Right lads, here goes - I'm on the scrounge. You might not know that my mother-in-law passed away in June due to complications with Alzheimers so my wife and 5 other family members are doing a sponsored walk this Saturday to raise money for Alzheimer Scotland. The charity asks that each participant tries to raise £100 and I'm hoping you guys can help out. Any money collected will be shared equally between all 6 of them to help them reach their target.
If you can afford to donate anything, no matter how small, click HERE or cut and paste the following URL to go to the donate page I've set up.

All donations are really appreciated and the page will be open until the end of the month. I'll try not to be a pest bumping it on the sites. :=D

Don't worry Bond, when I get a chance I'll chuck you some pennies. Lol. I'm used to picking up Scotlands tab. Lol.

{Ed007's Note - Thanks Shappy. I know it's a bad time for people in the middle of the month but I had to put it up before they done it or it would sound a bit dodgy I reckon.}

2.) 13 Sep 2016 18:56:45
Put one through mate but got no confirmation let me know if it didn't go through. Good cause. Ken.

{Ed007's Note - Thank you, but if you sent it as ken I can't see it mate. And a huge thanks to the others who have donated.}

3.) 14 Sep 2016 15:43:49
No worries mate, all for a good cause.

4.) 14 Sep 2016 18:19:27
Thanks ed I was on my phone will sort it tomorrow from pc. Cheers.

{Ed007's Note - Brilliant, thanks.}

5.) 14 Sep 2016 18:29:45
Get it done next week bond post a reminder next week as I am a right forgetful nelly as I imagine most are 😊.

{Ed007's Note - Thanks very much Deano, I'll post it back up now and again but I don't want to be a pest. On the other hand my Mrs is noting all your names and IP addresses - she's even asked me how to use the program we use for turning on your webcams..... ;-)

6.) 15 Sep 2016 20:15:43
Please god here my prayer. Rojo. Darmian. Depay . to go in the January transfer window.
Amen.

7.) 15 Sep 2016 21:07:45
Ed07, me and Beast have a £10 side bet on the Watford/ Utd game at the weekend. You can have the tenner, mate. Hopefully Beast is paying.

{Ed007's Note - Thanks very much bud.}

8.) 17 Sep 2016 18:50:35
Stevie - FYI - I'm not on live-chat tomorrow mate. I thought the game was 4pm K/ O, but as it's 12pm that's 2am where I am so I won't be online, I'm so unlucky with these times at the minute. But I hope I'm the one paying up and didn't want you to think I was skulking off. Probably for the best I'm not on there because it will be horrible if I end up saying I told you so as I lose either way, haha.

9.) 17 Sep 2016 18:51:15
Sorry 4am which is worse.

10.) 18 Sep 2016 23:48:58
That's a tenner on it's way, Bond. At least someone will benefit from my misplaced optimism!

{Ed007's Note - You're a star mate, thanks very much.}

PEPGIGGS how in the world u got 3 disagree for this

3.) 12 Jul 2015 10:09:50
Eds , a bit off topic from the OP, but is there really any benefit from having the agree / disagreement boxes?
The above post is probably the best example yet of how this option is completely misused in many cases.
This is not a whinge or a moan , just an observation.

{Ed001's Note - I don't even look at them personally, but some people like them and we got loads of complaints when we removed them.}

4.) 12 Jul 2015 10:38:33
Ok Ed , fair do's. Don't use it myself either , just see some of the bazaar responses. I recon if someone posted "today is Sunday" , it would vey some disagrees.

5.) 12 Jul 2015 11:22:48
Because people don't like me dwill ;)

6.) 12 Jul 2015 12:49:05
nothing wrong with having agree/disagree boxes because this site is all about opinions which people may or may not share. Maybe it could be improved by only allowing a disagree to be counted if it accompanied with a reason why. I posted 'my opinion' regarding our striker situation this morning, 2 people have disagreed without putting why. They maybe right and i maybe wrong but unless they give their reasoning we can't have a constructive debate which is surely what the banter site is all about.

{Ed007's Note - That's the way I'd rather they worked as well, as they are they're only used by trolls who can't think of anything to counter an argument.}

7.) 13 Jul 2015 07:33:24
The fact that ed007 has agreed with me and yet 4 people have disagreed without saying why rather makes my point.

