Fully aware this probably won’t happen but just read today that Meyer is without a club. Would you guys take a punt on him on a free transfer? Always an interesting player from what I’ve seen. Could be great, or could be a kleberson.

Not sure more sulking and over inflated egos are what we require right now.

2.) 21 Jul 2018 23:00:48
There’s probably a reason he doesn’t have a club.

3.) 22 Jul 2018 11:26:20
He apparently thinks he should be earning a lot of money, more than most clubs think he's worth.
Yes, I would take a chance with him but only if he stopped massaging his ego.

I've become so frustrated with the idea of united selling martial. Yes he hasn’t been consistent in terms of form, but he was one of united's best this season in terms of output. I’d dare say that at one point this season I would’ve picked him over rashford (if forced to choose) .

My frustration boils down to the fact that we shouldn’t have purchased Sanchez with martial displaying increasingly better performances. We now stand to lose, in my opinion, one of the biggest talents we’ve had in quite some time. I loved the idea that martial rashford and lingard could form a devastating front partnership, if given time to gel with one another, but we are making snap decisions, which is pushing our club further and further back.

To those that will argue in Sanchez’s defence, I don’t disagree with you, on his day he is a game changer, but imagine if we had panic bought players which pushed ronaldo, or giggs (depending which era you choose) out of the team, without given them a chance to develop. I remember ronaldo wasn’t too dissimilar to martial in his early united career, some games he would look like a world beater and some games he would flatter to deceive.

However, we stuck with him and he turned into quite possibly the greatest attacking threat of our generation. I worry martial won’t get the same opportunity cause we are pigeon holing pogba, sanchez, mata, rashford, lingard and martial into about 3-4 positions, when pogba and Sanchez haven't done enough in my opinion to warrant inclusion.

I also agree that Sanchez is trying his arse off in most games and I agree that the players around him aren’t helping, but martial was managing well with the same level of performance and Sanchez hasn’t proved to be much different, expect that he is nigh on 30 and martials best years are in front of him.

I’m not trying to pick on Sanchez cause I would’ve loved him 4-5 years ago, but we bought martial and we have rashford, both of whom were almost competing with each other at the beginning of the season, which I though was phenomenal for us, but we had to go and buy Sanchez just cause city wanted him. He is in danger of turning into another di Maria and even if he does come good, we don’t have much time left with him.

1.) 18 Apr 2018 17:04:28
He doesn't smile so he can go for free as far as I'm concerned.

2.) 18 Apr 2018 17:04:58
In my opinion you need 2 players in each position to challenge.

We have not yet seen the best of Sanchez and cannot just write him off because all season we have been inconsistant.

If martial doesn't want to stay and earn his right to play in the team then let him go. To be a world class professional you need the attitude to go along with the ability.

{Ed002's Note - The referee would notice the extra players.}

3.) 18 Apr 2018 17:17:56
I’m not writing Sanchez off by any means but realistically we could potentially (if Jose has a change of attitude ) have two or three really good years out of him and we’ve bought him to compete in the left position, when we already had martial and rashford, with martial in particular looking better for us this season. I can understand his attitude to be honest. First he lost his place to zlatan and lukaku and now to Sanchez, after he has been moved from the striker position (although I think lw is better suited to him) . If he doesn’t want to stay then I agree we should let him go, but knowing his luck, he’ll have an amazing end to the season on the right side of our attack and we’ll bloody sign bale.

This game is painful and the season as a whole has been painful. I’ve been a patient united fan since fergie retired, as I accepted that it would take time and I anticipated around a five year wait for potential success.

I watched with interest as Tottenham and Manchester City grew as genuine English power houses and teams like arsenal and Chelsea begin to decline (in Chelsea’s case very slowly but now more noticeable). These developments made me think we would not see such dominance that united enjoyed in the 90’s and part of the 00’s for any other team again, which I’m happy with cause I was excited at the prospect of an unpredictable season each year, so long and united could still create such moments that made me fall in love with them. Moments like the 1999 game against Tottenham with Andy Cole scoring the second goal. Moments like Wayne Rooney’s dominance of Roma, moments like macheda scoring the match winner against Aston Villa.

I was prepared to be patient and as we begun to sign players such as pogba and Sanchez, I dared to dream of those moments we all know and love united for, as players such as martial and rashford showed glimpses of skill and guile, similar to that of giggs/ kanchelskis / sharpe, from when I started watching united I began to anticipate the desperation in our play to score and entertain old Trafford, no this did not come. I was preparing to accept that mourinho isn’t the coach to bring that type of football, as he has a certain style to his play and tbh, he had begun to build a formidable team, so I showed some faith.

