Hi eds, I just heard Inter and Juve could be embroiled in a bizarre swap deal, involving Freddy Guarin and Marko Vucinic. Surely if Juve bring in another CM then one has to go?

Im just wondering could we have possibly made any further in roads on Vidal/Marchisio/Pogba?

Thanks

GALWAY RED

{Ed002's Note - Nothing has changed.}

1.) 20 Jan 2014 18:06:08
But surely Pirlo, Pogba, Vidal and Guadrin can't fit in one team ed? I have a feeling Vidal or Mata could happen

{Ed004's Note - Im not getting my hopes up}

2.) I know Pirlo is in the twilight of his career, but Juve have such an array of midfield talent it's almost disgusting.

Fingers crossed we can pry Vidal away from them. I would hold more hope of that happening than any of their other midfielders.

3.) Pogba is doing great in an average league, do you really think he would cut it in the prem, if so why wouldn't he of got his chance? ronaldo did

From what I've heard Moyes is trying to bring Vidal in in this window? I seen him at cagliari and thought Marchisio straight away but have heard its a rather large bid for Vida on the cards. any truth eds?

GALWAY RED

1.) Giuseppe Marrotta Juventus general director has all but said marchisio, pogba, or pirlo won't be moving. Nothing mentioned about vidal.
Fingers crossed!
He'd be the one i'd choose for us.
If ed02 is free, would love to kno if you kno anything to do with this.

Cheers

Well I hope so.
In Moyes we trust.

Any of ye agree that Martial looked really good on the left of a front three for France?

I think it would be better to drop Memphis against Everton, play Martial left wing and Wilson in the centre. if Rooney isn't fully fit.

I think it could bare fruit to use Memphis as a sub, it might show him he needs to actually work hard to succeed in the Prem as I've seen quiet a few lazy performances. He has started every game(i think) but certainly hasn't earned that right yet.

Martial's future will be as our striker so I don't see any reason why we shouldn't play him as one. As I have said, Young left, Mata right and drop Memphis and Rooney to the bench.

Players should be made aware that they will be dropped if they don't perform.

2.) 13 Oct 2015 11:09:31
I wouldn't move him away from the No.9 position atm as we don't have a better option upfront than him. If he has a spell when he starts to struggle, and we have a better option for the main striker role then maybe move him to take some pressure off and allow him to develop other areas of his game.

It's good that he looks a treat from that position with his national team, as its another option for us. But I just don't think its the best option at this time.

3.) 13 Oct 2015 12:36:08
Martial has to stay at number 9. It would be crazy to move him IMO.

4.) 13 Oct 2015 12:39:04
It would be bad for his confidence to move him also. He is so composed, there aren't that many better finishers around to be honest.

Just my 2 cents, but I reckon Woodward has spoken to Vidals agent and has been told Arturo wants the move and the deal on this side is complete. Juve on the other hand will hold out for their asking price as they have no need to sell.

Its a dangerous game being played by Woodie, as an asking price offer from another big club could tempt Vidal and we cannot afford to miss out on this one imo. Not every day a player of this calibre comes along.

I have several concerns - the two most poignant being as follows.

It seems pretty much a given that Juventus need to sell in order to buy and according to Ed002 they'll likely sell one of Pogba and Vidal with their preference being that Pogba is the one to leave. The longer we haggle over the price the more likely it is that somebody makes an acceptable offer for Pogba in the meantime. If that happens any deal for Vidal could be dead in the water.

My second concern is our reluctance to pay what's needed. It's hard to get a reading of exactly what that amount is given that all of the papers seem to offer varying suggestions; but a common figure that seems to crop up is €44m/£35m.

Assuming that's anywhere near accurate; how would the player feel about us valuing him at less than £7.5m more than Fellaini or less than Andy Carrol. Our reluctance to pay what's needed raises questions about our valuation of/regard for the player and if I were Vidal I'd maybe feel that any club that came in offering the full amount wanted me a hell of a lot more than one who spent weeks haggling over a few million (especially given our recent sponsorship deal).

Is it only me or is William Carvalho not a carbon copy of Paul Pogba? Maybe a few slight differences, Carvalho seems the better dribbler and Pogba probably has a better shot from distance but other then that they seem remarkably similiar.

Lets hope Carvalho, if we buy him, has a bit more passion about our great club then Pogba.

