Fellaini starting. I guess he's not in Turkey having that medical after all.

MANfromCHESTERunited

1.) 30 Jul 2017 17:37:05
Probably won't sell him: need that option b, you knows the long ball option.

2.) 30 Jul 2017 18:33:01
Too right stand!

3.) 30 Jul 2017 18:47:34
Yeah, or the option of him to come off the bench holding midfield and see a game out, like Everton game last season.

4.) 30 Jul 2017 21:35:25
That the game he gave away the pen MANCHESTER?

5.) 30 Jul 2017 22:37:25
Long ball i swear we have height with pogba n now lukaku for that option n poss zlatan if we resign him in jan! felliani gives 100% can't fault the guy on that plus he bossed Liverpool for two games under van gaal n any1 who does summit good against pool i'm happy with #squad player only tho!

6.) 30 Jul 2017 23:20:50
Thats the one FFZ.

7.) 31 Jul 2017 10:10:40
Or the game against WBA when we were trailing and he came on and scored in the second half. We won that. OR the last minute header against Hull in the League Cup which essentially was the goal that took us into the final. Nah but why count the positives.

8.) 31 Jul 2017 10:18:22
Shan,

Or the goal in the Europa League semi final that if he hadn't scored we would have been knocked out and not in the CL this season. What did the Romans ever do for us.

9.) 31 Jul 2017 10:30:56
Gds that's like saying had he not given away a pen against Everton or a few other things we would have got 4th. Dress it up anyway you like, if you think Fellaini is a good football, that's your opinion. I beg to differ. If he was playing for someone else now would you be hoping to sign him?

10.) 31 Jul 2017 13:08:44
He was playing for someone else and our very own SAF wanted to sign him. but what does he know about football.

11.) 31 Jul 2017 14:05:58
Stand,

That was kind of my point, I am glad you realise that it is nonsense to pick one moment in one game to call a player out on.

I never said I think he is good at football.

12.) 31 Jul 2017 14:06:32
Sorrybut when did SAF want to sign him?

21 Jul 2016 09:22:39
Hairdresser - Pogba deal is done!

MANfromCHESTERunited

1.) 21 Jul 2016 14:07:13
Who should we believe:the hairdresser or the players agent who tweeted that everything is just bla bla bla😒.

2.) 21 Jul 2016 14:59:04
By the sounds of it, it's almost done just negotiating agent fee mino wants €18m we want to pay €9m.

3.) 21 Jul 2016 16:08:49
The hairdresser apparently tweeted that he was fixing his hair for the colour of Pogba's new team. Photos today show it as white. We will have to wait and see if it is a different colour tomorrow.

Hi all,

Quick one for the Eds, is there anything on Gundogan? I've seen a few rumours regarding a summer deal to United! Would be a very good signing IMO

MANfromCHESTERunited

{Ed004's Note - Nothing new. There is interest in him though from Manutd and Arsenal}

1.) 12 May 2015 16:30:54
Are Bayern also interested?

{Ed004's Note - Don't think so}

14 Apr 2014 22:48:34
I think I'm speaking on behalf of nearly EVERY United fan here. Pure and simple, Kagawa MUST stay beyond the summer. He is far, far too good to let go of. Can somebody set up an account for Mr. Moyes please? I for one will be absolutely gutted if we were to let Shinji go, or use him as bait for any other Dortmund player, even Reus! Ed's, do any of you know what the future prospects are looking like for Kagawa, and can you please give us some good news regarding the issue?

MANfromCHESTERunited

{Ed002's Note - I can tell you that there is interest from Inter and that Manchester United would be willing to let him leave.}

1.) I wouldn't be surprised if this happened and it would be an absolute disgrace if it does.
After a few game into the season, Moyes came out and said he had never heard or seen Kagawa before, or how good he was.
Now I will admit I seen him only a few times while he was at Dortmund, but I obviously read the paper and also watched the season he played for us last year. Instantly you can tell his technique is class along with his movement, plus you don't become the German league footballer for nothing!
His best position we all know is behind the striker but of course he won't really get a look in there, he's in the same position at Mata with that one.