Watching this game tonight and it is not even over, I am wondering how you can have a team with pogba, lukaku, Sanchez and mata and look crap and not just crap, but so bad that I can’t resist my wife’s wishes to watch the Brit awards as I am showing no enthusiasm for this game. I can live with losing, but this is so dire that it doesn’t inspire hope. I’ve stopped believing we are going to get a big win soon, because I just can’t see it and that should not be what this team is all about. Forget the Manchester United way, it’s about looking like we want to play, it’s about looking proud to wear the shirt and it’s about believing that we should be the best in the country.

I don’t care if it’s defensive football, we should still look to go for other teams throats and end games and collect points. Mourinho has managed to make players like pogba and Sanchez, look inept and players like rashford and martial void of any talent. Yes the players should be trying harder, yes the players should be doing better, but surely out of moyes, van gaal and mourinho, the latter should have the know how to make this team work. We look pathetic tonight and knowing my luck we will win now I’ve had my big moan up, but I love united and I want these players to make me believe again.

I hope someone has gotten more enjoyment out of tonight cause I am genuinely struggling lads / ladies. After five years, I couldn’t be silent anymore, it’s becoming painful. Saying that, I like mctominay :) he looks a player, with some more games under his belt.

Ditto.

I had mentioned the same a week back and was shot down by GDS 2.

For God's sake, Can people hyping up the red team and take their finger our of the arses and agree that 5 years have passed by and we still look new born.

Players of caliber in ranks of Sanchez, Pogba, Lukaku and we still suck big time.

What I saw and want to summarize for the last 3 games (Newcastle, Huddersfield, Sevilla) - Defend like crazy, get outplayed in mddle as if we don't have a mid field, then a long pass, crazy individual skill/ dribble of front 3 and if (a big if) you' re lucky, get a couple goal and a win (Points! all the regulars here worry about), else lose or draw (De Gea is a superman in goal) .

Absolutely bonkers, how people can defend this football and mention about the table and how tough the UCL away matches are is beyond me.

Hate to say it, the only reason I did not fail to sleep (Belong to India, match at 01.15 AM) was watching De Gea and their so called average player's making moves (proper football ones) .

Surz.

2.) 22 Feb 2018 08:22:42
One thing is for sure (my opinion), we're far to be the close article.
We are adding players that should improve the team, but we still play crap. Yes, most of the time we get the results but at what cost?

The difference between 2º place and and 4th is our DDG, because as team we look like a new born every time we play.
It's time to show some cohesion, urgency. No wonder the atmosphere at Old Trafford is not the great, people don't spend money to watch this every week and be given the excuses the Mou gives.

Let's hope for a win and a great display next game.

“Shot down by GDS 2”. Surprise surprise I didn’t see that coming.

FZZ,

You got a problem mate? Grow up.

If we were to complete the signings of Aurier and Perisic, would the eds / other posters feel we have the squad capable of sustaining a title challenge?

I personally feel that a top 3 finish and a quarter final champions league appearance should be a minimum this year, however I am concerned about how well City have strengthened amidst Tottenham managing to retain (seemingly) their best players. I am also wary of Everton's shrewd transfer window which could potentially take points away from the top 6 teams and wonder if we can be consistent enough to produce a winning run to the top of the league.

What should we realistically expect from this season?

Jwylde90

1.) 01 Aug 2017 12:14:47
I expect our current squad to be able to challenge in the premier league. I feel the Lukaku signing will be the edge we need to compete for the title.

Adding Aurier and Perisic to that and I'd expect us to win it and do well in the UCL.

We have massively under-achieved in recent years when you take into account the players we have and the money we have invested.

2.) 01 Aug 2017 12:11:02
Spurs seed to strengthen, if you stand still you get overtaken and so far they have done nothing. Everton have bought well but I don't see them challenging the top 4. Chelsea fans are panicking about the size of their squad whilst Liverpool's purchases are underwhelming. I get people are worried about City but they were worrried last year and look how that turned out. He's bought well but I am yet to be convinced he understands the league well enough.

So, we need to be challenging domestically, if we add a couple more we have a squad to do that.

{Ed007's Note - You don't see Everton challenging the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal or even a non-improved Spurs for 4th place? As things stand I think Chelsea will struggle in the title race with their small squad and more games to play. I expect Utd and City to fight it out for the title with Chelsea 3rd and Spurs, Liverpool, Arsenal and Everton all battling it out for 4th. Any of them are capable of claiming it if they can string a good run together at some point over the course of the season.}

3.) 01 Aug 2017 12:34:14
Bond, I have a top four of United, City, Chelsea, and Spurs (no idea in what order. I then see Liverpool Arsenal and Everton battling for 5th. What do I know though, my predictions last year were pants.