{Ed001's Note - the whole point is that they are there for those who don't have time or just simply do not want to reply. I don't understand why people care? I have never looked at stuff like that, perhaps people should just grow up and stop worrying if people agree or disagree? Better to have the button, rather than just people saying I agree or I disagree as was happening previously. Other than that, who are you to say people should type something? Why should they? They might not care enough to bother getting into a discussion about it, but just want to disagree. On posts like this, I agree we do need to have some kind of system to disable them, other than that, does it matter?}

Celtic have confirmed the signing of Saidy Janko from Manchester United on a four year contract, subject to receiving satisfactory medical results which should be with the Club tomorrow morning.

Ed007

1.) 01 Jul 2015 18:44:33
Great signing for your lot ed

2.) 01 Jul 2015 19:10:51
Good day for you Ed.

3.) 01 Jul 2015 19:42:40
Hope it works out well for Celtic and Janko.
I thought Janko was well thought of by the club and it seems strange to let him leave permanently.

Let's hope Janko's leaving is because we have a much better prospect already with us (Varela?) or we have a better player coming in.

4.) 02 Jul 2015 19:32:49
Ed007 think celtic have got a good player in janko, bit raw still but plenty of potential. Hows about van dijk heading to old trafford to continue his development ;)

{Ed007's Note - He won't be going anywhere until after the CL qualifiers.}

5.) 02 Jul 2015 21:43:24
Does his exit depend on how the qualifiers go ed? Appreciate this is not related to united as haven't seen us linked but asking as always watched out for celtic redults due to my dad (man utd fan) going on and on about jinky johnson who he saw often when worked up there (he apparently was comparable with best).

{Ed007's Note - Your dad has good taste, you should probably listen to him more :) I think VVD will be away from Celtic once the CL qualifiers are done whether we qualify or not, if we do that'll be our slim chance of getting him to stay depending who is in for him.
Utd have an interest but they see him as a squad player and he won't move to sit on the bench so it never really went anywhere which surprised me as LvG spoke to van Dijk before the World Cup and told him how highly he thought of him and that his chance would come. Arsenal and Southampton were the favourites but Arsenal's interest has waned and although clubs like Norwich and Sunderland have been linked I'd say Southampton would be most likely, the clubs have a good relationship after a few deals in recent years that have been beneficial to both clubs.
There was a murmur in Scotland that Man City were interested but I think that was just because of Celtic and Deila's connections with City just now and it made a good headline on a slow day.}

6.) 03 Jul 2015 08:47:45
Cheers for the update ed and i would say good luck to celtic for the new season but don't think they need it. At least you can enjoy the farcical sideshow from the blue mob and see how embarrasing it gets this year.

{Ed007's Note - Thanks mate. We've bigger fish to fry this year - we need to make the CL group stages. The comedy show at Ibrox will always be there for $hi1ts and giggles.}

Legends of Football Number 1: Rene Higuita

11 Oct 2017 18:33:08
{Ed's Note - we have posted a new article entitled, Legends of Football Number 1: Rene Higuita

Ed007

1.) 12 Oct 2017 07:23:47
001 that odds a great read. One of the best you have done. I would imagine you could have filled pages with stories about him. He is responsible for the way a lot of keepers and coaches look at and play the keeper game today. Mad as a box of frogs but a true legend of the game imo.
Great article. i'm sure your list is very extensive but if you get a chance and the data is available i think sir Stanley Mathews would be a good subject. A player that by all accounts was years ahead of his time and could still play today with his style I'd love to see an article like that on him. Cheers.

{Ed001's Note - thank you ken, glad you enjoyed that. You are right, the hardest part was what to leave out, there is enough material to write a full book on him. He was brilliant and a much better player than he is given credit for.

I have added Matthews to the list, that is a great shout. He was obsessive about physical fitness, in a way none of his contemporaries were, which is why he played into his 50s.}

2.) 12 Oct 2017 16:15:38
Have you considered maybe doing a book? Either full length on Higuita or maybe on a selection of players.

{Ed001's Note - yes mate, but then you have to get a publisher etc.}

3.) 12 Oct 2017 17:49:47
Cheers ed. Ill look forward to that one.

{Ed001's Note - glad to hear it mate. I look forward to learning more about these players while doing the research as well. I wish I had started doing these articles years ago now.}

4.) 12 Oct 2017 20:09:08
Could always self publish ed.

{Ed001's Note - true, I have thought about it, writing books is what I always wanted to do. You have a point, I will look into it.}

5.) 13 Oct 2017 16:50:09
Good stuff look forward to asking for them for future Christmases.