2.) Completey dissagree, if it meant a swap for somebody like Marco Reus I would swap him in a hearbeat.

3.) This is another example of Fergie's poor decisions in the transfer market. Obviously he has had some phenominal successes in the transfer market but some decisions have been very poor. E.G. spending £12-15Mill on Kagawa only to buy RVP in the same summer and hence ensure Kagawa will almost never play in his best position. Also I don't think Fergie understood Kagawa and what made him a star in Germany. similar to Moyes. Kagawa shone in a system that suited him down to the ground. Klopp employed a high speed, high intensity system with super quick transitions.Kagawa is superb in transitioning from defence to attack at speed, turning with the ball and playing to multiple quick attackers on the break.
95% of the time we don't play like that so he couldn't play the same way. The slower style we have played for 2 seasons has not suited him, let alone the fact he's started most of those games on the left wing where he has less of an impact anyway.

Anyway, for Shinji's sake I hope he goes back to Dortmund. We'll be losing a superb player but he's too far down the pecking order at No.10 to keep him. It's sad we couldn't have kept him and built the attack around him more.

4.) I'd let him go too he's had 4 or 5 ok games and 2 good ones only.

5.) No you aren't speaking on behalf of every Manchester United fan, i'm a big admirer of kagawa, he's technically brilliant with an eye for a pass but he hasn't done anything other than have a few good games this year, his chances have been limited by moyes but he's still had plenty of chances and for every good game he's had there's another one were he's gone completely missing threw the game and been brought off in second half. the way some fans bang on about him you would think when he has had his chances he's been unplayable, sorry but a few nice touches and passes does not warrant such high praise. if dortmund would sell us reus as long as they could have kagawa as part of the deal then its a no brainer.

6.) As opposed to Fellaini, Cleverley as so on having 0 OK or good games? I'm assuming you only watch the occasional game that's on TV as to even suggest that a good option for the club is to let him go.

For me, if given a run, he will be as influential, if not more, than Juan Mata! The guy won Player of the year in Germany 2 years running before we signed him, in the same league as Reus, Gundogan, Gotze, Muller, Ribery (3rd in Ballon D'or), Robben, Kroos and so on. To sell him would be scandalous!

If this news on Carvalho is true, and we were to invest in a Kroos, Reus or any other quality midfield/forward, we also need to keep our other quality players who would compliment those kind of additions so well! Shinji certainly is one of them! But then again, we could sell him and revert back to 4-4-2 and keep going backwards. I'm sorry, but selling Shinji is plain wrong!

7.) Well you assume wrong, as I stated i'm a big fan of kagawa and i'd rather keep him but if we could get reus coming this way then its a no brainer, you can't keep reverting back to his dortmund form, do you think jose thinks torres is going to rekindle the kinda form which saw him finish 3rd in the ballon d'or in 2008, I highly doubt it. its all well and good hero worshipping a good player but he's got to start delivering and living up to his reputation at some point.

8.) It's also worth considering that if we were to go for and get Klopp as new manager (whatever you may think of him) he my well want to keep hold of Kagawa as he seemed to know how to get the best out of him while he was at Dortmund.

9.) I would not be against us using kagawa as part of a trade but I would be against us just selling him as there is at least 10 players who should be shipped out before kagawa

10.) Your not speaking for me i'd pay his flight home

Will Mikki get to play in his most effective position, centrally? His best games in pre season were there for us, and his player of the season efforts for Dortmund were predominantly there. Pre matic I posted about playing him there, but it appears the Matic signing all but means he will get limited opportunity there. Its a shame because scoring goals was our issue last year and I don't see much to suggest were correcting that. Speedy wide forwards around Mikki (10) and Lukaku would surely create more openings, but at the cost of Pogba/ Herrera/ Matic. I doubt it.

MANfromCHESTERunited

1.) 09 Aug 2017 11:28:10
If we bring a winger in before the window closes I can't see why Mhki won't be used behind Lukaku most of this season.