{Ed007's Note - I'm waiting until nearer the window closing this year before putting my predictions in. I can't believe I predicted the CL final and Utd winning the EL and never put money on it (facepalm)

4.) 01 Aug 2017 13:04:42
I sent my entry in too soon, as I thought I'd forget otherwise. Can they be edited before the season starts?

5.) 01 Aug 2017 13:20:00
I think until the end of the transfer window it's too early to predict things except that I really do expect City to win the league quite easily. Pep has addressed their short comings at the back and their attack and midfield are excellent. Chelsea will surely buy more players as will Spurs and Liverpool. Both of the latter two teams depend on high intensity games and are short on squad members at the moment. If they do bring in quality players I expect them to mount a serious title challenge. Arsenal and Evertons title challenges will need them to get off to a very quick start otherwise I cannot see them being realistic challengers. As for us I still feel we are lightweight in the full back areas and if anything happened to Pogba who could take his place.

Ajh i think you should refuse brendans request 😂😂😂😂😂 do what maze does and enter 47 times. Once under each user name😂.

7.) 01 Aug 2017 14:17:53
Oh dear, Brendan. Did you just get overexcited, mate, and go early? You young people need to learn how to hold it in 😀.

8.) 01 Aug 2017 16:59:04
I did, I usually go forever but the excitement just got too much 😂.

9.) 01 Aug 2017 16:50:21
Thanks for the insight guys, Weggy I'm inclined to agree with but I remember when I got a bit over excited last summer when Pogba signed. Not a terrible season in comparison to the 3 years before and by all accounts I was happy by the end of it, but there were moments that felt painful ( watching second leg against anderlecht at OT stands out) .

I agree with you Ed that we can't discount Everton's potential impact this year on top 4, particularly if the team can gel quickly. Davy Klassen was a player I would've been happy for us to sign (loved his performances for Ajax last year) .

I also agree about Tottenham standing still, however with players like Erikson, Alli and Kane I think they could get away with it for one more year.

10.) 01 Aug 2017 17:21:53
I'm not sure why everyone seems to think man city will run away with the title. Sure they've bought some good players most of which will take time to settle and get used to the league. City though for me are still soft in the midfield yaya isn't the player he used to be and they're also suspect in centre defence and the goalkeeping area. they'll go close but it'll be tighter than many think. I'm also not saying United will win it either though I am hopeful and like what jose is/ has done so far. My top four predictions are United, City, Chelsea and Tottenham in no particular order.

11.) 01 Aug 2017 18:27:42
My top four would be

Chelsea
City
Us
Spurs

Arsenal, Everton and Pool to contest the 5th place.

12.) 01 Aug 2017 18:30:29
Everton are dark horses for me this year I've had them 4th in my predictions.

13.) 01 Aug 2017 18:49:58
Ed mee too i missed the opportunity to bet!

14.) 01 Aug 2017 19:40:28
If we can improve our scoring even by 25percent we have a chance of winning the pl. We were hard to beat last year and I think we will be even harder to beat this year.

Do people see Martial continuing to play on the left side of attack, or would the preference be to see him play more central? I feel if Rashford hadn't suddenly burst onto the scene we'd be playing him more centrally. Perhaps I'm wrong. Thoughts? (Btw this is not a dog at rashford, with the amount of goals he's scoring I'd sooner split up with my missus then see him dropped)

Jwylde90

1.) 27 Sep 2016 20:36:51
He will stay on the left this season. Next season IBRA will be phased out and it will be up to Martial to prove he is a better CF than Rash.

I'd love to see us sign Griezmann and play all 3 of them swapping positions during matches, pulling wide, dropping deep and doubling up on full backs. total football.

2.) 27 Sep 2016 20:55:32
Mouth watering tight mulamno.

3.) 27 Sep 2016 20:55:49
Thought even😊.

4.) 28 Sep 2016 09:56:12
A fluid front three of Martial, Rashford and Griezmann would be mouth watering.

Agreed Cheshire he definitely needs time, as he doesn’t have inifinite resources at his disposal. I think if we look at Chelsea’s model of managerial employment we can see the lack of stability and that it only breeds short burst of success, whereas we desire a dynasty similar to that of SAF.

Getting a bit high up their mighty. Your comment is the literal equivalent of me trying to convince my girlfriend I'm an Olympic athlete cause I won the bean bag event in my year 3 sports day.

Well done on a good win, but make sure, unlike a certain ex-captain of yours, that your comments have good standing cause otherwise you end up slipping up ;)