{Ed001's Note - I would be delighted if you did that.}

6.) 13 Oct 2017 18:25:53
Id read them. Got a nice football section on the shelf.

{Ed001's Note - I used to have hundreds of them, people would always buy me them for xmas and bdays, which was great.

Most Overrated Managers?

26 Sep 2017 07:12:46
{Ed's Note - we have posted a new article entitled, Most Overrated Managers?

Ed007

1.) 26 Sep 2017 07:31:11
Great article ed. Points about guardiola echo my sentiments completely.

Not sold on him whatsoever. I think he's been extremely blessed with having already incredible squads and vast sums of money.

{Ed001's Note - that is the thing, even now if he wins the league does that make him a great manager? I am not convinced.}

2.) 26 Sep 2017 08:40:30
There isn't another manager that gets his teams playing the way pep does imo.
Managing big teams big egos and winning big cups is an art in its self and pep does that very well .
One of the best managers in the world imo and that's why the big teams want him .
When he leaves city all the big clubs will be queuing up for pep because he delivers titles and a style of football that everyone wants .

3.) 26 Sep 2017 08:36:14
Great read Ed001, very interesting and not much I disagree with. Although I feel you might have been slightly harsh on some of the younger managers on the list as I feel they have good potential and it might be a bit soon to judge them. But they have been overrated as it stands.
One name that didn't crop up on your list I see is Arsene Wenger. Personally I think he is the fore runner to Pep. Obsessed with playing a certain way to the point of neglect to other aspects of the game they feel are unimportant. People laud Arsene with changing the EPL, but did he? Or was that just the way football was going at the time. The bulk of his success was built on the defence he inherited plus the one good signing of Sol Campbell. Since then in 12 years he has struggled to maintain the same level of success as he has refused to teach his players how to defend.
I see People going the same way, he has just been blessed with having some of the best offensive players in the world at his disposal of the funds to buy them.

I'd love to see a similar list of managers you think are underrated or managers you think are top managers.

{Ed001's Note - the reason I left out Wenger is because he has lost a lot of his backers in the media lately and is now seen as a bit of a dinosaur by most.

I will put those on my to do list for you Shaps, glad you enjoyed that one.}

4.) 26 Sep 2017 08:57:59
Wenger came in and changed the attitude of English football, looks well past it now .
Wenger and arsenal seem to have lost the ability to take players and teams to the next level .
Petit vieira Henry there are few more all come in and in there own way changed the game in England.
I think Wenger was a step ahead of the game when he first arrived in England but hasn't been able stay there seems to be trying to do all the same things .
Can't teach a old dog new tricks.

5.) 26 Sep 2017 09:01:06
Totally agree on Pep, he has proven nothing since Barcelona and let's be honest any one of us could have managed that Barcelona team to success. He gets lauded by the media yet his time at Bayern who were the best around was regarded a failure and he's again thrown money around for no success with City, yeah his team attack well but He doesn't seem to be able to adapt to leagues different to Spain or be tactically aware ha teams cannot defend, but any tactical move he makes no matter how ridiculous it is, is praised as innovative, perception will have you believe he is the best around, proofs in the pudding tho, I'm not seeing any proof atm.

6.) 26 Sep 2017 09:42:31
Who's a far better manager than pep then?
Is Jose, couldn't win a CL with Madrid or Chelsea did very well to win it with inter and Porto but boy did them 2 teams have some luck .
Madrid and Chelsea had huge spends during Jose time .
Pep didn't win a CL with bayern but dominated a the league in a way heynekes and many other Bayer managers couldn't.

You can pick holes in any managers cv want you can't do is add titles and pep has won 6 leagues and 2 CL in 8 seasons playing very entertaining football.

Is he the messiah the media make him out to be? Who listens to the media

Is he one of the best managers in the world? Yes imo.

7.) 26 Sep 2017 10:07:20
Sounds like you're a bit hurt over pep jred.

8.) 26 Sep 2017 10:20:55
Jred are saying that pep didn't have luck, because I remember them winning a CL final they would never have reached but for a blind ref who denied 3-4 legitimate penalty shouts against them v Chelsea. And as article says he took a Bayern team who were the best in Europe when he took over and got them humiliated by equal teams in CL, some real best manager stuff there. Also only reason he kept winning the Bundesliga the way he did is because he bought out his opponents best players, something he can't do that in England that easily, he didn't win the league last season, i wonder why.