2.) 09 Aug 2017 11:56:34
Was thinking about this too. Possibly a diamond midfield 4 with Matic at base, Pogba and Herrera and Micki at point behind a front two? Think this will show up our limited full backs though.

3.) 09 Aug 2017 12:13:58
Seems far too narrow though versus all those teams who will sit in. You need productive width against them and our full backs don't offer that really.

4.) 09 Aug 2017 13:53:51
I think it may be a balance of two options. In a 4-2-3-1, Miki would be the best option as the #10, behind Lukaku. Then only two of Pogba, Herrera and Matic in the middle.

Otherwise, a 4-3-3 with those three center mids, and two wingers, from Rashford, Martial, Lingard, and Mata. The squad is pretty deep, once we realize all the options we have.

5.) 09 Aug 2017 14:22:50
We have so many different options we can play a different way against different opposition. What impressed me last night was the different types of players on the bench who could all come on and do different jobs. Having such a versatile squad player like Blind there means that the rest of the subs can be attacking or across the midfield.

24 Jul 2017 00:29:57
Fellaini. The guy just isn't good enough, period! He offers nothing but decent chest control. Not comfortable on the ball, can't tackle, can't really head, so what can he do? I would personally have an emotional celebratory fist pump if he was sold. Taking up squad space ahead of actual talent again this season i'm presuming. Sigh.

MANfromCHESTERunited

{Ed007's Note - And he's STILL not the worst Utd player!}

1.) 24 Jul 2017 00:44:29
I would say he's at best on par with one or two others Ed. Realistically, what club would want him with his wage demands? Joy.

{Ed007's Note - With the money in the English game you'd someone. I think Jose likes the physical presence he's got in certain games and he's a bit sneaky with the rough stuff which Jose probably likes. He brings more to the table than diddys like Smalling and Jones. Remember Smalling getting lauded on here? lmfao!

2.) 24 Jul 2017 06:12:13
Fellani continuous selection shows mourinho preference of physicality over tactical nous, fellani should be no where near a big club like Manchester United. He wouldn't get into any top 7 sides in England excluding us.

3.) 24 Jul 2017 07:09:33
Said for a long time it's unbelievable he's in our squad. Smalling is woeful too. Them two really should be sold.

4.) 24 Jul 2017 09:33:30
Smalling is the new Ferdinand, shame it's Anton.

5.) 24 Jul 2017 09:56:15
I disagree. I think fellani is a good option to have. And Jose loves big strong players.

Not many players can bully him off the ball.

He may not be the best technical player out there but he offers something most players dont.

He's the plan B which most teams don't have.

last season he scored important goals that got vital wins which helped us progress especially in the europa.

The last 10 minutes of games if it's not working out he's been crucial in many of games

There are worse players that should be gone before the wig.

6.) 24 Jul 2017 11:13:49
I agree, he's a last 10 mins arial option if you can't get the goal you need playing more conventionally. He is not a starter, he is not a central midfielder and he's not the calibre of player required to push for elite progression.

7.) 24 Jul 2017 12:01:08
He is not a top top level player but the game is all about having a squad which can compete on many fronts. Every top team has its stars and then it has its water carriers. Fellaini always seems to try hard and in certain situations he is an asset. It's no fluke that successive managers have used him and that he is part of the Belgian national first team.

8.) 24 Jul 2017 13:26:23
He's not a top level player? He's a regular for a strong Belgian team and Jose seems to rate him, he may not be pretty on the eye or the most technically gifted but the abuse he is getting here is plain silly.

9.) 24 Jul 2017 14:28:19
Who has abused who? My point ks this, i'd have Pobga, Herrera, Pereira, Carrick, Blind and Rooney (sorry) all ahead of him in the pecking order for the likely 2 CM roles. What is your point? Belgium the massive under achievers with the attacking talent they have, or United, the team who have made the CL positions once in four years. Not that i'm laying the blame purely on MF, and i'm aware he tries his best. i'm not a hater, i'm a realist. Which of the current top 6 would he play 30 games a season for if he were at their club?

