer if David does leave and a keeper like Lloris is not bought then we have a decent keeper to replace him

{Ed002's Note - Valdes was bought to replace Lindegaard and Amos. If De Gea goes in the summer then Krul will perhaps arrive and Valdes become first choice.}

7.) 11 Jan 2015 12:27:59
I wouldn't be surprised if the signing of ADM had some sort of arrangement connected to it with DDG. The conspiracy theorist in me and Ed002 will probably tell me I am living in cloud cuckoo land, but we do seem cosy with Madrid at the minute, Bale rumours aren't going away, Coentrao keeps popping up, ADM signing, Ronaldo and now DDG hype, it does worry me.

8.) Will be disappointed to see De gea leave. He is one of my favourite players.

Hold your ground! Fans of Manchester United!
My brothers,
I see in your eyes the same fear that would take the heart of me.
A day may come when the courage, determination and spirit of the team fails,
when we forsake our ties with the club and say the heck with United,
and break all bonds of fellowship,
but it is not this day.
Loss of 3 points every week and shattered hopes,
when the history of Manchester United comes crashing down,
but it is not this day!
A day may come when we lose so much hope that we don't even bother going to the games,
when we forget our tellys and say the heck with saturdays and sundays,
But it is not this day!
By all that you hold dear, for United, for the history, for the Busby Babes, for Old Trafford,
In this hour of need, when the club needs us the most,
I bid you stand, Fans of United!
This day we fight!

1.) Thank you Aragorn.

2.) Aragorn's battle cry from Lord Of The Rings I believe? Unfortunately, when I look at David Moyes all I can see is Gollem! lol

3.) Betty, lol, that made me laugh more that it should have

4.) Remember, BELIEVE.

5.) Nomid, what's with the BELIEVE thing all the time?

6.) Betty
Just believe

7.) If you need to ask Betty, then you'll never really BELIEVE!

8.) BELIEVE was the world class one page advert United put into the daily papers on day of Champs League Final in 99.

The United crest and that one simple word in bold beneath it.

Still makes me smile now.

So chin up kids because Halesini is putting his Red and White tinted specs on and is going to have some of the 4/1 on offer for a United victory.

CHHHAAAAARRRRRRRGGGGEEEEEE!!!!!

9.) Guys, can someone please explain? I have obviously missed something.

10.) Syd believes

11.) Just BELIEVE!

12.) Believe for Manchester united is what you'll never walk alone to Liverpool, with much less history on it, and no song coming from it.

Its kind of a battle cry, made famous in the treble season before the champions league final. The exact circumstances are unknown to me, I was a bit young at the time.

13.) There is no stopping us we are lions! Victory is yours, TAKE IT!

14.) Betty, don't worry. It's just some of the Chicken Licken brigade trying to be facetious :)

15.) Steveie

Does that chicken come with barbecue sauce or a hot sauce. I might have to help myself to some shortly just to make sure they behave themselves.

16.) I know the CL advert bit but why all the sarcastic and p*@s taking posts? Perhaps I'm just the thick one :)

17.) How young are you boys?

It's Chicken Licken from the children's book, who ran around convincing all his animal friends that the sky was falling in!

God, I feel old.

18.) Taste man flesh! Erm maybe not.

19.) Betty

The believe stuff recently relates to those who doubted Moyes and were told that because they didn't "believe" it prevented Moyes from succeeding.

20.) Stevie, I knew what you meant! Bet I'm much older than you!
Be, "believe" is what we had in cl tie a against barca a few years back. Scholesy scored the winning goal with a thirty yard thunderbolt.
Some poster mentioned it earlier in the season, and said if we all "believe" then we'll be fine. So here I am "believing"! And I "believe" we will get a draw tomorrow.

21.) StevieK, at least I got the Chicken Licken thing so I don't feel quite so thick now :) Turkey Lurkey would be proud! Like you said, it must be an age thing lol.

22.) It was in reference to a comment earlier in the season that if you didn't believe united would finish above the scouse it made u less of a supporter .
All a bit childish I know

23.) Speaking of the scourers, they are very lucky not be down by 2 or 3 goals against villa. Would be great for us if AV can spring an upset. Keeping fingers crossed.

24.) Villa played really well a bit like they finished against arsenal.
Could do with more of the same in the second half

25.) Maybe not, villa falling apart.

26.) Shame as Villa have done pretty well in open play and Liverpool's biggest chances have come from the long ball over the top.

Was that Messi playing for us in no.10 in the first half? . Absolutely delighted with how we've played so far. RVP hasn't had the best of games but the rest of the team look so good. Fellaini has settled well, Carrick reliable and excellent as usual, lovely touches by Kagawa, and Smalling along with Vidic & Ferdinand has been a rock at the back. Also, I think we're starting to see the old Valencia we all love.

Hope this continues for the second half.

Unlike most people in here, I am glad Ronaldo is signing a new contract with Real, at least now the nonsense like 'Ronny come back home' will stop. He moved on a long time ago, shame some of us fans could not.
That is who Cristiano Ronaldo is, he only cares about Cristiano Ronaldo. He always said Real Madrid was his dream club, and he likes it there.
What I was more baffled by was some fans cursing and swearing at Rooney and saying we should sell him to Chelsea when he carried the club after Tevez and Ronaldo left. But wishing for Ronaldo to come back who left us saying madrid was his dream club.

now MOVE ON!