GALWAY RED

1.) Perfect player for me, we have needed the Pogba / Yaya Toure player and we have got him (if reports are to be believed).

2.) I don't know if it's only you, but I just don't see similarities. Pogba is skillful, great on the ball, and likes to drive forward. His workrate and positioning are average at best though. He does a sub par defensive job most of the time. Carvalho on the other hand is not as skillful on the ball, less creative, but he is significantly stronger and more defensively sound.

3.) They aren't similar but they have similar roles. He is more of a Yaya than a Pogba I think.

4.) Carvalho is nothing like Yaya other than in build. Yaya is strong, skilful and good on the ball and scores lots of goals. Carvalho is physically very strong but his technical ability is very limited. He knows his limitations and plays to his strengths. His positional sense is good as is his tackling. He will break play up and win back possession. But he plays the ball simple and allows better players to do their thing. I've read in here that he is a great passer, good with both feet and likes to burst forwards from midfield. That doesn't would like the player I have watched (only a few times admittedly).
Basically, Calvalho is a commanding, defensive midfiielder who will sit in front if the back 4. He is the ideal type of player to play in a 4231, but is limited technically. He is only just 22 so has plenty of time to develop that side of his game. But he is not this box to box, marauding midfielder that some seem to think.

5.) I think carvalho is more of a viera type player

6.) I have seen him go forward on many occasions and just run past players. His passing isn't terrific but its functional and we will have sufficient players in the team who pass well e.g. Kagawa, Mata, Rooney and any new signings that we make.

Mata superb today, such a pity he is cup tied. Chico played a blinder also. Although he won't start against Bayern. That 4th was something special and i'm hoping Januzaj starts against Bayern, I know he offers nothing defensively but we have to score in Germany more then likely at least twice.

Have we just finally hit a vein of form? Can we do what many thought impossible? i'm not going to get too confident but we have zee Germans rattled, let's get this done, give us something to cheer about this season.

So 3-0 against Olympiakos. Its something youd expect from us. But not this season so it makes it all the sweeter. The heads couldve easily dropped and we couldve just coasted through the game as we have been doing all season.

We may not progress any further but if you aren't in u can't win. On our day we can score goals. Depending on who we are playing but I really think we need to get Kagawa on against a more technical team like Barca. If we play a counter attacking team i'd like to see Fellaini and Fletch together I think theyd be the perfect combo(of what we have) together tbh.

It won't be easy but we have Old Trafford and that support in our favour for one leg. You never know.

Also with Klopp, its almost impossible to emulate what he did at Dortmund. Through a mixture of incredible scouting and incredible luck he built that team. It won't be as easy in England where the press seems to get wind of every player you are following.

Sorry thorne but fletch is now our best cm after 1 full 90min display. that's how desperate(no disrespect to fletch) that we are. We need Vidal, Pogba, Koke or Herrara so badly its not one bit funny. I like Carrick a lot but him alone with Fletch won't do it. We need that someone we just dnt have. I fear chelsea at hme big time

No ed 004 we got neville giggs round and the rest to put on balaclavas, throw them in a huge cage, drive them to the airport and charter them to manchester. that's how we did it

GALWAY RED

{Ed004's Note - I don't see how this plan could have failed. Genius work and all this time Moyes etc have alibis as they're at other games}

I personally think he has been the best youth player brought up this season. Yes Rashford got the headlines but I've been extremely impressed by Varela.

Reminds me of a young Heinze with Evra tendancies :-)

Was so so shocked to see Rojo start wing back vs West Brom ahead of Him.

Rooney was the best young player in the world at 21.

GALWAY RED

{Ed001's Note - only to those who never watched football outside England to see how much better the Portugese, German, Spanish and French youngsters (just for starters) were.}

All Fellaini is good for is a few defensive headers. Does that make him worth playing? He can't pass, he can't dribble, he has no vision, he constantly fouls, he isn't good offensively anymore, he's missed sitters all season i could go on and on. He isn't a footballer he is player you bring on with 10 mins to go and hoof it up to, but even that side of his game is gone.

Im not usually this critical of a united player, everyone deserves a chance once they try, but i NEVER want to see that wigs b*st*rd in a utd shirt again. Imho he's cost us a lot of points this season.

Like all English football talent, If he starts well, they'll destroy him down the road when things go south.