10.) 24 Jul 2017 20:35:00
Fellani is not good enough, which top 10 team will he break into?

22 Jul 2017 19:28:47
My take from the first three pre season games is this. Lukaku looks very willing to work hard for the team. He looks committed to working harder than ever and making more runs in behind and pulling defenders out of their comfort zone, which we missed with Zlatan (who plays more back to goal) . Inevitably those runs cause disorganisation amongst the defensive set up of the opposition, therefore allowing the other attacking players more space.

Another big positive has been the confidence of Rashford, Lingard and particularly Mikki. All quick players who enjoy space to run into and break the lines. I personally see Mikki being like a new signing if he continues how he has started. Personally i'd like to see him playing number 10 as he has the creativity and ability to break the lines and feed other runners around him. Zlatan didn't offer these runs last season, so maybe the arguement of Lukaku only offering his goals isn't true, maybe it has a positive knock on effect for the runners around him.

This theory will also see improvements in Pogbas effectiveness as he has superb vision and range of passing. I personally disagree that we need loads of players to improve us, IMO that is basic tunnel vision. One player can potentially cause a domino effect throughout the team. We didn't score enough last season, and that's what cost us. Bringing in a player who will create attacking spaces and make attacking runs for the creative players to assist and run into could be the solution. On the other hand, it may not be so effective versus the teams who chose to sit deep. Only time will tell I suppose.

I would be happy going into the season with our defensive midfield options of Carrick, Herrera and Pereira. i'd definitely side with giving Pereira opportunities ahead of signing a solid 7/ 10 player like Matic. Unless its a player going to make immediate significant impact then buying, buying, buying isn't the answer IMO.

The positions we need to address are RB in this window or maybe next summer, left back needs sorting, either Shaw pulling his finger out or finding significant improvement elsewhere if available, and possibly a forward. But again, unless its Sanchez or that calibre i'd rather go with the players we have, giving them an opportunity in a more fluid attack than previous. Just my take :) buying isn't always the answer.

MANfromCHESTERunited

1.) 22 Jul 2017 20:06:49
A LB should be a priority. In 3 years I've seen nothing to convince Shaw is the answer. RB probably needs addressing soon. Tony is great but has no end product. I think we need another option in CM. If we lose Hererra or Pogba to injury we're short. Fellaini isn't the answer. Also think we need a wide forward, but needs to be a real top player. A Sanchez or a Bale.

2.) 22 Jul 2017 20:18:55
Herrera, Pogba, Pereira, Carrick, Blind should be sufficient enough for 2 CM positions. i'd like to see Herrera and Pereira play the DCM role. Pereira more than held his own in that role against the big teams in Spain, and that was in a poor Granada team. He surely deserves a go after such performances against better teams whilst playing in a weaker team. I don't know if YouTube has any such footage and I know you can't go off that, but it'll hopefully give you an idea, I'm personally excited to see him step up for us.

3.) 22 Jul 2017 21:05:21
Pereira deserves a chance, Carrick should have been replaced, his legs have gone. Blind should be moved on.

4.) 22 Jul 2017 22:07:37
Blind is a very good footballer. He may not be blessed with pace or super strength

But his footballing brain is exceptional

He would be my first choice at cdm.

5.) 22 Jul 2017 22:20:42
Carrick's legs are far from gone! He's as fit as a fiddle still and we play better with him in the side than without. Admittedly this needs addressing for a long term replacement, but to dismiss our best midfielder is ridiculous.

6.) 22 Jul 2017 22:26:12
Carrick will do a job more than likely. Like last season, he started strong. Midway through he suffered as he was playing weekly. If he plays 1 in 2/ 3 he'll be fine. Blinds versatility to do a job in a number of positions when we have an injury/ suspension is good. can't have a squad of world beaters. But agreed Fellaini isn't up to scratch haha.