9.) 26 Sep 2017 10:28:25
Are we talking about the same guardiola that got beat 3 times in the row by spanish and italian team in the champions league.

10.) 26 Sep 2017 10:41:47
Bit harsh saying pep has done nothing other than in Spain . In 3 year at Bayern won the league every year, did the double twice, won the uefa super cup and the FIFA club world cup. He won 7 trophies with Bayern in 3 year . Whether the club world cup and uefa super cup are truly competitive trophies is debatable but our manager counted the community shield as one . I do get the point pep hasn't had to learn the hard way with the teams he's had but he has won an awful lot and his teams are entertaining.

11.) 26 Sep 2017 10:43:06
Angle
Not hurt pal it's a discussion, I think he is good manager same as I think Jose is .
Csm
Bayer have always bought the best in Germany from there rivals .

Again you can pick holes in any manager or players cv look at Jose in his last year at Chelsea sacked 4 points above relegation infact look at jose last stint at chelses, compare that to 3 titles in a row for pep at Munich.

He didn't win the league last year well only one manager did but to be fair he won 6 year titles in the previous 7 year who can say that?

I think Jose is a great manager but he spent a fourtune and only ended up 6th, still a top manager imo .

If pep is not a top manager then tell me who is?

12.) 26 Sep 2017 10:45:27
I think pep is overrated, very lucky to have the squads he had. That barcelona team was very very special. He went to Bayern after that and won the german league, big woop. Best squad by miles, most money.

Now at City, has thrown 100's of millions at transfers and flattered to deceive last year.

If he doesn't manage to win anything this year, will he still be held in such high esteem by some? Or will he finally be seen as overrated.

Rijkard also won a lot with that barcelona team, how has his managerial career gone since leaving? He didn't walk into a team like Bayern afterwards.

13.) 26 Sep 2017 11:02:01
Jred, I think you might have slightly missed the point. No one is saying Pep isn't a good manager, he clearly is. But is he as good as the media portraits? If not then no matter how good he is he is still overrated.

Pep maybe the best manager in the world, he certainly is one of them. But sections of the media try and portray him as the greatest manager ever? Which he isn't. So therefore he is overrated.

I love the way Pep's team move forward, offensively they are so fluid. But they do have a lack of fight, lack of defensive accumen and very rarely does he resort to a plan B. He has absolute belief that if his team keep going with plan A eventually it will work. That's either dangerous arrogant or painfully naive. He has flaws as a manager which the media like to skate over in order to portray him as the managerial God who has decended from heaven to teach us mere mortals how football should be played.

Very good manager, but overrated.

14.) 26 Sep 2017 11:03:50
So who are all these great managers that are better than pep?
He didn't win the ECL with Bayern did win 7 trophies in 3 year tho .

Let's put the same standards and arguments to all these other great managers .

15.) 26 Sep 2017 11:14:10
Shappy why should a manager be judged on what the media print .
Do people really take notice of the rubbish printed in the papers?

He was given the top job at Barcelona, Bayer and city for a reason he is clearly rated by people in the game I very much doubt that is based on what they have read in the rags .

I agree he is clearly one of the best managers in the world.

16.) 26 Sep 2017 12:07:12
Based on your comments jred, I guess Zidane would be the best manager in the history of football. He has done something that no other manager, including the messiah, has never achieved. Back to back CL titles.

17.) 26 Sep 2017 12:18:02
Isnt the original point of the post about the media overrating pep as the best ever manager. He ia a good manager but that is it.

Wenger has been playing similar attacking football for last 10 years and we all know how much he has won.

18.) 26 Sep 2017 12:49:30
There are good managers out there, definitely.
Great manager? There are only but a few. One of the greatest was SAF. Arsene Wenger can be considered a better than good manager but not yet that great. So for me Pep is definitely nowhere near great. At least not for the time being. But he is a good manager.
A great manager has to perform over time and been through most difficult times and come out tops time and time again just like SAF.
So I would wholeheartedly agree that Pep is very much overrated now but he may become great in years to come. Definitely not now.

19.) 26 Sep 2017 12:50:12
I think he's a good coach, especially in terms of attacking football. But not a good manager. Iffy track record in the market. Over reliant on one style. He's never had to build a team.

Big whoop about the bundesliga. Bayern has dominated that for 20 years apart from brief spells when they were in transition. And they just went and bought players off the challengers.