Adey

1.) Adey

I love you man ;) . In a brotherly sense of course :D . I have been saying this for almost an year. Couldn't have put it better! I am sure ED 007 will be happy about it.

It is a pity how people go crazy about a player playing for another club, the same one who had flashed his knickers at Madrid to force the transfer through and compared himself to a slave playing for United. And then slate OUR players day in day out. I am glad, I hope we move on.

Will we get another "He is coming home" post?

Deeps. {Ed007's Note - I'd have been as happy as anyone to see Ronaldo coming back to OT, it is all the fawning over him and the fans selective memories about the circumstances he left under that got on my nerves. I don't think Ronaldo ever intended returning, he knew he could use Utd as a bargaining tool to get what he wanted from Madrid and that is exactly what he has done. Hopefully Rooney can get back to a kind of form that gives Utd no option to give him a new deal. He has had one poor season out of 10 and some people wanted him chased out of the club over it.}

2.) Well said adey and 007

3.) When you guys are finished hugging each other :) he had a ok game nothing to go gaga about. Good goal but still lacking sharpness.

4.) Lol Shahram, I would rather go gaga over Tom Cleverly's girl friend.

I think you will probably just start tolerating TC23 then ;) .

By the way, Rooney was our best player on the pitch along with Carrick. A good performance I would say. let's hope he delivers the good this season.

Deeps.

5.) I would still like to see him play further up the pitch as I have never been a fan of him playing in midfield and think half his personal issues came from playing too deep and getting frustrated. He is born striker and even though he has lost his pace he is most effective in the box.

Credit to DM as whatever he is doing, we are getting some glimpses of wayne Rooney from 2 to 3 years ago. He needs games and hopefully can stay injury free.

Big games this week, will miss the CL game unfortunately due to travel and being on a plane but looking forward to the city game and seeing Fellaini and tour going at it :)

Hope he does what Fletcher did a few years ago to Viera in that much publicized game.

This window has turned into a farce, it's an absolute disgrace. Woodward should leave his post immediately. And I think it's time to bring back the green and cold. All these years we were doing fine only because of Sir.Alex Ferguson, and he was the one in control of the club. But now, the leeches that are the Glazers who suck everything from our club & Woodward are destroying our reputation. We need owners who love the club and what it stands for.

And I can't help but think about poor Herrera, hope we do get him in the next window. He actually wanted to come to us, even agreed to take a pay cut.

Woodward is absolute disgrace. Fools like these will ruin the name of our great club shaped by the greats like Sir.Matt Busby and Sir.Alex Ferguson.

1.) Dear mr adey
ngiak totally disagrees with you
it's a transition period
give them a chance
adding pressure like this will not help
and it will make things worse
at least give them till January or a season.
moyes is Scottish and he has sir alex backing .
ngiak believes he will stamp his authority soon
and things will improve
chill and give them time
gan

2.) Ngiak, I know it's a learning curve for Moyes and Ed, but this summer we really needed that creative midfielder and this summer wasn't a time for mistakes. We have just lost our manager of 27 years. Moyes should have got the players he identified as important for this coming season. Left-back, creative midfielder and Fellaini. Out of the three I would say Fellaini was the least important and we may now pay the price for Ed's inexperience and lack of contacts in the game.

3.) Gan Sir,

Are you including Woodward in "them"? If you are then I am sorry, we are not a practice ground for incompetent fools like Woodward. We are not a subject for a trial and error experiment. He needs to go, first and foremost. I don't believe after all of this farce, we came across as arrogant dimwits.

Deeps.

Seeing how he single handedly won Spurs games which they never looked like winning, I'd pay that amount for him!. Age is on his side, if he can keep on doing what he did this season for 4-5 years, 70 million seems pretty good. BUT, I don't see him coming to United this season. If he doesn't go to Madrid, then maybe next season, but currently, no chance.

Contrary to the popular belief, I don't think defense is the problem. Putting hummels in there is not going to solve it overnight. Defence is about understanding, organization and that comes with players playing together and getting used to each other which isn't happening at the moment because of injuries and insistence on back 3. If we play the same back 4 over several weeks, we'll get better.

The main problem however, is the lack of creativity in the team, and that too I blame on the formation and structure of the team. So, in other words, LVG is to blame. We need just one player this window, and that is a right back.

What most of us seem to have forgotten due to our poor form last season was that we had a really good CL campaign under Moyes, better than we had done in 2 previous seasons under SAF.

We demolished Leverkusen both home and away, were unbeaten in our CL group with 4 victories and 2 draws. Nearly managed to beat the holders Bayern had it not for momentary lapse of concentration after Evra's goal.

And all the points you've made about Arsenal, Liverpool, who's to say Moyes wouldn't have done any better if he was our manager now without CL and only 2 teams firing at the top.

So, I don't think LVG has done extraordinarily well as some have made out, the performances were good at the start, but have been really inconsistent since then. It was the same with Moyes beating swansea 4-0, leverkusen with something like 4-0, etc. Maybe Moyes would have got results as well if he had been given a full week to prepare and 160 million to spend.

Which bring me to my next point that regarding performances and results, we've not done anything significant. But the team atmosphere seems a lot better now, and the confidence LVG has is showing. That's the only thing different from last season as Moyes was clearly out of his depth dealing with the press and being a manager of a top club. But maybe that would have come with experience, who knows.

P.s. The likes of Ferdinand and Vidic clearly didn't like Moyes's methods, and had LVG come straight after Fergie who's to say they wouldn't have liked him either.