7.) 22 Jul 2017 22:52:13
Stand, a bit harsh mate, Blind is a fantastic squad player and has rarely let us down. Carrick may be bobbing on but if used properly he still had a role to play, I think Carrick has been under appreciated since he arrived. We need 1 or 2 top quality players and we have a very strong squad.

8.) 22 Jul 2017 23:21:24
Carrick was brilliant the first ten games last season, he had a poor second half to the season. He is one of the PL most underrated players. But we can't hang onto him forever. Blinds lack of pace means he gets caught out at LB very often, and I don't see him in CM. he's best at CB for us but I'd have rojo ahead of him there.

9.) 23 Jul 2017 00:41:07
Stand,

Carrick hardly played in the first 10 games and when Jose realised we play better with him in the team he got lots of game time and we improved. If memory serves me right we didn't lose a game for about carrick's first 20 starts last season.

10.) 23 Jul 2017 02:37:01
Some good posts in this thread.
I agree 1 player with a different style to his predecessor can Jane a domino effect but i don't think any team that needs the likes of fellaini to start 20 odd games in midfield and blind at cb will challenge for the title. Yes both give their all but over the course of a long league season they will be exposed and that's what has happend over the last 4 years 5th 4th 5th 6th. i'm not doubting their professionalism or effort and i'm obviously not blaming them alone others like rooney rojo smalling even playing a converted winger right back every man and his dog left back and a no10 on both wings leads me to believe that our league finishing position for the last 4 years is primarily down to the players not being good enough. I think if jose gets his 2 more new signings that will mean he will have signed 8 with 7 remaining my guess is those 7 will play most of the games they are available for. The other 4 being toni shsw ddg and herera and i would suggest 2 of those 4 will be replaced so jose obviously feels the players he inherited were not good enough either and that's why 70% of the ' first 11' will bane been replaced within 12 months of him arriving.

11.) 23 Jul 2017 11:16:55
Gds, I meant in Carrick's first ten games. We didn't lose a game for a long time but we weren't winning a lot of them. We were a better side with him in to begin with but his influence deminished as the season wore on. If we're going to play a 4-2-3-1 I don't think we can play carrick there much longer. My opinion.

12.) 23 Jul 2017 13:07:16
Can't understand why we'd pay a whack of money for a big, slow CDM like Matic, when we have a much more intelligent player in Blind already capable of playing that role.

13.) 23 Jul 2017 13:10:15
What gives you the idea that Fellaini and Blind at CB will play 20+ games this season. can't just presume what happened last season will happen this season.

Lukaku has come in and offers more movement up top. Hopefully allowing others to excel as mentioned.

Lindelof has come in and added another CB who, touch wood, won't get injured for large parts.

Pereira has come back off a personally successful loan, playing regular in a strong league therefore having a full season under his belt.

Mikki has come back looking strong, fit and very confident. We didn't see him for half last season, and his form only really picked up the backend of the season.

Rashford has worked hard on his fitness and strength and again looks sharp and confident so far this pre season. Hopefully his finishing will be much improved through experience of playing his first full season.

Jesse has looked good running into spaces created by others so far. I've been on the fence with him for a while, but who knows, he's only young and similar to rashford that he may well improve with experiences of another full season.

I do not see Fellaini playing a big role this season, or at least I hope not. I agree that if he does, its not good enough to really push.

14.) 23 Jul 2017 13:15:07
Carrick is more than capable of giving us something this season. Just not on a week to week basis one would assume. he's a very very good footballer and if you listen to any current or previous player, they all echo the same responses. Underrated and still a very influential player. And if you watch any of the training sessions so far this pre season, he doesn't look physically out of place by any stretch.

21 Jul 2017 03:47:34
This formation is perfect against the bigger teams. Mikki in number 10 with pace either side of him on the counter attack looks so dangerous. And what a great finish by big Rom and Rashie.

MANfromCHESTERunited

18 Jul 2017 05:08:28
Tough to critically analyse a pre season game, especially only our second game, coming a week after returning to training. However, I was very impressed by A. Pereira this game in the CDM role. Very comfortable in possession, good ball retention and decision making, good defensive covering and more importantly, good positional sense. i'm not getting carried away by ay stretch, its a friendly versus a second string American team, but maybe there is some potential there going forward.