The pressure is on him this season after that spend. If he fails this year then next season its even more pressure. Then he'll be off.

20.) 26 Sep 2017 13:30:51
In my opinion your only a great manager if you can rebuild teams while continuing success. SAF did it. Shankly, Paisley and Wenger to a certain degree. Pep and Jose have not been anywhere long enough to have to do that. Fergie built about six squads in his time. And we always competed. Walking into teams like Barca, bayern and Real, you know you have to win immediately. It's more about managing egos then training those kinds of players. Pep, Jose, Mancini etc all have their own egos to manage too. In my opinion the reason Fergie was so successful was that he made sure, no matter who the player was, that they knew that no-one is bigger than the club. That includes the manager.

21.) 26 Sep 2017 14:22:48
Great read Ed001

Underrated Managers next?

{Ed001's Note - it is on the list but I don't know if it will be what I do next.}

22.) 26 Sep 2017 14:56:07
Sean Dyche Utd Road. For me the most under-rated in the premier league.

WOuld love to read your thoughts on that ed001.

{Ed001's Note - I really rate Dyche, just wish he would keep his mouth shut at times. He has a tendency to sound like a whiner sometimes. Mostly about how no one rates him as well, funnily enough!}

23.) 26 Sep 2017 15:59:16
I like Bielsa because of the way his teams play and he's a bit of a nutter.

Premier League Transfer Window Assessment

13 Sep 2017 06:42:47
{Ed's Note - we have posted a new article entitled, Premier League Transfer Window Assessment

Ed007

1.) 13 Sep 2017 12:42:54
001. Great read. I think as always there will be a couple of the high profile mega money (30 mill plus) that will turn out to be flops or bad buys and some that will be huge hits.
Is there any one of those signings that you look at after 5 or 6 games and think. Yes great deal because he has had a major impact on the team play already?
I think salah has been great and liverpool look more balanced and direct going forward
I think matic at united has been pivitol to the good start and the team looks so much better and solid.
I think mendy will create loads at city
Robertson could well be a bargin.
I think moratta will be a big force at chelsea.
On the flip side i can see danilo getting the bigger share of games than the more expensive walker and i don't think that Aoc will justify the cost at liverpool.

{Ed001's Note - you have pretty much said it for me mate. Though I would add that Brighton bought a dodgy keeper in Ryan. Lejeune looks to be a great buy for Newcastle and Merino is showing up well so far apart from the dodgy dive. Watford got a bargain in Chalobah for just £5m apparently, so Watford tell me.
I really believe Leicester have made a mistake with Maguire, their defensive record has deteriorated so quickly with him in the side, but somehow he is a media darling so no one points out how crap he actually is at defending. West Brom's incomings I just don't get at all. None of them looks likely to improve things for them.
The one that really stands out as a poor buy for me is Keane, I am not a fan of him at all. Very average player brought in to a geriatric backline. They needed to redo their whole centre of defence, not just bring in one player and think it would work.
Bakayoko could be a big signing for Chelsea as well, much better suited to their midfield needs than Matic, who is a much better fit at United. Oh and Ederson at City looks a huge leap forward from Head & Shoulders or Juliet Bravo.}

2.) 13 Sep 2017 13:35:58
Ed i'm not convinced by edderson yet. I agree with keane he is very slow and looks like a rabbit in the headlights from time to time. The best pick of the lot from you is the lad at Newcastle i like him a lot.

{Ed001's Note - Ederson makes saves though, which makes him a 100 times better than Hart and Bravo.}

3.) 13 Sep 2017 18:58:25
I like the look of Morata but let's see how he copes with a long English season. Salah looks classy but also flaky to me, I think his head may go down if things don't go well.

Matic has been great' just hope he can sustazing it. Chalobah loks to be a steal.

Interesting read that Bond or should I say McMaccaBale, just goes to show nobody apart from the parties involves and connected people really don't know an awful lot.

{Ed001's Note - yeah it wasn't Bondy who wrote it, it is far too intelligible for 007!}

Ha, Sorry Ed was it you? Very interesting insight I have to say.

{Ed001's Note - no mate, I have never been involved in clickbaiting, it is a pet hate of mine. In fact I have gone to great lengths to avoid it.}

It is so easy to get lured in, since I've discovered this site I don't even watch sports news anymore except for the scores, that seems like it's going more like click bait these days.

{Ed001's Note - I have stopped bothering with any news at all these days.}