Martial looked painfully poor in possession bar a couple of moments where he looked dangerous. i'm a hopeful Martial fan, but his consistency, decision making and body language needs a massive kick up the ass if he is to be a success.

Mikki was fantastic in both games IMO, he already looks sharp and his movement has so far been fantastic, long may it continue and here is to hoping that he's about to kick on from a solid end to last season.

MANfromCHESTERunited

1.) 18 Jul 2017 07:24:31
I think Lingard has been our best player in both games. Like you say it's only a pre season friendly so it's hard to judge, but his work ethic is there and he's had a hand in goals in both games. The jury is still out on him. I'd love for him to really kick on now and make a big difference to the team.

2.) 18 Jul 2017 09:14:52
Wazza,

I have to agree I think lingard has been brilliant in both games and would love if he could kick on this season and prove a few wrong.

3.) 18 Jul 2017 14:48:51
Lingard has been good in preseason games for a few seasons now. He just can't go through with it into the season.

4.) 18 Jul 2017 15:06:47
sailor,

I thought he had a steady if not spectacular season last season, Jose certainly trusted him in many big games and the only game I can remember him letting us down was the derby at OT when him and Miki both struggled and were taken off.

5.) 18 Jul 2017 15:57:38
Agreed on all the above and I also want to add that Jones was woeful in defence. He is painfully slow and always out of position. I'm not sure why he's still at our club.
Team played well and the opposition was fired up. So it was a good workout.

6.) 18 Jul 2017 17:57:08
Resubscribed to MUTV, just for the pre-season games, and straight away I remembered why I'd cancelled it the last time, apart from my wife telling me to. Paddy Crerrand. RSL's goal was a good one, but as soon as it hit the net, he screamed, 'that's a foul'. No it wasn't, you silly aul bugger. Jones just got mugged because he wasn't concentrating.

Push Mikki back out wide? Is that the Mikki that has four assists in two games playing centrally, won German league player of the year playing number 10 in a non Bayern Munich team and is far less effective as a wide player?

Have disliked Hughes for years. Every game versus us he's moaning, antagonising and generally being a twat. There is definitely an agenda there, and managing Stoke doesn't help lol. Was at the game and as he walked off he showed nothing towards the united fans, unlike Darren Fletcher, who showed much appreciation to the united faithful! Always appreciate DF, even if he should have been booked 15 times over for repetitive fouling.

Spot on! I completely agree. In no way do I dislike MF as a person, I just believe that he isn't likely to benefit a team that's looking to move up a level in performance. I don't think he's a terrible player, and he certainly is a good premier league player, but he is not of the calibre of a top team. And I actually wouldn't object to him staying IF he was used sparingly for certain games, but that just won't happen.

Those that saw Smalling at Fulham would know too well that he's a calamity waiting to happen. Own goal and gave away a shocking penalty on his debut for them. Not long after we payed £12m for him which was like £25-30 in todays market. People who look beyond stats can see who is a good footballer and who isn't.

Its actually comical. Not one person has come forward and answered the question. What position do you want to see Fellaini in if you're so keen to keep him on. Where is it that he has an effect on the game? Maybe Chelsea are holding out for a Matic straight swap because they're keen to add Wig to their squad to give them more options. We have finished in the CL positions once in four years, let's get a grip. As mentioned, when we used to finish top 2 consistently, our squad players were Park, Fletcher etc. who had far more footballing ability that MF. And as also mentioned, someone who tries and would run through brick walls for the shirt, what a kop out! So would I for 1% of their weekly wage, let alone the full whack. I drive through bricks walls if i'm late leaving for Old Trafford, and that's me paying for a ticket, food, petrol and parking, just to watch Fellaini start as a holding midfielder and to watch us fail to break down hull, bournemouth, burnley and then wonder why that is, and why we don't get in CL positions, and why others are ahead of us.
